Gives off true pub vibes....Im not a beer drinker but this place makes me want to try to excite my tastebuds. The dishes are a classic hit. Even kid friendly as we took our child with us after school. Mac n cheese and wings was a hit for her. Will be returning back to try more of their drinks and dishes
Putnams is my go to favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. I have never had anything I didnt love. My favorites are the steak au poivre, wild atlantic salmon, and deviled eggs appetizer and their buttermilk biscuits with jam during brunch are delicious! They also have excellent, A+++ customer service which is just as important as the food in my book. Everyone is always so friendly and very accommodating when I call or stop in. They did forget to include the peppercorn sauce with my steak the last time I ordered but they quickly delivered it after I called them back and included a slice of pie to say sorry which I appreciated.
The food is great here. The service is usually terrible. Every time I’ve been here the servers have been largely inattentive. You need to wave them down to get water, drink refills, even to put in your order. On top of that the have a fixed 20% gratuity built in. There are many better places in the neighborhood.
11/28/2019:I attend college nearby, and have also been to a Yelp Elite Event that was hosted here in 2018. Ive also visited here of my own accord with friends many times. They are a little bit on the pricier side but the quality of food each time I order has always been really good. Delicious tasting and fresh.Customer service is always really nice and accommodating to wherever Id like to sit. Food is always delivered hot and promptly. Server always checks in an appropriate amount of time and overall Ive yet to have a negative experience here. Nothing but good times, so I do recommend stopping by if you ever have the chance! Their interior is also very cozy feeling and theyve got a speakeasy downstairs!!!11/25/2020--> DURING COVID TIMES:Mac and cheese, chips, and a soda will run you $25 before tip. So college students beware. This place has gotten even more expensive thanks to covid. Like most restaurants, theyve upped their prices but this place has always been on the $$$ side for the neighborhood. Just keep that in mind so your jaw doesnt drop when you see the prices. In fairness, Im rather small as is my stomach space, so their portion sizes are just right for someone of my 53 stature. For those with more ravenous appetites just an FYI, theyve cut down their menu significantly for lunch. Not sure about breakfast or dinner but I imagine it might be similar.During my most recent visit in late October it was rainy so I was grateful that limited capacity indoor dining returned. There was only one guy working, doubled up as the bartender. Told me to sit where I want and to order using the Toast app for contact-less ordering. You can scan the QR code that is taped to every table or just download it from your designated app store and search up the restaurant. I was having trouble paying for my order through the app so the waiter just took my order. I didnt get his name but he was suuuper nice. Very welcoming. This place has always had great and friendly customer service so that hasnt changed.Overall, I do miss the rest of their menu but their food quality is still high up on the bar which is great. Unfortunately I cannot afford to visit this place as much anymore but I highly urge you if youve got the means, to please support this local gastropub!!
I thought this was going to be a great experience. I met my friends for lunch, enjoyed the food, I paid separately and left before everyone else. Thankfully I had my receipt emailed to me because my friends texted me frantically that they were being treated TERRIBLY by one of the staff as they were paying to leave. The staff member insisted I didn’t pay and was extremely rude to them, to the point they felt they had to defend me and text me to confirm I paid. I texted my friends my receipt as soon as I read what was happening. By then they had left but this really is unprofessional service. My portion of the bill was only $20 out of $250 and they were wrong.
