I have been to many DMVs before. This is literally the best one. Free parking, short line, friendly and patient staff. It would be better if they could turn up the AC a little bit because it was hot there. But overall it’s a great DMV. Make sure to make an appointment online before you go.
My husband and I renewed our licenses yesterday to the Real ID and our in-person appointment was such an improvement on our previous experiences in Westchester county. From booking the appointments online, to the emailed reminders, to being met at the door by a welcoming face, through the staff we dealt with through the renewal process I have nothing but praise. All the staff were friendly, competent and professional - thank you.
First I went to Pawling. DMV. They are closed permanently according to the sign on the door, so I drove to Brewster. I was greeted at the door by the officer who kindly asked what I needed to do. He said. Line A. There were 4 people in line, I waited maybe 2 minutes. Did my biz and was out. Yeah. Plate surrender.
I called today to check about a insurance lapse and this lady literally gave me attitude, told me to stop wasting her time and hung up. It’s ok cause I’m gunna call the main office in Albany and let them know they have scumbag Karen’s working at their job. I don’t know if it’s that time of the month but I’m appalled by the customer service. Don’t worry Karen your bosses and higher up are gunna find out
Like to give a special shot out to the old lady giving me attitude and immediately trying to transfer me without helping me. It’s a shame people like her who work there don’t want to do their jobs and give people like us problems for no reason or cause they don’t like their job and are miserable. Anyway thanks for a great horrible experience again Brewster DMV
Great place. Very quick service and the workers are very helpful, however if you call your call is very important, but experiencing high call volume and will be connected to the next available representative. , they appreciate your business. You hold, and I did because I have a question that can easily be handled over the phone and it will save me a 1/2 hour trip and a wait on line. I was patient for 31 minutes (thank goodness for phones that calculate time) some one picked up and just hung up the phone. So Im currently waiting once again to see the outcome, so I waited 16 minutes this time and again, someone picked up and hung up. So apparently they do not want to answer calls. I called back and currently waiting again. I will do this all day if I have to. Wait time is long it was once the place to go. Better off in White Plains so you can sit and wait.
I was called to the corner booth and was greeted by an extremely efficient person who processed all the forms I presented for title and registration in one minute and 57 seconds. I even asked for a better plate number, which she immediately gave me. It was so fast and conducted with such military precision that I didn’t have a chance to ask her name, but there was a small Captain America figurine with a caricature or her head on it and a rock with a bumblebee on it reminding the customer to please “be kind.“One expects the worst in any DMV and I left so incredibly impressed with this operation that I didn’t mind paying the fees and all that sales tax on my recently acquired vehicle.Attention Manager: please give this person a huge raise or make her the next manager after you retire!
There needs to be some training in regards to phone etiquette. Working for the DMV is a Customer Service position. If you dont like helping people and they only serve as an inconvenience to you - quit your job. Thankfully, I received the information I needed. Unfortunately, in my already stressful situation, I was made to feel like a complete bother.
I went to drop paperwork off at their drop box, as per the instructions online. I was told they are no longer accepting items in the dropbox and have to make an appt; no problem. Ive been holding on the phone, 1st time for 3hrs, later in the day, another hour, then again another 1.5 hrs. There has to be a better way.
I always dreaded going to the DMV for any reason, knowing I would be waiting for hours. until I started going to Brewster DMV. Best location Ive been to and the lines usually move very quickly. Parking is limited but I havent had an issue finding a spot in the 5+ times Ive been there. However, dont even try giving this office a call as they will not pickup, ever. I was on hold for 30 minutes without speaking to one person before I hung up and contacted the call center directly.
Every DMV office should run like this one ..Clean and efficient before CoVid as well as now, during all our ongoing safety and sanitation precautions.Their staff has always been polite, helpful and professional .. I have never felt frustrated or irritated when at the Putnam DMV .. and almost everyone has had a bad experience at a DMV at some point in time .. 🙃 ..I only wish all DMV offices in every state could be trained by the excellent people here in the Putnam County Motor Vehicle Office.**FYI .. Putnam is not now, nor has it ever been my home DMV office .. I have been licensed and dealt with other Motor Vehicle Offices in six different states, including NY.I am not currently licensed or living in NY, but had business with the DMV today.I have no family or friends who work here .. so Im basically saying that the praise Im heaping is well deserved by their staff.Thank you For all your help and keep up the great work!! You are appreciated!!
Agree with everyone else in regards to phone calls. today I called and was on hold for 57 minutes before I hung up. Tried to get through several times after and got Sorry, were unable to complete your call at this time, try again later. Got through after a few tries and again was on a continous loop for 44 minutes and its now 430 pm and theyre closed. Really should have someone strictly committed to phone calls. DMV is a place that has constant business, but for those in wheelchairs, unable to get around, or someone like myself with a sick 8 month old..Cant be standing on line inside for over an hour. A phone call alone wouldve been helpful. Extremely Dissapointed.
Only giving one star because zero isnt an option. I looked up the hours before coming over here yesterday. It said online that the office would close early on the 24th and would be closed on the 25th. Then, I got here on the 26th to find a note tacked to the door stating that they were closed. Several people in line with me today had the same experience yesterday. Today, I am approximately 150th in line. All three parking lots are full and cars are lining the street. People are being admitted to the office one person at a time, while the rest of us are in a line that goes around the back of the building. This is a disgraceful, disgusting, and disrespectful way to do business and to treat people. This office should be ashamed of themselves for closing yesterday without posting it online, causing people to stand for hours in the cold today.
This DMV appointment scheduling is the worst I have seen I was on a phone for 3 hours to make an appointment for my permit test and yes I know I have tried to make an appointment on the website but it won’t work for me and when they got me on the phone they hang up I demand to know why there is no appointment slots to take my permit Why is it I cant take it
I do work for a dealership in Westport, Connecticut and I do go very very often to DMV branches all over Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York, and let me tell you something, the employees at the Putnam County DMV in Carmel, New York are not only faster, they are charismatic, educated, and always ready to help you. This is what excellent customer service is all about !!!!...... I hope we could have more people like them everywhere. I love them !!!!
These people made me wait 1 hour on line then said if you are registering a car go to window 11 I waited another 20 minutes to be told go to line A where it is another hour wait. Absolutely nonsense the girl at window 11 has a terrible attitude as well no help .might as well go to the city.
Not your average bear! I dont always go to DMV, but when I do, I PREFER Carmel DMV because they have personable people who DO seem to give a damn. The ladies who assisted me with damaged plates were helpful to a fault and got me out of the office within 15 minutes on a moderately complex transaction. Hat tip!
Everyone hates the DMV, but Ive been going to this DMV for years. Walk in, tell them why youre there, they tell you what you need, you go complete your forms and return to the window..and youre on your way. Done & done fast. Theyre not wait staff they dont have to be all sweet. yet they are patient and professional...& they know their stuff and get you done and on your way!! Do your homework..Show a little respect and see how fast & easy your DMV experience can be.
DONT GO TO THIS DMV unless you want to deal with rude, discourteous people. Can only make an appointment in person not by phone, this is the year 2016 isnt it?!! Then you go there & ask for an appointment later that same day & they rudely tell you that isnt allowed. How are these people even able to hold their jobs.
I came here after days of going back and forth to the DMV offices in Yonkers and Peekskill. They were able to register my car from out of state with a notarized title. They gave me the NY plates. They also fixed my name on my driver’s license. I loved the way I was treated at your location. Thank you!I will always go there from now on, even if I have to drive for an hour. You treated me with respect and kindness. Love you people. You rock.
The most pleasant dmv I have ever been to! Friendly staff who go above and beyond their dmv counterparts, quick service, and know what they are talking about. The dmv is supposed to be (h.e. double hockey sticks) on earth, but this is heaven compared to that. Thanks guys keep being human beings!
Deserves 0 stars. They messed up my zip code and when I went to change it online they told me I had to enter my zip code which is counterproductive! When I called this DMV they were so unhelpful and on one instance, rude. They were unable to give me information I asked for and often when I called and would be on hold I got hung up on.
The dmv here was beyond terrible, i was helped by an older gentleman that not only was not helpful, but laughed at me when i didnt have one of the forms i needed and was rude, the people at this branch are bullies, i was under the impression this would be a friendly helpful dmv but the reviews must be fake or something cuz they were mean and unhelpful, ill take my business elsewhere to my local branch that always helps me out, i wasted my time and gas so i suggest to find a branch that helps you out and to stick to it, i wish i did
The rudest most mean people work there...down to their supervisor who I spoke to about the woman I spoke to prior being rude and unprofessional and the supervisors response was do you have a point?!?!?!? I will never go there again. This is the 3rd time Ive dealt with rude, nasty attitudes and unprofessionalism. Never never NEVER again!!!
I have tried multiple times, at various times of day, various days of the week...and I have NEVER gotten anyone on the phone. Im honestly not sure they even have phones at this rate...currently 30mins into being on hold. Ridiculous. Has anyone actually ever gotten through???

