Queens Museum in other cities:
This place does not obligate you to pay anything, that alone makes it 5 stars. Parking was even free. They do have donation boxes if youd like to opt to do so. Lot of art and objects revolved around the worlds fair or NYC in general. Went to a theater video presentation that was rather interesting. Large model of NYC was amazingly detailed.
First off, the panorama is one of the coolest museum exhibitions I have ever seen. I spent about 45 minutes on it.The rest of the museum was very whatever. Nothing really got my eye. And I hate to be this guy, but it was just far too woke. Anti NYPD stuff is just kind of a red line for me...
I am giving them a star and that’s generous for me considering I rarely give any place anything under 3 stars. I will outline for you what all the reviews in summation say. They are giving it 5 stars because of the panorama. Outside of that it seems like the museum really has nothing to share. The anti police theme doesn’t help the museums cause. As a queens native I can tell you this, there are museums which are amazing but this museum just isn’t one of them. If your bored and you want to burn 4 minutes visit the museum but even that’s to nice.
A real gem of a museum. Free tickets, just go to website and book tickets in advance for a specific hour. It was very easy and done through eventbrite. My favorite exhibits were the nyc diorama and the Tiffany collection, talking about the famous Tiffany glass. The nyc diorama shows all of the boroughs from 1964. The two towers are still featured. Goes from day to night and there is a special gem in the air that I wont spoil. Loved visiting here!!
I went to the Museum with friends and had made reservations for 1pm.We arrived at 12:30 pm and asked if we could come in earlier. Then we were informed that we were a tour and therefore had to pay $6.00 per person. I gave the lady my credit card and paid. There was no receipt, I was told. When I checked the next day, I discovered that we were overcharged.I called and pointed out that apparently the lady at the reception had miscounted and charged for 7 instead of 6 people, they refused a refund, because it was more than 24 hours since the incident. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. No receipt, misinformation and absolute zero customer service. Incompetence and arrogance combined. What a terrible experience with this otherwise wonderful museum.
It was a small exhibition but it was fun. Six rooms in total probably will take you 1 hour ish if you take your time to take pretty photos here. The staff were super friendly, especially Grace, who is the photographer on site. She was very sweet and offering to take photos for us with some nice tricks there.
It may not be as popular as the bigger museums in Manhattan , but its certainly worth a visit . The Panorama of New York City is truly amazing its on two floors with a great view from the glass floor. Its shows all the boroughs and goes from A.M to P.M the night view shows the city and all it lights including LaGuardia Airport and bridges. Check out the Tiffany Glass collection which has a video on the process of making the lamps .The staff were helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.
It was wonderful to be able to go in and walk around the museum. I went on the website to get timed admission as thats the procedure. Of course, you need a mask. I was able to find parking next to the museum, but there are 2 other places to park close by just in case. The Panorama is still amazing. There are a few more exhibits that make it worthwhile and of course you still have the Unisphere and the rest of the Park to explore and enjoy. The admission is free, but a donation is appreciated. I visited the gift shop that had some very nice items for sale. Its worth the visit to shop and pick out some things to remember your trip.
Beautiful museum although not really big but the exhibits are quite interesting the only reason I did not give it a perfect review is because their parking lots were both full and not of people getting the cultural experience inside the museum.I am currently inside today is June 12th 2022, I saw parking lots north and south full of cars and some people that were not coming to the museum it is a Sunday and for the most part I saw a cars being offloaded with picnic tables , soccer gear etc.It seems they leave their vehicles on the parking lots belonging to the museum and occupied space that the people coming to the museum should take I even saw school bus parked in the south parking lot full of rubbish inside which in my judgement was suspicious. My plead is whoever is in charge of the parking lots to have a look at the situation for the sake everybodys safety.
Amazing museum. The massive model of New York City and its five boroughs is a sight to behold. The other exhibitions are also very interesting. Once you are finished with the museum building, check out the huge Unisphere. In total, visiting this museum will show you the best that Queens has to offer with its sheer diversity and scale.
