We just had our sons 10th birthday at Progressive Martial Arts in Fresh Meadows and we were impressed with the entire experience. Kathy, the program director was friendly, responsive, and professional. They make it so simple and they took care of everything but the cake. This place is awesome! Its a huge, spacious facility packed with all kinds of equipment. We were pleasantly surprised at all the games Kathy was able to fit into the session. There was plenty of space for the pizza and cake portion of the party and they even have an area where parents can sit at small tables during the martial arts session. They really thought of everything! The entire staff was so helpful and literally took care of every detail. There was a happy flow to the party that just cannot be faked. I cannot say enough great things about PMA.I was so pleased with the party but my opinion comes second to all the children and especially my son who had a blast! The next day at school the boys were still talking about the party. I call that a successful party, indeed. I totally look like a hero too!
Our 4-year old son started just recently and he loves it from the first day my wife and I found the owner and the staff to be very sincere you can truly see that they care about the children. The studio has a great atmosphere to it largely in part to the people who work there. I never leave reviews, but for Progressive Martial Arts I had to. I would highly recommend there establishment to anyone.
We found PMA through a classmate and started our oldest there on weekends. He has learned so much! He started classes focusing on learning physical skills and how to be faster and better. Now he is a part of the Black Belt Club and is learning more complex movements and linking individual skills together. The coaching staff at PMA is amazing. They focus on personal character development as well as the physical, which engages our son on a whole different level. We have enjoyed the PMA classes and staff so much that we also signed up our other son. They both finish each class exhausted and happy that they have been able to learn something new and be a part of a family of people who are invested in their growth and well being. I definitely recommend PMA to parents looking to engage their kids. PMA also has great extra curricular events like Moms Night Out and seminars for well known fighters and instructors.
Before I started training martial arts I was told not to settle for the first gym I went to and see what else was out there. I took a look at maybe 4 or 5 different gyms providing different programs, but once I took my first trial class at PMA and saw what they had to offer everything else went out the window. The coaches are great, and they pay very close attention to each individual to help you get the best out of whatever youre trying to accomplish. Its a great place for those who look to compete, the students are competitive and help you push yourself to get to where you want to be. Sifu Nick always keeps the gym updated with near gear, and new workout equipment. I highly recommend Progressive Martial Arts.
When my parents enrolled me into this martial arts school back in 2006, it was one of the best things they ever did for me. Not only did PMA do a great job in teaching me Bruce Lees philosophy of Jeet Kune Do and learning how to apply different concepts across various martial arts disciplines, but they also did a great job with instilling important values in me needed to be successful, such as leadership, communication, discipline, and integrity. Thirteen years later, I still attribute a lot of my successes to my instructors and am very thankful that they gave me the tools needed not only to be successful as a martial artist, but also in life. Ive seen this school evolve so much over the past decade and its been great to see all the changes that the owners have made to enhance every students learning and experience. Lastly, what I love about the school is that everyone trains for a variety of reasons (become fit and get in a great workout, gain confidence, train to be a competitive fighter, or just want to learn more about martial arts) and they really foster a family environment here. Everything you need in a martial arts school is right at PMA.
Both my children have been attending PMA for the past 4 years. The entire staff, from the front desk, to the instructors, are fabulous. The program is engaging and rigorous. The students are encouraged to work hard and always do their best. Sifu Nick is a great leader and amazing teacher.
NYC has plenty of Martial Arts schools...but quantity is not always quality. Ive trained at many schools and none have left me as impressed as PMA. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable and are able to teach in a way that is both fun and challenging. The classes are all well organized and the environment is positive and friendly. Taking the Kali and JKD classes rekindled a deep love for martial arts. I think Bruce Lee himself would be proud if he were to observe the level of instruction here. I moved out of NYC and out of all the great things in NY, training here is the thing that I miss the most.
