Worst place ever I wouldnt recommend going there for anything the people suck they wont return fish that died 2 days after buying without water sample our other fish are fine and doing well theirs just keep dying WILL NEVER GO BACK OR TELL ANYONE TO GO!!! I would discourage anyone from going to this store
This pet shop deserved so much credit for providing exquisite service, great prices, and lots of breed of dogs, cats, fish, and birds. They also serve grooming services for your dogs and they had the best veterinarian in town! I was happy that this pet shop was near my place. Highly recommended!
Well mike is awesome we bought my bearded dragon from him and he knew everything I needed to get started. He is now about 3 months old and is thriving and is doing great . I also worked with cora who is friendly and very knowledgeable and is willing to help you with anything you need. Great store to go to . If you need crickets for your reptiles make sure you stock up though this store sells out quick... .
I needed a filter for my fish tank because my current one is damaged and got to the store at 6:55PM (they close at 7PM), one of the girls that works there saw me running to get to the door, i just needed to grab that and go, she locked the door in my face and ran back inside (At 6:55PM!!!! And the manager WAS ALSO THERE) Now my fish are going to be without a filter for another 12 hours at least. Its very sad and disappointing. I am a weekly customer there and that just gave me the worst feeling. If you don’t want to work just stay home. Many people trying to get jobs right now for you to waste yours and be rude to loyal/all customers.
Only 1 good worker works in fish with glasses very knowledgeable with fish. Had me drive 40 minutes to exchange defective fish tank heaters and said I dont need receipt over the phone I show up then I need a receipt for an exchange. Ive spent alot of money in this place no more Ill go to small pet shops first.
This pet store has every thing that a pet could want, needs or dreams about! It is a bit expensive but if you can not find a certain item in another store you will definitely find it here. The staff people are very friendly and very helpful. The store is always clean, organized and stocked shelves. They also have vaccinations and wellness services which offer preventive care that focuses on the health and well being of your pet. A plus that I really like is that they allow your dog to come in (as long as they are on a lease).
Stopped in Sunday morning for plants and a frog. The frog tank was full of dead African Frogs. My 3 year old granddaughter noticed and remarked those ones are dead!for all to hear. Only 3 live ones and they looked poorly. Told cashier, she said she was sorry and have a nice day. Sad.
The staff are friendly, and try to help as much as they can, but arent very knowledgeable. They dont have a bad selection of fish, but the fish in general arent in great health, but in a decent condition for a chain pet store. Their prices for fish stuff is very cheap, and the brands they carry are pretty reliable, though not enough independent fish store / small brand items. The staff seems to be decently knowledgeable about dogs / cats, but not so much fish, rodents, reptiles (dont own any just presuming because all the other sections dont have that many, if not any experts.) Also would like to see more responsibility, especially with the fish section, as they dont normally ask if your tank is cycled, or the tank size, they just sell you the fish. This is not so much of a problem, so much as the pet smart in Clay / Liverpool NY where my grandparents live, who buy fish and put them in really bad conditions, like in the beginning they put 5 or so goldfish in a vase, no filter, chlorine in the water, and for heaven-sakes, they thought fish didnt need to be fed. Overall decent pet store, not a very knowledgeable staff.
We were helped by a sales person who was knowledgeable and friendly. She helped us with our whole shopping experience. Our furbaby Shaggy passed away in November. We were heart broken. We recently adopted our new member of our family, Tyson and went right to your store. Shaggy loved going to Petco and used to get groomed there. So, going to Petco was what we started with Tyson. He loved it and the sales person was great!
The staff a normally very friendly and willing to help. This is overall a well stocked and clean petco. They also run animal adoptions for cats from a local shelter. A visit is never complete without seeing the kittens and stopping by the clearance rack to hunt for amazing deals (like the $40 dog food bag I got for $10 a few months ago).
Terrible customer service!!! Purchased a hamster and all the overpriced accessories. He died 5 days later!! Petco tells me without a receipt they wont exchange. They can look in my Pals reward acct but they still cant do anything for me. Additionally, the cage they sold me with advertised measurements of 20x11 actually was 15x9 (Im rounding up on outside measurements). That isnt returnable either without a receipt. Poor poor job
I wouldnt even give the store a 1. There was 2 pair working and only 1 was actually working. Angela was amazing. The other lady left her at the register alone. She had a line out into the store. The other lady was standing there talking. We waited for a hour to be helped with a fish. People were leaving because the service is so terrible. Its a shame to its convenient.
