Worst hotel ever. I stayed there for 2 nights while taking the Bar Exam at the end of February, and I’m sure everyone else there would agree.Cons-- No housekeeping. The receptionist at check in asked me if I wanted to pay extra for cleaning! For over $300 dollars a night, I was surprised.- As others have mentioned, no bottled water.- Like most of the other guests, I ordered in room dining for breakfast for 6:30am for both days I was staying there. The food never arrived. Facing a lobby filled with anxious guests about to be late and hungry for their exam, the one receptionist showed no interest in figuring out what had happened. She insisted over and over again that we must be mistaken and that that we must have just not seen the breakfast sitting outside our door. She didn’t bother to go check. She didn’t seem to think that perhaps all of the guests could not be equally blind and wrong. Eventually, we all gave up and went to the buffet, where the restaurant manager was unwelcome and displeased to see us- in her words, she wasn’t expecting so many people and this messed up their expectations for the amount of food to serve.- Dinner again did not arrive for 2 hours after I ordered it for room service. The receptionist again asked me if I had just missed it. Eventually someone located my dinner and told me that I must not have heard the door knock. Yes, because there is no door bell on the door. I imagine whoever was in charge of delivering it just gave up and left and no one bothered to call me?- A random charge of $83 was charged to my room for breakfast. After asking 3 different receptionists at different times of the day to look into this, I was promised that the restaurant manager would give me a call. After not receiving a call for the next 4 hours, I went to ask about it. Apparently the charge has been removed but no one told me.Bottom line- disorganised and lacking in basic professionalism. Employees tended to blame guests and argue with each other over in front of guests over actually solving problems. Anything that is promised with go wrong.
The Renaissance Albany Hotel was actually a quite nice place to stay. We were up here for business and we had a few hiccups along the road. The negatives first. We had ordered breakfast to be brought to our room one morning within a certain time block and unfortunately it never arrived before we had to leave for our day’s activities. Naturally the front desk did apologize and we were not charged. The next day we decided to give it another shot and it worked out fine. Another unfortunate event is that in our particular room the drainage in the sink and the shower was quite poor. Again the front desk was notified. Lastly the internet service seemed to cut in and out and so happened to charge me twice for the high-speed internet despite me only requesting it for a couple of days. In other words my request for a couple of days was doubled. With all that being said though the staff was incredibly accommodating and attentive. The Wellington restaurant food was amazing. The room itself was delightful and incredibly modern and very spacious and comfortable. The place itself was very clean and sanitary. Overall the experience was pleasing which is why we give this 4 stars. To many people focus on negatives and are unable to look past them and allow for it to ruin the experience. Despite these hiccups which non honesty were minor we still enjoyed the Concourse, The Egg, and all the other attractions within the area.
Terrible service by Jackie Harol., the so call manager. My son called 4 weeks in advance to stay here for my niece wedding and was told the rate will depend on how many room are taken. He call 1 week before the wedding and was told since he call 4 weeks in advance he will not receive the wedding rate of $180, his rate is $360. Plus he said she was very rude and very unaccommodating. They also told him if he canceled his reservation, even thought it was 1 week before, he would still have to pay the $360. How bad is that, most hotel allow you to cancel 1 day before. I would not recommend staying here for any reason.
We had a block of rooms for our daughters wedding. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Although there were no bellmen due to covid, they still assisted us with our luggage and the gowns. We ate dinner at wellingtons. The food was excellent. They were able to accommodate various dietary needs including gluten free and vegetarian. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the issues related to celiac disorder. He was also very knowledgeable about the various beers and wines available. He got us in and out in a timely fashion despite one of or guests being terribly late.
This was the first weekend my husband and I were able to leave both our kids (4 and 1) since our honeymoon just before we had our first child. This experience was absolutely hands down the best we could have wished for. So comfortable and we both felt so pampered. The room was gorgeous and the staff was so friendly. Our room was very clean and I felt very confident that the hotel took our safety and that of the staff seriously with the COVID concerns many of us have now.
My wife and I wanted to see tour Albany. The Renaissance Hotel was in a prefect location to do that. The room was spacious and clean and the staff was courteous and helpful. The restaurant in the lobby was great for drinks and food. We enjoyed room service for breakfast and dinner and late afternoon drinks at the bar.
Very clean and free of any smells which is very common in many upscale hotels due to absence of fresh air. Interior finish and furniture grabs the smells and does not get away if fresh air is not injected regularly. Somehow this facility managed the room very clean and smell free.
Room was small but nice. No bottle water in room 727, shower door dosent closed, booked room with breakfast. Wasnt informed until we got dressed and went for breakfast that it was only through room services only. Was very disappointed, hotel didnt offer much of anything to do. Customer service is disappointing 😞 😒
Came for a wedding and was very comfortable throughout. The room was spacious, clean and stocked with lovely Aveda products. However, the best part of my experience comes down to the staff. Everyone I encountered was not only extremely kind, but they were helpful and knowledgable too.
I loved my stay at the Renaissance Albany! It is a fun, friendly, funky hotel, very well decorated, very comfortable. Friendly and efficient staff without attitudes, Dez was very welcoming at check-in, Scott got us switched into a room with a pullout sofa for my son on short notice and wouldnt take a tip, Katy in the lounge made probably the best margaritas Ive ever had (they went down so well I had 3 without realizing it...).Overall, a very excellent place to stay. If it costs a little more it is definitely worth it!!
I stayed at the Renaissance the night before and the night of my wedding as well as rented a larger meeting room for my bridesmaids and I to get ready in. When I arrived to the meeting room, it was filthy dirty (balls of hair on the floor, used q-tips, etc.). I had this room reserved for two years since my wedding needed to be rescheduled due to COVID. While I was getting my hair done I was informed by the manager that this room was booked by another bride and that we needed to move. Despite showing her my contract that stated that this room was reserved for me, she continued to accuse me of being in the wrong room and threatened to call security on me if we did not move rooms. Mind you Between staying two nights in a guest suite and renting this room I had spent over $1,000. She was yelling at me in front of all of my bridesmaids, hair and makeup and my parents. I asked if there was a way to get a refund for some of my money for this GIANT inconvenience on my wedding day and she said no since the room was booked for someone else (even though I had a contract stating it was for me, and I had payed for this room myself). She refused to be helpful and she was very unprofessional all the way around. Another issue we had was that the room I had stayed in the night before the wedding was going to be the room that my husband and I would be staying in after the wedding. We arrived to the room and it was not even cleaned from the night before. Beds not made, no new towels. All around a terrible experience to say the least. I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone.
We stayed for two nights, no room service was done. The provided body lotion was already used and one other guest had put his his glasses into the hallway, it stood there for two days. Also the floor around the reception was dirty, no one cared about. The remote did barely work. Small things that add up. Which is a shame as it is a very nice place to stay.
In town for a work project, loved the location, close to a variety of eating places. Easy to get to underground hotel parking & walk to the front desk/elevators. Friendly staff, ease of check in/out. The restaurant inside the hotel offers a nice option for eating in. Room service was great, food from either option was exceptional. Room size, room features, bedding were really good. My view of the capitol was amazing!!! I would definitely stay here again!!!!
Gorgeous room with a great view of the Capitol. Very clean. The only downfall is no locks on the bathrooms.Would have given the hotel 5 stars, but gave it 4 stars for this reason : We stayed here for my daughters wedding. What I was surprised and appalled at was the hotel let 2 people on 2 occasions into my daughters room without any ID what so ever. All they told the hotel was that they were part of the bridal party and they allowed them in her room. Not a good sense of security AT ALL.
