Its an okay club but why I have to give it one star is because of the bouncer! We had an emergency situation (hypothermia - it was 12°F outside) and the person was in distress. The bouncer (younger if the two on the 29th/30th of January) refused to allow us to be inside the heated building until help arrived. A business is responsible for its employees.
The Pyramid used to be (b4 the pandemic) the best place to enjoy music from the 80s dance and have some drinks in a nice atmosphere,,,they just reopen a couple of weeks ago with a different DJ which is the reason Im giving them 1 star. Music is fine, people like it, problem is mr dj plays about 40 secs of each song, transition from one song to another is terrible, CONSTANTLY he shuts down the volume in the middle of the song expecting for people to sing that part of the song, etc etc awful. Im looking forward to them fixing it. Bartenders r awesome
Crazy place. Definitely falls into the category of a dive bar. But its a very friendly place with a bunch of characters. Its not tiny, but on the smaller side. Still has a nice sized dance floor in the back. Its an 80s themed bar and plays mainly music from that decade (with some from the late 70s and early 90s). They have a loyal crowd and they seem to care about their customers. Went on a Saturday night. It got crowded, but never felt overcrowded. There was an $8 cover charge 🤷♂️. Drink prices were reasonable. Not the greatest beer selection, but they have all the liquors. Everything served in disposable cups or plastic pint glasses.
Went here once before and was amazing. Tried to come again tonight and the security guard was so rude. He had a hat and just kept smoking while talking to us. Wouldnt let us in as a group, was sort of racist and then went on tinder after we refused to go in and left. Happy I didnt go there again and probably wont go back ever.
Very unimpressed. Went on 80s night and while the DJ was good, the drinks were mediocre and the staff was incredibly rude. A lost coat check ticket issue turned into an usher grabbing my arm and bruising me (with no cause other than my heading towards the bathroom). The managerial staff was harsh and not at all understanding. Typically, as someone who does coat check often, my explanation of an item and the contents of the items inside is enough. Instead, I’m left (LITERALLY) bruised and embarrassed. I loved the music and the vibe, but I wish they would hire different staff.
Ive been to this club before and had a great time but tonight the bouncer who checks IDs in front was extremely rude and mentioned something about us not speaking English when our group was just trying to figure out payment of the cover charge. It seemed like he had some issue with us from the start and seemed racist so we ended up not going in tonight. The owner should figure out if this person is someone they want to keep working there or if rudeness and ignorance is a quality they support. We went there on August 10, 2019 at 3am.
Had a super fun night , until I realized my purse had been opened and my phone stolen , even though i had it closed and with me all the time. As I reported it to security , the guy couldn’t care less, and gave me the impression that happened often there. Be aware! Such a shame, loved going there, but not a safe place. Don’t know what the thief will do with a completely locked phone , as I immediately reported it to the carrier and had it blocked for good .
This is where I celebrated my 40th birthday, best birthday ever since my sweet sixteenth... We did a private event at the Pyramid Club, friends and family all loved it. I was amazed at how so many different personalities just ended up having such a great time, and I am pretty sure it had to do with the great DJ. Maria, the manager, helped guide us through all the considerations to ensure we had a perfect night. Numerous guests commented on what a great venue this is and couldnt wait to come back on a regular night... The entire staff was amazing, catering to our every need and so gracious with all our guests even some of us who had a bit too much to drink towards the end :) If I had to celebrate that day all over again I would not change a thing... In short this place is FIVE STARS all the way!Kat & Philip
Really a great club to go to. They do have a $3 cover charge which is minimal and keep in mind they are a cash only bar. The music was in the 80s and a nice separate dance floor. Overall a great experience and not that costly at all.P.S. They had dancers on the window and inside in a stage when we went in.
This place is simply amazing. Went here with friends, my boyfriend and alone and everytime had a great time. The vibe is amazing. Everyone is having fun and the 80s hits make everyone go to the dance floor. A lot of young people dressed in any type of fashion. Cant come back to NYC and miss this place. Also check the downstairs area for electronic music and some sort of a more mysterious vibe.Drinks are NY price. but theres free water to help you not to get too drunk. The spot is kinda far from the train station but you can always take a cab.
Great music, except sucks, when the bartender decides to overcharge for the drinks at $20 for a Titos club. I have been there before, a few times and had a blast downstairs, during their goth events, and was always only charged $8-$15 per drink. Last weekend, went on Sunday before Presidents day, as an after an event dive bar, it was empty when I first got there, and then after I ordered my drinks went to pay and the bartender said $20 I asked what? Are you sure? I was just given a blank stare so i paid my $40 for two Titos club drinks, shortly after they started getting more people and low and behold, they decided not to close in 30 minutes, as I was told, left anyway since was being over-charged. The DJ was ok, but the hike in prices for drinks, at randomness, should stop, its a buzzkill, they did the same to a friend of mine, that went there and he quickly left, after he told me he was treated rudely by the bartender that also charged him $20 per drink.
I had a blast! This is my favorite dance bar in NYC. A true dive bar. A bunch of fellow weirdos reliving the 80s. Loud enough sound system and dj playing 80s some rarities and the hits while the downstairs dj played 70s disco and some punk. Downstairs bathrooms had recently been remodeled and were really clean. Decor is battered walls covered in fan tribute 80s paintings and flyers. Good standard drinks served in lil plastic cups. Average price drinks for Manhattan. The bartenders were all really nice especially Franchesca. My experience with the bouncer. When I entered the bar after I showed the bouncer my ID I was in line to pay the cashier and a woman cut in front of me and the bouncer saw this and spoke up for me to the cashier and said hey shes next!
They were supposed to have an event with a list of special amenities and games that night when we arrived the bartender had told me they forgot wires for the Tvs so half the venue was virtually empty. Djs were good only half the time. Dancers were also pretty lackluster. Cheap drinks and the occasional good song keeps this place at two stars for me. If you are gonna have a cover charge for an event make sure you come through with your word....
Had a really good time here on a Saturday night, with 80’s dance music playing. The renowned nightclub has a unique charm and fun ambience. I bought a ginger whiskey for $6 and a berry ciroc with cranberry for $9, which is fair for NY lol. Staff is super friendly and attentive.
Ok, Take this with with a large heaping of salt but I loved this place. Being a child of the 80’s I totally loved the music. The bar is nothing to brag about but God how I loved the mix of Wham, Whitney, Ah Ha, the Cure and Duran Duran without being inside my car. Can’t wait to go back.
Hi, My name is Fred. I was one of the door guys at Berlin in the early 80’s. When the Pyramid had a fire and was closed for a little while I always let their employees in, what was known back then as club courtesy. We would go there for happy hour and I would bring my friends from Queens who freaked out when they had the dancers on the bar. They ended up loving the place. I’m in Los Angeles now but we’ll get back to hang at the coolest club in the city hopefully very soon. Take care, Fred

