We stayed there a month ago, and they are still charging us outrageous fees for no reason. We literally stayed ONE night, no damages, no nothing, we were barely even in the room for most of our stay because we were out for most of the night. A week after we stayed, we noticed we got 2 $40 charges from them, we called and spoke with the accountant, and they then told us to call our bank to dispute the charge. Now, its a month later and we just got charged $170 dollars from them. This is so ridiculous, unprofessional and such an inconvenience! We will never be staying here again because of their unorganized and idiotic method of charging guests. (Also the hotel smells like cigarettes!)
Got married on May 13th, 2022. I can not say enough positive things about this hotel and venue! Michelle was wonderful with answering all our questions that came up leading to the wedding day! Our maître d’ the day of was fabulous! Had our drinks for us before we were finished and was just overall amazing! Food was fantastic and the steaks were HUGE! Everyone keeps talking about our food and what a great time they had! We had the perfect weather for an outdoor ceremony! Highly recommend! At the end of the night our maître d’ brought our stuff right to our room and made sure we were set!
Was clean but charges $150 coincidental fee. Other hotels only charge $50 its not that fancy of a room to charge $150. Yes for weddings its nice. They said would be back on same day you check out. Then told us it will take 7 to 14 days to get it put back on and said because I used a bank card not a credit card. Once again no other hotel has done that to us. We have stayed in a lot of hotels in poughkeepsie.
Positive: Location and bar service was excellant Negative: W had 4 people staying in the room and the toilet was not working. Had to use the bathroom in the lobby. I brought this to the attention of the front desk as we were in the process of checking out. I was told I could be helped. found the hotel unclean
Rooms are super out dated but I have stayed in worse. The room toilets you have to do a super long press to flush pretty sure you can clog them if you sneezed in them. Stayed here for a wedding the main lobby and wedding rooms are very nice, food is good, cocktail hour was good also. Now the bar was questionable they wouldnt serve you in the reception until after the bridal party entered and still wouldnt serve until after the first couple of dances which was frustrating a solid half hour of no bar service. Then the Jack that was being served in the cocktail hour tasted question as well didnt taste quite right off the bat my dad can only drink Jack he is allergic to Jim Beam and Evan Williams next morning he woke up sure enough he had a rash on his arm so definitely refilling bottles with the cheaper stuff thing is Jack isnt even much more expensive pretty lame to save a few bucks here and there.Scores Overall:Food: 4/5Rooms: 2/5Service: 3/5Bar: 3/5
My experience with this hotel is horrible i will give you warning with the receptionist and the manager they take you information you card and they charge you.they lie about room availability they lie about everything just for take you money.Becareful everyone. The manager is a nasty person and is not helpful at all
For what is supposed to be a 5 star hotel, not even close. Where do I begin....Price. Way too high and the rooms arent even basic.Super small refrigerator. 1990 microwave. Continental breakfast consists of bread, fruit, and a drink. Where is the eggs? I would not recommend this hotel.I rather stay at the holiday inn
Absolutely ridiculous parking !!!!!!!!!!! I left Rudolph tonight and it’s been an hour and half and I’m still sitting in my car waiting to leave, I haven’t even left my spot !!!!! I have two small babies with me and they are freaking out. Let alone every other car near me with small children. At 9pm at night!!! This was now NOT an enjoyable time. They need to figure out a better way to leave !!!!! This is totally unacceptable!!!! When having an event like this it needs to be better planned for cars leaving. Even if this is the hotels parking and not the actual Civic center, get together and make a plan for events !!!!! This is to okay! Everyone had kids with them and this just ruined everyone’s night the day before thanksgiving! DO BETTER GRAND HOTEL PARKING !!!!!!
We stayed at the grand Poughkeepsie for our wedding and had a great experience. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Keisha Jones was amazing and super helpful answering all my questions leading up the wedding. She ensured our guests checked in smoothly and handed out our welcome bags. She also helped arranged shuttles to our venue. I would recommend this hotel to other guests in the future
Checked in by an inexperienced staff member which made the process take forever. Asked about late check out was told by female staff member in a rude voice no we are very booked. Rooms not really up to date. Lots of noise in the hallway in the middle of the night. Beds were very uncomfortable and each bed only had 2 pillows. The shower is very slippery (no mat or shower strip to prevent a fall). I had expected better from this hotel for the rate they charged. I travel a lot and I dont plan on staying here again.
Had a wedding at the Grand View down the street, It was absolutely fantastic!! We stayed here at the Grand Hotel and what a disaster that place is. Horrible service and very rude staff. As unfriendly as it gets. The front desk didn’t even handout the welcome bags the bride made unless you asked them for it. The mother of the bride payed for the the hotel bar to stay open late until 12am…they had last call at 11:35pm.Rooms need upgrading and are not worth $200 a night.
