Stopped by here on a recent trip to NYC. Had a 6:15 reservation and we were in right at that time with no hang ups or waits. The host was awesome and personable as was the wait staff, they didnt mind the repeated coat checks or exits for smoke breaks. Drinks and food are on the pricey side but worth every cent, we werent at all rushed. The food is pretty limited but the pastrami bacon Ruben-ish concoction was the best thing eaten the entire trip. The cocktails rank highly among the best Ive had and the whole experience was genuinely excellent.
Good for the experience to enter a New York speakeasy, and fun finding it.Staff was friendly and the cocktails were good!Three stars because the wait was crazy (weekday February) - and when they texted us saying out table was ready and we had to show up within 10 minutes,we still had to do a line again.I also feel they could add a little something to create more vibes inside.I strongly advise to book :)
A super memorable evening behind the phone booth. Great cocktails, knowledgeable bartenders and staff, and the hot dogs (collaborations with different NY chefs) are definitely worth trying. Tater tots absolutely slapped. Sit at the bar to watch it all unfold if you can!
Epic Speakeasy. Please Dont Tell is one of the worlds best cocktail bars. Sure the entrance is killer but what makes the joint are the drinks made by top notch mixologists. It only seats about 40 people. They start taking reservations at 3pm. Its a bit like trying to call a radio station to win something. You need to be on your A game to get in. This place is worth it, though.
We had so much fun here! Starting with how to get into this place which was FUN ... followed by some amazing drinks ... accompanied by the best gourmet hotdogs I have had in my life. Dogs wrapped with bacon on a bun with cream cheese and green onions and some other stuff. Loaded tots - YUM!
This NYC speakeasy did not disappoint! The drinks were delicious, service was attentive and professional, and the music was great. The bar itself was very much an experience and I really enjoyed it - the phone booth entrance and food experience made this place perfect to finish off a birthday celebration. Went on a Friday night, WITH a reservation - which I highly recommend otherwise you’re probably not going to get in on the weekends.
Thank goodness they take reservations now as I’ve been hearing about this place for YEARS!The magic of dialling a telephone to get into the speakeasy is hard to describe in words - you should experience it yourself! Our group really drank the menu had tried a whole selection of the drinks they had to offer. The Reserve cocktails were definitely a treat and I personally enjoyed the Lyaness. Other great ones were Paddington and the La Perla Old Fashioned. Our party enjoyed the greener cocktails like the Peasco Sour and the Valle Verde. The hot dogs are fabulous and you definitely want to get one. The Chang dog has momofuku kimchi on it with a crispy hotdog skin, which is just a luxury in itself next to some great cocktails.Service was also super friendly which made the entire night that much better. The atmosphere was also really cozy so it was just overall a great evening, with great drinks, food, and company.
This speak easy has fantastic drinks and don’t forget to order the great tater tots from Crif dogs. You need to make reservations in advance. The entrance is through a hot dog shop, then u walk through a phone booth which is cool. The whole experience was fun, but expensive.
If you can get a resy on Resy, highly recommend. Set a notification in the app and grab what you can find, regardless of time. But anyway onto the drinks:Their reserve cocktails are ridiculously amazing. Pricey but absolutely worth it. And those Criff Dogs!! You MUST get the nacho tots even if youre not hungry. If I had to choose, Death & Co > PDT, but its super close. Hit both if you can
I will never return to this bar as I do not feel safe and disappointed at the staff did nothing while another man openly taunted me and blocked my exit from the bathroom. This place was recommended to me by many bartenders and I flew in from LA to try. I was okay with the wait time or waited two days for a possible seat, 3 hour plus wait time. I am also fine even as the staff shouted through a speaker to stand on the side and wait for the entrance. Yet when I am openly blocked as another customer trash talked and blocked my exit from the bathroom and there was no apparent interception, plus a mess of crowd gathered in random. I had to defend myself and find my own way out as the man continued to shout slurs and blocked my path. It was a incredibly unnerving experience especially from the negligent staff to allow such behaviors. I will not be returning nor recommending a place I do not feel safe.
Great cocktails and vibe inside the speak easy. However, the experience getting in through Crif Dogs was terrible. The staff there herded a dozen or so people into a line in the extremely small space there by using a megaphone to communicate. Disrespectful and unsettling to everyone there, especially those with hearing issues. Will not come back if there is a line if this is a recurring thing.
Cocktails are good, but not exceptional and rather pricey. The location atmosphere are alright. Nothing exceptional either. The only exceptional thing in this place is the entrance, though a phone booth, and the extremely long waiting time from the moment you ask for a table and the moment you get a seat. They said Between 2 and 3 hours waiting time. It took 3 hours for us to get a table. We were only 2 people. Could have been placed in the bar, but kept us waiting instead. In my opinion, this place is overrated, and not worth the wait.
Pleas Dont Tell is what every other secret entrance speakeasy is trying to be. It is fantastic, and going through a fully functioning hot dog place, and then through a phone both makes for a really cool experience. At times the wait can be long, but they will take a reservation over the phone and let you know when your spot is available, which is great. Most importantly, their cocktails are AMAZING! Theyre really unique and delicious, and you can tell the bartenders know what theyre doing. I also love the attention to detail (e.g., the ultra clear ice in different shapes and sizes, the absinthe water dropper). I even had the privelege of trying a rare Blue Gin, which was great. The decor is also perfect, and felt classy yet kitschy. If you are in NYC and looking for a really unique place to try out, or are just into cocktails, do yourself a favour and check PDT out.
Love this place but it is CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS. Resy allowed me to make a reservation last week only to text me the day before to let me know it was cancelled. when I walked past the location,. it was TOTALLY under construction. By ten it was too late to make a reservation at another speakeasy. Disappointed.
Unfortunately the internet has ruined places like this, but its still a fun novelty to go to a speakeasy through a secret entrance. The hot dogs and tater tots were good, not amazing. Drinks over priced for what you get. I ordered a bacon old fashioned which unfortunately want too my taste. My own fault for thinking bacon would make a good drink better 😂
A nice speakeasy. The entrance is cool, you go through a phone booth. However, the wait is absurd. Basically, they ensure that each patron has a seat, and the bar is small. Therefore, at any given time, there are only like 12 people in the bar. On a Monday night, we had to wait 45 minutes. Most bars were closed and/or empty at this point, but this one had a long wait. Also, since they have this seat per person policy, the bar is pretty empty and dead. Dont go here if you want to meet people. Also, they have a one-drink minimum policy, and the cheapest drink is a beer which is $8, which is very high. My friend got a chili dog and he said it was very good. The staff was nice. Overall, you should go here if you like speakeasies.
What else can one say that hasnt been said already? If youre in NY, you MUST check them out. Unique and original cocktails in a very cozy, moody atmosphere. Keep in mind that reservations are for the day of only. Phone line opens at 3pm on a daily basis. Expect a busy line when calling, but you must keep trying until you get thru!
