Pricy muffins, I would not mind paying $3.75 for a muffin as long as they are a bit better than average. Better yet would not mind paying $6+ for an Honest Tea and over sweet sponge/muffin IF it didnt came with a rigid uninviting customer service at the cashier...seriously, if someone says hello you should at least be welcoming, say hello back not just anything else?! With such rushing tone. Not even busy to be agitated. Sucks. Maybe should have tried their bagels, maybe muffins are not their thing...IF YOU HAVE TIME, GO ELSE WHERE PEOPLE!
Expensive, the prices are a little bit for a simple coffee or a bagel. The food is bland no seasoning if any at all. The stools arent very comfortable. Only one table with two seats which usually has a homeless person sitting there at night. The display of the food is great everything LOOKS DELICIOUS. Some of the staff is friendly some are not.
Ok at best, the staff seemed kinda whatever on me being there and the cashier seemed in a rush to get me out the store. My main complaint is the price, $8 for a bagel and a snapple ??? Worst part was my bagel was harddd and not a toasted hard hah. It tasted good so Id be willing to give this place another chance but they gave a bad 1st impression
I have been coming here every Saturday and Sunday for 8 yeArs. I have accepted the grumpiness of the people behind the counter but they have never been outwardly rude to me. Today I asked the woman to please check if there was a sesame flagel again. I did this because usually they take the basket down and look closely and she had just given it a cursory look. She basically yelled at me “I said there was not and there is not.” It was not busy there were maybe 3 people in the whole store and there was no one behind me. She knows me and spoke to me that way! Imagine how they speak to other customers!!!!The bagels/flagels are not even fresh anymore and I cannot take the rudeness. There are many better bagel shops with fresh bagels within 4 blocks. I’m done with them after many years.
Great bagel shop, got the whole assembmy line with the personal touch down cold.. one of my observations was the regulars disperse as Ed among the line (peak time 8:30am) everyone was helpful and deliverr service with a smile. Good bagels. Great lox. Cracked out on a coffee cake as well. Sweet find for me in the area
Good selection of creme cheeses for your bagels, paninis prepped for toasting, smoked fish and vegan offerings. The staff works fast and it’s comical to see their almost “food nazi” style way of communicating. Small amount of bench and table seating. The coffee is this places only achilles heel.
I was in town for the week for work and ended up coming here four of the five days on my way to work. Karek made my bagel the first day and every day after, he remembered me and exactly what I ordered. Such great service and so friendly (and still very fast paced)! I’d get the everything bagel with veggie cream cheese and a scrambled egg. So delicious, and so nice to be recognized even with a mask on! I definitely highly recommend this pick a bagel.
The fat gray haired lady at checkout was extremely rude. I don’t know how this place stays in business with her. I was trying to checkout and she said my order didn’t exist (I got a plain bagel toasted with cream cheese). I paid and walked out waiting on my coworkers that we’re still inside. This employee then started talking bad about me to another customer! My coworkers were inside and heard the entire thing. DO NOT GO HERE! Bagels are overpriced and employees are VERY RUDE!!
Its a great place, and all though I have a soft spot for bagels, I can say confidently that these are some great, quality, no nonsense bagels, no bias. Great, energetic staff. Now dont think they stop at bagels, no way. I encourage people here to not only try the bagels. Only things is the place is small so even a very small crowd can make the place look busy. Otherwise, a nice place with a relaxing vibe.
Ordered a flat everything bagel with vegetable cream cheese and received it quick. Only concern is the current price inflation. Bagel came out to $4.95 and a small Tropicana orange juice was $2.95 price came out to $9+. Its a tad bit pricey. To top it off the cashier kept repeating I dont make the prices. I dont make the prices. Your giving me bad vibes too early in the morning. I only asked the prices of my order. Cashier is a bit highly sensitive to peoples vibes. Be aware of the prices and sensitivity of the cashiers.
Great bagel 🥯 and cream cheese. A wide variety of different bagel and breakfast sandwich options. They also have smoked fish, muffins, tuna salad, Chicken salad, cookies, drinks, Coffee ☕ juices ect. I sometimes get an everything bagel toasted or plan bagel toasted with veggie cream cheese, or eggs 🥚 bacon 🥓 on a toasted roll with butter. You should check them out, they have alot of stuff
Bagel was hot and yummy. Lots of options and decent pricing for the upper east side. The downside was the rudeness of the food preparation staff. No order and reasoning to line formation with a simple sign of “order here.” Many workers looked to be standing around and patting down the cream cheese when the line was forming longer and longer. Cashiers were friendly. Average experience. Food recommended staff not so much.