This is a very interesting museum. I enjoyed all of the new exhibits especially the Bruce Davidson exhibit. The permanent exhibitions of the Relief Map of NYC water system, Tiffany glass and Worlds Fair were also interesting. Finally, the Panorama of NYC is always great to see!
The Queens Museum occupies a minor and oft-overlooked place in New York’s cultural landscape, but its star attraction - the Panorama of the City of New York - is reason alone to trek out to Flushing on the 7 Train. Containing 900,000 miniature wooden buildings spread out over almost 100,000 sq ft, the Panorama lays the city out in stunning detail, temporally stuck somewhere between its early 1960s commission by Robert Moses, a major update in 1992, and fits of minor additions since then. In short, a must-see for anyone in love with the city and its architecture.
Pretty good museum 👌, medium sized and in great location. I must say there arent too many things to explore here but the most unique and cool thing about this museum is the Panorama view of New York City. Its breathtaking 💙 and amazing, as you can see from the pictures I posted. Aside that theres really nothing much to do. This place is great for family and group of people to relax and mingle.
Beautiful place in a serene surrounding, the Hidden gem. Don’t miss the panorama of the city of New York and also the Tiffany glass collection. Also loved the memorabilia from worlds fair. Weekends always have workshops and art making for families etc. They should think about putting in a cafe or something that’s the only thing missing from the experience!
We visited the Queens Museum with a Homeschooling group and learned quite a lot from our tour guide Georgie (thank you). This lovely architectural designed museum with steal and glass has plenty of lighting. The many spacious galleries are sure to give you a different perspective of art.The kids favorite was the miniture NYC Gallery thats quite unique. This museum is a must visit if youre in Queens and near Flushing Meadows Corona Park. After the museum kids can enjoy either the Queens Zoo or The NY Hall of Science. Some photos of the glass gallery and the childrens team building design effort of a suspension bridge.
Being a long time resident of the NY metro area, the 1st thing that struck me was how small the collection was. I went there with my elementary school going kid. There were some are work by the kids. Most interesting was the art lab where kids can work on their own art work, activities. The panorama was interesting. The staff were nice, proactive, the cafe was ok. The best thing to do is plan for visiting Flushing Meadows Corona park, this museum and the Queens zoo.
A true artistic gem of a museum. Well attended and cared for. Gorgeously renovated to stand all its own a powerhouse of an institution, in a beautiful location, representing the artistic community and heritage of its namesake.Activities and programmes for artists in residence, the continuity, its children, and an active and varying rotation of regular exhibits year-round... absolutely astounding and worthy of much greater praise.
One of my favorite museums in New York City! I liked the Panorama of the City exhibit, showing a large-scale model of the city with all of its five boroughs. The museum is more than an art museum - it tackles relevant city issues such as its water supply, waste/landfill management, and social justice through activism. The museum building is also interesting in its own right, the site of the 1939 and 1964 World Fairs and the United Nations General Assembly in its first few years. It is inside a huge park and is not easily reached by public transportation so those without cars should be prepared to walk a bit.
Was pleasantly surprised by this museum. Its a bit small, sure, but has some very interesting exhibits, specifically the panorama of New York city, a huge physical model of the greater New York area with elevated observation pathways. That alone is worth the $8 entry fee (free if youre a New York area college student)
The Queens Museum is open, and as of this write-up, tickets are free (but get them online and in advance of your visit). I went recently on a Sunday afternoon. Of course — check out the Panorama. Its the museum’s main attraction. But also check out the restoration of a three-dimensional map of the New York City watershed. It was a map used by Robert Moses! It had suffered neglect and was stored out of sight by the city. But now you can see it! Its a one-room exhibit that doubles as a history lesson on the decommissioned Ridgewood Reservoir (which used to serve Queens) and the mechanics of how water from upstate flows by the sheer force of gravity via the city’s masterful network of underground water tunnels. Also, I might add, I love the space of the museum. Its open and inviting as well as Modern. Note: Masks are required. Tickets are timed. The gift shop is available, but the café is temporarily closed.