This place is pretty spectacular. The entire concept of entering secretly just makes the whole experience more awesome. Inside, its lovely and mostly quiet. There are sources of light but its mostly dark. The decoration and the general interior is very pleasant. The cocktails are amazing. The bartenders were very skilled - the drinks tasted really good and were very smooth.
PDT is hands down an amazing experience. Yes it’s a bit small but I wouldn’t say it’s tiny. The atmosphere and attitude were perfect and we had seats right at the bar to watch the action. Our bartender, AK, was friendly and was happy to share lore about various ingredients and components. My friend asked her to make any drink that came to mind for her as it was the last of our trip and with one basic question, she produced the best cocktail he’d ever had.I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Word of warning though: you might wait for a couple hours while others wait 10 minutes. They have a method so just go with it.Staff is great, drinks are phenomenal and the experience was worth the wait.Drinks we had, which were all amazing are pictured. The Cloister, The Katz Meow and the Subrosa.
I’ve been twice and have yet to enjoy any drink I’ve gotten there (tried 5 different cocktails). They tend to be not balanced and overly boozy.Attempting to get in is a major pain. Reservations open on the phone but you have to call 10x before you can potentially reach a person. If you try to put your name down at the bar, they will grossly underestimate the time (will say one hour when it’ll be actually three hours). Staff are not friendly. There are a lot better bars and speakeasies in the area without the price tag and the hassle.
Walk into a hot dog joint (Crif Dogs), step into a phone booth, dual a special number, and get into one of NYC’s top speakeasies.Atmosphere gets an A+...but this being a “speakeasy,” you’d expect that. Drinks A++... great cocktails (and actually affordable considering NYC prices)—ask the bartender to make something special if you want to take a risk—I didn’t drink the same drink twice because I just wanted to keep testing the bartender...he didn’t fail. Presentation was nice too. Now, food, I was worried, because we actually went for dinner...then we saw the menu...hot dogs, burgers, fries. “Damnit” I thought, but let me tell you...the hot dogs were insanely good (especially the one with kimchi on it!). Easily the BEST tater tots I’ve ever had. Just my opinion, but stay away from the burger (not great). But was pleasantly surprised by everything else. One last thing...make a reservation. You have to call at 3pm the day you want to go. Problem is that everyone is calling at the same time. It took us 45 minutes to get through to them, since they only have one phone line, and we got the last reservation. Well worth making it though, because the wait was THREE hours without a reservation.
This place is worth visiting once. I love the fun entrance into the restaurant through crif dogs, the hot dogs themselves that they serve here are amazing, the drinks are delicious, the food prices are pretty good, and overall the Ambiance while a bit cramped was really awesome. I dont if I would return considering how busy it is, but the novelty of visiting at least once is totally worth it.
We gained quick access with another couple we had never met. They had reservations for four, but their friends could not make it; not wanting to forfeit their reservation, they scanned the group of people waiting and asked us to join them. After they explained the situation we were like what the hell, okay. We all shared drinks and tried as many as we could manage:) The atmosphere is rich and transfers you to a different time and place. A place where a bear wears a hat… if access was easier it would not be the same. It was a great evening! I paid the bill, and we hugged our new Jersey Shore friends goodbye on the street.
I went to NY on a business trip and looked up BAR WITH PERSONALITY. This spot came up, top of the list. We almost couldnt find it because you literally have to go in through a hot dog joint. But as soon as you go in its a whole different world. We had 2 bartenders take care of us, Ben and Felipe. Its funny because their drinks were incredible, but the story and the experience behind every cocktail was the catch. My colleague and I were going to drop in for a drink and we basically closed the spot. We had a great night and would definitely encourage people to not miss out on this experience!!!
Pretty cool speakeasy but it can be a major pain trying to get into this place. You can call the day of to get a reservation, which I highly recommend because you can end up waiting all night to get in. The great thing is that the place is nearby a bunch of other bars, so you have plenty of options to kill time before they give you a call. The entrance is in a hot dog/pizza place that is pretty family friendly. Probably not the best place to be located because the place got really packed when people started lining up to put their name on the list, while a bunch of kids were celebrating a birthday party. The speakeasy process is pretty easy, as you just pick up the phone, and the lady who arranges seating comes out and helps you out.The cocktails here are definitely worth trying if youre able to get in. Ordered the old fashioned and it was fantastic. Strong and tasty, without being overly sweet. Prices can be pretty steep at $16 per drink, but rest assured, these bartenders know what theyre doing.Overall, drinks were fantastic, but I highly recommend that you set up a reservation to avoid the nightmare of getting in.
Loved our experience here. The atmosphere and drinks were absolutely amazing . The bartenders were attentive and even made us drinks based on our personal preferences. A reservation is highly recommended. It is a small space and without a reservation the wait can be around 2-3 hours on the weekends. To get a reservation you call their number starting at 3pm the day of, but it requires persistence. There were 3 of us calling 40+ times each until we were able to get through. But I would do it all over again next time we are in town. Worth the effort!
Cool concept for a speakeasy where you enter through a phone booth at the back of a hot dog store.Longish waiting times (although they take your number and you can go to another bar) and the drinks are very expensive. It’s a “New York” thing to do, but probably not somewhere I’d rush back.
LOOONG wait without reservations. Got there 10mins after opening and waited nearly an hour and a half. Concept of secret speak easy is very cool, entrance is awesome. Cocktails are pricey($17ea)but delicious. Food service is from the front business, limited options as expected but very fast service and food was good.
I had a good time here its a small intimate bar so its a great place for a first date or anything where you plan on talking. The staff is really attentive and made great drink recommendations. They have a really good cocktail menu be ready for some sticker shock because cocktails are $16 EACH. The food menu is somewhat lacking. Because this place is attached to Crif Dogs(a hot dog stand) expect dressed up hot dogs and tater tots.
Great low key place to have a few drinks. I say low key because its tiny inside and they do NOT let it get packed. They only allow enough people in the bar as there are seats, so reservations are highly recommended. We showed up 15 minutes before they opened, waited in line, and by the time it was our turn, there was a 45 minute wait. I recommend you eat elsewhere as the food they offer is from the hotdog place next door so they have limited options. The drinks are delicious! The bartenders are constantly inventing new drinks and they rotate the drinks on the menu seasonally. They really know what theyre doing.
Been here three times, really for their craft cocktails. But don’t get me wrong, I love their hotdogs!Pro:- speakeasy are fun! Love seeing the interior and good experience- variety of hot dogs. I got the one w cilantro and cucumber. Have to say, didnt know hotdogs go so well with veggies.- literally great cocktails for average NYC priceCon:-super crowded and the place is pretty small... I always like sitting at the bar as you are not bother as much- reservations doesn’t mean you won’t wait- when its cold out, you’re most likely waiting in the cold ❄️- takes a while for the waitress to get your order, meaning food is delayed- you have time limit
Fun and hip. A great place for a first date or to hang with a group of friends. Reservations are a must and the drinks are a bit pricey ($16). That being said, the quality, ambiance, and exclusivity make it well worth it. One of the better speak easies in New York. Apologies for the blurry photo.
