Great job Caitlin! Twice in a row, my buddy Dave and I, were fortunate enough to be served by such an excellent waitress. The first thing we noticed was her smile and cheerful attitude. Second, she was eager to please, accommodating and even remembered us from our last visit. We were also happy to be seated by the friendly hostess standing at the podium immediately after walking in the main entrance. The Poutine is UNREAL! The crispy fries, topped with a house gravy, and cheese curds are to die for. Full drink glasses were always at hand, and our order was on the table in 5-8 minutes and the food was fantastic. There are always special beers on tap and plenty of smiling workers to go around. The bar tender (Im sorry, the name escapes me) was friendly and also accommodating. Its definitely worth mentioning the cleanliness of the place and debris-free side walks. 11:30AM is the best time to get to Prison City Pub and Brewery for Lunch. There is plenty of street parking at this time of day. The closer to Noon, the harder it will be to find parking and even worse at 12:30. Nonetheless, there is plenty of seating, with Indoor and Outdoor dining; so even if you have to walk, you wont be disappointed! Prison City Pub and Brewing fills up FAST, they are definitely NOT a secret in Auburn. The prices were negligible, the amount of food was ample, and we were glad to support their business. Well be back very soon and look forward to it. Jerry.
Excellent IPA ‘s. One of the top breweriesIn CNY for a wide selection of hazy IPA’s.The stouts were excellent as well. Very flavorful without being too flavorful. The bartender with the beard was very nice and knowledgeable. Will be back often. Nice outside area. Inside too.
This place is dangerous. You will go once and be addicted. We have been twice now (within a week) and we are hooked. We havent had anything that we had a complaint about yet. Beer is good, service is excellent, food is amazing, portions are fair, and the atmosphere is welcoming and relaxing. We are looking forward to going back.
2nd time here, brought my father who is very much a critic when it comes to food and even he was very happy with his dinner! We were seated in the corner in the gift shop so it wasnt the most comfortable but I assume thats because of social distancing mandates so Im not mad. I ordered the pretzel sticks and the harvest grilled cheese and both dishes were amazing!
We travel frequently from CT to Ontario and are always on the lookout for good rest stops near i-90 for lunch. This time, we hit the jackpot!Prison City not only has great beer (4.0+ on Untapped) but also amazing food. Service was lightning fast even though the place was 90% full. It took no time to get a table and drinks came out almost instantly. Their Pale Ale are phenomenal. They also have a couple of great stouts and Berliners. For food, we had chickpea fries, grilled cheese with Mac and cheese side, and the Seitan salad. All were well worth the cost. I would definitely stop here again.
Great selection of tasty craft brews and excellent food. The restaurant decor is based on historic prison theme. A few guest drafts are generally available as well. They are very popular so food and beer options seem to frequently be unavailable off the menu. Ive been twice and still not tried the IPA :) even so you will enjoy regardless as they have a good variety of beers for different tastes; all Ive tried have been excellent.Quite a good selection of very delicious vegan/vegetarian options as well as meat. The salads and appetizers are really good. The schnitzel burger is more like a deep fried pork chop, much thicker than I expected for schnitzel. I recommend the vegan cuban and brussel sprout appetizer. Some metered street parking is available nearby. Outdoor seating is available.
My friends and I finally made our long overdue trip to prison city and it was well worth the drive. Ill start with the obvious, the beer. There was an awesome selection of beers representative of most if not every popular category. They have IPAs, and NE PA, and stouts, and fruit beers, and even a sour. All were excellently done. One of the beers was made with a hops from Japan Id never had and was flavored with dill ... Yes, that dill. I was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance is so cool. Its an open modern industrial feel with splashes of prison thrown in for effect. Even down to the point of one of the doors to get down to the basement looks like a sliding jail cell door. It was cool to just stand back and take it all in, while taking in a beer of course, when we were waiting on our table. Finally lets talk about the food. I want to mention the only negative thing we experienced while there and thats the wings. We tried all 3 flavors and the flavor was quite good. However the wings were breaded which was a downer but we also ordered them extra crispy (typically 120 seconds longer in the fryer) and these were just kinda mushy. Crispy is not a word Id use to describe them. If management sees this review please consider doing traditional, non-breaded wings, or just remove the wings completely. Anyway, moving past the wings lets talk about that burger. Hands down one of the best burgers Ive ever had. The meat is local grass fed beef. All the ingredients seemed high quality, including that delicious soft bun. There was several minutes of grunts and groans as we each were biting into those burgers.Im not going to take off a star for the wings. Everything else was so good it seems silly to subtract for something which is easily corrected. Just avoid the wings and youll be all set.
