I was here on Sunday night with 2 other girlfriends. Even though cocktails are unique and interesting, the service is horrible. It took us asking 3 bus boys and about 15 min for a hot waitress to come by to serve us, who would not want to wait for one of my friends to decide on what to order which takes a minute. She refused to serve us later and we were served by a male server instead who stated that a girl had a rough day. Meanwhile, we saw her serving all male parties the whole night after. TLDR - service is only good for larger parties, female waitresses are too hot to work and on constant PMS. I guess that is what you get for a nice view and a 22 dollar cocktail.
The service here is the worst I have ever encountered in my life anywhere. The waitress takes 20 minutes to take your order, then once she does I cannot get her attention for over an hour. They are VERY money hungry here. I notice they pay much more attention to larger parties. Also, since the panedemic they do not allow reservations for 1 person. Since when is it legally allowed to discriminate against single people? I have been coming here for almost 20 years mainly because the ambiance and view is unmatched anywhere in the city. Now they are up to $22 for a drink. Last night I got the steak and chicken skewers - literally TWO skewers and the orders are $22 EACH and it is not even enough food to feed my cat. Complete ripoff, bad service.
This place is elegant with an awesome vibe! The atmosphere, food and drinks were amazing. The bartenders knew their mixology and it showed in the drinks. Our waiter Evan was very knowledgeable of everything on the menu and was very friendly and attentive to us. One bartender in particular Gavi gave us excellent service and amazing cocktails! Added bonus he’s really easy on the eyes. Great place to hangout, chill or go out on a date. Extremely Covid safe environment as well.
My girlfriends and I went here for a 39th birthday celebration, we were a little hesitant after reading some of the not so good reviews on goggle but we decided to give it a try. I am so glad that we did! Everything was great, from the hosts at the front desk to the waiter and service. I remember my cell phone dying and me worried how I would charge it to get the gps back home and one of the waiters offered to put it in his charger while we eat. Omggggg he was such a life saver! There was several other waitresses who stopped by the table and made sure we were good. The food was great and the atmosphere was amazing. Thank you to all the staff we came in counter with that day! My girlfriend really enjoyed herself thanks to you all.
I give Plunge Lounge 3 stars,, I only had the pleasure of coming here just once. But overall the experience was very pleasant and I had a great time. The seating area was nice, and the rooftop was great view.We did enjoy the drinks at this lounge, the bar tender was very generous and let us try a drink he recommended and was a great choice. The drinks are not pricey at all. I will be returning back to this lounge soon I had a great time.
Food was fab and drinks very nice. This space is gorgeous and has great views. But its very loud after about 3-3.30. I think the best time is just after lunch, when there are fewer people and they dont put on the blaring musing on just yet. I also like the decor and the zoning / variability of seating options.
STAY AWAY!!! I wish I didnt even have to click on a Star! I recently, June 23rd, spent almost an entire day speaking with Lawrence in reservations to make a reservation for a table for my sons 21st birthday at the Plunge Rooftop. My son and daughter were also in contact with him for the reservation. After going back and forth, I confirmed the reservation with him for 16 people and told him it may be a few more people, possibly up to 20. He said he was fine with that. When my son arrived there with his friends after midnight, he was denied entry because his group was mostly an all male group with only a few girls. To me this is absolutely a case of discrimination. I was never told by Lawrence that guys cannot just come with their buddies. If this was the case, we should have been told this as we were making the reservation and he would have went elsewhere. The staff was very rude and condescending to them. I called the next morning, as I wanted some answers from the establishment. After numerous attempts to speak with a manager, a woman by the name of ESTHER GONZALEZ returned my calls. She was also extremely rude, unprofessional and condescending. She kept screaming in my ear and would not let me get a word in. Is that how you treat people as a hospitality manager? Better get a new job. She told me that they never let all male groups in because it is a security threat. Really!!! Where does this come from???? She said reservations must be a balanced mix of guys and girls. All they wanted to do was have a good time, celebrate his birthday and those of the guys who wanted, meet new girls!! Anyway, my son was allowed to go in to get two of his friends that did get in earlier and the place was empty. It turned out in their favor as they would have left anyway because it looked really boring. They went on to 1 Oak and Tao and had the best time! They were allowed entry without any problems. I have never been so rudely treated. We had a reservation. This group should have never been turned away because of gender.
Amazing views, drinks pretty good (I asked for White Russian they had no milk or cream) No one has any style, everyone had t-shirts and jeans, or the boring black dress to show skin. I wore a white leather jacket, snakeskin jeans, silver pearls, high boots, great club purse - I was only one who put actual thought into my outfit UGH. No one danced, though I recall it bring a good dance spot in past.Oh well - a place to get a drink, see the view, move on. Blah