Awesome speakeasy bar. called 43 times :D didn’t get a table so just went down 30 mins before they opened. sat at the bar and had the best service I’ve ever had. Drinks were amazing, and left shortly after trying this (pictures) rare whisky. An absolute delight, shame it’s so hard to get your hands on . Can’t wait to go back here!
I loved the novelty of the phone booth entrance, but the crowd of people around it took away from the subtlety of it all. We put our name down around 8 on a Friday night and waited almost an hour and a half to get in. Inside, it had a distinct speakeasy vibe with a lot of taxidermy along the walls. The drinks were delicious! The Noël drink with gin and pine was great as were the tropical drinks. The Shark Attack was surprisingly good.
Old school cocktails in a no longer secret room. Used to be great in NYC! However, Im down grading my post. Used to be first come first serve now it is about being trendy and knowing door person. Used to be cool now just another NYC attraction. Might as well be Times Square instead of cool St. Marks. Probably be a hop on hop off stop soon. Skip the wait, not worth it.
I looove the concept of a hidden bar of the roaring 20s and bootlegging era... first you see a hot dog restaurant, and on the left there is a phone booth with a red phone, in which you dial 1 and in a moment a wall opens so you can enter to this secret bar.. cozy, good cocktails and music. Perfect to go out with friends! Make sure you make a reservation so you dont have to wait!
Well worth calling ~100 times starting at 3pm to make a reservation for two at 11pm. Otherwise the wait would have 2-3 hours. Try the kimchi fried hotdog and tater tots. Led to a fun two hour conversation. Come. Relax. Enjoy your trip through the phone booth. I try speakeasies wherever I travel. This is not your chic prohibition speakeasy. This is that perfect fusion of a well thought out mixology menu meets basement hole in the wall bar. Don’t expect waiters in tuxes. Expect a friendly knowledgeable staff looking to make your night just right.
This is a really, really popular place. I came right before it opens at 6 and the waiting line is already all the way to the hot dog shops counter. If you want to drink at PDT, either be strategic about when you visit or expect to wait for a looooong time (aka dont complain about how you waited for forever because you shouldve known better). The bars really cozy and the drinks are pretty innovative!
Please Dont Tell is a lovely place to have drinks with friends if you have the time to wait or youve planned ahead. Call at 3pm day of to put down a reservation and avoid the line. Drinks range from $14-16 and they spare no expense making them worth it. Service is pretty fantastic as well.
First experience with a place like this and it was awesome. Definitely recommend if your in NY. The drinks are great and the service is awesome. The food is from the place next door so not missing out on a whole lot there. Only suggestion is get there early the wait can get pretty long.
You enter through a hot dog shop. Find the phone booth and dial number one. Then some guy with a beard appears. His name tonight is Derek. He takes your name/number and tells you hell call you back. You dont believe them, but what the heck its a Tuesday night maybe youll get the call.
I really can’t decide what to rate this place. It was definitely a cool experience. Not hard to find (if you’re looking). Looks really great aesthetically. We had reservations on a Friday night, showed up on time and were promptly seated but the hosts were unnecessarily short with us which I guess is part of the ambience ? I don’t know. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. I can’t speak for the food but the drinks were tasty. My issue was that they were exceptionally high priced for what we received. All drinks are $17. Okay, I mean, we came here for this, we’re not going to order gin + tonic and a corona right ? $17 is fine, it’s top shelf liquor mixed to perfection. But my issue is that they pop a MASSIVE ICE BLOCK into the cup before they pour your drink in. I mean, comically large. Imagine a Rubix cube in a rock glass... Or a cylinder of ice the size of a toilet paper tube inside a pint glass. It sort of killed the whole “sophisticated speakeasy” vibe and made us feel like we were sitting in a huge tourist trap. It’s 100% worth the novelty, but maybe don’t make the the focal point of your night.
Worth the wait! I have been to PDT a handful of times and each one was an excellent experience. Cozy atmosphere, hospitable staff, and delicious cocktails. The host has always been very friendly and welcoming, and the bartenders not only make amazing drinks, but take the time to help you through the menu and give recommendations if you need it. I highly recommend getting a reservation if you can. Getting in without a reservation will require some patience, but you will be rewarded with a great experience!
Came on a Thursday, about 5:40 pm, and there were already about 7 or 8 folks waiting. They do take reservations day-of, then about 13 seats for walk-ins. Keep in mind, you’re waiting inside a Crif Dogs and the space gets pretty tight so get there early!Super cute set up, dim lights and lots of taxidermy. Intimate booths are great if you’re in a group of 3-5, and the bar’s a blast for a couple. The bartenders are very knowledgeable and it’s so fun watching them craft the cocktails. The menu is diverse and changes seasonally, with the exception of a few classics. While the drinks weren’t good enough to compel me to go again, the photo booth entrance and ambiance are worth the hype if you’re into speakeasies!
Hands down one of the best bars in all of NYC. Does it take a bit of effort to get in? Yes, but it is well worth it. The hosts were friendly and helpful, the wait time was accurate (pleasant surprise). Once our party of two got in the bar we were greeted by the bartender AK, and she was just a breath of fresh air! She was knowledgeable, accommodating, gracious, and recommended some extraordinary cocktails. We will definitely be back again soon- I didn’t get to try the hot dogs! Next time I will take the advice of the host and call starting at 3pm day of to make a reservation. Bravo PDT Bravo
MY BF brought me here as a surprise! It was and well worth it.Traditional Cocktails made to order and worth every once!We nibbled on a hotdog, just to say we did and worth it for the unique toppings.Since this place is super secret, I dont want to say too much, except that go.Reservations are recommended, but we picked up the phone and got in😉
Maybe lucky but on the third dial attempt got right through and got a prime 7:30pm reservation. Showed up a little early and the hostess seemed very accommodating telling us shed call us shortly as patrons exit. As promised she reemerged and summoned us not to a table but two end bar seats. We thought maybe the tables that were larger than expected were reserved for larger groups since there was an empty one just a few feet away. However a couple was seated there within a few minutes. Turned out for the best for us as it turned out to be more interesting overall. Ordered a British bulldog and hubby got a beer. We shared a tastey basket of waffle fries with many acutraments. A pleasant surprise. Enjoyed the cocktail although maybe a bit too much ice. Bartender however was just right. Pleasant, on it, just the right amount of attentive. Decided to try a second cocktail. Pear Excellent. Both were not too sweet. Strong amount of alcohol overall even with the ice but very drinkable with hints of the spices they add. Worked surprisingly well with the spicy cheese that came with the fries. For us a fun excursion while we had a couple of days attending the Westminster dog show. Small space but works. Has a bathroom. Taxidermy adds a sense off strange. I say go, have fun, enjoy!
Great collection of cocktails. Very unique, hidden entrance through a phone booth in hot dog shop. Wait times are long on weekends but it is worth it in the end.Best thing about the place are the chatty bartenders who will make just the right kind of drink you want even if its not on the menu.
