United States Postal Service in other cities:
One of the worst post offices you will ever go to anywhere in terms of the staff. At different times clerks didnt know even basic postal rules and regulations and told me rules that existed only in their own personal fantasies, refused refunds on delayed Express Mail that was gladly and immediately paid elsewhere, refused to talk to me, stared at me rudely and blankly, and threatened me for asking for help or for legitimately complaining. Supervisors refuse to help with problems, give you a runaround, stonewall you, or will not return your phone calls for, literally, years. They defend the destruction of artwork and machines that they freely admit are defectively designed. Many people here refuse to work and treat their jobs as more of a vacation.
If I could give this place a negative review, I would. I spoke with 5 different people to locate a package that I was told would deliver by 7pm. It was an amazon purchase. On Amazon it says they have up until 8pm to deliver, yet Canal Street location closes at 7:30 conveniently. When I asked one of the employees at Canal St why they had me wait on hold for 20 minutes, they couldnt answer that question and they also said my package was not on the truck as it should have been. This has happened more that 4 times. When I asked to speak with a manager, I clicked on my amazon purchase to refresh the page and found that USPS LIED and said that my package was DELIVERABLE because it had the wrong address on it!I have to now figure out how to get my package and how to get AMAZON use USPS as a service.HORRIBLE.
Expect a 1 hour wait and tons of red tape for all sorts of obscure regulations unique to USPS. They appear cheap but actually end up charging you 30%-50% more than what their official website says online. Staff is underpaid and exhausted and have bad attitudes. They don’t explain the process to you properly and make you wait repeatedly in line for their mistakes. International shipping is not worth the amount of red tape you have to tear through, and domestic shipping is not worth the wait. You’re much better off with UPS.
Worst service ever! 3 packages (all of the ones shipped via USPS) were marked unable to deliver and returned to sender, forcing me to request refunds and re-order after the price had gone up and now later delivery, if ever. The 2nd package they told me had already been returned to sender the first day after attempted delivery. Amazon put me on the line with the office and they told me they would re-deliver the following day, which means they lied and hadnt sent it back yet. And then the next day... surprise, surprise: nothing. And then I called and they again said they had again sent back to sender. All this while I had received plenty of packages directly to this address by UPS, Fedex, Amazon Direct, and Target with no problems. And then the same ordeal with the 3rd package, which Im on the line with now trying to get delivered or, at least left at the office, so I can puck up before its sent back yet again. The USPS has no business existing...the government and government control is always the problem and needs to be eliminated in favor of private enterprise in almost all circumstances.
This is by far the WORST customer service I have ever experienced! I shipped a priority mail package for $6.45. That is what they charged me at the counter. Then I receive the package the next day saying I short paid $1.30. Then the person at the counter charges me $1.30 and ships it for me.I JUST RECEIVED THE SAME PACKAGE AGAIN! Im shipping this package to a customer and explained the importance to the USPS woman. However, the package is now at my apartment and not with my customer.I am furious! I will never again ship a package via USPS. Im only using UPS or FedEx.
Beware! If you are not home and your package is sent back here, it will never be found. There is one person at the pick up window to serve a long line of people. And if you look in the back, you can see that there is no logical filing system to store packages. No wonder why USPS is going broke! Choose UPS instead. In addition, if you are served by the carriers from this office, you may get a delivery every other day, if you are lucky.
Just terrible....should be negative star... They never leave a notice/slip if they missed you, that happened 3 times for me...The most recent time, I called (40 mins wait on the phone) and gave a time window for them to come, they went 3 hours earlier, of course no ones home again...and because no slip for me to put a signature on, again they took the package back. 3 business days later, I went to the PO to pick it up but they couldnt find my package... A lady promised me itll be delivered soon with no signature requirement this time. A week later, nothing... I called again, they couldnt find the package again, another lady promised would get back to me, nothing...Seriously? Do we pay tax to get postal service like that?
I have to say, that after an initially quite frustrating experience whereby the postman never delivered my package for 2 days and it appeared missing in action they did try to help and find it and although I had to pick it up myself at the post office, I was just glad to get it. A for effort, D for delivery. However, the supervisor is very rude and cuts you off , yelling at you...told me incorrect address and my business is closed which is untrue...never delivered my Amazon package. Some staff lies too, and some try to help, really just read the other reviews on here, everyone cannot be having the same poor service if its not happening. An overall MESS.
Eva was super helpful and helped me deliver quite a few packages today! She was patient and explained my shipping options. GREAT SERVICE!Please know that 12pm-2pm are pretty busy times. Come with patience and be ready to deal with a line. This is inevitable, so leave a little wiggle time. Thanks again!
This is by far the worst post office I have been to in ten different states. Unfortunately this inept establishment has lost nearly every package that they failed to deliver in the first place. Perhaps they do not know all their letters or numbers and mail is just plain confusing for them. Having said that someone should either shut this place down or educated the prison work release employees on counting or the alphabet. My suggestion is do everything online, start a claim, plead (beg) for re-delivery and then contact better business bureau, rate them online and hope to god someone can hold these degenerates accountable.
And they wonder why the USPS is bleeding money. I mean I dont think you could offer worse service is your tried. This is the problem with having employees that essentially cant be fired. When you know you are going to get your raise, and keep your job no matter how bad you suck at it, there is NO REASON to do a good job other than the fact you have decent character. clearly very very few people that work for the USPS have character. Working for the USPS is almost like getting welfare. Money for no work.
