Love this place.. this location ?? Ehhh, not that much. Smaller menu than other PioPios, prob since it is a small location (about 26 seats). Fries were definitely reheated. Returned for fresh batch tho waiter first claimed thats the way they all are. Asked Lomo Saltado beef to be cooked medium; was WELL DONE. No Papas a la Huncaino. Chicken tasted fresh. Waiter on this Tues evening looked grumpy.
This is the best and mean the best Food and service ever. I have been coming to this restaurant before I even had kids. The food stayed delicious and the service still amazing. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure you are enjoying your time. As I mentioned, the food is cooked to perfection and delicious. Always fresh and the staff is very attentive. The price is perfect and not expensive for being in Manhattan. Love Pio Pio so much 💖 !!!!!
This was my first time trying Peruvian food. I was very impressed. I had the Matador Combo. At first, I was about to order another selection from the menu, but our waiter told us the Matodor combo is enough food for two. She was definately telling the truth. It was more than enough for two, and the price was very reasonable. All the food was AMAZING! The Sangria was okay. I think it would taste better with a mix of fruit in it. Google gave me directions to the location closest to me. Pio Pio 3 is very small inside; a bit tight. Very intimate I would say. Since they have 9 locations in all, I would prefer to try another location that is not so tight. Overall, I had no complaints. I enjoyed myself, and the food was AMAZING!
Horrible service. Order online through Uber eats. Asked to cancel some sides for extra rice and beans or salad. They cancelled the rice and beans and gave us double sides. After ten minutes of back and forth, with most of it on hold, they eventually recognized that it was their fault but refused to send over thenrice and beans. She claimed the manager wasnt on the premises (on a Friday night.) They said we had to take it up with Uber
This review is mainly for the treatment I received. I ordered through ubereats a pick-up. I arrive there a bit later and my order was given to someone else. I ask the hostess to put my order again, she calls someone (her manager presumably) and tells me to contact Uber eats despite it not being their fault. I do but they take forever. I had to order again and leave my Uber eat order pending, having lost 1 hour instead of them being proactive and helping me restart my order asap.Ill adjust my review accordingly.
This place sucks! They never answer the phone, online ordering never goes through- the staff are ridiculously rude and the food (when and if they decide to take an order) is so inconsistent. I wish this was one that closed to make place for a better and more deserving resturant.
My family and I have been ordering from here, and have been going to eat in here for years!! We are a family of 4, and the matador combo is our go to every time. When we go to eat in the actual restaurant, we always get a pitcher of the sangria, and it is really good. I usually do not go for sangria because wine makes me feel terrible the next morning, but for Pio Pio I splurge. If you are going with a party of 4-5 people, I recommend getting the matador combo and you will not be disappointed.
I have a thing for Peruvian style chicken and have tried it at places on the left coast from San Diego to Seattle and on the right coast from Bangor to Savannah. Sorry to the middle parts but I dont get there much. Anyway this place Pio Pio (and dont ask me to pronounce it) does it better than most if not all (even better than I once had in Lima (not Ohio, but Peru). Tried the Matador Combo - and Ill admit the veggies and sides were above ordinary, the chicken was what it is all about. I did not fail. Superb was all I could think at the time. That is all you need to know - now go.
Pio Pio cooks succulent tender delicious mouth watering chicken, using a Peruvian style that involves marinating. You feel like you could just keep eating and savoring it. On the menu, the name is Juanitas chicken. Order 1/4, 1/2 or a whole chicken. Sides are good, too. So is the Peruvian beer. The Manhattan locations are small, and they often have a waiting line. Takeout is a good fallback. Service is acceptable -- Pio Pio is about chicken, not atmosphere.Prices are reasonable.
We regularly order-in from Pio Pío, and it arrives SO quickly, amazes me every time. Here’s what we order: the Juanita chicken, the chaufa rice, the yucca fries, and the salchipapa. We shred the chicken and put it on the rice, and then mix the green sauce in. (Tip: order extra green sauce. It’s delicious!)
We came here on a Saturday afternoon as a party of 15. We were seated right away. We ordered 4 matadors. Each comes with a whole chicken, avocado and tomato salad, yellow rice, french fries and pan fried franks, red beans, tostones and fried ripe plantain. We added a pitcher of sangria which was so good. All of the food was great. Our entire party enjoyed it and everyone said they would definitely come back. The green sauce and garlic sauces added a nice kick as well. The staff were all very friendly and courteous. This was my first time here and I will be back.
Food is good but they get a 3for stating that you get more wine with the half pitcher when you actually get less. They said it was a glass and a half for 2 ppl. They mistaking gave us two regular glass. When they switched us to the half pitcher they changed our glasses to smaller ones to make it look like we were getting an extra half of wine. Shame shame shame.
I used to love this place when I went to their queens locations. But honestly now I find their food too salty and their service leaving much to be desired. Every time I go in there, they act as though they are so good, I should consider myself lucky to be eating their food. They do not seem grateful for my patronage at all. That has been consistent over the last few years. Back to the food -The empanadas are TERRIBLE! Spicy and dry. Ugh. My avocado salad was drowning in dressing. I wasnt given the choice of whether i wanted the dressing on or not. The chicken was still good but other places have good chicken too. Too bad they act as though theyre the only game in town.
Love this place. My family comes here regularly for the rotisserie chicken and pitchers of sangria. It is a small restaurant so its a bit difficult to get around inside but the food is always delicious and the staff is always super friendly. Recommend coming during the middle of the week as it get packed quickly on weekends.
I love Pio Pio. I usually visit the original location in Jackson Hts, which is always great! This location, while the food was good. The service definitely was not. The server was non-attentive. Besides just serving the food, and providing the check, he was non existent. He never came to ask how everything was. Never provided water. Never asked if we needed more napkins when it was utterly obvious we did.We advised that we wanted to take our leftovers home, and instead of packing up everything, he just dropped the containers and plastic bag on the table, like this was a diner. The server never even asked if we wanted dessert. I would understand, sort of, if the restaurant was super busy. But it was not. There were three couples in total, on a very rainy Thursday evening. I hate to say it, but this server was just plain lazy. The experience left a really Bad taste in my mouth, despite the food being good. I will never visit this location again!!!