If I could choose “0” stars I would. As a guest who frequents staying at Hotel Gansevoort, I’m appalled at the level of service this rooftop offers. It’s definitely a complete 180 degree difference from the service I receive at the lobby and with room service. I went to the pool and ordered a few drinks for me and my gals..3 margaritas. The drinks took over 30 minutes to come out to us. The server(curly haired girl) knocked over one of the martini glasses and it spilled into my bag. I’m not sure if she even noticed or just didn’t care because she never said “sorry”. She seemed in a rush which made no sense at all given the amount of time we waited for our drinks. Thank goodness I didn’t have any electronic devices/important documents in my bag or I would’ve lost it. Another 30 min go by and our server was nowhere to be found. I then asked the life guard to speak to a manager and then our server finally shows up. Unbelievable!I will never stay here again!
This review is for my Monday night experience. The decor is nice and the wrap around outdoor seating is great on a nice summer day. Do I think it offers the best NYC view? No. Was my gin & tonic good? Yes Pricey? Yes Service? Okay Staff friendliness? Average I had fun though due to the company. Would I go back to experience the fri/sat party? possible but not high on the list.
The worst service Ive experienced in a long time. I dont even know if I have ever left a negative review before.I enjoyed my stay at the hotel but my experience at the Plunge Rooftop Bar was pretty bad. I made sure it was okay if I sat myself at a small table and then waited for the waitress to come back. Waited 15 minutes, maybe more, before I saw them again and even then they almost walked right past. They asked what I wanted, asked for a menu, and then waited another 10 minutes for a menu. Waited another 15 minutes to order but never saw them again. They didnt even come over to the section again and there were about another 6+ people seating near my table. I ended up leaving because I can only imagine how long it would have taken to place an order, actually get the food and drinks, and then to get a check. The place was not busy by any means and there were multiple waitresses standing around. The place has a great view and its nicely done, just needs better staff.
My wife and I were in NYC for 3 days and we were looking for a place to dance and have a couple drinks. Albeit this was a Monday night around 11:30 and the place was on point. Music, drinks and ambiance were just what we were looking for and we had a great time!! Did not have any food but the bartender was attentive and gracious and the areas around the impromptu dance area had great seating.
Was there for lunch, bartenders made great drinks and awesome service. Met lots of cool people had a blast. The food was very good as well I really went for the ambiance and most definitely the beautiful scenery that started showing up after 4 p.m. .Well come back again.
Beautiful view, very hip, great drinks, decently friendly bartenders. It is a bit of this is the place to be seen, let me check you out to make sure you are cool enough environment and the pool deck was WAY over crowded, all in all though you can over look the vibe for the view
Everything is amazing except the managers whore trying to manage! They dont know the basic etiquette and theyre no less than a racist. Idk his name but two guys who usually are suited, while on the same side theyre being too polite to the girls over there. Although these small managers dont even match our status but still you should look up to it. Cheers.
I guess Plunge has a new name. Either way, Gansevoorts Roof Top Lounge Bar is always a nice escape. Been coming here for years. Not to often though, since the lines can sometimes be unacceptable. One thing that I can let perspective visitors know is that places like this can get a lot of haters by the high demand and the long lines. So dont let the 1 star reviews fool you. This place on Friday or Saturday Night tends to have about 100 people on line. Theres no way that they can accommodate everyone and make them happy.Unless your Chris Kattan or Will Ferrel, dont expect to skip the line.Perhaps get a room instead of a $1500 Bottle service and throw your own party, other than skipping the lines with your guests.A few Tips:If you want to avoid the lines, come early.Wear dress shoes, since their Dress Shoe policy can really mess up your evening plans. No Shorts even if theyre Thom Browne, Tom Ford, G.Armani...Party wise: This place throws some serious parties on odd days.Im not gay, but if you ever want to see a serious party with really good music and people who actually have a pulse, its worth checking out on such nights. Guests are respectful. If you really want to have a laugh, check out the little hidden Club in the back of the Hotel. Be kind, theyre just trying to make a few bucks from willing suckers. - Pretty much its by invitation only or if youre a high roller, or bate (paid model). - Nice Club, if you like the typical mix of meatpacking club music. Not for me though. -Over all, this Roof Top Bar is nice year round. Bar serves up great drinks. Good selection of Spirits, Wine, and Beer. They have a pool, which i think is only open for pool/brunch parties or guests during the day.The crowds vary. You always meet some interesting people from wide range of professions. If the line is fair, Id check it out.
The staff is very rude, lots of limitations in terms of table size and where and when one is able to go outside on the rooftop. Got a table and spent around. $1500 on bottle service however after stepping outside due to an emergency, we were unable to re-enter because of the bouncers personal preference. Bad experience overall, not suggested. Go elsewhere, plants of other rooftop bars.