A great speakeasy experience that lived up to the hype. The bartenders knowledge and skills were truly impressive. We had a 6:30 reservation and spent a couple hours here and it was truly hard to leave. First round we went off the menu, I believe I had what was called a Shipwreck, a gin based drink that was light and refreshing. From there we told the bartender what we liked and she built out the rest of the drinks for us. Combos I never would have tried but at her hands made me a believe. One drink, I believe called a spotted cheetah had Japanese whiskey and tea, outstanding.
Delicious cocktails in a cool atmosphere! I always bring tourist friends here--it has a cool speakeasy entrance (through a telephone booth), but it is hard to get reservations and the wait can be long without one. Ive always managed to get a table within an hour or so though and there are tons of other bars nearby to go to for a drink while youre waiting.
I cant say enough good things about this place. They have some of the most knowledgeable bartenders and they make some really innovative drinks. Their menu is quite expansive but if you are unsure you can always ask the bartender to serve their own creation. Which often turns out to be better than menu drinks. Dont get me wrong menu drinks are quite awesome. This is a great place to bring a date. Its cozy, not too loud, dim and has an exclusivity vibe. The only problem being that its difficult to get a reservation and walk in wait times on weekends can be quite long.
The interior is tiny. But it is a beautiful place. The mixed drinks are delicious and made fresh by pro level bartenders. The food options are almost all hot dogs from crif dogs and fries. The only problem I have with the place is its a matter of luck and timing to get in because they are always busy.
Cant fault this place- definitely one of the most inventive cocktail bar entrances Ive come across (and Ive walked through a mirror, a wardrobe and a fridge in London!). We went fairly early on a Sunday and the wait was still 1.5 hours- the charming host let us in a bit early though and suggested a local bar for a beer while we waited. Once in, the space was small but spectacular- the bar tenders were friendly and the menu was extensive- some of the best cocktails Ive ever had hands down. We also ordered a portion of tater tots to share as a snack- the portion was so huge it fed us both as our evening meal! If youre in NYC, living or visiting, definitely dont miss out on this- its fantastic and a place that will put a smile on my face for a long time.
Serious drinks for serious drinkers. The kinda place where off-duty bartenders go for well-made drinks that they can order for themselves. As a former bartender myself (who had bartenders sitting to either side of me), I can attest to the care and attention that goes into each drink fashioned.Yes, had to make a reservation, but that added to the charm. As did the fact that once you were done ordering, it was time to do. No camping out here! Love it.By the way, I ordered a non-alcoholic beverage for myself during my visit, and the barman produced an inspired mocktail. The Missus (bless er) throughly enjoyed her Manhattans.Despite being asked to Please Dont Tell, I cannot recommend this enough. Thoroughly professional, thoroughly enjoyable. Will definitely return.
Top-notch speakeasy. The entry through the phone booth is amazing. The cocktails are great, the lighting is low, and you are guaranteed a seat if you get in. They only allow as many people in as there are seats, so get there early or try to make a reservation. The wait time can be multiple hours, but tipping the doorman can help your cause.
Been here a few times. A lot of hype for little satisfaction. Decent drinks. Unique hot dogs. Will you remember it? Most likely. But really its like a graphic-tee vs a non graphic tee- They may look slightly different but fit the same. Better off going to a rooftop bar.
I think it was a cool experience. Ive seen some complain about the hassle of getting in, but I think it helps create the experience. Place is a bit small but I was ok with it. They have a unique list of cocktails to try. My only issue would be the price. Its like $16 a cocktail. Im not from NY so I cant say if thats the norm. But thought it was a bit steep. However I would definitely recommend for the experience of youve never been to a speakeasy and I would HIGHLY recommend making a reservation before hand so youre not waiting
Incredible experience. Make a r serration or you won’t be able to get in as they are very busy and always booked up. Feels very exclusive and mysterious which is super fun. The hotdogs are really good but for me the tots and the waffle fries were so so so delicious. And the star for me were the cocktails. Very creative, fresh, unique, and tasty. The bar tenders are very knowledgeable and very skilled. I definitely want to go back!
Expensive hidden bar with great drinks and good hot dogs would be the only way I would describe this place. The entrance is really cool and a great experience for visitors. I love bringing visitors here they always love it at least for 1 drink. Dont forget to make reservations though!! Its a must.
Please Dont Tell boasts a trendy atmosphere that is hidden away from the rest of the city. Their craft cocktails are super unique and tasty. The place is not too loud and crowded, making it an awesome atmosphere. Make sure you make a reservation, so that you are not waiting for too long. Dialing into the phone booth is very fun. Make sure you order tater tots from Criff Dogs and have them at your table.
PDT is easily one of the best speakeasy in the world. The cool factor of accessing the bar is brilliant. The cocktails are top notch. Its no wonder its been named one of the Top 50 Bars in the world for many many years. Also, you cant beat the fact you can order and eat the hot dogs while sipping on a delicious cocktail.
The speakeasy is small and packed so the only way to get in is through a reservation. I was able to make a reservation for a party of 2 on a Wednesday night by calling the number 46 times in a row right when the reservations open at 3pm. It took about 15 minutes but I was able to get through. The entrance in the phone booth to get inside seems to be the most unique part about Please Dont Tell. It has great drinks and atmosphere, but everything else was similar to all other nice speak easies in New York. Atmosphere is cozy and dimly lit. Its hard to differentiate the drinks between the various speakeasies, but the bartender was nice enough to offer drinks suggestions depending on our mood. I tried a sweet mango drink, and also a bacon style old-fashioned and both were great.
Its not easy to get into the speak easy side of this bar, but once youre in its super cool! Once you get to the other side, they seat your party comfortably at a table, where the vibe is quaint and chill. The drinks are all amazing - a true work of art! So glad to have been able to check this place off my NYC bucket list :-)
As a huge fan of speakeasys and hidden bars I was very disappointed. Even though we had a reservation we had to wait half an hour for a table and then were made to sit at the very cosy bar instead of in a booth even though there were two booths free. The drinks were tasty but the atmosphere was lacking so we only stayed for one.
This is a great speakeasy bar! My brother got really lucky! We called at 3pm and we were able to get through right away. It was a lot of fun being able to skip all the people waiting and hoping to get in. We just went to the phone both and called the operator. The inside was really nice. It had an old classy look. It is not a very loud place. You dont need to yell to be able to talk to the person next to you. They have a bunch of rules. You cant be loud, you cant be on the phone and no flash photography. They had a really great drink list with a variety of specialty drinks. I had the cranberry one and it was amazing! I like sweeter drinks so this one was perfect for me. They also have 4 different specialty hot dogs to pick from and really great waffle fries! The fries come with this big thing of cheese on the side! It was delicious!