A very nice cozy restaurant and bar that Brews several beers on premises. It was nice to see that they added a couple dark beers to their repertoire instead of wearing out the old IPA craze. I still would have liked to have seen more in-house brewed lager beers on the list. Regardless, there were bottled beers from other companies. The food was tasty and there were some unique menu items. The brussel sprouts are outstanding. The popularity of the place on a weekend definitely outgrows their capacity to seat people. There are up to 30 minute waits for tables but it is well worth it. Auburn is in Old City however, theres a newer feel to it with craft Brewers and restaurants. Prison City Pub is definitely a nice spot. I recommend it.
Amazing quality in beer, food, and service. The waiters and waitresses are always in the know about what they serve, and are able to help when youre undecided. There is a great range of beer from both Prison City, as well as guest beers. The food ranges from standard pub fare to daily specials, most pushing what you find in other places with both quality and freshness. I highly recommend them for any beer or pub food lover.
Go for the beer. Stay for the food! This award winning brew pub has been leading the revival of downtown Auburn. They have an ever-changing selection of on-premise brewed beers which run from IPAs to stouts to sours to lagers and kolsch. The food is incredible. Its a modern take on pub food. I love the pork belly tacos which feature a delicious lime-cilantro sauce. The pub burgers, grilled cheese, fish and chips, routine, and salads are outstanding. They also have a full bar.
Fantastic little place! This is definitely worth a visit.5 starsFood=A+Selection=AAtmosphere=ABeer options+quality=A+Service=A+Menu was good and the quality of the beer was really good. Ive been to many brewpubs and craft breweries and the flavor of these beers was amazing. Nice menu options. I had the pork schnitzel sandwich and it was one of the best Ive had in a long time, very different flavors that all went well together. Had alot of nice dishes and decision making was tough! Also had poutine, their gravy was unique and was really tasty. Prices were very reasonable. I will absolutley be back when I visit Auburn again.
Wait was not bad for an afternoon, beer is good, my daughter had the burger and it was what she expected, not great not bad but it was a burger, I had the crispy chicken sandwich and it was very good, fries were barely warm. We had to get our own napkins and mustard, but the waitress was attentive other than that. I want to come back and see if it was just a fluke or the fries are always barley warm. So all in all, I need to come back to see if it’s a five star place.—— We came back and the food was excellent, had to go to 5 stars.
First time at Prison City Pub, went for lunch. First thing to turn me off were the seats, extremely uncomfortable. Second thing, I was never offered a straw with my drink, in these times of Covid, its only common sense. Waitress was nice, food was mediocre at best. Very pricey. I dont foresee a return trip to this place.
We really enjoyed our first visit. The staff, especially our server, were very welcoming and friendly. They offer a great selection of craft beers they brew. The menu had some interesting choices. Our selections were very good. I liked the steam punk like decor and that they offer outside seating. A really cool fun place to get some good food and great beer!
Great beer for a great price! Had the afternoon off work and finally decided to stop by to try out what Prison City had to offer. Spoke with Max and another gent, who both steered me on the right path with getting an IPA flight and trying out the Nitro Portet! Will definitely swing by if Im ever in town again!
This was our second visit to Prison City in the last couple of months (we come from Geneva), and we were even more impressed this time. The place was buzzing with customers, inside and out. We had a beer at the bar while we waited for an outside table. The bartender was attentive and great, as was the hostess, who kept us informed of the seating situation. Once outside, we had a lovely, knowledgeable waitress who helped us with our food selection and was upbeat and efficient throughout our visit. Clean bathrooms were very much appreciated. Most importantly, the beer and food were terrific. This is a Finger Lakes gem!
Awesome beers matched with delicious farm to table menu offerings. You can get a flight of beers, or if brunching, a flight of Bloody Marys. For beers, Mass Riot IPA is a must, though youll have to enjoy it by the pint. Crowlers are available for most other offerings. Food items are diverse, with many items available if vegetarian, vegan or gluten free. Service is good with friendly wait staff eager to assist. The only thing preventing a five star rating has been some delay getting food from the kitchen three of the five times weve stopped in to eat.