This spot is cozy, homey and welcoming. The dining area was actually smaller than it looked from the outside, but it still had a good amount of seating. They had a nice wooded bar to the right of the entrance, fully stacked and ready to serve the brunch crowds! They offer bottomless brunch every weekend, or you can just get whatever that makes you (and your tummy) happy! We ordered Scarlet Flip and The Halpenny. The Scarlet Flip was very refreshin, bubbly and elegant, I really liked it! The Halpenny had very strong espresso flavor. Wake you up with an aromatic punch! To start off, we ordered their Buttermilk Biscuit and Mac & Cheese. Bisctuit was super moist and soft, warm and fluffy like a cloud that is ready to rain down some rainbow drops! Mac & Cheese was so much smaller than we expected, but packed with great flavor! This little pot of gold was creamy, filling, and satisfying.Once we saw the size of the Mac & Cheese, we felt ok about adding a second appetizer that we really wanted to try. We ordered Scotch Egg. The egg was perfectly cooked, meaty, satisfying bite. For main, we ordered Impossible Burger and Putnams Burger. Impossible Burger patty was more thin and flat than the ones I’ve had elsewhere. Regardless, it was still very tasty, packed with flavor. For Putnam’s Burger, we added cheddar cheese, bacon, and egg. It looked like the Leaning Tower of Pisa!!! And it was quite tasty! High ingredients, prepared with care and love. Needless to say, it was super filling and satisfying. As you can imagine, we were stuffed. But, we somehow managed to order their signature Irish Coffee as our dessert. It was much bigger than we expected, but it was not concentrated, so that made sense. Still, it was nice and strong, warm and went down smooth. Our server. McKenna was super nice and friendly, polite and welcoming. She took a good care of us. It was a satisfying and fun brunch. We don’t usually go to Brooklyn for brunch, but definitely worth the trip! This place had such warm, relaxing atmosphere, we had a really good time. We would love to go back for more of their upscale cocktails and tasty food!
This place has quality food. Is consistently good every time I come here. Its especially great for happy hour. $6 wines, discounted appetizers from 4-7p.m. Plus, the wait staff is amazing. They are super friendly and make you feel like youre at a friends house having a great meal. Atmosphere is rustic and hip at the same time.
Perpetual source of disappointment. Ive been coming here for years since they opened. I always leave feeling either ripped off.. or unsatisfied. The food is good but their online menu is always different than the in house menu and always in a bad way. Prices are higher and way fewer options. They are trying to be a gourmet gastro pub of sorts but just cant really pull it off. Servers are competent and friendly. I think Im done with this place. Too many better options in the neighborhood that do similar things waaaayyyy better. Im just tired of being disappointed. In NYC you really dont need to revisit a place that is mediocre. Just sad because the ambiance is nice.
Went for Late afternoon drinks and appetizers. Both were good but drinks were a touch too expensive for what they were but thats the new normal. Service was very good. Due to weather we had to eat inside. Tables were spaced out reasonably but had to knock off a star because they did not do vaccination screening.
Great spot to grab a drink with friends! The food is fantastic! A very impressive special with the oysters on Thursday. The grilled chicken was really good too. The ciabatta was so soft and the tomato jam was the best I’ve had. They obviously care about putting out good food. And the cocktails were really well done.
A trusted local spot. Food is always on point. Great pint of Guinness. And they show all the best sports games on the Telly. Outdoor dining is also very nice. If you’re in the area visiting you have to drop in. If you live in the area then you’ve probably been here and enjoyed it.
A gem. A little pricey but worth it once and again. Everything I’ve eaten has been excellent, they’ve a great draft beer selection and service is spot on. Right now (June 2021) they are showing the Euro matches inside and outside, it’s fun, relaxed and most welcome after this pandemic year.
I loved the service here. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. As for the food, that was good too. I was a little disappointed with the slow service. Although the service was quite slow I still enjoyed my experience here and look forward to returning in the near future.
The service, servers, and bartenders are amazing!!! The atmosphere and ambiance is always high spirited. You can always make new friends or just relax if you want to decompress. Been going there for years and never, not once have I experienced a bad situation.Great seasonal menus for bar and food. These people know what they are doing and know how to put on a great performance!!!
Group of 4 went to dinner on Friday night and was promptly seated as it wasn’t overly busy. Waiter dropped off water with out introducing himself and disappeared. Ordered through the toast app and they lost half of the tables ticket. So while half of us ate a separate waitress got our waiter from the Bermuda Triangle and he fixed our order. Food came out fast, was good but not worth the prices they were charging. At close out trying to get a box to leave and we noticed there were no wait staff addressing any tables for the next 15 minutes. Went inside to find my waiter sitting in the back watching videos on his phone. I’m clearly disappointed with the service, and more so with the app making us PRE-tip 19% minimum for awful service and mediocre food. We won’t be returning.
