Its a nice park but there are a lot of homeless people around sleeping there which is sad to see. Also a lot of dog owners walk their very large dogs without a leash, I as a parent has to keep an eye on those dogs. Like the female pitbull who was off the leash looking at my kids from time to time. I freaked out and went away. I wasnt comfortable at all. Most pet owners keep them on the leash. It was a good park overall.
Back in the days this park was the best one on kingbrige kids play freedom there now you cant even walk around the area with all this homeless people doing there things in from of our childrens is the worst thing ever happened there some should do some things for this little park....att.REALLY DISAPPOINTED MOM 😔
I go there for a quick run around the park. I gave it 3 stars because its been looking pretty bad recently because of all the construction they are doing on it. However its a small calm playground for children Id say 6 and younger. There are no swings only monkey bars, slides and small jungle gym. There are 6 benches for parents to sit and wait while kids play. Theres also a section where teenagers go to practice skateboarding. The park also has a center for both children and adults with different programs everyday. You can just stop by and ask for their schedule. Best of all the classes are free.
The park is great for all ages. Kids play in a playground area. Theres a bandstand for summer entertainment and a weekly farmers market. The Poes Cottage is presently under renovation, but is a good tourist draw as is the Poe Center itself. The Poe Center has many well attended activities, and is staffed by people who are friendly and professional. The activities include childrens games, Zumba for all levels and theres even a weekly writers group that meets there. Many outstanding artists of the Bronx have their work displayed for appreciation as well as inspiration. There is a monthly calendar which is distributed as well as posted on their website.I must add that Lucy does a great job of coordinating and accommodating all the activities at Poe Center.
This is a historical landmark and truly worth a visit. The visiting center offers a number of classes and exhibitions for free, covering a range of interests. The instructors and staff are not always the nicest or the most patient/helpful, but its free. The farmers market is here on Tuesdays acids the Parks Dept organizes a number of events here. The playground however, NEEDS WORK. There is 0 shade from the sun; youll roast sitting on the benches in the playground and the equipment gets hot enough to burn children. There isnt even a sprinkler!
Besides the historic significance, Poe park is just a great park to bring your kids to. They renovated the park and gave it new life. So many good memories I have growing up in this park. I know Im not the only one. Did I mention one of the coolest poets has a cottage that you can visit and go inside (per appointment). That alone should give you enough reason to show some love to this park while youre visiting the Bronx.
Theyre still doing construction. I dont get why all these parks in the Bronx start doing construction in the summer making it inconvenient for people to have fun. I love this oark a lot, but the kids playground could really use an update. They should make it more toddler friendly, and make one part more for toddlers and bigger, and the other part for grown kids, like from 6- 13...Its important to show these kids they are cared for and I wish the Bronx parks would show that by making the playground more fun as well...
Poe Park is a spacious place to bring your kids to play. You have Edgar Allen Poes last home there (now a museum) you can walk in and get a tour of the tiny house for $5 or $3 for kids. If youre an avid ready and a Poe fan, visiting the house will definitely give a better perspective- improved relation to his works.
Nice small park smaller than most but it has a play area for the kid, plenty of seats an area to play with your pets and it has a lounge inside where it offers free WiFi and they offer free classes subjects whick I am not aware of. Also the place of a memorial center housing the historic Edgar Allan Poe cottage.
Whats to say? I live close to the location and enjoy taking strolls there. Despite being a resident in the area for almost 30 years, Ive only visited the Poe cottage a couple months back and that was by chance. I was taking a walk with a family member one dreary Thursday, saw the gate to the house open, and decided to take pictures on the porch since were huge Poe fans. The tour guide mustve noticed us from inside and offered a chance to experience it for just five bucks each. And it was well worth the price. The opportunity refreshed some details of Poes past I had already known but floored me with the those I hadnt known. The guide was quite informative and his enthusiasm wasnt over the top. He seems like a pretty mellow guy who loves his job. I look forward to bringing others on the tour in the future. Honestly, the tour added more pride as an Edgar Allan Poe fan and as a Bronxite from Fordham Road.
Small. Not much to do or see in it but I love landmarks and history so it’s a must see. The tour guide tells Poes history in each room of the cottage. Poe was an interesting poet and seeing his cottage and learning a little more about his life was worth it. Recommended for kids 7 and up, and anyone interested in poetry or the life of Edgar Allen Poe.
I visited Edgar Allen Poes last residence. It was an amazing experience. The room in which his wife died feels like someone did indeed die in there. Because he was such a small man, the furniture, etc. was rather small as well. They have a gift shop with very interesting memoribilia at low prices. If you are unfamiliar with Mister Poe, please google him before going. You may find it even more exciting.
! Wow Poe Park have a lot history, ones the monument park in the area of the Bronx, when the time of civil War. the Union army use this area for stanby getting rest for prepare of war. New York City and the government of United States North American have to put this monument area Poe Park a museum, I call The Entrance Of Peace. God bless all those soldiers lose they life.
The Poe Park Visitor Center is a vibrant arts and cultural center and gallery space for kids and adults. Tourists will find a welcoming space and lots of information about the Bronx and sites to see. The most interesting people come through the Poe Park Visitor Center.
Poe park is literally home to the house Edgar Allen Poe lived in, when her wrote many of his best works. It is also the park where two teenage boys, William Finger and Robert Kane met to create the comic book icon Batman. There is also a community art center and a band shell used for outdoor concerts.
Just be careful going in there that Park is supported by the city for the people that use drugs they inject themselves in the bathrooms you have to be very careful you dont catch any disease like HIV or all the virus because what it goes there is drug users blood in the floor the lady that is in charge her name is Lucy rude person she doesnt even know how to deal with the public about to get beat up all the time because the way she act the city need to pay more attention or they going to get sued its unbelievable with childrens are not safe in there these Park became one of the trash hes pet Park in the city they give more benefits to people they never pay taxes then the one they do I hope they see this post and they supervise more than a lady and how it works over there with a drug addiction they have every day and the bathroom and outside the park unbelievable our children have to use the bathroom we needles in the floor not because they not cleaning just because the drug addict are there everyday

2021-07-21If you like history and/or American Literature and/or poetry, its pretty cool to see the house where Edgar Allen Poe lived, and by extension how the Bronx must have looked in the 1800s. They were doing renovations when we were there in June 2021, so we didnt get to go into the little museum or get close to the house. Theres also a playground nearby for kids!

2017-12-27I live in Manhattan and love exploring the boroughs. Poe Park was a highly pleasant surprise. Initially, I was just excited to see the residence of Edgar Allen Poe, but I was quickly welcomed in to the lovely community center. Although I arrived late, I was allowed to join a free bottle painting session where I met and made friends with local seniors. There are also activities for kids and a public restroom. Highly recommend !

2022-03-15The park staff is inattentive and rude. The public restroom is consistently closed. The park has rats openly running around.

2020-10-29The most I enjoy is observing all the birds that settle in the trees of the park,, during the 🌄 morning time, especially the Mournings Dove.