After a hectic week of traveling and moving my son into a new apartment, this was my halfway stop on the way home. And it was perfect - gorgeous accommodations, a super comfortable bed, excellent food, and such wonderful staff! And the hotel itself - it was stunning and so full of history.
I worked with Laura Petrovic when booking a block of rooms and two conference rooms for our wedding events. She was extremely helpful and professional. She made the entire booking easy! The hotel was beautiful, staff was great, drinks were good! You cant find a better location! I would recommend the hotel to anyone.
Very pleasant and safe stay. It was our first hotel room since the pandemic. Room was clean and offered a small package of sanitizing wipes.. Our room was spacious enough to take our morning virtual exercise program. Room service breakfast was exceptional my steel cut oats were hot and perfect texture. My husband had a delicious vegetable omelet.
This hotel has great rooms, at decent prices. However the staff are very off-putting. The hotel design and theme are inconsistent. The Bar and restaurant hours are limited, and the bar staff was miserable. The entire time we were in the the restaurant bar the general manager couldnt stop talking about her entire home and kitchen remodeling project. She got incredibly loud after her 3rd drink. Very distasteful, but for Albany this seems to be standard.
The room was clean. Beds were comfortable. Night stand was a bit dusty. Convenient location. Situated in a safe area to stroll around. Breakfast was not up to par. Considering Renaissance hotel is Marriotts Category 6 hotel, the boxed breakfast was too pricy for mushy waffle and tasteless scramble eggs.
The Hotel was within the standards of the brand. While the place was clean and pleasant, the staff does not reflect the standing of the Hotel. I arrived at the hotel at 11PM and had to park close to the entrance to avoid running though the entire parking with my 2yo daughter ( I had to park my car between the 2 manager parking spots). In the early next morning, I had a note saying that this is not a place for clients but only for lazy managers who do not want to walk and instead prefer writing nasty note to their clients who pay their salaries by the way. At the end, this is not a place I would recommend for a family stay!
The Renaissance was perfect for my needs. The check in was smooth and efficient. The room was ok. As mentioned before the bed frame is tricky, but the bed is super comfortable. The bathroom was very large, however there were some stains on one wall, which was a little off putting. The in room dining was quick and the food was very good. I wish I could have stayed longer and seen more of the hotel. The restaurant looked nice. Overall, it was 8.5 out of 10
Ive stayed here a handful of times, usually for work purposes, but this most recent stay was for leisure. The hotel always looks clean and well maintained. The beds are comfy and the extra seating space is nice. The location is convenient for walking around town. We didnt eat at the restaurant during this stay, but Ive had breakfast before and it was tasty!
Used to be a great place. Convenient and excellent customer service. However, they did not make my beds or restock room, closed the only restaurant in the area on weekends for breakfast (we had to order doordash) and refused to seat guests after 7:45pm, so if you attend an event till 6pm then you better rush back and shower so you can eat. The bar was open and packed with very drunk people till 2am.
I really enjoyed my stay at the Renaissance Hotel in Albany NY. The service was absolutely fantastic. Top of the line food, quality everything, comfortable beds and pillows, spacious rooms, clean bathroom, and accommodating service. Beautiful attached parking garage and the best gym I have ever seen at a hotel. I recommend anyone traveling in Albany to enjoy the wonderful experience of the Renaissance hotel. The restaurant Wellingtons was absolutely amazing. Short wait times, beautiful views of the city, and comfortable spacious seating area.
If all one cares about is a clean room and comfortable bed, this is a fitting property. If you care for more than that, you may want to look elsewhere. Beware the poor WiFi and lack of dining options. The in-room dining menu states breakfast starts at 6:30am, but apparently it did not start until 8am the morning I was there, and orders cannot even be placed in advance. These gaps are even more disappointing for guests with status. I was unable to use my dining credit as I needed to leave at 8am. I was also refused a room upgrade, both in advance when attempting to use my suite night award, and upon check-in when I was told that all the premium rooms were dirty. In other words, inventory was available but they seemingly went out of their way to ensure an upgrade was not available to offer. Guests may also be challenged to find someone at the front desk. Both upon my arrival in the afternoon and when I left for a walk in the evening, the front desk was unmanned. None of these are reasons for me to return to this property the next time I’m in the area.
I understand the lounge is closed because of COVID protocols, but the $20 breakfast credit that they gave us didnt even pay for 1 breakfast let alone 2. The pancakes we ordered came to a ridiculous $28 plus the included tip of $5 and tax so 2 orders of pancakes, yes only pancakes no coffee nothing else was $35.28We spoke to a manager who said, it is what it is and also said that according to Marriott we only need to provide a continental breakfast. I had replied that I understand but the prices for an oatmeal and fruit plate (they do not offer bagels, toast, or muffins) was going to be $25 before all the extras. She again stated there was nothing they could do. We had asked the day before if there was any other place to eat and were told that nothing opens till noon. They did have clean rooms, but the prices of the food where ridiculous.
Luxurious hotel with Clean and personalized service.Located in Albany downtown - NY Capital city with unbelievable sites and amazing history. Easy parking ($ 17 per day )facility attached to the Renaissance. They have in room dining service available and restaurant on the property.
I would definitely come here again! I arrived very late at night and the staff were super helpful. They even extended the checkout time for us. The room was beautiful, new, and clean. The bathroom was spacious and very clean. I would recommend this hotel more than any other hotel in the area.
My friend and I were in town for the day and chose this lovely looking hotel. The front desk and staff were very helpful and friendly. (The bartender was a different story; drinks not made so well and he seemed in a foul mood.) Breakfast was sent to room in to-go containers; which made for a bit of a soggy situation but theres nothing you can do about that during covid. Rooms clean and comfortable. However, the towels were thin and old and AC unit hummed quite loudly in the room. A bit of a ghost town but we had a nice time overall.
As far as the aestectics go the room is well done. Its when you look under the sheets, except there werent any, you see the problem. The mattress looks like evidence from a crime scene. I have attached photos. There were no sheets for the pullout. My son had to wait almost an hour before any were delivered so he could go to bed. As for house keeping, we had automatic housekeeping set up. We got back to the room at 6pm, nothing was done. When we called down the answer was, there is no answer. We tried to make coffee the second morning, cream was completely coagulated. At the time of writing this I have 2 more wonderful days left here. Im sure there will be more to add.
I cannot blame this hotel for the location, but its a slight challenge to find it. Once there, a very good stay!I felt like I was on a Grand Prix road course taking sharp lefts and right till I got to the hotel and then finding the parking garage required more loop-de-loops!Once in it, my room was really nice. Excellent mood lighting, clean with Kuerig and ample space. As its looking at the NY State Capitol, several streets are closed for safety. The view is stunning though.A nice bar downstairs affords a drink before bed, so we were happy.I would stay there again.
Bar closed at midnight. No food service. What ever happened to a full service highly-rated hotel?Another disappointment.Ive lowered my stars since last night. Now I know why The Points Guy has all but given up on Marriott. This is supposed to be a 4-5 star hotel. No services, no food, they dont even refill the room coffee machine even after I specifically asked them to.Skimpy on towels. There is no reason to stay here unless you have State government business to conduct near here.A total waste of money
Overall my stay was good. Clean rooms, good service. My gripe is with the hotel restaurant Wellingtons. Their website claims they are open on Sunday. They were not. They provide “room service” from their menu, which was really just takeout delivery. This would be fine we’re it not for the hotel tacking on an 18% service charge. For that, I expect plates and actual silverware on a tray, not paper boxes.
