Reaction Salon in other cities:
This place years ago used to be pretty decent, there was a young lady there who really knew her stuff when it came to hospitality and hair. I asked her if they could work with transition hair she said yes, SHE could. So she became my go to girl. I only stayed if she was there. Well, as time went on, she told me of how they little by little were starting to harass her a bit and were not appreciating her. (I dont see why not, she made the place look professional). Anyway, her hours became less and less and I became concerned about her and my hair! Now I decided maybe I would be forced to try someone else BIG MISTAKE! My hair wasnt happy, it didnt feel or react the way it did before, it wasnt treated like it was before. It started to not grow like it had been before it thinned, and I lost my temple hair on both sides! Now you might say, well maybe just it was my body? Nope sorry, my daughters did the same thing! We came away from that place so fast! EVERYTHING they do is HEAT, HEAT, AND MORE HEAT! Tugging and pulling over and over doesnt help either! At the end of the day, your hair looks nice but what the hell did you just put it through? No thanks, Im good. I walked across the parking lot to a much smaller and friendly place and guess what, my hair is growing back so nicely. AND ONE person does my hair not 20 different people! Reaction, dont sacrifice QUALITY for QUANTITY!
I was a customer here off and on for the last 6 or 7 years. No relaxer since 2011. Ive always paid $25 for a wash and set. Tonight the girl says its $45 because of the new price list and Im natural. My black beautician charges $40 for a silk press. Naturals do yourself a favor and stay away from here!!!
I get my hair done every week and never had a bad experience. The prices are great and they are quick. Normal hair dressers have you in the salon for hours and thats with an appointment. I walk in and out in about a 1.5 hours on a average day and 2 hours on a busy day. They have a great loyalty points program. For every $100 you spend you get $5 off your next appointment. You can let them points accumulate over time. Every few months I walk out just having to tip. As far as the ladies saying they apply too much heat and the dryers are too hot. Hmmm turn the dryer temperature down or get out of the dryer if you think your hair is dry. You know your hair better than anyone else. Also if you dont want flat iron tell them before hand the blow dry is a different techniques without flat ironing. They do over 100 heads a day 5 out of 7 days a week.I highly recommend this salon
Today I came in only to blow dry which includes hot iron and trim, my hair was already washed set dryed they charge me $35.00. They were going to charge me $45.00. There are other customers who usually pay 25.00. However if you are black customer like my self its time we encourage our ethic group to support heavily the blacksalons in Baldwin. Lets get quality for our money, and also quantity. I was reminded today again why I stopped doing my hair at Reactions
I get my blowout here weekly. It is a very busy place but you dont notice because you are attended to very quickly. They do use a method I am not used to which is sit under the dryer, blow dry, then flat iron. I am used to getting my hair done in queens and Brooklyn and ladies have never used a flat iron on my hair to achieve desired results... but the outcome is the same and my hair lasts all week. Overall I am pleased with the salon. It is the best that I have found in the Baldwin/Freeport area. The ladies are friendly and experienced. I do suggest to bring your own hair products as the salons products are not the best. YOU cant beat their prices and wait time..
I have been going to this salon for many years and mistakenly I have given the several chances to color my hair and unfortunately they failed miserably. Their English is basic so I cant fault them for not understanding all the time. If you want a wash and set and flat iron they do this well, but thats about the jist of it. I asked for black dye and they put a black rinse in my natural unrelaxed hair and ofcourse when they rinsed it out my hair was brown. They have No knowledge about colors, levels, lifts, and toning. They ruined my blonde hair last year and I had to have an expert colorist correct it. RUN if you are seeking any chemical service from them.
I was a client at the Baldwin location since it opened. As new locations opened this one has become run down and service is now just as bad or worse. I came in for my birthday last month and should have walked out when I did not see my usual go-to staff for good results. Instead I stayed due to time constraints, and paid the price with hair being pulled too tightly after noting the need to be gentle. Worse, the moment I closed my eyes for a second I felt an intense heat on my face during styling and realized I had been burned. I was shocked and cried out only to receive a nonchalant response of “nothing there.” Well it’s a month later and I still have a SCAR on my face. Not the type of birthday or any day experience that should occur when someone goes to a hair salon! Rating -*
I have fine barely shoulder length curly hair and I’ve been to the queens location in the past and they’ve charged me $35. to $45.to blow dry dry a full head of hair. I walked into their Baldwin location with less than half a head of hair sides and back shaved, when asked, I said I needed a wash I waited patiently. When it was my turn they acted shocked I needed a wash. I told them no rollerset just a blow dry they said $35.00. Like $35! for what? Less than half head of hair? Then the lady that was about to blowdry me asked me to sit under a dryer to dry out some of the water. I said if your going to charge me $35. For half a head of hair I would like it done from wet to dry. They started speaking in Spanish all rude. I decided to leave and just pay for my wash. They charged me $15. For a wash. Smh second and final attempt to have my hair done at their Baldwin location.
I’ve been coming to Reaction since I was in HS and they were located inQueens. I was super excited when they opened their salon in LI. However, the quality of customer service has changed drastically. First, DO NOT come here if you have natural hair. They do not know how to handle natural hair at all. The temperature of their appliances will burn your hair. They also change and add prices on a whim. I’m no longer a fan and I am looking for a different salon.
