Ms. Saly, did her thing with my hair! I got knotless box braids and you know that feeling when you know your hair is being braided...... tightness, tension. I felt none of that, my head feels GREAT. Ms. Saly took her time with my hair she took complete care with my hair. I will be going here from now on.
Unfortunately I wish I could give 0 star. After 3 months doing research about tree braids I came across Rama website loved the pictures of her job. So I went to her 1 month before of the date I needed my hair done , which was for overseas wedding, I asked for the price , I showed to her the type of hair I was about to order which was human wavy hair , I showed a picture of tree braid from her website and her answer was ok to all my questions . So I booked and order 6 BUNDLE = 20 OUNCES IN WAVY HUMAN hair. The date came, I arrived at the time on time ,she finished in few hours and as i looked in mirror she mentioned if i would have bought the synthetic would have looked fuller ,(well she should have told me when i first came month before right!) I didnt see the top of my head with mirror but as i touch it felt thinner first time doing so i thought was the hair , i left and got home my friend took picture then i saw didnt looked right not even close! was not enough hair on top all we could see was the braids , we came back and she crochet more hair . Well by the time i got home again hair was falling down, i called her and she said hair wasnt good for that type style for me to take down that i could come back next day for another style .But since i was flying overseas I didnt wanted risk missing my flight. Well now figure I arrived at my destination half hair half empty braids, and in 4 days all the hair have came off as the braids started to undo(didnt washed nor brushed) straight to garbage half of the 8 1/2 ounces she put on my head , i didnt make it to the wedding with the hair , it ruined my vacation , i was in such shame i cried and spend 4 days cleaning peoples house bc i was shedding like a animal. Good luck to you !!!
I enjoy my experience every time I come!! This has been my 3rd time back within the last 4 months. The ladies that work here are very kind and work efficiently. I walk out leaving as a happy client. Ngone has done my hair each time. Everyone knows how to do hair as I sat & watched while I was getting mine done. I recommend this place hands down. Thank you Ladies!!!
I called ahead to make an appointment for myself and my three nieces all under the age of 10...Rama said she would give a good price. Got there, she wasnt there and I could feel a rudeness already. One hair stylist kept messing with my niece hair, I had to ask her to take it off and let someone else do it. My stylist kept complaining and giving attitude, I asked her from the onset if she wanted to braid my hair, my 4c hair is so nappy, so I get if she doesnt want to do it but she and her sisters said thats not what she saying, that shes only making random talks, well her body language and attitude said otherwise. The kids hair shouldnt have cost more than $40 but they charged $60 and the beads started falling off right there at the store, I had to rebead the girls hair at home myself and my hair..the twist are already loosen, I asked my sister to retwist it.
I called and made an appointment on the same day, didnt have to wait when I arrived and the staff was friendly. I got medium size, knotless box braids and they look great - exactly like the picture I showed as a reference. Rama did my hair and its not too tight. The place was clean and not a lot of noise like other hair braiding places.
The best hands down! I got some medium sized senegalese twists and it only took 2 hours!! The atmosphere is one that I haven’t experienced going to a African Hair Braiding Salon! Everyone was nice, professional and clean! I live in Connecticut and I will be traveling here every time I need my hair braided or twisted! Thank you!
I went in and asked for stitch cornrows , the cornrows with the parts in the braid . When I first arrived I was told to come back in one hour because the lady who “knew how” to do the braids was still with a customer , I came back and was told to come back in another hour because the lady DIDNT know how to do them so they told me to wait for another lady who FOR SURE knew HOW. My braids were so sloppy , and the parts were noticeably crooked I respectfully went back and expressed that I wasn’t pleased with my hair , the style is $80 and I gave a $20 tip because I trusted that my hair looked fine without actually starting at it until I got home . When I went back the lady had an attitude when her boss was telling her about how she needed to fix her work , even after yanking each braid out with an attitude she proceeded to part and braid sloppy again so when I expressed to her “Mam this is not straight” she threw my money at me and pushed the chair with an attitude, I could’ve reacted very disturbing but I’m pregnant and just wanted my hair done so I can go back home , I hope no one ever gets the treatment I did .
This was the third time I’ve gone to Rama and trust me, it will be my last. The first time Rama herself did my crochet braids and they were FABULOUS and lasted me well over six weeks. I was impressed and couldn’t wait to schedule another appointment. The next time I went they had some young girl who sits in the back to the left by the bathroom do my hair. Throughout the whole process she was texting and needed guidance on how to crochet from another stylist which really upset me. I’m not a guinea pig and training should be done on mannequin heads or volunteers, NOT paying customers. Needless to say, two weeks later the braids were literally falling out of my head as I was walking down the street. Despite my better judgement, I decided to give it another try on a whim (six months later) and guess who I got stuck with AGAIN!! The shop was pretty busy and I was leaving for vacation the next day so as the saying goes, beggars can’t be choosy. This time, I tried to give the young girl the benefit of the doubt that she had somehow gotten better since my last visit but boy was I WRONG! She actually got WORSE! She put these giant cornrows in my head, used every strand of hair which made me look like Diana Ross in the 70s and once again, had to be instructed by another stylist about how to thin out and style the hair. If you happen to need crochet braids, ask for Rama specifically and if she’s unavailable, RUN, don’t walk to another salon. You’ve been warned...