We came for an event at the Capitol Center which is attached to this Hotel. We have been here 3 previous years for same event and this used to be one of my favorite places to stay. However, much changed. I am a Marriott Bonvoy Member and used app to request extra towels, shower caps and arrived to a room that had 1 bath towel. I tried to call downstairs and they did not answer their phone for 2 hours. I had my daughter with me and could not go there until 2 hours later to speak to someone in person. Room was not properly cleaned, refrigerator had coffee spilled from previous party. Beds were uncomfortable, but I assumed it was just me, only to hear from other guests that came with our group that they had same issue. Also, we had the choice of two rooms through the convention site and I opted to the one with more space. I was given a small room and when I inquired, they said I had the correct room, however, my friends who opted for the same room I booked all had a couch on theirs and we did not.I returned to my room the 2nd day after being at the Conference all day to find out it had not received a visit from staff, beds were unmade, no coffee available by the coffee maker (it was only stocked for 1 day).Bar was open, hotel was full and sold out, but restaurant no longer opens on weekends for breakfast, and there really arent any options nearby, especially if you have to be at Conference Center in the morning, so we had to doordash breakfast and eat at a chair at the convention centerAt night restaurant and bar were open, however the stop serving food at 9pm and were refusing any guests that arrived after 7:45pm. We had to doordash breakfast and dinner that day... We ate our delivered dinners at the restaurant as the Bar was open until 2am, but full of drunk guests who looked like they came from a wedding reception. Our party then left because one of the drunk guys from wedding party started to throw ice from his glass at other guests. Not sure I want to come back. I reported all of these issues to front desk but did not seem to matter.
Perhaps it is due to Covid, this hotel really does not meet my standard for a Renaissance hotel. The front desk is very nice and the room decor is beautiful. But the rest is just so so. No shower cap, no breakfast dining and there was a food stain in the mini fridge. Another thing is the hotel is very low staffed so often times there was no one at the front desk nor in the entire lobby. A bit deserted feeling.
Renaissance Albany Hotel was an amazing experience for my kids and me. We are on our first vacation since my wife, my kids’ Mom, passed away. My kids were blown away by the rooms, the location, everything. Their first words walking in to the room: “Ooohhh! Cool lights.” Followed by: “This is so fancy!” P.S. a very fancy hotel at a not very fancy price. P.S. the staff were all rock stars!! Thank you Renaissance Albany Hotel.
This hotel has beautiful decor and the food at the restaurant is very good. However there was a pubic hair in my shower and when I told the manager, she said she would send someone however no one ever came. Spoke to front desk staff early the next morning and was told a manager would call me however still no response. Checked out @ 11:30 and was given a card to call a number to complain. It was completely gross and disgusting!
Do not bother. I regret wasting points to stay here and to upgrade my room. The front desk associate was terrible, she was extremely uninterested in being helpful and failed to explain basic things one expects upon check in such as check out time, meals, incidentals, etc. Every phone call I had to make to her was horrible and she made my experience suck. Furthermore, the room was clean but random things were neglected - part of this hotel is the view of the city but the windows were dirty. The shower was cold, the bed definitely seemed small for a king. The cordless phone did not work so I had to make every call on speaker phone. The remote for the TV was sticky. The food was OK and the person who delivered our breakfast was nice - you could tell the kitchen is trying their hardest in these times with COVID19. Definitely regret booking here and will not again.
We encountered a number of problems. We were not told on check in that our room would not be cleaned, nor asked if we wanted the room cleaned. When we got back late the next day and saw the unclean room, we went to the front desk to ask for towels, at least. We were asked what towels we wanted, and were told they would be delivered. We then received 1/3 of what we asked for, no explanation or call given. We also hadnt been informed of the car parking charge on booking the room. We were also not informed of the free WiFi we could have used during our stay when we checked in.We were also never informed that the streets around the hotel would be blocked for July 4th fireworks, and had to wait in our car til the roads were opened and we were able to park. Knowing we are staying through the fourth and are paying for parking for 2 cars could one give some heads up that at least it was possible the roads would be impassable by people and police so we could plan accordingly? It was also very noisy inside and outside the hotel at night, (not only on the 4th) so it was hard to get an reasonable nights sleep. When I asked about it I was told there wasnt anything the front desk can do about that...The snack bar in the lobby had mostly snacks to buy that contained peanuts. I didnt ask anyone to do anything about it, but asked the front desk person to pass on to higher ups that it might be a good idea to add some other peanut free choices. I have no confidence that that was passed up the ladder, and I never heard about it again. When checking out I was given the 2 room bills already processed to my credit card without allowing me to review them and without any question about how the stay was. When I said that I had had some issues and would like to talk to someone about them, I was told the front desk person couldnt help me, but a manager would call me. I gave my cell phone number and instead of a call received an email saying: Please let me know what I can assist with at your convenience and thank you for staying the Renaissance Albany. Cheers, B---- M----- DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONSIt seems to me that: 1-Many of the staff are poorly trained to handle customers or even the simplest of requests or problems.2-The staff do not communicate with each other nor the managers.3- The staff seem to feel they have no power to fix or address the simplest of requests or concerns.4-The Renaissance Albany does not care much about customer experiences
Great hotel with an amazing staff. Clean rooms with everything you might need and in a great location. Restaurants and breweries near by and great onsite dining as well with a decent beer selection. Event coordinator on site was amazing and got us everything we needed for our small event.
It’s clean enough, but overall such a disappointment. First of all, the decoration isn’t consistent and seemed to evolve more than be the result of deliberate design. Our couch had a big tear in it and the whole place just seemed to need updating. The worst part was the neighborhood. We tried to walk with our teen and preteen kids and our family was really surprised at how rough the area was. We tried to walk another direction next time and we realized that the hotel is just in a bad spot. It’s sad to see a city that shows signs of being nice once fall into a state of high crime and lawlessness.
8th floor Queen Deluxe room was very spacious, with modern decor, furniture and beddings. The large flat screen allows connecting external streaming devices. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The hotel has a lot of character, located in a nice part of downtown, and is close to restaurants. Will definitely stay there the next time visiting Albany!
Visites July 1st 2021 and many COVID-19 protocols still in place. Fair enough.Understaffed like most places and industries. Fair enough.Issues as a Titanium member. ... Upon arrival nothing said to me about breakfast, so I asked and was told restaurant and lounge access were both closed. Told to call room service in the morning and it would be delivered as a Titanium member. Called in morning and advised to log into restaurant website to view menu and called back with order. On both calls stated I was a Titanium member. Food arrived quickly in to go containers. Unpacked everything and truth be told, it was very good but like any take out would have been better on plates with real silverware. At check out, learned to my surprise that breakfast was not included and that with 17.5% surcharge breakfast came to $159 .... Less $20 Titanium credit toward breakfast! ... So $139.At check out .... I was asked if we parked with them, which we had ... Self parked in their lot. I knew there was a charge before check in ($17). When we went to leave hotel the automatic opener to let us out of garage would not open without a key. Learned this later as my repeated requests from the for service button went unanswered. With car behind leaning on his horn, we called the hotel from a cell and the front desk picked up. Told to hang up and press the for service button. Then same person came on and buzzed us through. Total stressfull time trying to get out of garage: 15 minutes. At check out, shouldnt I have been told to hold onto my key? Which is what you need to get out. After all, I was asked if I parked with them, and she saw me place my keys in the key return slot.Room, not so clean ....found someones open ChapStick on the floor and threw it out ... Well actually one of my kids found it. And while walking around in socks I stepped on something that poked me in the bottom of the foot that felt like a tack. Got down on my knees and found a sharp piece of plastic sticking out of the carpet and threw it out. Put on a band-aid to stop bleeding.Internet. Had trouble logging in and no instructions at check in or in the room. With a call to the front desk access granted and made a morning zoom meeting with moments to spare. Our room request of high floor was granted. No extra pillows, no extra towels and no room upgrade. ...Our room was ready at about 10am, but I had already advised that we would not arrive until after 1030pm! So planty of time to add the towels. So that morning we needed to request additional towels be delivered. The good ... The bed was comfortable & nice shower with strong water pressure. Has the feel of a recent renovation. Food from restaurant food was good. Short handed staff tried with a smile.