I made a reservation here because that is the policy. When I showed up early the host politely said wed have to wait about 10 min before our reservation was ready. In about 8 min we were sat. Professional and courteous.Bartender Jeff was very helpful selecting our drinks. He was also really dreamy. He had these beautiful blue eyes that when you looked into them it was like angels singing to you. Id give six stars if I could. My only complaint was the couple next to us complaining about being sat at the bar because they were late to their reservation. They were rude to the staff and really loud. They complained about not having blackberry vodka. Must have been from Wisconsin.Im not going to dock this establishment any stars because other people suck. I did snap a photo of the troublesome couple.
Walked into this place thinking it was a hotdog place. The lady who told us about it said it was a speak easy. I had no idea what that was. So I awkwardly ordered a hotdog and asked the guy “uhhh, is this the bar?”. He pointed out I had to go through the phone booth. Anyways, that was a fun experience right there. Finally we get into Please don’t Tell, it was small but they were cocktail focused. The price was actually decent, and the cocktails were fun and flavourful. Also had a few craft beers on tap which was nice to see. Awesome experience.
I brought my friends here because I enjoyed it the first time I came. It was a busy night so they were on a 45 minute to 1 hour wait. We waited in the area for over an hour and then checked back in only to be rudely told that they had stopped seating for the night and we had waited in the area for absolutely no reason. If you can’t accommodate us that’s fine. Just let us know from the start and don’t tell us you can and keep us waiting only to find out you can’t. We won’t be returning.
Pretty cool speak easy. No secret passwords and not much room at all. Had maybe 4 tables and a bar that sat about 10. Ceilings were low and the room was thin, creating a claustrophobic feel.Bartender was great and very friendly. He made the drinks well and was strict with the pours. (Anymore and it would overflow the glass). It was a cool experience but at 16 bucks a drink, it gets pricey quick. Also for the new people, walk into the restaurant to the right of the address and when you walk in about 10 feet look left and youll see a red phone, pick it up and dial 1. The door next to you will open and youll be asked your name. (Make a reservation @3pm the day of) you can not make a reservation prior to the day of. Also, the phone stays busy so keep trying back... some people try 50 times. I got in on try 6. Someone else I talked to got in on first try. I called around 306pm and they called at 315pm. If that helps.
Secret entrance through a telephone booth and enter a cool little speakeasy bar. I came early with friends at 6pm without a reservation but I highly recommend making a reservation that can only be done the same day. Cocktail drinks are $16 which is pretty expensive. I had the Rusty Time Machine and must say it was delicious. I recommend coming here at least once if youre around St Marks.
The idea of the place is fantastic; entering through the phone booth in a hot dog shop is cool enough. Crif Dogs is solid for a late-night hot dog also, by the way. But dealing with the establishment to even get in can be a headache. They have a reservation line that opens at 3PM every day to make a reservation for that night. On more than 2 occasions, myself and my 3 friends tried calling a few times a minute each for over 20 minutes at 3PM never getting through. Calling again later after the calls die down leads to them saying they are booked. We did get lucky once and got a reservation, and we enjoyed the time quite a bit with some solid, albeit pricey, drinks at a decent hour. The only other time weve gotten in, we had to walk in after 1AM, and the atmosphere was completely different. The ambiance of the speakeasy was gone, people were acting like drunk idiots, and the magic was just completely gone.If you can figure out how to get a reservation, by all means, check the place out. But dont plan on it being in your schedule for the night.
We called around 4pm and got a reservation for 11pm, we did get in earlier as a spot had free’d up, the whole enter through the phone booth thing is pretty cool and exciting unfortunately not something we got to experience as people were leaving when we arrived so the door was already opened for us, the overall decor is pretty cool with taxidermy on the walls and atmosphere isn’t bad. After finishing our first drinks we waited well over 20 mins before we were acknowledged again to order more at which point we kindly asked for our water glasses to be replaced as we noticed we were given dirty glasses complete with previous lipstick stains, they did so without word of apology and quite an unpleasant attitude we only stayed as we had waited around the area for quite some time to get in. The cocktails were ‘ok’ certainly not outstanding I’ve had better drinks from elsewhere in the city. Several guests during our time had one drink and left and I can see why, overall not an amazing experience drinks are average service was below par, bit of a check box exercise to say you’ve been there that’s pretty much it.
Finding the location was a bit tricky, since it is hidden. Walking through the phone booth is a different experience. Did have to wait 30 min for 2 seats. Drinks were top notch, from the ice cubes to the straws, quality all around. Bartender was very friendly. Drinks are kind of expensive, $16! Would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for something different and exciting.
This was beautifully cozy in the craziness that is New York City in the holidays. We were able to sit down in a very private secluded setting and share laughter. But above all, the cocktails were phenomenal, unlike anything weve had. From great, cold beers to beautifully crafted cocktails like Witchs Breath. Call before 3 and make a reservation. Im not suppose to say much else but tip well, drink up , and enjoy...and oh, please dont tell.
Came alone without reservation and was somehow let in without problems. However, bigger groups of people trying to get in (mainly tourists) were told the wait is 2.5 hours which clearly wasn’t the case as the bar was half full during my time there.Other than that cocktails were nothing to die for. There are plenty other speakeasies in NYC that serve better drinks. The only gimmick worth visiting for is the entrance through phone booth.
Great little speakeasy! Call in advance for a reservation if you want to get in. The drinks are amazing and expertly crafted and the food is great. And come on, how many things in life are more cool than entering a bar through a phone booth located inside a hot dog bar?? Exactly.
I didnt want to believe the hype, but yes, the cocktails here are amazing. As the line out the door and unknown wait time are daunting, my recommendation is to start calling for a reservation. They only accept same day reservations beginning at 3:00 PM, and if you cant get through then try, try again until they answer. If any time slots are available, consider yourself lucky and take what you can get! Or, since doors open at 6:00 PM (I think), arrive an hour before opening and be the first people seated right when they open. This may sound like a lot of effort, but it beats waiting in that long line for hours on end - and once you get seated the cocktails are worth it!
Was not happy with this place. If you are looking for a quality speakeasy, this is NOT for you. This is like a tourist trap for New Yorkers. The food was garbage contrary to the reviews I read prior. Cheap tasting cheese sauce, tater tots that you can get frozen in a bag from Costco, and the hot dogs were subpar. Everything was over priced. I got one tiny cocktail for 15 dollars that was borderline just juice. I cant imagine its the cozy type of place to stay for awhile to drink the night away. Its too cramped and not exclusive. The only nice thing I can say is the staff I interacted with was friendly.
What is there to say that hasnt already been said. Came here on a Saturday with my friend. Youre probably wondering how we got in.... welp, we got in line (first in line) about 35 minutes before PDT opened. So yes, that meant standing in a hot dog shop until it was time to go in the phone booth and gain access to this hidden gem.We were seated at the bar. The bartender gave us menus and let us ponder. Interesting and different selection in cocktails. I had the mescal mule. It had a smoky, fresh, refreshing taste. I had never had anything like it before. We sat around for one drink and watched all the cool cocktails that were being made. It was relaxing and fun. The vibe was chill and calm. The bartenders were very knowledgeable and there was the option to eat hotdogs and tater tots if you desired. Overall I enjoyed my drink and would recommend coming if youve never been.
