Dr.Methany is probably the most attentive and knowledgeable vet in the whole borough. The fact she actually cares about her pet patients is a bonus. I would highly recommend. The reason for the 3 stars are the rude receptionist at the front desk who throw attitude from doing anything from accepting payment to answering questions. Its a shame that an otherwise exemplary practice is brought down by the people who contribute the least to its operations.
The doctors at Quality Vet Care have taken care if my cats for years. They are all very knowledgeable and caring. The support staff are kind and always willing to work out appointment times in emerging situations. Even while many are overlooking Covid precautions this office still takes the it very seriously protecting themselves, their clients and their animal patients. Kudos!
We rescued our dog 3 years ago and Dr. Perez has treated Milo with great care. The staff are professional and compassionate. We know that we are in good hands. Milo has developed a few health issues over the years. We appreciate their diligence in giving Milo the best quality of life.
It really saddens me to write a terrible review of the veterinary practice that has been taking care of our black lab for 12 years. I am extremely upset at the lack of concern the veterinarian showed during the last visit with our dog. We live less than 5 min walk from this clinic and have been taking our dog—Baker to this clinic since he was 8 weeks old.I no longer live with my parents, but they have called me a few times concern about a cough they have noticed on Baker—he is now 12 years of age. As a veterinary specialist (I am a veterinary oncologist) I told them the next step would be to take chest x-rays to make sure nothing scary is going on (primary reason why older dogs get coughs can include things like nerve issues-LARPAR, pneumonia, spread of cancer to the lungs). Also the standard of care is to take chest x-rays at least once a year as an old dog screening—that is what we learn in vet school, it is how proper primary care veterinarians practice. My brother who lives with my parents called to make sure they were aware of the coughing issue and that we wanted chest x-rays taken.Turns out the veterinarian knew exactly why our dog elderly dog was coughing—he explained that Baker has allergies and that we should place him on some relatively high dose of Benadryl and declined to get x-rays of him. I wish I had these magical skills to just know what is going on without having to run tests. The reason we made the appointment for general health visit and x-rays for the cough.Coughing is a rare presentation for allergies in both people and dogs. Dogs with allergies can have coughing, however, is a lot less likely than other reasons. Sometimes dog cough and we never find out why, but a smart individual would rule out more common reasons for coughing before prescribing/recommending something like Benadryl. This is how scary things are missed.I can not help but think the veterinary was trying to get through appointments and decided to assuage our concerns by basically lying and blaming the problem on allergies. We would have been very understanding if they told us “ we are busy/do not have the time or staff to get x-rays, in the mean time while waiting for the next appointment let’s try some Benadryl as it may help, won’t harm.” Sometimes you can not do everything in one visit, I sympathize. What I can not sympathize with is the lying and lack of concern. What upsets me is that many other pet parents who are not medical professionals may not pick up on the blatant BS. Previously I have had only one other eyebrow raising moment when I had to remind the veterinarian to do a rectal exam on Baker. That again, is standard of care in vet and human medicine for older males. I called to try and speak with the veterinarian who saw Baker so they could explain to me why the x-rays were not taken, I really wanted to understand the reasoning for that. No replies. In summary, there are multiple veterinary clinics in the area. I have recommended to my parents to try another veterinarian as the ones at “quality” vet care of Elmont are not practicing good quality medicine.
I was unhappy with my previous choice of veterinarian so I gave this place a try. By far the staff at this place is very warm, welcoming, and professional. They answered all my questions and let me know that I can always speak to the Doctor and let them know about any budgetary issues and they would work with me. The Doctor spoke to me clearly and explained all my options to give my dog the best treatment possible. Would definitely recommend to anyone in need of veterinary care for their four legged friends.