They did a fabulous Job with my cousins wedding , place was beautiful, food was delicious decorations were marvelous awesome staff perfect up until the room stay…. The room was nice but the bed was like sleeping on wooden boards hate to say but this was the worst hotel bed I’ve ever stayed in all my life and I’m 53 … I judged the book by its cover and was disappointed
We attended a wedding at Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel on Saturday July 10th and had a great time. The garden ceremony was beautiful, the cocktail hour was great, and the Terrace Ballroom was a great venue. The waiters were awesome, especially James who was extremely attentive and made sure our water glasses were consistently refilled. The guest rooms were a little outdated and noise from hallway was very loud. For the rate of the room, we are giving the hotel 4 stars.
The hotel is definitely not worth the price of the room. It looks just like any other standard, decent hotel room. Things are outdated, towels very scratchy, bed is only okay. Getting back and forth to the parking garage is super weird and the shuttle services look like theyve been through hell - chairs ripped up and dirty floor.
Stayed at this hotel for one night, and will not be back. Beds are uncomfortable, the sink leaked, tv remote didnt work, and the primary lamp switch didnt operate. To add to that, there were too many room imperfections such as wall paper peeling off and the rusty light fixtures. Also note that in the river view rooms, you cant actually see he river - just the bridge in the distance and the large parking garage below. I gave it two stars as the staff was friendly, but the building is due for a complete update.
Never been here before either to stay overnight or for any parties. All the stay was courteous and knowledgeable. We stay for a Valentines Day special they were having so we got a special rate that came with a three course dinner, full open bar and breakfast the next day. It was all fantastic. The food was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I think during the dinner dance the staff was a little discombobulated because our server never really got our drink orders right and scrambled our food orders I got a steak that was medium instead of rare but it was still really good. The rooms need updating they seem kind of old. Our room had a great view of the river and bridge, a view we dont get too often since we live in a different part of the area. If they had one of these specials I would come back. It was really fun.
I went on Saturday September 25 to see if they had rooms available for that day, I arrived at 9 am, the guy at the reception asked me for my ID and my debit card and then told me that there were NO rooms available, that I had to return at 12 To see if they suddenly vacated one, I returned at 12 and there was another employee who told me that there were no rooms available, and that she would return at 3 pm, which I told her that then No and that I was no longer interested in getting hotel accommodation. They never asked me for my phone number or email address, i did not sign any paper, and the next day I realized that they charged me for a service that I never received, I called the manager and in a very rude way she told me there was nothing to do, they stole 324 dollars from me, VERY RUDE STAFF FROM START TO END.
Very elegant but needs some updating, organizing. Staff was so friendly. Location was ideal. The cabinet in the room, the door hinges were broken. The closet doors were immovable (rusty tracking and doors not fully on the track). Difficult to locate the complimentary breakfast room (and the floor was being mopped down the hallway leading to breakfast). It was clean, within walking distance to the water and some brew pubs.
Attended an event to the brunch was great. Lots of variety including great fresh fruit and made to order omelets. The only thing that can be improved was the coffee. In fact I have attended numerous events over the years that were hosted at the Poughkeepsie Grand and the coffee is always bad. Way too strong and they use milk not cream
Absolutely beautiful, I am having my wedding there this year & can not wait! The staff has been so helpful & very knowledgeable! They have made every request I had come alive! The food is amazing, very clean & what better way to to celebrate a wedding & go right upstairs to your room! Cant get better than that!
Hotel room was pretty standard. Clean, and temperature controlled. Bed was firm, but comfy. Pillows were too soft for my liking, and flattened down to nothing. The bar was very nice looking, and the drinks were good. The food was better than average (I was there fora wedding)
Love the staff here. All of the front desk, wait staff, bartenders, housekeeping...were all friendly and professional. The room was fantastic and well maintained. Bed comfortable. Safe, microwave and mini fridge all worked. Continental breakfast was delicious and abundant.
We went to a show at the Civic Center and parked in the parking garage. At the end of the show it took us 2 hrs to get out of the garage. When we went into the hotel to talk to someone about opening the gate to let us out, the called the GM, Maureen. She said No we are making Money on this.
My wife and I were at a wedding over the weekend. Beautiful outdoor terrace on the fourth floor. The downstairs bar was very accommodating but a bit crowded (understandable, there were two parties waiting for their rooms). The cocktail hour was great with very good food (could have had some more seating though). The bartenders were very personable. Unfortunately there was a mix up with one of the dinner entrées where a different party for our fish and we got theirs. Im only going by what I was told but I heard the fish wasnt that great. Our server was also not the most gracious (again, I know is a stressful job but looking mad at us doesnt help). The dancing was great and overall the wedding was a roaring success minus the food mistake.
Attended a wedding here today and the staff is one of the most thoughtful and attentive staff Ive interacted with at a venue. They accommodated so many requests me and other guests had, and the food/drinks were absolutely delicious. Would absolutely recommend this vanue if you are planning to do a wedding in this area
Great service and very accommodating. I was visiting for a conference at the hotel. It was a good venue for several hundred people. I had an issue with my reservation and the staff were extremely helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. They also have free parking in their garage. Overall, I was happy with my stay and Id definitely go back.
