Pietros in other cities:
The food is old-school Italian and delicious. The quality ingredients are evident. The Caesar salad and the roasted peppers with anchovies are a must try for starters. We also had swordfish in a light white wine sauce and the linguini with white clam sauce. They were spectacular. The wait staff is professional, accommodating, and attentive. Billy, the host, is amazing and went out of his way to put a table together to accommodate us despite the place was booked solid. We are now calling it the VIP Table near the entrance! It’s my new favorite place for dinner.
Simply the best...EVER. Yes...EVER. This was my haunt back during my 8 years of hard time in NYC. I worked a block away and I would be there for a meal or a drink at least once a week. Its as old school as it gets. Wonderful, warm and professional staff. The food is incredible...the Caesar, the Shrimp Fra Diavlo, the Steaks....all are superb. But the real draw is their Veal or Chicken Parms...which are sent down directly from the heavens to your plate. Pietros...I really miss you guys. My best to Bruno, Sal and Johnny who have all retired.
This is a top tier Italian steakhouse located behind a nondescript facade on East 43rd Street on the back side of the Pfizer Building. The decor is old school with a basic fit and finish. Restaurant attracts a well heeled sophisticated crowd and youll occasionally spot a corporate titan. Know what to order and youll be duly impressed. The steak for two is among the best pieces of beef in NYC. Chopped salad is carefully prepared and is an exceptional starter, but if youre on a date, remind the waiter to hold the anchovies. The Chicken Parmesan is hammered thin with the cheese baked on top. Fantastic and huge. Can easily be split. Order a side of Shells A La Nat. Clean your palate with sliced Crenshaw melon but check first to make sure its sweet. Pricey but well worth it.
Just left this wonderful Italian restaurant and it was delicious authentic Italian cuisine. The staff was friendly and very professional but like Familia. Our waiter was very helpful and from Bari. It doesnt get any better than that4 out of 5 stars. I never give 5, so its my highest
Old-style New York Italian steakhouse. Great food, good portions and efficient old-style service in an informal, high energy atmosphere. Big drinks and good red wine. Valet parking. Sal at the bar will take good care of you while you wait for your table and watch the evening sports event.
Over in the UN area is Pietros which is an absolute New York gem. Professional service, well done. Terrifically strong drinks. Steak, veal, all the meat is outstanding. I also like Club A and 21 Club and I think Pietros is right there. Get the chopped steak, seriously, with a crust on it that is perfection. So tasty. One of my favorites in NYC.
A collegue of mine who is from NJ suggested this spot for an old-school italian dinner. We called for reservations, but they only had 530pm. We had an early dinner. No one was here until about 630, but it filled up. The service was attentive, but somewhat slow at times. The wine list was small but had some good selections. The Caesar salad was one of the best I have ever had, really superb. I got the veal parm, which was done very well. I tasted some of the spaghetti which was very good. Nice sauce too. Would come back!
This spot might be the most old-school place Ive been in the city. The menu stated the typical Italian fare, all simplistic without sides, which you could order with a variety of sides. Portion sizes are massive - the chicken parmigiana looking to be full large 2.5 chicken breasts. Food was decent but not amazing - definitely not on par with the bill. The clientele definitely have been visiting for decades, adding to that forgotten NYC air.
Start by sharing a tomato & onion salad with blue cheese dressing or Shells a la Nat.. Have Chicken Pietro (order white meat only, no skin, no bones) or a steak for 2. Have them slice the steak and put on a plate for sharing. Its enough for 3 or even 4. Creamed spinach. Lyonaise potatoes. Terrific.I started eating regularly at Pietros, upstairs in the small second floor dining room on 45th St., in 1965 and have never gotten over the move. Then again, I dont like change. Most of us are on Medicare but they dont take it.Only knock is that the waiters often dont listen and pay attention. But, as others have said, think red sauce Italian restaurant from the 60s. Peter, Pietro was my next door neighbor at 1175 York Avenue in 1965 and we used to bump into each other at the elevator. He was a good guy
Walked in at 7:15 during peak holiday season... Bill the maitre’d was as kind as could be.... said it would be 8:45 at the earliest. He took our name. We came back at 8:00 just to check in and he found us a table.Fantastic clams casino, superb lump crab salad, and great veal saltimbuco plus linguine carbonara. And let’s not overlook the properly prepared martinis.Take it from a native New Yorker - these are the fast-disappearing places that made this town. Go to Pietro’s for the real deal.
Waiter could barely speak English -- he couldnt pronounce olive oil in a way that was comprehensible. Ridiculous. No manager, no hostess. Just a bunch of barely English-speaking waiters milling around. Mediocre food: linguini in red clam sauce means linguini that has clams on top of it sitting in a puddle of red water. That said, it wasnt *terrible,* just disappointing and expensive.

2021-04-22The service was fantastic, I felt like our waiter was always checking on us and my water glass was never more than half empty. Fettuccine Alfredo was perfect, creamy and not to much garlic. The Ceasar salad was great too. The decor wasnt anything special and felt a little out of date but the food made up for that!

2019-02-13Excellent old school Italian spot. Surprisingly good steak. Service was okay and wines by the glass not great but thats not why youre here. The food is traditional NYC Italian and every dish was superb.

2021-12-051965 was when I first went to Pietros on the 2nd floor on 45th Street and we kept going until they closed and moved to 43rd street when I gave them a 10 year time out. We returned and kept going until the Covid Virus and hadnt been there until last night when one of our friends made a reservation. It was packed. I hate to put it this way but the crowd at 43rd Street has always been a Bridge & Tunnel crowd..........noisy and shaggy. Service has always been the same and food too. So Dale & I share Shells a la Nat as an appetizer and Chicken Pietro (white meat, boneless, skinless) as an entree. Nothing has changed in the food department. ONE CHANGE..........THAT LOVELY WOMAN IN THE COAT CHECK ROOM HAS RETIRED. My first reaction was how could she but then I remembered that Im almost 80 years of age and she must be too.

2018-04-24I liked the atmosphere here - old school Italian. I heard they had great Caesar salad. It was good, not great, a little sweet??? 3 out 4 of us enjoyed their entree. My linguine with white clam sauce was not good - bland with giant chunks of rubbery clams :( Service was good they also took the clam dish off the bill. Wine list is limited, but what we had was good.