I really wanted to like this place more and it pains me to give it 2 stars. Ive gotten an Everything Bagel + cream cheese, and it is pretty good at $4.However, it is crazily complicated and expensive to order something as simple as a Bagel + Cream Cheese + Salmon Lox + Tomatoes + Onions + Capers (a classic, right?). Heres why:- On the menu, there is a spot that lists the smoked fish and how you can get it on a sandwich or platter. It took me a couple trips here to realize that this is the option for a bagel + lox.- These smoked fish options are quite expensive. The salmon + bagel + cream cheese is already $13.50 without anything on it.- IMO, things like capers, tomatoes, onions should be included. Instead, each of those is a $0.75-1.00 upcharge, so your lox bagel is $15-16. This is closer to the price of a sit-down lunch at this point. Compare this to something like Tompkins Square Bagels, where you get a lox bagel plus all the fixings for $11 -- and you dont look like a dummy looking at the menu for 5 minutes trying to figure out where the lox bagel is. Seriously, 75% of Pick A Bagels menu was for deli sandwiches.- A positive - the people are nice, and the place takes credit cards.- If they can offer some lox bagel preset options so I dont have to verbally tell the person making the sandwich (and hope nothing gets missed in the communication like it has before), and drop the price to ~$12, I would be happy to go back more and recommend them.
Decided to treat myself to a bagel & 2 cookies for my son. Go to register, total was almost $15! Each cookie was $5. Let’s be clear - this is a neighborhood bagel shop, not a gourmet bakery. On top of the ridiculous prices, I got home & the bagel was hard & cream cheese, warm & melting (bagel not toasted.) never again.
The breakfasts are good, bagels are yummy, staff is very nice and pleasant, a tad overpriced but what you would expect on the UES. I go there just about every morning on my way to work. I go for the coffee and a bagel but return to see this one beautiful women that works the cash register. I just enjoy starting my day off by saying Good morning to her. Puts a smile on my face, not sure about hers though
We had been walking from Museum Mile and were desperate need of coffee and a place to sit. Pick a Bagel was a lifesaver location right in front of the train ;nice seating and good prices made this place a wonderful pit stop before heading back to Queens. The only thing we were bummed out about the seating area didn’t have charging outlets and the place didn’t have public restrooms. We survived we are New Yorkers and understand not every place Can have it all
This establishment is very poorly ran. I went in for a simple bagel Tuesday morning. I overheard the manager arguing with the employees in the back made me feel very uncomfortable. She was wearing a grey shirt and most of the employees were watching in disgust that these co workers were doing that in front of everyone.
BEST bagels in NYC. Yes, pricey - but thats NYC and they have to stay in business. Re: service - this is a NEW YORK CITY bakery. If you want to be small-talked and coddled, go somewhere else. Theyll get your order right and get it into your hands as quickly as they can. The bagels are worth it. To leave one star reviews for this NYC institution in the current climate of small businesses closing down left and right is disgusting. Support your neighborhood businesses, NYC!
I have been coming to this bagel place for the last couple of years ONLY because the bagels are delicious. However, today will be the last. 09/8/15 at 10am. It was not crowded at all today and I was looked over and skipped in the line twice by your associates. I was overcharged for a ham and swiss sandwich that was found to be ham and cheddar when I got to my destination. Not to mention, this exact same thing has happened to my order several other times. Your cashier was not helpful in explaining why a ham and cheese plain is more expensive than ham egg and cheese. A three dollar difference seems quite dramatic. I was spoken to rudely and your sandwich maker and cashier had a whispered conversation about my order before handing it over to me. Unprofessional. I will not risk another insulting experience at your venue again.
Ive just had one too many bad experiences at this place. My order has been incorrect nearly every time Ive gone, which Ive lived with since its still a good enough bagel to forgive. However, I just witnessed an incident in which one of the staff members dropped a bagel on the floor, picked it back up, and then tried to serve it to a customer. Fortunately they were called out on the issue and remade the bagel (after a back and forth with the customer and onlookers). But I will never forget that they tried to serve a floor bagel to someone. Oh, and my order was wrong, again.