Hotel staff was nice and the rooms were also. I was ignored at the bar for a glass of water with lemon because Im pregnant. The elevator doors close very fast. It left a huge bruise on my arm. It also closed on my husband and many other guests. Beware of their elevator doors. Because I didnt report it when it happened to show them the bruise (which bruises take time to form) the only thing that could be offered was filling out an incident report. I am not happy about that.
Staff was friendly enough, however checking in was incredibly poorly managed, as you could be waiting upwards of 30+ minutes to get to your room with the huge influx of guests on a weekend. Elevators were incredibly inefficient. Closing on entering and exiting guests without a reasonably sufficient amount of time to enter or vacate. In addition, during busier times, there were lines around the lobby just to get an elevator. Several guests were told NOT to take the stairs even though it was between floors and a more preferable/easier mode compared to the elevators.
We stayed at the Grandview from 6/26/18-6/29/18. We were from Virginia & it was 6 of us. We came in for the Ogle/Lyons wedding. Everyone we came in contact with from the front desk to the breakfast buffet were wonderful . Very friendly & helpful. There is one young lady Maria Flora we all fell in love with. She was so friendly & was at our beck & call each morning at the breakfast buffet. Such a sweet kind young woman. Just thought you should know how blessed you are to have an employee of her caliber. She was amazing. Loved the Hotel. No complaints what so ever . Thanks for making our stay so nice;!
Busy hotel, seemed like there was a multitude of parties and events during my stay. No audible noise from my room. Great views of the Hudson Valley, Mid-Hudson Bridge and River. Rooms were a little dated, but overall tolerable. Staff were accomadating, hotel bar was a bit of a drag but plenty around locally to fit that job.
Hotel is clean and the staff are so friendly. Great bar and lobby and the convenience of the parking garage is nice. The only downside is that the bed is not that comfortable (Its not uncomfortable, but its just not as nice as many other hotels). All in all a good place to stay for a night when you know someone getting married around there.
We came in by train and the hotel shuttle picked us up at the train station. The hotel staff was outstanding!! Very friendly and very accommodating. We had an event at the Culinary Institute of America so we had to take the shuttle back and forth, much better than a taxi and fast service. The breakfast was a full complimentary breakfast with all the works! Great touch, Fabulous!!The room was very clean and updated and the bed was extremely comfortable. The hotel was quiet which made for a good nights sleep. We had a great experience and told the staff we will be back again next year. Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel is highly recommended and AAA rated!!thank you so much to the awesome staff for your service and a clean hotel.Your friends from Rochester,NY see you again next year!
Overall the hotel was clean, comfortable, we enjoyed the staff and had a good time. However the bar closed from a Sunday to a Monday wedding, so that Sunday night the bar closed at 10 and that to me seems a little silly especially since there was a wedding and they were not aware. Other than that we would stay again.
The hotel is nice but it wasnt a stay in but an event. I went to the Garden Bros Circus. It was money well spent. The show was exciting. Some little things need tweaking as for organization with the general admission and vendor counters but It was an evening well spent. Entertainment was on point.
Plesent and accommodating staff with a decent complimentary breakfast. They also have a shuttle able to transports wedding parties to their venue by the Hudson river. My only complaint is that its an older hotel with outdated utilities, and the cleaning could be better, as we found mold on the ice bucket lid.
The place seems dated; the decor could definitely be freshened up. The bed was kind of lacking..lots of bumps and lumps. Aside from the location, the next time I stay in the area, I will just stick to the bigger chain hotels down 9. The Grand really cant compete with the nice, new modern hotels and rates.
A nice clean hotel. I was there for a wedding weekend and I have no complaints. Clean rooms. Clean lobby. They have a nice little bar and the breakfast is appropriate (hot foods like eggs/bacon/pancakes as well as more continental). I would consider this hotel in the future.
Stayed here for a wedding this past weekend. Clean rooms. We had a beautiful view of the bridges. The ballrooms were perfect. The staff was great, especially with my 7 year old brother who kept going to the bar for more soda. The food was great too. I wish they had a pool and/or fitness area, but we went for a walk across the bridge instead. Only thing that bothered me was that our tub floor was higher than the bathroom floor and I kept misjudging the step down.
This place is overpriced. The rooms are dirty, dark and have all kinds of broken furniture. It might have been nice in the 1970s but it hasnt been updated since. The next night of a vacation we stayed at a Days Inn for 1/3 of the price that was the same (arguably better) quality.