Very unfortunate experience !! Simply put: detestable! My school came here as an open bar hour where we spent a significant amount of money. After the allotted happy hour time a couple of colleagues came to spend money. (Due the to the open bar ending ). They ( or in descriptive terms the man with the pleather hat) denied them drinks because they wanted to maintain a restaurant setting. Although the tab was paid, this is a PUB , and there were 6 patrons in the establishment (outside of our school of course). Overall IF YOU ARE BLACK I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND unless you are a fan of discrimination and disgust. As a community...... WE DONT LIKE THAT.
I love this place: lovely atmosphere and excellent food-I’ve had nothing but great meals here. The mac and cheese, burgers, and flourless chocolate cake are superb! They are also wonderful with confidently answering questions for/catering to those with food allergies, and they have a slew of non-salad vegetarian options.
I liked the food alright, but the server was a bit of a pain. We sat there for a long time in the heat, but no one bothered us so that was cool. We went for brunch and they have an online menu u have to access. If your phone is acting up its a real problem to make an order. The person i was with had some phone issues, and the wait person made her feel inept telling her she should do it like ur getting grubhub Lol Then they brought my food like 20 minutes before hers. Ugh. Otherwise alright.
Normally this is my go to spot anytime I go out, but the last several times we have been there on a Friday night, I have been really disappointed with the service ( half full and it still took a long time to get our drinks and order in.). When the food arrived we immediately noticed that the quality and portion sizes have also declined. Only one person out of the four of us really enjoyed the food. This is the third Friday night weve tried. Super disappointing for us regulars. It has always been a solid place with a great atmosphere and good food.
Good atmosphere. Works for both grabbing a beer (good draft list) or food. Ive been for both brunch and dinner. I enjoyed brunch more but dinner was also good. The new chicken with potatoes is delicious. It can get pretty loud, but its not too bad unless youre expecting a quiet sitdown.
My family goes here with our basenji on Sundays for a really nice brunch experience. The staff is amazing as well as the food options. They always nail it. Before you pay your bill, make sure that you go to the bathroom downstairs as they have a dungeon there. We will definitely come back!
Both times my boyfriend and I were here for the Catfish sandwich. We sat inside the first time but the second time we sat outside. Neither server introduced themselves by name but the food was enjoyable. The mussels were very delicious although an option of sauces for them would definitely be better.
Really great service, here. Whenever I hear of a place talking about how great their burgers are I can help but try it out, I tried Putnams burger and while quite delicious, was cooked more than I had asked. Without delay they removed it from my bill and offered me another, which I refused, but I enjoyed the attentiveness and consideration. They serve typical pub food with a bit of an English influence, plus a bit of flair. The mac and cheese is wonderful and their root beer float is just incredible.
Pretty disappointed with what has happened with this local pub - the prices have all gone up and the service has all gone downhill... we waited 55 minutes for two burgers after waiting 25 minutes even place our order... at one point we considered just leaving - we noticed the table next to us were offered free drinks for their wait and overheard another table get an apology for long wait... not us, not even acknowledging the late food is weird.Overall - the food is good, the prices are no longer matching that and the poor service should remind me why I only ever order take-away now. Really disappointed - this was our go-to.
One of the best, if not the best, neighborhood spots on the North side of Fort Greene for great beer and quality food. The management are great as well as service staff. With the new-ish addition of their Circa beers (they also own Circa Brewery in downtown Brooklyn) it’s also a great place to sample local beers. Or just hang out with the family.
Its a nice little place to enjoy a glass of wine. Theyre causal and the atmosphere is laid back. I liked the decor of the place. They offer food late night although my friend and I only had drinks. They have a decent selection of wine and drinks. Its one of the nicer places to have a drink in the area. I would come back again.
First time I came to this place they were sold out of impossible burgers so we left (no other vegan options). Tried again a few weeks later and we were happy they had them this time. However they were overcooked, so they were dry and brown rather than juicy and pink. I hope the kitchen learns to cook them right. I’ll still probably be back!Edit to say they switched to beyond burgers and also offer a vegan bolognese! +1 star
Putnams used to be one of our fave spots and the main reason was the burgers. They recently changed the burger and you now pay $17 for something that resembles the double burger from Shake Shack. The menu also has an obnoxious notice stating no substitutions are allowed which means that anything you used to love getting on your burger - from bacon or a fried egg to simple lettuce and tomato - is now a long, drawn-out debate with your server over what kind of burger the chef is comfortable making for you. What I love about Putnams is the atmosphere, but this changes it. If Im paying $17 for a burger, Id like to add blue cheese and bacon if I want and not be told that the chef wont allow it. Id also like to be able to stipulate that I like my burgers well done without dealing with a bunch of pursed lips and repeated explanations about how we do it. Thats not the treatment you expect in a laidback neighborhood pub. Its not something Id tolerate in any restaurant. And to top it all off, the burger was better before. Hope the original burger returns to the menu and the original feeling returns to my favorite restaurant. As they say, if it aint broke dont fix it. It was one of the best in Brooklyn.