This is a great place to go with a friend or on a date. The food is good and the atmosphere is perfect. You can also do beer tasting here. I liked the 8 different beers we tried and even left with some to have hat home. The mens bathroom is small and could use some work. It was also mostly black, floors, walls and toilet. I thought it was pretty neat just could use a little more attention to keeping it clean. However it was really busy and the drinks are good and guys tend to miss to pot due to their standing performance. So no harm no foul on their part. It also didnt smell bad. Overall it was a great place to stop and its worth a visit if you havent been.
I was thrilled to find this brewpub during our recent trip to the Finger Lakes. Some of the best Hazy/NE style IPAs Ive tried. We snacked on the caramelized onion dip and a basket of fries while I was sampling my flight. Both were excellent and now my wife is obsessed with replicating the dip recipe.
Had a great early dinner here with my wife. The waiter recommend a flight after discussing which beers I prefer and my wife had a pint of the blood orange. We ended up bringing home a 12 pack because she liked it so much. I had the chicken sandwich which was great however the brussel sprouts were amazing, they had goat cheese and pork belly. My wife had fish and chips, the fish was cooked perfect and the dill tarter sauce we good as well.
Cool place! Checked it out while passing through the area. We were able to make reservations online, which was super helpful. Masks required when not seated. Good food and drink selection! Not a big beer fan, but got a flight (4 x 5 oz pours) and really enjoyed each one! Our server was also very nice! Would come back!
Good food and great beer. The staff was super friendly. They say us in a brewing room so we could be distanced from some of the other tables and not wait. They helped us navigate the menu and took care of the allergy issues we had. I definitely will be back when we are in town.
I seriously cannot Rave about this place enough.. First of all, The atmosphere is so inviting and nostalgic, we loved the vibe the place gave off.Second, the Food.. All locally used items, made to perfection. The burger, the pub cheese and those Brussel Sprouts. Culinary Geniuses in every way possible. And last but CERTAINLY not least, the service. Our server James was Phenomenal, and even that word is an understatement. He was attentive, informative, funny and seriously the best service weve seen in a long time. Hes the reason people like us will be coming back! Thank you so much for a fun adventure with amazing memories in Auburn. Much Love! ❤
The parking can be a bit of a pain the butt, especially on a really busy day. But aside from that everything else is great here. I just came in for a few to go crowlers and left. However, the food items people were eating looked phenomenal. Its also worth mentioning that Mary was very patient and helpful when I was making my beer selections (Im a pretty indecisive person when it comes to trying new beers out). They have outdoor seating with nice views of Auburns business district. And how can I forget about the beers? Their Vienna Lager is spectacular as well as their Klink with Cherries & Guava (not to sour. In fact its very crisp and refreshing and makes for a perfect summer time beer).
Came in last night to get some dinner and drinks. Mind you I’m 24 years old with a valid drivers license as given to the server. Yet was denied alcohol because the server didn’t want to, said it was the law to not serve to anyone with a sideways ID. Even though the New York liquor law states any valid drivers license can be used. Which it is because I currently use it and it expires in 2022 like it says on the ID. Ruined the time and we left. Sad because I really enjoyed coming here. Have been in a couple times now since I moved here in August. 3 stars because every time before has been great but the rudeness of the server last night and how dishonest she was about her knowledge of the liquor laws in the state she serves in left a bad impression on me and my family.
Food was amazing! We split some appetizers as we werent hungry for a whole meal, but we were super impressed. We got the pretzels, hand cut fries, and the brussel sprouts....just wow! The beer we had was great. Our service from the waitress was exceptional. I definitely will go back to try more of their beer and food.
Great Food, Great Beer, Great Service, Excellent price! Super fast service. We had our drinks in a timely manor, then we ordered Pretzels for an appetizer and as soon as we were done that our meals showed up. Super great place. Very chill. Is also a Brewery and they have excellent in House Beer!
Outstanding pub! Our first visit. Obviously, Id heard of them, but hadnt tried their beers or food. So delighted! My grilled cheese sandwich, with a side of Brussels sprouts was so simple, but the ingredients were perfectly married. Really, elevated food. Do check them out.
My husband and I went there on Friday night. Except for waiting for 30 min, everything else was really good. Service was fast and attentive, food was delicious and different than in other places ( pork belly tacos), good selection of beer. Reasonable prices and relaxing atmosphere. Overall it was a good experience and I would recommend this place.
