Red Hook Pool in other cities:
The staff is very nice and polite. My family and I forgot our lock once and a member of the staff watched our bags while we swam. The locker rooms, however, are a bit suspicious; the paint on the floor is chipping and many of the locks are broken on the lockers. There is also a bunch of chipped paint at the bottom of the pool, but the water itself is very clean. I go here often and enjoy it.
Went here today with my 1yr old. Very clean pool, staff was nice and aprochable; however they are strict and they uphold all policies. If your not comfortable with your body you can wear a cover up but it must be white no exceptions. All toddlers must wear swimmers even if they are potty trained unless they are completely out of diapers of course. They provide free lunch which is a nice touch. We enjoyed ourselves and will be back.
At 330ft by 130ft, theres room for everyone at this private Red Hook pool. Its part of a recreation center, but anyone can become a member for a budget-friendly yearly rate of $100. Members can enjoy the pool as well as the gym, but must bring a combination lock for valuables. Bonuses include free swimming lessons and plenty of great eats nearby.Pool hours: 11am-7pm with a break at 3pm for cleaning.
Im not one to post many (if any) reviews, however I feel I owe to myself and my family and other parents who to speak the truth about this place. We headed there for family day, we loaded our kids in the car and packed everything we could possibly think wed need at the pool. When we got to the pool we were quickly approached by the security guy at the front who told us how annoyed he was by people like us who used the ramp to take the strollers up and made him move the barrier so we could pass through to be checked at security. Honestly, I could have moved it myself, but he wanted us to go back and carry the stroller up the flight of stairs... at this point me and my family were really confused but we followed his instructions. This was our first time at this place so we were not aware of the rules but we wanted to learn and follow the rules. However the two security people at the front were really nasty because we didnt have everything to perfection and the lady there just kept rolling her eyes at us and giving us an attitude, she even said not today lady and giving us the nastiest look. They were annoyed because my husband doesnt completely understand English and I needed to translate. They were just giving us the hardest time and when I asked for their names because Id like to speak to a manager or file a complaint, the guy and lady who were mistreating us said we aint got no names. We felt unsafe, like we were going to get beat up at any given point and we decided it was better to leave. This goes beyond New York attitude. These people are bullies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get better staff, treat people better, this is supposed to be a PUBLIC place to go for fun not to get pushed around by nasty bullies and feel unsafe. Security staff bullying the public, what a joke.
Pros: very big and clean pool with lots of staff members: 15 lifeguards and 2 cops. Pools depth never beyond 4 feet with an access for wheelchair people and two lanes only to swim. (They make you take a shower before entering)Cons: too many rules, no grass (only cements floor), no umbrellas for the sun, too few sun-beds.You cant bring near the pool sun cream, toys, food, and many more. No cellphone allowed either!
For being a public pool the facility is exceptional. The staff is understanding. It does have alot of rules so be prepared to hear the lifeguard whistle often. The 2017 it is going thru some renovations but it is still a great place. They also offer the free luch for children which is a big plus cuz you know kids get hungry while playing in the water and they have the picnic tables for you to eat at. The biggest plus for me is the kiddie pool it is 10 inches deep so I tell my children they are in a big bathtub and it helps them get used to the water quicker. Also unlike other public pools the water is not freezing. I love going to red hook pool!
👉 😔 bad treatment 😠. I GREW UP ON 3 BEAUTIFUL BEACHES IN THE CARIBBEAN AND HAVE TREATED VISITORS TO THE CARIBBEAN WITH RESPECT AND KINDNESS. Traveled far to enjoy this pool. First day 2 weeks ago was beautiful, no complaints. The people were very nice. Yesterday I felt humiliated. A Chinese young girl, a swim observer/lifeguard loudly pointed me out because I turned back shortly after starting to swim because I thought my daughter wasnt feeling well. She gave me no chance to explain.Afterwards she kept observing me the entire time in between her reading a book despite many others doing much worst wrong things which she did not address. I was the only one she called out. I felt discriminated. Later after we got out of the pool before others and were getting our stuff from the