I love Pio Pio chicken always. Their food is very consistently great and comforting. However, the SERVICE was not so good. The restaurant was empty and they would not let us bring the stroller in there. I know it is a small restaurant but no one was there in morning and why would you turn the customers away! You need new set of staff!
This place is the bomb. Have been dining here for years. Service always prompt and friendly. Amazing house made sangria. The chicken is to die for and in all the years visiting here, the quality and taste is always the same. Portions are very generous. Best peruvian chicken, hands down.
The food was not as tasteful and good as it was and now I think that this place is one of the worst places in Peruvian restaurant history. This is coming from a Peruvian himself as well. The food was terrible and did not enjoy. If you are looking for a place to throw up from food Pio Pío is the right place to go.
Been here many times, never wrote a review. Howd that happen?! Now I primarily get them via delivery, but tonight, I wanted to go out. Came here to celebrate a friends birthday. This place is tiny, but the service is great and the food is consistent. We were seated in 5 mins and ordered within 2 minutes.
Pio Pio is a neighborhood favorite. Chicken is delicious: perfectly roasted and seasoned. Their spicy green sauce is creamier than others — and absolutely amazing. Rice and beans are simple yet flavorful and the avocado salad is a nice light balance to the meal. Fries with hot dogs is exactly what it sounds like an absurdly addicting. Space is small, service is friendly and efficient.
I ate here while on a business trip to NYC.Ambience is OK. Its a very narrow restaurant with very few tables. If you arrive when it is busy, things might be a bit hectic.Service was good. But I went when it was slow, so it was not much of a test.As for the food:- Half chicken: great, I could have just eaten a lot of this and been happy- Sweet plantains: good, but I am not a big fan of sweet plaintains- Avocado salad: this was disappointing, but I think the other Yelp reviews gave me unrealistically high expectations- Sangria: greatI would definitely go back.
Delivery took over an hour. The woman who answered the phone said 40 minutes for the food to be delivered but it took more than an hour because it is made fresh. When I called to follow up it took them 10 minutes (I timed it) to answer and she was very passive and very unhelpful. Will never order from there again. I wanted to talk to the manager but she was giving me the runaround and said she will have the manager call me but never did. I expect the food to be free upon delivery because they took an even longer time to bring the food. In the end she canceled the delivery because I said they need to refund the money for making me wait that long for my food. The womans name is Vivian Martinez (very unhelpful and passive) and the managers name is Edwin Burton.Addendum: The manager called and rectified the matter. So that was nice and appropriate. Maybe well change our mind about not ordering there again. Well see.
My first and last visit. Very limited menu of mainly chicken entrees. I ordered (take out) the Peruvian fried rice with shrimp. The rice was very bland and white. The rice had a few pieces of small to medium sized shrimp, scallions and a dash of soy sauce. There were clumps and patches of plain white rice. I receive better fried rice from any local Chinese fast food joint. The food was highly disappointing.
The food is not as good as the one in Hells Kitchen. The menu is also limited. I ordered Arroz Chaufa with shrimp but they forget the shrimp. At the end I tried to make small talk with the guy there (he had a laptop with him and I assumed he had a manger position. That was a mistake. He was very rude and made it seem like he didnt understand my Spanish when I speak fluent Spanish). It was Sunday night February 23rd.
Everything everyone has said in their 5 star reviews is more than true! This place is unbelievable. Everything from their cheeses to their meat to their prepared food, I have never had anything that wasnt delicious. We only buy our meat from them now. What makes it even better is the guys (and Christy) behind the counter, they are all the absolute nicest and always make me smile. Every place should be such a pleasure to shop in!Beware of the samples, they will get you every time!
Understanding its pio pio so the only lunch option is chicken you would think you could ask them to chop the piece of chicken up but there was such an issue with this that I was wondering if customer service was ever discussed with these employees. Then u must get 2 of the same sauce and not 1 and 1. A bit ridiculous. 2 stars since the avocado salad was good. But the attitu8of the host and chef suck. You have many knives and cannot use it to cut a piece of chicken. No more words for this location especially when its been done at others.
We had checked the reviews first because this was a very last minute decision and we wanted something close to the hotel. Very pleasant surprise and good choice. The menu is built for two which they dont tell you we learned this from other reviews, so know that first. Chicken and avocado salad were great, dont really understand the french fries and hot dogs together, that was a little weird. Overall everything was a hit!
I’m very unhappy with the way I was treated over the phone by the cashier Sophia. I called inquiring about a online order that I placed. One of the items I ordered was missing. She insisted that I had selected to remove the item. I told her it was probably a glitch in the computer but that I had selected the proper items. Instead of apologizing , sophia practically yelled at me saying it was “your fault not ours”. She was extremely unprofessional. I’m seriously reconsidering ever ordering from this place again. Horrible customer service and waste of money !
The food was delicious, and the service was fast; but the seats were crammed (the place is tiny) and the vibe of the place was a bit unwelcoming. They dont make adjustments to the orders/menu, which I respect, but I suggest you adjust your expectations accordingly. Id go back for the food, but Id check out one of their other locations before returning here.
I was going to give the food a 3 but the service made it a 2. We looked this up near our friends apt and we love Peruvian chicken but this chicken was dry compared to other great places weve had. The plantains were dry too and the rice had no seasoning and was cold. The waiter (Marco?) didnt even introduce themself to us and the hostess when we walked in didnt introduce themselves and we had to ask if we could be seated. The waiter did not tend to us and we had to chase him down for our check. I would seek out better options if you are looking for Peruvian food.
