As a white person, I have experienced nothing but kindness and respect. The Dim Sum is better than most of what you will find in Chinatown. No, its not fancy, nor is the wine list long. But if youre here for the wine selection, you are doing it wrong. If you are looking for a hipster fusion restaurant with mood lighting and heated toilet seats, this might not be for you. But if you want very good food at reasonable prices, dont pass it up.
I got take out and the food was excellent so authentic and delicious! First time I ever had such great Chinese food outside of China town. If you like real Chinese food do visit this great restaurant. I will be frequenting this great place! I wish they had an outside area!
I was very disappointed in our takeout order. I wanted a small fried rice and the woman who took the order gave us a large house special that was 19.95 and it was horrible. The deep fried spare ribs were fat and bones. Lastly there was an animal hair in our dim sum. I will never go back to this place . $130 and it was not worth one dime.
We spent $130 for 4 people and it was the worst take out we’ve ever had. $20 for fried rice was insanely expensive and it was awful. My brother said it tasted like dog food. We got this friend pork dish and it was literally fried fat and bones. The dumplings were ok and the orange beef was good but it was a lot of money for what we got.
Went there dinner tonight with family to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival and it was packed with people. We ordered a lot of food for eight of us and food was great. The downside was waiting over 30 minutes after they served us soup. We understood the restaurant was packed and they should have hired more people to work for the special day.
2018.04 jumbo oyster....golden shrimp2018.04 dim sum improving... Very hk feel2017 4th visit cashier suck. She enter wrong order and doesnt want to admit it. Big minus3rd visit .. dinner ... for sure MSG in food thirsty2nd try... dinner... not bad .. nice delicious food Chinese style .. my son eat non stop ... pick your fav dish ... dont follow other .. u will be surprise .. dont feel thirsty this timeNice service, dim sum not bad ....but seems to hv lot of msg....thirst afterwards
I would say this is the best dimsum restaurant on the island. It has two floors. So many dim sum selections. After dim sum we always order kitchen dishes like noodles, rice or entree. A lot of Asian know about this place and even people from Brooklyn come to this restaurant too. Lunch time is getting pack and sometime we have to wait few mins for a table and definitely worth the wait. Price is reasonable slight expensive than in the city. Staffs are friendly.Only downside is the parking issue. 80% of the time out of luck and have to park on a residential area.
Dont bother coming here if youre white. The 2 ofus came in with 6 empty tables of 6 in therestaurant. The host told that its a 20 minute wait.Fair. Not 2 minutes later comes in 2 Asian peoplethat sit down immediately at one of the emptytables. When i asked how come theyre not waitingand we are the guy says for a reason. I said whats the reason, he said they have a reservation. Mind you, their phone doesnt work to make areservation. I said ok you have 5 empty tables Immaking my reservation now. He said no you wait 20mins. We turned around and left. The racism isnauseating.
Service could be better, if youre not being taken care of by the manager of the joint, making a selection could be rough. Otherwise, greater spot for a family meal. Dim sum is fresh. Prices are very reasonable. Parking lot is crowded, especially on weekends. Place is clean, food is great. Fun times. But recommend you research the menu in advance.
Service was good and attentive. Restrooms were clean and spacious. Some of the dim sum plates were unfortunately cold. Stick with the stuff in the heated carts. The piggy faced buns are sweet custard filled instead of being pork filled. We liked the soy sauce egg chow mein from the kitchen. Not the best dim sum in New York, but perhaps the best in Staten Island.
Very authentic. Wait staff was very accommodating considering we couldnt communicate. I only speak English and they barely speak English, but that didnt stop us from eating :). My palate is very uneducated so wasnt my type of food. But definitely worth the try if this is your style!
Horrible customer service and below average dim sum. I go to this place every other month only because its nearby and I dont want to drive to Brooklyn for much better dim sum. The parking lot is so small and always hard to park any car. Today a SUV blocked my car and I asked the cashier to help me to identify the cars owner. After waiting for over ten minutes he didnt do nothing. I finally asked two other workers to help me. Turned out its the restaurant owners car. Who can be so ignorant and selfish to block a customes car? He has no respect towards others. The server didnt even apologize instead he was like this is the owners car. He can park wherever he wants. Unbelievable! Do not go there! I am informing all my friends and family not to do any business with Previous Island Tea Shop.
