They literally overcharge on everything. It’s absurd. Adding on to this, a 4 pack of bounty is $16!!! At target $9, CVS $10. It’s honestly cheaper to go to wholefoods and get your produce.Additional products that are outrageously priced, paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning products. For example, this fabric softener is $21.50 in this store, it’s $15 at target. Makes zero sense.
Theyre getting too pricey, I remember coming to this supermarket when they had more sales and deals but now its way too pricey ...I paid 8.99 for a pound of strawberries yesterday...never again... I guess Ill be shopping else where..And the dairy section , everything was semi cold 😞😞🤨
This was a very pleasant shopping experience. Although Im more of a whole foods/trader joe s shopper. I must say I was please with how well stocked and clean all the aisles were. They have a vast selection of products. they need to get more organic veggies and fruits. Aside from that I will be back the prices where pretty good especially these days where so many things went up in price. They got 4 stars because I walked around for 15 minutes before anybody asked if I needed help and when the offered help, nobody knew what isle the organic sugar was in ...
A decent supermarket - I just have never experienced a store that has so many price scan errors! Like in 9 out of 10 transactions, I have to tell the cashier thats not the advertised price of an item. Its not just me, everyone has this same experience in my family. Also, their selection of organic products has declined over time.
It is okay, everything you need is here. Sometimes surprisingly good produce but for the most part this store is stuck with bad inventory control: oftentimes items are expired or two days from expiration and sold. The produce is 50/50, dairy and meat products you be sure to check the expiration. Ultimately if you need it they usually have it, the hours with the 8am open are fantastic but need to do due dillegence before I buy an onion is annoying.Edit: its improved. Same issues still persist but with significantly less frequency, upped my review a star.
Had an instance where they didnt give the correct change and instead of checking the register they said it was incorrect it wasnt until they checked was it resolved instead of apologizing they was nasty to us with no apology from them nor the cashier HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE .THE HUMILIATION. The sad part is the manager was nasty the only thing he said was she made a mistake I said thats not an apology considering how degrading they were to us
Good evening....today i entered the store and was In a very good mood, unfortunately your workers especially the young man who claimed to be the manager was laughing and not taking any customers. My husband asked in Spanish why cant he take customers instead of playing with the other employee..... He started with his rude behavior laughing at my husband trying to make him fight....I calmed my husband down and this manager started again which caused me to raise my voice and let him know that i will be contacting the owner...Hopefully this can be resolved....
I am a mother that goes shopping for my handicapped grandmother when I am nearby. Though this store is always clean it is so crowded. It is so difficult to maneuver a stroller let alone the shopping carts that belong there if they would work on that and having people that actually know where to locate items this would definitely get 5 stars 🌟
My favorite neighborhood supermarket! Huge selection and many interesting finds. They have a big organic section and many choices. The staff is very friendly and helpful, a lot of good looking staff members lol. The manager is also very friendly and even knows us. The prices are also very decent!
This grocery store is full of spoiled food which is a total rip off. They are clearly overcharging people by not honoring the sale prices they advertise. What I bought was spoiled and way overpriced for what was bad quality food. I never received the sale price they advertised. They seem prejudice against the neighborhood and treat people shopping very badly like they are all shoplifting. l really do not enjoy shopping here and will never shop here again. I once bought a bag of sugar that was stained yellow, looked like maybe a rat got a hold of it. The people stocking the shelves will not move so you can reach what you need, boxes are crowding the isle also dosent really look like they are working much anyway but they are being paid directly from the register under the tables which is illegal. They are very rude and have attitude problems with shoppers trying to maneuver through the narrow isles to do to their grocery shopping they should restock shelves when the store is closed or before it opens. The cashiers are even more rude. The only plus is one really nice guard who works there who is always nice and pleasant.
Awesome supermarket. A bit pricey but fruits are fresh and the deli is amazing! They make $5 sandwiches that includes a soda and bag of chips.Grocery shopping is not too bad but, I dont recommend it for deal hunters or family groceries. Great selection of wines and beers as well. Many cheeses and gourmet food items.
This is my regular grocery store, mostly because its closest. Store is not particularly well-organized, almost none of the staff speaks English and even then, rarely able to tell you where something is (or even what it is). Sometimes the sales are good, but prices generally are not as good as the Pathmark we lost. The manager is quite helpful, but he is constantly supervising the staff at the registers. The store is usually a mob scene. I wish for this store to get better, but fear that it will never work out the kinks.
This place will charge you incorrectly every time. Check your receipts. Then the managers will argue with you and tell you I didnt make the flyer, when there is a picture of the incorrect item and you bring it up to the register. They should honor the prices on their signs or flyer, their customer service is horrible. Im frustrated every time I leave this store. Its sad because theyre building a Whole Foods and I really dont want to shop their but the customer service at this store is pitiful.