A very busy classic New York bagel shop! A wide selection of bagels, a very wide selection of toppings, additional soups and pastries as well. It always seems noisy and crowded, but you can usually find a place to sit alongside the window if you want to eat on site. Its not cheap: two bagels a cup of soup and a coke came to $25. But it’s an experience and you certainly feel like youre in New York!
Horrible service! waited politely cause it seemed like they were busy, a couple guys came in after me got in line behind me. All of the men behind the counter ignored me and when it was time to take the next customer skipped over me and went straight to the guys behind me. I made eye contact with several employees doing nothing towards the back and no apology or oh can I take your order, we’re you here first since you’re the first person in the line? There are plenty of other bagel places in nyc, went around the corner and got wonderful service.
Cant do without my Everything bagel, Lox and chive cream cheese. If I just get the Lox spread, they tend to lay it on too thick.Almost always got to tell the guy to go easy on it. Their Bagels always seem fresh, and have the right crispness to them. Ive had a few good salads here too, but cant stand the wait at lunch time.I come here a few times a week. Always a good experience.
Best breakfast you can have, there bagels are fresh. My favorite is there everything bagel. There paninis are fabulous and your make yourself salads are amazing with so many chooses to add. Definitely recommend this place for breakfast, lunch and for there many other snacks. There service is great, fast and accurate.
Any restaurant that is open 24 hours a day is automatically going to be on my good side. Especially one with bagels as good as this. Their coffee is OK, definitely passable, although Im a total coffee snob so Im deducting one star for coffee. With that being said, when its 3AM who can really tell the difference? They have excellent toppings for the bagels, including cream cheese and eggs. They also have some nice pastries. No matter if its morning, afternoon or the middle of the night, you can not go wrong with Pick a Bagel on 77th St. I especially like their flat everything bagels.
Pros: open 24 hours and right by the hospital.Cons: overpriced and average foodI have been many a times and while the food hits the spot, I have to say it’s extremely overpriced—even for nyc. Usually a line with a wait. Again though, it’s open 24 hours so at certain times of the day it’s your best option. If you don’t mind spending the dough, can give this place a try.
I came in and I liked the ambience however the employee taking the order came off as rude and uninterested, the same with the cashier. I want to like this place but the employees make it feel unwelcome. It felt as if they just had a give us your money and get out attitude, and too add onto that my bagel was stale.Would not recommend Pick a Bagel.
I like that they have options - tons of bagels and cream cheeses. The line was really confusing. I waited 10 minutes to pay, just because I wasnt sure which way to go.I got a BEC with avocado. It was really good, but it was $7. Not the cheapest, but I knew Id pay for that avocado. Also...I ordered a sesame bagel and they gave me whole wheat. It wasnt the end of the world, but for $7 they can at least give me what I ordered.I had to wait about 15 minutes for my food. The place was PACKED, but I guess thats a good thing. Its a little out of my way in the morning, but I would go back as a treat.
I had the unfortunate pleasure of stopping by this shop last night and quite frankly it ridiculous what I paid for a plain bagel w swiss cheese and tomato( Nothing else was on the bagel) . If your charging 12.75 for a bagel w no meat , then what the hell do you charge when it has meat. I think that they over charge assuming its the city and you can get away with it . But you cant. Enjoy the 12.75 for the crappy bagel cause you will never get my business again.
They make a really good cream cheese but recently when making a order they have an attitude , they burn most bagels to the point where it’s hard to bite , they either put to little cream cheese or it taste old . I loved this place but the workers seem to not care if your order comes out good or not. I wouldn’t recommend this place.
Pick A Bagel has one of the most extensive selections of bagels available and even a varied selection of spreads to complement your bagel. Add to that, a great selection of baked goods and pastries, sandwiches, foods, etc. Such a convenient place when youre looking for options, and as a Native New Yorker, Ill say that the bagels are great. For vegans, you must try the tofu vegetable spread!
Bagels and muffins are good. Egg sandwiches and other things are solid as well. My and many of my colleagues biggest issue is how cold and unfriendly the staff is- the cashiers, people taking your order. Have not had one good experience with an employee there. Many people from the hospital refuse to go here just because the staff is so rude.