locker, a black female guard placed herself in a chair and kept staring at us for a long period of time. We felt uncomfortable as we were the only people there. We asked what was the problem. She explained we were the only people left and we were late. We hurried only to see many other guess come into the room in swimsuits and started to undress into street clothes taking their time. This is the height of discrimination, humiliation and being singled out. We were a minority race there, maybe 3 out of 100. It maybe related to the first incident. Dont know. We are Registered Nurses who have cared soooooo much for the sick and to be treated this way is inhumane. THIS 😰BAD👈 TREATMENT WAS SO OBVIOUS THAT OTHER SWIMMERS WHO WE DONT KNOW CAME TO US AND LAMENTED ABOUT THE WAY WE WERE TREATED. However the rest of the staff were very nice especially the front desk folks who take the cards and a young slim pretty cleaning woman so polite and respectful. Others should follow their behavior.
Checked out this pool after a neighbor suggested it. This pool is much bigger, and the scene less crowded and frenetic than Douglas & Degraw Pool. I like this a lot and will visit again. The showers are warm but the dozen-or-so curtainless stalls are so cramped that I would rather have no partitions. (This may be because when I went to shower, there was only one other shower in use; if there are times when all showers are in use, then I would rather keep the stall partitions.)The main pool is 3 9 deep and the wading pool is 1 deep with sprinklers.
Very nasty people as staff members. They advised us we needed a locker but as first time comers we hadnt brought any lock so they told us to bring back our bag to the car which we did keeping only towels bathing suit and shorts on. Once inside they wouldnt let me and my daughter go because no shorts were allowed on deck...so their supervisor (as rude and stupid as all the others) called my husband already at the pool to come and see me. I handed him our 1st year old so she could at least enjoy a swim with her dad and we all left as they wouldnt let me in and my daughter was calling me all the time in the pool...! Ruined family day because of very rude and idiotic people! While we left another one even added another unpleasant remark! As our experience was not enough! DO NOT GO!
The White shirts (bosses) at this pool are unreasonable, lazy, and unfair. They close the pool 20 minutes early, lifeguard bosses are sleeping on patron chairs, dont let children eat free school lunch, and they smoke on deck. VERY UPSETTING EXPERIENCE. I Dont recommend coming here
Vast sections of the pool closed out. People all crowded to one side...swimming lanes crowded to the other....Everything in between empty, cordoned off, closed out, not for lack of personnel, for sure, lots of teens working as lifeguards and many others with the parks shirt on. This on a 95 degree day, 5 PM, last week of vacation for kids.Deplorable.
Wow whats the point of going to a pool if every time you try to have fun in the water they blow their stupid whistle.then on top of that the employees are so ghetto and rude.they think they better then you because they work there.ha thats funny! All im trying to say is red hook should lighting up a little on the rules like i know safety is important but come on..all those life guards are lazy and all they do is know how to blow that dam whistle...this is the reason why i stopped coming to red hook..i went yesterday it was fine but then today was a waste they started telling couples they cant hug or hold each other in the pool and that the kids couldnt hold on to their parents backs while in the water..like come on whats that about and telling people that if they warn you more then 3 times you will be fine and cant go to any pools in the 5 boroughs really they have to take it that far ..its sooo stupid and i believe that is wrong... I warn all visitor if you go to red hook pool be prepared to be watched like a prisoners and hear those whistle blow every 10 secs.ok dnt play with your kids by hand no touching allowed dnt even hold your partner god forbid...i hope if i do decide ever to go back they lighten up on the whistle blowing and let familys have fun..
After lining up for 20min in a heatwave got told no lock no entry. Nothing on website said this. Parks NYC Lady was disinterested about telling us where to buy a lock just kept saying how my wifes dress would get stolen. Wouldnt even let us have someone guarding stuff.
Its one of my favitore pools, but if they seen that the crew cant clean the silve part on outer part of the pool. That why all these pools have fugus on outter part.Looks nasty, and that just take mins,to keep the silver part shining not Rusty .Plus baby pools need to remove those rocks and cover them, with some plan.small kids get cuts from it.but over all Red hook poolchiocy, second chioce,First choice is Barry Pool in Flushing love it.