There havent been any cats available for adoption for a long time, but its a great place to buy supplies such as food, toys, and furniture for your pets. They have so many options for so many animals. An great place to go for your furry, feathery, and/or scaly friends.
Have never gotten staff help here, even when Ive asked for it. Small store with limited selection - only good for things in a pinch and even then its not exactly what youre looking for. I did impulse buy a betta once, and he was pretty awesome, but I got my supplies elsewhere.
To no fault of the workers I think they need to be better trained on their reptiles, more so on snakes as i was instructed to feed my new ball python as soon as i got home.. the recommended is waiting a week before even handling or feeding so they can acclimate to their environment. Also the start up kit comes with very cheap thermometer humidity reader that could cause bodily harm to the snake, also the bedding that came is made of pine which can be deadly to snakes and the light fixture was very cheap and not what I needed at all.
Prices are high compared to other local businesses and even higher compared to online(including Petco online). Might as well shop at and support a small local business and save some money instead of shopping at this Petco to pay more and get treated poorly. Most of the time I feel as though the employees (especially Tyler) cannot be bothered to help. The only person I have had a positive experience with is a nice young woman named Melissa. Needless to say Ive had too many poor experiences in that store and my last visit finally made me decide to not go there anymore. I will be sure to go out of my way if need be just to avoid our local Petco.
I like Petco only issue I have are with their fish. They get way to many Bettas in every time I go into the store I find one or two Bettas found Because they can get 50 in at a time.And there staff you need to watch out for, Jack knows what he is talking about but please, do research first on any fish or other animals you get because most of the time the people there think they know everything but dont.
This is the third time I have visited the Oneonta Petco looking for plants for my small fish tank. Most of the plants look half dead. When I expressed my dismay, the check-out girl suggested that plants for fish tanks arent very necessary. However, your terrible selection of plants in that store goes back to months before the pandemic, and the attendants from my earlier visits were equally unhelpful
I brought my two dogs for baths/nail buffing (grinding). Everyone that I encountered was friendly, patient, and obviously loves dogs.My younger dog is very timid. The groomer took the time to soothe my dog and didnt take her to the grooming area until my pup was more relaxed and comfortable.My older dog is not a fan of having her nails trimmed, let alone buffed. The groomer was able to grind my dogs back nails but my pupper got a little snarly when the groomer tried to do the front. Understandably, the groomer did not continue to try to grind my doggos nails. Another thing the groomer did not do is charge me for the buffing (even though she was able to do the back nails). What she did do is explained very kindly that even though she wasnt able to grind my older dogs front nails, she is confident that she will eventually be able to. I thought this was very professional and thoughtful.To top the whole experience off, the groomer also gave me coupons for 20% off the grooming.I would recommend Oneonta Petco for pet grooming services.
PLACE REEKS OF URINE!!!! I am so sick of this place. I have had fish for years. EVERY time I buy a fish from here, it dies, and kills other fish in my tank. I AM DONE. This place needs to be shut down. My friend bought a gerbil the next day he died they told her oh well. Another person brought their dog there to be groomed it died.
Dirty store, tanks on floor, shop vac laying around. Looked like they were in the middle of cleaning but werent actually cleaning. had to find employees to receive help since they were too busy socializing among themselves. Didnt have the right sku out for the rats. So had to wait a while before they figured that out. Overall better off finding a local breeder. Over prized rats for sure.
I have been to this petco multiple times for fish and/or corals and everytime I go in there I am extremely disappointed in their customer service and the quality of fish. I have yet to go in there and have an employee ask if they can help with anything. Among the 10+ times I have been there I have yet to see a healthy tank. The saltwater section is a joke filled with tons of unhealthy and dead fish. Its obvious the employees have no idea what they are doing. Please dont give this Petco your business. They do not deserve it.