We were attending a concert at The Egg and decided wed stay over and drive home the next morning. We chose the Renaissance because of its proximity to downtown. It was an easy 5 minute walk to the venue. Well definitely be back the next time we have tickets to an Albany show.
Staff here was friendly and helpful and the rooms were super spacious and very modern. Bathrooms were modern, clean and spacious. The decor and styling throughout the hotel was very modern and impressed my wife if you care about such things. I was eligible for upgrades but never offered anything despite the place being empty. While the staff did ammend my room upon request I was not upgraded, wasnt offered water or such upon check-in or made to feel like a titanium customer. I never ask for such things but its nice to be recognized for the amount.of time I spend in these hotels.
This property is well below Renaissance standard, and not at all worth what we paid. There is a crack in the door so you can see into the bathroom?!? Only one towel, a floor towel that was torn (should have been thrown away) a crack in the toilet seat, and squeaks every time the air turned on....and this was the upgraded room. Room service took an hour for breakfast (when 30 min was promised) Very disappointed.
While sensitive to COVID and the precautions necessary, it seems this, and many other properties, have used COVID to scale back operations for cost issues. No food service beyond room service, no concierge, no coffee in the lobby (room service only). Front desk staff was gone for 10 minutes at 7:15am when checking out and looking for coffee. Again, we must all take precautions against this horrible pandemic, but the lack of services is not appropriate. There are many ways to provide exception and safe service without removing it.
Ive given it a low score because of the reception staff. We arrived in the afternoon and no-one was on reception, we waited a couple of minutes until they came out, and then everything was a little rushed. We asked if we could have dinner at the restaurant to which she laughed and said it was booked, and also on our second night. We saw a charge on the credit card that was $100 more than the price we booked at, we assumed it was an extra charge incase we used the mini bar or whatever, but this was not mentioned at check in. Next morning we went down to breakfast to find that the restaurant currently werent opening for breakfast, this was not on their website or on the booking website. The room was great, and the view of the capitol building amazing.
Luxurious & spacious. Clean and personalized service. Even a minor issue was quickly responded to and wonderfully corrected. Well located in NY Capital city with unbelievable sites and amazing history. Easy parking facility attached to the Renaissance. Thank you Brian for making the stay momentous.
My wife and I greatly enjoyed our stay at the Renaissance. We liked the old building; the room was spacious, with several windows that provided ample light, and very comfortable bed. We were especially taken by the swiveling tulip chairs in the main lobby. The staff were extremely friendly, efficient and helpful. The meals were probably the highlight of our stay. At dinner my wife had a spinach and berry salad with chicken; the ingredients were extremely fresh and the fruit was just excellent. At breakfast, my wife was explaining to the waitress her many dietary restrictions and the waitress said, just tell me what you want and we will produce it -- and they did! We were also impressed by the free shuttle service to the Albany Amtrak station; also we had to use the laundry during our visit and we give it really high marks. We had only 2 areas that could be improved. The closet in our room had 2 sliding doors; each of them was 2/3 the the width of the closet, so accessing the closet was really difficult. Second, we had a great deal of trouble with the room thermostat. We could never get the air flow onto medium or high. Apart from these 2 issues we loved the Albany Renaissance hotel and would gladly stay there on a subsequent visit.
The front desk staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The interior was beautiful, modern and chic. The room service was on time and with a smile. The operator was nice. The room was modern, but small. Being on the top floor and at the end in the corner was good, but the view was unimpressive. Booking was somewhat difficult because if you go directly through the hotels website (like I did) not all of the rooms are listed regardless of availability. I got a good deal for prepaying in advance, but I didnt like that my room options were only available during certain weekdays. The building can be hard to find as well as the parking garage, nothing is clearly labeled. Overall I would come back, but book over the phone.
Positive: There is really nothing to redeem this hotel from its many problems. Negative: The interior design is dreadful, there is no storage in-room, no microwave, not enough towels, phone system/front desk staff are inconsistent, food from the hotels restaurant is great, though.
I am very pleased with the quality and first class service that I receive during each of my past 4 stays at this Albany Hotel property.I will be returning to Albany again in mid-April for a Sales Meeting and based on my prior experiences at this hotel, it is a very simply choice to book a hotel room and also their conference room for my next meeting and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone that needs lodging in the Albany area as you will not be disappointed by booking at this hotel.
At first view, the Renaissance is a fancy shmancy place. It has an amicable staff. The pretentious house restaurant creates decent culinary attempts. But the question I would I ask myself everytime I stopped by the hotel Is it worth it? And the answer is no. The Renaissance meet the basic and does not exceed the requirements for a 4 star hotel. Its level of service and amenities are just basics beyond the immediate aesthetics of the lobby space. I believe the rates should reflect the value of the stay. I guess for Albanys taste, this is best that can be offered.
From the staff to the actual rooms everything was amazing, Brian Murphy is the coolest and most down to earth person I have ever met and you should be honored to have him represent this hotel, im pretty sure he personally made my bed and got the stank out of my underoos!
The hotel is in a great location. It is right across the street from the capital building and Empire State Plaza. It is also close to many restaurants. We had great service at the front desk and were able to check-in early. The hotel is beautiful and Wellingtons is a great restaurant, too!
They are not following their own stated schedule of meal service. There is nothing to purchase when the kitchen is not open, and good luck figuring out when exactly the kitchen is open. There is no store. There’s nothing nearby to get food. If you have a high elite status, be prepared that they will not honor it with anything. In fact, they insisted that we did not have any status, when we are titanium elite. They put us in the wrong room, and they argued when I kept explaining that there had been a mistake. I had to produce my reservation information for them to believe me. There is no lounge access. There is no attempt at thanking elite members with things like free parking or a welcome gift. We’ve been to several Marriotts in the last year, and this is the only one that has not been pleasant and helpful during Covid.
Given that the hotel was, by and large, empty, I would have expected less attitude from the manager. The food was dismal and the manager seemed to not really care at all that we were unhappy about the cost/value ratio. We travel to Albany frequently, as do others in our family, to visit with our son and future daughter-in-law. We will not be staying in your hotel again.
I had a fantastic stay at the hotel. The staff was friendly the food was good and the rooms comfortable! I had a lovely view of the city especially the Egg!! The views are incredible either when in yoir room or having your meal. It was therapeutic and relaxing. Everything i would ever want if i needed time away. Just wish there was a pool! You cant have it all bit when what you have is fantastic what you wish you had doesnt seem to matter that much! I would recommend this hotel to anyone!
The Renaissance Albany was a lovely hotel. The hotel room was stylish and clean. The lobby was very pretty, staff was friendly and quick to help. I really liked the coffee area in the room - I like having REAL half & half and sufficient supplies (I like my coffee very sweet with lots of cream and often, there is not enough). I also liked having the mini fridge and complimentary bottles of water. Loved having the USB ports really close to the beds... and beds were very comfy. Aveda amenities were a nice touch.
This is by far the nicest hotel Ive ever been in. The room was very spacious and guest services was quick to respond to our needs. The hotel is within walking distance of beautiful buildings and scenery. If I was to stay in Albany again it would be at this hotel. The bar and the bar staff were all top notch and offered a wide selection of mixed drinks. Youll be wishing the bar didnt shut down at 11PM because the drinks and conversation is so good.