My husband and I stopped by to see what all the hype was about. Made a reservation but didnt really need it for a Tuesday around 3:00 p.m. We were promptly seated. Kevin, our server, was extremely informative, attentive, and professional.Do yourself a favor and order the brussel sprouts. The combination of fresh produce, mustard, honey, and generous chunks of pork belly takes veggies to a whole new level. Also, the fried chicken was so tender with just the right amount of briny, it makes my mouth water remembering it lol. My husbands pork belly tacos were okay. Not the most welcoming experience (no one really greeted us or acknowledged us leaving), but some of the food items are worth trying.
My boyfriend and I recently moved to the area and this was one of the first restaurant/bar we visited. I was not disappointed. Their beer was fantastic! We both got a different kind and we loved them. The calamari was cooked perfectly. My burger was excellent! It was prepared just as I wanted and had excellent flavor! I can’t wait to go back with friends.
Beer was incredible and the food was delicious! Our waitress was AMAZING!! She was the blonde with the nose ring and tattoos (sorry I forgot your name) but she was incredible. She was very attentive no matter the crowd, and her knowledge on beer was impressive. We barely had a wait time for our food, it came out less than 10 minutes after we ordered. All in all, a delicious experience, wonderful atmosphere, and beautifully decorated interior!
The Pub Burger was great, suggest that everyone should have an egg with their burgers, takes a Great Burger to the next level. Service was outstanding, our Server was attentive and always had a smile. The Beer Sample was fun, really liked the 4 Piece and the Columbia. Tasted great with our Burgers.Loved the decor, enjoyed getting our Mug Shots taken. Will definitely be back.
My family has been going to Prison City for years and as most reviews would suggest, the food and beer are outstanding. Im writing a poor review due to a few recent experiences with incredibly terrible customer service that I feel need to be addressed. Last weekend marked the third instance of PC not honoring my familys reservation as it was made. I understand sometimes tables stay longer than anticipated, especially at a brewery, but its unacceptable to need to wait 45 minutes+ consistently as we have despite having reservations for our past three visits. Recently we had a 5pm reservation and were seated at 5:50, only to then hear from our waitress that we had ~1 hour to eat before our table needed to be given up the restaurant next store. We received no apology or acknowledgement of the inconvenience. I could detail my other recent experiences as well but will refrain due to length. My takeaway is that just because you have a reservation, dont count on being seated where and when you anticipate. I will not be returning any time soon.
The other night I got takeout from prison city and I got food poisoning from The food it was takeout I got poison from the rice I got or poisoning from the rice are from the egg on top of the burger I would recommend that they fix this I would not go there do not get takeout from there because they don’t know how to cook the food
They have an extensive draft beer selection that rotates often, attentive servers, and excellent food. I dont think I could be disappointed with anything on the menu, even the grilled cheese was great. Both times we were there, we were seated immediately. They also have outdoor seating, which should be very nice in the summer.
Awesome food good 🍺 & great service I had Cajun ahi tuna very flavorful worthy of being in any restaurant anywhere & my wife had salmon B L T the one thing that was wrong & Im being very nit-picky they forgot the T, she had no problem with it of course & when it comes down to it either did I 😊 definitely check out prison city brewing, you wont be disappointed 🍻
Great food, great service and a great selection of beers! We tried two different beers on out first outing there, the triple IPA and the unfiltered pilsner and we were very impressed! The beer was cold and fresh, and they had unique flavor that definitely sets them apart from other beers. We will definitely go back again to try some more.
I had a very nice meal here with my girlfriend. The server was very friendly and talkative, Chad was happy to share his local knowledge and made our finger lakes trip more interesting. They had a great beer list, including a couple of house made sours and a variety of craft beers from outside breweries as well. The food was good, but not amazing, and portion sizes were a little small for the price. It was a good dining experience, and worth it for the beer even if the food wasnt remarkable.
My second visit and my wifes first. Excellent service, fantastic beer selection and great food. We will definitely be back. If I had to pick one thing Id like to see change its the bar stools. Its probably just because Im getting older but something with a back would be nice.
We had a reservation yesterday for 8 people at 6:00. We got there 15 minutes early to check in figuring wed get seated by 6.Its now 6:15, we still hadnt been seated. We asked when our table would be ready. They said they were just waiting for a table to finish up. We asked again at 6:30 and got the same response. Meanwhile approximately 30 other people that had gotten there after us had already been seated. We waited another 10 minutes or so, and still nothing. At this point, we left and went up the street to Parkers, got seated immediately, and had a great time. We will not be returning to Prison City.
