(Review copied from my Yelp account from December 2012)After hearing how fun archery is from friends whove come here, I purchased a Google Offer ($15 for an archery lesson & equipment rental). And after procrastinating a few months, I called to make reservations and was able to get in 2 weeks before the deal would expire (September 2012).My friends and I arrived early and filled out some paperwork, then sat at a waiting/eating area. There is a shelf off to the side where you can place your bags and coats. The space was open, with two ranges separated by a wall. We were placed in a group on one side with about 16 people (8 pairs). The lesson lasted about 30 minutes. Our instructor, Mike, was friendly, funny, and very informative. I was very nervous, but he was very thorough with his instructions and showed us what to do. He even helped us take pictures. We were given over an hour to shoot from different distances. We also received $10 credit towards our next visit.Overall, it was a fun experience! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wanted to try something inexpensive and fun.
Just went there for my first lesson, very positive experience, instructor was very nice and funny, explained in details, I have learned a lot just from 1 session, 1.30 is plenty of time, rental bows were good, some arrows were a bit crooked, but for the first time just fine. I would definitely recommend, very different experience.
Queens Archery is wonderful. I travel between them an another archery place located in Brooklyn. Both are nice BUT when I come to Queens Archery I feel welcomed and at home. The owners are nice and knowledgeable. That is not the selling point, what is? Their archer community is great and diverse. Family friendly and exciting for people dating (from what I see, I’m married with children, lol.) The ages range from old timers to youngsters who love the sport. They all are willing to share their experience in Archery. Queens Archery is not just trying to sell you gear or just take your money.
It was a great time. the instructor was very funny, and a lot of help. Their great at answering all your questions and helping you feel relaxed on the range. my only issued i had was waiting for everyone to finish shooting before i could retrieve my arrows and shot again, but it was to keep everyone safe. Ill being going back for the fun and the prices are not bad at all
If i could give zero stars i would. I spoke to a caveman named AL on the phone, who told me that my fiancée “wouldn’t be able to use my bow(which she has used elsewhere in the past), because a WOMAN can’t pull an 80lb compound bow” and we would have to rent her a beginner bow, her own lane, and a lesson(totally disregarding that she already knows how to shoot). He’s a sexist loser, and he should come meet some of my female martial arts students if he thinks women are so incapable.i immediately canceled my reservation.sadly, this is not paraphrased, ill never go there.
This place is very nice and friendly, for this specific place I found it more comfortable to come with friends, at least for the first time. It was a little bit upsetting that they made me take the intro course again even though I have taken it before, but that might have been because I was with a group of begginers. The instructor was friendly and patient, but he also gave us a lot of freedom to figure it out on our own. Its a fun experience overall, but dont expect a fancy place, its pretty much just set up for shooting arrows and not designed to look nice.
My husband and I genuinely enjoy trying new things here in the city. We decided to give archery a shot and I will admit we have no experience with the sport. We called ahead and the facility assured us not to worry and they had a beginners instruction session. We were both so excited to give it a shot. The individual at the front desk was kind and greeted us. He assured that we would be beginning our beginners course very soon. Soon after, a long haired man, short with dark hair approached us and said he was our instructor. Without a pause he kept yelling instructions as though we were professionals at archery. Every moment I took to process what exactly he was saying, he was mocking and sarcastically humiliating me. I could not help but think he was picking on me more because I was a woman but we observed his nasty tone and sarcasm towards even some of the young children.I understand the facility must focus on the safety of everyone as it is a weapon but there must be immediate action towards this worker who talks down on women and children. I was furious by all his snarky comments and disrespect and it took all the fun out of this place. He constantly kept throwing sarcasm at my attempts to learn and was unwilling to teach. I believe this individual was unfit to instruct the beginners instructional session. I would not be bringing any of my girlfriends here as I am certain this individual will target them and make them feel humiliated. When it was the actual time to shoot the arrows, I felt humiliated and so embarrassed that I asked my husband if we could leave as his comments grew more and more uncomfortable. I did not care to ask when his name was but I’m certain the facility could determine who this individual is by description. Until immediate action is taken to dismiss this individual, I believe no one should go to this place. Extremely disappointing. (For further reference to indicate this individual, please check employees who were working on Sunday July 7th 2019 at 3pm.)
Went with my family today, (yes for Mothers Day!) We are ages 9 to 38, and all received a lesson from James. He was patient, knowledgeable and funny but also appropriately serious. We had a great time learning about our posture, and that more importantly than hitting the X on the target, we wanted to consistently be grouping our arrows. We look forward to our next time!
Went here on a date. Had a great time. I read a comment about an employee who was snarky and I must say we loved him (by the previous description it seems like same guy). He only wanted us to be better and all of his critiques were to help. I cant wait to go again. We went Sunday, July 21st at 2 pm.