I just hit my one year training here recently and I’ve had a great experience. I started because I wanted to connect with my culture in a different way and joining the Kali classes at PMA did just that. Sifu Nick and the other coaches have really helped me stay active and do what I intended. After my experience, I’ve not only wanted to continue training but expand my discipline as well by joining JKD. Everyone here gives off a very friendly and open atmosphere making it feel like home. I could only hope to continue my training with the help and guidance of everyone at PMA. Thanks guys!
The staff is very friendly and welcoming. My son has been going here for over 5 years now. He looks forward to coming to class. He likes the extra activities like the Nerf Wars and Snowball fights. It always makes his day when he gets the postcards in the mail letting him know he is progressing well.
My son is 6 years old. Probably one of the older kids in the Lil dragon class. The first time I brought him to PMA for the trial class...I was doubtful hoping for the best. After trial class, my son ran out with a big smile on his face says to me “I don’t like it. I love it!!!” I was so happy and relieved. My husband and I have practiced martial arts for some time now and really wish our son enjoy martial arts too. We know PMA is truly a reputable, legitimate and wonderful martial arts school. The coaches are experts at teaching kids and so professional. So far going on sixth class and my son says he wants to go to PMA EVERYDAY!Makes my job taking him there so much easier and pleasant. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 😄😄😄
Our whole family has been coming to this school for almost a year now and its been a great experience. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They know everyones names and you receive a lot of individual attention during class. Im especially impressed with the childrens program here. My son is in the Little Dragons class, he has a lot of fun and it has helped him with his self confidence, discipline, coordination and leadership skills. He is participating in class, listens and follows instructions well - not just in PMA but in his every day classes at school. The staff here is very experienced and patient with the little ones. Even the assistant teachers who are young themselves are very patient and are great with kids. The kids learn real techniques from the start like what I learn in the adults classes, and there are special workshops such as Bully Proofing which I find really useful and practical for my kids to know.
Progressive Martial Arts is more than a school, its a family. No matter your skill level, PMA will challenge you and help you grow. If youre looking for a work out, there is no other fun or exciting way better than the programs here. They host great seminars with such legends as Guro Dan Inosanto, Muay Thai great Ajarn Surachai Sirisute, and Mixed Martial Artist Erik Paulson. Their childrens programs cover a wide age range as young as 4 years old and as old as 18. Both my daughter and son have been going there for the past 9 years and still continue train and learn. Ive recently joined, at 40 years old, their Filipino martial arts Kali class and currently train there now. Theyre positive and family friendly environment makes PMA a perfect fit for my family.
I first came to PMA 2 years ago because I was looking to try something different and be in a positive environment. Coming here ended up being the best decision Ive made for myself. The confidence Ive gained from training here has had an effect on just about every aspect of my life. I am so grateful for the patient instructors, and incredibly grateful for Sifu Nick and Ms. Kathy and the superb environment they have created. If you are looking for personal growth, confidence, self-defense, and increased fitness, PMA is truly the place for you.
Progressive martial arts is a great gym , whether you are trying to lose some weight and get healthy , if you are trying to learn self defense , if you want to compete , or if youre just looking to try something new. Id recommend PMA to everyone . The facility is always clean and has all the equipment you need . The instructors are so knowledgeable, they really help you grow and get better with all the hands on instructions . But most of all I love PMA due to all the great people inside the gym . There are no egos and everyone is just trying to improve and get everyone around them better . PMA really is like a family and its a family Im proud to be apart of .
Progressive Martial Arts is the best family friendly place to bring your kid(s) ages 3 & up to learn martial arts, MMA, & kickboxing, to name a few. My son (11yrs.) has been going since he was 4 yrs. It’s great for adults, too. This place will give you a feeling of trust & assurance from the members of the staff. They are patience & kind. A friend suggested I go & meet the owners Kathy & Nick Sacoulas. They are the best! It was the best decision I’ve made for my son. He became more discipline & attentive to instructions. They also have lots of fun family activities during the Summer & holidays. You can find more helpful information through their website & App. Try it & I promise you won’t regret it.
