When my wife and daughter TNR trapped a mother cat and her 4 kittens, I felt so many different emotions. I was happy the feline family would be rescued from the street and the rescue “mission” was a success for my ladies. I was also a little nervous. Putting out an SOS, one of my wifes co-workers replied and connected her with Anne at PetsAlive in Middletown. NY. Yes, a long way from Queens. But worth every single mile.I felt relief as soon as we pulled up. We were greeted by a small herd of goats and some of the PetsAlive team. Once parked Anne and her team greeted us and took the kittens in for their exams. I had a chance to look around the rescue and I was totally impressed. The facility is clean and roomy. All of the outdoor kennels were immaculate and every dog looked happy, healthy and clean. The staff I met while we waited for the test results were knowledgeable and seem to really love what they do.The kittens passed their intake assessment tests and were taken in by an organization that has restored my faith in so many ways. I wish I could have made a larger donation, but came home and added them to my holiday donation list. I urge anyone looking for a companion pet, check out PetsAlive in Middletown. If you can’t make a connection, you can make a donation!I am truly impressed.
After having pets in a loving home my whole life we had awful experience at this place. Our beloved cat passed away and our other cat lonely. We tried to adopt . We waited over an hour to be verbally assaulted and abused by psycho lady there. We not only own pets which we love but I have worked in a local Veterinary hosp. This place obviously doesnt want to help find these pets homes. It was dirty as well. My home is loving and we could have helped a poor cat instead of it living in a dirty cage there. Maybe they need to fill outva form because they dont meet MY criteria.
This is the perfect place to find the newest addition to your family! Once we met Johnny (now Stanley), we knew it was meant to be! Ryan was such a big help throughout the entire adoption process and he really cares about finding the perfect home for each animal that comes in. He took the time to make us feel comfortable and made sure we left with a little puppy starter kit. The staff at Pets Alive are so kind, knowledgeable and compassionate, I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to adopt a four legged friend!!
I didnt like condition of this place, bad smell, trash, waste outside the entrance of facility, Inside was cluttered Required an application just to get in to see if the pets held there were a good fit. They went over board looked up and contacted the Manger where I currently live without my permission. I left no number on application to contact because my current residence is not where I want my next pet. Unethical!!!! Deposit do not secure a pet you may be interested in!!!?
We adopted out beloved beagle Lewey from Pets Alive nearly 10 years ago. Great organization. They take incredible care of their clients. The modest adoption fee goes a long way in helping them save more fine animals from an early demise. Dont buy a pet. Adopt! You will be glad you did.
I got my best friend here! I wouldn’t go anywhere else! Everyone is soo nice and they really work hard to match you to the right dog! And even if they don’t remember your face they will remember the animal and are there for support after adoption! I am so thankful everyday that they connected us with Buster!!
Just adopted my dog today and couldn’t wait to rave about the sanctuary. The staff was so sweet and clearly showed a love for the animals in their care. I was on the hunt for a dog that could work well with my fathers dog and Ryan was exceptionally helpful and caring in assisting us. Adopting was a straight forward process and we left excited and with a parting gift of a harness, collar, and toys! All vaccination records were also sent immediately to my email. Thank you Pets Alive, Squirrel (now Odie) is already our best friend!
Truly cannot say enough good things about this organization! Ryan was so knowledgeable and helpful throughout the entire adoption process. My boyfriend and I adopted Biscuit (formerly Adeline), a 4-month old Beagle/Dachshund mix here. Pets Alive has excellent and quick communication with potential adopters. They work to perfectly match animals with families that are the best fit.
I had a great experience with Pets Alive. I applied for a dog and Ryan helped me the whole way and provided a great experience in adopting Frank. The trainer Robin helped Frank come out of his shell during his time there. The property was very large, including a well maintained dog trail. Definitely will recommend!
After searching for a year for a family pet, Pets Alive called for a meet and greet. Although we were looking for a different dog, we fell in love with little Ariel ( now Zorya - which means Star ).She is such a joy, brings smiles and lots of kisses, and of course offers “belly” for some rubs. The Peys Alive staff were courteous, kind, and helpful. They started us out with basic supplies. It was a great and easy experience.Thank you!!
This is the second time Ive used Pets Alive with the first being in 2014. Since then it has been the first place I recommend to anyone. Proof in the photos. Please meet Dixie (her name was originally Mary - from Hocus Pocus) found her forever home!We worked with Ryan and he was terrific across the board.Keep up your amazing work!!
