Loved the atmosphere. The view of the river is incredible (I was seated on the balcony level). The guys was very good, but I wouldnt call it excellent. Portion sizes were modest, so I wouldnt recommend this location if youre very hungry. Still, breakfast was very pleasant and the service was above average. I would recommend trying this place out and will very likely return.
Awful experience all around. If I could give less than one star, I would. I made a reservation in advance online. I requested outdoor seating, which could not be confirmed. We checked in and were told there was a 1.5 hour wait for outdoor seating but could go inside for our indoor reservation. My mother is in a wheelchair and couldnt ascend the stairs for our table. We were admonished by the hostesses for not paying attention to the disclaimer in the reservation which apparently let us know there was no elevator. We were then advised that we were moved to the top of the list for outdoor seating and were seated in less than 30 minutes. There were were several empty tables. The waiter was also a bit aggressive, having stopped at our table asking if we needed anything because we were all staring at him. I was talking to my dad and not aware that I was staring at the waiter. At the end of the meal, I went inside - back to the hostess station - and asked for the check. She asked who my server was and I told her. She said he was generating the check. I told her I had to use the restroom and she told me to go ahead. I returned in less than 5 minutes and asked where the check was. I was told, with an attitude, that it was brought to the table, which is exactly what I didnt want. The hostesses, in concert, made some snarky comments about not being aware I was waiting for the check. WHAT?!I dont understand the lack of customer service and the lack of appreciation for business. The spectacular location is obviously the only good thing this restaurant has to offer. We will not be back.
There was a birthday that was missed for two Leos and these Leos were going to make it happen at Red Hat. What a great location for a celebration! Strongly encourage you to make your reservation at least 1 week in advance. But, do not be perturb when you ask for a outdoor table. There’s a backdoor to enjoying the outdoor, you’ll discover that as you continue reading. Our reservation was at 8:15pm. We arrived at 6:45pm. There is an outdoor bar, and any patrons of the restaurant could order from the outdoor bar, in fact it was encouraged by the maître d once we checked in at 6:45pm for a 8:15pm reservation. We ordered Champaign (individual size bottles which I love) and cocktails and found ourselves some seats overlooking the Hudson River. With views from lower Manhattan and stretches beyond the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, we sipped our drinks while enjoying the sunset.Once seated around 8:30pm, we started with the most delicious pan-fried crab cake, rillettes and salads. I highly recommend the crab cakes. For dinner we had paella and scallops. The paella was a generous portion vs the scallops which was thinly sliced (appeared to be more of an appetizer portion). The entrees were all very fresh, delicious and presented well. Our table had a few bottles of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape – (Grenache). We were not trying to do any sorts of food/wine pairing but picked this wine as it has a solid 4.3 star rating on Vivino and it was reasonable priced at RedHat.Ambiance = 5 StarsService = 5 StarsFood = 4 StarsCocktails = 5 StarsWine List = Good but need improvement.Looking forward to exploring more of RedHat menu items.
Greeters super friendly and keeps tables rotating but without feeling rushed.Bartender friendly but not intrusive.Outstanding viewsVegan eats review:Crisp cauliflower with the smooth creamy texture of cannellini beans and garlic aioli hit the spot.Filling but not stuffed.Looking forward to seeing more vegan options.Loved the old New York memorabilia as well check out the prices on the Maxwell Plum menu from the 1950’s for a kick.
Beautiful views of the Hudson River while dining! The chicken entree was delicious. The chicken breast main entree was very flavorful and the sweet potato puree along with the potatoes/brussel sprouts were exquisite. I had dinner on the evening of Independence Day and the wait time was long. However, you can place your name on the waiting list and have drinks from the bar by the side of the river while you wait.
Food is too pricey and portions are not worth it. Red Hat Burger too done, onions were disgusting and the frites seems they were hanging around and too well done. Your website says the Red Hat Burger is not $24 and your dessert is not $13. False prices and there is no lunch menu. Will not go back. You get better food at a diner without the fanfare. Did not have an outside table even though reservations were made. Inside it was so nosy, you did not have pleasure to talk to your friends. Our check came to $166.01 Did not order drinks as they are too expensive.
We were there to eat lunch with our service dog but the manager was unexplicably rude and would not seat us. I would even understand that but I cannot understand the level of impoliteness - she practically swore us off. There are many other wonderful places to eat nearby with much friendlier service - choose those!
I reserved 2 seats for my wife and I literally 1hr before going and was able to get a great seat for our birthday celebration. The food was perfect! One of the best burgers I had in a long time. They paid attention and actually gave me a medium cooked burger with aged cheddar. The fries were also perfectly cooked nice n crispy. My wifes salad was fresh and nicely portioned. My favorite part are the little warm up snacks they provide before and after your meal. A nice little touch to the classy interior and wonderful views of the Hudson River. Keep in mind this was winter time, I will definitely be coming back this summer to enjoy that rooftop deck.
Red Hat on the River was spectacular. From the moment I walked in I new I was going to have a good time. The host are friendly and accommodating and the servers and very ate and professional. We sat outside since it was nice summer day. The view though cant be match for that price. On one side you have the Cuomo bridge and in the other the George Washington Bridge in the distance and topped with the palisades right in front of you. Another plus is that there is free parking accessible for guests and the train station is 2 minutes away walking. By far one of the best restaurants by the water that I have ever been. This is a true gem. The burger was cooked perfectly and so were the sword fish tacos. I highly recommend this place to anyone in the area or anyone that lives in the area and still has not been to this restaurant. The key lime pie is a must.#paradise #redhat #view #vibes #ambient
Red Hat on the River was a great find. A very unique place with spectacular views of the Hudson River and great natural lighting! Sunday brunch was outstanding. The brioche French toast was delicious and drinks were perfectly made. The decor was a delight to view and the overall ambiance was relaxing and enjoyable. One of the best parts - the overall service. The Manager really shined. She was attentive friendly and had a really good presence and rapport with seemingly all customers and staff. She was a delight to speak to every time she stopped by our table. We look forward to returning soon!