PMA is a great place to be for training Mixed Martial. All my classmates are very friendly and dedicated. Coach Carlos motivates us to do well and reach high goals such as improving the form and technic. Coach Mark has a lot experience, is a lot fun to learn from him. In PMA the customer services is professional and friendly.
I have been training at this school for about four years now. It’s a top-knotch academy in many respects. The space is large and clean. There is a small free-weight/gym area for students to use in between classes. The owner of the school, Sifu Nick, does a great job at making sure all of the martial arts equipment is replaced frequently. The rest of the staff is very friendly and professional without exception. There are usually posts on facebook or updates to the school’s mobile application for school holidays and events. You can count on a quality event/seminar at the school every few months or so.But all else considered, the most important thing to consider in any martial arts school is the quality of instruction. Progressive Martial Arts offers a number of different classes with different instructors. Since I have been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu exclusively for the past few years, I can confidently attest to that program:There is a beginner class which everyone takes for a few to six months taught by assistant instructors, good jiu jitsu guys in their own right who compete frequently. The beginner class is not intimidating in the least and the basic movements/escapes are very important for the advanced class. The advanced class is a great experience. The teacher, Professor Brandon, is a black belt under John Danaher at Renzo’s Gracie Academy in Manhattan. Since Professor Brandon actively trains himself on a regular basis, his students receive a nice flow of new techniques into the class. In addition, one of Professor Brandon’s many strengths as a teacher is that he will continue to go over new techniques and drills for quite some time. So rather than new techniques being introduced and abandoned just as fast, most students get a chance to adopt techniques and incorporate them into their own jiu jitsu game. Many of the advanced students also travel around the city and elsewhere, either taking classes under Progressive Martial Art’s affiliation with Renzo’s, or competing in tournaments. If you plan on competing, there are certainly many opportunities. But regardless, it is a benefit to have serious and diligent training partners. The advanced class generally has about a dozen students, so it is never over-crowded. The atmosphere is generally friendly and informal. Lastly, there are classes six days per week and sometimes, multiple times per day.In short, I would easily recommend training at Progressive Martial Arts and especially in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program.
Progressive Martial Arts is a great place to train and very clean. They have classes available all week long during mornings and evenings and thats one of the main reason why Im able to train and go to school. The staff and instructors are very friendly and professional. Ive been training there for about 4 years in the arts of Muay Thai and JKD and look forward to expanding my training into BJJ. Highly recommend this place if your looking to train or just get in shape in a friendly atmosphere! Check it out!
The best place to learn martial arts. The staff is amazing and the gym caters to all levels. Their Brazilian Jiujitsu, Muay Thai and Jkd classes are amazing. Going there I made tons of friends and people I can call family. Hopefully one day I can come back to train again!
The most important thing I look for in a martial arts school is attitude. As a woman, I am particularly concerned with safety and respect: I don’t want to be beaten on, or treated with kid gloves, and I certainly don’t want to deal with posturing and sleaze. In my past experience, the right approach often comes at the expense of business sense, and I’ve ended up training with wonderful people in not-so-great facilities, often without even a permanent venue. At PMA, I found the right attitude along with a super-professional operation. The facilities are comprehensive and high-quality, the instructor to student ratio is excellent, and the program/contract structure is considered and clear. I have been welcomed by all members of staff (including owners) from my first phone contact - in fact, welcomed by pretty much everyone I’ve met at PMA - and six months in, feel well and truly part of the family. Its important to keep in mind that what a school and a martial art give you are opportunities: you are going to get out what you put into your training. Learning anything involves commitment, all the more so when physical conditioning is involved. It was new for me to see this in the form of an actual contract, but really, the expectations I have for myself in training are well above what is laid out at PMA. I suggest everyone uses the sign-up process as an opportunity to honestly reflect upon how their practice will become a part of their life. Its important your aspirations align with the time and attention you have available.
Probably the best martial arts gym in Queens. Been here a year now and I’ve learned so much. Can’t thank Coaches Austin, Peter, Kenny, Li and Tony enough for all their teachings and of course Professor Brandon for his guidance. Tara, Pam and Denise are always ready to answer any questions and help out with anything. Join now!