Very well-prepared seafood with unusual combinations of fish and spices. although the room was very loud the people were all enjoying the atmosphere and it was like one big party. we were even offered a sample of the next tables chicken when we asked them what they had ordered. great neighborhood place.
The first outpost in Manhattan. The smallest location and definitely the least impressive but the same chicken and green sauce that put Peruvian chicken on the map. The only place Ive been where the white meat is as tender and juicy as dark meat. If you are in the neighborhood, this is one of the best places to eat.
I would have given five stars (the food is delicious). However, I sensed a bit of racism from the staff. The same as when black people couldnt sit at the counter in Woolworths. The stares that I received from the time I walked in the door was horrible and the body language was cold. However, I was determined to get some chicken and then start a Revolution, if I had to...
Very dissatisfied. Initially I ordered the Ceviches, really wanted some green vegetables with fish, this river fish from ? So. America came with onions, rare peppers.. potatoes..but went for. It came ice cold when I was expecting a hot meal, one small clump of sweet potato, one cold white potato, cold fish smelled, cold small piece corn on cob. Very unappealing for $15.00. Sent back. Waitress grabbed dish, angry like. Please!! Really wanted a lower carb meal than the standard fare....ordered 1/4 chicken, & avocado salad with greens. Chicken was a tiny leg, unimpressive...with salad that was so soaked in dressing, yuck. Could not tell if it was Romaine, hope not with ecoli outbreak, & CDC saying no Romaine is safe. Terrible meal. Why no vegetables, sorry only at lunch, the waitress said. What? Service with an attitude. Never going back. RIP off, if ever one. Tried to add pictures, but no access to do. Hate spending good money on sub par food. SL
My first time being at this Pio pio!You get the same food but dont get the decor. It is also less crowded and less noisy.Although they dont have the full menu... maybe because it s much smaller.I prefer this place although this restaurant is not so pretty. They should bring the price down of the menu for such an simple/undecorated restaurant.
Go here if you love being mistreated and feel unwelcome. The food is good but the service is absolutely rude and appaling. When we came in and asked for a high chair we were told we dont have any, and later I see there are high chairs at the back of the restaurant. Waited 5 mins without a menu, asked for water, and that comes after the food after another reminder (the server rather look at his phone than serve customers). The hostess was priceless. After the high chair incident she decides she needs to have a personal phone call on a speaker phone. Another client had to tell her off and thats when the head phones came out. Refill of water forget about it! Dont waste your time here!
Im a huge fan of Pio Pio. Ive been to the other locations and each one are the same but have their flare but the food is usually crazy delicious. Came here, the food was bland, bland and did I mention bland? The salad of seafood was extremely laces in vinegar that I didnt taste any of the seafood that came with it. The calamari was plain battered, no spices like the queen location. The only that saved it was the special Pio Pio green sauce. I dont know, but I feel like the other locations of Pio Pio (besides queens, Brooklyn and the one close to Harlem) are just as good. Ill go to other locations. But not here.
Tried the soup of the day (chicken soup) and the whole chicken (dark) portion. The chicken was very tender and came off the bone with minimal effort. Delicious, flavorful, and juicy. The soup was also great. Flavorful from the bone-in chicken and all the cilantro. Will return here.
Had the matador combo. For ~$36 you get a whole chicken, rice, beans, avocado salad, fries and hot dogs (Salchipapas) and Tostones. Easily enough for 3 people (Id say four). The food was very tasty, the chicken and the beans were specifically delicious. Overall Im very happy and will be back soon!
Pio Pio has amazing food at reasonable prices and friendly service. If its your first time, get the combo platter to try out different dishes: rotisserie chicken, rice and beans, plantain, etc.A must-have is the lime cebiche – the fish had a lovely bite with just the right amount of crunch and tanginess. That, the combo and the yucca fries were plenty for three people to share.
I love the chicken from pio pio. It has great spices. I usually order the whole chicken, maduros( sweet plantains), and saffron rice with beans. This can easily feed three and maybe four people a little more than. $20. Great food at affordable price. I also love the green Peruvian spice they give with the children.
Amazing rotisserie chicken with fiery green sauce. tostones are decent; their dipping sauce is garlicy with a capital g. (i liked it; my wife will not.) my dining partner had picante camarones and seemed pleased. our waitress seemed unsure but was nice enough. place was fairly deserted. on corner of block so nice cross-vent air when doors are open.
After a hard days night of drinking, what better way to get over the hangover than at Pio Pio. For a very reasonable price, you can get the Matador platter stuffed with all kinds of meat from well-cooked sausages to delicious chicken to crisp fries, fit for 3 medium-sized guys. Add in the sangria and the superfast service and you might just have one of the best value restaurants in the Upper East Side. We were seated relatively quickly and service was great - Pio Pio is going to be a restaurant of choice for me from now on.
Really obtuse menu but tasty chicken. The menu really fails to explain that the entrees are meant to be shared, and as a result the fact that they run over $30 makes it look eye-poppingly expensive at first glance. However, one and a half chickens, the beans and rice, and the salchipapas was enough for four. Incidentally, the fact that you can buy chickens by the half was not mentioned.Anyway, the chicken was moist, and the green sauce packed a delightfully surprising amount of heat. The beans and rice were beans and rice. The salchipapas were nothing special, but the starch from the fries was good to balance with the chicken.
I have been to 3 of your locations they have been great. This one was my least favorite service was lousy . Food was no cooked fully. The waiter paid more to two older ladies which they stared at me and my man liked they never seem a mixed couple. We will never recommend this location no one.
The kings of chicken, pio pio is very affordable and the new location in hells kitchen has a hip vibe to it. any place that has a side dish of fries and hot dogs together mixed almost like a salad is going to be great, and the chicken with the green sauce is almost like crack (im guessing).