Dr Metheny is the absolute best. She’s patient, knowledgeable, she always has a smile on her face (even under the mask) takes the time to explain all so I fully understand what’s going on and how to care for my dog. My dog feels most comfortable with Dr Metheny and that puts me at ease as well. She really cares for our furry kids. Thank you Dr Metheny for being the best vet to Yoda & being so patient with his mommy ;)
It was by chance and divine intervention that we chose Quality Vet. After a misdiagnosis from our (then) regular vet, we had to say good bye to our dear cat, Luke. I had to find a new vetinarian and I also refused to say my last goodbye to my cat in the parking lot, as some other vets were requiring because of Covid.Quality Veterinary Care were full of compassion and did not rush us at all during our last moments with Luke. They even sent us a condolence card signed by the whole office. We will be switching our other cats care to this vetinarian after the compassionate experience here (and our horrible care at the other vet)
We brought our puppy, Lucy, for her very first vet visit. She loves the staff and the staff love her as well. The doctor was very informative and he discussed everything that’s going on with Lucy, thank goodness she’s healthy. And thank God we went there because they really care for your pets! Loved our very first vet experience.
I went in to vaccinate 2 of my cats for rabies & distemper & after a day, both of them started limping, werent eating & were meowing in distress..Even today, 1 week later, my cats are meowing while looking into my eyes while limping on a leg they didnt even get a shot in!!I took my other two cats to another vet clinic in queens, & they got even more medication & vaccines, but it turns out, they only lost appetite for one day, but after that, they were the same as they always were! Running, jumping, playing, giving kisses & eating alot!!My other two cats that I took into the Qaulity veterinary care clinic, are still sick & laying down all day, not wanting to eat anything but treats, arent playing & are meowing in a way they never usually meow unless they are distressed....I dont want to take them back here because they charge an arm and a leg for even the most basic things!!! I feel like the value they offer is not in proportion they amount of money you pay! The service is extremely suboptimal.I would not reccommend to take your companions this place, I would only ever take them here if its a pure emergency only because this is the clinic closest to me house.
There should be an option for ZERO stars! My family had been using this vet for approximately 20 years (since their earlier location). Most experiences were positive, except for several in the last few years. The final experience was extremely disappointing to say the least. We will not be returning to this office. I would suggest a few things to anyone thinking of bringing their pet here. First, it would be advisable to get anything they are recommending as the course of treatment in WRITING This is customary at most other vets, which provide a course of steps and prices for each step (and they explain you might not need all the steps- depending on how pet responds to treatment). Also, if you pet has an X-ray taken ensure your name/pets name appears on it. This is also been shown to be the case at my new vet. I brought a pet in for a simple issue, and the vet (who I understand owns the business) immediately escalated the course of care which started with an X-ray, blood test, and an injection- which I learned after the fact was an opposite med for the symptom I had described! I was charged $420. Before I left, tech (who seems to offer his opinions more than the Dr) broke the spring latch on my carrier and then wanted to try to glue the moving part to repair it before I left (what?!). In hindsight, my carrier should have been replaced by them or at the very least given a sincere apology. Pet did not improve. I called back next day and a different (well meaning) Dr read the chart and started telling me we needed more blood tests and a course of treatment for a completely different issue they now said my pet developed (which coincidentally, I heard on the last pet I brought in!). I told this Dr what I had brought pet in for (a simple, common issue) and was then told to hold on while the X-ray was reread. I was told that the X-ray DID NOT EVEN SHOW THE AREA OF THE ISSUE. I was told to come back for a free retake of the X-ray. I refused, and explained again what the original issue was, and said I do not understand why it escalated to the first X-ray. I was then told to come in for a medication (which I was charged a very minimal amount- I feel that should have been waived considering the X-ray blunder) and told to administer it 3x a day until problem resolved. While I was there I asked to speak to the original Dr (he is off) and was told a different vet would speak to me- then 15 mins later to sorry, he suited up for surgery, cant talk now, Pet received one dose, 20 mins later, issue resolved! I had my credit card company open a dispute (I allowed the visit charge, because I did choose this office). This dispute was never even answered by Quality Vet despite being given months to respond, and I was not held accountable for any of these charges. Lesson learned.*** Get the intended course of care in writing BEFORE treatment begins and have them explain what each step is for. Please beware of unnecessary testing and meds.I found a fantastic vet in the next town, who although charges slightly more for initial visit, is worth his weight in GOLD, as my pets now get real, compassionate care now. I have several pets that are now his patients and 100% completely satisfied with the care they received as well as the charges for the visits/tests/meds.
