Polizzis in other cities:
Really FABULOUS food. Somewhere back there where the magic happens, there has to be some classically trained chefs. From the 3 dishes I tried, all were perfect, very polished and well thought out (and so was the plate after!). Portions are nice too and the staff were extremely attentive and friendly. Would definitely come back!
Great Friday lunch options. Our group of 9 sat outside under the awning enjoying the rare good Rochester weather. Not only did the restaurant offer a great Lunch menu selection, but the service was quick and friendly. Free warm bread, water refill bottle on the table and quick refills of all sodas and drinks.Food was delicious and all 9 orders were accurate. Would definitely recommend and return another time.
Second trip was as good as the first. The wait staff is outstanding and the chefs are too! All the food is fresh, made in house and tastes amazing. Have to go back, more amazing dishes to try! So hard to choose between the specials and the regular menu. Pictured: Boundino (caramel custard), Cod baked with vegetables and rock shrimp, Osso Bucco
I’d return just for the Caesar salad and dessert. Entrees were great too but house made desserts are rare and many places don’t know how to make a proper Caesar salad. They taste like they use a cheap bagged mix dressing. This was from scratch, old school. I’m not a fan of croutons but even those were delicious. Prices were also fair meaning we will put this in our regular rotation. You could pay more for a pizza or burger in some restaurants. This place knows how to prepare a meal and the care they put into it shows.
We had the steak frites and veal marsala. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly. The atmosphere is warm and the service excellent. Blanche (the hostess) is super cool and welcoming, Brian (server) did a great job taking care of us, and the chef/owner came out to greet us after our meal. Top notch experience…will definitely be returning.
I had my birthday dinner here (party of 10) yesterday and it was such a great experience!! The restaurant looks nice, the reservation was ready on time and the food was perfect!! Our server Blanch (not sure how to spell her name) was amazing!! She was so sweet, smiley, accommodating, tentative, and gave great food recommendations. The shrimp appetizer did not disappoint, the osso bucco was so tender and flavorful and the Crème brûlée was traditional and perfect! This was my first time here and I look forward to going back!
We made a late decision to go to Polizzis after visiting the MAG. So glad we did. Ignoring the blah ambience of Village Gates passageway, once inside the ambience was most warm. We were served promptly and attentively and warmly (a tough combination for some places). We had a tough time choosing from the menu and specials (as in I wanted almost all of them). Both of us totally enjoyed our dinners. And thoroughly enjoyed our conversation with the Chef; not often you get an in-depth discussion on Moussaka having a layer of potatoes or not. I am so pleased to recommend this place. Oh - and they packaged our leftovers in eco-goodguys packaging. A smile when I opened the fridge today.
Great restaurant with Fabulous food! I was there last night with 10 people for my 50th Birthday. Chef Tom was able to accommodate all of us even with the new Covid restrictions. Everything that came out of the kitchen was definitely homemade, right down to my Chocolate Cake and Vanilla ice cream. Our server Joe was very attentive. Thank you Tom and staff for yet another great evening.
Im always looking for a great restaurant experience in Rochester, and I came across Polizzis. I am SO glad I did. Ill admit, I LOVE saganaki. Usually the only place I can find it is at the two Greek festivals in Rochester. But with COVID, neither festival is happening. I found my saving grace at Polizzis. Not only did they have saganaki; their menu is a fantabulous fusion (yes, thats overused) blend of Greek, Italian, and French cuisine and all of it DELICIOUS. Angie took great care of my dad and I, and the owner/head chef (so you KNOW hes going to take care of the details) came around to ask how everything was. This is a place that truly CARES about giving you the absolute best--not to get five-star reviews, but because they are dedicated to giving each guest the best experience they can give you.My dad had the seafood special with saffron rice. He loved it, and even though hes not a rice person, he was very much looking forward to his leftovers. I had the mushroom risotto and...just yum.I had the butterscotch budino for dessert and OH MY GOD. SO freaking good. Dad had the cheesecake, which he loved. We are both looking forward to many future visits. Polizzis is a new Rochester gem. We cant wait to go back.
Delicious food and nice atmosphere, outstanding service. We went for our 10th anniversary and noted the occasion when making our reservation. The owner came out to congratulate us. The service was stellar and the food was amazing. I definitely recommend it and well be going back.
We also shared mushroom risotto. Our dishes were amazing but we felt the risotto was a little flat. Bar service was a bit slow too. This a friendly, comfortable place with really good go. We came here again as the food was amazing. Interestingly had the same bartender who is friendly and knows his wines. He is not blazing fast like I would want in a high paced bar but he is perfect for a small place like Polizzis.
Ate here Feb 2019 - food was prepared and served to high standards. Not only was the food (we had the veal tenderloin, asparagus appetizer, and polenta fries) very tasty with great sauces, but the presentation on the plate was appealing with attention to detail. The bread also appeared fresh baked and was great. Service was to the same high standards. The dessert (we shared a Goddess cake) was very yummy and indulgent, and provided a great finish. The ambiance (we were there on a somewhat quiet night) was somewhat formal and quiet - we had no problem holding an easy conversation, something that is often hard to do in contemporary restaurants these days.