My girlfriends and I stayed here for a relaxing get-a-way. We loved the trendy decor of the hotel, beautifully appointed rooms, location to restaurants, and the in hotel bar. Before dinner, we enjoyed traditional cocktails in the bar and were thrilled. It was a very cool and laid-back atmosphere with friendly and helpful staff. We used the complementary shuttle to take us to dinner and bring us back. The hotel was very quiet at night and the bed was super comfortable. I stay at over 20 hotels a year and this was the best one. Thank you to all of the staff-you are doing an excellent job! This is a fantastic place.
We loved our stay! Not only did your location in the heart of the city allow us a night time walk around the Capitol building and through the Empire State Plaza (magical reflections), but your bar/restaurant was both chic and warm and inviting. The bar menu was 10 steps up from most -- delicious dishes! We liked it so much we came back and spent another night after our week long bike ride through the Hudson River Valley (also beautiful). The deluxe King room was extremely comfortable and spacious and well appointed in, I guess, a retro modern style that has lovely colors and lighting. GREAT bathroom! The sitting area being divided from the bed by the long desk/counter and the TV that swiveled to face either bed or couch really worked to define the spaces. Your rooms are terrific! We had rushed from the bike ride back to Albany so we could make the last Capitol tour of the day (3 pm) and the valet service helped us out by parking the car before we even checked in so we could get there on time. (This tour is really interesting and the capitol building is incredible, both inside and out!) Loved the historic murals in your lobby, as well, and I definitely want one of those tulip lamps! Sadly, I hadnt joined Marriott Rewards program before the stays or youd be owing us a free night by now. (:
Absolutely beautiful hotel! I will definitely stay again. One problem with my room (it was needed for a wedding party) so I was moved...and they compensated me by giving me 4 free breakfast vouchers. They do charge your card extra for incidentals which I wasnt expecting (an additional hundred dollars) but other than that the rooms were gorgeous! The bed was comfortable too! I also had a nice view out my window.
So I traveled to your hotel for my daughters 25th birthday. She lives in Albany and I live in Westchester County. She works at Albany medical centre as an operating Room technician and I want to spend her 25th birthday with her. We went out to eat Saturday night and our checkout was on Sunday. On the way home from the restaurant Saturday night I got a flat tire and put the doughnut on my car. Mavis opens at 9 they said I would not get back to the hotel by 11. I called the hotel and they said no problem you can check out A1230. The hotel was absolutely immaculate the staff was absolutely friendly courteous and professional . I will absolutely stay there again
The Renaissance Albany was a major surprise. I was thoroughly impressed with the condition and overall quality of the hotel. Its staff were all courteous, friendly and informative. They provided good recommendations whenever I inquired. The rooms look as though they are brand new, with functional and comfortable rooms. The bathrooms were also extremely clean and nicely updated. My overall experience was great, from the time I valeted my car to the time I checked out. I enjoyed being at the hotel and looked forward to returning to it after my day. I would absolutely stay here again, should I be in Albany at any point.
Room was comfortable and modern. I liked that the shades blocked out all sunlight unlike most hotels. Bathroom was nice. Room service is very hit or miss. First night it look them 2 hours to get my order (I had to call three times). Breakfast was dropped off very promptly. The staff downstairs was also hit or miss. The first front desk person was a bit...short with me, and seemed annoyed that I was asking questions. The second day, everyone was very friendly and helpful.
Was very pleased with our stay in the Renaissance hotel this past week. It is very clean and modern - lobby is a very interesting mix of restored original wood and modern seating. The rooms are pretty big and comfortable (and did I already say clean ;))). Wifi is included in the stay and pretty good. We used the shuttle from the airport which was excellent - called for it just as we landed and it was there for us in no time (and very professional driver did help us with bags quite a bit). We got a chance to eat at the hotels restaurant Wellingtons and it is pretty good. Faroe island salmon was pretty excellent and the campfire pot was super interesting and delicious as well. Location was pretty great for us as the business was just a 5 minute walk away. We did stay in other hotels in the area previously and this one is the best by far. Would stay there again without any hesitation.
Nice hotel with excellent location. Room service burger and turkey club were great. Front desk crew were great - friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and clean. Indoor walking path to the TU & the Egg was an unexpected and very pleasant surprise. Will stay there again when we want to avoid after concert traffic.
Ive booked this hotel for my parents the last 2 times theyve visited. Both times the room was upgraded at check-in and had views of the State House. The staff has been friendly and helpful in both of my experiences. The room and the hotel in general are gorgeous, spotless, and well designed/furnished. This hotel might be a little more expensive than its neighbors or a lot more if you stay near the airport or uptown BUT, its totally worth it - very walkable area with a lot to do near by and the rooms are new, clean, and have great tech features.Restaurant on premise, Wellingtons, is pretty good Ive been there for brunch. Honestly though the best brunch in Albany is probably still Café Madison.
The hotel is beautifully renovated while preserving the history of the original site. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The room was beautiful, clean and comfortable with a great view of the State Capitol.Food at the conference was excellent.I would definitely recommend this hotel for business and pleasure.
This hotel is an excellent value. Clean, well located, and stylishly decorated, the Renaissance Albany was quite a surprise; it actually was one of the nicer hotel stays Ive had in some time, and I travel a good deal. I received friendly and knowledgeable service from all of the hotel staff, and the property is nicely appointed. The whole experience was quite good, and I feel like would have cost me much more in another city. The parking is a little expensive, and the food in Wellingtons, while quite good, is also a little pricey.
Stylish and clean hotel. Rooms don’t have much of a view (unless you enjoy staring at adjacent buildings and their mechanicals) Restaurant food excellent (recommend the lobster ravioli with lemon), wait staff average. Front desk staff a little above average. Daily parking fees felt a little rude but kept car close and seemingly safe. Rooms were very nice though and more importantly clean!
We drove up to the hotel to be greeted by the parking attendant, the building at first glance looked freshly cleaned but dated. Upon entering the lobby I was surprised to see the renovation had been exquisite; the colors popped from their dark surroundings. there are two check-in desks very modern in style not in keeping with the rest of the décor but not upsetting. The hotel elevators and floor halls leave the old fashioned lobby behind they were sleek and modern very tastefully done. The room was 50% larger than I was expecting and beautifully appointed. The Bar and Cocktail lounge-restaurant were again beautiful.
Ive stayed over 15 weeks at the Renaissance Albany in 2018 and here is what you need to know.1. The rooms dont have microwaves (you might be able to request one) 2. The fridges are super loud and not cold enough (no freezer section)3. No water in rooms you have to buy it or go to the water fountain in the lobby4. Parking is NOT complimentary for guests (rude)5. They are disorganized about your points, bonus points if you opt out of room cleaning, and generally all points. 6. The manager is useless, has no authority and deflects all problems instead of offering solutions. 7. Status is useless here, the upgrades are literally nothing all rooms are the same. The 11th floor suites are the same as every other room except they have a gross bathrobe. Literally has been used millions of times and it sheds. Gross!8. The rooms are very loud and you can hear guests in other rooms as well as hallways.9. the pillows are HORRIBLE! Fake feathers, with stems that puncture the cover and poke you at night. Literally the worst bedding situation. Mattresses are extremely soft to the point you sink in and your back bends.10. Bathrooms are huge and clean (showers run really hot).11. Complimentary toiletries are all this mint scent that burns your skin. 12. Lots of natural light during the day13. Great views of the capitol building if you are into that. 14. The coffee at the lounge is disgusting15. The staff ins very friendly and they try really hard to help you, but they are a bit apathetic about resolving issues.16. The gym is nice and new, good cardio equipment but limited selection of strength equipment.