Great beer. Looks like brand spanking new atmosphere. But thats about it for the good. The feels like theyre trying too hard. Limited menu took up half a page, bathrooms had trash around. Service was ok. I had chicken sandwich. Its made with thighs so wouldnt rip when you bit in and kinda bland/dry. Friend got the fish and chips and nothing mentioning that itd be spicy. If youre looking for a good beer place this is it but get food from one of the places on the same strip.
We had some very good beer at this fairly small output brewery. Their own brews were excellent and they had a strong selection on tap of other breweries, the real stuff. Spouse enjoyed the Riot of 29 IPA and I loved the 4 Piece (?) pale ale. Their Porter stood out as well. The food was very good and flavorful, the upper end of pub food. Unpretentious friendly atmosphere in a cool old building. Nice service, good chats with the staff that knew their beer.
Staff very friendly. Beer was delicious. Have been on a plant based nutrition and they had a plant based burger option on the menu. OMG I could eat several of these. Ask for the stone ground beer mustard on the side as the meal doesnt have a condiment. Very good. I also saw the wings and they look delicious and I was half tempted to fall of the this plant based wagon. Not 5 star because the mens bathroom had a smell reminiscent of a college town bar restroom.
My Wife and I went for lunch today, we ordered a flight of beer, the Cheddar Ale soup, soft pretzels, buffalo chicken pierogis, and I got the pub burger. The soup was very good, the best I’ve had in awhile. The burger was underwhelming, though cooked fine it desperately needed to be seasoned. The service was fantastic, our waitress Kate did a phenomenal job. We will certainly be back.
Beer is good and the food is okay. If rather go here for a pint and make my way elsewhere for dinner. Service is nice and accommodating if we bring our two year old. Im so glad that auburn has this top notch brewery downtown. Love the revitalization org the area. Im happy to come here when Im in town.
I only had a flight of beer during tamatofest this year. Plenty of delicious looking food was coming out of the kitchen though. The bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable. My partner did not like one beer of his flight. The bartender noticed and was nice enough to let him try a different one. Excellent service! I wouldnt mind coming back to try the food.
Amazing place to try different types of new beers if you are in to stepping out side of your choice of beer but if youre not in to beer they do have wines and Non alcoholic beverages and I did have an Advertisers beer braised steak nachos white corn tortilla chips, black bean salsa, pickled onions, queso, guacamole, beer braised shredded beef it was great
First time we have been here and probably wont be back. Over priced food and the service was lackluster. Waitress wasnt very attentive, husband ordered a pale ale and received apricot, i ordered regular coffee and received French vanilla and waited 10 minutes for cream and sugar.
First time here because my boyfriend said it was a great place, not impressed.I ordered a vodka and pineapple and my juice ended up tasting sour, while I sat there waiting for my drink that my server Chad (skinny taller man, grey ish hair) walked past it at the bar several times, hostesses kept places dirty dishes and glasses right next to it. Then when we finally received our meals I wanted a sauce for my fries, Chad walked pass us 14 minutes before coming over asking how everything was. I inform him my drink is not to my liking and that I would be needing a box since my food remained untouched due to my lack of sauce.Very displeased, not very clean, and the staff was not 100%on their game. I hope this isn’t a everyday thing because because I heard great things but damn.
Food used to be good the first year. If its not one of their winners, their beer sucks. Bar closes early even on busy weekends. Skip it unless Riot just got launched.Honestly we went here weekly the first year they opened. After a menu change the food was mediocre at best, usual incorrectly cooked and overly salty. The beer is ok, but its better at Good Shepherds in both consistency and taste. I cant say the service is bad, its more arrogant and snubbing.
The restaurant is centrally located downtown and easy to find. The food was delicious, including a brussel sprouts-and-bacon dish I might try to make at home. The service was prompt (although the waiter cracked some strange jokes). It was a good pre-theater dinner choice and offered a generous list of beer for every palate.
Unfortunately, I probably wont be eating there again. Heres why: A while back, my husband and I went there and ordered the calamari- it was awful! It was so over cooked and rubbery. However, I went back with some friends and we shared the calamari- it was fantastic! They redeemed themselves that day and a couple times afterward, it was good also. I went last Thursday and strongly suggested the calamari to my out-of-town father, and once again, it was absolutely awful! The rest of the food was bad that night as well. I think if youre out to drink some beer, that may be the place to go, but if youre looking for good food dont eat there. Unfortunately. I know some cooks have good days and bad days, but ALL of the food was bad.