Extremely unprofessional! I’ve been going there since they opened up. I was a very loyal customer until today. I have never been so insulted. Miguelina talked about my daughter’s hair the whole time. Laughing making fun until I had enough. Just because I can’t speak your language doesn’t mean I don’t understand it. When I asked for an apology she just tried to laugh it off. She refused to apologize and continued to run her mouth making the situation worse. Needless to say I left and I will never step foot in there again. Reaction will have a very hard time keeping customers if they continue to treat them like this.
I been coming here for years and prices change due to the way I have my hair.Thicker hair requires more timing and more products and Im ok paying the extra 10 dollars and Im Hispanic so it has nothing to do with race. They are very nice and accommodating to everything I ask even if I have to pay extra. Bartola does amazing hair color and treats your hair to avoid damage I dont pay attention to the negative comments because people do it just to be hurtful. All the girls are well experienced and do great weaves and blow dry I love this place
They never have a constant price everytime I go there they always have a different price. Need to find me a new salon. Im done with them, I live in the town. Blown drying my hair dont mean to burnt and fried. Ruined my hair...been going there for years too many new faces and it getting worse. Their pricing system is horrible.
I have been coming to this salon for 2 years. Bartola and Miguelina always do my hair. I am very happy with the services . Bartola gives me the color that I want. The price is right. No waiting period. This is truly an amazing salon. Everyone is very friendly . Thanks Reaction. I can count on you every time I want a new look.
Horribly inexperienced; they do not know how properly use their styling tools. If u want someone to rip the hair out of your scalp or leave your hair incredibly dry and brittle, please by all means go to Reaction Hair Salon. They will not disappoint. Also, the place is terribly unkempt.
Been going to Reaction for years. For the most part i like my hair but i feel like the condition of my hair can be better. I think water is added in the shampoos and conditioners to preserve, so i bring my own. They deff do use ALOT of heat (most dominican salons) on your hair. When i get home, i touch it up exactly the way i like. They deff need to learn English cause 90% of them can’t speak English but act like they know what you’re talking about. I think they should schedule weave appt’s. Other than that (lol) this place is not that bad.
My experience at this salon was HORRIFIC!!!! Naturalista Beware!!! I have been growing my natural hair out for 4.5 years and in one wash and set experience with this salon my hair was burnt and falling out in clumps. The salon owners did not take responsibility of the situation and I now have to nurse my hair back to health. If my hair was just heat damaged (meaning the curl pattern was damaged) I probably would be mad but would not go to the extreme of writing this review, but when my hair started to fall out in clumps that is a different story. Before I went to this salon I asked if they had experience with working with afro textured hair and the owner on the phone assured me that she did. They had NO clue. They did not detange my hair properly and constantly tried to use a small tooth comb, the products were horrible and did not put moisture back in my hair, and the excessive heat and rough handling of my hair demonstrated that their only goal was to straighten my hair and not to care for the health of my hair. Due to the experience with this salon I am left with bald spots and hair that is weakened and the density is much thinner. When I called the salon the owner took no ownership of what happened and told me that maybe I had alopecia. My hair was healthy, thick, and on my back when I entered the salon. The only issue that I had was that my hair needed with be washed and that it was dry. I good deep conditioner could of solved that. The deep conditioner that they used on my hair was no good. I would NOT recommend this salon at all!!!!!!!!!!!!. Lesson learned the hard way.
My 1 star was generous. Lady with blond hair was unfriendly, rude and degraded her co-worker for the quote she gave me to re-do my tracks.Needless to say, after 40 minutes of one of the stylists removing part of my tracks, then stopping to wash & roller set 3 other clients, I had the overwhelming feeling that this was going to be a bad experience so I told them I changed my mind and promptly left and went back to my usual salon, Impressions in Laurelton, NY.
Being new in town I was a little skeptical but I have to admit from my 1st experience and going forward, I have nothing but great things to say and I get so much compliments on my hair, Im so happy to have found them and NO need to go anywhere else! my hair is finally in good care!!! Thank you guys!! See you soon....
I wouldnt recommend this salon to anyone..I moved from New Jersey to new york and I was looking for a new hair dresser, I came across reaction. I usually do my hair every other week like was blowouts an so on but these ppl dont do a good job the always sloppy with the way they do stuff then when they get going you be under the dryer for one hour and more...I got my hair bleached here n all falling out Im going back to talk to the manager cause I might need my money back!!!!!
This place is incredible the service and the work of all the girls I love. They are very helpful and attentive to what one wants. Bartola makes some beautiful colors and at a good price, of course, it depends on the length of the hair and how thick your hair is. Not everyone can pay the same price because we all have different hair, I have it thick and I pay more, but it is worth it for the great work. What do they do. Everyone knows how to make beautiful hair whether it is a wig or natural hair. None of them are crude or racist. I say it because of the comments of some people who read