My family volunteers with Pets Alive and we adopted our most recent cat through them. Pets Alive is staffed with a lovely group of animal-loving humans who spend their days caring for and doting on animals ranging from cats and dogs to horses, goats and other farm animals. If you are looking for a new, furry member to your family, Pets Alive is the place to go!
They are amazing! We adopted our hound mix from them originally and then when it was time to get her a friend we went back again and adopted our second dog. They both are such healthy, great dogs! The staff is fantastic. They’re so knowledgeable and really care about all the animals. If you’re looking to adopt an animal this is the place to go!
My son found this place on petfinder and google. After searching for a few weeks, we finaly got a call back from this place. Nobody else called us back. They gave us an appointment to meet Cory. We got there on time and watched a family right before us happily leave with a dog. Than we met ours. He was great, just what we wanted. Everything went very smooth. Ryan is very pleasant and helpfull. Very professional and courteous. We are very happy with our dog, and happy to have found this wonderfull place!
Had a great experience this summer when we adopted Buzz, a very sweet little ginger cat. The staff were all very nice and clearly care deeply for their animals. His foster mother Donna was able to tell us all about him, including his love of Cheetos! Were so happy he joined our family and I would definitely recommend Pets Alive to anyone interested in adopting a pet.
We pulled up and barely made it out of the car when a woman walked up and said can I help you I said we were intrested in adopting she was very rude and unfriendly ! this is actually the second time we came here we also came 4 years ago and wanted to adopt and had the same experience so we went with another shelter that was friendly, and adopted there. I feel bad for all the dogs they had out there that could have homes but probably went threw what we went threw yet again 4 years later! Get better customer service together, maybe friendly staff its pretty sad....
Fantastic Shelter and are great with placing dogs in the right homes for them! We initially went there to meet another dog, but after speaking with them about our household and lifestyle they helped us find a dog that was better suited for us. (this is a great thing, dog are so often returned because they are adopted by a family that is the wrong fit.)I can say after having our dog now for a few months and after getting over some adjustments he is the perfect dog for us and couldnt fit in any better! They were super helpful when we first got him, and we had some minor adjustment issues, that was expected, but they helped us understand him better, and we were able to help him and get him warmed up!Cannot recommend them enough!
We had a cat come into our yard. We usually have strays that visit from time to time. We feed and water them and they go about their way. This time however, cat would not leave. In fact, scratched my mom when she tried putting her out the yard, and ran back in. Im allergic to cats. But, the cat was clean and looked healthy and actually quite beautiful. By nightfall, we let her into the house and she made her way onto a bedroom pillow and went to sleep. ??? We asked around the neighborhood and a few people let us know an elderly woman just passed and had a cat that looked just like this cat. After a few days of posting online of found cat, we took her to the vet and she had a clean bill of health. She was chipped and from Pets Alive. Pets Alive did a thorough investigation as to what happened to the original owners and how she came to us. She was adopted out with a brother, whom none of us could find which was really sad. Pets Alive let us adopt her out and now she is a part of our family. Allergies and all! She is such an amazing cat and Pets Alive is such an amazing place. I am really appreciative that they do their work to ensure of the pets well being. Once a Pets Alive pet, always a Pets Alive pet. Thats is beautiful. The staff is amazing and if you visit the facility, you get the gist of how hard they all work to take care of these pets who have been abandoned or lost and need love and care. I really give it up to the staff for taking care of these pets and all the work they do. Puppy mills should function the same way but unfortunately they just turn these pets out for profit. Consider this place for your next adoption. Give a much needed pet a good home. I wish I can post a pic of my cat. Shes absolutely magical.
Excellent experience. Were very happy we were able to make the hike out to Middletown (were from Kingston area). The staff was very friendly and professional and we feel (if the stars align) that we definitely found the right dog for us. Waiting to hear back. Regardless of outcome, we will certainly return and in future recommend to all our friends and family. Thanks for taking such great care of these animals!!
Wouldn’t even let us see the dogs in the shelter. We wanted to adopt but they made a huge deal about us already owning a dog???? I wanted another dog for our 7 year old schnauzer we had since he was 6 weeks old. I don’t understand there process. Our fur baby is well taken care of. Hope the dogs find good home and don’t have to live in a shelter forever.