They tend to have an issue with a register every time i come here but I like that they carry items regular supermarkets near the hood won’t carry for some reason. We like quinoa too! We eat organic!! I’m just not willing to pay the inflated prices at whole foods if i can get the same quality sometimes the same brand much cheaper at another location. This place has plenty healthier items than some other markets around And lots of vegan items as well. The only thing i will say is they are always restocking its a good thing because of the availability i don’t have to run and ask if something is in stock but sometimes i just want to do my grocery shopping with out someone accidentally clipping my stroller with their trolly.
REVISED POST: Deli is apparently never open, lines are always unnecessarily long, staff only wants to talk to each other. No reason to go here if Whole Foods is open, which it certainly is.ORIGINAL POST:Well lit, decent selection, reasonably priced. My problem with Pioneer began and ended with the deli department. The first time I tried to order some kind of cranberry chicken salad, the kid behind the counter said they were closed. It was only 9 PM, but whatever. As I am walking back I see he is waiting on another gentleman, so I figure there was a mistake and get back in line. Nope nope nope. Once its my turn, I told you we were closed. Fine, you dont want the money that keeps your store open and gives you a job, Ill complain to the manager and spend it somewhere else cause Im a cranky old man.Maybe two months later, Im trying it again like a fool. This time its apparently OK for me to ask for a half pound of cheddar cheese and some meatballs, but mid-conversation it becomes much more important to talk to a fellow employee about their sandwich. Then about their chips. Then about their bottled water. Two minutes later I wander away, wondering why it is so hard to give this place my money. And the people at the register have an unrelenting air of sadness. Please say something nice to them if you see them.
I originally went to Fine Fare on 135st in Harlem and the help was so disrespectful, rude and. unprofessional..So l return all of the groceries l brought fifty dollars worth of groceries. And took my money and went to Pioneer Supermarket. The staff was professional and there food is much better.l live in Harlem for over fifty years ..l will be telling all my neighbors to stop shopping in that store..They dont need our money.
While I cannot think of this place without thinking about how much I miss the 24 hour Pathmark, its a good store. It is chock full of a decent mix of groceries. Sometimes this is a problem because the staff are tending to stocking and pricing items as people are trying to shop in the store. It has not happened too frequently, but its clear they would benefit greatly from a larger space. Prices are OK, but they are not always the lowest price for things. The most frustrating thing about this location is that they are not in the local circular distribution though two or three Pioneers that are further away are. I didnt realize this at first until I looked at the details on the circulars I receive weekly. But I can get around this by going to the website and selecting the store circular online.
This is the 4th time that Ive purchased my favorite cupcake from this place and its been hard as a rock and tastes a month old. Judging from the sell by date of two months from now, its pretty obvious they mislable things on purpose. I guess Ill have to go to wholepaycheck for my desert needs.
I went to this supermarket to get some meat and vegetables. I opened the chicken and shrimps they old and rotten. This is the second time it happened. THESE PEOPLE ARE SELLING OLD MEAT AND VEGETABLES. If you care about your body please please please do NOT buy anything from here. It’s not worth it.
Terribly painfulI just walked in at 11:45 to get chicken after verifying on pioneers website the closing time is 12:00 midnight. I only needed 1 itel to cook my late chicken dinner, the chicken. At very moment I entered grabbed a basket a loud voice from accross the room belted from her diapram registers are CLOSSSED SIRR.I responded well the company website says their official hours are to close at midnight! Everytime I go here I leave irritated for one thing or another. 2 recent occasions when I left feeling that way only to get home and find an item I paid for wasnt put in the bag. So Despite my wishes I had to go right back. Its nit like a isolatediincident, place has no presense for solateda customer experience. When I go grace my myself with the employees presense, they are doing me a favor says this attitude. The cashiers primary focus is on the conversation at hand with another cashier. Usually about relationships, or their nails. The voice volume of cashiers conversation would be better served announcing cleanup on slee 5, or whats on the weekly specials. They wouldnt need the intercom to inform the entire store.
The supermarket is unfortunately probably the better of supermarkets in Central Harlem. Lack of customer service kills the experience. I feel like every time they have a sale and they forget to put some items into their system, then the prices advertised dont match the POS price so they have to go run and check to see for themselves holding up other customers when they could take my word for it - as if Im a liar every time I shop there. It wont be too long when Trader Joes or some large corporate grocery store chain moves into the neighborhood and put them out of business if they keep up this awful customer disservice.