Dont get me wrong, I like this hotel. Ive stayed in it many times over the last 10 or 15 years. Its a grand old dame that they update from time to time to keep the shine on its classical charm. But...But there are a couple of simple things I wish theyd address. For one thing, Itd be really really nice if they would put power outlets at the bedside so that I dont have to go out and get an extension cord so that I can use my cell phone or laptop in bed without draining its battery. Come on, how hard would that be.The other is a new thing theyve started doing. They have put limiters on the toilet paper dispensers. You know, like the one they used to have in grade school to keep us children from using too much... Seriously? Has this been a problem at the hotel that they have to treat us like school children? Is their toilet paper budget threatening to put them into the red? They do so much right. I dont get why they do these simple things wrong. But other than that, I like the place. Its attractive and comfortable, and the river-side rooms have a great view of the Hudson and bridges across it.
Very good staff but hotel really needs to be reminded. The area it is located is not very good and isnt inviting which may explain why it has not been updated. The entry is confusing. Upon arrival a sign indicated we should turn into a place blocked by a bus. Plus there was very little room to maneuver once the bus somehow managed to escape the space to small for a motorcycle. We parked in an area that blocked entry to the parking garage. Lots of people far less confused than were kind enough to tell me where to go and where I should put whatever I was waiting for. It was very effective because I moved out of their way. I backed on to the street and back far enough to find a turn around so that when the bus moved I could get to the entrance of the hotel. My wife got out the car went on to the hotel and get our room keys and directions. There was free parking which I was initially blocking access to. Once we were properly inside of the garage it was relatively easy to figure what to do since there were clear instructions posted within view of arriving guests us. The view from our room was very nice at night because the less than attractive area was made pretty by the dark and the lights. There was a train track uses by real trains next to a body of water I dont remember the name of. My bad. The room was clean in appearance at least. I only say appearance because one sees many news reports busting hotels for many disgusting practices. I have started to bring mattress covers and light bad spreads to protect us from the unseen deposits on beds. I also spray down all of the seating surfaces. And wipe the door handles and other hard surfaces to do my part to avoid the germs and the like left by previous guests. The house keeping staff have far too little time to properly clean rooms between guests. They run through and it is impossible to clean properly. Plus they rarely have the tools and resources to get the job done. For the most part they spread germs and such from one place to another because they use the same cloth without cleaning it between areas. If you wipe the sink on the left then wipe all of the area around it before going to the sink on the right. Do you honestly believe that cloth with very little cleaning agent to begin with is still able to clean anything else? No matter what the management says. But we generally enjoyed our stay. But unfortunately, I cannot recommend the hotel.
My girl friend had her daughters sweet 16 birthday party their in the duchess reception room. Everyone was professional and attentive . The room was beautiful and elegant. They set up the tables and, as the baker for the event provided me with a cake stand to make my cake even lovelier. They even took pictures if my dessert table and put it on pinterest. What really impress me was the wait service that came with the price of the reception rental. The food was delicious as well. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone having an event. It will be everything you want it to be.
My client stayed at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel for her wedding and I just found the staff not helping in assisting us setting up for her wedding. Keep in mind she paid for an additional area for hair and makeup. Im very big on customer service and they were lacking in this area.
I gave this place 1 star because that was the lowest I could give. The staff are rude. The rooms are dated. Our air conditioner did not work. We told 3 people who did not care at all. If you are looking for a dated hotel with rude staff and a poor night sleep this place is for you. If you are looking to overpay for a room with no air conditioning this place is for you. If not run.
I went to this hotel a couple years back for a wedding and I must say I was very impressed at that time. Now that I went there this past weekend the hotel is starting to look a bit like its not being kept up. Noticed dust in the bathroom. The suite we stayed for a wedding I was in was missing knobs on the dresser drawers, the faucet on the sink was wobbly and the outlet looked unsafe. These are just some of the things I noticed during my stay. Also I came to the bar with a drink and one of the bartenders took it when I wasnt looking and poured it out. I asked what happened to my drink they all denied touching it. One of the girls did make good on it but why lie about taking the drink.
The rooms are a bit dated. The wood paneling and the wallpaper has a vintage feel to them. The towels could be replaced and the water temperature is finicky. Overall, the help was nice at the desk but at the bar/restaurant, the staff seemed extremely irritated. Normal hotel establishment.
Beds are rocks. Pillows are solid and too tall. Very expensive for minimal accommodations. Staff for events is very disorganized. Emergency exit stairwells are locked when trying to exit bottom floor. Overall experience is not nearly worth the expense. Clean but would not stay again.
Everything was a positive. We trained up from the City. The Hotel picked us up at the train station. Our room was beautiful and all accommodations were excellent. We were presented with two free cocktails. We stayed for dinner and had a really wonderful meal. The bartender who also waited on us was personable, friendly and did a great job. He was equally friendly wishing us good travels the next noon as we checked out. Nice cucumber soap, brand new flat tv, nice view. Very happy and satisfied and at a great price. Highly reccomended.