We were going to a show at RBTL and wanted a restaurant nearby. After perusing many menus we chose Polizzis. The ambiance is warm and inviting, very cozy. When we were seated we laughed and said we wanted to try everything so you know we will be back. Homemade warm bread with dipping oil was brought and our server Brian told us about specials. Our choices were: Greek combo platter for 2, a side of mushroom risotto, and artichokes french. Everything was perfectly prepared, and the flavors out of this world wonderful. So we ordered the dessert sampler. Again all homemade, all delicious. Our server, Brian was friendly and thoughtful taking care of us. I cannot wait to go back with more people! Thank you Polizzis for an unforgettable meal.
This place is solid. My wife and I either grab dinner or appetizers here before shows at RBTL. Honestly, the food never disappoints. Timing has never been an issue with regard to making shows and ambiance is upscale. Still, if you are worried about making a show, just let them know and they will get you out the door on time. We have also come with parties of four and six with no issues.
Excellent food and menu, veggie choices, bread beyond wonderful...hot, fluffy, tasty, easy to eat too much. Server top notch, owner is in constant touch with dinners. Noisy bear bar, window seats a quite a bit quieter. Padded seats, no need to bring a pillow. Dont miss dining there.
Amaya has a fantastic lunch buffet with a diverse array of options, including both vegan and non-vegan entrees, free naan, and desserts. Their dinner portions are large and delicious and their wait staff very attentive. Highly recommend!Delicious authentic cuisine and top notch service. Love it ! Will definitely go back
From the moment we stepped into Polizzis we were greeted by friendly welcoming professional staff. Our server was very attentive explaining the specials for the evening and most knowledgeable about the food, ingredients and preparation. The best calamari appetizer ever and the same for the Osso Bucco style Short Ribs. The Oahu Fish special served over Lobster Risotto was magnificent. And dessert of homemade Espresso chocolate chip ice cream Sangawich and a personal greeting and conversation with chef owner Tom Polizzi, made for one of our best dining experiences. Highest recommendation!
The food is amazing...delicious and beautifully presented! The staff is great...all very attentive, friendly, and informative. Great atmosphere, also. We sat outside on the nicely decorated patio and it was very comfortable. I highly recommend trying Polizzis if you havent.
I cannot say enough about this restaurant. I came to town to bury my mom and didnt know where the family could get together. Tom (owner/chef) made his restaurant available to us, the food was very good and the staff was friendly and courteous. Thank you all for serving us admist our sadness and the covid virus.
Stopped last night for the first time. I had the veal tenderloin. It was perfectly prepared with a nice pan reduction sauce. The potatoes were nicely prepared with pancetta. The spouse has the Carbonara with chicken. Also very good and a large portion so there were leftovers :). The wine and beer list is compact but still offers a nice well curated selection. Well go back!
Quiet atmosphere. Joe our server was very attentive, patient and helpful w suggestions when we asked. The 4 of us shared the cheese flambe for an appetizer and then we each selected a different entree. We tried the carbonara, veal, pork shank and a creamy risotto. Everything was delicious. We topped off our meal by sharing, fried ice cream sundae and creme brulee, desserts are made in house as well and were phenomenal.
Fantastic Owner/Chef and Staff! We celebrated our fathers 80th birthday! (22 of us.) All were very happy with drinks and food!! Food was delicious & served in a timely fashion. I would recommend POLIZZIs Restaurant for a romantic dinner in the city, a friend get together or a special party like we had. They can handle it all! Thanks for everything, it was a perfect evening!
Polizzis is a great place to spend the evening. The menu is fantastic. Ive been twice over the past couple months and the menu was substantially different in just that period. I will keep going back, excellent drink selection as well. Great for date nights or if you want to catch a show at RBTL.
Was told a 10 minute wait for a table so they could clear a table after a large party just left. So we decide to get a drink at the bar which took 10 minutes to get waited on. Continued to wait for a table; another 20 minutes. Decided to leave....told the hostess to take our name off the list and was told “hold on I can seat you in 5”...really?!?! Took our appetite some place else. Would never recommend.
I was there with a group (14 people) for a birthday celebration. The restaurant is part of the Village Gate Square, somewhat of a shopping mall in an old building. The handicap and regular parking is behind the building. Enter through the awning marked Entrance B located in the back of the village gate next to the Childrens Institute. This entrance to Village Gate is wheelchair accessible, and the restaurant is only a short distance away. The restaurant has tables suitable for wheelchairs, and the restrooms are unisex with plenty of room for wheelchairs.
Exceptional Meal. The Mushroom Risotto w/lump crab is delicious! Others had the Osso Bucco, it so flavorful you want more and more.Desserts are and eclectic selection of traditional Crème Brulee, to a whimsical Ice Cream Sangawich. A must visit for dinner, family friendly yet the ambiance is perfect for couples too.
Polizzis in the village gate Mall used to be the Gatehouse restaurant before they moved within the mall and it became Polizzis. My date and I went here for the first time for appetizers and a cocktail. Had a nice glass of Malbec but the appetizers were only so-so. my main complaint that makes this a three-star review is that the restaurant is like an echo chamber, every single word spoken by anyone in there echoes all through the place and it becomes loud and very difficult to carry on conversation.
Double date with our friends. The food was delicious! We sat outside and it was lovely. Waitstaff was attentive and friendly. The chef/owner came outside to check in with us. He obviously cares a lot about the quality and taste of the food he serves and take pride in it. We will be back!