Sadly I was disappointed with my experience here. I really enjoy archery (Ive visited other places in the past) but the instructor was really rude and not helpful. He was extremely nasty to us (and the other beginners) and even told my friend his bulleye’s shot was the worst shot he took because it was a stray from the others. He made us feel self conscious and sucked the fun out of the experience. He constantly compared us to each other, making it a competition. He pointed out and told us who was better than everyone else (were beginners, cmon!) I was close to putting my bow and arrows down and walking out. I was just really unhappy with the experience and how the instructor left us feeling. I do not plan on ever returning and I do not recommend taking lessons with the instructor. However, I hope your experience is better than ours.
Ive done archery a few times before (in a diff state) but, I dont recall ever getting such a thorough breakdown about archery form and how to properly shoot. The safety instructions were also clear and informative. James was our instructor and he was humorous, helpful (even helping us capture video and photos) as well as informative. The price was also fair - $25 for an hour and equipment. I used a traditional bow but their compounds were good also. They had recurve bows also but, perhaps only for sale. The only reason I didnt rate a 5 is because the space is a bit small. If all the lanes are full, youre practically on top of the person next to you. Overall, a very good experience though. Would definitely return.
First time here yesterday with my bf and it was really fun! Ive never done this type of thing before, so I was kind of scared in the beginning when there were kids in my class who had the potential of taking my eye out. Nevertheless, the instructor was fun, patient, and always emphasized safety. Highly recommend!
This place is awesome. Like most, bought an excellent and inexpensive 90 min groupon deal for two that offered a training session followed by free range. Our instructor was Mike who was amazing, passionate about his work, and made the lesson pretty humorous (as humorous as archery can be?).Our lesson took a bit longer than Id like and the free time to shoot felt a bit rushed, mostly because of how big the class was at that time, but it was still a very enjoyable experience and only fueled the desire to come back even more.Would recommend coming with a friend since youre paired off and its even more fun when its with someone you know... plus, one of you can own some bragging rights at the end when you compare your targets -- Ill be honest, it wasnt me. I probably shouldve asked for an arm guard considering my lack of coordination.Altogether, the 90 mins honestly flew by so quickly-- loved learning a new sport with a great instructor. Really wanting to come back very soon!
My brother, mother and I wanted to try something new for my mother’s birthday and this was such a great find! Erin and Martin were so incredibly helpful and kind throughout the whole archery lesson and this is definitely something we’d love to do again. Great instructors for such a fun class :)
Horrible experience. I’m positive the employee that I’m talking about is the same as the other negative comments left here and there should be action taken against him and this place would benefit greatly if he was gone. The “instructor” that my wife and I had the misfortune of receiving was extremely rude, disrespectful, and nasty to not only my wife and I, but everyone around him. It was very clear that no one felt comfortable with him. This was our first time trying archery and we were very excited, however that excitement turned into anger and the instructor ruined our entire day. This instructor (longer hair about shoulder length and out of shape. Maybe around 5’6”) 1) Went through every step extremely fast with no clear guidance or instruction while laughing mockingly if we tried to process anything 2) Made us feel stupid for asking any question and made degrading comments if any step wasn’t followed right on the first try 3) Talked down on a child (no more than 10 years old) who asked how much longer he can shoot saying “Ugh c’mon kid I don’t know! You paid for the hour right? So whenever it’s up!”You can’t expect people to pick up everything you’re saying while making them feel extremely self-conscious and putting them under an unnecessary amount of pressure. We felt so uncomfortable that we left midway. Wouldn’t recommend this place to ANYONE. I hope this employee is dealt with. No one should have to deal with that kind of disrespect and harassment. Save yourself the time and money and just find another archery facility.
I came for an intro class which lasted 1.5 hours. The instructor was funny and very willing to help out all the students. The bad was that there were over 20 of us and just 1 of him, so the class involved a lot of waiting, especially since there was only enough space for half the class to shoot at a time, and you had to wait until everyone to finish shooting the 4 issued arrows before you could go up to the target to retrieve your arrows. Pretty good experience overall, especially if you go with a friend to help pass the waiting time.
An extremely friendly place. On my very first visit, the crew wasvery easy to approach and ask questions. The more time you visit there, theyll definitely remember you.Whether you are visiting for single lesson visit orto purchase your bow, they will be very explanatoryfrom proper weight, size, parts, caution, etc, etc.
I went there last week to get a bow. I was unsure as what bow because I was a beginner. Al was very helpful and made sure I chose the right one. I write with my right hand but it turns out my bow Is left handed because I am left eye dominant. I definitely recommend you to go there.
We came an hour before closing, but the instructor was still willing and through about teaching us. I took 2 other classes from other NYC archery places(since they require you to take a lesson if its your first time there)no one esle covered the minor details and gave hands on advice like this place.
LOVED it. Went here with my girlfriend with both of us knowing nothing about bows besides the fact that they exist and look really cool in movies. The instructor, Mike, kept things lighthearted, fun and informative. It never felt overwhelming and if it did he was more than happy to help. By the time you fire that first shot, youre already comfortable and confident that youre doing it right.Absolutely plan on going back on the future and if youre even a little interested you should give it a shot. We all walked out with a smile and I plan on going back.
