When I started going to the East End of Long Island regularly early last year, I was worried I wouldnt have access to Gyrotonic classes. It was with great delight that I discovered Philosofit, a studio in EH, that had expanded its location and was now offering this method. A former dancer teaching a method started by a dancer to rehabilitate his injury was too good to be true. My body and I love working with her so much that I have convinced my husband to join her training as well. We both benefit from one on ones with Alwyn. It has helped strengthen our bodies and provided added flexibility, while attending to our occasional problematic areas. Couldnt speak more fondly about this place and Alwyn!
What sets Philosofit apart is the focus on functional movement that results in mindful application in everyday life. Ari and his team are adept in a variety of training modalities. They can quickly assess and tailor each session based on your needs on that particular day. Training at Philosofit is always fun, never boring!
I have been working out at Philosofit for the past several years, building strength and core muscle and balance, following a spell of random and increasingly uncomfortable strains and injuries. Ari and his trainers have been thoughtful and helpful in all ways; I feel less fearful and am definitely stronger than I have ever been in my life. Since the spring, when Ari asked Susan Moran Sheehy to join with them to bring a Pilates studio to the Philosofit space, Ive had my mind blown--I had done Pilates before, and actually gotten injured doing it. Now, I am pain-free, I understand what I am supposed to be doing, and I am having so much fun doing it. Kudos to Ari, Susan and the rest of the team!
Philosofit saved my life. After my accident (I tore more than 60% of my hamstring), I tried various therapies. I saw an Orthopedist, a Physiatrist, and went to PT but it wasnt until someone suggested I see Ari Weller at Philosofit that everything changed. I absolutely credit Philosofit with my recovery. I have continued with Philosofit and they have improved both my strength and flexibility in ways I didnt know possible. I am forever in their debt.
Philosofit takes fitness to the level of art. I have been training with Ari and staff for two years now, and at the age of 47, I am more fit than Ive ever been. Ari focuses on strength, flexibility, cardio, and movement. All my athletic pursuits, such as hiking, surfing, yoga, and cycling have blossomed as a result of a my training at Philosofit, and most importantly, just moving through life has become a pleasure! Simple actions such as opening a car door or bending to pick something up feel like part of a grand ballet, because the movements and core training at Philosofit have given me access to a beautiful, rhythmic flow of physicality in daily life. Furthermore, the staff has proved expert in addressing any soreness or preexisting injury i have sought to heal. Life changing. Highest recommendation!
Been going here for years- Keith is the man!! For the past two decades I have had serious neck /shoulder issues which I could never fully resolve. I am so thrilled to have found Philosofit -not only were they able to help me with my neck/ shoulder problems but I actually love going there to work out. Great people & great atmosphere.... I love the Versa Climber!I worked out here throughout my entire pregnancy last year and their thoughtful training helped keep me calm and in shape!Ari and Marie have done a wonderful job building this business. I have been practicing Pilates for over 30 years, and have worked with some top notch instructors. Susan is in a class by herself. Shes the best teacher I have ever had (she is responsible for training many of the other instructors I work with in NYC). I leave a session with her feeling both mentally and physically invigorated. The space is bright and always spotless. So thankful that I found this place, I look forward to advance my practice here for many years to come.
Fortunately for me I began Gyrotonics sessions with Alwyn last spring following a ski injury. She is a brilliant instructor, tailoring the workout to my needs. One year later I am completely recovered and still hooked on this method! It is a thorough exercise regime that integrates mobility, stretch and strength.
Between the strength and stability training offered by phenomenal trainers on the ground floor and Alwyns incredible gyrotonics instruction upstairs along with Kates qicong class and Susan and Michelles pilates classes, Philosofit truly offers the best training for life. This is the most integrated mind-body training Ive encountered anywhere after years of various training programs in numerous locales. No place like it, period.
I work out with Ari and his team regularly. I also suffer some chronic low back and upper neck issues. I have been amazed at the response my body has had from the work with Alwyn and Gyrotonics. She has showed me that in the subtle movements can be tremendous relief. My feelings of soreness in my neck, for example, were relieved by an exercise to the middle of my back. Amazing and I know go every week.
Ari and Keith and Marcus and Tom and Alyssa, the entire Philosofit crew, have changed my life. After a dozen years of considerable back pain, I - Im almost afraid to say it aloud for fear the gods will strike me down - I no longer have back pain. None. I play golf now with total abandon, back pain a million miles from my mind. Playing better than I have in 20 years and scooting about NYC on foot feeling like a teenager, which was 56 years ago. No matter what kind of persistent pain is afflicting you, I would sprint to Philosofit and have Ari diagnose whats wrong. Hes a pain whisperer!! He will figure out exactly why youre suffering and come up with an eminently executable plan to make it go away.
I leave Susans tower class feeling an inch taller. She is a wonderful teacher, always mindful of how i can get the maximum results from her class. It is always varied and i am never counting the minutes until its over. For someone who is serious about their health and well being, i think you wont find a better studio than Philosofit on the East End.
Ive been seeing Ari & Co for years. They completely changed my approach to fitness/wellness. I went from a troubled back and an uninspired workout regimen, to feeling fit and healthy and inspired. They work on the body, but your mind and soul will forever be changed in the process. Thank you, Ari!