Staff was great. They were full when we arrived but took down our number and called us when a table was ready. Some of the best cocktails Ive had. I had the shark because I also love blue cocktails. Server was very engaging and didnt make us feel rushed even though we were the last table to leave.
I honestly do not get the hype over this place. The phone booth entryway is the only thing differentiating PDT with other upscale cocktail bars, and trust me, the novelty wears off after one visit. Ive been taken here a couple times by friends, but my last visit really stood out.I was there with 2 of my girlfriends, and we are all an animated bunch. We were talking and laughing, which one does on a Saturday night out at a bar, and were summarily told by the hostess to keep our voices down. Our noise level was NOT offensive, and we were nowhere near drunk. It just seemed so out of left field and made the atmosphere mad awkward. On top of that, the drinks were mediocre. Not worth waiting inside the Crif Dogs for 20minutes, tbh. Plenty of superior cocktail bars in the adjacent 10 block radius.
Total legit. Service is fast and friendly and the drinks are all winners. Also serves late-night eats courtesy of the hot dog joint next door. Ive read complaints here but seriously dudes its a hot dog joint! It does what it says on the tin: dogs, tater tots, and waffle fries. If you want fine dining then go to a fine dining restaurant. To me, really no surprise at all the place is an institution. Fun, relaxed atmosphere and great drinks.
I dont really get what all the hype is about.A phone booth entrance that you ring for the host to come out and wait list you for about 30-60 minutes ?So we got in ..Were seated at the bar.Cocktails are ok but expensive. The atmosphere was ok. Not to lively. Maybe a bit upscale ?I suppose the place is more suited for people that like a exclusive feeling to it.As three stars imply - its ok
The drinks are fantastic and the phone booth aspect is extremely novel and cool. The main issue is that for $16 each, you can find lots of really awesome hole in the wall places around the city. The absurd waits (as others mentioned with empty tables and bar stools) together with the very aggressive and unfriendly hosts make it one of the citys lesser speakeasies.
Love this place. Be sure to get a reservation this isnt a show up and get in type of place. Worth the effort drinks are amazing. Last time i was there the mixologist made my drink poured a little for him to taste and dumped it out. I asked why he poured it out he said it wasnt to the standard. I was like whaaaaaa. Also this place never lets in more people than can be comfortably seated so its very comfortable no shoulder to shoulder fighting to get the bartenders attention. All this comes at a premium its about 25% more per drink compared to NYC Drinks at other places but worth it.
Its really not long of a wait even though they to you its about 2 hours. The drinks are good and strong with several varieties to chose from. Plus you can order food like hotdogs and tater tots with your fancy drink. Yum! Its easier to get in with 2-3 people for the bar vs. a table.
Relatively good drinks but nothing off the wall, nothing blew me away. Now, why did I take off 4 stars? Lets see.1 star down because even though we had a reservation, we had to wait 20 minutes in a fried chicken entrance, all our clothing smelled like fried food.Another star is for the service, one of my friends does not drink alcohol and we could not just leave him while we got drinks before dinner, but the waiter did not offer a good virgin drink for him. My other friend had hard time to decide what drink to get and the same waiter did not help him.I removed the last star because of the drinks, all 3 and the virgin one, were good but nothing crazy.I was waiting a long time to go there but this was a great disappointment.
OK I would not have given it 4 Star if not for the help sadly, of Hurricane Sandy. We couldnt easily get a reservation here because you have to call at 3PM on the same day and really, how crazy it is to fight for a reservation with minutes-long window of opportunity!Well, so when a lot of people were limited by the choice of public transportation, we took the opportunity to walk in and see if we could get a table. We didnt get it right away but we snailed a cancelled reservation after an hour of drinking next door. The place is small and dimly lit and they dont take reservation for more than 4 people. It is a very interesting experience form going into a phone booth calling or asking for permission to go in. Some people call it pretentious but I call it mysterious. We were seated in the corner and the drinks were strong and unique.I got the Peanut Butter Cup. I know it is girly but I really enjoyed it. I felt like I was drinking a peanut butter shake and it is also very strong. It costs me $15 but the alcohol and flavor makes it worthwhile.I wonder if I would be able to get in so easily next time...
Cool little prohibition-themed bar thats hidden behind a phone-booth in a hot dog restaurant. Drinks are pretty pricey, but are different and actually pretty good. Its a small packed place and the only way to get in is through a reservation. Theyre usually at max capacity, so you might have to wait sometimes before youre let in. Definitely a fun experience.
While PDT lives up to the hype in terms of experience and quality of their cocktail drinks, the entire process of getting in is a giant pain in the ass.I definitely recommend you make a reservation in advance. Their phone line opens at 3, so call on the dot. If you go without a reservation, good luck getting in. Out of the few times Ive tried, Ive been quoted wait times of an hour to 3 hours... They take down your number and will eventually call you back if there are open spots. Spoiler alert: there are NEVER open spots. The actual bar, located behind a phone booth within Crif Dogs, is small and intimate. Their drink menu is modest, ranging from classics like the Paddington and Old Fashioned to more conceptual cocktails. At $16-18/drink, you can definitely expect some pretty tasty drinks. I personally loved my Old Fashioned, but do ask their mixologists for advice, as they are extremely knowledgeable and will help direct you to the right drink.Overall, a cool experience, but only if you can secure a reservation in advance.
Although its a bit difficult to get in (reservations are definitely recommended), Id definitely try going at least once while you live or visit NYC. The drinks really highlight the bartenders skills and continuously rotate depending on the season.Drinks are a bit pricey but its definitely worth it for a special occasion or treat.
This is an adult venue in the East Village that is difficult to find, with adult beverages, adult clientele, and professional, friendly waitstaff. Nothing like the vomiting amateur tourists that mob the East Village. It is people behaving well + interesting cocktails, with music that you can still talk over. You need a reservation. Our party of four gives it 8 thumbs up.
Now this is a speakeasy! Entrance located in the phone booth located in a hotdog joint... too cool. The reservation is a bit tough, but omce you’ve secured you can rest assure the experience will be awesome! Great craft cocktails with shareable plates. The caviar and tatter tots are a must have!
Waited 1.5 hours for a seat. Worth it. Our bartender was such a sweetheart and made the experience an absolute delight. I don’t drink alcohol so he made me a few unforgettable zero proof beverages without making me feel at all uncomfortable about being a teetotaler. Thank you for an awesome night!!
One of the best places for cocktails in NYC. Its a great atmosphere with wonderful service. Really does make you feel as if youve stepped back in time. The tots with cheese sauce are a great snack with your drinks! You need s reservation here otherwise youll be waiting even on a weeknight. Call the day of to get your name on the list for that evening.