Overall, a good experience and good food. However, the team needs to communicate better and have food more readily available.I had to pick my third option of dinner because they were out of the first two options. Specials were sold out but the server offered it to me. Just some communication would’ve fixed it.
Came on a wed night and everything was amazing. Got seated right away, didnt have to wait. The service was great, very attentive and the food came out very promptly. Every thug was very good, the swordfish was cooked perfectly. And the desert key lime pie was fantastic. Overall would recommend to friends and would definitely come back.
Our first outing to a proper sit-down restaurant after over 5 months of lockdown (thanks, China)... the new normal defined a new fun experience for us about 20 miles north of New York City in beautiful Irvington. Check their website for up to date business hours. They put up a weekly schedule.Social distancing in effect, which means, carry your masks. No masks, no entry! The restaurant is taking every precaution to make sure they dont contribute to any more outbreaks. Beverages are served in glasses but the food is served in recyclable to-go boxes. All servers and staff wear masks at all times, and plenty of places where hand sanitizer dispensers are available. At times it still feels frustrating to accept this new normal, especially with my little 9-month old, who I wonder is consuming this new normal in his own unique way?We ordered a bottle of red (Joseph Drouhin, LaForet, Burgundy, France @ 40), and some snacks, Zucchini fries @ $10 and Redhat fries @ 9. The Zucchini fries were really good, although the portion size was slightly smaller!Id definitely recommend this place for their food, excellent service, and some beautiful views!
Went here for a going away / engagement party for a brunch sort of lunch thing...very nice space. Great looking bar downstairs, upstairs was the dinning area. I the food was good I had the salmon, sadly I cannot remember what else...but the bubbly was flowing and the desserts was pretty looking and tasty!
One of the best restaurants I have been to. The service was phenomenal and the food matched! The short rib bourguignon was the best I have had. The grilled salmon and asparagus was great. Topped it off with 2 delicious cocktails- espresso martini and a pear cocktail - and desert - chocolate pistachio pot de creme and gelato/sorbet was amazing. Highly recommending this place for a relaxing dining experience or a romantic date... with the indoor and outdoor seating, water views and beautiful decor...
Really enjoyed dinner at the bar except…. The music played is way to dated. As a guest enjoying a night out w your special someone you want to hear something more upbeat and uplifting. What was played makes me want to take a nap. If I’m a bartender here I want music that promotes energy and “feel good”. People drink and spend more when they feelThat energy. It’s simple math! Bartenders were exceptional!
Nice place. Great view. Nice setting but.. we waited 55 minutes for our food to arrive. No one checked on us or apologized for the delay. When we complained to the manager, a blonde woman, she got nasty with us and blamed it on the pandemic and short staff. The pandemic and short staff didn’t stop them from filling the restaurant to capacity with probably over 100 guests. Charging top dollar for cocktails and food. This may be appropriate for a friendly type of restaurant but not for a high end restaurant. the managers behavior, refusing to take responsibility for the screw up is unheard of. I wouldn’t want someone like her to manage my business. I don’t think we will be back. unfortunate, because it is a lovely place.
This is a super cute French style restaurant right on the hudson river. My husband surprised me with brunch reservations- front desk staff was super nice. We had a very nice server, named Erica, but mid service our table was switched to another server, who was meh. I ordered the morning sandwich- I asked for no salmon & my egg to be fried harder than poached as how it supposed to come. Received the sandwich with a poached egg(ugh) & its supposed to have bacon.. had to search for the bacon .. I had a total of about 1 piece when it was all said & done. When I order something without a very expensive ingredient I expect the kitchen to make up in other ways, this was not the case. My husband had a tomato/cheese omelet which did look delicious. I doubt we will be back - so so service (we felt like an afterthought) when our table was given to another server- my breakfast sandwich was a disappointment for sure.
For a meal for 4 that costs 330 before tip having only ordered 3 cocktails one should expect more.Appetizers:Daily special gnocchi was more like mini potato dumplings than gnocchi. Salmon tartare was unseasoned and slightly fishy. Shishito peppers that were supposed to contain “bacon jam” was just melted cheese and bacon.Mains:Bin mah bowl was bland and the pork just ok. Short rib was far from properly cooked, it should fall apart and it was far from that. The paella was fine although they served two unopened (and therefore uncovered) clams.Overall not that impressed, especially given price point.
Had a lovely dinner and ENJOYED the food & atmosphere… but the best part was THE CUSTOMER SERVICE. If you are comfortable with your life & lucky enough to enjoy the company you are with and a fabulous meal…. The EXPERIENCE is ALWAYS AWESOME WITH SUPERB CUSTOMER SERVICE!Having been a customer for years, THE HOSTESS, CHRISTINA, is FANTASTIC regarding Every Way possible to ensure a POSITIVE experience at Red Hat! I commend CHRISTINA as well as the food/service as she is the first contact we had and her attitude, smile and quick wit was a wonderful way to welcome us for the evening! Great Night ;-)))
From the beautifully refurbished riverfront building to our sunset view from our second floor table. What a lovely night. Our service was attentive and on point. The menu is rich with plenty of options taking you around the world with flavors and dishes from all over our blue marble. The creative cocktail menu kicked off our night with the perfect Pear Vanilla Martini and the flavorful Redhattan. Highlights at dinner were the Spanish Paella featuring a creamy rice base filled with Chorizo Sausage and Seafood offerings and the Braised Short Rib dinner made my dinner companion swoon over the cooked all day flavor. We cannot wait to visit again.