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. To be honest its very well taken care of facility The animals are very taken care of. The bad is that we went to adopt a dog or cat with open arms we meet the criteria by far, but as soon as we where there they make you feel like you dont deserve any of there animals. They tried to tell us what animal they would put us with. Now I know there are some stipulations but I would like to pick the animal that me and my family fall in love with not constantly be told this one we would match you with. Overall the premise of a no kill shelter is fantastic but when somone comes there looking to give one of your pets a home dont make them feel like they dont deserve a pet from you.
This is too Ashley Martin with regards to your review. I happened to be volunteering that day and saw that when you were asked to put your dog back into the car you lifted your poor dog up by the leash when it had prong collar on and just about choked it out not just once but twice. Their hearts went out to this poor defenseless dog as prong collars hurt the dogs. Personally I was grateful you left as I wouldnt adopt any animal out to you.
Ignore at your peril. We adopted a young, Male Rottie we were told was fixed to join our family of small children and another Rottie. After marking our entire house and showing signs of aggression we did an examination and discovered that Bear was not in fact fixed. After several weeks of back and forth with Pets Alive, trying to find a solution they would agree to, they sent a volunteer to come pick up Bear and have him fixed, then refused to return him because a dog we were pet sitting for was unfixed and we didnt have proof that our other dog was spayed. At the pickup, we also heard Bears true back story and circumstances of his surrender to Pets Alive, which they lied about and previously said they didnt know. This was after 2 trips to Middletown from NYC, hours spent socializing both dogs and the great risk Pets Alive put us and our kids at.The people who run Pets Alive and the way they run it are the reason why people like me - good dog owners with over 30 years of experience with dogs most people are afraid to interact with, refuse to deal with Rescues. They are disingenuous and immoral. While theyre OK sending out a loaded weapon with nary a whoops, they refuse to accept responsibility for their own bad actions. Not only did our kids and our family suffer from their actions, but Bear will suffer as well.
Just letting everyone know have all your Ts in place already when you go to them. They play a sick and twisted game with your emotions! They tell you first come first serve and NO HOLDS! They lie! Its whoever they favor who gets that priveledge I guess! My parents were asked if their cats had been neutered and for proof. What that has to do with anything is unknown but per their request they did as was asked a soon as possible and brought proof. Well when they got their for said dog was told down payment was made the day prior by different people and that they were on their way with their other dog and asked to leave. Then repeated their exact words the first time first come first serve well if that was the case my parents were there first! Make sure you have money, all documents for other animals up to date, and an aggressive refusal to leave without your companion! Smh shame on you all! Second time their hearts been crushed by this place!
I attempted to adopt a dog from Pets Alive in Middletown, New York. They turned me down because I had to give up a dog due to selling my house and no apt complex would allow me to bring him because he was a PitBull. I loved my dog and took very good care of him. He never missed a Vet appt and was up to date with his shots. He was prone to ear infections. I always cleaned his ears and gave him his meds.Pets Alive rather have you go to a puppy mill then adopt a dog. I see why there are so many dogs in shelters. This dog missed out on a happy and healthy loving family due to Pets Alive.I am now forced to buy a dog from a puppy mill.
Absolutely an awful organization. I happened to be ignored for 4 days, then the guy in the main office was irritated that I called him and asked if there was anyone in the Adoption office and hung up on me. They arent what they claim to be very misleading. Staff is not generous nor are the people who run the establishment helpful or willing to take the extra step for the families. Total Joke and very disappointed to know, that I have donated money to this organization and thats how I was treated! Especially when looking to adopt/foster. Denied due to a vet reference? Never owned a dog/cat ? How can that be ? Please, find another organization to look into.
The people in Westchester were great! I had no problems. I have adopted a few pets from there and sponsored 2. Romeo died after three months due to complication from his seizures - he was a lovely blind kitty and I loved him. I still have Dalilah and she is gorgeous and great. I have not had any experience from Middletown as of yet, so lets see what happens when I need their help.
These people request you leave a credit card so in case the animal is sick when given out for adoption, the other person does not get stuck with a medical bill. A LIE, when we adopted a dog, he needed to have the spleen removed and the MRI indicated a severed nerve at the spinal column. Guess how much the medical bill came out to? When I confronted Pet Alive with what I paid, the played stupid! Good luck if you adopt a pet from these clowns. Hope the animal is healthy.
Refused to take in an abandoned pregnant cat because they dont have a friday medical person. Very disappointed and feeling mislead. Ran all my gas out bringing this poor girl up here just to be denied help. If you wont help then what is your purpose? Tried to call before coming up but no answer.