This place had lots of open space but felt kind of dingy. I attended a beginners class with 20 something people, and we all stood side by side in a row with a partner behind us, and it felt a bit tight. I would have preferred a little more space to move around but overall it was enough to perform the task. The equipment rental was provided in the deal, and Im glad they also had arm bands available. The arm band protects your arm from getting hit directly by the bow after the arrow is released, so it can prevent major bruising from occurring. I really had a great time here and archery is a fun activity with friends.
I’m fairly new to Archery, but have been working with some very knowledgeable and experienced archers for a few months. I recently moved back to the area and was eager to find a range close by to call home. Being the closest to me, I decided to give QA a shot. Immediately upon walking up to the counter to have some arrows cut, I got the feeling that I was inconveniencing the person who I now realize was the owner. The person who cut my arrows for me was courteous enough and did a great job with them, all the while I had a very uncomfortable conversation with the owner, who seemed to have a bad attitude in general. I shot, and decided I’d give it another try. I came back today, not realizing that they were closed on Mondays. The door was open so I walked in. The first person I talked to very nicely told me that they were closed and apologized, to which I replied “no problem, it’s my fault for not checking.” Then, as I’m getting ready to leave; the owner “Al”, comes out and looks at me with obvious annoyance and with an attitude says to me “it’s Monday “. Very matter of factly as if I should know this. I realize I should have checked, and had no problem going home. However the door was open and I walked in. That’s where I went wrong. Needless to say after two bad experiences and on the guidance of other archers who are familiar with the owner of “Queens Archery”. I will no longer be patronizing this place. Your time and money will be better spent at a shop who appreciates your business. Sorry for the rant. Happy shooting
Really nice and quiet archery range. They also have about 10 lanes (up and down) for new comers aside from the 10 lanes they have for people who are more experienced. I like their newcomer area cuz if no new comer is around, theyll let you shoot from the 10,15,20 &25 feet lines. Whichever one you prefer. But thats when there arent many people around.
Ive come here for the beginner class and range time. Their equipment needs updating. The bows are worn and the feathers on the arrows are falling off. The range space itself is pretty small. However, the instructors are very helpful and informative. All in all, I rather go to Gotham Archery since their equipment is newer and the range space is much larger.
I would say the people here are very mean. I brought my own bow and asked them some general questions on how to set it up, they asked me for $20 for a demonstration. Come on! I cant believe this! (And I got it after reading the instruction, its totally not hard! ).Price is not as cheap as it is in Long Island. I would never come back again.
Place is all about the dollar there a rip off and only care about putting your money in there pocket, they get annoyed at general questions and when you ask for help...if you don’t go there just to shoot, don’t go!!! Something that cost 10$ at pro line he wanted 50 just to put the bow on the press!! They think everyone is a pushover and Inexperienced!
Amazing remodel!!! - Queens Archery got a massive face lift... New targets, new paint job, and its absolutely spotless... Currently taking reservations on the website and following all the Covid precautions, temp checks, masks, sanitizing, social distancing, and Zelle Payments as well... Great job Al, Diane, and Vikki!!! ***** :)
Counter staff not too friendly trying buy few items I needed asking about the arrows how much each different brand he had he gave me a little attitude so I left went too pro line got treated better their and they had what I needed. I wouldn’t go queens archery anymore too expensive

2022-03-01Everyone was really fun and nice. As a newbie and basically the opposite of a sporty person, I was pretty nervous — but they make you feel really comfortable and welcome here. 👌

2019-02-23$25 for an hour with 15 minute intro for beginners. Great place and helpful staff. Learned a lot and really enjoyed the experience. Rad place for a date too. Try to split your own arrow to get it framed on the wall. They also teach wooden bows for a more classic style. Have gone twice and will go back again soon!

2022-05-26We live in Flushing within walking distance from this place and we wanted to try archery. I hadnt arched since scouts, so was a little rusty. Sessions are $30/person. We had a lesson included the first time we went. This was the first time I used a bow with a hand guard, so that made things a bit easier.I learned I have a phoria that causes me to shoot to the right of where I am aiming, so I corrected this by shifting my aim to the left, finally able to hit my targets more successfully. We came here twice. The first time was great. The second time was not. The woman at the front desk is friendly and the trainers during our first visit were helpful. The second time we visited, one of the employees was terribly unfriendly, sarcastic, and disrespectful... and I must be honest, he ruined the experience for me.Im unsure if I will return now.It was fun while it lasted.

2022-02-04Somehow whenever I try to book a session here it suddenly is closed every Sunday after I have scheduled it. I have been in written communication with Vikki, who originally took my preferred date and time only to cancel it the following week because they had a competition that day. We agreed to reschedule it for the following Sunday and now days before my scheduled time, she informed me that they would be closed once again and that they had booked me under the wrong the wrong day.I had heard wonderful things that had made me super hyped to check it out but after all of this back and forth I have no interest in going here.