If I were staying here for one night I would have given it four stars. I will admit everyone else who stayed here for the wedding really enjoy this place. I marked it down for many reasons including 2 rooms were disturbed before 8 to have cleaning done. We made sure a do not disturb sign was put out the next two nights. For the second and third day we had to go down and get dry towels. Housekeeping never came in to make the bed or take the dirty towels on day two or three. The windows are dirty to look out which I probably would overlook, however they were the type of windows that you can pull in to the room to clean and then close back up. The same type many people now have in their homes with the easy clean feature. One of the sofas had a large cut in it and we made sure to take a picture and show the front desk so we would not be charged for it. At night with all the lights on, it was still a little dark in the rooms. Everyone who walked into the rooms commented about turning on more lights even though they were already all on. I would say it was like mood lighting. All three rooms had a bed or two beds separated with an island which held the TV and on the other side was the sofa. The rooms were very spacious and would get a five. All three rooms were set up a little bit differently. All the hotel staff was very friendly and they get a score of 5 stars. The beds are really soft and squishy as are the pillows. I am used to a firm mattress and was concerned I would wake up with a backache, but I did not. You need to be careful getting out of the bed, as there is a mattress inside a wooden frame.Once you know it is there, its not a problem, but my 4 foot 7 inch 88 year old mother-in-law did have a little trouble getting out of the bed because of the wooden frame. I would not mark a hotel down for this. I have had much better stays at much cheaper places, it was not up to the standards I would expect from this hotel. I was also surprised that no one asked how our stay was even though I was the only one checking out at that time. Next time I will stay in a hotel down the road with free parking and better service for less money.
My first night, there was a group of teenage girls hanging out and talking loud while waiting for the elevator at 4:00AM and since y room was next to the elevators I had to get up and ask them to please be quiet or go somewhere else. Not sure why they would be running around the hotel at 4:00am unsupervised. I had to get up for work at 6:00am!The grey chair in the room was terribly uncomfortable. It pitched forward and was hard as a cement bench.
My cousin had her wedding reception here, everything was perfect. Her hotel room was beautiful, the breakfast we ordered from room service while getting ready for the wedding was delicious, and the staff was extremely attentive to her every need. Their service really helped her to be able to relax and enjoy her special day!
This is an excellent hotel! Really inviting atmosphere as soon as you walk in. Its a beautiful old building that was renovated to add modern design and comfort without erasing any of the character of the building. Rooms were comfortable, nicely designed, and clean. Staff was very friendly and went the extra mile. They brought us a bottle opener up to our room when we needed one, and accommodated our early check-in request with no problem. They also provided us with free shuttle service to the event we were attending at the Times Union Center! Only two complaints I can think of - water pressure was very poor in the shower. We were staying in an accessible room so the shower was different- other rooms/showers may not be the same. Also, WiFi was free but only for a limited speed- we were having trouble with Facetiming family on this connection or watching Youtube videos, and it cost money to upgrade. All in all a great stay and we highly recommend it!
Loved the decor of the rooms (except for platform beds—be warned before sitting!). Rooms are spacious and updated. Fabulous window coverings that easily keep light out. Hotel restaurant serves delicious food both for breakfast and dinner. Don’t let the staff put you off—lemon ravioli with lobster is worth the occasional attitude from servers.
The hotel is beautiful and for the most part we had a great time. I wish the housekeeping staff had cleaned our room and not just made the bed..my takeout order from Wellingtons was wrong but it was late and I was tired and ate what I could. Front desk and restaurant staff overall was very good.
The building is a great save of an important historical and architectural landmark. The lobby is jaw dropping. The rooms are comfortable, clean and modern and the staff could not be more friendly and helpful. This is a well run hotel!Parking is made easy and the hotels van service allows easy travel in a city where parking is not simple. We will return!
The room seemed to be mid-renovation. There was an alcove in the bathroom for a sink that was not installed. There was no light over the bar in the dark foyer. Lousy design of this was the tended finish condition. Reception on arrival seemed distracted and inattentive.
Decor is modern and elegant. Room was a good size, bathroom large! However, no one at front desk the 4 times we passed it. Checking in we waited for someone to appear. Television did not work, toilet seat cracked and tissue container empty. Moved to New room. Little apology for our inconvenience.
An incredible hotel with fine amenities and outstanding staff. Extremely clean rooms and a very well-suited gym for those that take working out seriously. The bar and the food are excellent. very close proximity to a place called The beer Hall. An amazing beer garden highly suggested as well. If you need to stay in Albany look nowhere else but this place
The hotel and its rooms were beautiful. So different than your average hotel room, so much attention to details in the design. The staff was great, and the valet was so convenient. The valet was a bit costly, but it beat having to carry my luggage through a parking lot, the staff opened my door and took my luggage to my room, worth every penny! I definitely recommend staying here.
The Renaissance Albany Hotel is just a standout hotel. Rarely do you get the best of both worlds, beautiful accommodations and a fabulous attentive staff. I loved the look of the hotel, modern but romantic nods to the past. The staff, especially Steven and Taylor were so helpful and warm. They went above and beyond to help me. All the staff was helpful but those two in particular were outstanding! The food was also wonderful. I have reservations to come back there and have been raving about this hotel to all of the people in my training session and they all now want to change their reservations to the Renaissance Albany Hotel. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
The most aesthetically pleasing hotel Ive ever been to. The staff was very helpful and courteous. Even room service was amazing. Room service took the time to organize my clothes and stuff on the desk. The best part is all the art that is spread throughout the hotel. From the magazines, books and games in the lobby. It was very chic and up to date with technology.
Impressive modern vibe from the lobby continues to the spacious room. Modern furniture and plenty of plugs definitely remind you that the hotel isnt all that old. Bar/restaurant looked pleasant, but didnt get a chance to try. Great proximity to capital and other parts of State St corridor. Bathroom plenty modern as well. If you can find a reasonable price for a room, would recommend, especially on weekends when street parking is free.
Located in a turn of the century building that has been totally refurbished with a keen eye for common modern tastes. Everything about this hotel fits my needs when I stay in Albany. The rooms are modern and the fitness center is very large and the staff has been very friendly each time I have stayed here. On top of that this location is great for taking a walk around the capital area either above hround or below ground. Looking forward to my next stay
What an amazing experience. Knew this was a new hotel, but didnt realize we were staying on week 1! With that in mind, things could have gone horrible wrong... But they didnt. Our stay was luxurious, to say the very least. Nothing gave the impression that this hotel had just opened its doors. Top notch service, impeccable furnishings, wonderful staff. Will definitely be our go-to Albany hotel. The only improvement I could request is the clarity of information, especially regarding parking and the on site restaurant and bar. Perhaps some more printed literature could be provided in the rooms.
This hotel was great! The concierge was extremely helpful and was willing to go out of his way to make sure you enjoyed your stay. The room was clean and spacious with a modern style. Its located in the middle of downtown Albany, so you can easily walk two blocks to get to the Times Union Center and multiple other places. Would highly recommend if looking for an amazing hotel.
This hotel is cool, beautiful and interesting. The room was exceptionally clean and lovely - the headboard and mattress were perfect and comfortable but the bed platform/frames should be changed out: it literally hurt our legs to get in and out of bed. The location of the hotel and parking are easy/excellent. The staff are friendly and the amenities are nice quality. We attended a show at the Egg followed by a late dinner at Speakeasy 518 which were both fabulous and within walking distance from the hotel. The breakfast at the hotel was cooked to perfection and delicious especially the potato/squash hash. Very good value - you cannot get a hotel room and (actually edible) delicious breakfast for this price in many places = excellent value.