We recently went here for my best friends after wedding party. I was mortified at the admitting practice at the front entrance. When we arrived and said we were there for my girls party up on the rooftop. The guy at the front door refused us entrance, stating he didnt know about no party. We had to go so far as have my friend come down to the front entrance and he still didnt want to let us in. It was very embarrassing being he was allowing others entrance to the roof top. So we finally were allowed in but after a major issue about it. My advice is if you are a inter-racial couple dont go to the rooftop lounge! !
Where to start? After being recommended this place for our pre wedding night rooftop drinks after flying over with 33 people from Australia. We entered after booking a table, our waiter said sorry, I’m full outside sit there! We showed him the email proof of our booking in which we chose outside! He then kicked a couple off a table and then didn’t clean their mess and said that’s your table. After we requested it be cleaned, we then sat down only to be served for drinks about 20 minutes later by New York’s rudest waiter! We requested the cocktail sangria and we were told, “no they’re not in” we said sorry? “He said ok I’ll ask!He come back with an icy pole... a sangria icy pole! Granted, in the right situation, that would be delicious. This wasn’t that situation! We were supposed to stay for food but paid our bill and left. The waiter, started acting nice and was our best friend when we got the chequered 🙄🙄...if your looking for a casual drink on a rooftop. This isn’t your place!! Go to the standard and enjoy yourself!
I spent NYE here and I was very disappointed by the way they handled everything. It was waiting in a line for everything: a drink, coat check, bathroom. Aprox wait in line was 15min. The place was overcrowded, barely had space to move, let alone to dance. Also, they mentioned there were going to be some snacks/canapés but I have not seen any (maybe because it was too crowded). If you are considering this place for NYE, think twice.
Large outdoor and indoor rooftop space - I like that theyre open in the winter when they put up a clear barrier to protect you from the elements. Great location in the Meatpacking district with many restaurants and other places nearby to hang out in (this area has a fun energy). Near the Highline if youre feeling romantical. I like this place more when its not packed and you can relax in one of their multiple rooms.
I am a native New Yorker and will keep to the directness of how we are known to be :)Drinks: Good.Food: Excellent.Space: Rooftop bar! Really beautiful panoramic views of the NYC skyline!Scene: This is a very cozy and sleek rooftop bar/lounge/club. It is open and conducive to mixing and mingling. Good for get-togethers, date night, or out of town guests entertainment.Crowd: 20-50s Afterwork crowd. Pick-up scene. Mostly corporate types and professionals. Weekends it becomes the obnoxious playground for Eurotrash and tourists and for some unknown reason the place thinks its greater than itself.Worth checking it out for the views and comedy from the patrons.Service: Fair since it gets really crowded
The name says it all about this place. Over priced drink a a strict dress code make this bar one of NYCs worst bars. Dont plan on getting in if you are wearing shorts in the summer months. I will never go back to this place again. They have lost my business indefinitely
After going to The Standard (not the rooftop, but the regular lounge with jazz), I was disappointed by Plunge. I suspect its nicer at night when its not as obvious that the glassware is plastic (fine, its a rootop bar, but theyre scratched), the white leather couches are scuffed and its just overpriced compared to The Standard.Sadly, it was a gorgeous day out in late April, but they didnt let us outside. :(
Brilliant rooftop bar which offers stunning view of Manhatten. Only 4 stars though as smoking is not permitted and the area with the best of view of lower Manhatten was shut during our visit. Unfortunately, gazing at upper Manhatten with all its skyscrapers is not possible as the view blocked by another huge building (still a descend vantage point though).
Seriously overrated. Years ago this used to be the “IT SPOT”. Now you have to wait in line for 20 minutes at the bar when it’s not even busy. I tried to make it for happy hour before 7pm. When I told the bartender I had been waiting forever he told me he couldn’t honor it. It was seriously 1 minute past 7!! What a joke.
My colleague and I were in NYC on business for 2 days. We were told that we get to see the night time views of the city from Standard and Plunge. After exploring Standard the first night we took a taxi all the way to Plunge on a Tuesday evening. There were no people around. The place looked pretty empty. The African American guy at the door said he wouldnt let us in because we had to bring girls!!! What nonsense!! I showed him the Plunge website asking him to show where it says so. At that point he says that its his discretion to not let us in. We told him that we got a cab from a long way to get to plunge. He said he wouldnt let us in. We then asked another guy who was also at the door to give us directions to Standard hotel. The guy told us that it was a block away at which point the AA doorman told us that its actually 3 blocks away and gave us wrong directions. We got a cab believing him and sure enough Standard was a block away and so close that we could walk in 2-3 mins. Had i had a decent signal on my phone i wud have looked it up myself. In anycase such unprofessional behavior by Plunge employees is unacceptable!!!