The room was clean and had a refrigerator and microwave. The restaurant in the hotel is severely lacking. Very few menu items. Next to no meatless options. Will not modify dishes. I wound up having to eat bland caesar salad for every meal there because I couldnt even purchase a side order of fries without a burger or sandwich. My boyfriend did enjoy their calamari.
FOOD IS TERRIBLE DONT HAVE YOUR PARTY SMAE DAY A BIG PARTY !!sweet 16 last weekend my guest were very displeased with the food the rice was hard , burgers cold and uncooked, all my guest did NOT rec appetizers hat we paid for all!!!!they also served sea food without our permission due to another party had a lot of food left over they gave it to us?one o my guest had an allergic reaction and they blamed us that we did not tell them about food allergies?thats why we did not order any seafood and that was told to them no seafood or peanuts due to my sunhats allergies and several guest.I was told too bad too sad No refunds are ever given for their mistakes and poorly prepared food.this venue may NOT be the place for your next wedding, sweet 16 or birthday celebration.the rooms are over priced there is nothing special about these rooms.
Very nice hotel in every way possible. The only picky-picky item ( but very noticeable) was the multiple-ripped lampshade on the lamp on the common end table between the beds. Its a minor point, but how could the cleaning and maintenance staff NOT notice it? Easy to replace to make it a perfect room.
It was an amazing stay and experience. The rooms were great the staff was great. Unfortunately, there happened to be a blackout in the middle of the night for 4 hours. They did however accommodate us with every need we could have possibly wanted since we were there for a funeral. I would still recommend this place to anyone.
I have attended several banquets and celebrations at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel. It is located in the heart of west Poughkeepsie, close to the Mid-hudson Civic Center, Hudson River, and the Walkway Over the Hudson. I have had a positive experience with every event. The banquet rooms and lobby have a luxurious atmosphere. The staff is friendly, helpful, and attentive to every detail of the guests. I didnt stay in a room or eat the food, but I would expect it would also be very good.
Super friendly staff at the front desk. Small problem with AC which was handled very quickly and well.... but WOW is this place in need of a spucing up. Bit smelly and dingey. Carpets are extremely tired and stained. Overall it works if you have to stay there for a function.
Nice enough hotel. Rooms are a good size and the view from ours was pretty. We also had a fridge which is always convenient. They lose a star for their outdated heaters however. Even in cold snowy weather the heater on the low setting made the room unbearably hot. We had to settle for uncomfortably cold.
The hospitality was wierd. After the ceremony (which was nice) we were guided into a locked fire exit staircase for 10 15 minutes by staff just wait in a crowded lobby for over a half hour until the cocktail started. The cocktail hour was awesome. The reception was meh. The service was good but the timing and the service was pretty bad. I wouldnt want my wedding there.
Here for a conference as a vendor. They have a great setup where people can come up and say hi while they grab coffee or bagels. There is easy access to power outlets, quiet music, and lighting that doesnt blind you. Works very well as a conference venue. Cant speak to the room accommodations as I am not staying.
A few weeks ago I left a VM regarding my June 8th wedding and some issues I had. the wedding coordinator who worked with me called me back. I returned her call on June 15th to discuss my issues.I reported to her my major issue was the start of the reception. Although it is not the venues fault I arrived late due to events beyond my control I did arrive at 630. I take full responsibility for missing my scheduled cocktail hour but was relieved to get there at 630 when the reception was due to start. I assumed I would of immediately be taken to the ball room to view it before guests would go in, but to my surprise this did not happen. I was told they were finishing things and I waited. As it approached 7pm I became more anxious about what was taking so long and requested the wedding coordinator. After a few moments of staff trying to locate her she came and showed us the room. The photographer time stamp shows firsts guests began to enter the reception room at 659. I should mention I told this to the wedding coordinator who proceeded to argue with me and tell me I was wrong all the guests were in the reception room by 7pm.The photographer then shows the timestamp the introduction to the bridal party began at 719pm. This is more than a half hour of the projected start time of intros / reception. Once we entered and completed the first dance it was 730. Now we are an hour after things should of started .I understand things may not go as planned or to the minute of what we expected and if it was only a 10 minute delay I would not complain, but we are talking 30mins!Now, when I presented this to the coordinator she argued saying we didnt arrive until 640 which is not true. Photographer time stamp shows last pic was taken at 618 and we left promptly after which would put us at the hotel around 630 which is what I stated.Due to the extended delay of my reception I felt I had no choice but to extend the reception. The cake was not brought out until 950pm and was not served until after 10 . In fact I had complaints of guests having to ask for cake they never received. Also my mother had to request the dessert table which was not brought out until after 1015pm. Many of my guests left without seeing or eating from the dessert table because of this and Im still confused as to why the dessert table was brought out so late. Due to all of these things and having to extend my reception so I would be able to complete a bouquet toss, garter dance and couples shoe game I had to also pay and extend my photographer and dj an hour.I would like to mention the wedding coordinator and I spoke about extending the reception an hour the day before but once we were told the exact amount we didnt find it worth the money, so having to extend it was not a part of my plan.I am upset with the lack of response towards my complaint and the hotels failed ability to take any type of accountability. At the least ceremony and venue were beautifully decorated and food was good.