2022-04-22Staff are rude at times. Talk about clients in Spanish a lot. Use to go here for years and the service is horrible now. Use way too much heat. Last experience: called prior to last minute appointment and was told it was ok to come in. It was 6pm. I got there at 630 they were still open with clients in the shop and turned me away and told me it’s too late. When I called no one even uttered a time limit wasted time coming to this salon. And they were very unprofessional with the way they told me. Don’t go here ever!

2022-04-24I went here in May of 2021 and Im writing in December because they did something to my hair that was as damaging as a relaxer. I was reading the other reviews and what the woman said about putting relaxer in the shampoo makes sense. my hair was so beautifully afro-natural and i just wanted a simple blow out. They pressured me to get it straightened and my hair has never been the same since. I do not advise you to go here if you want to keep your natural afro because I now need to cut this whole thing off and restart again. I am extremely frustrated that these salons dont prioritize the health of natural hair. I was firm in saying I wanted them to cater to my natural hair and they still damaged it straight.

2021-11-07Do not go here!!! They put relaxer in their shampoo and conditioner. I have curly hair and I got my a wash and set for a wedding. After I washed my hair, my hair wreaked of chemicals and the smell of a relaxer which I know what it smells like. My hair was falling out and still is falling out till this day. I believe they do this to try to neutralize and not work out kinky hair the way they are supposed to. If you go here make sure you bring your own products.

2020-06-22When I was going in the beginning, it was good. As time went on, they charging me different prices for the exact same service. I get a wash, set, blow dry, semi rinse( I bring my own rinse ) and trim. Im not even getting a relaxer in my hair and yet still they re charging me different prices. It was convenient because it was only 10 minutes away from my house. I wont be coming back anymore. It s not fair Im paying different prices for the exact same service. Ill be looking into a new hairdresser I can afford.

2021-08-25Usually the customer service is good. I haven’t been in since the onset of the pandemic, but it was not the customer service I am use to. They were unorganized and because I was with someone who was getting a longer service they continued to let people in front of me. This is was unfair in my opinion. I was not satisfied with their services. I drove 30 minutes when there are Dominican on every corner to be disappointed.

2021-04-22I and my daughter have been coming here for years, to both the Baldwin and Westbury locations. Today I came in and sat there for an hour without being served watching other people who came in after me getting their hair washed and set. I am very disappointed as I and my daughter are repeat customers for years and pay and tip the ladies well.

2018-04-19Ive been going to Reaction for over five years. Nikki and the girls have taken great care of my natural hair and restored it to great health. They care about their customers and always deal with hair on a individual basis. The owner is a wonderful black woman who knows hair and all hair types well. They give the best services for the best prices. I will continue to go to them and im so glad my sister told me about them.
