This place is a gem of pizza on Staten Island and of restaurants in general. We started with the fried calamari appetizer. It was light and crunchy with a savory and sweet marinara sauce that paired perfectly. A definite recommendation for fans of calimari. The superstars of the meal were the pizzas. We got the classic margarite, a Quattro formaggio white pie and a gustosa hot and sweet red pie. Each one was as good as the next. An excellent experience all around. Stop reading this and go here asap to see what I mean.
This place used to be good, however they have gone downhill. Everything we ate was over salted. The fried calamari tasted off, the sauce that accompanied it was watery and tasteless. We stopped eating it after a few bites. We had to wait 40 minutes for our pizza, yet there were maybe 3-4 tables occupied in the restaurant. The La Saporita pie had no fresh mozzarella as advertised, the cheese that was on the pie was greasy and chewy. The sauce was orange and extremely salty, definitely not indicative of what I expect from San Marzano tomatoes. The crust was dry and brittle. Toppings were sparse and not even distributed evenly. The servers didnt seem to care much at all. This restaurant is definitely living off its fame from the Bobby Flay Throwdown and not from the quality of its food.
Had a fantastic time with my partner. The pizza is out of this world. We had the pizziaolo and Popeye white specialty pies and they did not disappoint! The ingredients and crust are amazing. Very, very underrated pizzeria on the island if you ask me and should get more notoriety.
I had decided to try this place last night and ordered a pie to go. The Variopinta was a hit! The cashier was extremely helpful and seemed to know exactly what she was speaking about when helping me choose this pie. The place was busy but it was obvious that she cared about a costumers happiness. I truly appreciate the service and the quality of the pizza! I will definitely order from here again.
I decided to try this place out due to the beat Bobby flay show and the relationship to my favorite pizza place(brothers). I have to say I was extremely disappointed. I ordered a vodka pie that was honestly terrible. Anytime I have ordered a vodka pie it comes with fresh mozzarella but here it was just a normal pizza with a little bit of vodka sauce. The flavor just was not there. For $22, I could go elsewhere for a good pie. Needless to say I will not be ordering from here ever again.
Had another great dinner at this place ! Keep on coming back for pizza and appetizers. My faves are the throw down winners against Bobby Flay. You can’t find better pizza on Staten Island. The Toscana salad and fried calamari and zucchini are fabulous starters. Pleasant atmosphere, homey feel and attentive staff - great menu - you will not be disappointed!
The pizza is decent but do not order take out. I ordered take out over the summer, the woman told me about 40 minutes but it took them almost 2 full hours before I received my order. The waitress was nasty every time I politely asked about my order. I asked to speak with the owner and he didn’t seem to care about a regular customer. Mistakes happen but an owner or staff usually make it right by throwing in something or partially refunding the order. These people were down right nasty. I finally asked for a full refund and walked out. There are so many better options on the island. Joe and Pats, any Campania, Denino’s, Ciro’s, Goodfellas, Lee’s. Don’t waste your time with these people.
First off, their delivery boy cut us off and drove like an a-hole to secure a parking spot in front of the pizzeria. Second, we were told pies would be ready at 6:20 for pick up and we received them at 6:52, with no apology for the wait. The vodka pie was light on the vodka sauce. The regular cheese pie was very oily, over salted, and a tad bit floppy on the crust. The specialty pie (muzz, sausage, arugula) was very good and is the only reason they did not receive 1 star. With all of the raving reviews regarding the food here my only guess is that they forgot our order and had to rush to make it. Regardless, I was really disappointed. I am born and raised in Staten Island but have since moved away from NY. Coming back and eating pizza is usually a treat but this was not a treat at all. 3 pies for $72 to get cut off, flipped off, forgotten about and then given overly salted pies with a lackluster sauce just pisses me off. Go to Joe and Pats, thats a real pie.
Ordered a single large pie for pick up. They said 15 minutes, arrived 18 minutes after the call ended, they had not even made the pizza yet when I arrived but didn’t tell me until after I paid for the food. Then they had the nerve of asking me to wait outside on the cold for the pie to be done. Was thinking about getting 25 pies for an upcoming party but not anymore. Horrible customer service. I will not be giving them my business in the future.
The pizza and the Food are Very Good. My only negative is the new staff are not up to speed And the owner being a top Pizza man Has no people skills . Basically a classless individual. Loves himself. Been there many times Not once did he say hello The best story we went last year in the heat of the summer the air conditioner was broke we were a little embarrassed to get up and walk out so we sat through the heat storm the guy never even offered us a glass of water thats why I say hes classless but he does make a really good pizza ! 😄
The pizza was amazing and the staff very friendly and attentive, giving us recommendations and picking up our table quickly. The pizza brought me right back to my childhood in Italy. A++ do not know whats up with the negative reviews below. They must not know good pizza.