2021-07-20Our first time dining here. Must say it was a great experience. Great service. We had wonderful drinks and every bite of our dinner was better than the last. We tried each others dishes and just amazing. Four of us had different desserts and we were not disappointed! Thank you for loving what you do. It definitely shows.

2021-09-22First time dining here. The food was excellent but the shrimp was slightly over cooked. Customer service was top notch from making recommendations all the way to how we treated being one of the last tables in the restaurant when they closed. Will definitely return here

2022-04-17Food was average this time, not sure if thats always the case as this was my first visit. I expected better given the prices. Like the atmosphere. If you sit in a booth in the bar area, be prepared for a bit slower service because the bartender has a lot to do for one person. We were not in a hurry, so it was fine and we liked the extra time to chat and enjoy our drinks, but if youre in a hurry, better let them know if you sit in that area.

2022-02-24My first experience here was last night, Italian Night and their specials were hard to pick from - they all sounded so delicious and classic. I chose the Penne with Vodka Cream Sauce and I was not disappointed. My mom ordered the Moussaka which I had never tried before but was pleasantly surprised, and she loved it. The pasta was excellent; creamy, garlicky, with delightful bits of prosciutto (and leftovers were just as good). Drinks were aesthetically pleasing and delicious, they have a great selection of beers on tap too. The staff was wonderful and they were able to squeeze us in despite being very busy. A definite bonus is they have great bread! Dessert was magnificent, I ordered the Goddess Cake which has layers of chocolate mousse, hazelnut cream, wafer, and ganache. My mom ordered the Creme Brulee, also very tasty! I truly loved it here, will definitely be returning!

2022-05-31Friendly staff, waiter. Chef came over after, such a great gesture! We did go at 5 so not super busy yet. Place is pretty. Food was excellent. The calamari frito(greek style) was a hit. The prosciutto salmon was perfect, really everything was. I highly recommend the place. A combo of French, Italian, Greek, American cuisine. Saved the day, as we celebr. sons College grad.

2021-04-04Great food and service! Highly recommend the vegetarian meatballs, even if you aren’t a vegetarian and the salad with figs. The bread and olive oil is wonderful. I also appreciate that they are open until 10 am most nights.