The Panorama of New York City is incredible. Spent 45 minutes checking it out. The intricacy and level of detail are fascinating. Several other excellent exhibits in the spacious hall. Great views of the Unisphere from the windows. Queens Museum is well worth the visit and a great value! Admission for our group of five was only $32.
Just like everyone else said, the Tiffany glass exhibit, worlds fair stuff, panorama and the watershed exhibit were all awesome. The rest of the museum was very modern and contemporary. Some recorded performance art. Lots of exhibits with headphones. I think there must be an app that allows you to hear info about each exhibit and piece but I didnt have it. Probably detracts from the overall experience not having it. Some exhibits were a bit confusing without the explanation. Overall, I would recommend checking it out if you live in NYC, particularly if you live in Queens.
AIA New YorkWalking TourREMEMBERING THE FUTURE:THE EXTANT ARCHITECTURE OF THE 1964/65 NEW YORK WORLDS FAIRThe Queens Museum gracious opened their superb WORLDS FAIR COLLECTION and PANORAMA to the participants of this AIANY tour. Thank you. Our next tour will take place in April 2020.
This art museum is in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, New York. Their is also an entrance off the Grand Central Parkway. It was originally built for the 1939 Worlds Fair. From 1946-1950 it was the home of the UN General Assembly. The building was also used for the 1964 Worlds Fair. The Panorama of the City of New York was built for the 1964 Worlds Fair; it is still at this museum. This is a large scale map of New York City with every large building in the NYC (as of 1964- it was updated several years ago) shown. Its great fun to pick out your building . Even if your not an art museum fan, its worth going to this one for the Panorama.
Be prepared for a brisk walk thru the park to get to the museum! Main exhibit is the model recreation of the city (LGA even has a plane landing/taking off!). Other exhibits at the time were of Tiffanys and gentrification. There is also a food bank that operates out of this space.
First time visit and had a great time!! My teacher ID got me in for free!!!! Everyone else its $8 which is incredibly cheap!! The art pieces were pretty cool and there was a guy singing alongside his art work which was a wall of portraits of inmates from rikers! You gotta check this place out if youre visiting NY especially with the worlds fair right outside!!!
Art, Educational Programming usually discussing or interacting with social justice issues. Their mainstay exhibits center around the 1964 Worlds Fair, particularly the Panorama exhibit of a miniature of manhattan and surrounding areas. A great museum for a day, and while there are some exhibits that work for children, not all are perfect fits, but they try to often make them interactive. The cafe is still closed as of this review (11/28/21), but they have their farm to table vending machine along with some other regular vending machines. Not a lot of sitting/rest areas and limited bathrooms.
This is a small museum with some creative little art and photography exhibits. In addition, there is a huge panorama of New York, it is a huge model that takes up the whole room. There is a walkway, part of which is glass, that goes up and turns to get a full view. Also the entrance is free. I must also say that I loved the exhibition of the ramones band, where all their history and their origins in queens New York were exhibited.
This Museum is different from the traditional Museums with abstract exhibits that may not be exciting and appealing to children and some may not be appropriate either. For the price it was a good deal and located in Corona Park which makes for another great attraction when visiting NYC.
Its pretty much amazing and mind blowing the panorama is amazing although be gentle with kids because of the glass floor and the fact that it gets dark at times in there but the glass is very think so dont worry too much about that. They have a mini monster museum too and im pretty sure its fun for tiny people .
Its a very contemporary museum with the main attraction of the miniature NYC exhibit and the NYC waterworks. Take time to read about the NYC waterworks and look at the topgraphic model made how the water from Catskill, Adirondack and Delaware watersheds been used. A very good museum and best part, it is free and well maintained. (Deserves donations )
Get there at opening and begin but the underground floor. Less people that way .A great day exploring math in our life , kids loved it and enjoyed all the activities. They did not know what to expect but that was so interesting. They keep going from one place to anotherPersonal was very helpful and explained how it works .What a fun day
By sheer coincidence I was reading Just kids Patty Smith and Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk at the time I attended the exhibit and I highly recommend them both as they were the perfect mental pallet cleansers to put you into the mindset of the early NY punk rock scene. Additionally I cant tell you how wonderful it was to comb over all of this modern day reliquary in the very hometown of the band. Nicely done.