This post office is terrible, for years and years! Some staff members are good, but God save you, if you need to change your address, get your mail delivered to an actual address, or find a package! They have lost a package of a much needed supply of meds today. And the women, (not all, but most), so full of tude. What a minestry of misery and humiliating. If you need to waste time, this is your destination. Third world service.
Sure this place is conveniently located close to my home, but the service is absolutely atrocious. Without failure, every time I come to this post office I get a rude comment or nasty look from the employee at the desk. Today I went to drop off a package where the woman told me I would have to pay for the box even though it has a pre-paid shipping label. No problem, I went home and reboxed the packages, and came back to drop them off at 12:57 (knowing they close at one oclock.) The woman who I spoke with earlier told me they are closed for lunch, when I repeated the hours to her she just brushed me off and I left. So going back for the third time later today....
At this post office you should expect to be treated by incompetent, disrespectful, extremely slow, worse-than-AI human intelligence that are rather authoritarian than service minded. They are very talented at making customers feel like inmates asking for a favor from a correction officer. Customers are expected to know “the Law” handing in correct documents at lightning speed. Eyeballs will be rolling out of the sockets if you ask a questions, any mistakes youll go back to the end of the line. If you dont wish to be ripped off and leave this place frustrated, angry, and perhaps not even getting your business done, bring your own pens, boxes, and tapes.
I work at a business open 7 days a week from 9am to 6pm. We have clients send overnight envelopes that are to be delivered on Saturdays and their mailman scans in and says we are not open. During the week overnight envelopes are scanned in at 11:35 am and not delivered till after 3pm. Our post office is on Canal St and the supervisor will not do anything about it! As of right now, im on hold waiting for the supervisors supervisor because she said it will get here when it gets here. So glad our clients paid for overnight Saturday morning delivery!
Came here on a Saturday morning, noticed two staff working in the front with customers. One was luring and assisting customers with the do it yourself postage machine and another behind the clerk window. The staff working at the clerk window seems to be on autopilot just slurring jumbled up words that I dont even understand and made no eye contact with me. I know you do this speech everyday, 5/6 days of week for what 50/52 weeks out of the year but you are being paid to do it and to offer real assistance to the taxpayers! Its not everyday I mail out certified mail, so I will appreciate it if you dont rush through your speech and explain my options. K, thanks!
Called to see if 2 packages were there. The woman who finally answered the phone after letting it ring for 2 minutes hung up on me in the midst of me trying to tell her that the 2 separate attempts to deliver to my work and finding the business closed, is absolute BS! Both times the store was open and employees were on site. The USPS is absolutely worthless and filled with people who have no work ethic and are lazy beyond description!
Horrible service. The postman said he left the package ( big Amazon package with 3 items in it) inside my mailbox (5×5) on a labor day holiday when my building 109 Lafayette is closed for the business. The package s long gone. Going through back and forth and Amazon and i was refunded. God knows where the package s gone. We have security camera and i dont even wanna waste my time on it. Now again before 8 oclock on Sunday morning, a postman tried to attempt to deliver the packages when the building is closed. I just hope its not gonna disappear like last time. Im an exMarine and currently civil servant myself. Im surprised that this USPS s not out of service yet with the service that they doing for public.
Would give 0 if I could. They’re inept and all around terrible. Rude borderline verbal assault via the supervisor ms. Jones who holds personal vendettas against customers instead of addressing the missteps of the staff. They know the area well but will refuse to deliver mail to make a point. Absolute worse and will send their mail men to your workplace to deliver spiteful messages like thugs. Avoid like the plague.
I never write reviews online, but I am starting today. I had a horrible experience with the PO at Canal St. I brought all required documents to receive keys for a reserved box, and somehow I left without the keys - having been completely ignored and dismissed by unfriendly staff. Would definitely not recommend using this location.
KEEP INSISTING IF YOU WANT YOUR PARCEL! They lost one of mine. When they tried to sell me the same story a fee weeks later, I insisted they keep looking for my parcel because I knew they have it! It took 30min and 3 different employees to finally locate it. The first two were just TOO LAZY AND/OR STUPID to find it IN THEIR OWN OFFICE. What a waste of time!
I called 6 times, each time I was transferred to the inquiry department, but what actually happens is the phone just goes silent and does not transfer you to any where! I call back and say PLEASE dont transfer me, I just want the direct number because it simply disconnects me when ever you try to transfer me to Inquires. Ok... yeah, hold sir. *CLICK*Useless! Just go in person and punish yourself in line for 45 minutes instead, since you will ONE DAY actually be put in contact with someone who MAY be able to help.
They are not actually open on Sundays! I came here to mail an important package and they were closed when the hours indicate that they should be open from 7am - 6pm. I got there at 10am. Doors locked. Lights out. And the door doesnt actually have the hours of operation posted. Disappointed.
No live representative at the 1800 national number or the local number. Tracking said delivery was attempted which never happened and that a notice was left (never left), and that it would be automatically redelivered (nope) and also that I had to go in simultaneously to pick it up.
I find it funny how I was expecting a package today from amazon that I ordered a week prior and it was “delivered” but I never received said package when I go to claim my package the man tells me it was delivered I don’t have it I speak to this manager and now it’s to be delivered on Monday but I HAVE CONFIRMATION FOR ITS DELIVERY so Where the hell is my package ? This is by far the worst post office I’ve ever been to I work literally 6 blocks from this location ? I went to pick my package up and I still didn’t get it get your stuff together
I rate the Post Office on 4160. N Canal, one of the lying recording of all PostalService, you. call but you never speak to anyone at all they put you on.hold and nobody never answer I was on hold for at least ten minutes and know body answer the phone, they just hang up on you
Left a slip in my mail, I arrived to pick it up but my package was not there. Guy told me to come at 8 (also the slip says they open at 8) but actually opens at 9. Now I have to come here 3 times... these are the moments I hope the government privatize USPS. BAD SERVICE!