I recently went to a doctor to address some issues i have been having with my snake. The staff were extremely friendly and the doctor was very informative and gave realistic suggestions to help my snake. They did not over charge. I have had nothing but good experiences here.
I am surprised at the very high rating of this clinic and took my dog there based on these reviews. But I think these reviews are based on the owner of the establishment. There are currently 4 doctors working there. I brought my pet there twice. Once last year for a general check up. My mom who was with me encouraged me to go to another clinic for his tests and vaccines. I took her advice. This year, having spent a ton of money on my dog and other things, I decided to give this clinic another try. Big mistake. My dog was stuck four times for a heartworm test. I have never heard my dog scream and yelp like that before. The tech stuck him twice and was unable to get it. He tried to tell me it wasnt as painful as it looked. Im a respiratory therapist and draw arterial blood regularly and know which areas of the body are painful when stuck, especially if you cant get the blood. When I disagreed with him, he gave me a sassy, dismissive response and left. I asked for the doctor, who had examined him for about 10 minutes after I waited for almost an hour. The doctor was very polite and professional. Also, there was another tech who had brought me in, but didnt handle my dog who was very sweet, polite and empathetic. A Hispanic male with dark hair. Anyway, the doctor then stuck my dog another 2 times, barely getting enough blood to do the test. I asked him to withdraw the needle because I didnt want any damage to my dogs vein or any nearby nerves. He was able to milk the butterfly needle for enough blood to run the test. Thank God. My dog was tortured and traumatized. His paws were also very sore and a little swollen for days. He still doesnt want me to touch them. I would not only not return, but would never recommend this clinic to anyone. The staff is mostly friendly. But friendly does not compensate for not knowing what youre doing clinically. My dog is 10 yrs old and has had several blood draws. It has never taken 4 sticks to get his blood. But then again, it has always been done by doctors. Heartworm tests should be done by the doctors, who know anatomy. I hope the owner will see this and consider making blood draws solely the practice of the doctors. If the doctor who examined my dog was getting regular practice at work, he would have gotten the stick on the first try. On both visits, both the doctors only spent 10 minutes with me and my dog. I think they can spend an extra 5 minutes to do the blood draws and spare their patients undue pain and trauma.
I have come here with both of my dogs (Pomsky and Blue Nose -Shar Pei mix). The staff is wonderful. I have never had a negative experience with this office. Staff is knowledgable. My Blue Nose - Shar Pei mix can be a bit challenging and they do not shy away. They take the proper precautions and are able to treat him. My family tried a different practice closer to home, but we couldnt deny the care taken here and came back !
I don’t know if the vets changed but this place was negligent in treating my dog. He went because he had been experiencing pain in his facial area. They didn’t suggest any sort of x-ray/mri. They just removed warts and did other unnecessary procedures. After thousands of dollars were spent (and no mention of an X-ray to see why he was experiencing pain) my dog still was suffering. We took him to a holistic vet and she sent us to get a MRI. My dog ended up having a tumor in his face. Thankfully it was removed and he will be fine .
Always loved them. Used Dr. Melrose but wasnt around much. In December my Lola was sick. I had just lost my dog Rico. I mentioned to the assistant and the Dr. That Lola was deaf and never knew it because she followed Ricks lead. I was ridiculed by both and was told she wasnt deaf. I took her to another vet and sure enough, completely deaf. She has since passed and I got a little chi. Needless to say I now go elsewhere
My cat had to be put to sleep and they said they would make a copy of her paw prints and mail it to me. She died 13 days ago. The excuse is they need the Dr to sign a condolence card. I guess there are no Drs that work there in the last two weeks. Who is there then? Very disappointed.
Worst Veterinary Clinic out there, if you want your pets actually cared for? I suggest you go else where because the only thing youll get out these people is them taking your money and your problem worse than it was or even worse your pet will be dead like mine. SO save yourself the trouble and money and pain. Just take your pet to someone who genuinely cares and can actually diagnose an illness and treat it because my six year old cat shouldnt be dead, thanks for your QUALITY service.
