Love that I have a new favorite place now that I discovered this gem after visiting Fort Tryon park nearby. I wanna return for fajitas or other events. Good chips & salsa. Coffee was meh. Torta was decent but no wow factor. Id like to try their tamales and Chile relleno. The guy host wasnt very friendly, not great social skills considering hes the first contact as customers enter. The female staff was awesome! Super friendly and very interesting.
The only thing that was good was the margaritas. The food was not good. My husband ordered the steak and eggs from the brunch menu and the waiter asked how would he liked it cooked in which he said med rare. What he got was two small thin pieces of steak that was so over cooked and dry. No sauce to help it. The over easy eggs were overdone. I asked for the club quesadilla with rice and I go it with fries. The waiter seemed nice but the food was not good. We ate half..took it to go...but then tossed in in the trash on the way home. I dont understand the high reviews for that food. Ugh.
Good and consistent place with very friendly staff! They have good lunch/brunch specials and happy hour as well. A free basket of chips and salsa to begin with is also a nice treat. Outdoor seating is a plus when the weather allows. Their fancy margaritas are interesting, or just go for their classic happy hour deal for yummy and cheap.
Best Mexican restaurant in NYC, Ive had my sister birthday there and the food, service and atmosphere was excellent. Ramiro the waiter was always attentive and very happy to accommodate me, family and friends. The bartender made the best mojitos and drinks I ever had. Thank you so much for your excellent service and great atmosphere. Ill definitely be coming back to this restaurant.
I love this spot! They provide fantastic dishes, their menu is nice, The chef in that spot is a real authority in the kitchen, I like a lot eating all their food. The dishes are always fresh, the service towards the visitors is efficient. I visit often this restaurant and I was never unhappy. I highly recommend it.
I adore this place! They give splendid food, their menu is nice, The chief cook in that restaurant is a professional, I enjoy a lot eating all their dishes. The food is always of high class, the attitude towards the clients is friendly. I frequently visit this place and I was never unhappy. I recommend it to all my friends.
Ive tried many dishes from their menu and have not been disappointed. Good ambiance to have a nice brunch, lunch or dinner. Also the servers are nice. The only reason i do not give it five stars is because they change the type of ice-cream used for their fried ice-cream. Please use the ice cream used before! It made it so delicious.
It third time Ive been here within the same amount of weeks. Second time with a friend who has also fallen in love with their amazing Black Bean soup. Its perfect on a frigid day pr evening. And if you need a little something more, add their Mexican Rice. Were talking yummalicious!
Ever since I was introduced to this restaurant Ive taken everyone here. The best food and good portions, excellent costumer service, all drinks are on point, very nice vibe and the owner will actually take care of you, which is rarely seen in other places. Will recommend for any kind of occasion and Arnold one of the waiters there is simply amazing and spoiling.
Arnold is the best server ever. He’s super friendly very attentive. I recommend doing a cultural night where he can cook his food and give people a new perspective to the restaurant. He’s super passionate about his job. While I was there he offered me a sample of the margarita and made sure I was well taken care of. He deserves a raise. Food was great and in good portion. Will hop in for the lunch special
Great food, well priced, and attentive staff. I have eaten here a few times, and am always happy with my meals here. I need to come try some of their margaritas because they look great. I have had the burrito, tacos, and of course their guacamole. Fresh ingredients and good portion size. It can get busy at times, and we waited a while to get our check, but will still be coming back again soon.
Went in for a quick meal after a long day. Everyone seemed nice upon arrival except the bartender - which was disappointing because I was sitting at the bar. I asked a question about how a drink was made. He gave a vague answer and then balked when I noticed it was from a premade margarita pitcher (which is exactly what I was asking to avoid). I said Id go ahead and take the drink and he just ignored me and poured it back into the vat of margaritas. My food order took forever to arrive. Maybe he forgot to put it in? I didnt complain. I just waited patiently. After a few bites I decided to take the rest home, mainly because one of the waiters was drinking cold/flu liquid medicine right next to me at the bar. Bartender barely acknowledged me when I said good-bye. To top it all off, when I got home I found a short black hair inside my quesadilla. Grossed out and pretty disappointed overall. I feel like this place is probably not always this bad but its clear when this many things happened in one visit, theres an overall lazy vibe to providing quality service. From the front of the house to the back of the house, I hope they tidy up their game for the sake of their success.