WHEN EVER I VISITED,THERE WAS ALWAYS SOMETHING (I.e. SEVERAL NUTRITIONAL ITEMS ON SALE. IN FACT,IF YOU ARE AN EDUCATED CONSUMER THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOMETHING REPRESENTING AN AFFORDABLE PROTEIN,CARBOHYDRATE OR HEALTHY LIPID THAT CAN BE EASILY PURCHASED WITH CASH OR CREDIT. MANY HEALTH-PROMOTING FRUITS AND VEGETABLES FROM MULTI ETHNIC AND FARM SOURCES.BOM APPETIT!!!EDDIE G.HARLEM//U.S.A.
Salutations. Although we are all experiencing this unprecedented pandemic, I find it peculiar that the Pioneer, located at 309 Lenox Avenue, stops allowing customers to enter at 8:30 pm, when they already close early at 9:00. Does anyone in upper management find that odd? Before the pandemic, the posted closing time was midnight, and customers were not allowed to enter after 11:45 pm. I am genuinely perplexed by all of it. Please advise. Thank you.
Pioneer Supermarket prices are high verses other local neighborhood supermarkets. I brought a jug of milk from there and it was over $4.00. Compare to Associate Supermarket 2 blocks away at $3.79. I began to compare their products to other local markets and Pioneer Supermarket is the highest in groceries. I am a wife and mother on a budget, my husband works hard. When Im not at BJs, I look for local markets for my family food items. Also, they should have better customer service.
Very rude staff, untrained managers. I bought some items from here today and left my bag by mistake. No one wanted to help me no one knew how to preform a refund the girl watching the cameras didn’t do anything but laugh in my face. Dirty spanish people thats why I will be making some calls to get rid of some of the illegal immigrants in there today. Absolutely dirty hispanics who aren’t train and have no idea how to work or speak English. All they can do is say something is a theft...spell theft.
Busy and crowded - the groceries are also squeezed pretty closely together, dont knock anything over! While there are some deals, dont think youre getting a bargain because youre not at a mainstream NYC grocer. I was surprised at how expensive some things were! If youre looking for convenience this will do. If youre looking to save, hit up the Dollar Tree for nonperishables and Chinatown for produce.
Yes its crowded but even in my power wheelchair Im able to negotiate all the aisles which is a rarity in NYC. Theres some larger stores that I cant even get into. Can be pricey, depending on what you buy. But if you watch for the sale items its actually pretty good.Even though theres a bit of a language barrier sometimes, the staff always tries to help. Would be better if I learned some Spanish. But its not unexpected considering were near a predominantly Spanish speaking area of NYC.
The supermarket itself is wonderful but when the owner is rude you have to expect for the staff to follow suit. I wish there was different management and staff because the supermarket is located in a very convenient spot. When shopping here you have to decide is shopping here worth me being upset today?
After 11pm, they are the only place that is like a grocery store. Good discounts on salad, fruit, dairy and bakery products. Occasionally some sales are amazing. Be sure to keep the weekly ad flyer for the checkout as itll save a price check run by a manager and they dont trust abe Lincolns word here either.
They do not and will not update their system to honor the sales so if you are purchasing from here you have to take photos of all the sales just to show the person at the register which will almost always have an attuide or not even speak English. Dont waste your time and walk up to the whole foods.

2022-05-03I grew up going to thus supermarket for more than 10 years and I never seen this supermarket act like they are now.The staff in the store are cold blooded, indifferent, uncaring peoples that only care about your money. I seen kinder people in different supermarkets. This supermarket is just a come and go type of system. Also, the prices at pioneer are ridiculously expensive, yet their food is not the best quality. Who will want to spend 6 dollars on eggs, and 7 dollars on a gallon of milk, if you can get them from Whole Foods for much cheaper. Pretty ironic? I thought so.Please dont waste your time and money into this store. They are better supermarkets out in this neighborhood, that have a huge variation of items, with good prices, good quality, and a better customer service. *cough* *cough* Whole Foods.

2022-05-06Store was not too crowded friendly service. Clean fresh deli and fruit & Veggie sections. Shelves well stocked and there were sales on few products. Sandwiches better than going to a bodega.

2022-03-30Please put prices on your items! Half the stuff on the shelves are unmarked, so it’s an expensive surprise at the register, 1/2 of the stuff that is price marked is incorrect at the register (anything marked on sale I take a picture on my phone so I can prove they’ve rung me up wrong when I get to the cashier). And plenty of stuff that is stocked is expired. $7 box of cereal (regular size), $12 for 4 rolls of paper towels… Basically It’s a clean store you’d go to buy 1-2 items you can’t get elsewhere, not for essentials.

2022-02-21One of my favorite things about living in this city is that I get to support local family owned businesses like this instead of the massive corporations like Walmart and Target. Still my favorite local place to go for a good deli sandwich, and the basics.