Very friendly staff. Did not rush me. Had the chicken paillard with salad and the butter cake. Was a really hot day and they gave a nice cold bottle of water. Even the water server was super friendly. When youre at a restaurant its not only the food but the ambience. Chicken was deliciously seasoned and cake delicious. I can see why its a popular spot.
The hostess was very helpful when I called to get a reservation as well as with check in. The food was delicious. The drop in 2 stars was due to the waiter. When I asked for suggestions, I was just given the condescending and default answer of my palate will be different than yours. Understandable, but not even a description or comparison of tastes? It was just so disappointing after having heard great things from friends who have dined there.
Went for Easter dinner last weekend. Great location with beautiful river views. Our server was just the right amount of attentive and everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The cauliflower appetizer was amazing - we just wished the portion was a little bigger!
Amazing place with a great view. Drinks on point.Food talkin… little under my expectation.Starters Avocados toast and shishito were very good but portion small.Main course lobster spring roll and pork bowl. Dry and missing seasoning. Both of them.Beside that a great time. Just expected a little more even more when you paying $11 a draft beer which isn’t even a pint…
We had indoor seating since you can only reserve indoor and the wait for outdoor was long. We were seated right by a wide open window in a cozy corner just for us. Perfect for our anniversary! The pear vanilla martini was delicious and so were the shishito peppers as a shared starter. The salmon was just okay...served over a cold vegetable salad. My husband had the paella risotto which he liked but didnt blow him away. The desserts were good but again not spectacular.Service was perfect! Everyone was absolutely lovely and kind and friendly. We felt truly welcomed and taken care of. The view out the window was lovely and we were able to stroll along the river before heading back to our car. Very romantic. So for the vibe and the people working there its absolutely lovely and I may go again (though its a bit of a drive from home) just for the great environment and that pear martini.
Red Hat has a redicious reservation system too complicated to discuss on this post . Day boat scallops,a special, were cut in half and then prepared so 5 half scallops was your portion, hanger steak ordered rare was medium at best and chewy. The view cant make up for how they treat reservations and the attention to how they prepare their entrees. The only saving grace was out server was very pleasant
Went here on a date and we had reservation. First let me say the staff were lovely. Very friendly and accommodating as my date had a leg scooter and was unavailable to go upstairs. Secondly the view is absolutely beautiful. It is truly right on the river. We sat inside by the window. Why I gave it 3 stars... The food was not good. We started with the special, which was a cauliflower dish. The cauliflower was mushy the beans that were around it also mushy. The dish needed salt so badly but when I think of a restaurant like this especially being French it should already be preseason so that was very disappointing. We also ordered the housemade rillettes, this was just okay I just had better so it was disappointing. For entrees we ordered the Colorado lamb shanks and the salmon. Lamb shank had a interesting taste almost vinegary which was off-putting. However the portion size was nice and it was braised well but the flavor was just not good. The salmon also a nice size portion however needed salt and seasoning it was just blend and basic. With being unsatisfied with our food they took back the lamb shanks and we got the muscles and the banh mi rice bowl. The Rice bowl was good however its not French it was nothing special and the muscles were okay Ive had much better so again disappointing but the fries were very good. The best thing we ate which sadly says alot.I will try here again in hoping that it was an off night but I will come for brunch instead and sit outside and just enjoy The view. From my review its really on you to take a chance for the ambience I would go just dont have over expectations about the flavor of the food.
Disappointed with this restaurant. First the bad service. My wife and I waited 45 minutes for a plate of 2 very small pieces of bread with avocado on them. This was $14!! Good thing we had a gift certificate and actually didn’t pay for this. We also waited another 45 minutes for our main meals. The salmon I ordered was partially cooked rare. I only ate it because I was very hungry. My wife’s meal was the burger and fries. She said the fries were near burnt, probably being the ending of the fries batch that was cooked. We looked at other people’s plates and their fries were cooked normally and not very crispy looking at all. The burger my wife ordered said was very salty. We got the ending bill of 98$ for 2 meals, a very small appetizer, a beer and a sangria. Then the waiter asked us how much tip we add on to our bill which basically put pressure on us to think of a dollar amount. All in all, way too expensive meals and drinks if you don’t have a gift certificate. Also, terrible service and food was not good for the price. Definitely don’t recommend this place!
Drinks and appetizers were very good and our meal was excellent as well. Service was exceptional (Mynor was our server)and the owner Jimmy was very friendly and happy to make sure we had a pleasant experience. We will be back in the warm weather to enjoy the views on the waterfront.
Lovely evening experience and a welcome change from all the quarantine. We got a table for two right away even tho they told us it would be an hour’s wait. Food was pricey but very tasty. Lovely view and great attentive service. Everyone practiced social distancing. Food and drinks came fast. I’ll be back for the burger!!
Really a pretty view of Hudson. If you want to eat lunch outside best to know people get there early and stake their table well before opening. First come first served. Food not bad but generally way under seasoned. . Rediculous for the prices! And also because its seems to be highly rated?!?! Chefs should bewau more cognizant of standards.