Putnams is one of my go to spots in Brooklyn. Always a diverse crowd which is great for people watching... and Ive even had a few celebrity sightings. The good thing is, no one in Brooklyn cares so even celebrities can come chill with out being bothered. The food is great... I always have the fish sandwich and its always delicious. The beer selection is good too... so just having a drink at the bar is always an option. This place is great! I highly recommend it.
Came in to watch a boxing match, paid the $10 cover. Any available seats by the bar were uncomfortably being guarded by other patrons, fine... took an available seat toward the back, but was more or less made to feel like I was in the way of foot traffic. Got up, went to the front to order a drink and just stand until my friends arrived. No service, two clueless bartenders staring at their till for seriously 5 minutes straight, dealing with presumably another gentlemen waiting for a table? Not sure. Not even busy, its 2 hours before the main event.Bartender finally turns, sees me, Im about to speak, she then half grins, turns, walks away. 8 top behind me not bussed for 20 straight minutes, just sitting their filthy. Would have loved to take that when my friends arrived. Since I cant get a seat, a hello, a drink, apparently anything, I wait outside.First set of friends arrive, they dont ask about our party, its size, just drop its a 10 dollar cover line, fine, friends happy to pay, they were well aware.8-top by the front, still not bussed. Finally asked if wed like a table, tell them we have more coming, eventually ushered to a booth, too small for our entire party. Server comes, asks for drinks besides water. We confirm water, I ask for pilsner, says look at the menu. Great... or you could just take the drink order, but fine, you want to take them as a group. My friends came from a prior event, not ready to drink, would like to get some food, waiting for the rest of the group, were here for the long haul, shouldnt be a problem to punt on ordering for a moment. TV volume is blaring, it seems clear they are setting up for the boxing match and not for a regular evening of dinner/drinks.Server comes back, we reiterate water for my friends, pilsner for me, were hungry and will be ordering after some water. Ten minutes later, pilsner arrives. Water hasnt. Five minutes later he comes back, anything else? Yes... water to start for the third time. He comes back and SLAMS a carafe and three glasses down and walks away.Look... I get that you need to make your tips and a table which isnt ordering immediately might feel like bad business to you... but there is an event, its 9PM, and we explicitly stated wed be ordering. My friends have worked in the industry before and are super respectful. Can you extend us the courtesy of WATER? before we order enough to rack up your tip? Had you just brought it wed have ordered instead of you dragging it out. Can you say hello? Clean you bus and clean tables? Can your hosts actually do their jobs? Take party sizes, tell them where to wait, etc? Can you show people to their seats? Can you be... in the hospitality industry for just a moment? The rest of our friends arrived and since the waiter was rude again I just left. Dont have time to waste on that. Really really really bad look Putnams. If you dont want to do the sports bar / big event thing, then dont. Ive lived in Clinton Hill for 13 years, moved out recently a few years back. So its easy to say I wont be back.