I really like the family friendly environment. They address all the students and their families by name, and to me, this speaks volumes about the relationships they forge with the families that walk into their facility. The students are encouraged to do their utmost and parents gets feedback on how their children are doing. My kids were very excited when they received a postcard from PMA informing them of how they are doing. I am very satisfied with PMA and I am usually hard to please.
Progressive Martial Arts is the premier martial arts training school. Located in the heart of Flushing, PMA has been transforming peoples’ bodies and lives for over 20 years. From classes full of like-minded people to one-on-one sessions with an expert providing their dedicated attention, PMA offers a training regimen for everyone.I’ve been training at PMA for almost a year now & I must say I’ve never felt better. SiFi Nick Sacoulas goes above & beyond generic coaching techniques & is really involved with all of his students. Khru Cyrus Washington coaches the Muay Thai team at PMA. His course will refine your technique and keep you fresh through the full contact sparring drills. Coach Tony teaches the Kickboxing 101 course & really hammers down on basic techniques that will help you learn all the crazy ways your body can move. The PMA team is super welcoming & make it their mission to not only learn each student’s names, but ask about our day & check in with us when we miss a class or two. If you’re looking to realize your full potential and meet great people, PMA is for you.
I learned so much at PMA over the years. Sifu Nick has vast knowledge of the martial arts. Progressive Martial Arts has a family atmosphere that makes students feel welcome. This is a great place to begin your training and/or to continue your training in the martial arts.
I walked into PMA one day looking to maybe try something different from a regular gym. From the first class I took, I was instantly hooked. The work out/ training you get here as opposed to a regular gym can not even be compared. The facility itself, the equipment, the mats and most importantly, the instructors are all top notch. The instructors are all very outgoing, friendly, experienced and very hands on. It is a very friendly atmosphere, where everyone is looking to better themselves while helping others in the process. Disrespect and or hostility to fellow students or instructors is not tolerated at progressive. PMA has become my second home and I can not wait to get there every day, even after working 11 hours on my feet. I recommend PMA to anyone that is simply looking to get into great shape or to anyone looking to compete. If I could go back in time, I would have walked through the doors of PMA much sooner than I had.
I took my kids to PMA 3 years ago to give them some regular exercises. I can see the focus and self confidence they learned. Kids program also teaches power words such as ‘Respect’, ‘Esteem’, etc. Of course, the training itself is a great exercise and the self defense technique will come in handy in case there’s any bully at school.Last year, after I reviewed my regular medical checkup with my doctor, my doctor warned me that I need to do some exercises. I have tried different gyms (NYSC, Bally, Dolphins and few more in the neighborhood) but I always stopped after first couple months. My kids seem to have a lot of fun at PMA so I decided to check out their adult program.I have joined their adult program for 10 months, lost 30 lbs and still love the program. PMA provides a variety of programs with different martial art streams (e.g. kickboxing, grappling, kali) and different levels (e.g. foundation, 101, 201).My two boys and I are still going to the PMA classes. As a parent of two, I do not have any doubt to recommend PMA to any parents or anyone who want to actively improve their health and fitness.
I love and miss this school! I trained there before I moved. I always found the staff and students friendly. I was particularly impressed with the quality of instruction. Going to PMA really anchored in me the importance of discipline and practice; I’ve been able to apply what I’ve learned there to other areas of my life. Gratitude and respect for PMA!
I loved my experience at this school while I was there the atmosphere was good everybody was humble and willing to help if needed. Instructors were knowledgeable in there crafts. I did find it expensive but what do you expect its NY Im sure their making it as affordable as they possibly can. All in all excellent school I would definitely recommend this school for all ages .
This is a special place. Always being interested in the martial arts, I joined here to see if I could learn some cool new skills and to take my fitness to another level. PMA helped me achieve both those goals and more. A few years later, I can actually say I have some good, real martial arts skills (Ive also learned that there is plenty of room to improve in all aspects -- in life and in martial arts.)People of all ages and all professions come here to train. There is an energetic and family oriented feel here -- youll quickly feel at home with the knowledgeable instructors and diverse group of students.