2022-03-02It must be difficult for NYC restaurants these days to manage the tension between eat in service and the higher demand of take out. I enjoyed a dine in dinner here with the classic Juanitas chicken and a side of fried yucca, a useless vegetable (or fruit- no its a tuber so must be vegetable) which was great. I’ve been to all three Pio Pio locations and never been disappointed with the food. However this location, being small and narrow, involves a lot of traffic along the one aisle with food prep and delivery heroes. So its hard to say if I’d come back for dine in, as much as I enjoy the food, but I also can’t imagine eating that tasty hot fried yucca after 20 minutes on the back of a moped.

2022-04-10Ive come here at least 4 times and noted inconsistent quality of the chicken. Sometimes its moist and seems its freshly roasted other times its seem like whole foods sitting under heat lamp for 3 plus hours dried and crusty. At $11 for half a chicken I might as well get a whole one from WF for $9 as I know when their schedule 930 am and 330 pm. So disappointed.

2022-07-14You cant go wrong with Pio Pio, they have about three locations in the city and a few in Queens. The food is consistent. I ordered the shrimp with yellow rice, avocado slices, sweet plantains, baked chicken and white sangria. The food was very flavorful and well seasoned, you can taste the saffron, fresh garlic and herbs. The secret is definitely in the sauce! The chicken is served with an amazing green Peruvian sauce that is finger-licking good.