Putnams used to be our go-to restaurant for a reliable, no-frills, relaxing dinner. They had a decent beer list, they were good about accommodating us with our toddler, and I liked their burger - a simple, well-cooked staple that you could order your way and that youd expect from any decent corner pub.But the last three times weve been to Putnams, the experience has been awful. From what we were told, they recently brought on a new chef (if you could call him that). This chef - and seriously, Im laughing inside that a pub takes themselves so seriously to bring on a chef - reduced the menu and changed a lot of the remaining staples. For example, the burger, which I really liked medium rare and with blue cheese, now only comes the way the chef serves it: greasy double patties with a signature sauce and cheddar. Its a soggy, flavorless disaster. Gone is the standard pub burger that I loved. I asked if I could have a simple burger with blue cheese, the way I used to have it, and was told no - the chef wont make any substitutions. No one could explain why, only that its the chefs decision.Beers are regularly out, even though they are listed on the menu. The wait staff changes constantly - weve never seen any of the same waiters twice, which we hear is because of high turnover. The food takes forever to be served. Last night after being seated, we waited 30 minutes for our drink orders to be taken while our waiter chatted with the bartender. Another night, we waited over an hour for our meals, only to learn that the waitress forgot to send the order to the kitchen. The proverbial straw last night was our desert...a flourless chocolate cake, which took another 30 minutes to be served. When it came, it looked like a few bites had already been eaten (see photo). Sure the edges could have crumbled off, but it shouldnt have been served like that. Its a shame that Putnams has taken a turn for the worse. Its no longer a reliable, tasty pub. Its a hot mess, and I dont think well be going back.
This is a nice bar/pub with trivia night during the week and bigger doings on weekend evenings. The food is good, they have an interesting selection of beer and wine. The wait staff is very attentive but sometimes they are not really informed and will have to come back to ask you what else youd like because they ran out of x beer, or y dish or z brand of bourbon.
Came in for a last minute event that a friend set up (previous venue became impossible due to weather problems). The management and staff were friendly and accommodating. The downstairs area is very nice and comfortable --- definitely romantic on some spots. Highly recommended for big events and also brunches.
This use to be my go to favorite place. But after the fire last year, service is lacking. The food was good but nothing was allowed to be changed with the new chef in charge. Before you had your choice of cheese on a hamburger, (which are currently used on other items) I was not allowed to change it from cheddar. Next my husband wanted it cooked medium, but nope that wasnt allowed. Another friend we were with wanted bacon, nope cant be added. So they have bacon pieces mixed in, but if a customer wants more and willing to pay, then why can a change be available? Ok, so even though we couldnt get exactly what we wanted the food is good which is why I gave 2 stars. What killed them is the horrible service. To begin I was asked if we had reservations because it was game night after 8 pm. We were there at 6:30 and they only had 1 table with a couple occupying it. Why in the world would it matter if we, with a kid and a baby, are there to eat?! Then when she took our order obviously everything from above was a no. She didnt ask for our drinks, but we gave it to her anyway. But she never brought them. 15 minutes in and we asked another waitress to get our drinks. The waitress never came and asked us about refills, we would ask whoever came by. We were not checked on at all. Still, only 1 other small group came in and were not asked about reservations. Then with the girl so worried about the stupid game night, you would think she would promptly bring the check when we were obviously done, had our jackets on and everything. No one came EVER! I personally walked up to the hostess stand and asked for our bill. We were less than 5 feet away and they couldnt bother to ask us anything. Absolutely ridiculous service! Completely unacceptable.
Why cant you keep steady bartenders. Over the years Ive only seen a couple faces more than once. And the menu, I understand seasonal changes or trying new things. But you are changing recipes on a weekly basis. One day its good 2 days later Im sending it back and walking our due to horrible service. Get it together. Not a good neighborhood spot, when there are so many other places around.
Let me say this, my lady ordered a burger medium, it came MEDIUM! that is truly rare these days. Service was fantastic, food was exquisite. The food theme fits prefect with the pub look. The drinks are great. My favorite part was the menu!! yes the menu! I hate super large three plus page menus! its prefect simple and fantastic. Its certainly allows them to focus more on the dish and influence on the theme. The Mac and cheese blew my mind, it was well presented, flavor was wonderful. Please do yourself a favor, go and find out!
The service that I experienced with my friend was less than satisfactory, yet it was late and my body needed some type of nourishment after giving a pre natal Thai massage. This was the only place offering a decent and healthy menu option. My homegirl and I both ordered the Shrimp Ramen Salad. Its a cold salad which would not have been so bad except cold noodles and warm shrimp was not a great temperature match for my taste buds especially on a brisk fall day. The waiter a red head fella with tattoos seemed frustrated at the jump. And when my friend took longer than what he perceived she should have taken, he rudely suggested she take more time and rushed off quickly. He was not attentive in the way he should have been. His bedside manner were just overall curt and cold. However, on another note, Ive been here for a few parties down in the remodeled cellar basement. The space, although small downstairs, has such a cool and rustic energy. Im not a drinker so I personally cant vow for the liquor, but my friends who do say that its decent. I will give Putnams another chance to see if I attract a better serving waiter/waitress. Ill give an update post on that experience.