Although there are some great martial arts instructors here, it feels like a mcdojo. Its way too expensive and they suck you into a contract by luring you with the first month trial at 50$ then it skyrockets to 160 per month and 200 if you want to take it more serious, not to mention all the equipment that needs to be purchased. Not my style. Its very monotonous although they do try to help everyone the class is only an hour long and everyone seems to be very detached. Like go in and go out. Wouldnt recommend unless you have lots of money to burn.
I consider PMA my second home and I hold nothing but praises for this outstanding martial arts establishment. The instructors are not only exceptionally knowledgeable in the art in which they teach, but they are also focused on trying to give each student an equal share of individual attention to help develop their skills. Their teaching methodologies are diverse and top notch helping one progress to the next level whether if its from simply being a novice, all the way up to becoming an amateur fighter. The facility and the equipment within the establishment is immaculate and well maintained. Whenever there is a rare instance of equipment failure, it is promptly repaired or replaced. The facility boasts equipment such as Fairtex training bags, a mini boxing ring, a free weight section, as well as ample locker/shower rooms, all of which are kept in peak condition. New pieces of equipment are introduced fairly regularly phasing out the old and worn equipment. Amongst the students there is a strong sense of camaraderie where we train together, spar together, and learn together. Ive personally seen where many senior students will help along a more beginner student with advice and guidance. Its an atmosphere where students from diverse backgrounds and experiences can genuinely learn from each other and grow in mind, body, and spirit as a martial artists. For me, Progressive Martial Arts is a phenomenal place to study the art of Muay Thai Kickboxing and Im honored to be able to train/study my discipline here. My advice for those interesting in pursuing martial arts is to come in and take the free introductory lesson. Come and experience first hand everything that PMA has to offer and I guarantee that you will not leave disappointed.
Listen, I have been training at Progressive Martial Arts for about 3 years now, 2-3 classes 6-10x a week.I am a full time college student and have visited a number of gyms, dojos, yoga studios and other training facilities in NYC. I think Progressive Martial Arts is a well balanced and organized facility dedicated to helping you accomplish your goals and getting you in shape, specifically in shape enough to handle the very technical and advanced training of Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Combat Submission Wrestling, Kick Boxing and weapon fighting. They have all level classes such as beginner levels, advanced levels, with sparring and ranking tests. You can buy workout apparel, training gear, and nutritional supplements at their pro shop. They also have youth classes to get the next generation involved in healthy and active shape. There are experienced instructors and a positive vibe at this facility. They provide a safe and organized environment for beginners, advanced levels and fighters. Progressive Martial Arts attracts a ton of people, within all different fitness/martial arts levels, at all different times. Weather you want to train in the morning or during the evening/night their flexible schedule can serve everyone. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai/Kickboxing classes are offered frequently and include beginner basics and advance technique. Some classes are even taught by special guests brought in by the instructors. Also, they NEVER leave out corrective exercise for injury rehab/prevention or flexibility training. The customer service here is outstanding. It is fast, convenient and efficient. They have clean, spacious training areas that include a boxing ring, a cage wall, heavy bags, body bags, wall bags, and a complete fitness training floor equipped with, air dyne bikes, versa climber, row machine, treadmill, surge 360, dumbbells, etc. They have clean locker rooms with showers and lockers. They provide educated guidance on choosing classes, membership options, convenient billing/purchase options and any other questions you have. Members are kept updated on schedule changes, new classes and seminars. Although I dont drive, the parking here seems to be easy to find. I rarely hear anyone complaining about parking. Now lets get to what everyone is most concerned about.. price. Look, just come in and youll see that Progressive Martial Arts has pricing options for everyone. Even membership options for those with commitment issues and/or for the financially anxious person.Overall, I would recommend this school for anyone whos looking to train in martial arts weather it be for self defense, fitness, or even competition.