Absolute worst customer service! Avoid at all costs! Ordered food from their website. Got two confirmation email receipts with my address and what was on the order. Food arrived an hour and a half late, cold, congealed, and incomplete. Called to complain and ask for the rest of the order and the manager accused me of not putting my complete address on the order, and that the rest of the order that we were charged for and was on OUR EMAIL RECEIPT was not included?!? Asked for a refund after being yelled at for several minutes by the manager who then insisted we return the food in order to get a refund(???). WALKED THE FOOD DOWN TO THE RESTAURANT, and showed the two emails that came from their website. My address and the full order was shown on both emails. Manager claimed thats not what HE got, so it was our problem. We didnt build their website! He charged my card! So unprofessional. Will never eat there again!!
Wait to be seated. At 1:30PM with empty seats and staff floating around waiting 5 minutes for someone to greet me. After being seated no menus were provided for another 5 minutes. The environment leaves a lot to be desired. I left before even tasting there food. Avoid at all costs or just make sure you are vocal and request service ASAP.
Decent atmosphere. We were sat out in the back section, which is both under repair and still in need of repair. My 6-year-old nephew banged his leg against a plastic panel which was being stored directly next to our table. The backyard dining is reminiscent of a basement dining room quickly put together, as the general household items have yet to be put away. The food came out in a timely manner and the staff was on point. Each member of our party enjoyed his selection. I would recommend, but be cognizant of what is stored around your table prior to sitting...
I went here with my girlfriend. We are known as the Bean Team, so to give this restaurant 5 stars is a true reflection of the merit of this establishment. They had a plethora of vegetarian options. I got a Cancun Burrito and my girlfriend got a chili relleno. Our meals had more flavor than Washington Heights has hills. We had refried beans on the side, as the name of the restaurant suggests, and it was so flavorful it felt like my tongue was bouncing around in a bouncy castle. We are happily in a food coma right now.In addition to the delicious fare, the service was top notch. Our waiter was speedy and attentive, placing warm chips and fresh salsa at our table the moment we sat down. We also noticed food went out of the kitchen to our neighbors’ tables in exactly the sequence it was ordered. Everything that went past our table smelled fantastic. The decor on the wall completed the scene. We particularly enjoyed the portrait of Frida Kahlo.Though it was painful to climb the stairs from Overlook Terrace to Fort Washington, it was completely worth it for this neighborhood gem. We look forward to many more meals!
Chill spot. Music isnt overwhelming. Food is delicious and the drinks are on point . The super Coconut margarita is on point. The Complimentary nachos are warm like of they were made fesh in-house. The salsa isnt too bad either, its got a mild kick. Decor is comfy. Love the outside seating. A rare in the heights. Moderate pricing. Worth trying out out of all the Mexican cruisine spots around the neighborhood.
Damn solid Mexican food. Damn solid. One of the things that plagues some of the places in this neighb is consistency. but Ive ordered from retried beans probably 10 times and its been good every time. Pork tacos are great. Guacamole, which any self respecting Mexican place ought to do well - is awesome. Worst thing that ever happened on an order was the chicken in my fajita was rubbery. Not every piece. Just a few pieces. One order. I love this place.
We waited patiently for the place to open. Advertised as open at 10:45 am. We thought plenty of time to get settled for FIFA kick-off. We arrived at 10:30. 10:45 comes and goes. Staff tells us they are opening at 11. At 10:55, staff comes to put out their board sign and we ask again when theyre opening and are told doors wont open for another 15-20 minutes. Sorry - you lost 4 customers who tip well for courteous service.
Anyone who serves vegetarian chimichangas are a-ok in my book. Place is a little small, but I did not feel cramped when I went with a group of friends during the dinner time rush, on a weekend night. I love the decor with their tables you sit at which have a clear class atop what seems to be sectioned off boxes with various types of accouterments one would put inside a Mexican dish. Food was excellent and despite the crowd, we were served relatively quickly. I would definitely stop by again when in the area.
For the third time in a row, Refried Beans has delivered disappointment. The price of their guacamole has gone up from 7.95 to 9.95, but the size of the container shrunk to half the size. The spicy sauce that accompanies their burrito was also worthy of Lilliputians and only came half filled. Their burrito included beans and sour cream—when we had requested neither and it was ice cold, which complemented the ice cold tortilla soup nicely. We’re finding another Mexican restaurant.