2022-06-18The security officer lady in the lobby is the rudest person I’ve ever met. She needs to find a new job that doesn’t involve dealing with the public because she clearly can’t handle it. The rest of the lady’s and the supervisor are all ready to jump down your throat for no reason. They wouldn’t give me my title back and confirmed it was in the building. Negative five stars for this place if possible.

2022-06-03Could not have had a better experience. Went straight to the booth at my appointment time, no waiting and the lady who helped me was so nice, professional and patient. there were a few things wrong with my paperwork, and she helped sort it all out in the friendliest possible way!

2022-01-26Had a great experience at the dmv in Brewster. Upgraded my driver license and executed 2 vehicle titles modifications. Sue did a great job handling all three transactions. I made an appointment a day earlier, and was in and out in about 30 minutes. Front greeter and photo staff were also efficient and helpful.

2022-02-08It a shame that people like Mariam work at this location. Truly the nastiest attitude I have ever experienced anywhere. I asked her a simple question which just needed an answer and she responded with calling me stupid and belittling me. She should be fired for having such horrible customer service experience. Truly disgusted

2021-12-17See my pictures to know where to turn into, it was a little disorienting with the turn while you go up hill on the street but once you take the right turn you can’t miss it.Currently you need an appointment to enter and wait in line but when I called before entering there was only 3 people inside during 3pm, took me like 4 minutes to go in and go out. Better tan place than the other dmv’s. People are nice if you ask how there day is going haha.

2021-09-28My daughter had an appointment today at this office for her permit test. COVId rules have you waiting outside, which I totally understand, but I was nervous. She came out smiling so widely and couldn’t stop talking about how wonderful everyone was. From the police officer and front door greeter, to the staffer who administered her test (she passed) and the other staffer who told her to smile pretty for her picture. You don’t realize how your every day kindness affects this you encounter. You helped to make her feel at ease and all congratulated when she left. You gave her what I couldnt inside and you didn’t have to. Thank you so much for all your kindness.

2021-06-02Since the pandemic they have a new system where you must make an appointment beforehand. I had to wait two weeks which is the reason for a 4 star rating. More time slots would be very appreciated. That said, I was in and out in a flash because of the schedulingThe employees here have always been very nice and helpful. I cant say they have ever been anything but exemplary.