If You Dont Mind A Little Rudeness With Your Meal, This Is the Place for You. My wife and I were celebrating our 38th anniversary. I spoke with Christine (Christina?) to make a reservation and asked for a window table at 6:30. I cant do it at 6:30 but we could do it at 5:45. OK fine. Reservation confirmed. We show up at 5:45, but no, they wont seat us at a window table (view of the river and bridge) because we never guarantee a window table. Hmm. Then the logical follow-up question is, why did you tell me to book at 5:45 instead of 6:30, as originally requested? I mean, if you cant give me a window table at 6:30, whats the point of telling me you could fit me in at 5:45? Still trying to puzzle that one out. But that wasnt the worst part. Christines attitude was that we had offended her, and that we should have known better. On our way out (we did not stay to eat, considering her attitude), I asked the young woman at reception, Is she your boss? Is she always nasty like that? And Christine hurried out from inside to the reception and said, Yes?! Yes?! Is there something I can do for you?! Whoa, girl, attitude much? My suggestion? Go to Sembal, just around the block, with great food and, unlike Red Hat, a very friendly staff! I gave this review a 2 and not a 1 because the restaurant setting and food are great. I have been here many times. Why I would be treated so harshly THIS time (and I mean, actually rudely, which is just...strange) is, well, beyond me. God bless Red Hat on the River, I wish you success, and I hope you recover your old friendliness in the future. If so, well be back. But, as you can understand, not for now...
Waited 45 minutes in a long line outside. Then waited 1hour and 30 minutes for the food. The fries came fried and the waiter stated that’s how they cook them. After we ate for 11 minutes they removed the plates and brought the check. I understand it’s corona virus time but we are actually sitting outside. I will never spend my money in this place. Thank god it was a 125 dollar gift card. The view it’s nice the food and the service are not.
The pork bowl is so flavorful! The chicken breast also a winner. Wasnt a fan of the salmon dish. The keylime pie is very*tart so if you like subtle lemon maybe not for you. The chocolate pot de cream was good but skews to dark chocolate flavor so if your more into milk chocolate then not for youGREAT summer views.
Good food, fast service, and a fantastic view of the river! Theres a beautiful rooftop bar (drinks only, no food) on the third floor with a gorgeous view of the Hudson River and the NYC skyline in the distance. I ordered the Steak Fritas - I would give a 6/10, it was good, but not quite matched with the price. (I will say, it was properly cooked - I ordered rare, and it actually did come rare). Atmosphere was wonderful. Overall restaurant was a very nice location, my company did really enjoy their food more than I did mine. Would definitely return and order something else!
This restaurant is wonderfully aesthetic, inside and out. All the food and drinks were absolutely delicious, tumeric margaritas are my favorite here! The salmon tartar appetizer is impeccable, as is the seafood paella entrée. An excellent choice for a fun time out and guaranteed good meal, I cant wait to go again!
Rude staff and terrible service. The staff would not accommodate us when we asked for our table to be moved due to bugs everywhere where we were seated. Other tables were clearly available with the same amount of seats. Avoid this place as it’s not worth your business.
We made reservations a week in advance and drove an hour to dine there. Pretty disappointed. The staff was disorganized, my mother in law asked for bread 3 times because our food was taking so long. (We got it after the food arrived) She was given the wrong entree. And no one checked on us to make sure things were good. My meal was tasty, so was my husband’s but with everything else... definitely would not return
I just love this place...The only thing I think can be corrected is that you have to have a phone in order to see the menu due to the pandemic...What if you dont have a phone? Why not print cheap disposable paper menus for the customer? They can be disposed of after all ordering is done..I found the phone menus inconvenient, when paper menus can be a resolution and make it easier for the customer... Other exclusive restaurants do this...Other than that, great food, great service and wonderful atmosphere whether sitting inside or out! A bit pricey, though, for the size of the food portions ..
Beautiful view of the Hudson River.Went there for lunch. Sitting outside you are right on the river.Went there during the pandemic and felt totally secure with social distancing rules.Excellent food.Expensive. Hamburger is $22 with very good French fries. Crab cake sandwich was also $22. Big lumps of crab. Came with excellent salad which included peaches, apples, feta cheese, and pumpkin seeds.Want to go back.
Service was not so good as before. Maybe the staff is smaller now because of the pandemic. But notably I expected better service. Of course the view is amazing and the food is good. Also, you see the staff & manager going around and making sure the service is great of people they know. But if you are not an habitue, not sure this happens. Anyway, it worth for the view.
The service was awesome - staff were very friendly and accommodating. We sat upstairs, which has a great, semi private feel to it. The seafood appetizers and entrees were delicious. The burger was ok. The drinks were good, as well. Im assuming the view is great during the day. We went in the evening, so it was a bit too dark to enjoy it thoroughly.
I was out of town and looking for a place to eat dinner with my wife. We found this place while searching online for restaurants in the area. This place has good reviews so we figured we’d give it a try. We arrived around 7:00 and the hostess told us it would be a 20 minute wait which was not a big deal because we didn’t make a reservation. It was a beautiful evening so we waited outside and watched the sunset over the Hudson River. Exactly 20 minutes later the hostess said our table was ready. Our server took our drink and food order fast. The food came out fast and was delicious. We declined dessert and was there maybe an hour. The prices seemed normal for the area and we would come back if in the area again.
I went to this place on a rough day. My mind was not peaceful but I had to go because it’s my friends who wanted to cheer me up. I am so glad that my friends picked this place. Started with drinks at the bar; the service was so great and we were chitchatting a lot. Food was great, the ambiance was very pleasant and it soothes your mood.Wonderful experience overall.