PMA is an awesome place for the young and old. Kids starting as young as 3 years old can partake in their Pre-Lil Dragons program which focuses on their hand and eye coordination, attention and most importantly, their listening skills. They have many classes ranging in all age groups and schedules that are specifically tailored to suit your needs. The school is extremely supportive of their parents and helps to encourage the students to bring what theyve learned in class, out to the community and beyond. My son started when he was 3 1/2 in their Pre-Lil Dragons class and he is now 8 and in their Jr. Black Belt Club (BBC). My daughters began when they were 7 and 8 and are now 11 and 12 respectively and belong to the BBC. The schools commitment to our community is invaluable. Throught the year, the school does many fund raisers such as the St. Jude Kick-A-Thon, which has raised thousands of dollars over the years for children with cancer. They hold an annual food, clothes and toy drive for people that are less fortuante and special ones that gave back to the community like during Hurricane Sandy. Im proud to be a part of the PMA family and a BBC mom :) !!! I believe that ANYONE who walks through their doors, however brief, will forever be changed in a positive light!!!
ATTENTION: THIS IS FOR THOSE WHO WANT THE BEST MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING IN THE QUEENS & NYC AREA! --- Without a doubt Progressive Martial Arts is the top martial arts school around for MMA, Grappling, Muay Thai Kickboxing, JKD, and Filipino Martial Arts. They are extremely professional in their martial arts instruction and customer service, unparalleled by any other studio around. They keep the place immaculate and keep the place safe and fair for everyone. One of the highlights that stands out about their martial arts programs is their award winning childrens program.Along with an effective self defense program, their character education system for children is the best around. The staff are professionally trained and they are personable to all and make you feel welcome. When you meet the head instructor and owner Nick Sacoulas, you will be pleased by his warm greeting and dynamic personality. Call them up and tell them you read this review, and tell them Tuhon Pat sent you...
Ive heard about this school way back when I was attending Francis Lewis High School at the age of 15, but was always afraid to start until the age of 24. And no words can express how much this school has helped me from having better discipline to having more confidence any where I go in life. To me there is no better training then coming in and putting your hard work in with great Muay Thai fighters/ martial artists like Tony Chong, Cyrus Washington (aka Black Dynamite), Matthew Semper and Sifu Nick. These guys truly care about your progress and always help to correct you whenever possible! Also the staff there is very friendly and always make me feel like I am part of the family! When i first started i was over weight and barely had any confidence because of the way I looked and the way I felt about myself inside as a person lacking confidence, but I knew I could change that with hard work and massive action. I weighed almost 240lbs when I first started and lost over 30 lbs over the course of being there and still losing some more with proper diet and training. Their schedules do change from time to time but it is never for the worst. It is always to the students benefit and to have better classes. These guys are definitely not in it for the money, like anything outside its a business. And they are in the business to helping other people and creating a better community through martial arts. They are very passionate in creating better individuals through their martial arts programs. To me this school is a way of living and Ive also made some new friends in the process too. Thanks Progressive, I will continue to push myself pass my current level and into the next!- Andrew Smetak
I wouldnt recommend going here, its a great space with good trainers, very diverse martial arts styles but the programs are very limiting. Many of the trainers and top students have left because of how the school is managed by sifu Nick Saculous. If you are looking to do Muay Thai or Jiu Jitsu you are going to have to go through their Phase 1 program which is JKD based. Has nothing to do with Jiu Jitsu or Muay Thai. I trained here for 7 months paid in full and was promoted to orange belt in their JKD program but not allowed to take any higher classes unless I changed my contract and paid more money.I had paid in full for my six month contract and would have to pay more money for advancing, I ended up paying an extra $200 in order to take Jiu Jitsu. Even their Phase JKD program is limiting since the school does not teach arm trapping or weapons which is fundamental in JKD.If want to waste your time and money stay away, their unlimited program was $300 dollars in 2011 I can only imagine how much it is now. Oh and for Queens ppl stay away from Nubreed same nonsense going on there.