I like how they style my braids. I have a short braid style and I love it. They do it all. Show them a photo and they can do it. Most braid salons in NYC only know how to do one style od braid style....long or skinny braids...Rama salon actually knows how to style braids at all lengths and all styles. I actually witnessed it. They braid fast and you are not sitting there like you went to work. Try it!
I went to this hair salon Friday and did not have a good experience. I asked for faux locs and before letting the lady touch my hair I told her to not braid my hair TIGHT and she said okay. As she started I told then told her I am tender-headed so please don’t braid tight. She said alright I got it. When she started my hair it was fine but then she started to braid tight and I was wondering why my head felt like it was on fire. I told her several times to not braid my hair tight. And she did not allow me to look at what she had done to my hair. I finally hit my hand on my hair and she was braiding my hair in micro braids. I said why did you make them so small , how am I supposed to take out my hair. She said with an attitude that it’s already and you’ll be find. So now I’m stuck with these small braids that you can hardly see. The painful part was not even over she crochet the locs in and each one she put it felt like it was taking out my hair. The whole time in that chair I could not she a mirror. And after it was done I was finally able to see what she did. I immediately told her I don’t like . She got an attitude and left. I wanted it out my head felt like it was bleeding. No one was able to help since they was working on other people. Moral of the story for myself is to stick to the hair salon I’m use to. I only came to this salon because mine was closed for the holiday.
Just went today. I had an overall good experience and I would go back. I only took one star off due to miscommunication with Fatu.I called yesterday to ask if I could come in at 9am even though they open at 9:30 and Fatu said that would be fine. I did read the reviews that said she is always late so I called her at 8:45am to let her know that I was on my way. I could hear the sleep in her voice and she told me that she was on her way and that I should wait until 9:30. I got there at 9 as I was already on my way and waited outside until 9:30. When I went in Fatu still wasnt there and they told me she always comes late and wouldnt be in until later so some other girls had to start my hair.Long story short two ladies did my hair (Lauren and Lydy? I believe were their names). I got waist length Senegalese twists done, didnt start until 10am but I was finished by 2pm which I think was great timing. And I love the style. I asked for medium thickness and I told them that I wanted to make sure the style was full and they did. It is also very neat. Best part is that they didnt braid tight at all! The last African salon I went to I had a headache for a week!My only other complaint is that they tried to charge me $140 when I was quoted $120 over the phone. I gave them $130 and a tip.Recommendations for Fatu would be not to make appointments you cant keep (she didnt show up until 11:30 and never even helped with my hair she started on another customer instead), and to let customers know if they should expect that someone else would do the hair. I have no complaints about the girls who did my hair though. They were quick and efficient and I didnt have to wait long once I was in the shop for them to start.
I loveeeee my hair💯💯💯💯.. First time going there. I wanted my hair braided like a picture i got on the internet, I googled the best hair African hair salons in harlem and this came up. I read the reviews, and also so photos i was pleased with what i saw. I went today and I showed 1 of the ladies the picture and it came out Id give a 10 out of 10 just like the picture. I definitely will continue to go here. The place is clean, and the workers were very friendly!!!!
I went there a week ago, the lady that did my hair clearly only wanted to get the job done because after she was done, she never explained what I should do to keep up with the braids I got. A co worker of mine explained to me what I had to do. THE LADY THAT DID MY HAIR SUCKS. I didn’t feel comfortable and she kept trying to rush because there were visitors that weee coming in and even when I was leaving I was super thankful and still no hospitality was shown NEVER EVER GOING BACK
Found and read reviews about Rama and I needed to find a place to do my crotchet, Rama was great and I recieved friendly fast hair service. My crotchet braids came out exactly how want them. Rama and staff oiled my scalp as well. I’m really pleased with the service I recieved and I will be returning to get my crotchet hair done at Rama’s beauty salon
THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME AT RAMAS AND I AM GIVING BINTA 5 STARS. MY APPOINTMENT WAS YESTERDAY AT 10:30AM AND WHEN I GOT THERE AT 10AM BINTA IMMEDIATELY TOOK ME. SHE WAS FRIENDLY AND NICE AND ASKED ME EXACTLY WANTED I DONE. BINTA WAS PROFESSIONAL, SHE CONTINUED TO CHECK IN WITH ME TO SEE IF SHE WAS DOING IT TOO TIGHT AND IF I WAS OKAY. BINTA BRAIDS VERY FAST. I WAS OUT OF THE SHOP BY 2:30PM. MY BRAIDS ARE VERY NEAT, I LOVE THE COLOR COMBO SHE SUGGESTED, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM AND THE WAY THEM CAME OUT.I WILL DEFINITELY BE GOING BACK TO BINTA!!!
The owner of this shop was away in Africa so The lady who i made an appointment with had an attitude when she got there i was there when they first open up the shop cause that’s when she said to come in real early she knew i was coming because i called a week before she was late started someone else hair before me she got someone else to come in that lady came in an hour later to braid my hair that lady braided my hair so tight that i was in pain for a week her braiding my hair so tight cause all my edges and hair is coming out never again coming to this place