We called ahead to make sure we would be able to get seated as we were coming in from the city. They said it was first come first serve but we should be ok to get a seat. We arrived an hour later and they said they are booked and no longer taking names even on the waiting list. Ok, fine - we didnt technically have reservations. They offered one of their picnic tables which they said operate as to go tables, we said that was fine. While we were sitting down we saw that waiters were going up to the picnic tables and they were getting plates as well as cutlery and their food was being brought out like the regular tables. However, when we ordered our food everything was brought out in to go boxes. The appetizers which had salmon in it came out, then was brought back in, then they brought it back out to us - in the summer heat that salmon was likely already going bad. When we inquired about why our food was being brought out in to go containers while the other picnic tables were getting served like a regular table, they said those other tables had special treatment... I kid you not. We didnt even touch our food. Got a refund for all of our food, paid for our drinks and left. Will never come back. Half Moon is a few minutes away and a world better in their service.
We went for brunch today with a 12:30 reservation. This was my first time there. The view and decor were nice, and the service was very good - Amore was our server. My blood orange martini was very tasty. I ordered the breakfast sandwich from the brunch menu. It was OK - the poached egg was overcooked and tasted more like a hard boiled egg. There was only a few tiny bits of Canadian bacon. The smoked salmon and croissant were tasty and the fries were hot and crispy. My lady ordered the French toast. It arrived burnt. She returned it and awaited a replacement. The replacement came just as burnt. She told Amore that it was inedible. She took it back and a gentleman came to our table a few minutes later. Amore told us he was the owner (Jimmy?). He said that was how they have been preparing the meal for 10 years. We told him it was burnt and inedible. He left without another word. Of course we were not charged for the meal but our experience was extremely tainted.
Place is lovely and atmosphere wonderful. Hostess very welcoming and accommodating, however, the service was not good. The waitress kept forgetting about us. Had to ask the busboys to find her, get our drinks, bring bread, etc. Unless you like your steaks rare do not order one as the Chef apparently refuses to cook your steak to your liking. Had to send it back twice and both times it came back just as rare as when it first was served to us. Food is mediocre. Would suggest going for drinks and sandwiches when you can sit outside.
Went last night for my wifes birthday. Service was excellent. We were seated quickly and had an attentive courteous staff that paid attention to our every need. French menu had a tasteful selection of choices. Everything we ordered was excellent! We are so impressed that my wife said the next day her taste buds are STILL satisfied! (And thats saying a lot!) I must repeat, dont think twice about going here. You wont be disappointed!
Odd find a m the Hudson River but a experience. It wasnt outdoor weather but inside was warm and welcoming. Food for brunch was diverse and not limited to typical brunch offerings. Wait staff was attentive and warm. We were very happy arranging for an 8 person get together and will visit more often. Reasonably priced for Westchester, casual, and a pleasant meal. Cant wait for better weather so we can done Al Fresco.
This has become my girlfriend and my go-to place since we moved to Tarrytown. Red Hat has excellent food, and good service. Anywhere you sit, youll get a good view of the river- the back walls are lined with mirrors, so you can look over your dates shoulder and see the view shes looking at if you want to. They dont take reservations for outdoor seating, but you can catch a great sunset view from indoors as well. Seasonally, the rooftop bar is wonderful.
Have eaten here many times and the food and atmosphere is always superb!! Went there for Mothers Day today and it was wonderful. We got there early and were seated right away by a lovely hostess. However, the waitress was sub par. Hardly saw her throughout the meal and a busgirl had to take my second drink order and bring me my check. The busboys and busgirl were way more attentive than the waitress. Aside from the lousy waitress it was an excellent experience and I would recommend it highly!!!
Its an oK fancy restaurant. Prices are high and food portions are small. They have a view tho. They want to follow Covid rules but dont enforce it. Its literally walk with a mask and take it off as soon as you enter and nobody will say anything about it. Drinks are $15 a pop but they are good. We had the Paella, barely enough for 1 and it was good. We also had the beet Poke, its a salad nothing else. No fish.
This place has a lovely location and a wonderful decor. It was an amazingly pleasant place to sit and talk for a few hours. What kept this place back was the food - it just wasnt worth the prices. The options are all okay, but they lack the distinct identity and flavor Id like to see in a ~30 dollar entree. The menu also lacks theme or consistency - mussles and fries, burgers, seared tuna, steaks, and avocado toast are all great but dont go beyond hey people like to eat these so lets serve them and charge a lot for them. If you have a gift certificate, it is worth it. If not, I would not spend the money. The drinks are quite good, so coming just for the bar may be worth it.
Where to begin? First off I didn’t think we were dressed nice enough but when I asked the hostess she was more than happy to seat us anywhere we liked, so we chose the bar. It has commanding views of the small dining room along with beautiful river views. Behind the bar we met Liz, who might be the best bartender/server I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She was attentive without being overbearing, made excellent recommendations and had a personality that made us feel right at home. We can’t wait to get back to check out the rooftop and front patio along with some great cocktails and food.
Pros- Beautiful setting and views. Great Sunday brunch. Use organic ingredients when available. Outdoor seating when weather permits. Cons- parking although free can be difficult if busy. Reservations highly recommend especially during peak hours. I would have given five stars except our server brought out the wrong dish for one of two orders placed.