2020-07-29The entire Philosofit staff is outstanding. I was introduced to Ari and his team through the Pilates instructor Susan Moran Sheehy (who was trained by Romana, one of the Pilates elders who was trained by Joe Pilates himself). The intake and initial assessment were more comprehensive than any Ive ever had at any other gym or studio. The workouts are always challenging - but fun - and never exactly the same twice. You will never find yourself doing, for example, three sets of 15 bicep curls in a Philosofit workout - you will do exercises that work your biceps, but theyll be more challenging than simple curls. The workouts are customized to each clients individual fitness level and to address the clients physical issues. Using myself as an example, when I first began training at Philosofit, I was still recovering from an accident and had some range of motion limitations. We spent a lot of time initially working on improving my ROM as well as helping me regain my strength and base fitness level. Now that I have regained much of my strength and stamina, were working more on other aspects of fitness where Im a bit deficient, such as improving my balance. The Philosofit staff views fitness as multidimensional, beyond strength and stamina. The staff also views clients holistically and wants to know whats going on in our lives outside of the time we spend in the studio. Most importantly, they genuinely care. Ari and his staff are currently training mainly via Zoom, but the workouts are just as challenging. I know my fitness level has improved during 4 months of training virtually!

2018-11-20I have worked out at Philosofit for 5 years and have had a great experience while working with one trainer at a time. This has has allowed trainers to get to know me and my physical strengths and issues. Both were great trainers. Each very different but great trainers and they find the balance between motivating you to work out hard and being careful to keep you healthy. I have also had great sessions with 2 other trainers when primary trainer not available. I have been an outdoor lover and athlete for most of my life and do not particularly like gyms. I found a great alternative in Philosofit. I was nearing 50 and participating in many self activities like biking and running but starting to get injuries such as shoulder and Achilles pain and lower back that was limiting my ability to do so without pain. I have learned a great deal about the body and with my weekly workouts. I truly believe this has helped keep me healthy allowing me to feel strong and healthy when participating in a variety of activities including biking, skiing, water skiing, running. Plus you meet great people in a low key but serious setting. i highly recommend making a weekly session with one of the great trainers at Philosofit and talking with Ari the owner of the business and one of the trainers about your goals and health issues at start and as you proceed.

2018-10-21I have been working out with Ari Weller and his team at Philosofit for over two years and my life has changed dramatically for the better. When I started there I had severe back issues and was very overweight. We worked on a program that strengthened my core, my quads and gluts to the point that I could do a plank and actually hold it. With Ari’s support I was able find a weight loss program, lose 58 pounds, and stick with it. Philosofit is a special kind of place with exceptional trainers and an incredible support system. I thank them from the bottom of my heart.

2020-09-09I have been training with Ari for many years both in studioand NOW VIRTUALLY!! Aris knowledge and his method of training is beyond superior. It is always amazing to me how the smallest shift in motion makes all the difference. I have been an athlete my whole life and the work with Ari has taken my fitness to the next level and for that I am grateful and look forward to reaching the next levels as we train forward! 2019-07-22I’ve been a client at Philosofit Pilates for a year now and I highly recommend this studio. Not only have I become strong and more flexible; my arthritis has become more manageable. And I’ve lost weight and gained confidence.Philosofit provides an accepting, professional environment for individual and group training. The Pilates teachers are great and there are a variety of classes.Susan Moran Sheehy is the best Pilates teacher I’ve had in any setting. She has a remarkable ability to teach multiple levels in the same class which means anyone from novice to expert at any age has a great experience. Susan provides individualized feedback and this facilitates progress. And Susan creates such a positive atmosphere that we regular clients are forming friendships. 2018-10-23My experience at Philosofit has been nothing but positive. The entire staff is professional and extremely knowledgeable. Each and every one of my sessions are tailored to my needs and abilities. Ari and his staff collaborate to ensure my workouts are continually challenging me appropriately while also being mindful of recovery days. Theyve mastered the ability to blend the feel of a large scale facility with tons of equipment to a small scale facility that offers innovative techniques in an intimate and nourishing environment. Im indebted to Philosofit for offering a studied and principled approach and delivering on this approach consistently. 2018-11-23I have been training at Philosofit since it first opened, and I’ve worked with several of the trainers there. There are so many positive things that I can say about my experience at Philosofit as, (I could use the word, ‘client’, but its more than that), as a member of the Philosofit Family. Whenever I’m there, I’m not only having a serious workout for my particular needs, but at the same time, I feel like I’m working out with friends. Workouts at Philosofit are tailored to each individual person, and there are people of all ages and abilities there. Everyone is working with a Philosofit trainer, so it is never crowded nor rushed, never loud nor in any way stressful, as some Gyms can be. Every person that works for Ari Weller is friendly, and helpful, and they all have the same goal, to help each of the people they work with achieve all that they are hoping for. Its a unique experience going to Philosofit, and I have always felt Lucky, to have found my ‘home’ there.

2018-11-05After decades of exercising, and living with pain I didnt understand, I finally started training with Ari. Seven years later, I am more fit than ever, and living without pain! I now know how to move in a way thats good for me. The entire Philosofit team is knowledgeable, engaging and dedicated to their clients, and the studio is clean, inviting and well-equipped. . .

2020-07-25I reluctantly began virtual training with Ari in June 2020 after struggling to train myself during the Covid shutdown.Astonishingly after 3 sessions I found that not only was Ari really helping my foot problem but I was listening more intently and muscularly responding faster than in a normal training session.As a former classical dancer, then a trainer and massage therapist I can honestly say that virtual training has to be the MOST efficient form of working. I miss the hugs but love the result!