When i think of pma i think of intense, awesome, and fun workouts. PMA is an amazing school like no other, it makes me feel welcomed so in a way its like my home away from home. Im more confident about myself and i feel like a different person because of PMA. The staff are such nice people so i feel like everyone should go if they want to learn to defend themselves and want to have fun. I highly recommend PMA.
I Highly recommend Progressive martial arts, family oriented facility that offers high level training for all ages. I trained here as a teenager with Sifu Nick in JKD, Muay Thai kickboxing and Kali, and been training consistently in Brazilian Jujitsu as adult. The place is friendly very clean but legit tutelage in many forms of martial arts.
Progressive Martial Arts is the best place to train, with top-notch instructors, clean mats, and good training partners. The Muay Thai taught by Sifu Nic and Coach Tony will give you great striking skills, along side the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu taught by Professor Brandon (a Renzo Gracie Black Belt). Whether your looking for a work-out, or taking Martial Arts more seriously, this is the place to be.
Ive been progressive martial arts for 5 years. I consider Progressive Martial Arts my 2nd home. I learned self defense, I learned to become a better individual, and learned the true values of respect. Progressive Martial arts has kept my fit, and im physically strong compared to most of the adults there. Progressive Martial Arts provides opportunities and experience in the work field that not many places or even marital arts schools can offer. I may be just one individual but im glad i train at Progressive Martial Arts and I hope to continue training here in the future and for it last for years to come.
As stated in another review: This school has gone downhill, a lot of the best students have left because of what Nick has done to the program. It used to be one that would teach JKD, but now Nicks only concern is making money.Do yourself a favor and find a school that is about the arts not about the money
The owner here is all for money, very disrepectful.Once they lock up your money they dont care the commitment. I had lost $800 in 2 months, despite my request to freeze my Childrens account for their medical issues, PMA still kept on charging from my bank# & never got a service for it. Please dont put your money & Children here.
For me Progressive Martial Arts means family and I know people may read that and take it as cheesy or trite or cliche but I dont mean it like that. This isnt the same type of family you inherent when you eat at The Olive Garden. This is real deal, real life family and sometimes family is complicated. People come, people go Some people leave for a while and come back. Some people leave forever. It is undeniable though that everyone family touches is better for having been a part of it. I live very far away from PMA. Like unreasonably so and sometimes I miss days but family being what family is Sifu Nick will shoot me a message to ask if im okay. My classmates and coaches are my brothers and friends they will get on may case for not coming around more.Sometimes Ill sit down at my desk, paperwork in front of me in neat little stacks and Ill think about my family and the work we put in together. The tales you can only share with the people who fought the same fights you fought and sweat and bled on the same mats as you. Theyre the only ones who really will understand not just the meaning but the color and the shape and the endless weight of the words in the stories youll tell. Ill think about my brothers and sisters on the bags punching with their entire hearts in each swing but now with one less holder to keep the bag steady, on the bench press with one less voice cheering their last rep, the jump rope I use hanging slack and lifeless and the open space on the tatami where I should be and I feel a homesick.Coming home is always a homecoming. Some people asking with disapproving faces Where youve been this whole time? in a tone of voice that only drops that low when you cant hide that you give a damn. Some people greet you with hugs and handshake and wide smile that say without saying Its good to see . and usually my coaches shouting Grab a jump rope and stop talking to people, youre 5 minutes late! Its family. Its really and truly family. And if you know it, you know it too well and if you dont then its absence defines you and you earnestly have my sympathies. Family is never perfect but family cant be because there is nothing to learn from perfection. The good stuff, the knowledge is all in the flaws. Its in the cracks in the pavement and the faded colors in the photograph of days remembered as better then they actually were. We learn from the mistakes of our fathers and mothers and we are better because of them, so families are never perfect but families save us, frustrate us, provide for us and teach us better than we could have taught ourselves. And thats PMA, its Family.