We stayed here after attending a wedding nearby. Our room was gorgeous, with an updated bathroom and super comfy bed. Overall, a wonderful overnight stay. We had a hotel-catered hot breakfast the next morning in a large, private room, hosted by the brides parents. The food was very good, and more than enough for the invited guests.
I was in an accident literally minutes before arriving. What was supposed to be a fun night away with old friends turned into a nightmare. I was a bit shaken up but thankfully my room was ready due to my mobile checkin in from the previous day. The room was beyond my expectations and I was Immediately a little relaxed once getting inside. The car ended up being undriveable and the insurance adjuster was delayed on arriving. I needed To leave town after one night. I went To the front desk and spoke with Angel told her the situation she then went and spoke with Martin in security and they assured me they’d help handle everything. They both went above and beyond my expectations and made this difficult situation seamless for me. I cant thank them or appreciate their efforts enough. They definitely deserve a above and beyond rating and review. I’ve always enjoyed my experiences at any Marriott property but it’s the workers that truly make the experience special.
We were made to feel very welcome upon arrival by a very professional staff. This hotel is beautiful. The beds and rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. We were disappointed with the house keeping not taking care of a problem with our comforter. The restaurant was overpriced for the quality of the food. But the servers and maître d were helpful and attentive.
This is a well staffed and maintained hotel with great internet, spacious and spotless rooms, and located right in the middle of Albany. That said, Albany is a bit of a restaurant desert, and Marriott drops the ball here very badly. For months, restaurant ratings have noted the good food and terrible management of the dinner service. The staff seems to be doing their best. But we waited nearly an hour for our first course over wine with not even a breadstick to pass the time. Our water glasses ran dry because the server avoided coming near his annoyed customers. Kitchen staff literally slammed dishes and cutlery in front of us (finally). And so it went. Everybody has complained about this online for ages and obviously improvements arent even attempted. So management doesnt care. Since Marriott caters events here, I wouldnt book one without a thorough check into whether service will be improved to adequate. Avoid. Breakfast, by the way, is great in every way. Dine elsewhere if you can find someplace. Bar is ok, but not very inviting. Not kid friendly.
This newly renovated hotel is absolutely beautiful! The were able to keep many of the historic features while blending in a modern flare. The guest room was large and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have every slept in. The staff is very welcoming and ensured my stay was perfect.
I spent one night in Albany. I was pleasantly surprised at the hotel. From the exterior I thought the hotel would have been older but once i stepped inside it was so contemporary. Lovely low lighting, colors, and ambiance. The check-in process was quick, easy, and smooth. I was also offered a free upgrade and access to the concierge lounge. After a long 3 hour drive from the city, i decided to check out the hotels restaurant for dinner. The 8oz steak with truffle potatoes was decent but nothing to wow over. The service was good. All in all, i would return on my next Albany trip.
Staff was great, room was very spacious and clean. The temperature was set very high in the room when I arrived (78... which isn’t desirable on a hot July day) but once I located the thermostat it cooled down quickly enough. The hotel is in a very centralized area and has a beautiful lobby as well!
Beautiful blend of modern & vintage decor with excellent customer service at the front desk, bar, restaurant & in-room dining. Everyone was helpful and friendly and made it a very comfortable, relaxing experience. The location of the hotel is wonderfully scenic and easy to get to with convenient parking. It was the perfect place for our 24 hour/10 year Anniversary getaway. Will definitely stay again the next time were in Albany for business or pleasure.
Fun, youthful art and decor. Accomodating and friendly staff. While our room on the 8th floor was quiet, street noises i.e. construction, crosswalk alerts, etc. were surprisingly distinct. The comfort level on their beds and pillows were out of this world. Just be mindful of the bedframe. Extra amenities like a fully loaded Keurig machine, antiseptic wipes, and make-up remover were nice additional touches. I would definitely come back.
The hotels lobby and bar areas are beautifully decorated for the December holiday season. Staying for my sisters wedding it was relaxing to celebrate in the bar area. They had a cozy nook that my family and friends were able to relax in. The room was spacious, and up to date, very nice to see. The only downside was the parking lot was difficult to find, not well marked at all. So with the time crunch of my stay, had to keep valet ing my car.
As Platinum members, we were upgraded to a lovely corner room on nearly the top floor. It was pleasant both day and night, with wonderful natural light and city views. I dont believe it was a suite, but it had a separate sitting area with pull-out sofa bed for my daughter. The Executive Lounge was closed for the weekend, but the hotel compensated by offering complimentary Platinum breakfast in their restaurant where we ordered off the menu. The food was delicious, and the room exceeded our expectations.
We were here for one night only, leisure, for a concert. Check in and out was simple, easiest ever. Friendly staff directed us to our room and provided everything we needed. Rooms were clean, comfortable and luxurious. Historical Albany, and this hotel are fascinating. Fun Time. You wont be disappointed.
Marriott restored a downtown hotel across from the capitol and did a remarkable job. The hotel is so warm and inviting. The staff is so helpful , friendly and professional. The food at the first floor restaurant is very good as is also the lounge. Which is has a great vibe , great sophisticated eats and drinks that are prepared masterfully. My family lives in Albany so we are regular visitors and have been to several hotels. While Marriott does have some other great Albany choices my favorite hands down is this one
Beautiful old building. Large well appointed room. The box the bed sits in made it very uncomfortable to get in and out. I like firm but this was liking sleeping on a table. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The one gentleman explained all the paintings on the ceiling
I was looking for a nice hotel for a getaway for my wife and I and came across the Renaissance Hotel. The rating and pictures had me then. Once we got to the hotel, we immediately fell in love and enjoyed every bit of it. We are big about nice hotels and glad we came across this one. Will be returning very soon, hopefully Valentine’s Day!
This is the place to go if you want excellent customer service! From the person in the shuttle picking you up at the airport to check-in to check-out! They welcome you to their facility and demonstrate that they love their work and want to make your stay wonderful. If you need something the staff respond immediately! This hotel is located right next to the capitol and I was able to walk everyone that I needed to be! I went on a tour of the capitol in my free time and plan to return to the Renaissance next year so I can see other sights right in the area (the museum, the cruise, etc.). I would highly recommend this hotel.
This hotel is very beautiful with a nice contrast between a lovely historic old building, and a very modern, very well equipped room. The location is fantastic for visiting the Capitol and neighboring areas. Parking is very convenient (but not free). Friendly and helpful staff, great fitness center. Only minor negative is that there is no free breakfast for Marriott Gold members,
The Renaissance Hotel is a great place to stay. It has a very cool minimalist design in the rooms, great lighting and art in the hallways and in the room, a beautiful lobby. It reminds me of one of my favorite chains, The W Hotel. Friendly staff, great bar, good room service food. Very friendly and competent staff. Also a good location if you are doing business in Albany. A good value for the cost. Totally recommended!
Had a great stay at the Renaissance hotel in Albany. Very clean and comfortable rooms. Hotel amenities are nice, new, clean, and modern. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Downside is the parking fee of $22 a day, I believe. Thats a bit pricey but it is in a covered parking garage. Other than that, the stay was very pleasant.
This hotel is located in a great spot in Albany. Its close to everything. The rooms are comfortable and feel like a studio apartment. I felt right at home upon arriving. There are also tons of spots to charge your devices and the room. My stay was comfortable and Id definitely go back.
The room was excellent. It had a modern design and comfortable bed. I had a very pleasant stay. The rooms even had smart TVs so you can watch netflix. The location is good, we had a view of the capital building so if your business is downtown its perfect. Service has been great too. Room service orders came quickly and were very good. I would recommend the capital burger- its a good price and better than the Irish pub down the street.
