I am not impressed with this Vet I have been there 3 times in the last 2 weeks for my sick dog. They gave her medication twice that made my dog very uncomfortable and made her feel even worse. They do not answer the phone more than 50% of the time and do not accept messages. You’re also not allowed to be in the building with your pet, covid or no covid this is not a very safe feeling when you drop your pet off not knowing if they are even going to properly check your pet thoroughly. Seems like to me they just are trying to make a quick buck. Not to mention they don’t come out to get your pet from your car 30 min after my appointment was scheduled for, it’s happened every time I’ve gone there so clearly they are backed up, but they shouldn’t be scheduling appointments on those time frames if they cannot handle it. I didn’t make an appointment at 9:15 am to have a 5 minute check on my dog and not get out of there until an hour and a half later i’m seriously fed up with this place.
I had started with Plattsburgh animal hospital about four months ago when we got our puppy. Our first few visits were fine and we were recommending Plattsburgh animal hospital to our friends for their animals. I had loved the staff I had met the first couple of times.... however, at this point I completely regret recommending them to anyone. Our puppy got into a chemical and we had gotten off the phone with poison control. I was directed to call the vet and explain that the vet is to call poison control to hear further instructions. I tried to explain that to the receptionist. I called to let her know mac was outside. I told her he was the dog that may have gotten into antifreeze. She responded with “may have?”.. As I was explaining how poison control told me to have them call them and test the puppy for the chemical before treating him, i was cut off mid sentence by the receptionist who then gave me a snotty remark and basically told me to shut up and that she’d send someone out to the car. I find this woman’s behavior to be absolutely disheartening and disrespectful. I feel disgusted having my dog in this office and he won’t be back after this visit. You would think she’d be a little more kind knowing the circumstances, but instead she seemed a little more interested in rushing me off the phone and boosting her self esteem by treating others poorly. I wish I caught her name because she truly ruined any positive outlook I had of this place.
I had scheduled an appointment for March 1 and arrived early but no one came out to my car to get my dog. I called the number posted outside for about a half hour but kept getting the answering service that told me not to leave a message because they were too busy to answer the phone. To be honest it seemed like mass chaos and Im surprised it took 16 days for them to realize my appointment was missed. To say the least I was not impressed so I took my dog to the clinic at Tractor Supply that following Sunday to get her vaccinations because I was afraid they would be late.
I took my chihuahua in on Saturday for an urgent visit. Although they had a full schedule of appointments they took my dog to the back immediately to assess her condition which was stable enough to wait until she could be fully examined. I only waited about 25 mins before we saw the Vet. This has been our veterinarian for years. The staff is always friendly, accommodating, and obviously love animals. The facility is very clean. As always I was impressed with the service and expertise of the Drs and staff. My chihuahua had an exam and blood work. We were there a total of one hour.
I called yesterday because my dog has diarrhea with blood in the stool. They made an appointment for Friday evening. I called today to speak to a vet because the dog was yelping in pain. I was told they would leave a message for the vet. Well they close in 10 minutes and still havent received a call. Time to start looking for a new vet. This is the second time this has happen at this vet. I been going here for years with my pets. They are rude on the phone and I have had enough.
My fiancé and I live in Vermont. This past Sunday our puppy started acting very sick. We called our closest emergency vet and were told we could have to wait in the parking lot for up to four hours and they didn’t even ask what our dogs symptoms were. We called Plattsburgh Animal Hospital and were told to get there ASAP and would be seen immediately upon arrival. This is our first puppy and she’s our baby and we were very distraught. They were VERY comforting and quick to take care of our baby. A HUGE thanks to the staff and Vet.
I just moved to the area less than 3 weeks ago and called because my lab was bleeding profusely from his rectum. It was close to closing time so they said I would have to pay extra, which I said that I was willing to do. They put me on hold (for over 10 minutes I may add) to ask the doctor if they would stay open to see him. The receptionist came back and said that the attending vet was not willing to come in because our dog wasn’t a patient yet (which I told them I would become because I need a vet here anyway). A sick dog is distressing enough, as any pet owner will tell you, without the stress of dealing with someone who clearly cares more about getting paid than they do about helping animals.
I went their today with my cat who was limping and in pain. The people where nice and they said that my cat had a abscess and that they took him in the back where he was shaved and the doctor said he poked it so it was draining so itll be okay. My cat does like to be rude at vets so I understood.I get my baby home to figure out that there is no cut to open the abscess so it was hurting him. I felt so bad that I called and the night nurse didnt know what to do and said i couldnt leave a message for the day time worker. I usually bring my babies to palmers. And Im never bringing them anywhere else other than palmers again!
The staff here truly care about the animals and people that come in. We have had our share of illness, and injuries and the care our dogs get is consistently phenomenal. Everyone goes above and beyond to make sure your animals are healthy and well cared for! A special thanks to Dr Sherman! He is by far one of the best Vets I have ever encountered, and is always on top of his game. We are forever grateful for all he has done for our fur babies. Highly recommend them to anyone looking for a vet office.
Unfortunately, my dog ate something and got sick in the middle of the night. No place was open and would only accept current clients same as Plattsburgh Animal Hospital but luckily we have been there before the person answering calls got in touch with the Vet on call I got a call back from them and were able to see him in 15 minutes. Definitely beats the trip to Burlington in the middle of the night
Weve been taking our dogs here for a few years now, and the staff is wonderful- but the physicians are lacking. The Vet (and I am not going to fully call out this Dr by name because I am not that person) gave my dog an unnecessary death sentence after a 10 minute exam. I was told that without question my dogs enlarged lymph nodes were lymphoma and he would have 6 weeks tops. Gave me the medical term lymphosarcoma written on a card and told me to Google it... WHO DOES THAT!!?? I was crying and devastated for a week until I figured Id see what our options were for treatment and took my dog to an Oncologist for tests. $650 later I discover that not only does my dog not have ANY KIND OF CANCER WHATSOEVER, his nodes are most likely allergy related. This is the very same vet that had treated my dogs severe allergies in the previous warmer months, but apparently couldnt make the connection. I resent the way I was treated and I really resent the unfounded pain and suffering I was put through. What if I was someone who didnt have the extra money to have testing done and made arrangements to have my dog put out of his misery based on this Drs certainty in diagnosis?? It makes me upset to think. I will no longer be taking any of my pets to this vet to be sure, but I wanted to get the message out there that you do not have to take any vets diagnosis at face value. I dont want anyone else to go through what I went through.
We always make our pets appointments with Dr Corcione ! She is so kind and you can tell she really loves her job ! She helped us through putting our beloved Spruce down which was very hard to do ! And she loves our Little Tisha ! We are very happy with her service ! The only negative comment I will make and that’s why I only gave 4 stars ! I have called to ask s question and the person who answered the phone was not very friendly! She seemed in a hurry and at one point I wasn’t sure if she was even talking to me ! Other than that excellent!!!!
This place seemed alright at first but when it came to an emergency they capitalized on the occassion by charging 18 times the value of each pill on my cats hyperthroid medicine. 18 dollars for 4 pills while 100 typically costs less than 15. Literally months worth of pills cost how much they charged me.These people are completely coldhearted unprofessionals..I wouldnt trust them with a pet goldfish at this point.
Knowledgeable , courteous and informative until bill is paid and animal is discharged. Callingto ask any question the day after a surgical procedure is an act of congress!!!! When you do get to talk to someone they are the rudest and most incompetent organization I have ever delt with!!! This is why I switched vets in the first place but being the only ones open during an emergency I found myself back here again .