The service was poor and the food mediocre. The waitress was missing for most of the 75 minutes we waited and waited to be served the next course. She never returned to ask for a second drink order which was disappointing because it was the one very good part of the meal... The Sea Scallops were salty. And only half of our dessert order was delivered; the second dessert arriving much later. This was overall a poor dining experience.
We are a long time customer. Great scenery. Best time to be is 2 hours before sunset. Foods and dessert used to be better and the price used to be a lot lower. The best part, they served dessert with dinner fork now. :(Best place to be are either on the roof deck or patio outside.
I have eaten here about a dozen times and used to look at the menu. I dont look at the menu anymore I just order the best Pork Chops on the planet. The sauce and sides are perfect also. If you are with a party of four or more order the mussels dinner as a table appy (wonderful), make sure you ask for extra rolls (good rolls) to dip in the sauce. The atmosphere is great. not only are you right on the Hudson but you get great sunsets over the Mountain and a view of NYC to your south. Our favorite restaurant, PERIOD!!!! People who rated less then 3 stars just cant be pleased. If it is going to be your first visit I promise you it will be outstanding. Ask for a table downstairs when making reservations.
Bustling crowd at lunchtime. Make reservations in advance if a group is anticipated. Varied selection of appetizers and entrees to choose. Yummy desserts to cap off the meal. Let them know if you have any dietary needs, theyre very accommodating. Wonderful for casual and special occasions. Lovely views of Hudson River from within, upstairs or street levels and at the river front. Moderate pricing.
Decent food, service how ever, can be improved. Very nice setting for the type of restaurant. A personal rating for this restaurant would likely be 21/26/18. Decoration is create, has a warm feeling, but service and food can be improved to create a 4 star restaurant .
I used to go here all the time from 2015-2017. Service was always great, attentive, and the food was AMAZING. In 2018 this place started going down hill. My steak wasn’t fresh it was definitely reheated...Service was also very bad and disrespectful. I decided to give red hat on the river another chance this week, at least my steak was freshly grilled this time but the taste was just meeh, service wasn’t great either. Also love how the prices went up significantly in the past two years.
Wow. Such a special place. Went for a rehearsal dinner and Red Hat nailed it. Service was not only thorough and readily available but also so nice and easy going. The venue itself was beautiful. We arrived at sunset and caught the sun setting as Manhattan skyline slowly lit up. Great photo ops from restaurant patio.Definitively recommend!
Very good location. Sits on the river bank. Good bar and good menu.A bit pricey. And veeeeery loud inside. So, I would not recommend this for business dinner or a date. However, that is okay in summary time when they have outside sitting (in high demand though).Upfront reservations recommended.
We had a reservation but it was not crowded on Monday night. Very good experience - service was fast, food was delicious, river views were superb!Staff was very attentive, their timing was perfect on everything. They are really paying attention to details, like empty water glass, napkin on a floor, extra fork, etc. But not hovering over patrons, we felt comfortable. We were all really pleased with this visit.
My husband and I went to meet a party of 4 who was there having dinner. Food looked good and nothing against the waiter. My issue is with the manager and hostess. When we asked if they could add 2 chairs to the table so we can join our friends for a drink we were told its against policy and we could go sit at the bar on our own. Really, was it so hard to add 2 chairs to the table? Just makes for a sour experience for everyone involved. We were told servers cant get around, however the spacing between tables at the outdoor seating area was ample. Just horrible customer service. Never again. If you need any flexibility this is NOT your place.
My family chose this place for Thanksgiving, and I knew it was the right place as soon as I walked in. We were greeted by two lovely hostesss and were immediately taken upstairs to our table. The room and the view were sensational, and a very busy place. One of our servers brought us menus and a wine list, which we ordered from. The meal began; lovely first courses with crusty rolls. The turkey dinners were to die for, as well as one short rib entrees. We ate and ate, and were not rushed. Many servers would check on us periodically. Dessert was fab, I had the creme caramel. We lingered for about 21/2 hours just enjoying everything. When we left we walked to the river and had the most glorious sunset to end our perfect day. I absolutely will go back at Thanksgiving or any other occasion. To all the staff at Red Hat, thank you for a memorable experience.
Location is beautiful. Love the coziness and views. The food was disappointing. I really wanted to love it and find a new favorite place. We ordered the heirloom tomato and mozzarella salad, tuna tartare and the duck confit to start. Cant go wrong with mozz an tomato, tuna tartare had zero flavor, duck confit was ok but the mustard sauce was what saved it. We also ordered a dirty martini and the cucumber muddled gin - not bad on the drinks. At this point though I was a bit concerned about the entrees so I tried to go a bit safe and went with the braised lamb and the NY strip. The steak came medium well (ordered medium) and the braised lamb and risotto were very bland, lacked any flavor. We wanted to experience it all so we ended with the creme brulee and cappuccinos. Prob best part of dinner. Overall I wouldnt return, I was sad I didnt love it.
The food was good, the views were wonderful and our server was great; however, when it was time for us to leave a member of their staff was EXTREMELY rude to a person in my party, so it is doubtful I or any of my friends will be returning to this establishment. Especially since there are other options in the area.
I thought this place was just another bistro type bar. I was very wrong. One of the best meals Ive had in Westchester county. Good, well trained staff, attentive, food that arrived hot and perfectly cooked, wide range of choices on the menu, this on a busy week end night. A bit too loud, but upstairs was more quiet and you could still see the river.
My husband & I went to dinner here last weekend for Hudson Valley Restaurant Week. Servers were all very attentive. The food was delicious. The restaurant is in an old warehouse and has a nice open feel to it. Its situated right on the water and they have some outdoor patio area. We plan on going back in the Spring to dine outside near the water.