We called to take our extremely sick dog but were told not to come. She said she had a room full of patients and didnt have the time. He hadnt eaten in two days, we were beside ourselves. Update: HGC which could have killed him in a couple of hours. Thanks for nothing. For shame.
HORRIBLE!!! PLEASE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR THE CARE OF YOUR PETS, THIS PLACE IS VERY MONEY HUNGRY AND WILL NOT TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR ANIMALS. UNLICENSED TECHNICIANS THAT DO NOT HAVE THE PROPER EDUCATION ARE PERFORMING DENTALS ON YOUR PETS, MONITORING THEIR ANESTHESIA. MANAGEMENT IS EVEN WORSE.

2021-07-06I waited a week for an appointment for my cat to be checked out. Got there on time for my 5:15 PM appointment. When i arrived i was told i needed to wear a mask. I replied i didnt bring a mask then asked can you provide one to me. The Woman replied i dont have one. We know that was a lie. 10 minutes later another woman came out from the back and said you need to wear a mask or you must leave now . I informed her that i asked for one and was refused. She asked who told me that. I gladly pointed her out. I was then provided a mask. The CDC no longer requires masks along with the state of New York, However this establishment imposes their totalitarian will on us and if you wont comply they threaten no service for your sick and loved pet.I waited to be seen for 1 hour and 20 minutes while four people that arrived after i checked in were taken before me. One was an Emergencythat i completely understood but the three others were not. I made a last effort to be seen and was ignored. Then i Picked up my cat and walked out NEVER TO RETURN. If you love your animal and want the best for them DONT EVER COME TO QUALITY VETERINARY CARE in Elmont NY.

2022-02-22I do not recommend this place they are very rude and racist, My dog had an appointment here, I went inside and told the receptionist that we have an appointment to draw blood and if it’s ok for me to bring him in, she blatantly ignored me. Instead of jumping to conclusions I waited, I thought to myself there is no way she could be this rude maybe she went to check his file or something. After standing there for about 10 minutes being completely ignored by the staff. I said politely “I’m sorry I’m a bit confuse can someone explain to me what’s going on I’ve been standing here without any form of help” her response was so aggressive and dismissive as if I’m a bother I felt so embarrassed. I hate to bring the race card Into this but I’ve seen these people treat others who are not my skin color much better, their tone of voice is completely different and welcoming. Needless to say I will not return here I will go else where, where my dog and I are welcomed

2022-05-17We have been coming here for many years and have always had a wonderful experience. This past time, we had Dr. Metheny and she could not have been any more wonderful! She was patient, explained everything, did not try to sell us on procedures, etc. She was compassionate, which was very much appreciated as our older dogs are starting to decline. She called our house the next day with blood results and took her time explaining the results and answering my questions. Everything was well handled from start to finish.UPDATE - 5/17/22 - Unfortunately, we had to euthanize our 13 year old dog. Everyone at Quality was so compassionate during an extremely upsetting time in our lives. Dr. Metheny explained the process, gave us time with Madison before and after and the desk staff made sure we were alone when leaving (no customers standing by desk). We cant say enough good things about Quality and their staff.

2022-05-16Brought my cat in on September of 2021. She was given medication for high whiteblood cell count which was a misdiagnosis. Forward to 2022 May she started to get swelling in the abdomen area. I brought her in for another check up and they found that it was pyometra. The next day I brought her in for surgery.I was told all went well. The next day I picked my cat up I was given a sheet with instructions for her care to follow. There was a gauze bandaid wrapped around her arm when they gave her back to me. No one mentioned this.Over the first day home she wasn’t eating much or drinking. So I let the vet know the next day and I brought her in for iv fluids etc. When I brought her in they told me I was supposed to take the bandaid off 10 mins after she got home. The bandaid was wrapped so tight it caused her paw to swell 2x the size of her other paw. They gave her fluids and sent me on my way on Friday. On Sunday night her health started to decline. At around 3am Monday she was sleeping. I woke up at 8am a few inches away from the same spot passed away.I truly don’t know if the surgery went well I believe she still had an infection inside of her. But I will never truly know.Surgery was on Wednesday 5/11 and her death was on 5/16.