2022-03-05So I’m not sure why their reviews aren’t better as this was arguably one of the best vet experiences we have ever had. Here’s why:This all started when our little mini dachshund had been bitten in the face. After taking him to a local emergency vet, we were informed his jaw was broken. This was based on physical manipulation of his mouth and subsequent X-rays. We were advised it should heal naturally and we scheduled a CT scan and consultation 3 weeks later. This was because they couldn’t fit us in until then. In speaking with our regular vet, they advised broken jaws often don’t heal right without surgery. Our only other option was BEVS which we prefer not to use. This is due to often very long wait times and curbside only service. Not having any other vet in northern Vermont offering CT scans, we started calling around.I took a chance and called to the other side of the lake which is where I found Plattsburgh Animal Hospital. I explained the situation and there were so nice and accommodating. Living almost about 1.5 hours away, I would not have made it until they were essentially closing. I know CTs scans aren’t quick due to anesthesia and premed, so it was completely understandable. They did also offer for him to stay the night and do it first thing in the morning. We elected to just drive the next day. From the get go, the staff was so incredibly friendly. They involved us in the process and made us and our pet feel so incredibly comfortable. Our little guy typically isn’t too fond of vet staff and often requires a muzzle. However, the staff here did the full exam without a muzzle and even prepped him for anesthesia the same. This was clearly due to their kind and gentle nature which was immediately picked up by him.In the end they found his nose was actually broken. After looking into it a little further we discovered the first vet actually didn’t do any X-rays at all.Long story short, we are overly thankful for their service. They did such a great job and will definitely refer them and use their service in the future.