Generic dimsum coupled with glacial service is the deal breaker here. The prices also made me frown. On the flip side, the workers seemed optimistic and happy compared to the customers staring blankly into their food. Extracting maximum cheddar from the few patrons willing to eat there is a losing gamble imo. Ive heard the dinner is much better so Ill definitely try it albeit not any time soon
This restaurant is the authentic traditional Dim Sum place this island desperately needed. Most importantly the food is delicious and very very reasonably priced. This place does the traditional containers of food brought out by cart and you take what you want on the spot. No traditional ordering and waiting for your food required. half the fun is finding out and trying the new things that are offered. I loved their pork buns both baked and steamed. Truthfully, you really cant go wrongwith what you order. Make sure you dont miss out on the salted egg yolk buns for dessert. They were great. Just a heads up, The parking lot is almost impossible to find a spot in so if you see a street spot do yourself a favor and take it. Whether you take the street spot or gamble for a lot spot, make sure to get yourself over here and try this place out for yourself
Best Chinese dim sum in Staten Island. Dim sum is always very fresh in the morning and I never get disappointed. I’ve been there for dinner couple of times. Reasonable price and authentic Cantonese style taste. I will recommend this place. They have a small parking lot and weekend after 11am usually get full quickly.
Its not good at all, except for the hot tea itself. This dim sum place is not like the ones in Brooklyn or Chinatown Manhattan where staffs push a small cart of food around the restaurant. In this tea shop, a staff gives you a menu and you mark the dishes you want to order on the menu. The food is way too oily and soft. The chicken fingers I love is so oily and cooked too soft. The dumplings are okay, large fillings of scallions and shrimp. The one thing I really regret in ordering is Beef Tripe. It tasted so bad! Like Im literally eating oil. The staffs are okay but doesnt speak much English. The restaurant itself is clean and neat.
Terrible customer service and the front desk guy kept on ignoring me when I asked him 3 times about my dinner order. Ordered 5 dishes at noon and waited for more than 1 hour then one of the waiter told me only 3 dishes were made and asked me if I want to wait another 1/2 to 1 hour for the other 2 dishes. Also the food quality was just so so & don’t know why this restaurant overcharged during the Lunar New Year. Do not order at this restaurant especially during holidays.
Love this place. Moved to Staten Island and was waiting for an AUTHENTIC Chinese restaurant to open and this is the place. Don’t have to go to Chinatown or brooklyn anymore for that. Waiters are super nice and there’s parking there. Waiters go above and beyond; they actually know what customer service is. They have a tank by the rear door with fresh fish, lobster and sometimes king crabs. The food there is A1 whether it’s dim sum or dinner there. I probably go there every other week to be honest. Definitely try this place out without a doubt!
The best chinese food I have had on the island. The ingredients are fresh the seasoning is excellent. I gave is 4 stars for the price. Its a little on the pricey side. They have Dim Sum available all day long, made to order. They dont serve alcohol as of now. I dont know if they plan to serve alcohol in the future. Theres a parking area that fits about 10 cars, parking is always hard to find during the weekend morning hours. Well worth a try...
When I moved to Staten Island 3 years ago, my biggest nostalgia for Brooklyn was all those dim sum places close to where I lived. Not any more. Ever since Precious Island opened at New Dorp, it’s become my go-to place for brunch & dinner. Didn’t imagine such an authentic, decent Cantonese/HK style restaurant could be possible on Staten Island 3 years ago. I noticed the food quality went down a notch days ago though. Hope they keep up with the freshness and tastiness.
Ordered lunch for the office from here yesterday 2/21/2020... did not turn out to be a good experience!1) Pork chow fun had a very ashy char taste throughout the whole dish, tasted like charcoal. Could not eat more than one fork-ful.2) Sesame Chicken had absolutely zero flavor, a few pieces of the chicken were overcooked and tasted like rubber.3) The hot and sour soup tasted very bitter and had a vinegar-ish quality to it.4) The rice was under cooked and still hard in the center, very hard to mess up cooking rice especially with rice cookers being very affordable!5) The smell of the vegetables was atrocious, smelled sort of rotten. We ended up throwing the whole meal out and ordering from a different place. I cannot speak about the Tea at this place or the atmosphere, but the food is definitely a no-go. New chef is needed drastically!