An average Mexican restaurant. Excellent atmosphere; the tables, the artwork, the terrace, are all charming and make you feel like youre in Mexico. Quesadillas are excellent, and the food overall had improved over the years, but its not particularly memorable..Id give it 3.5 stars if I could (but I cant, so Ill round up). However, the name--Refried Beans, really? The place used to be called Ta Cocina, which was much more charming, compelling and inviting for a Mexican restaurant, but apparently had to be re-named due to another restaurant of the same name somewhere else. But, a little more creativity wouldve been nice in choosing a replacement name! Also, the neon sign they had installed a few years back is a little tacky when compared to the rest of the signage in the area. But the name and signage shouldnt deter you from trying this spot out if youre in the mood for Mexican! You may not be impressed, but you wont likely be disappointed.
I placed an order at 4:40 pm. I called at 6pm and they said it was on its way. I called at 7pm and they said it left 5 minutes prior to the call. I called at 8:30pm and they said they misplaced my order. Order never arrived. Never again will I give this restaurant business.
Let me preface by saying I had so much hope for this place. My Mexican friend from Texas picked it out and its so far away from the rest of Manhattan so I figured it was legit. Its not.I came here for a huge birthday party so I will give them props for serving us all.
They give you a hard time when you go with kids, the service was awful, the waiter for the 2nd time was very mean, there are no managers around, my sister passed by there & I invited her to join us they refuse to give me a seat for her, is not a welcoming place & is not a family oriented restaurant I will not recommend there service, I like to be treated like a human bean , is nice to eat at a peaceful place where everybody is welcome.
Very bad experience, had 3 hours and had consumed 230.00 and we were waiting for 11 people for a birthday party and then the manager of the restaurant and with very bad attitude told us that we had to leave the restaurant because we had 3 hours and more people needed the table,

2021-07-20So I might be biased about this review and place because I developed a schoolgirl crush on Jonan the bartender. 😂🤣😅 He was just so sweet, kind, and attentive so the fact that hes easy on the eyes and he wore a pineapple hat, just did it for me! I have a thing about pineapples so I took this as a sign. See, biased! But the food was great, the drinks were great, the ambiance was great, and so were the prices! I have to go back.

2022-05-22The food was pretty good actually —I have loved this place in the past and posted great reviews but this time the wait staff made me feel really uncomfortable for sitting at a table outside as I waited for my husband to meet me. When I arrived all the 4 person tables had 2 people at them but they did not want to give me the same. Wanted me to sit in the sun with no umbrella at another table. They continued to make comments and make me feel uncomfortable for being at a table in which I ordered a total of 6 margaritas and their most expensive fajitas. They brought me the wrong food at first and I sent them back. We will give the servers a good tip and then will likely never come here again. While I wax here I saw other tables with 2 order less food and drink and they did not say anything to them, while they kept asking me when my Husband would arrive over and over. It was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. Maybe they should take a breath. I just took one brother to a crisis center for mental health and the other almost died from Covid but is now in a rehab center —I just needed a respite and chose a respite here for some frozen Margaritas. The servers were NOT friendly and don’t deserve the tip I am giving them but I am a better person then them. I live locally and they have lost my business forever as a result of the poor treatment. Take a breath and treat people well. So very sad. I. Gave them a 2 cause the drinks and food was pretty good—the service was horrific!!!!! Shame on you !

2022-04-30My family and I come to this place frequently. We love the potent margaritas, guacamole, food and vibe. Today on my way out I jokingly asked the bartender for 2 shots for my 3yr old, he smiled and directed me out lol. Good laugh and a great night. Until next time amigos!

2020-03-122/8/2020 - Came in for brunch (weekends) right near opening so wasnt crowded at all. Tried out the Club Quesadilla and wow is it packed with flavor from the BBQ sauce and cheese! Also had the chicken fajita omelette and the vegetables were so nicely crisp, though the chicken was a bit dry. Very filling, cant wait to try the menu out during lunch or dinner.3/12/2020 - Lunch was very delicious, highly recommend their steak burrito or steak fajitas. The sauce on the fajita meat itself was a little clumpy, but still yummy!
