Fun pop art sculpture. Very big so you cant miss it. Lots of people take pictures of themselves with it. While there take in the sculpture called Double Check that is diagonally across the intersection from red cube. This is a fun bronze statue of a business man checking his open briefcase. The sculpture, Seward Johnson, is grandson of one of the Johnson&Johnson founders
This huge (25 foot tall?) outdoor sculpture of steel and aluminum, perched on one end, survived both 9/11 and Occupy Wall Street (Thatβs a small joke, as OWS, which occurred across the street, at Zuccotti Park, was totally non-violent). Red Cube has been there for fifty years, I think. Just wonderful and is a delight to see, every time. Controversial new redesign of the plaza is afoot so you might want to see it now, before the original architectural concept is corrupted by the addition of trees, walls, seating. Red Cube will make you smile.
The big red cube is located on Broadway in downtown Manhattan, near Trinity Church. It was sculpted by Isamu Noguchi in 1968 and has stood here ever since. Itβs a striking sculpture, contrasting with the white sidewalk and the black skyscraper behind it. Itβll take a minute to cross the street to see this massive item & itβs definitely worth it.
The Red cube is an icon of Modern art installed in 1968 at 140 Broadway its creator was the artist Isamu Noguchis Red Cube in Lower Manhattan. The diagonal lines of red painted steel stand in contrast to the stark horizontal and vertical lines of the adjacent Marine Midland Building (by architect Gordon Bunshaft). The cylindrical hole running upward through the piece, as well as the cubes topmost point, draw the viewers eye skyward.
The big red cube gives me a sense of modern art, although it was made in 1968. What he means about it has not found any information on the Internet, but it looks pretty interesting. Walking along Broadway from the Bronze bull you can see, but you shouldnβt go specifically.
The Red Cube in Manhattan. Geometric, The Red Cube - Red Cube is a sculpture by Isamu Noguchi in the Financial District. It is a red steel cube, with a hole in the center. The Red Cube has a cylinder-shaped perforation. The work contrasts a lot with the surrounding landscape, the impressive skyscrapers. It is the color red in the middle of the different shades of gray of cement, pavement, and steel. I assure you that the urban landscape of Manhattan becomes even more gray compared to the gleaming sculpture. In addition, the cube is located in a way that seems to be unstable. However, it does not move, does not oscillate, nor does it risk falling, at all.

2022-05-06Howard Brubaker (Jack Lemon) from The April Fools (1969) movie brought me here. Actually I flew on Google Earth π from San Diego to 140 Broadway NY. I was pleasantly surprised to find the building and its red cube plus the beautiful 1930s building to its right all still standing and looking the same and beautiful as in the classic 1969 movie. Sadly here in San Diego, and LA as well, are full of transplant (non-locals) folk whove converged upon our citys governments and have zero respect for architecture of past thus demolishing so many historic landmark buildings to errect 100s of cheap looking eyesores like cheaply built condos and whatnot, half of which are to try housing the chronic homelessness problem which has become a virus of its own right here. Thats what I love and about NYC is how its peoples respect all their old history and building architecture of past.

2018-04-22As works of art goes this one really stands out as you leave the 9/11 memorial area and head towards Wall St. A Noguchi piece that has been in the same place on Broadway for 50 years , very distinctive against the black finish of the Brown Bros building behind it. very much a perfect tourist photo op.

2017-09-09Distinctive sculpture in front of the Marine Midland Building, where there is a large plaza where you can get a respite from the heavy pedestrian traffic on Broadway.