2021-07-30Great service and great food! This location is small but we got our food quick and they took care of us. I was impressed with how quick our food came out considering we were a part of a large order. The food is delicious. I would definitely come back!

2021-08-11Loved the Pio Pio location in Murray Hill but this one just doesn’t stack up. The chicken didn’t taste fresh and the plantains were overripe and mushy! They clumped together in a big mass and were hardly edible

2022-04-12They gave my order to someone else and wouldnt start another order for me until I resolved it with Uber eats. I had to reorder. Although their chicken and ceviches are amazing, and a nice Peruvian experience. Their combos are very good for groups. Not going back with this customer service.

2022-05-04Just the place to scratch a roasted-chicken itch. Its a no frills sort of restaurant chain - there are what, 9 in NYC? - and the lunch deal is unbeatable. A quarter-chicken, roasted deliciously, spiced wonderfully, comes with a side (I recommend the tostones for a tasty crunchy thing you wont do at home) with a little simple salad+avocado, very quick service, considering most of the orders at lunchtime are the special after all. We also ordered the salchipapas, thinking we might was some fries and hey, hot dogs. Oops. So much food, the server thought that was instead of one of the lunch specials. We left full to bursting for a very reasonable bill. Definitely take a look if the area is your lunch destination.

2022-07-06I just spent $65 and there was a mosquito 🦟 in my water I told the waiter and all he said was sorry he did not bring it up to the manager. I then told the hostess she apologize but said it must’ve come from outside smh 🤦🏻♀️ said she would reach out to the manager after back-and-forth she said all I can offer you is a desert.! This is disgusting I’ve been to the other Pio Pio and never received this type of service. Definitely will not return.

2022-06-05Terrible location! They tell you your food is going to be ready in 10 minutes and it took an hour!! I watched at least 20 people come in, order and get their food prior to us getting our food. The food is good but not worth the bad service!