I shop here weekly and I quite enjoy the health of the amano shrimp they carry I’m yet to have any die offs. I’m yet to encounter a staff member who gets the information on any live stock they carry wrong Heck their terrestrial care is way up to snuff, correct feeding, a bowl of both brackish water for them to bath to kill bacteria and freshwater for drinking, so overall I quite enjoy how accurate this petco is on unusual creatures.
Got lots of stuff for your pet but its expensive and some of the people that work there probably should. Example last I was there i bought my dog a toy that charge 3 times more than I should of went back in to get it fixed when I got home look at receipt and still got charged more than I should have
Lindsey. To rate your personal experience is expected here and for that I do not judge. However, to bluntly state that the groomers at this location are not good people is a bit much. The girls who work in grooming care so much for the dogs they work on, you would think they were human children. There are regulations for certain health issues that are considered dangerous to the dogs in the salon and that is why corporate has restrictions and such restrictions are out of the groomers control. As for the schedule mix up, I have no doubt they would have made it right if you gave them a chance.
We called last week to book an appoitment for four dogs. All four nails trimmed and one being groomed. We called the day before the appoitment to confirm and they only had three dogs on file and just for nail trimming. We fixed it and when we brought them in they told us that our one dogs rabies was out of date and didnt care to tell us to bring in the new one. They still didnt have our other dog on file for an appoitment and they wouldnt do our other dog because he has a history of seizures but they never asked if he had any of that before we loaded up four dogs in a car and drove there for one dog to get their nails done. Our other dog couldve gotten her nails done but I said no because I didnt want to pay these people. They always have scheduling issues and dont tell people their policies on things and are not good people. Dont waste your time here
Ok, but really think that if youre selling animals you may want to know a little more about your animal care. Like for instance Corn snake hatchlings need to be fed 2x a WK until a year, not 1x. Or bearded dragon young need more protein diet when young, and turn more vegetarian as they grow up. Or the fact that crickets have no nutritional value for a reptile, and if being fed crickets they need to be adding vitamin powder and calcium. Just saying they just need more training.
Had a tragic experience there , went and bought a hamster was never told anything about them just handed my 5 year old granddaughter the box so after stopping at another store we are in the car and she lets out a horrifying scream the hamster had bite her and there was blood everywhere I bring the hamster back to the store and the one guy comes up and says yeah your not supposed to touch them for 3 days there scared and very aggressive well I proceed to tell the guy that no one had told us that and what had happened to my granddaughter didnt really seem to care tried talking me into something else I got my money back and left no apologies no nothing :(
I called because they sold me a female hamster(when they are only supposed to sell males) and she told me the mom will kill all the babies, when its the Fathers that do, I was very disturbed by her rudness when I tried to ask if they would take the babiesAnd informed that they wont give money, when I didnt even ask about them,I just wanted someone to take the babies

2018-09-13I bought 2 beautiful ferret from them. They have great customer service and always friendly and ready to help. They always have what I need. They have a huge variety of different things for any pet. They have a big variety of different types of animals to buy from ferrets to lizards and snakes,fish,birds,mice, hamster, and cats to adopt.

2018-08-22Petco is great! Me and my girlfriend got two ferrets from here along with the cage, food, and supplies. With their reward card we got $50 or more worth off.This is the only game in town to take care of all your pet needs. Customer service is excellent. Very knowledgeable staff. Store is always clean and stocked.No matter what pet you might have, this is the place to shop.

2021-11-07I came in to return a fish I bought one Tuesday 11/2/21, just a regular gold fish that died. I brought him in today 11/7/21 to return it and either exchange it or get a new gold fish. The cashier nick was very kind and explain that I did bring in a water sample which was great however I put the fish in there so they were no longer able to test it. I explained that I drove almost 2 hours to the store and would like at least something to be done with it, he said that he would talk to the manager while I went to the fish section and got the water tested. I walked over to the fish section and waiting almost 10 minutes for a representative to come over, I politely walked over and asked if she would test the water, she said “no I’m busy.” I tried to tell her what Nick had said and she said “I will not test that water.” I was very upset and said can you at least dispose of the fish, I do not want to have it in my car for the 2 hour drive home, she said “no that is not my job” and walked away. Nick was awesome. But the fish lady was not.