Just came here. Wow. Its a really good place. Authentic Cantonese dim sum right here in the island. I no longer have to drive to 8th Avenue just for dim sum anymore. Everything is freshly made and delicious. Chef is true Cantonese and makes true Cantonese style dim sum flavors. Prices are good too. I hope this place stays open for a long long time. I know I will be frequenting this place from now on.
This place just opened and its very cute. The staff was very accomodating, and the food was delicious. When I was done with my food, they gave my table complimentary watermelon slices and fortune cookies. Disclaimer: This restaurant isnt much of a tea shop. They served tea, which was amazing, but it was the only type of tea they had. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Asian cuisine.
Just discovered this place last week and decided to try it today. We normally would go to another place for dim sum but it was a bit too expensive, this place was at least 20% cheaper and the food was just as good. It was the typical dim sum service but the staff was friendly. We really enjoyed our meal! I recommend checking this place out.
One of the few dim sum spots on Staten Island. Not as good as other dim sum restaurants outside of Staten Island. Prices are quite reasonable and the food is made fresh. All staff are very attentive and will refill your tea pot and give you new plates throughout your meal. Parking lot is small and pot holes everywhere towards the back.
Especially enjoy this Dim Sum place because they are walking distance from my home and because they have comparable quality and taste to other popular places in Brooklyn and Chinatown. They are generally clean and staff is efficient. Usually crowded on the weekends but weekdays are very chilled. Prices are a little more expensive but can be overlooked by its quality and convenient location.
Went there one afternoon with my parents, the place is not bad, prices for Dimsum are reasonable, food is not bad either. However, the ventilation of the place needs some serious work. When I first walked in, instead of the wonderful smell of food, my nose picked up the unpleasant smell of stinky sewer or dirty restroom. To make matter worse I was place at the table near the kitchen and the smell was almost intolerable through out my meal. I am sure the other patrons picked up as well. I sincerely hope that this problem will be fixed in the future, besides the smell, my family and I did have a pleasant experience.
Im so happy they finally opened a decent dimsum place in Staten Island! The food is just as good as the food in brooklyn. The service is wonderful, better than Brooklyn. I havent gone back to dimsum in Brooklyn or Manhattan since Ive visited this restaurant. Keep up the good work! Here are some of my staple dishes that I rate dimsum places by:10/10 Beef meatballs (Ngao yuk yuen) - little to no chestnuts. If you ask for more Worcestershire theyll give it to you, no attitude!10/10 Shrimp Noodle Rolls - standard taste, you wont miss brooklyn7.5/10 Chinese Donut Noodle Rolls (Dja Leung) - i think this is one of the harder dishes to get right, usually hit or miss because the fried noodle inside can be hard but they have your order it so they make it fresh10/10 Beef Noodle Rolls - no chestnuts!9/10 Glutinous Rice Dumplings (Hom Sui Gok) - not enough dough inside but plenty of filling6/10 Pan Fried Chives (Gow Choi Gao)- only available as dumpling shaped, not ball shaped.10/10 Shrimp Dumplings (Har Gow) - nice big shrimp, flavorful9/10 Osmanthus jelly - cool, sweet and refreshing!8/10 Sesame Roll - slightly not enough sesame flavor, too thin5/10 Mango tofu fish shaped dessert - smooth sweet, better if it was served cold
Precious Island steps away from the typical American Chinese fast food fare to offer more traditional style Chinese food. Given that the Chinese population on Staten Island is one of the fastest growing, it is not a surprise to see this spring up, but it certainly adds to the diversity of Staten Islands offerings.Dim sum is what many people come for. Even with two levels of seating, this restaurant can get busy on the weekends if you do not arrive before 11 am for dim sum. Waiting can depend on the size of your party and whether you are willing to have a communal table experience. There is a good variety of dim sum on offer, all pushed out on carts as is customary. The food quality is good, and the volume of people they serve keeps the items hot and fresh. The cost of a typical meal is definitely in the affordable range, and you can be well satiated for the price compared to other restaurants. The roast pork buns (char siu bao), roasted pork pastries (char siu so), shiu mai, and egg tarts are all good ones to try. Salt water dumplings (pork inside a deep fried glutinous rice dough), fried taro dumplings (wu kok), rice noodle rolls (cheung fun with beef or shrimp) and the porridge are all good as well. While dim sum at Precious Island is a main attraction, night time dining offers more traditional plates to be shared among family and friends. Fresh lobster, fish and crab are all in publicly accessible tanks in the back side of the restaurant, ready to be made fresh per the diners desires. Lamb chops, fried rice, e-noodles, and steamed fish are all good. While the menu here is a little smaller than some other larger Chinese banquet halls there is still quite a number of things to pick from. If you have your heart set on dim sum, you can get it at night as well, though sometimes the dim sum orders stop towards the end of the night. The staff are all quite used to serving non-Asians and are accommodating. They accept credit cards. The only difficulty here is the parking lot is rather small, but on street parking can often be had on New Dorp Lane.