I had plans with my friends for a hardcore dance night and thats what we got when we went there. The atmosphere and decor is what it was ment to be. Its a club, not a 5 star restaurant. I didnt have too much interaction with the bartender but so far she was ok. Over all i came to dance and thats what i got....GREAT music. Up AND downstairs! I felt at home. Cant wait to go back!
Played shows here multiple times in the past, tonight I was assaulted by the security guard and the “owner” an hour after paying to get in under the pretext that I wasn’t stamped. A larger man with fading hair insisted I couldn’t be allowed back in. This may seem pedantic, but it’s upsetting when people are so money hungry they would rather create scenarios to extort an extra $8 than exude any breadth of professionalism. It’s especially pathetic when the last good place to dance on the east side is managed by a group of losers with such lack of vision they taint decade long customers with some store tactics. RIP Pyramid
Loved it. barely changed in 30 yrs. tune selection not quite as perfectly hip but good enough. didnt see any skinheads or mohawks or dog collars or big army boots.no transvestites on the bar, no hardcore porn on video screens in the downstairs lounge. other than that -- almost completely unchanged. sound system still dynamite. had a blast.
Four stars more for nostalgia. Of all the places I grew up in New York city going to- its the Pyramid of all places that is still around.A standard go to for Saturday nights- I havent really been a big fan of the basement area since it was redone (looks a bit too much like a doctors office). You always know what to expect here- unpretentious mixed crowd upstairs.
Best place to go dancing in the East Village. I first went here in 2004 and still divey and reminder of the NYC of yesteryear. The music is 80s and usually on Friday and Saturdays; but they usually have different music in the basement-goth, industrial, dark electro, or live bands. The crowd is always unpretentious and great people watching. I love the Pyramid Club and always go if in the area!
Ive been here 2x now and I like this place. I will come and stay here to dance anything off. The music is great, totally awesome. I went to the madonnathon yesterday and danced and drank and was just so chill and didnt care if I danced good or not. I just had fun. How come I didnt know about this place before. Must, must check it out. Its all about the music. And the place too. ;)
The female bartender downstairs with the half shaved head (and I’m not “labeling” her; I’m literally trying to be as descriptive as possible so this is apparent) was the RUDEST person I’ve ever met. She wasn’t taking anybody’s order at an extremely empty bar, and when asked if we can get a drink she tried to say we were “coming at her”. Threw our money back in our faces; cursed us off, and overall just acted extremely psychotic and unprofessional.
Extremely unprofessional bouncer. Was a regular here, but after an event involving this bouncer, and then reaching out to management and giving them 4 weeks to react to the situation, but receiving no apology, I am leaving this review. Many other places to frequent in the area for better prices, atmosphere, and service. Beware.
First time I visited The iconic Pyramid club, was in 1987, along with other great clubs within walking distance at the time, it was truly part of the imperative goth/freak experience back in the day. A very long club, as in most of the clubs were back then, it goes longwise into a bar to a dance/performing area at the back. Im amazed to see it still is open after such a long existence, as opposed to the mass closing of some really defining old haunts of mine like CBGBs, The Bank, The Mission, and of course Limelight.I doubt I will be returning to New New York in the future, as it is all memory to me now, and to be honest? With my last memories of Grindhouse row in Times Square becoming what it has, all of what kept me enrapt with NYC has now been lost. I suppose, for those of you that wish to at least experience what is left of the underground fare, it might be worth it just to say you had been there.
I was refused entry after the organizer and bouncer saw me cover my face with a bandana (I was sick and coughing), even though I obliged to the request of removing my bandana for identification purposes. This gives me the impression that this place turns away any Rivetheads or Cybergoths with face coverings, such as respirators or other forms of face masks. Its no wonder why DefCon seem so dead all the time.
I love this place and have been coming regularly. I just recently noticed that the left side of the bar charges me 12 for greygoose with club soda and right side of bar charges me 10. ????. I always order the same drink so i dont really know why. Wont stop me from coming but just pointing it out
Kicked out onto the street while actively attempting to contact my ride. After paying the cover fee, and in the city for my first time, my friends left to get food without telling me. I was calling them to see where they were, and was kicked onto the street for loitering in the hallway. I was left on the street in an unknown city with no concern for my health or safety despite my attempts to have a civilized conversation with the staff (bouncer).
I came here with some friends because we wanted to track down a dance club. Well, yes, technically there was dancing. However the only one dancing was someone dressed like Billy Idol on a platform in the chilly dance floor room, which was empty and filled only with smoke. We left sad.
The bancers a fat white guy and and black guy with dirty hair, was arguing with nice young men Saturday the 28, at 330. In the morning i seen the whole thing the black bouncer was starting fights with people passing by any random guy i have a recording of the whole thing he should be fired the place is awsome but the security is not in there place calling people racist terms and the fat security spit on a guy with out him looking please do something about this.