Fantastic comfort food and drink. An all around gastro pub w a great beer and whiskey selection and seriously good hamburgers. Friendly for families and fellow drinkers. Nice dining deco and great outdoor seating in the summer. Staff is friendly and pleasant.Take your mom and dad for brunch and your friends for dinner and drinks.
Great food, very nice decor you can tell a lot of care went into the amenities of this gastropub. There is a center bar that sits in the middle of the restaurant and really nice hexagonal ceramic tiles on the floor with the monogram insignia in them.... Speakeasy style with long luscious booths that are roomy and country chic... The fresh cut fries are really addictive!I had a berry bourbon drink and it was potent!Great find and they have a party space to rent out downstairs with a separate bar and dj booth! A gem in Fort Greene!I had the salt and pepper shrimp and hot wings
Great beers in this awesome Clinton Hill pub. This was one of the first bars I visited when I moved to NYC. My server was so nice. Not only was she helpful with choosing beers and food, but she was really fun to talk to about her time in NY and the various jobs she had held in the city prior to working at Putnams. You wont be disappointed visiting this place. Snag a spot by the window where you have a great view of the bar and one of the TVs hanging on a wall.
Putnams is, as far as I can remember, a lovely place. The two Martinis I had were perfect. Bluecoat gin, perfectly balanced and I drank them while they were still laughing at me.I had come from from a wedding party so little after those two Martinis is memorable but I would surely recommend Putnams to any convivial soul in Brooklyn.
Solid, unpretentious local pub/restaurant where you can see the neighborhoods come together. Happy hour starts at 3pm! Try the Scotch Eggs, Lobster Mac & Cheese and their signature Putnam’s Burger — wash down with a local brew or seasonal cocktail. I look forward to coming back!
Weve been coming to Putnams for years, now -- even held our wedding after-party in their incredible cellar space. Always a fantastic experience (great staff, great food) Putnams has upped the ante with a fantastic bottomless brunch. For $30, you get a fantastic entree (tons of choices) and 90 minutes of mimosas, bloody marys, beer or a cocktail of the day. What has been a favorite happy hour / dinner spot for years has now become a favorite brunch spot, too.
Ordered a burger and was told that I couldnt make any subsitutions and could not specify the patty temperature, because the chef would only cook it his preferred way. It came out very rare, raw even. Seems weird to force the customer to eat super rare beef, because the chef prefers it. Server was okay, seemed fake nice, not genuine. Overpriced and pretentious.
Putnams is a staple of Clinton hill neighborhood, their kitchen is always reliable with good dishes. The avocado toast during brunch is amazing as well as their burgers and salads. Great oysters and cocktails for those lazy sundays and they also offer a great variety of wines and beers.Good atmosphere all around.Really recommended
Visited Putnams 3/26/18 for the umpteenth time because my many prior experiences have been, acceptable. The service wasnt always the best, the food was not to die for, however, its open late. It was my back-up.After my final visit last night, I will never return. Long story short...No waitress to greet us at the door, essentially, the greeter serves as waitress and/ bus person. The bar is usually busy, tables were open & available. Ordered first drink with greeter, the peach cocktail was (horrible) filled with ice, tasteless and weak. Youthful waitress arrived well...thats where the issues started. She was chipper (pretense) until I asked her about the menu, including the specials. The waitress was ill equipped to speak knowledgeably about the menu. The young waitress was a new employee. When describing the dishes she knew nothing about the entire menu. The fact that she became flustered and her embrassment showed. In fact, during our brief convo she took the menu out of my hands without asking. She was flustered, she went back and forth to her manager for ??.It became apparent to us that the waitress complained about my picky food questions. In no time flat Leslie, the hostile manager approached me (w/the earring in her eyebrow), The 2 incompetent waitresses complained that they felt uncomfortable! Wow..when did that happened?During our brief banter with the incompetent waitress (to cover her a*s), she complained that my comment about her love for food that she felt as thought I was calling her fat. Well, frankly, I was complimentin her, I realized she was young & inexperienced. The conversation we held was to try to get the waitress re-centered, focused on doing a good job. That was not to be. Leslie, became negative and aggressive. Any request I attempted to make (we were willing to pay with our earned money )was not recieved well. As a woman of African descent, I got the clear impression that my particular request for knowledge about the menu, a solid drink, or not closing our curtain would be well recieved. We were told we could finish our drinks, but, that we would not be served. Essentially, the misunderstanding was escalated. We decided that this was foolishness, we refused to accept the micro aggressive RACISM. We refused to accept this defensive cover-up to ruin our nite. We offered to pay our tab and depart Putnam.Reflection -The staff are poorly trained. The manager is a poor-trash bully (antagonist) who cowardly walked away after she made her statement about my comment. She never heard me out.The bar is where they make their money, thats why the tables were empty. It explains the bad food. This restaurant offers excuses instead of determining whats important to the customer. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.When you are a snowflake, customer service is not the industry for you. Become culturally astute, people from different cultures live in my neighborhood. This is my neighborhood, and I will apprise my community about this negative antoginisic experience. Im no country flower. I know when, Im being minimized, devalued, treated with double standards....Frankly, Ive live in the community for over 20 years...I will be at the restaurant (like Madiba) closing.