I had a company dinner here in early December of 2014 with 4 co-workers, by chance we were celebrating my birthday as well, and it was a great experience .The service was solid from start to finish, our server Meg was personable and accommodating . Our glasses were never empty . Nice view facing the Hudson- must be great on a summer night on the patio. The food was excellent- started with the Red Hat salad, which was a good start .The short rib beef bourgignon was top-notch, the Claiborne steak was fantastic, and the double-cut pork was savory and tender as we sampled each others dishes. Good wine list , and the desserts were a wonderful finish . The profiteroles were decent, not great, but the entire dinner experience was positive, polished, and memorable . We will certainly be returning .We did spend a lot of money here, but we have spent more at other restaurants in Westchester and received less .Very highly recommended .
It was packed on the Saturday night when we went here. Lucky we had reservations. The food was mediocre, friendly staff, good service. Pricey for what you get. Its not Manhattan, but they are priced lije it is. Very pretty setting directly on the Hudson River. If the evening is comfortable, eat outside.
Grossly overpriced food and drinks. Our bill for two people $163.00 with tip which included one mixed drink , one beer, an entree which included 1 1/2 sausages , and a second entree that included a half chicken breast. For dessert was 1 $11 thin slice of key lime pie. Admittedly It does have a view second to none but I think Mp taverna is a much smarter choice. MP taverna is in the same development as Red Hat. Just my two cents....
Along the Hudson River with Spectacular views sits the Red Hat serving up American French cuisine. Delightful luncheon, moderate pricing, service attentive. Would like to see a price fixe luncheon menu. Post lunch we sat River side in Adirondack chairs and took in the sun and views of the Tappan Zee Bridge. Wonderful
Had the pre-fix menu during Restaurant Week and it was amazing all the way through. Had the Hanger Steak, which can be had 3 ways, and it was cooked to perfection. Ambiance was cozr with Hudson River views from any seat. Parking was excellent and the staff was extremely courteous and knowledgeable about the menu. A definite keepernon the restaurant rotation. Delicious thumbs up
The location, like the name says, is on the Hudson river. It was already dark but watching the massive islands of ice travel down the river was a sight to see. I would love to go back during the summer and eat outside. The staff was knowledgeable and the timing of the courses was on point. It was cold outside, so I ordered the onion soup. It was good. My companion had a beet salad with fresh mozzarella, fennel and blood grapefruit. She had a positive physical reaction while the waitress described the salad and it didnt disappoint. It was a great layering of textures and taste. For our mains, she had the scallops and I had moules and frites. Everything was done to perfection! The scallops were perfectly pan fried and the white wine sauce on my mussels was so good that I was soaking the french fries. My eating companion ordered a glass of red but didnt really enjoy it. The server told us that the wine list was listed by light to dark. She chose the second on the list to get a light red but it was strong and dry. I cant imagine what the bottom of the list would be like. I actually ordered a mixed drink from there menu. I believe it was called the black bear. It was strong and delicious! It was bourbon with black berries I believe.Great food, great location!
Love the atmosphere, love the food, and they have the best Pomegranate martinis with little ice crystals in the drink. My friends and I agree, Red Hat is one of the best restaurants in the area and located right on the water!! No need to go into NYC with Red Hat in the area.
Fantastic snow storm dinner place! Our friends birthday is Valentines Day, and we always try and find a destination restaurant to go to (being NYC residents, Irvington is a destination, especially in a snow storm!)We arrived, and were seated in the upstairs area. What struck all four of us is that the place, while big, open, airy, and made of brick was that it wasnt loud or echo-y. Made for pleasant and normal dinner conversation. For my meal, I started with the crab cakes. They were not hand-formed, which was a disappointment, but they were light and tasted great. Topped with a slaw (a bit too much, but I like slaw!) the hidden gem of taste was some wasabi-lime remoulade and seaweed. Just the right addition to the crab cakes. My entree, as suggested by our server Lillian (who was terrific) was the swordfish tacos. Five little two-bite tacos presented on a wooden board, and they were just great. Could have been a bit bolder with flavor, but nonetheless these really hit the spot! For dessert, we shared the Something Chocolate, and that was just the crowning touch.Thank you Red Hat and your entire staff for a terrific evening!!!
Nice place, good food good service. Although when we tried to make a reservation for 5 for early dinner, 5:30, they told us there was no room. When we arrived the place was empty. They then made room for us upstairs. It too was empty. We left close to 7 pm. Still the place was not busy. This was on a Friday evening. All in all it was good.
If there was the possibility to put 6 or 7 stars I would. Marybeth the owner and Joe the bartender are the best possible people I could have ever eaten with. Im just some random guy that came into this upscale establishment with a graphic tee shirt. Let me tell you this is the best PORK CHOP I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. Wet and soft all the way through and full of flavor, served with some incredible spinach and bread pudding. Joe the bartender made me 3 drinks not on the menu when I asked him for a surprise, he came up with the most creative and appealing drinks that just force your brain into a state of satisfaction. Great service, kind people, personable atmosphere. Seriously ask Joe the bartender for a surprise drink, he never lets you down, dont tell him I said this lol.EDIT: In addition JOE made me a custom cocktail that COMPLEMENTS the taste of the pork chop!!!!
I gave Red Hat 3 stars because the service was fine but my eggs Benedict were served over bread that was so hard I asked for a steak knife and bread was cold. Potatoes were completely over cooked and hollandaise sauce had a strange flavor. Not what I expected seems to have gone down hill.