2021-12-09I wish I could give Pets Alive more than 5 stars! They were so amazing when I adopted Sadie. It’s so clear the whole staff really cares about the animals and wants the best for them. They were so helpful and accommodating. They answer any and all questions and even offer free training. I was so impressed and grateful, I will go to them any time I want to adopt. They are amazing!

2022-06-07After having applied to many shelters, I cant recommend Pets Alive enough! What sets them apart are a few things:1. Instead of asking for recommendations, they spoke with my previous vet to make sure I was diligent on keeping up with my previous son, Sumos care. To me, thats a much better gauge than asking for recommendations from people who could make anything up.2. They keep you updated on what stage the application is in and what to expect next. Youre also replying to a team of people so that youre not bound to one persons schedule.3. They keep their website updated every 4 hours, so you know exactly which cats are still available and if there are any newcomers.4. They have a wide selection. Since the shelter is on a farm, there were so many kitties to choose from!5. The staff really care about the kitties. They know each kittys personality and made great recommendations on who would make good pairs. They also made us feel very welcome and didnt rush us at all when deciding on who to adopt.Theres no reason why you shouldnt adopt from Pets Alive!

2022-01-24THE GREATEST RESCUE EVER. Four months ago,I had four kittens born in my shed. I could not keep them and Pets Alive saved them. They have helped our southern rescue so many times. They saved two pit bulls that had been in the pound for four years. They were waiting for a trial, And Christina got them out. They are fabulous Caring and wonderful. If anyone is unhappy with the volunteers then they need to volunteer. THANK YOU PETS ALIVE

2022-03-04We had such a great experience with Pets Alive! I found Bella on Petfinder, put in an application, and the process was quick and easy. We went to go meet her the following weekend and came home with her. Ryan was a great help and we are so happy to have found her and Pets Alive!

2022-04-26What an amazing no kill rescue. This place is worth its weight in gold for these animals. The animals are treated kindly by staff who cares. They have dogs, cats, goats, horses and Im pretty sure Ive even seen a pig. The staff is amazing and really cares for these animals. They have the animals listed on their site or even Pathfinder. Donations are accepted in the form of money, food, supplies and even bottles they will recycle. If you cant adopt but would like to donate their website is where to go to see how you can help. Looking to volunteer? You can even register for training to help out with the animals. They have some great fundraisers where you can even purchase online and have it shipped. This is just a great charity to support for animals who clearly have a better life here than some other places.

2022-05-19Went to Pets Alive today with the intention of startingthe adoption process for a cat, provided that thateverything aligned and it seemed that I would be a good fit for the cat. One of the staff members was extremely rude, treating me like a young child and informing me several times that they are not a petting zoo. I informed her that I had full intention to purchase a cat and asked her pointedly if she was refusing my application. She informed me that she was not refusing my application but made it clear that she did not think that I would be a responsible pet owner and that she did not recommend that I get a cat. After reading many reviews I feel grateful that I did not adopt from them due to the many health issues that previous adopters have seen in new pets from Pets Alive. The staff at the Humane society were much more welcoming, professional, and informative - go to them and avoid Pets Alive.

2022-03-07Hello, I came across pets alive a few weeks ago because I wanted to adopt a cat for our family. I submitted an application and provided 3 references. My application was approved and I made an appointment to meet the cats. When I came into pets alive I was greeted by a woman who started showing me the cats and I told her that I already submitted an application and asked if I could take a cat home today, she replied yes. She then left the room and another lady walked in. This woman did not introduce herself and asked me what I needed help with. I was confused, since I had just told the lady beforehand why I was there and was surprised the information was not transferred over. This woman had glasses and blonde hair and she basically gave me a reason why each cat could not be adopted. I explained to her that Ive owned cats before but she insisted that we should not adopt any of the cats. She went on to say that none of the cats went up to me or my daughter. First of all as soon as we walked in, one of the cats came right up to us. All of the other cats were in cages, so how would they come up to us anyway? She then brought me into another room full of cats only to tell me that I could not have any of those cats either. My family and I spent the whole day preparing for our new cat only to find out that the adoption center just did NOT want to give us a cat. I spent a lot of time on the application and had to get 3 references basically for nothing. I want to know why we were treated unfairly? It seemed to me like the lady there did not want to work with us after countless emails that Ive sent.