This place is a gem. Stumbled on to it while out for a Sunday drive to Skaneatles and Montezuma Wildlife refuge. While our outstanding waiter (knowledgeable, personable, and on point like he owned the place- and maybe he did), James certainly augmented the experience, the food selection and the execution of the dishes was top notch. Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, pierogis. And not like youre thinking! Beer was excellent. I brought home four crowlers, large 2 pint cans. Decent amount of shaded outdoor seating. Looking forward to the next visit.
Ordered a series of appetizers, brussel sprouts were full of grease, calamari was not crispy, the poutine - fries were very soggy, the homemade chips and onion dip was great but in all, a very poor showing for the food. The stout beer is always good but the food was some of the worst weve had in a while.
Great food and beer. The wait was much longer than we were told and wait staff did not seat us as quickly as they could have. It was a busy Saturday so it is somewhat understandable but they still have some work to do on the logistics. Other than that it was great and we hope to go back again.
Heres the good and the bad...Good: - The place is very nice, in an area of Auburn that luckily has enjoyed some development (Auburn, keep going).- The beer is fantastic. Small batch means being able to hone your craft, trail and error, with minimizing risk and expenditure. I had the Laser Brain sour, in an 8 oz glass. Flavorful, robust, and glowing, it may be one of the best NYS sours Ive tasted. My brother had the Red Ale (two in fact). Smooth, with a nice hop punch, no onion on the backend. Full but completely drinkable.- Real good food. Not great, but real good. The Bad - Slow service...and this when, the place was, maybe, 20% full. We ordered from the brunch menu, had our beers, and waited...and waited. Which leads to point two...- Getting service wrong. After we finished our beer, about 5 minutes later a couple of guys come in and sit at a table behind us.. Wed now been there 20 minutes by this time. After waiting another 15-20 minutes after placing our order, the waitress brings out the food...for the two guys behind us. Now, come to find out, they had ordered the same meals. But Instead of acknowledging the error, the wait, and correcting the matter, they were served and we still waited a bit more for our order. Thats inexcusable and a major fail.- They only had a handful of beer lists for diners. People were waiting for the list even as they were ordering food.
I wanted to like the pub. I was excited to try the impossible burger. I found myself sadly underwhelmed.Although our server seemed competent, the lack of attention to details coming out of the kitchen could not be forgiven. Both of our orders had an item missing and one of our orders had twice as many fries on the plate (perhaps to make up for the burnt, already cooling fries?).If I lived near this pub, it would not make the list of frequently visited or recommended destinations.
The beer is the best in Central New York. The service is comically slow and awful. We waited 30 minutes just to place an order, and another 40 to get our food. Dining room was not full. We ordered simple food. Ill send friends to get Crowlers and Ill never eat here again.Edit: The appealing sounding glaze for the overdone tuna turned out to be half a bottle of soy sauce. The seitan was a rubbery mess that almost gagged us.
Went for lunch with friends. One friend asked to sample an IPA before ordering a glass of it. Our server, Kate, responded that it had won a national award and was very good. She did not let our friend sample it. 8 oz beers were served half filled in tulip glasses - poor presentation.I ordered a burger and fries. My fries were hard and ice cold. When I called the server over to tell her, it seemed like she already knew what I was calling her over for. She got me new fries: they were hot, but undercooked and mushy.Unfortunate experience. It seems that they rest on their laurels because they have won a few awards for their beer. Go somewhere else for drink and meal.
The only thing that chases me away is this... Youre met by someone at the door that forces you to choose standing directly at the bar or sitting at a table. Its not like a normal bar where you can consult with the bartender, order your choice of brew, then migrate to another location.Truthfully, the food is great. Beer is of course top shelf. However the stress of being shooed away is too much. Im a regular, though it takes an hour each way to get there. We decided today not to make the journey as often because of the uncomfortable position they force you into. Well opt for establishments that fit the typical standard. All we wanted was beer and the story behind them along with recommendations based on our preferences. What we ended up with is a sweet waitress that was unable to meet the expectation. If it were the first time, Id chalk it up to experience. However, its been 100% of the time. Twice this summer I convinced a few buddies to ride over on our Harleys to get a beer. Same thing happened. We all just migrated to the standing tables and ignored the lady trying to shoo us back to the bar. Ugh. Needless to say, they wont go back. Bummer because I like the beer, but all of us veterans at or beyond retirement age and experienced, dont appreciate being treated unlike other establishments.Anyway, Ill go there to get beer if in the area. It tastes good as any brewery that takes pride in its product. Just wont go out of my way anymore.