Have gone often. They offer a different variety of pizza. Also the dinners are very good. If you like arugula and you order a pie with it, it will be covered with it. A little too much. This place is small and gets extremely crowded. Lunch time is better. Think they take reservations.
After being a faithful customer of Brioso’s for 10 years I decided to give Giove a try. I ordered a large margarita, fried calamari & the carpaccio. The pizza was very good. The fried calamari was average; not that good. The carpaccio was TERRIBLE. This was the first and last time I go to Giove for anything other than pizza. For non-pizza dishes, spend a bit more and go to brioso.
Pizzas are authentic Italian, made in a brick oven that are awesome! Ceasar salad is lacking. I dont get it. PG takes so much care with its pizza and then they serve this below average salad. Cmon you guys you can do better then that. I would like to see a freshly chopped salad, with homemade dressing, crisp oversized croutons, freshly grated cheese with anchovies as an option.
Like Bobby Flay said: “It’s the cheese. Can’t beat the cheese.” The stracciatella is the crowning achievement of pizza. The Variopinto is the best pie I’ve ever had. It’s not a traditional pie and while I don’t think their regular pies are worth the 45 minute drive for me, the Variopinto is just perfect. When I go, I always order two. I live in Jersey and despite having good relationships with many great pizzerias out here, I can’t deny that nothing beats this pie.
Always great. Family run. Consistent and always welcoming. The pizzas are all fantastic. The margherita is unique; thin and perfectly cooked crust with the best combination of cheeses and pomodoro. Giorgio will make you smile and make you a regular. Mention Mike..... Lol
My first and only visit I asked for a 1/2 sausage pie. I didnt think I needed to say dont char black the crust and are you going to put any sauce on it. It was beyond horrible. Like they smeared a faint bit of some sauce near the edge of the crust that ended up black and the cheese was as tho it was a huge wad flatened against the entire pie. I paid and left and came back after I got into the car and saw this. I was told the reason the crust was burned was because they make thin crust pizza. Lol.What a joke and sure theyd make me another one. If this was their best - I wasnt wasting any more of my time for a repeat. I was not offered my money back. I was starving and I ate one one horrible all chewy cheese slice no sauce whatsoever under it and gave the other slices to some teens on New Dorp Lane. They laughed and said they didnt care if I already had a slice. Yes ignorance is bliss. If you want black burned crust and a sheet of thick cheese on your pizza. Yes by all means go there. Maybe they only do this for take out. I cant imagine theyd give any eatvin customer a burned pie.
I am not a big fan of specialty pizzas but I must say that the Naso pie is without a doubt the best pizza (specialty or not) i have ever eaten. It has the perfect amount of italian sausage, hot sopresatta and fresh mozz and. And the splash of tobasco sauce is definitely what takes this pie from 4 stars to 5 stars. Whoever created this pie is an absolute genius
While their food was very good, the manager/owner was extremely rude! We went with family in between a wake for my Aunt. Their A/C system broke down and there was no air circulating. This was yesterday, July 14th, 2016. They had originally said they lost power but they were still making pizza and our food was still being made. They had ceiling fans that they did not turn on, even after a few of us asking if they could be. Nobody came back to tell us one way or another. The manager/owner came out after wed all finished and was rudely clearing plates from in front of us telling us we could leave. Ive never experienced such an establishments service especially being such a delicate time in our familys life. I have nothing good to say about this place!
Another busy restaurant on New Dorp Lane. Pizza has always been rated high. Sometimes when Im not in the mood to cook Ill say, I can go for some eggplant parm. This is the place to go. We usually share a personal Pizza & Eggplant dish that comes with pasta. Very Good ! Parking is tough some times, busy martial arts school next store. Very Clean & Neat dining room. I also enjoy watching the owner make the pizza in the dining room, he also oversees whats going on in the room. Try it! Bob Cavagnaro
SAY NO to GIOVE!!! I see Im not the only one that has a problem with pizza Giove I ordered 2 pies one with fresh mozzarella and fresh basil, dont cook the basil! we never do Oh really not only it was BURNT 2 leaves thats the only basil on this margarita pie are you kidding!!! it wasnt fresh water mozzarella dont fool the public and when I called they offered to make a new one another 45 minutes I asked for a credit that was ok they apologized and wrote my name and number in their book? until my phone rang and I had to return the pizza, My mom just had invasive core biopsies and was ill I told them that. they wanted their pizza I wanted what I ordered and paid for and waited an hour. my grandparents were from Italy let me show you how to make a pizza GOOD BYE say NO to GIOVE
This place was featured on Throwdown with Bobby Flay. We ordered the calamari and zucchini sticks for appetizers. We also ordered the Naso (1st place for spiciest pie) and the Variopinta (white pie that won on Throwdown with Bobby Flay). The pies were tasty, with the spicy pie being a little bit spicy. I would just skip the appetizers. The staff was very nice and attentive as well. I would return if Im ever in Staten Island again.