First day I bought there a bagel with two eggs and cheese, which cost me $4.50, today I got a bagel with cream cheese, which I usually buy on a place in Wall Street for $2.50. And for my surprise cost me $5.25, which doesn’t makes sense at all... mostly because the two eggs and cheese costs less...
I walked into the store, got a bagel with butter and jelly. I know i gave the lady who claimed she was the manager a $20 bill. She gives me back $7.30. When i tell her i gave her a twenty, she insisted i gave her $10. I explain to her I just came from the ATM across the street and i showed her the transaction. She tells me she believes me but she had to check the register at the end of the day.I Iive in Pennsylvania. I got hit for $10. I know they wont care, but i am so angry now.
Everytime i will buy a bagel here, i always get a wrong order.. i would order a bagel and scallion cream cheese and they would always give me a plain creamcheese.. sometimes not toasted and worst burned bagel which i got today!!!!! terrible service!!!!! how can you give your paying customer a burned bagel???
Incredibly inconsistent on pickup. You may have an awesome sandwich or one completely wrong and terrible. Cant they read the seamless orders? They also never include napkins or straws. Im in a hurry dammit thats why I ordered ahead! Next thing I know Im trying to tear the plastic lid with my teeth so I can sip my drink.
Occasionally I service a woman over here. She always waits to call until after her children are asleep, so I never get out until 1030 or 11 pm. This is the end of my shift, so by the time I get to the 77th street subway Im always exhausted. This bagel place is the light at the end of the tunnel. A toasted sesame bagel, piled high with with cream cheese- I devour it greedily as I descend the stairs and wait for the 6 train. Thats me, leaning against the pillar at the end of the platform, spent cream cheese dribbling down my chin, a universe of crumbs starring the front of my black jacket, the slack smile of a junky who just got well.
We saw that theyre were giving free lunch for heathcare workers. When we get to the counter it was ONLY FOR LENOX HILL healthcare workers. My friends and I were so embarassed and left the store. Notice wasnt specific. We are also nurses though not from LHH we should also be respected as health care providers .
Maybe this is just me being cheap. But I asked for an everything bagel cream cheese and a slice of him. I was charged almost $10 for something that shouldve cost for maybe five dollars. I should have opened the sandwich removed the ham and slapped it on the counter aand had them charge me $4.00 instead.

2022-07-21I love their bagels (especially the french toast one, but I think they dont carry it anymore)... but man the staff is rude! That being said, if you dont mind being greeted by a loud and aggressive NEXT!!! instead of a kind Hi!, give it a try. Oh and also, the strawberry cream cheese is amazing.

2022-03-26There are suddenly tons of bagel shops on the Upper East Side. This is the only one that has acceptable prices, i.e. doesnt charge $20 plus for a lox sandwich.Thank you for remaining reasonable!

2020-04-05Ordered the Nova Scotia salmon bagel with onions and capers. Received a bagel of onion and capers, i.e not what I ordered. Onions were piled in the middle to give a good cross section cut which looked nice but even if my order were correct it would have been a bad experience having a couple bites loaded with onions and basically none for the rest.Capers were very generous, but getting what I ordered would have been great.

2019-10-04Good experience. Little busy and the shop is small. But the bagel tasted really good. I wanted a bagel with all veggies. But the guy gave me bagel with veggie cream cheese. Almost same thing. But bagel sandwich would have been better. But the veggie cream cheese was delicious as well. I had that with 7 grain bagel. Would definitely visit again.

2020-03-29If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I just ordered a BLT on an everything bagel, and it was so bad I threw it out.Let me start with the fact that is was so poorly put together, I could barely eat it. At first I tried to make it work, but the gallon of mayonnaise that they put on was making things difficult. The onion they used was barely even cut up, so the massive pieces of onion just fall out. The bagel was terribly so one half didn’t even have a top half of the sandwich.Cheese not melted, lettuce was all over the place and seemed as if it was put into a jar of mayonnaise before the put it on the sandwich. My girlfriend also had a bagel with cream cheese, and it was stale. The bagel was stale.I have been living on the upper east side for almost 4 years. This is by far the worst experience I’ve ever had in the UES.Go to Tal bagels if you want good service and good food.