The Queens Museum is famous for the Panorama of the City of New York, the largest architecturally-accurate scale model of the City -- commissioned for the 1964-65 World’s Fair, the Panorama includes every single building constructed before 1992 in all five boroughs. I recently tried to visit the Queens Museum with an advance ticket, but was denied entry. Until the Queens Museum gets it act together, I cannot recommend visiting it.
Great place to check out local artists and theres an exhibit on the Worlds Fair. Also, there is a park nearby that still has that Worlds Fair Globe, a statute, and other related things. There is lots of room to play soccer, have BBQs, and picnic with family and or friends.
One of the best places to go when passing by Flushing Meadows Park. A unique opportunity to know how artistically productive is this amazing multicultural borough is and having a nice experience by admiring a copy of our town in miniature! A must go piace when in NYC.
Ive been coming with my daughter to this museum for years. It doesnt matter if we see the same gallery over and over. We always get a different experience when we come. With that said. Take into consideration that it is free to enter and tho you can make a donation, there is no price to see your child being in awe when it comes to art!
Unusual museum of interesting exhibits. Clean, automatic temperature check, online tickets, free, has free parking, or easy access from lirr citified stop or number 7 subway same stop. Extra bonus, you are across from Worlds Fair Unisphere. Nice gift shops and the panorama exhibit of NYC is amazing. Watch for tiny airplanes landing and taking off. Very cool. Tiffany collection great. Go and enjoy, its open and free and safe.
Took some friends from out of town to see the panorama exhibit of NYC and they loved it. It was so much fun trying to figure out what part of the city different areas on the map were. A really cool part is when the overhead lights dim and lights on the panorama light up to provide a night perspective of the city. It is definitely a must see for native New Yorkers as well as visitors to the Big Apple.
The Queens Museum’s admission ticket fee is not expensive. Kids under 18 can get in for free which is very nice. The cafe opens on weekends and the panorama is beautiful and very cool. It showcases New York during the daytime and nighttime. You can find every single building built before 1992. It is detailed and the tour guide uses it to teach you about New York City. For example the ‘Bronx’ is supposed to be called ‘The Bronx’.
This is very nice museum. When we attended they were having an orchestra performance in the main lobby which was quite fantastic! The miniature model of New York is absolutely amazing and must be seen! I would highly recommend this wonderful museum to any who enjoy the arts.
The Museum is not too bad, it exhibited things from the 1964 and 1965 world fair but it is not suitable for children younger that 5yrs.it open at 11:am and is free Sunday to Wednesday .The thing I did like about the Museum is that there not parking and when I went with my family I had problem to find parking and it was also the US Open too so the place was block off all over.
This place is so much fun and really worth multiple visits. The pavilion highlights and exhibits are informative and exciting. Plus there is so much to do in this area with the tar pits and science center near by!!But the membership and youll end up going more then youd ever think. Plus members do get perks! Love the Queens Museum.
This place is super cool and educational for kids. They have their own old small model of New York City. Its breathtaking and a calm place to hangout. They also have their own cafe which is pretty sweet. The artworks displayed in the museum are eye popping! I would recommend to bring children of all ages.
The panorama of New York City is so worth the trip. It is truly amazing and helps you get a understanding of the size and scope of the city they its just hard to get any other way even in this age of Google Earth. My teenagers loved it. And the staff were very helpful kind and all round pleasant people.
The Queens museum is really cool and really big. The admission ticket for children under 18 is free so you dont really need to spend a lot. The tour guides are really nice and the Panorama was super cool. It shows us the 5 boroughs and has almost every building there is. They teach you very interesting facts like how The Bronx is called The Bronx and not just Bronx.