2022-06-03I was all for saving USPS until I came here and my dreams died. They loose my packages daily and couldnt care less. The service is awful - a line 30 minute wait online (with no one else there) is a good day. They also like to yell at people. Scary place avoid at all costs.

2022-03-31It wouldn’t be a New York post office without the attitude of the workers. At this location, a woman allowed a person to skip me just because I couldn’t tell who they were talking to. When it’s my turn, the woman grabs my box with a side eye and ask her coworker if she can put a label on my package. **YES YOU CAN, it wasn’t that small ** then to save her time I said, I’ll take the cheapest delivery rate which is the 2.75 option. She responds with an attitude “ I don’t know what the cheapest is, choose your delivery time “ Even though on the screen it clearly says the 2 day option. So I say the 2 day option, then I accidentally put in the wrong card and I let her know. She yells “ YOU SWITCH THE CARD ?? “ I say no, just the wrong card. From there, we did the transaction again and got the receipt. Sis, if you don’t like your job, please leave…

2021-11-24I called in to get some help with a missing package. They were very friendly and helpful! I know the post office gets a bad rap a lot of the time, but I think they do the best they can - which I appreciate. Thanks to all you postal workers at the Canal St. Post Office!

2021-09-23I never write reviews. My USPS problem isnt yet solved. However I went into 2 USPS offices in the area this morning and both offices had staff who were only helpful. The first USPS the lady was lovely and told me to go to Canal St. Then at the second office they were again attentive, communicated well and friendly. Thanks for the help Lui.

2021-05-07I came here to get postage for a package. The post office is spacious and has the lines clearly denoted. However, every time I come here there is only one person working at a time. And they are very slow. So, something that should be in and out would take longer.

2019-10-31The best place in the area to do shipping/mailing. Whatever service you need, the post office will have it. I found the staff to be helpful and friendly and was able to mail my package in less than 5 minutes (during the early afternoon). Make sure to have your package/mail all sealed up with an address before going to the window to expedite the process. Your experience may vary, but I had a pleasant interaction at this post office.

2020-02-14Very disorganized. Couldn’t locate a package I’ve requested to pick up in this location. They scanned the package to be returned to sender despite of my request to hold the package and I came to the location 2x in attempt to pick it up. Not to mentioned that there were 14k gold items in the package. They mishandled everything. Was told someone will reach out but nobody ever did. How would you return a package to sender when recipient is actively trying to pick it up..!

2017-02-08I love this post office and its retro Decor. Walking inside transport you back to at 1940s post office. What really makes me angry is that they take up more than half of the street in parking. See the photo attached

2020-07-24Worst post office ever. The postal workers are too lazy to open a door at a restaurant to drop off a package. Even though there are guests sitting outside and a full staff on site. Constantly marking as unable to access. Please teach your postal workers how to open a door. It is super annoying to have packages delayed due to incompetence.