Very nice slightly upscale restaurant overlooking the Hudson River. Quinoa burger was good. Plenty of choices, steak and frites, cubano sandwich, salad nicoise. More relaxed in the bar with high top tables. Good choice an a warm day. Some seating outside along the river. Irvington is an old rivertown and this restaurant is in an old factory. Little bit out of the way (up and over the railroad tracks) but dont give up, worth finding it. Only 10-12 minutes from I-87 or Saw Mill Parkway and close to the Mario Cuomo Bridge.
Recently visited the Red Hat and specifically its roofrop bar overlooking the river. Location and charm of the renovated warehouse is nothing short of amazing. The view from the roof is beatiful especially during the evening. Cant speak to the food since my group did not have any. Two stars because of the two rude and un professional bar tenders working the rooftop bar on 8/20/16 otherwise great place.
We had a romantic time. Food was decent (I had my tuna cooked too much for the lack of sauces/marinade/toppings to be offered) - crab cake is just that, no fancy lump meat - the one piece of bread is good, so keep asking for more rounds to = 3 to be quarter full, lol and the Strawberry Sangria is to drink if youre on a date. One glass is a strip tease at home, 2 or more someones getting laid. Delicious AND effective. Wonderful ambiance for love or first impression.
I took my girlfriend to dinner last night for her Birthday and we had one of the best meals ever. The pork chop was perfectly seasoned and cooked. My girlfriend had the short ribs which were the best she has ever had. Hands done incredible experience and the Chef Reyes Hernandez is increasingly talented.
Went here for restaurant week and although the food was delicious, (had the onion soup, quinoa burger, and ice cream sandwich), the waitress was less than sub par. She took more than 10 minutes to come and take our order after handing us the menu, and it was not busy. 430pm on a Sunday. Also, when she dropped the entrees off and came back to ask if everything was ok, she never came back. Not to say dessert was coming out (I had to notify another waitress), not to give the check to us (because I asked the aame waitress that I talked to about dessert), and not to say thank you, goodbye, or anything. I shouldve known from the beginning she was going to do less than a stellar job. The worst part was she talked to EVERY SINGLE table around us, and each time she walked by ours she didnt even look over. It felt as if she was purposely ignoring us. The other staff, the server boys, and the other waitress that helped, were all nice but this one waitress pretty much ruined the whole experience on what is supposedly a 4 star and above restaurant.
I was so disappointed by the food here. I just moved to Sleepy Hollow from the city last year and I’ve been missing some of my favorite restaurants. I had high hopes for this place but our entrees were very, very bland. Well-cooked but no flavor. My sister also went recently and had the same experience.
You will not find a more fabulous place than this. The food was the best Ive had in a long time. I will be back for more. Hopefully tomorrow! The staff was attentive and provided information regarding the menu with detail.First time here and will be back again! Thank you!

2022-04-03Fantastic meal with an amazing view!!Would highly recommend reservations for the weekend. They did not have any tables available on a Saturday night but we were thankfully able to eat at the bar. We were still able to see the beautiful sunset on the river out of the restaurants windows as we were eating dinner. We were given complimentary potato chips at the bar which were so tasty and clearly homemade. Our actual meals were absolutely delicious. We ordered a strawberry and arugula salad with chicken paillaird and the banh mi rice bowl. Could not recommend either enough.Drink options were also great having got the Mezcal cocktail and a glass of red wine. The bartender was definitely also one of the highlights for us as he was extremely friendly and courteous. The price of food and drinks is on the upper end but it was very much worth it given the view and atmosphere of the place. We will absolutely plan to make a trip out here just to be able to eat at this restaurant again.

2022-06-22Came here with my wife on Friday for Fathers day weekend dinner date. The views are beautiful and they have 2 out door options, one infront by the water and a rooftop deck. It was very windy so we chose to sit inside and there was not a wait. The drinks were delicious and my steak and fries were cooked perfectly. My wife got a fried Brussel sprout salad that she didnt really like. I hate Brussel sprouts so I didnt taste it. Its a beautiful restaurant a little pricey but we knew that coming in and definitely worth coming back especially for the view.

2022-04-25Food was good. The avocado toast it’s delicious! Went for brunch and tried the French toast which was really good, I just wished it included a side of eggs or sausage. Also, I tried the burger and it was very good as well. The food presentation was nice and the staff very very friendly and attentive. It was my first time there and I would definitely go back. Finally, the view it’s a plus! Try to go when it’s not too cold and sit outside right next to the Hudson.

2021-08-16The place is beautiful that is if you sit outside...food is good nothing extraordinary but very few options. Otherwise I would have given a 5 star. Must go to enjoy the scenic view of the Tappen Bridge on one side and the beautiful mountain on the other side. 😊👍

2022-05-20We had dinner on the patio and enjoyed the view of the Hudson, which was fantastic. The food was pretty good but the prices were incredibly high for the relatively small portions. I would have written a better review but they tried to charge us $200 for three bottles of very mediocre Merlot when in fact we just had three glasses. I didn’t get the impression that was an accident.

2021-08-09Fantastic location and a beautiful restaurant. There was plenty of parking and space by the water to wait until an outdoor table was available. Also, there was an outdoor bar to enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail.

2021-08-11Over 30 minute wait for five bite-sized fish tacos ($20) entree that came with no sides. The restaurant wasn’t anywhere near capacity. $16 for a glass of Dewars on the rocks (a bottle costs $22!!!). At least the presentation was good.