Puntin was awesome. Who ever came up with that gravy is a food genius. Mix in some perfect pork belly and you have food heaven. Beer selection is all good from IPAs to local ciders. Staff was very friendly always there when needed but not to much. So you could enjoy. We will be going back very soon.
The reservation system is messed up. It is simple you either allow reservations or not. If you allow reservations you have to honor that. Unpleasant experience at this place. We made the reservation at 7.30 and we had to wait till 8.15 pm to get in. The Host was very rude. If you cannot honor the reservations at least teach your staff to speak with courtesy and have the decency to apologize.
The Abundance salad, the calamari, and the brussel sprouts side dish are excellent. I’ve had countless business lunches here and have received consistently great service. Also, thank you, Prison City, for the colorful support of diversity that’s currently hanging from your windows. ❤️🌈
My husband and I stopped in for beers and burgers about a week ago. So disappointing. Our bugers were dry and overly well done. My husband always gets an egg on his...egg was hard and rubbery. Not what we’re used to at all. Their burgers are usually great! Plus the brioche rolls were stale. Please fix the problem because we love this neighborhood place.
I have eaten at Prison City Pub 4 and times. The first 2,I had burgers and fries. Which were very good. The next time I had the fish and chips .This meal was so oily you could see it running off the fish and fries. The next time was the chicken Ruben, this sandwich I would not recommend either , to much wrong with it to explain.
Im not joking when I say that this was an amazing place. The beer (both their own and the curated tap) was both diverse and well-chosen. The food was sublime, with all the usual things you expect out of a gastro pub, great combinations, local specials, good sauces. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here!
My three colleagues and I decided to have dinner here after work tonight. We are new to Auburn and were excited to experience a local brewery. We were seated immediately next to the front door. Our waiter was very patient; he took his time going over the beer list so we could enjoy a good beer flight. All of us commented on the restaurants great ambience as we settled in for a nice dinner. Shortly after placing our food and drink orders, a somewhat disheveled older man sat himself at the table next to ours. He was mumbling something at us; initially I thought he was just trying to chat while he waited for a friend. Wrong. He was asking us for money; we politely declined to give him anything. He kept asking for money for another five minutes; he was obviously drunk, so we decided not to give him anything. The hostess eventually came over to check on the man. He didnt really speak to her, so the hostess sent the bartender over. After the bartender heard the man say he just wanted to get out of the cold, he allowed the man to stay. (?!!!) When our beer arrived, the man asked us for one of our beers. A colleague politely told him no. When our food arrived a few minutes later, the man approached our table and suddenly started yelling at us (completely unprovoked by us). We ignored him. He continued to yell and started punching the air. This is when it got scary. We just looked at him, even though he could have easily hit one of us. This went on for 2-3 minutes before our waiter and the bartender finally arrived to tell the man to leave. The man exited the dining room, and then stood outside the restaurant, smoking a cigar while he watched us eat. After about ten minutes of watching us, the man stormed towards the restaurant door. We notified the hostess that the man was coming back. He came straight to our table and yelled at us again for about a minute. I looked at the man in the eye; I quietly and firmly told him to leave. He kept yelling. The staff finally arrived and got him to leave. I live in NYC and am used to interactions with shady individuals. However, Ive never experienced anything like this. Getting verbally assaulted twice does not reflect well on a restaurant, especially when the restaurant staff knew the assaulter wasnt even there as a customer. All four of us felt threatened and frazzled by both encounters. The restaurant called the police; when the police arrived, they didnt even speak to us (which we found odd). What most upset me about this experience was that the restaurant made no effort at service recovery. They asked if we were okay. The bartender, waiter, and hostess just kept apologizing that we had a bad experience. They did not offer to move us to another table (the first time after the man yelled at us), take something off our tab, or even comp our meal. Nothing was done to acknowledge what happened, nor redeem a threatening experience that reflected poorly on the restaurant. Ive worked in the hospitality industry, and anytime our guests were inconvenienced due to our error or a random freak encounter, we ALWAYS asked the guest how we could make the situation right for them. Whatever the guest said, we did. Prison City did not do that for us. That was enough to make me not want to go back. The fact that the restaurant staff hasnt been properly trained to handle questionable stragglers who want to harass guests makes me question how safe I can feel there.