2021-12-27We have been bringing our pets to Plattsburgh Animal hospital for at least 15 years and never had a problem until June of 2020. My husbands service dog had been sneezing and having bloody noses and was taken to Plattsburgh Animal Hospital. We were told that they would need to do a biopsy which could not be done on the same day we had to bring him back the following day. After the biopsy we were told if we didn’t hear from them in 5 days to call for the results. We called several times a day to find out the results and after 10 day we were finally told that he had a cancerous tumor in his nose. The staff was rude each time we called for the results saying only the doctor that ordered the test could read the results.Recently we brought another pet to be seen. his front paw was swollen and he was not putting any weight on it. The doctor told us that it was the bone that was swollen and recommended a biopsy that could be done the same day. We were told when we picked him up to call the following Monday if we hadn’t heard from them. We called and didn’t receive a response until after 6 pm the following day only to be told the results were inconclusive and we would need to wait for the addendum report. A week later the addendum report was also inconclusive and the results were not read by the doctor who ordered the biopsy. In fact they suggested another $450 test to be completed which we declined due to the lack of compassion. We understand there are emergencies that arise that no one has any control over that however there is no excuse for rude or uncompassionate behavior. As a result of these negative experiences we will no longer bring our pets to Plattsburgh Animal Hoslital.

2022-06-03This happened around last year, I called for an emergency appointment because my senior dog had stopped eating and drinking, he also wouldn’t play and was not himself. I was somewhat panicking because he couldn’t even lift his head. Immediately I ask for any emergency availabilities and explain the situation, the staff scoffed at me, made it out as though I was overreacting, and insisted they could not get me in for an emergency appointment. I asked them if not today, maybe tomorrow, and really expressed how sick he was. Once again, treated with disrespect and the receptionist grew more irritated with me. She said she could do two weeks at best, after I said no she just hung up.The dog died the next morning.I was extremely dissatisfied with the customer service, the vets themselves are nice and I’ve always had good experiences with them. But the customer service is down right insulting, they do not take patients seriously and have little to no sympathy. I highly recommend seeking out different veterinarians unless you want to be ridiculed.

2022-05-21About 6 months ago we had to put down one of our kittens as she had feline leukemia she was only 6 months.Last week we had to put down her brother he was almost a year. When we brought him in to be euthanized the lady said she had to take him out and put a Cath in so they only would have to stick him once. I explained that 6 months ago with my other kitten they came in the room and have her a sedative and then came back and put her to sleep, she said to me well we dont want to have to stick him twice and make it worse. We will bring him back and then sedate him. She took him away and gone for about15 min. She brings him in with a bandage on each front arm already sedated, his mouth and eyes open and only says we had to sedate him.im devastated what he had to go through when he was calm when he was in the room. And so heartbroken

2018-08-12Amazing animal hospital! We were on vacation from Massachusetts and our dog Walter had a scuffle with another dog and was bit. I called in the morning and they saw him right away as an “emergency” visit. They were awesome to deal with and took care of Walter without charging an arm and a leg. Thank you so much! I would highly recommend!