Overpriced they lock you into a contract for 6 months this place used to be really good btw but only 1 hour classes went here when I was a little boy stopped going then came back 8 years later and they have you warm up for 45 minutes and 15 minutes of kicking a pad and if you wanna learn jiu jitsu you have to go threw a phase of jkd which is not even jkd its just kicking a pad jkd comes from wing chun it’s a modified version wing chun is the art of trapping which is what jkd is trapping and center line which they don’t teach like jeet kun do means way of the intercepting fist and they don’t teach it btw really nice instructorsand that’s about it and there jiu jitsu class is terrible you don’t learn anything at all better off going to a real bjj school than pma and nick locks himself in a room and eats Arby’s all day
School will be a better place when sifu nick leaves very nasty and awful human being treated my friends very unprofessionally because we were too “disruptive” funny right cause the coaches never had a problem with us and honestly way too expensive not like any champion is ever going to come out of there.

2022-04-07I want to thank the PMA Staff who we like to think of as family now. You all are amazing. The support my daughter receives, the motivation, the encouragement is bar none. As she was nervous to start at the beginning its now 9 months later and she or we as parents couldnt be happier. She has progressed in so many ways. Her self confidence has strengthened , the discipline and respect she learns to give and not to mention receives from the staff is bar none. She is greeted with a smile at all times. (as well as everyone who walks through the doors) Your staff never misses a beat if their is a reason why she cant make it or needs a little extra assist for any reason. Every student is treated fairly and equal at all age levels. She is now volunteering to help with the youngest students. She enjoys it so very much and looks forward to it. We are so happy with PMA that my husband and I have started training there as well. I myself have some limitations and they are truly amazing with working with me. Never do I feel pressured or forced to do anything I cant handle. They are always looking out for the students and seem to know just who needs that extra help. I cant thank them enough. We as as a family will be with them for a long time.

2022-04-23Being in BJJ classes for six months has been extremely beneficial for my wellbeing. The location is great, the staff and instructors are kind and knowledgeable , and the academy is kept clean. There hasnt been one uncomfortable moment for me amongst all the students. They are very friendly, eager to learn, and ready and willing to teach novices like me. One should choose PMA for all its health and strength benefits, as well as character building.

2019-05-29We love the PMA family! My sons have been training at PMA for the last 3 years. My initial goal was to have them learn basic self defense. They have done that and so much more, especially my older son (who is now 11). He was very shy and couldnt even look at the instructors when speaking to them. He has grown a lot of confidence and leadership and I thank the coaches for that. My youngest son (8yrs old) has also built confidence. He started as a little dragon and quickly moved up to the little warriors BBC class. He loves learning new techniques but his favorite is Kali. Its a mixed martial arts environment, so the kids learn about different arts (JKD, BJJ, Kali, Thai boxing are some). If you are looking for a martial arts school, PMA is definitely one to try out!

2019-05-02I LOVE this school! The childrens programs are great! My young daughters only joined 1 year ago and have learned so much while having fun developing new skills! Their focus and confidence have improved, which were 2 main reasons I had decided to enroll them. The school is clean and family oriented and the staff is so friendly. The instructors are true professionals who are so caring, patient and dedicated to helping their students grow mentally and physically. I would recommend this school to anyone and truly appreciate what they bring to our community!

2021-09-27Great place to go to, phenomenal instructors if you have the money. My friend and I wanted to sign up and waited for a promotion. When we found out the special price of $150 per month, it was impossible for any STUDENT to even afford the special prices. This is also their smallest contract of 10 classes per month. During the promotion period, I talked to his wife, the co-owner, and she said she would get back to me about seeing if there was any way to negotiate prices and number of classes allotted each month. We spoke about price changes to downgrade to 1 class per week, but she did not want to compromise. It has been 2 weeks since and no response.

2021-05-09I had a great time training in muay thai here. The staff are friendly and the trainers are knowledgeable. They will push you to your limits. For anyone looking to get in shape or train in martial arts, I highly recommend this place. I have been training here for over 3 years and feel that I have improved significantly during that time. Thanks PMA!