The pizza is okay but the wait for take out or delivery is insane. Save yourself the aggravation because you will be waiting forever for delivery or take out especially on the weekends!!!! My advice is stay away. They just cant handle the orders on sat and Sunday nights! :(
STAY AWAY. I have severe food allergies and when I asked someone if there were any nuts in their pesto sauce I was told no, but after two bites into my pasta I immediately got an allergic reaction and when I alerted a steff member about it their only response was oh, I wasnt sure if there were actually nuts in it. Without any type of remorse or apology for the fact that I could have died. Aside from that horrible experience, the chefs seemed to be making constant rude and inappropriate remarks toward the female servers well within earshot which just further made me uncomfortable. I will never be returning again.
Anybody that doesnt give giove a 5star pizza rating has no clue about good pizza.im a native brooklynite.i have worked and eaten in pizzerias all my life (42).i have friends that own pizzerias ect. moved out to staten island 11 years ago to be dissapointed that there were no credible pizza joints. coming from da vinchis, L&B pizza park, defarras (which is way over rated) and all the other good spots that i didnt mention. then sals of soho came and i was in heaven, but that left which was a big blow to me and all the coal fired pizza lover out here. but giove, giove is in a class by itself! for me and all my friends we all agree it takes the crown away from the deninos!!
Pizzeria Giove specializes in crispy thin-crust pies, so if thats your jam, you wont be disappointed. Toppings are Italian-influenced with a modern twist, so youll get things like sausage & sopressatta pizza with a splash of Tabasco, or pancetta, straciatella & zucchini.
Not a fan of the service and attitude we used to order at least 2 -3 times a week of $40 -$50 orders and one time they put extra food without us knowing and we end up paying we asked to return the extra food and get our $ back or strore credit the manager got upset and told us we cant order from there

2022-02-17In the conversation for best pizza on Staten Island. Their specialty pies are absolutely amazing and award winning might I add. They are now making their own mozz sticks and were probably the best Ive ever had. 100% recommended eating here.

2022-07-05Ive heard a lot of hype about Pizzeria Giove. I love their story as told on their menu, even though they spelled Pizzaolo wrong, which makes me question how authentic they might be ... We went on quiet Sunday during 4th of July weekend and we were the only people in the restaurant. We ordered a caesar salad and fried calamari to start. The apps came out quickly. The caesar was good, but the calamari left much to be desired. There were only tubes which leads me to believe they buy it frozen and dont get the tentacles. No shade against frozen calamari, but you need to season it, it was definitely underseasoned and came with the tiniest shot glass of sauce, which wasnt enough for half of the platter. The size was good. Now onto the main event, first off the menu is broken down into 2 pricing categories: small and large. The small 14 pizzas (6 slices) run around $15 and the large 18 pizzas (8 slices) run around $32 and up... kind of highway robbery for 4 more inches of pizza. Also they dont allow you do do half and half pizzas, which forces you to order 2 small pies. The pizza took forever to come out. We were the only ones in the restaurant and if you are making true wood burning or coal burning oven pizza, they shouldnt take more than 2-4 minutes to cook. The margherita was not particularly great. Usually you cannot go wrong with fresh mozzarella, tomato sauce and basil, honestly it was just meh. The pizza texture is extremely thin and crispy, which I dont mind, but I prefer some more heft... Im not talking deep dish, but I want to see a nice rise on the dough and some small air pockets on thin pizza, yielding a nice chew. The specialty pizza we ordered was called the Gustoso, which had straciatella, hot sopressata and sweet sausage. It was excellent, like hard to stop eating even though we were so full. It saved the whole visit. Stracciatella is mozzarella stored in heavy cream so its like you are eating cream sauce on your pizza, which is really tasty. If you are stopping on for the first time, stick with small specialty pies and dont deviate.

2022-07-07Very very disappointed. I planned on coming here for a quick couple of slices of pizza just like a regular pizzeria. They only serve by the pie not by slice. I only get to experience this place is with a few friends. Very heartbreaking

2018-02-09Finally had the chance to try this place for lunch. My wife wanted a white pizza and I got a panini. The pizza was good and thin. The sweet sausage and broccoli rabe panini was quite different it was thinner then I expected but it was tasty. I prefer it to be thicker, I guess I love my carbs. Service was decent and waitress was friendly.