2021-07-20I was recommended to go here by my friend because they did a really good job on her knotless braids and my braid lady was out of town. I got knotless braids with a goddess curl at the ends, I LOVED the hair the first day, it came out very neat. When I got home I noticed a piece of my own hair on the side was left out by my ear, and not every braid had the curl on the ends and she actually cut a few braids in half. I dont live in town and when I call the owner to tell her about it she said I can come in anytime and they open at 9am. I get to the shop at 9:40am they are not open. I called all 3 numbers and all went to VM. VERY unprofessional. Waited in my car after 10am and still no call back or open stop. . I had to go find another shop to fix it. NEVER AGAIN!

2021-06-11The faux locs they did on me were stiff like spider legs, and 3 of the locs began unraveling. After alerting my stylist, she offered to fix my 3 locs for $50Update, after trying to take down my faux locs, I realized the fake hair was bonded with glue to my real hair. After contacting the owner, I received an apology but no offer for a refund or anything to accommodate the stress and hair loss her stylist did on my head, and that’s after the stylist tried to say I lied, only to realize she confused me for another client of hers. Worst experience ever. It took me days to rake and clip the glued ends off my hair. Never going back again.

2021-12-29THE BRAIDS ARE UGLY. THE PARTING OF MY SCALP FOR BOX BRAIDS LOOK HORRIBLE. Stylist was rude and impatient, attempted to force a particular color on me and lied stating the color that I wanted wasn’t available because she wanted to leave faster. The boxes for my braids are UNEVEN and disproportionate and the braids are stiff because there’s not enough hair in the braids. Talked negative about my hair the entire time and overcharged me! I wish I can get my money back, the way she didn’t care about my hair at all and took my money is maddening. Crazy thing is, she said she didn’t want me to not like my hair and then she RUSHED the entire process. The boxes in the front of my head are different sizes.

2022-01-16MyExperience was so bad I really need to report this lady to immigration because she doesn’t belong here because her service is so bad im just lost for words. The timing is off the lady in the middle on the right hand side of the shop with the short hair cut is so rude. She made a appointment with me then when I come she’s lost to what she text me acting like she’s Rama texting me to come in I get there she don’t remember nothing I didn’t text Rama because she’s in Africa so she using her phone it was just to much. She had me thinking I was texting Rama then I come at night to confirm she never tell me Rama was in Africa until I came in the day of service then she’s look oh Rama is in Africa I’m like well who was I txting she said her. 🤬then had me wait 4 hours to get it done but guess it didn’t get done. 4 hours later and the lady she had to do me said she was leaving and they left me without my hair done for 4 hour of waste time to have to go to another shop and get it done. Rama needs to fired her she is very bad for business and I will keep telling people about her until she’s gone.

2021-10-08This has been my favorite hair style by far! I had large knotless butterfly braids and they lasted a good time! They are really good with braiding and they are also very fast! The only downside is having to wait a bit but I’m sure if you come in early you will be seen quicker! I will be coming again 💕⭐️✨

2021-06-17In all honesty when I think about my experience at this salon the only words that comes to my mind to describe the way I felt after having someone pull, tug and put heat to my hair without even a heat protection is m disappointed and angry. Unimpressed in the skill of the individual who I trusted with my hair. Doing my own hair takes time and patience. This individual portrayed non of that. After 3 or 4 times of attempts to achieve the style that I wanted. Which was two braids perfectly symmetrical going back without pulling aggressively at my head. The individual got frustrated and had who appeared to be the shop owner attempt to do my hair. Which went better than my experience with that individual. But non the less the style came out subpar. I won’t be returning but hope this review will help any naturals looking for a hair dresser or braider who is more gentle and one who has the ability, knowledge, understanding & is able to accommodate the needs of natural hair.

2021-02-08This is my absolute favorite place to get my hair braided. Everyone is so genuinely friendly and helpful. There’s great energy in this shop. I’ve been a few times and I’m never disappointed. They braid quickly but neatly and it doesn’t hurt when they detangle my 4c hair. Love this salon! :)

2019-11-24I have been coming to Rama’s for quite a few years now. Her salon is the only place I let braid me and my children’s hair. I highly highly recommend Yasmin! All the ladies are great but that’s my go to girl! My scalp is left healthy and not pulled or treated ruff during my braids being done. Come here you won’t regret it! They are very talented women!

2020-09-07I went to receive box braids and as I walked in and explained I called beforehand for braids, all staff memories laughed at me. I felt super uncomfortable and unfortunately, this business doesn’t take credit cards so I wasn’t able to get my braids. Only one lady was super nice to me as she explained that the longer the braids are, the heavier it’ll feel. Box braidings are very popular and I felt super sad that I was laughed at for trying to and supporting the culture. On top of that, box braidings go for $120 and up, and the lady who was about to do my hair was charging me $200.