The drinks are absolutely (and obviously) world class. For me what really sets PDT apart from the early third millennium wave of Prohibition-era pastiche bars is how it so deftly balances being a welcoming and above all a fun space for its patrons with all the class and grace of a place that can produce such unbelievable mind-erupting flavours in a glass. Believe the hype, dont read any more reviews, just go (preferably not on a weekend), you wont regret it.
Do not recommend this place. The wait was 2 hours and it certainly did not meet the lowest of my expectations. Very tiny place, and after 2 hours of waiting at another bar, we had enough drinks and just want to go in to eat and get out. They told us minimum one drink. I do not like being forced to do something. The vegetarian hot dog was really small and not very good
My party of three did not make reservations in advance, but we put our name on the waiting list around 8:30. They told us it would be at least a 2-hour wait, but Im lucky enough to live on the same block as PDT, so we were able to hang out at my apartment until PDT called us. It did take about 2 and a half hours until we were called, but this was to be expected for such a popular place. We were extremely pleased with the quality of our cocktails and the friendliness of our bartender. The tater tots with fresh jalapenos in cheese sauce really hit the spot!
A cool little spot to check out if you havent been. Its hidden inside a hot dog joint so dont look for a sign from the street because you wont find one. Inside the hot dog joint theres a phone booth to the left which is the entrance to PDT. Its a very small lounge with good drinks. The hidden entrance just makes for a fun new experience. Id recommend going at least once.
Please Dont Tell is the gold standard for how to mint money from exclusivity and allure. The entrance to PDT is accessed by a old telephone booth in a greasy hot dog joint. Although a little over-hyped, you feel part of an exclusive club just knowing about it- a feeling further enhanced if you bring someone who has no idea what is about to happen. Through the telephone booth is a small lounge and bar. Dimly lit and elegantly decorated, the telephone booth appears to have transported you back in time to the 1920s . The bar and waitstaff are impeccably dressed to match the decor. Drinks are pricey ($15), but well worth it. Reservations are highly recommended (accepted only the day of, starting at 3pm), but even so, you may be asked to wait. They will, however, call you when a table is ready. The hot dog menu from next door is a very nice, but out of place perk. Nothing like a Manhattan to wash down your bacon wrapped cheese dog.
Arguably the most well known and themed prohibition-style bar in NYC. Patient and attentive staff, with special notes to the hosts who have to handle a huge line of reservations and walk-ins. Very intimate setting, great for a date. Definitely call right when they open up the phone lines to get your reservation or you’ll be waiting a while.
Super cool speak easy like place where you go through a telephone booth to enter. Try to go on an off day and keep in mind you shouldnt have too large of a group. Food was ok but drinks were very good and just a great fun atmosphere. Good area in New York as well so fun and easy to find stuff to do before or after.
Good place for great cocktails... That is, if I can ever get in there again! Entrance is actually inside the excellent neighboring Criff Dogs. You dial a phone in a booth threre, and someone opens up a door on the other side and takes your number. But its often a 2-3 hour wait, so we go elsewhere!
Eh. Feels like a tourist trap. The hot dogs were good-but, they were just hot dogs. Expensive hot dogs. The drinks were small and over priced. They didn’t even let me go through the whole “enter the phone booth and press the button” process. They just opened the door and let us in. An overall disappointment.
Drinks:- Shark - blue drink is funYou can order waffle fries from crif dogs to your table. Yum.Ambiance:- More casual, and bright atmosphere- Giant bear and other stuffed animals, not sure if they were real. The wait:There was 3 hour to get in for 2 people, after putting in our name at 8:30pm. Theyre text you when your table is ready.
Its an ok place. I like the speakeasy vibe, and its a great idea to bring out-of-towners here. Other than that, its always a bit of a complication to get reservations (you need to call them day of at 3 pm), and Ive seen people having to wait for 3 hours to get in. Drinks are great and different (though a little overpriceD), and the hot dogs from the place nearby are a good add-on.
Drinks arent that great at all. Taste overly sweet. Had an old fashioned. More like Hi-C. Innovative though for sure. Skylark and Red Velvet were cool.Rudest bartender in the world. Deliberately ignored me.Worst service Ive ever received.EDIT: Manager comped bill and took time to apologize to me. May return for second try.
The drinks here were pretty expense along with the food. The atmosphere was fun but I would really call this a speakeasy as the code and process to get in the hidden area was placed right on the door. Also there was a high wait to get in and I wouldnt try and go there without a reservation.
The place was very crowded - so other people must like it but I was very disappointed. I love the speakeasy concept, but the execution on this was extremely disappointing compared to others Ive experienced.Once you get in the phone box it straight up gives you instructions, no secrets or passwords. Plus they just serve the same things out of the hotdog kitchen its attached to so theres not even anything rewarding about getting in.
This place fills up quick and unless you have a reservation it can be a challenge to get in, especially for larger groups. The bar is reserved for walk ins but fills up quickly! If you dont have a reservation, your best bet is to start lining up at 5:45pm. Any later, and you can put your name on the list and they will call you back when something is available. Bear in mind that this list can get up to 3hours long and is frequently longer then they are open if you try later in the night.Reservations open up at 3pm and can only be made for that day over the phone. Getting through is another matter. On my 3-4 attempts I only managed to get a busy signal.Since we didnt have reservations we lined up at 5:50pm and got the last seats at the bar around 6:30pm in the first seating. The hostess and the bartender were extremely friendly and patient. We enjoyed the drinks and bacon wrapped hot dog and tater tots, which can be ordered from Crif Dogs! Our favorite cocktails were the Mescal Mule and Brentford (bacon infused old fashioned), and the surprise hit of the night was the butter infused rum based Shark.
I travelled solo for the first time ever to NYC. I heard about this place & went to try it. It was absolutely the best experience ever. When you travel on your own, there is no wait time. The service was outstanding. Customer service with a smile goes a long way & will definitely travel to NYC again all the way from Sydney Australia.
PDT has slipped the ranks from being the spot you took everyone in town to visit, to an over hyped tourist attraction. As an alternative consider the plethora of nearby options including Death & Co, Angels Share, MACE, or another East Village watering hole.Waits can easily be 2 hours+ on a Tuesday for cocktails that are slightly above average.
Been waiting to come here forever. Tried to make reservations, but no one answered the phone. Showed up with an hour before closing and had the door shut in my face by the hostess. Disappointing to say the least for someone in the hospitality and cocktail industry after coming all the way from Tampa and celebrating a birthday.
Put down your name and leave for an hour or so-- get ice cream at Big Gay Ice Cream and hang out at the park. This place can have a very long wait. The drinks are well concocted and everything I tried was delicious. The prices range at ~$11 per drink. Atmosphere is perfect for a date-- so long as theyre not sensitive about animals.
They did say please, but I guess they wouldnt be in business if no one told. Enter Crif Dogs on St. Marks and go into the phone booth on your left. Its pretty straightforward from there, though you might want to call ahead for a reservation - the hot dogs arent the only things that contribute to the line out the door. Its a small spot, but the cocktails are phenomenal (try the bacon maple old fashioned) and they offer a few special hot dogs not on the menu at Crif Dogs.