Food is not too bad. They have some dim sum dishes that are hard to find in Brooklyn. But they also lack some. Service is pretty difficult to get if you are on a table along the wall. They dont really see you and would need to call them over. Parking lot has a lot of turnover so I would wait around if you cant find anything.
This place is solid for dim sum on Staten island, less of a wait then most Brook places on a weekend but be warned dont gonthere too late for dim sum if youre looking for the cart experience because youll get the leftover stuff. However you can always a la cart and order off the menu for fresher stuff.
Anyone who has ever enjoyed Chinese food but hasnt gone out to eat dim sum is missing out. Its one of the first things I recommend. This is one of the first dim sum places on staten island that Ive gone to and theyve done an amazing job. For anyone who doesnt speak Chinese, they are always great English speakers with an easy to decipher English menu.
Very traditional Chinese. Lunch menu, dinner menu, and full dim sum menu available. Food may have msg, but is not greasy. They have cases of live sea food in the back. I have seen people order a crab dish and the staff would bring out the crab to present to the customer for approval. The toasted roast pork buns are AMAZING!All options for duck are great, lots of meat.General Tsos chicken is large white meat pieces.NOT LIKE REGULAR AMERICAN CHINESE RESTAURANTS. Portions are large and served family style, especially for dinner.
Really good dimsum. I was pretty skeptical coming from Flushing but the quality was actually better (like big pieces of shrimp in the har gow) - most likely because prices are also slightly higher. Some pretty interesting items Ive never seen before like the black golden bun. For a group of six our bill came out to $90 with tip included. The bathrooms here are cleaner than any other dim sum place Ive been to lol. Would come back :)
Ordered a take out from this place; dim sum was good (not extraordinary). Peking duck was absolutely disgusting -- it was presented as a box of chopped bones with meat and skin on them (mostly bones). Threw out most of it as it was repulsive to look at. Probably an authentic place but this is not Flushing, they need to adjust to the area to succeed.
One thing I don’t like this restaurant is that the waiters would change your dishes from small portion to large portion without telling you and you won’t realize until you have your check and find out you get charged more. They justify it by saying that “small portion was not enough for all you people so I just changed it to large portion”I mean what kind of restaurant would do that? Why would I need you to make the decision? It’s just like robbery...
To go dim sum place in staten island. My all time favorite is the mango pudding and egg tarts. The mango pudding is incredibly well detail and shaped as a fish. Instagramable! The egg tart are best eaten warm and hot!The egg custard part isnt too sweet while the bread part isnt too flakey. You can also see the layers.Servers are nice and kind.
The manager is incredibly rude. My mother and I went a couple of times and it was okay at first. My mother and I do not speak Chinese. The service was already bad because of that but we decided to give it another chance. When we made an honest mistake on the menu, the manager continued to berade my mother and how rude we were and next time not to do that. My mother said ok because the lady at the register said it was. But he kept repeating himself 4-5 six times until I interrupted. Then he repeated it again and again. Treating us like we were idiots because we werent saying yes in Chinese or whatever his problem was. Will definitely not come again.Discrimination because of our language background should not be tolerated. We concieve to our mistake but to be treated like he did should not occur again. I urge those who do not speak Chinese to stay away from this restaurant.