+++- Very good urban dedicated music on a Thursday night in the basement++- Drinks downstairs are good, mixed well, and inexpensive+- Great for friends to come, drink, and lounge. Nobody is VIP on a Thursday, so the VIP seating areas are first come first serve-- Not very many people (I left at midnight), so it might not be the kind of place to find a date for the night
Oh Putnams. It saddens me to leave this review, but I do it with hope that you can change your ways for the better. We have been in the neighbourhood for years, and Putnams has always been our go-to spot. No longer, unfortunately.Quality and service has been declining steadily since the fire, but our last experience (in mid-April) was incredibly disappointing. I could talk about how the burger has got smaller and less tasty, and has incrementally raised to an astronomical $18 (that’s prime steakhouse money!), or how our other favourite menu items have been scaled down and priced up. Or how the vegetable-less shepherds pie gave the three people who tried it the same uneasy feeling in their stomach. What brings me to this point is the meat and cheese plate that we were served. On the menu were some lovely-sounding cheeses and meats - their source or farm of origin listed in the selection. We were told that those were not available today, and were read an alternative list: “cheddar, blue, goat and Asiago... plus spicy salami and prosciutto” with no further description or information about the source. We chose five from the list, for $22.The cheese & charcuterie plate came and, no jokes, it all looked like it came straight from a grab-and-go container at Key Food. ORANGE CUBED CHEDDAR! It belonged in a kid’s lunchbox, not a gourmet cheese and charcuterie plate. The rest of our selection was equally poor and what’s more, there were no crackers, bread, fruit jelly... or anything to eat it with for that matter. This should be simple, delicious pub food - as it used to be. It shouldn’t be hard, and it definitely shouldn’t be this expensive. What’s more, with Putnams being one of the mainstays in the area, they are falsely raising the average price for decent food in the neighbourhood, and de-incentivising other restaurants to serve decent food at decent prices. We all lose out! Please Putnams, go back to your old ways or I fear you will enter a downward spiral from which you cannot recover. With Love
I was there to celebrate my bday with a group of 17 ppl. Had dinner which everyone enjoyed. The salmon was the groups fav.. A lil pricey but Im willing to pay for good food and Great service (A Must). After dinner we popped bottles in the downstairs lounge. The DJ was spinning some good rhythms that kept ppl dancing. You wont find better decor than in this underground lounge. Full bar on deck too. Second time here and definitely will be back.
This place has the wrong name it should be named burnt, gritty mitty, rubbery. The nerve to charge gratuity even if the service was freakin wack, no etiquette at all. Gordon ramsey and john taffer need to pay a visit to this horrible place!!!!. Management did not make the issue any better . The price for food is dirt high like the food dirt bad. I will never recommend this place not even in a tsunami. Im going to call the food inspector as well as gordon and john so they can learn food service etiquette and customer service.