Loved it!!!!Parking is great!!!Price is right if you’re a teacher, nyc employee or student. There are other discounts as well. They have crafts for kids (ask for schedule). My favorite room was the Tiffany room with the lamps. Had lunch outside by the globe, was a great day!!!!
The Panorama of the City of New York is indeed very cool, but not worth the admission fee. (Check the NYC Culture Pass site for free admission, though.)The rest of the museum is full of the most pretentious gallery labels I’ve ever seen, attached to mostly mediocre art. There’s a very nice park just outside the museum which is a much better place to spend a few hours.
Such a big, historic place (was part of the 1964 Worlds Fair complex and housed the UN for a few years), yet there is very little there. When we visited (early March 2019) the panoramic exhibit and Tiffany glass exhibit was about it. Panoramic was super cool, but pretty basic and there is so much more that could have been shared to fill in the blanks. It was a nice day so we also strolled around outside to take in the universe (globe) and what most of us know now as the Men in Black towers. Again, both part of the Worlds Fair complex. Queens has such a rich and diverse history, wish there would have been more.
I came here to see and admire the panoramic view of New York City (the size of a small gym) with all parts of the city. This panorama is the pearl of the museum; may not be overwhelmed. The other showrooms are well thought out with me and very profound. The rooms are big, and the staff is helpful and friendly. I was here and looked around. Whether I understood everything can be left open.
Im not sure Id say its for everybody. Most of the museum consists of artwork that might not be completely understood by some. As a whole the museums collection of exhibits might seem a little bit abstract and disjointed. By far, the main attraction is the 1:1200 scale model of New York City and the artifact collection from the two worlds fairs that took place there. Theres also a pretty cool scale model how New York City gets its water. In all, I think art enthusiasts would get the most enjoyment out of this museum but the price is pretty cheap and maybe if you just go to see the panorama that alone is worth the cost, I think.
A very modern beautiful architectural design- walking up the frosted glass steps to the second floor is definitely an experience. The Worlds Fair exibit on the second floor is incredible! The buildings that were the exhibits during both the 1939 and the 1964 Worlds Fairs were amazing! It is a must see!
It was cool, small museum but kept up very well including bathrooms. Pieces focus on modern art. A few pieces were about Queens (which I thought all the pieces would be about). They occasionally have events so always check website or call to find out. The gift shop is very cool, lots of Queens products from key chains to shirts, including other great stuff. Great place to take the family and spend an hour.
Ive been hearing about the panorama for so long, I cant believe it took me so long to go see it at the Queens Museum. It was really fun to see and truly impressive. Even my kids (4 & 6) enjoyed exploring New York City via the Panorama. The museum itself is beautiful and very open and welcoming. There were a variety of different exhibits to visit and it was a fun place to spend a few hours.
This is a wonderful small museum that every New Yorker has to visit. While they dont have a lot of exhibits, they are uniformly wonderful. The art is diverse and accessible, the Tiffany display is breathtaking, the Worlds Fair souvenir exhibit is fascinating and informative, and the panorama is worth the trip all by itself. Lots of family-friendly activities (check their website) and the Worlds Fair Unisphere make this a five-star joint.
Lapin and I came here one weekend to enjoy the sights and the warm weather. To be honest, we both didnt know what to expect of the museum because we never went or heard of it before our trip. The museum is free but it is donation based, so do consider making at least a small donation. The museum is a bit smaller than the other museums but after talking to the staff, you can tell they really love working there and they are fully engaged (unlike the Morbid Anatomy Museum). Our museum guide was insightful and awesome. He made us do a group activity to actively engage with the exhibits instead of enjoying it passively. I love how he came across one exhibit and he was like sometimes its modern art isnt really much more than what it is (in this case a blue doe with a chips bag on its head). They have a lot of modern art and displays from the Worlds fair but the crown jewel is the NYC panorama. If you have time, definitely scope out the globe outside. Lapin wished we had more time to rent bikes and go for a spin, maybe that would give us another reason to visit!