2022-05-07Im a fan of 80s and dance music first and foremost. I came to this club by myself because why not. I walked in and the bouncer was extremely rude for no reason. English isnt my first language so I didnt understand him clearly when I asked him if he had change for a $20 for the $5 cover charge. He was extremely rude. Secondly, i am Puerto Rican and I was racially profiled the moment I walked into this club.i did not feel comfortable at all because the bouncers kept on staying at me the half hour I was in there. Plus drinks were extremely expensive and WEAK.

2022-03-08Pyramid was the best club in NYC to dance on 80s tunes. The place was far from being fancy, but the dance floor was always packed with great dancers! Deeply missed 🕺

2022-05-26I dont need a paranoid Asian woman to question me as to WHY i was taking a photo of the new storefront. If this is how you treat people, you will not be welcome in this neighborhood. This old pyramid was better with a more friendlier door people.

2022-05-15Owner needs to get new security. Dude at the door is incredible rude and ignorant. Wouldnt let my party in because a dude we were with had the Johnson and Johnson vaccine and the dose was put on the other line. He stated it had to be on the 1st dose line.. but its a SINGLE vaccine... There is no 2nd dose. He was incredibly rude and ignorant and wouldnt let us show him proof of the vaccine and explain that there is only one dose for the j&j. He was also rude to my girlfriend and me coming in. Needs to learn people skills and to stop driving loyal customers from pre covid away. Used to love this place.

2022-05-14I used to love this place before COVID. Last night the bouncer wouldn’t let me in because he said my vaccine card wasn’t legit. Im Vaxxed and boosted. He was extremely rude about everything and seemed to just be getting his anger out on me. Looking at the reviews it seems that management needs to get new bouncers that aren’t on power trips. Such a disappointment.

2022-05-28Used to frequent this place til they closed down due to the pandemic. I was excited to hear they opened back up - and arranged to go with 6 of my friends. This place is openly discriminating, and did not allow one of my party in. I cannot support this. Kinda hope they go out of business for good next time. F U, illuminati club.

2022-05-16Don’t go here! The bouncer is the worst! If you are looking to have a good experience, I highly recommend taking your business elsewhere! It is a shame. I used to love this place.

2022-04-30The bar door man checking ID’s was the worst. He acted like he owned the place and was very rude and aggressive. For being on vacation with money to spend I’m glad I took my business elsewhere.

2021-09-27The absolute best dancing spot in NYC. 80s music all night long— it’s not uncommon to hear Prince, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, and Madonna in one night. She’s not a fancy club, but she’s the best one around.