2022-05-29Happened upon this place through a Google search: wanted to find a spot that was a pub in Brooklyn and not in Manhattan. Decided to make it a group outing with The Crew. Reservations are recommended. We had a choice of seating arrangements. Service started out slow, but eventually it picked up.All the food we tried was fresh and simple (not overly complicated). Salmon on their salad had crispy skin along with the roasted chicken (you dont really see that often anywhere). Mac n cheese was also another hit. Other highlights were the cheeseburger spring rolls, braised short rib (comes apart like nothing), and the lava chocolate cake. Drinks were on point too. Can get a bit pricey though, so beware of that. Definitely gotta come back to try other things on menu. Thanks again for a great time.

2022-06-03Nice spot for lunch in the Fort Greene area. Perfect if you need a spot to grab a bite and discuss business. Server was very kind, but the speed of service was very slow today. It took over 30 minutes for us to get out food and the restaurant was maybe only 1/8 at full capacity. I do know there were only two servers for the afternoon shift though, so it may have been a scheduling thing. Food is decent here, I had the Caesar salad which seemed to be missing parmesan and lemon and a good amount of pepper, but it was tasty once those things were added. It was nice of them to fry my chicken for the top though I know its not normally on the menu. The crispy artichoke salad was very good as well. The lemonade here was a bit too tart for my friends, they had to add some grenadine to tone it down.

2022-04-19Wasn’t crazy about the food. The bar didn’t have any tequila or vodka which is weird for “Bar”… my sister ordered the fried chicken. Terrible mistake. And she ordered a drink that came half full. The fries were traaaaaash. I loved they allowed the dog to come in with us so that was the best perk. Won’t be back though

2021-08-22The Food wasn’t the best but they made up for it in service. Really nice local place to grab a bite or a drink. I think of the bread was a bit softer or they offered some kind of picture it would help customers know that their food would look like but overall pretty good 😊

2022-01-08My friends and I came here on a Saturday afternoon for their bottomless bunch, and the staff was amazing. Our server, Kim, was exTREMELY patient with our extrEMELY difficult friend who sent her order back maybe 3-4 times? Kim kept a positive attitude and assured that we were no bother (although I’m sure we were lol). Before leaving, we met Matt, Tia, and Minah, who were all very kind and funny. As locals, they gave us places to visit and honestly just tolerated my friends and I for a good hour after we’d already finished eating, haha. Overall, lovely staff. 11/10. Makes up for the food which I’ll give 7/10. But maybe it’s just because we’re from the south and nothing compares!

2021-04-08The online order and check system feels very fast and smooth! Max n cheese tastes quite good with a hint of truffle flavor on top. Although Bloody Mary feels like drinking diced tomato in water, the elements inside didn’t blend in well and beer tastes a bit flat. Putnam burger was cooked a bit over so it tastes dry even though I ordered medium. Very friendly to dogs.

2022-03-22Love this place! Very friendly staff. Great food, really good fries if you’re a fries lover like me! And warm ambience. Not too loud or busy when we went, just perfect. There is also a rewards / points program, so signed up for that because I know we will be back!

2022-05-213 out of 5 instead of 5 out of 5 for one reason only: the waitress. The food was some of the best pub food Ive had. All of us at the table had a delicious meal. Atmosphere is really cute without the overt Irish pub look. It makes me mad our entire experience was ruined by our outrageously terrible waitress. She left us waiting for service for over 20 mins. When she finally came over after me asking if someone was assigned to our table the first thing she said was you guys need to hurry because the kitchen is closing. Well we wouldnt have had to worry if we got our order taken. When I responded and said, we would have liked to place our order sooner. We were waiting for over 20 min. She clapped back and told me she seriously doubts it was that long. Really? It takes a lot for me to complain about anything. 2 of the 3 people I was with have been in The restaurant industry for years and were appalled at her attitude. She never said another word to us. I would absolutely love to go back for the delicious food but probably wont due to this lady.

2021-05-29Went here for brunch. They use a website so you can order your food straight from your phone. Love this concept. This is great especially for big parties. You don’t have to worry about splitting checks. Great idea! The eggs Benedict was amazing. I had to add salt and pepper to elevate it. The salmon was cooked to perfection. Everyone else seemed to love their food. Service was great! I definitely would recommend. I would give them 5 stars but my mimosas could have been filled quicker.