We were there for a wedding, there was a trolley from the wedding to the hotel which was so covienient and they even let us check in late because we had no time before the wedding. The room was huge and the bed was great, a little hard though. If I had one complaint it would be the ac did not work very well in our room
My partner and I visited the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel to meet with their group sales representative. We have an upcoming wedding and wanted to book a block of rooms. We were brought to each type of room that would be included in the block of rooms, including the free honeymoon suite that would be included if 10 rooms are booked. The rooms were very spacious and extremely clean! I loved the experience and customer service provided! We were helped by Kisha Jones! She was such a pleasant and warm person which made the experience more enjoyable! I know our wedding guests will be pleased!
Convenient, easy to navigate. The employees at the front desk were especially friendly and accommodating (also patient) accommodations were a bit dated although it absolutely added to the charm all while looking over the span which is the city of Poughkeepsie. The hotel bar had a fun, local vibe with super reasonable beverage fares. Dont forget the parking garage!
Friendly staff, typical Corporate hotel. Clean rooms lots of hot water lots of street noise even after we asked for quiet room Do not sleep on bus line side as you can hear them idling across the street all night breakfast is inflexible and silly you have to order off a limited fixed menu and you can change noting only delete items
If you’re on the search for a venue in this area, we highly recommend taking a look at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel. We had been to several venues and never had that “this is the place” moment until we visited the Grand hotel. We may be a little biased because it was our wedding, but this was the best wedding we have ever been to! We had plenty of guests making similar remarks though which has made our claim feel validated. Many guests specifically complimented the speed of service, the ballroom and decorations, as well as the food and quality of service. We booked the Regency Package, which gives you the larger ballroom (you need at least 100 guests but we were able to book it a few short of 100.)For the price you’re paying, you get an incredible ballroom and also the catering is included. We still can’t figure out why the cost is lower than other venues in the area that don’t offer catering. Perhaps it’s due to the fact that they’re able to host so many weddings on the same night? The amount you get for the price is amazing.-The food is incredible-The maître’ de and the head server make sure everything is going smoothly. You will always have a drink, a taste of any food you’d like, and will not have to keep track of the events and timing since they do it for you.-The ballroom itself was beautiful. The option to choose any color uplighting for no additional cost was a huge plus.-The process of preparing for the wedding was made simple. We worked with Gina, who was always available to answer our questions and gave us a detailed timeline of everything we would need to do far in advance so we were never feeling stressed. If you’re searching for a venue, we highly recommend setting up a meeting with the Poughkeepsie Grand to see if it’s a match for you.
I was there for a wedding. Could have gotten the room online for $169 at several sites., however because the room was reserved as a block under the brides name, we were charged $42 per night more.Elevators in this hotel are the worst Ive ever seen anywhere! Youre waiting to go up, waiting to go down, youre waiting to get to your car in the parking garage. Absolutely ridiculous.
Conference and event area is large, elegant, well laid out and comfortable. A bit dated, but that may be a benefit. Adequate, but limited parking, free. Excellent catering staff, menu and variety, both drinks and hors doeuvres, and dinner (made to order). Large dance floor, good acoustics.
I attended a social function at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel. The food was excellent and the staff was courteous a always. The staff was very contentious when a large glass object broke in the hallway. They were there immediately to clean it up and took care to warn the patrons of the hazard.
I attended a fairly large reunion at the Poughkeepsie Grand, after which my friends and I spent the night at the hotel. The food and drinks were delicious, and our room was comfortable and quiet; the hotel staff at the event, in particular the bartenders and waitstaff/table attendants, were especially friendly and accommodating.
The Piughkeepsie Grand was.a decent hotel but nothing to brag about. For 209 dollars a night (weekend rate), I expected more for my money. Rooms were ok and it seemed only half the TV channels worked. There was no fan in our bathroom so steam filled the room wheneve I took a hot shower. I will say though the bar was nice and the employees were very kind. I would of given it more stars but the price just bothered me given the location and type of room.
We were at a wedding. The food and ambiance were great. Unfortunately, we had the worst server we have ever had, Marissa. She was rude, wouldnt bring us water, never served coffee, threw cake at my friend, and looked me in the eye and walked away without offering me cake. It was unbelievable.
There is no way this place should be rated higher that 3 stars. The rooms are “dated” meaning they smell like cedar and mothballs, the beds are rock hard, the towels are scratchy and the light bulbs are all over 75 watts incandescent which mean settling in for the night involves hanging your clothes over the lamps. The food i guess would be considered mediocre if it was 1996. I would like to elaborate on the experience but I don’t feel like I should wast more of anyone’s time.
