This park has *lots* of potential to be a welcoming, inviting spot - waterside views of Manhattan, open green space, a fun kids play area, a baseball diamond, a sprinkler, basketball court, and restroom facilities. Its also a no barbeque, no open fire space, HOWEVER, when I visited, there were at least six portable grills going on the premises in violation of this policy. This, plus a general feel of deteriorating, unkept facilities and grounds have the park a rundown feeling throughout. This park has lots of potential but needs some protective attention from the NY Parks system first.
This was my park.. I grew up at 35-11 Vernon Blvd.. and my sister or Late Brother would always take me to play there… right down the block.. great memories of Rainey Park!! Vernon Blvd was the best!! A beautiful community!! Everybody knew your name! I have to pay the park a visit soon!! Haven’t been there since 2000!!
Nice park located on Vernon Blvd for those who are not so close to Astoria Park. Enough benches along the walkway by the water. It has water fountain for kids, small rock climbing, slides and swings. Bathrooms and water station but it is not the cleanest...will not recommend using unless strictly needed.
This a terrific Park. Unfortunately, no money has come its way in years. So some parts need some care. They did one big improvement about 10 years ago. They closed the park for almost 2 years to put in a bike path. So that one section got new black-top. The other walk ways are neglected. We did get some benches along the water which gives terrific views.
Nice park...big and open grass...trees with shady spots. Walkway near the water so you can watch the ferries go by. Places to play basketball, volleyball, soccer or throw a frisbee or fly a kite. Small area for children with swings, 2 slides, a rock climbing wall and a sprinkler area to cool off on hot, sunny days. Pack a picnic basket, you wont be disappointed.
Rainey Park is a favorite spot for family gatherings, picnics, kids amusements, dog walking and sightseeing. Its along the East River facing Roosevelt Island and the Manhattan skyline! MTA buses stop right up front on Vernon Boulevard. Street parking is also available. ADA accessible with public restrooms onsite. Closes after evening hours.
I love that this place is a little off -the-beaten path and away from the crowds of bigger parks (like Astoria Park), though it does fill up on a summer weekend, so if you do a picnic, get there early. I like walking through here any season, though. Beautiful fall colors and snowscapes in the winter. Great place to watch the boats go by, especially during the spring, when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom.
The park is wedged between Costco and industrial building. The area of the park is small but has a great view of Roosevelt island. It has biking lane and a playground with two slides nested on a large and small humps and a climbing wall. It has swings, summertime the sprinklers are on, making the slides very wet affair. The playground area was once great, but poor maintenance and neglect left the soft surface around the slides, full of holes and patches. The slides are fast so be careful, you dont want your kid to be flying out as a champagne cork. I never understood why there is a climbing molds around the slides, making a fall and a tumble down the hill very dangerous. I would say that this park is best suited for a quiet time at a bench next to the river facing Roosevelt island. Book or a good company are always a great option. A lot of dogs walk their owners all time of the day. 😃
Me and my family have been going to Rainey Park for 10 some odd years now. Its a great park by the river, lots of green grass and shade trees to hang under on hot summer days. The playground is awesome for kids of all ages. The two slide hills could now use an update. During a holiday weekend the park can get crowded and the garbage situation gets out of hand. Usually takes the parks department a few days to clean up.
Its a really cute and charming little park down by the water. Great for a walk, taking your dog out for a stroll, or plopping down on some blankets to sunbathe. Some days can be a little more congested than others but otherwise the people generally wear masks and are pretty okay when it comes to social distancing (if youre worried).
Good place for volleyball games! The ground is not super even, but you can find 2-3 spots to set up your volleyball court with out any problems. It has water fountain behind the red building, which is a restroom. It has small fountains near it, where you can refresh yourself. It gets fairly crowded during weekends, peeple barbecue and listen to music with their families and pets.
Just a wonderful place to spend an afternoon with friends or family. It has a great view to the river, a modest park for children, bathroom facilities, and if you bring your equipment you can even have a baseball/softball match in the built-in field. Overall, Rainey Park is ideal place to have a good time.
Really small but scenic park right on the water. There’s a little playground with a traverse wall for kids. There are also a couple of basketball hoops. It’s right next to the Costco too, so it’s a good spot to get a little green space before dealing with the chaos of Costco. There’s a small walking track around the park but it’s not long enough to really make a run of it.
Great place to take your dog. Be careful... In the summer months people have barbecues, on the following Monday theres a ton of trash, meat bones and charcoal all over the place because the savages who have the barbecues dont property clean up after themselves. My dog chocked on a chicken bone once.
This is an awesome park with a great view. Costco is nearby so you can take a walk after shopping. You can see Roosevelt Island and Manhattan from here. If you plan to eat something bring it with you. No food place nearby. The park is also great kids as they slides and playing ground. We frequently go with nephew during the summer.
I think this park is beautiful except fir the dog owners who take over the park in the mornings. It doesnt have a doggie park an they think the park is for them an their dogs. Also tm people grill in the park and leave their charcoal in the grass an near the trees which makes it look messed up overall most visitors follow thr rules for the park
Rainey park is renovated with climbs, slides, swings and playground. There is a little rock climbing for kids as well. The only thing I dont like is that after sunset teenagers behave poorly in the park. Avoid the place in the dark. Otherwise its a fun playground. The park has a baseball net too, and a large ground to play, though I havent seen anyone play there, likely because the ground, I might have felt, is uneven there.
If you are looking for a picnic location, Rainey Park offers plenty of space for one. The views of Roosevelt Island and Manhattan are quite nice. I was actually able to order pizza from the nearby Roma Pizza and Pasta restaurant and they delivered successfully within a reasonable amount of time. The softball field is not maintained anymore and should not be used as such; when I applied for a permit to play softball here, the Parks Department did not grant me one. The basketball hoops are not great, but they are adequate and playable. Rainey Park is very popular among dog-owners on early weekend mornings.
Quiet during the week but very busy during the summer with families barbecuing. Took off a star because on Mondays after a busy weekend, the park can be quite dirty with garbage and food strewn all over the place. It has a beautiful view of Manhattan and Roosevelt Island.
This park is bias! Foreigners can have big family bbqs, parties, family gatherings volleyball nets up everywhere and so forth without a permit. Also the police or parks department workers do not question or bother them. LetAfrican Americans have such gatherings... you have to have a permit when having anything and its not fair! They will kick your family out with the quickness!!! I paid $25 to have my 50th bornday party there, I never received and answer or my money back! Wheres my money Parks Department????!!!!!

2022-06-07I adore this park at any time of day. At dawn theres a slight fog through the trees near the riverwalk. After June 15 there are misty sprinklers to keep us cool next to the playground and bathrooms. And at dusk, well, of course theres the sunset over the river. As of yesterday there are wildflowers galore (Im hoping they dont spray chemicals). I wouldnt travel from far to visit it, but certainly a lovely park for those who live nearby.

2022-04-02I bring my two puppies here and enjoy every second of it. The view and waterfront are a big plus and hey…if I have to buy groceries for home; Costco saves the day!

2021-06-06Its A really nice, kid and bike friendly park. They have sprinklers and plenty of benchs. There arent any picnic tables but it has a beautiful view of the river and the Manhattan sky line. the bathroom closes after a certain time just as a heads up. And theres no place with A bathroom near by.

2022-05-01Decent park next to the river. Great for a stroll with your SO. If you have kids, the playground equipment is in desperate need of rework/rebuild.