2022-06-29This pool, though well maintained, is genuinely one of the worst experiences in Brooklyn. I understand maybe having certain restrictions at a public pool, and that these restrictions are across the board in nyc public pools, but the enforcing of them is simply too much with little reasoning. I had to beg to be allowed in to watch the child I came with without a bathing suit on. It took literal convincing to be allowed to sit on the side to make sure a seven year old didn’t drown. And so many of the workers are so mean and condescending for no reason when you have an issue. Only one girl there was pleasant. Do not come to this pool unless you are prepared to have issues with the people there. There a far better pools in nyc.

2022-06-30They are racist. They won’t let muslim women in because of their religious clothes! Worst experience ever. Rude, racist, and unprofessional!

2021-09-12The pool is nice but the rules are the worst. My kids were so excited to swim but they left the pool crying. All because of the swimming clothes they were wearing. The rules are very strict especially for people that can’t wear swimsuits because of there religion. The staff were okay–the staff that were outside were nice and kind but the staff that were in the pool were very mean. We left the pool very disappointed and heart broken. Worst experience we ever been through.

2021-07-21A great public pool. Lifeguards are friendly and fun to talk to. Convenient proximity to Carroll Gardens too. There are lots of children, but the vibe is fun. Make sure to bring a padlock for a locker as they don’t allow you to bring bags on the pool deck.

2021-08-16Went there at 6:20 just to do a couple laps before they close, I got in but my wife wasnt allowed in. A woman stopped her and told her they were closed. My wife listened, sat at the gate. Then a family with children came, also were told the pool was closed (it was 6:30 now, I was swimming already), and the parents began arguing with them about closing time until they let the family in. My wife was still not allowed in.I get it that all the pools close at 6:45 to prepare for the 7pm closing and I obey this 100% of the time, but not letting in people in at 6:20 is ridiculous. This is a public pool, we pay for this with tax dollar, the hours are the hours.

2021-09-11If you arent swimming make sure to have all white outfit or dri fit pants and white shirt on. Pool is 4ft throughout and big. No phones, floaties or swim goggles that cover the nose are allowed

2018-07-05The management here could make this pool so much nicer. Theyre supposed to have a cleaning break every day from 3-4. The day we were there they closed at 2:45 and didnt reopen until 4:25 and there is no shade to stand under as you wait in line to get back into the pool. Also after the extra long cleaning break we found multiple chicken bones in the water, enormous clumps of hair, and even a lighter bobbing in the water. With how strict they are with what is allowed on the pool deck, I dont know how those things even get in there in the first place.

2019-07-13Just recently went to the pool and it was awesome. Me and my son had a blast. I talked to the lifeguards and they were extremely respectful. As a doctor, they looked like they had heat exhaustion just by the looks. Maybe they need an A/C or a fan. Mostly 10/10 would come back with my other children.

2018-09-02This is s great place to be if they fix the flooring and deck around pool! The flooring of the pool is full of cracks and you can get cut! Also they should follow the policies about not allowing kids that gets sick back into the pool I was there when a child vomited from pool in the deck and staff just came and clean it and allowed the child to keep swimming in pool they should be more careful with this situation due to all bacteria that can stay in water.

2019-07-16Great pool once you get in. This summer starting from opening day they have opened late for numerous reasons from not having life guard equipment to waiting for a pool part. The staff leave people on line in 90 degree weather and dont say what the hold up is. Today a child threw up while waiting on line for over hour. We left when they hadnt opened by 12.