We stayed at this hotel because our daughter goes to Marist College....we were greeted by a lovely man named TJ. He was the Assistant Front Office Manager!! The room rate was $269 for the night which seemed VERY high with NO Marist family rate....but we decided to stay anyway. We stayed in room 923. I don’t think housekeeping knows what a vacuum is or uses any cleaning supplies. The bathroom had scuff marks, dirt and blood on the walls and doorframe. The towels were yellowish. The doorknobs were slimy. The room felt dirty and not fresh. The room needs a facelift and could use a good cleaning, shampooing of carpets and/or have maintence paint and replace carpets. The housekeeper banged on our door at 9:26am saying “housekeeping” waking us up, and we had the “do not disturb” sign hanging on our outside door!!! UGH!!! It is a shame because the hotel looks beautiful, but when you look closely it is very weathered.
I was here overnight as a wedding attendee. I myself along with a few others were in the bridal party. The rooms were a little too outdated for my liking, and there was someone engaging in a little recreational smoking (not of the tobacco variety)on my floor. We did have dinner at their bar and grill which was very good. The only real issue I had was that just before myself and the bride to be got stuck on the 6th floor due to a fire alarm being pulled and had to carry oursleves, luggage, and gifts down six flights of stairs. I understand that the hotel couldnt have for seen that happening but it was kind of an inconvenience.
I stayed here because I attended an event here. Event was ok. Room was ok. Felt that room was dark even though there were multiple lights on. Toiletries were eh. Large tv but standard channel selection. Breakfast was included in room price and mediocre. View was only decent part of stay.
I have been to several events at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel. Everytime I go there the staff is always very professional and extremely attentive. Every event I have been to there has run very smoothly. All of the staff is there to help you with anything you may need from the busboy to the management ... ask and you shall receive. Really a great place for any type of event.
Clean Pretty Shiny bathrooms...Exceptional overnight front desk service and security guard. TJ was Very Welcoming and Hospitable. Very Dog friendly accommodations, A+. Highly Recommend!!! The Maitre D also whipped me up a quick Breakfast plate when it was passed the hour. Customer Service goes Above and Beyond..
Everything was beautiful, food and drinks were excellent and so was the service. The bathroom was the only weird thing the stalls were so tiny you had to stand against the wall to be able to squeeze the door open and Im a thin person so I cant imagine how others got out lol. Other than that it everything was wonderful.
The Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel definitely deserves 5 stars. As a professional photographer, Ive photographed weddings and events at many venues throughout the Hudson Valley. The Grand is one of our recommended vendors, due the there exceptional service, their eye for detail, and outstanding facilities, not to mention how convenient it is with the hotel at the same location. Youve got to check it out.
Nice place but there were a lot of weddings! In fact an individual got sick in the elevator, and two others proceeded to physically fight and throw obscenities around in the 1st floor foyer. The fire alarm went off at 3am, and that was fun too. Expensive given the above.
My husband and I held our wedding reception at The Grandview and was recommended to The Grand Hotel for our guest accommodations. That is where we fell in love with Kisha, the Group Sales Manager. In our opinion, she’s makes The Grand Hotel what it is! She was sweet, accommodating, helpful and always in a fantastic mood! She showed us all of our room options, was constantly assisting me with my forever growing room block and even offered us complimentary shuttle rides for our guests for our rehearsal dinner at Cosimos. We couldn’t have had a better experience and would absolutely recommend The Grand Hotel to anyone visiting the Poughkeepsie area!
SO offended by the manager. Our group had a wedding block rented at this hotel for the weekend of 9/30/17. Many of us checked in on Friday and stayed until Sunday. We brought a large amount of business to the hotel not just as guests, but as patrons of the lobby bar. On Saturday night after the wedding, our group returned to the hotel for the after party (as arranged). We were all buying tons of drinks and intended to continue to do so. The mother of groom had bought one tray of little sandwiches and one tray of cookies for her sons guests. The manager came and raided the area making a loud and angry announcement and he even got security guards involved. MULTIPLE people offered to pay the hotel a fee to compensate for the presence of the cookies (the hotel doesnt offer them on their menus) but the manager insisted they be removed. He complained and argued IN FRONT OF THE BRIDE and made the whole party feel completely unwelcome. His attitude was curt and harsh, even to the father of the groom who had paid substantial fees to the hotel for various services. Some people tried to order hotel food (ie chicken fingers) during this whole debacle and their orders were delayed and burnt. SO DISAPPOINTING. The bar tenders were nice enough, but THE MANAGER AT THIS VENUE MAKES THE ENTIRE OUTFIT A POOR CHOICE FOR COUPLES SEEKING A HOTEL FOR LARGE GROUPS. Rest assured, there were several other issues reported by guests during the weekend, including a moldy tomato on a food order, a couch pillow with bodily fluid stains on it in the bridal suite, poor ventilation in the bathrooms, etc. Think twice before booking this hotel.