New development in Auburn! A great addition to the local eateries around town. Not that there is anything wrong with Curlys or the Sunset, but it is nice to see some new flavors on the scene.I was amazed by the beer quality here. Had their mass riot IPA which was very well balanced and smooth. Also had the Roggenbier? This was a new one for me and went along great with my pork sandwich.Highly recommend this place. Awesome to see the 21st century come to Auburn!
Unfortunately we wanted to love it, but were failed with the service. Sat for 15 minutes before we were offered water. And the place had open tables to boot...not busy. Poutine was amazing but the steak tips were greatly undercooked. Were offered a very dry and hard cookie desert for our troubles. Lol. It was what it was but well enjoy the fair in Rochester from now on!
Was sitting outside and started to rain hard.Grabbed all belongings didnt have time to put on my mask, table was close to the door. The head bartender yelled where was my mask.I had it in my hand with all of my wifes and my belongings. He then yelled, put it on!At that time I was at my table. There was a table of white women who when we sat they finished their meal and got up without masks and milled around and he said nothing.I thought instead of yelling he could have noticed the situation with my wife and I and behaved more professionally. My wife and I are an interracial couple and I was the only Black in the restaurant. This was around 3:00 pm Saturday 7/11.
We went to dinner last here for the first time. unfortunately I was not impressed. The beers were wayyyyy over priced, the sandwich I had was not good at all, so and for 2 adults and a childs meal the bill was $75! Super expensive for what we received, we will not ne going back, it was not worth the price.
Couple things..The hostess was miserable beyond belief...Truly overall just an unfriendly person...My entire meal was burnt. Y’all really managed to mess up grilled cheese. How. How is that possible. Along with my chips which were completely inedible. I’m sadly not the kind of person who can speak up and send food back so I ate what I could because I’m pregnant and was starving. I just won’t be returning.
Had the opportunity to try one of Prison Citys brews at a tasting and I finally got the chance to stop by the restaurant. It is great! Me and my friend each had a beer from their extensive beer menu, both were great. We had the fried calimari, beer mussels, catfish sandwich, and portablello bahn mi. All the food was excellent, Service was fantastic and the location is great. If you in Auburn you have to check out Prison City Pub

2021-07-27Prison City is an great pub and brewery! Their beer is excellent and the food is fantastic as well. The Riot in series is always stellar and Prison Citys stouts are some of the finest Ive had the pleasure of enjoying. This spot is worth a trip in itself but its even better if youre coming through the area and stumble across it.

2022-04-27First off our server Katelyn was terrific, best server weve had in a while. Warm, energetic and great with our kids. We had a group of 9 including 3 kids 6 and under. She was super attentive and genuinely cared about our visit. The food was good, get the chicken sandwich. The beer was also excellent, had a west coast ipa and a Porter. The most impressive thing though may have been the childrens menu. Food comes on a prison tray and includes entree, fresh fruit, veggies and fruit snacks. This was the best kids option Ive seen at a restaurant. We live in Buffalo and can buy their beer locally but will definitely be back to Prison City the next time were near Auburn. I would highly recommend this place!

2022-05-07This was my first time here and we had James as our waiter. Let me just say how amazing he was. I’d come back just for him. Don’t get me wrong, the food was amazing, but when you get someone like James as your waiter the experience is 10x better.

2021-07-18Prison city is one of our favorite spots. They always have delicious beer and food. Tried something different this time - the power salad - with a side of their Brussels sprouts. Both were delicious.

2022-03-13Dont know what went wrong today. Buffalo chicken pierogies were good, but my corned beef and cabbage and my wifes mac and cheese were disappointing. Corned beef was sliced very thin -- seemed like lunch meat that had been torched. Although the menu did say the cabbage would be mixed in with other braised root vegetables, there didnt seem to be much cabbage in it. The mac and cheese with mushrooms -- the mushrooms were good, but whatever sauce the macaroni was cooked in was thin and just strange.I suppose people just go here for the beer. Dont go here for the food. Good service, though. Waitress seemed to have a premonition that things just werent up to snuff.