The most ridiculous museum ever!!!Sign and all the information states museum hours Wed-Sun 11-5pm. I’m here at 4:35 and tried to enter but a museum employee runs out says it’s closed and locks the door behind me!I called to find out what’s going on and an employee says they close at 4:45 to get ready to close up. It wasn’t even 4:45!!! How lazy and unprofessional!!!! Who’s paying for these lazy people? City government? Beyond ridiculous!Never waste your time coming here!!
5/2/15:This is my second visit to the museum and it was a wonderful experience. The highlight for me was seeing the Panorama of the City of New York. It is a must-see 3D model of NYCs infrastructure and landscape that occupies a large high ceiling room. Another notable exhibit is the NYC Water Supply System that educates the viewer about where the citys water comes from. Its an excellent museum and is situated in a fantastic park.
The Queens Museum is a very welcoming place. The staff is very good-natured and wanting to help, but they really don’t seem to know a lot about what’s going on. In addition the exhibit, Unbuilt New York, was very exciting but very poorly organized. Even the numbers on the portions of the exhibit weren’t in order.
This museum is the worst. I asked for the protocol to take wedding photos with just my photographer and immediate family and they said as long as we arrived during museum hours and did not need a room rental, we should be fine. Cut to the day of my wedding, my family and I were welcomed by an incompetent volunteer who told us not only that we needed to PAY to get into this suggested admission museum, but that we were not allowed to even walk through the galleries because they had an event starting in four (yes, four) hours. After we finally asked to take a single photo, the manager of the day yelled at our entire group for daring to take a picture in front of the ugly mural in the atrium because “it’s probably against the artist’s wish” to have photos taken of it (that other guests were taking photos of), and promptly told us that the person who told us it was okay does not work at the museum anymore and therefore it was not valid. As a Queens-born person, I support the arts but I think this museum can be skipped. It’s now apparent to me why this museum remains empty every time I visit - including my own wedding.

2022-05-29Absolutely amazing free museum that is well worth a visit if you’re in the area. While the museum seems very large on the outside, the inside only contains a few exhibits but each exhibit is very spacious with a large interior area to relax and soak in the ambiance. The highlight of the museum is the fully accurate model as presented in the world fair. The Panorama of the City of New York was presented at the 1964 Fair and it is absolutely amazing. You can still find it some buildings that haven’t changed since 1964 and accurate to this day. There’s even small airplanes that fly and land.

2022-04-06There really are not enough words in the English language for me to adequately express my gratitude to the staff at the Queens Museum in Flushing Meadows Corona Park and how they made the class trip for my college students a tremendously successful and fun educational experience. All the exhibits were interesting, and the Panorama of New York City has to be seen in person to really be appreciated. I highly recommend the Queens Museum if you are an educator as it is especially welcoming of groups of students of all ages. I guarantee you and your group will have a memorable experience at this museum in the park.

2022-03-23The experience here was second to none, being the most educational and honest experience of New York Ive had!Yes, it is quite inaccessible especially if the 7 train isnt in service, but oh boy what a learning journey it was for me!The panorama takes you back in time, to when the World Trade Centers two towers were still standing. It gives you a chance to see how much NYC has changed over the decade. The highlight of the museum has to be their other fringe exhibitions. They curate and handpick honest experiences of New York, such as an eye-opening exhibition by Suzanne Lacy on domestic violence. They even had Tiffany Glass on display (which saved me alot of time from exploring!).Easily the best museum, especially if the ongoing exhibits excite you!

2022-04-24See the Tiffany glass if you have time, the Worlds Fair relics if youre interested, and the panoramic model of the city no matter what. Spend time wandering around this capacious museum, feeling yourself engulfed by the weight of history, the glimmering remnants of bygone eras.

2021-12-115 stars for the huge panorama of NYC. It was truly a WHAT-THE-HECK-THIS-IS-AMAZING moment to see the entirety of the city modeled with hundreds of thousands of pieces. Don’t miss out on the informative audio guide!60-90 minutes should be enough to get through all the installations.