2021-10-28Stopped by for a quick drink and ended up getting a frozen sangria pop! Interesting to find, as it’s up on the rooftop, but once you get there it’s a beautiful view! They’ve definitely made a bunch of changes since I took the indoor photos but the new look still is nice. Seems to be a nice place to hang out, and have a few drinks with friends. :)

2021-06-13Came on a Thursday at 6:15pm nothing was available on open-table but if you call the hotel they can transfer you to the roof to see if you can make a Reservation. It was pretty empty at this time. The service was fast and attentive. The prices are high but that’s the norm for rooftops. We got the burger, chicken & steak skewers the Out & Pride cocktail & Wine. Everything was delicious. The vibe is nice. Wanted to stay and transfer outside but all the spots were taken so that was the only bummer & The Pool area was closed.

2022-07-10Had a cancelation of our flight, so we checked out Plunge Rooftop bar. Pretty glad we did. Place was nice, drinks were well poured. This means the bartenders werent cheap with thier pours. Thats somewhat important when you pay for drinks, well at least for me. The bar staff were awesome, bartenders were great. The views, I mean you are on a rooftop looking over the NYC sky, just amazing. Would go again and enjoy this awesome place again.

2022-08-17Waited 30 minutes after being seated and a server never came to our table (not even for water...). we got bored of waiting and left. at least we got to see the view.... for free? lol

2018-11-04The bar is nice, the view amazing. There are just small dishes, no diner served. Drinks were okay but its worth a visit. The view is sensational.

2019-05-19The view never gets old here. No fussy bouncers downstairs either, they are just trying to keep the place from becoming too overcrowded. Mostly tourists and people who are not from manhattan bringing their visiting relatives. Expensive, but worth it because of the view. Then music is mostly top 40.

2019-04-28Went for appetizers and cocktails which were both great but the vibe is what really sold me! The interior is very bright and colorful and has an amazing outdoor area and view!

2019-04-19Drinks are terrible (served in gross plastic cups) by an inexperienced and rude bartender. The selection of beer and spirits is usually limited. Food is O.K. and food runners are nice but the only really good thing about this rooftop is the view. Stick to beer or neat spirits and enjoy the view.

2019-08-31Ultimate view of New Jersey at sunset, plus good drinks by the pool make for a pleasant evening. Servers seemed to be learning on the job the 2 times I visited.

2020-12-09Was here once, several years ago, and it was a great time. No complaints whatsoever. Nice place.