I previously posted that the first time I went there they tried to pad the bill and charge for a entree that we did not have, but I gotta say the wait staff is super friendly fast and courteous. Its actually the best Chinese food that I have ever ate period and Ive been to Chinese restaurants all over the world.
I just ordered from this place! I got the wrong food and the lady asked me to take a picture of what I received. She insisted that I received the correct food! After several minutes of back and forth I finally got my point across! Bad customer service! I will give this place zero star

2021-11-06One of the best options for dim sum on Staten Island! There is on site parking and they have a great selection of dim sum! The restaurant is located on the first floor and is wheelchair friendly. They are checking vaccine cards at the door. They also do take out and delivery. Would totally come back again!

2021-11-27Came for dim sum brunch. Food is good and the lovely atmosphere is great. It was busy and pretty packed when we got there at Sat 10:50AM. Service was fast and they constantly cleared our dirty plates without needing to be prompted. The only downside is very limited parking, but that isnt something the business has control over.I would recommend this place for dim sum!

2021-08-28This is the only place you will get AUTHENTIC Chinese food in the island without having to travel to manhattan or brooklyn. Been coming here since they opened and the food is still great. You’ll get a lot of family vibes if you come here. Ordered here a lot during the pandemic and the food was good but eating it fresh in the restaurant is a whole other experience. Definitely recommend this place without a doubt. 10/10.

2022-02-18Brought my group here to celebrate my mother’s birthday, who specifically wanted dim sum. Regret this decision. Here’s a summary:Arrived to an incredibly warm restaurant, extremely bright lights, no background music, decor etc. unwelcoming.Given menus without dim sum. When asked for dim sum, the waiter shrugged. I ordered several apps for our group of 8. Then after ordering, was given the dim sum menu. Nothing explained, waiter actually seemed irritated. Now, I realize dim sum service can often be weekends only. But I called and asked before reserving and was told dim sum all the time.No wine list. The waiter pointed to 2 bottles on a shelf. Kind of odd because pricing per glass didn’t jive w bottle pricing. Felt like he just winged it. Even tho pricier, opted for bottle to simplify.WATER is not provided. When asked for tap water the denied us water. They only offer Costco small bottles of water at 1.5$ ea. This is unacceptable on several levels. Some ppl, like us, don’t purchase plastic bottles of water. NYC tap is fine and eco friendly. Also, for a group of 8 ppl, let’s say, everyone has 2 bottles of water … 24$ in water? So they’re either padding sales by not giving water to diners or their tap water isn’t potable. Either way, not good and I hope they remedy this. The food was fine. Not good, it bad. Staff plopped our food down without any explanation of what we were served. Sauces? We had to request and then request again what the intended use was for them. The staff was not hospitable. We frequent many dim sum restaurants. Our lackluster experience isn’t from a cultural miscommunication. The restaurant felt like we were their first customers, or we were being punked.Couldn’t recommend it less. I’m sorry to give such a poor review, but what we had planned to be a special meal, was instead quite odd and disappointing. The highlight of our meal were these cute pigs.Otherwise no recs. Also disappointing, that while I told the restaurant that this was a birthday celebration, they completely ignored this. Usually a restaurant would take note or acknowledge. I mean, we were a group of 8 eating in an otherwise empty restaurant. They could have said happy birthday and thanks for celery here.Again, odd and disappointing.

2022-01-02Ive lived here for quite some time so I was extremely happy they finally opened a dim sum restaurant on the island, and their food is delicious! My family and I eat here at least one month. We love the dim sum noodles with vegetables and soy sauce, Chinese broccoli sauteed with garlic, baked pork buns and many of their other dim sum dishes like the steamed dumplings. They have great service even when theyre really busy and the prices arent bad. Their food is worth every penny. The parking lot is small and theyre located on a busy street but theres plenty of parking around the corner.

2022-04-03Love this place! Great dim sum. It is always crowded around lunch but worth the wait for a seat. The food is equal and if not better than NYC. The staff is amazing and helpful. You no longer have to drive to Brooklyn or go into the city for dim sum.