Cool atmosphere but after finishing our first 16$ drink, my friends and I were told by the hostess that it “looks like you’ll be having only one round tonight guys” with no reason or explanation given. Terrible service, and we were not being disruptive whatsoever. Not coming back here, and I will not be telling anyone to go to this place. Is that why it’s called Please Don’t Tell?
So weve been trying to get into PDT for MONTHS and we finally did! I was pleasantly disappointed.Ever since we moved to NY theres been a huge rave about PDT. I was so excited going through the hot dog place to find this cool, secluded, exclusive, mysterious, little phone booth where you call to try to get in. After multiple tries, phone calls, etc, we were never able to get in until now. We passed by on a Sunday afternoon at about 6pm and they told us theyd call us just make sure to stick around the area. After a good hour or two, we finally got the call! We rushed back and we were ecstatic. After finally making it past the little phone booth and mysterious door, we get in to the real deal, the real room. Its dark, exclusive, filled with taxidermy, woodsy, antique-y. We had just had dinner and drinks elsewhere so we thought of just sharing a drink, it was four of us so we would only order 3 drinks. Well, you had a minimum of one drink and one drink only. They were too busy to even let us order two. We were all forced to have one drink but thats all we could have.I asked for recommendations to their drinks and mentioned how much I love aperol so they recommended one of their drinks, Queen Crimson. Basically, once I got my drink it was an 8 oz cup filled not even fully by a HUGE ice cube. If I were to take it out my cup probably wouldnt even take up of one third of the drink which just tasted like a cheap rosè. I had no energy to complain about the drink since they were already complaining about us ordering one drink each and not having time to serve us two drinks. Truthfully, I was disappointed by the rave, the drinks. I tried all 3 drinks that our friends ordered and I wasnt impressed. Very watered down and weak. Nothing special. If mix going to have such an exclusive, elite, special spot where you can hardly get in, be rushed and pressured, where they only sell drinks, then it bette be the BEST drink of my life. Instead, it was meh. Ive had better drinks in a chilis for happy hour. Well, not really, but you get the point!Bottom line, you gotta go at least once if youre in NY. Dont have high hopes. Dont order more than one drink.
Please Dont Tell is yet another iconic NYC speakeasy. A phone line that opens each day at 3PM allows guests to make reservations in advance, although getting through to an actual person (and securing a seat) is quite the feat. The effort is worth it though, if just for the chance to enter the phone booth in Crif Dogs and to walk into the actual venue. The dim, slightly eerie ambiance (thanks to an array of stuffed game along the walls) is easily forgotten after an excellent cocktail. Bartenders choice is an option for those who are okay with leaving the drink to the mixologists. While prices are on the higher end, its worth it for the experience.

2022-03-30Such a fun speakeasy. You have to go to the phone booth of Crif Dog. Dial 1 on the phone booth and someone will get to you.The hostess was kind enough to accommodate us despite coming an hr early. This was on a Monday evening so itll probably be hard to do on a weekend.Drinks were amazing! Just talk with the bartender if youre getting overwhelmed by the menu (we sat on the bar). The bartender was awesome as well and gave us good recommendations. Super chill environment and it was packed despite it being a Monday.

2022-03-14Awesome little speak easy with great vibes! Had a bit of trouble finding the entrance when we arrived and realized you had to enter via Crif Dogs and then go dial the phone booth inside. Very cool experience though! A true nyc speakeasy experience.Ordered the blue drink (forgot the name) but realized it wasn’t for me and the server kindly replaced my drink with an alternative at no charge. It’s very tough to get reservations for this place so make sure you book weeks in advance!!

2022-04-17Yeah well, by writing this review Im basically telling! So stop reading if you dont want any spoilers. Here we go: if you dont see a sign outside the place, well, they did it right. There is none. To get there you have to get in a phone booth which is WITHIN a Hot Dog place, called Crif Dogs. There you have to dial a number and then a secret door will open that will let you in... or not, since the wait line is huge and youll probably have to leave your number. Maybe book in advance. Quite weird for a speak-easy-kind-of-bar, right?Cant complain about the cocktails, they really are balanced and original. Is it worth 2 hours wait? Maybe not.

2022-03-23One of my favorite speakeasys in the city.. situated inside Crif dogs ( a hot dog place). Once you enter the hot dog place you need to look for the telephone booth and dial 1 for the host to let you in or put your name on the wait-list. There is a decent selection of cocktails and you are not limited to the drinks on the menu, ask the bartender or the waiter for additional options or to customize your drink.

2022-03-25Crift dogs was everything I expected, I’d seen reviews and whispers and a long time ago a tv show that reviewed them as a hidden gem 💎 and I was pleasantly surprised to find out the food was delicious ALL OF IT!!! The hotdogs were actually bacon wrapped 🥓 and toppings of all kinds all delicious 🤤 I, myself will definitely be back again!

2021-10-26This was my first speakeasy with a hidden entrance, and it was super cool! Once through the Crif Hot Dogs phone booth, you’re in a very cozy cocktail lounge with a great drink selection. The Paddington and the Molevardier were both very solid drinks. The fries from next door were a nice compliment. The staff was very friendly as well. Definitely a cool place to visit!

2021-12-27Visited Please Dont Tell Speakeasy 🍹@pdtnyc in East Village (St Marks) , NYCYou walk through a cute hot dog shop to go through, and dial in through the telephone boothWe walked in this very day as it was a weekday at 4 or 5 pm. We needed to wait around 15 mins.Inside youll have a darker , gloomier setting with booths on the ends and a bar in the middle. The brick & wildlife filled walls gave it such a homey vibeTheres upbeat music with a bar filled with alcohol. Thats definitely needed since the menu has almost 200+ cocktail options! We got the🥃 Suntory Time Machine: whiskey, sake, lemon juice, maple syrup, fig, & pecan bitters🍹 Ultimate Fizz Bee: gin, persimmon, bianco , lemon juice, grapefruit juice, egg white & soda🍸Matchu Pitchu: pisco, mescal, matcha tea, lemon juice, passion fruit, egg whiteAll in all the cocktails were fantastic, especially the Matchu Pitchu. Super refreshing with a light egg white@midwestmunching

2021-10-20Fun speakeasy experience thats been on my list to try forever and it certainly didnt disappoint! You enter through Crip Dogs, a hot dog shop, where you squeeze into a phone booth, dial the number listed, where you get let into the bar.Drinks were about $18 each for normal cocktails but very unique, creative and delicious. Watching the bartenders, it looks more like chemistry than drink making. The vibe of the place is quite interesting with eclectic artwork and taxidermied animals. My favorite piece was a taxidermied bear with a cap on its head.Came for the experience, stayed for the drinks. Would highly recommend!

2022-06-15Place is kind of cool as it is located behind a phone booth. It’s not too crowded in the bar, so it is more of an intimate setting. It’s a bit overpriced at $18-24 a cocktail.