Beds sqeak and are terribly uncomfortable, no places to plug things in unless you move the mattress. Blood on the comforters also wasnt the best way to start my rest. Way way way over priced. Worst hotel i ever stayed at. Oh btw bartender ignores you as well. I hate that i have to sleep here tonight. If only the motel 8 wasnt full.Update.Bathroom flooded from peeing... no more rooms available and its 3 am. FmlAnother update...I woke up and it was 74 degrees when i have it set at 68. I also saw that itll take a week for the incidental money to go back in my account. Thats 75 dollarsRude staff as well.
I have been to a lot of weddings and this was the most excellent wedding that Ive ever been to reception it was gorgeous very outstanding I recommend anyone to have it there so glad they had it there and was able to come and was included in the wedding and your house were the most people very very helpful and very polite thats one thing that I have a pee when I go any place as long as they treat the customers good and it was excellent treatment
I was attending a meet and greet with professionals from Westchester Hospital for a program that Hudson River Housing, an agency I am is apart of. It also was a luncheon where the food was very good. The event went over the program, ECHO program, which helps other professional assist their clients in obtaining services to benefit their lives and better themselves with whatever ailments they may have. It was very beneficial and informative.

2022-07-04First off the location got three stars because of the area. The hotel is fairly close to Amtrak and Metro-North Poughkeepsie station, and the walkway over the Hudson. The hotel itself was beautiful, service was wonderful, breakfast was lovely. Rooms were nice and cool air conditioner worked great. The entire staff was friendly and helpful greeted with a smile always. The lobby also has a very nice bar good atmosphere Good drinks.

2022-05-03Although aesthetically pleasing it lacks basic amenities. One bar of soap for a shower and sink; remote did not work for TV, thermostat was not working, no maintenance on shift to fix was told there is an extra blanket; hotel bar was not open at all. The front desk people tried to do the best they can but given the lack of a maintenance person and bar staff they could only do so much.

2022-07-01Upon entry I was blown away, very nice lobby and bar. Super friendly guest services as well. Buuut...the rooms were just so-so. While there was nothing wrong with the room we had it just wasnt great could use a lot of work updating the old style furniture (beds included-a bit stiff), wallpaper that will soon be peeling off the walls, and updated lighting would be great starts. But there was free parking in the garage attached so that is a great perk. Plenty of great food and bar options in the area as well. All in all, its not a bad place to stay.

2022-03-22I happened to drive into Poughkeepsie NY to meet some family and friends. Unfortunately I was there too early. So I’ve booked a night at the grand hotel through a third party app. As I walked in I was greeted by a great staff but unfortunately they couldn’t locate my reservation. I’ve waited for a couple hours for the manager Tanya and the morning shift staff come and helped me. They were very quick and professional. Tanya was able to locate my reservation and get me into a room! But Then again I didn’t have my card on file with the third party! Luckily I tried to get in contact with my family one last time and it was a success! Tanya was able to cancel my reservation at no extra cost through the third party app (thank god) and I was able to wait till my family came and picked me up!Hotel atmosphere is very clean and classy. Staff is always on the go and concerned for their guests and future guests. Security as well! If I would have stayed at the grand hotel I’m sure I would’ve loved it! Thank you Grand Hotel, Tanya, and staff! S++++++++

2022-05-06The hotel was great and all staff members we’re friendly but there is no pool and no kitchen in the hotel room. The toilet takes long to flush and one of the lamps is broken plus the floor is like concrete. Also the bed is okay. The breakfast is good but where are the eggs? Not really recommend.

2022-07-09Upon trying to check in, the over night front desk personnel claimed he did not have access to our reservation via the hotel system. I showed him our confirmation on my phone in the reservation app as well as my email confirmation. He refused to check us in with my valid confirmation numbers and instead tried to convince us that our only option was to re-book directly through him/ the hotel, re-pay for the room, and hope that the hotel would refund us the next day for the double charge without any sort of confirmation that we wound be refunded for the double charge. When I requested that he give something in writing that he could not find the reservation in the hotel system with the confirmation numbers provided so that I could ensure I would be able to receive a refund from the booking party, he refused. Frankly, his behavior was unprofessional, rude, and reeked of foul-play. His behavior very much seems like this hotel is trying to make up costs in sketchy and unprofessional ways. I highly do not recommend trying to stay with this hotel. What could have been a fun end to our night resulted in unreasonable stress.

2022-04-24Toilet got clogged and the front desk not only wouldn’t send someone to address it, but also wouldn’t bring a plunger up to help correct the situation. I’m now left to deal with it on my own provided the front desk gets around to locating a plunger.Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere that treats you like a valued guest. This isn’t that place.

2022-06-27Great location, friendly staff, meals included at a terrific price.During these times I appreciate the difficulties all businesses are experiencing. Rooms werent refreshed with toiletries or towels - it appeared they were limited with staff.