2021-10-04I have been having my pets go to this practice for years. Two of their providers specifically are outstanding. When I called to make an appointment for my dog I spoke with a woman at their front desk, we only see 2 of their providers as our dogs are more comfortable with them. When she was trying to schedule an appointment she continued to try and schedule us with another provider despite the request (which we were told several times was noted in our account) after I began to get frustrated I said I will have to call her back another time, the fact the note is still not in the account the fact that the last time were in they started treating our dog (1 of them) with another pets chart and almost muzzled a perfectly relaxed yellow lab, I needed to take a couple breathes before making an appointment. We hung up I called back and left a message (frustrated but appropriate) on the admin managers VM. We get a call within 20m from a “manager” who said that due to my “berating and name calling to our front desk staff member who is disabled we are no longer welcome in the practice” To my great surprise I asked her what she was talking about and asked that she listen to the call if it was recorded because I would do no such thing and that I certainly didn’t know this individual was disabled, not that it’s relevant at all. Despite my calm attempt to correct her she dismissed us without even listening to her Vm and or asking me 1 question about the “said incident”Unbelievable, front staff members are the gateway to any business and certainly deserve respect, but this was unacceptable and simply not true. I called High Peaks Veterinary in Raybrook Ny, they asked what happened I explain still in shock and they took us in their practice next day.Everything does happen for a reason because my dog is incredibly comfortable at his new practice they were amazingly professional they were priced appropriately and they even gave us a phone call this morning to check in to see how things have gone I could not be more grateful for the change but I am very disappointed in a practice that didn’t even take the time to actually ask a customer what had happened shame on you Plattsburgh Animal Hospital and shame on you front desk manager for not understanding exactly what took place.Jennifer Thume

2021-07-15I have been going to Plattsburgh Animal Hospital for many years. I have no complaints. They have always been helpful and good with my fur babies. We recently had to put our 16 yr old dog down and they were so kind and understanding. I definitely recommend them.

2021-06-30So my partner brought our puppy for first boosters two weeks ago. He was there 90 minutes. I brought the same dog here today, literally sitting in my car. I got here a few minutes early because that’s common courtesy. His appointment was at 5:20pm. I called once I realized they were late. The girl said they were backed up, reading the reviews and previous encounters here why do they book so many appointments just to be constantly backed up? It is now 6pm and they are “closing” at 6. So… will my dog get seen? I don’t know. What I do know is I’m changing vets!

2020-08-26I am very pleased with the veterinarian service I received for my dog Jack almost 2 weeks ago. He received a thorough exam including X-rays on a Sunday. Yes, we paid extra for our visit since it was Sunday, but everyone was kind, courteous and friendly. They seemed happy to see me and were sweet with Jack. Dr Church took the time to investigate possible causes of my pet’s discomfort, and shared the X-ray results explaining what was revealed. I definitely recommend Plattsburgh Animal Hospital! It’s an hour away, but the care is worth it!

2022-02-13Plattsburgh Animal Hospital was there for my dog Josephine when she needed it most. At 4:15 am, on a Sunday morning, I contacted the Hospital and the Veterinarian promptly returned my call within 5 minutes. Dr. Ackert assessed Josephines breathing problems, from beginning onset of congestive heart failure, determining that Josephine needed immediate attention. We met Dr. Ackert at the hospital along with Liz, veterinary technician, where they took Josephine and attended to her condition. After an x-ray, 2 shots to alleviate fluid in her chest, Dr. Ackert and Liz monitored Josephine for over an hour, making sure her breathing returned to normal and was stabilized. Dr. Ackert answered all my questions, from a distressed man crazy about his little dog, and Liz assisted in making us comfortable.Josephine is at home, happy and in good shape given her condition. For such an emergency, after hours, the only other option available to us was 2 1/2 hours away in Burlington, Vermont, from where I live. Plattsburgh Animal Hospital, Dr. Ackert and Liz provided a vital service at a critical time. I appreciate their availability, care and professionalism. The price was very reasonable for services rendered.Thank you,Kirk and Josephine