Love this Marriott! Awesome staff at front desk, housekeeping, waitstaff, general manager... Gorgeous rare renovated building in Albany. The rooms are nice, large, clean and comfortable. Only downside is $17 a night for parking (seriously, its Albany?) and drinks at the bar are short, weak and expensive. Its still one of my favorite in the entire Marriott chain.
Very new and nice rooms. They did a great job 9f blending the modern with the old and beautiful building. We stayed as a part of a wedding party and I am sure the bridal photos will turn out amazing. The hotel was able to accommodate special requests (early check-in and connecting rooms) after calling and speaking with the manager
Stayed here for a night while traveling through to another location. We couldnt have been happier with our experience here. It was a nice and clean modern hotel, with a very friendly and helpful staff. We had a very nice king suite overlooking the state capitol building. The room itself was a decent and the bathroom was really nice. Definitely recommend that room. The on site restaurant was pretty good as well although slightly overpriced.
The historic Renaissance was charming and elegant with modern convenient touches. The valet, front desk and staff were friendly and helpful. We were steps from Albany landmarks & our room overlooked the capital building. We were smack in the middle of the action. Our room was large, plush, very very comfortable and immaculate. It was well designed with a sitting area, king bed and large screen T-V that flipped between the room. We utilized the fridge, and drink selections with the keuric. The bed was very comfortable, the room was quiet & the black out window treatments made it dark. The large bath with big vanity, shower, plush towels and nice toiletries was perfect. The new gym was large, modern and very functional. Televisions, head phones, towels and water were available. Im sorry we stayed only a night, the room was comfortable enough to spend a week in. We will be back!
All staff that I interacted with were very polite and helpful. There was a lack of signage in the parking garage and the connector to the hotel itself. Lots of signs for the restaurant/bar but nothing pointing me in the direction of the lobby. Interior is very modern in design. My business meetings were not in the hotel itself and staff was very helpful in getting me where I needed to be on time. Breakfast was good except for the corned beef hash.
Beautiful room, fabulous bar! The room service delivery was prompt and friendly and the food was delicious. Attended a professional event in the large conference room and it was a lovely venue for so many people, unlike a lot of the cold, corporate feeling places you often find yourself at for events like this. The staff at the front desk seemed a little over it, but were helpful and friendly when prompted.
Had an excellent stay for my cousins wedding. The rooms are gorgeous and absolutely worth the price. The hotel staff were very helpful and courteous. The food at the restaurant the next morning was great too. I only live a few miles away and I will definitely be staying there again. Great place!
This is a beautifully updated centrally located hotel in Albany. It is modern with a soothing color scheme. It is near all the cultural and historical sites in downtown Albany. Parking garage is accessed via valet or driving to the back of the hotel but a breezeway takes you directly into the hotel without going outside. The room was clean and comfortable with a mini-fridge, Keurig coffee maker, large tv, and modern furniture. The bed was really comfortable and bathroom was spacious with a large walk-in shower and good water flow/ temperature. Staff is pleasant and attentive. I had a great time and highly recommend this hotel for business travelers or couples looking for a relaxing getaway with access to modestly priced theaters and music venues.
Very polite and accommodating staff! I have Celiacs disease and cannot have gluten, I asked one of the staff, Tommy if anything they were serving was gluten free. He immediately went to the kitchen and brought me a beautiful sandwich which was made with gluten free bread. After seeing how quickly I finished the sandwich he brought me another right away. This was just one of several great interactions with the staff. Beautiful hotel but the staff make it exceptional! I will be visiting again and will certainly recommend to anyone visiting the area!
The lobby of the hotel was beautiful with wood paneling and then lovely touches of modern lights and furniture. The food in the restaurant was delicious and they offered free specialty drinks. The room was spacious, clean, and had easy access to internet, TV and a large shower. My room had a view of the capitol and I could have stayed there all day.
This was only a one night stay, but a great room. Luxurious, but be forewarned about the wooden edges around the beds. I almost hit it, but luckily remembered their existence. I didnt do anything except the overnight stay, but the parking lot was nice, with beautiful hallways to walk through.
From the time we pulled up to Valet, we felt well taken care of. We had driven 3 1/2 hours and were tired. It was nice to feel like there was one less thing we had to do. The staff at the front desk made us feel welcome and suggested places for us to eat including the hotels restaurant. Dustin was very nice and helped us up to our room with our bags. The room was magnificent to the degree that my roommate took pictures to see if she can emulate some of the decor in her own room! The shuttle driver, King, had brought our bags into the hotel when we first arrived then drove us to where we ate and explained that we would just have to call the hotel to get picked up. Although we can take care of ourselves, it felt like we had a place that had our back in a strange town which was priceless. The shuttle van was impressive too!! I had such a craving for ice cream (Stewarts specifically) and when I mentioned that, King offered to take us to the local Stewarts (we dont have one in Philadelphia); I was in Heaven!! Anyway, we (and my group) were in Albany in January and I stayed at the Hilton. Our event was in the hotel so we decided to eat there for lunch. The service was EXCELLENT and with our time constraint, it was nice to have a no-fuss menu just for our group. Joe was our waiter and was accommodating and professional. I will definitely stay there again:)
This is an upscale hotel without the price tag. You will not be disappointed. I travel a lot and would stay here again in a heartbeat. Loved the location, the lobby, room, and restaurant. They offer a free shuttle service, and parking is adjacent to the hotel so no need to walk outside. Staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Excellent location, Convenient, very clean, would recommend and I would stay again. You wont be disappointed. Nice bar/restaurant area. Comfortable large room. I had a corner room so three large windows, very bright. The included breakfast was a surprise, we were able to grab a quick light bite to eat in the morning.
This property is gorgeous. Very stylish, posh and welcoming. The decor is awesome. Restaurant and bar are great. Food was delicious and the lounge was very inviting. The rooms were amazing. Very chic and spacious. The hotel is very convenient, as it is connected to a parking garage, the Albany Capital Center and Empire State Plaza. Walking distance to Capitol, Museums, City Hall and the famed Empire State Plaza.
Spent one night on the 10th floor of the Renaissance. Our room overlooked the Capital Building. Bed was super comfortable, room was clean, large and had a coffee maker and refrigerator. We had dinner and breakfast at Wellingtons - both were delicious. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. We walked to the nearby Egg for a concert and then to the NYS Museum. Great location. Highly recommend.
Excellent, stylish new hotel with very good amenities., including restaurant, club lounge, and workout facilities. Staff is courteous and friendly. Best hotel downtown and perfect location for most downtown activities including sports and entertainment events. Suites are spacious and modern.
Great venue and amazing food! However, we held a conference here and it was one of the worst back-end experiences weve ever had. Catering staff were rude, slow to set our rooms and meals, argued amongst themselves and did not clean tables, rooms, etc. In general, we got the feeling that we were inconveniencing them. I would have no problem staying here overnight - the property is beautiful - but would never do events here again.
Nestled in the heart of Albany, NYs capital district, The Renaissance offers its guests convenience, luxury, fine dining and comfort. This was my second stay at this facility and I was excited to go back. The rooms are very open and bright or as I like to say swanky. Theres a contemporary and modern feel and when you open the door to your over sized hotel room. The amenities in the room are really great: large flat screen tv that rotates to face the bed or the couch on the other side of the room, large bathroom with an up to date shower an vanity, counter space when you first walk in with coffee maker, small fridge and safe.I wished I was up on a higher floor for a better view of the NYS Capital but being as I was in a conference for two days, the view wasnt a deal breaker.I dined at Wellingtons and was pleased, again with the quality of the food, the service and the prices. The wine selection is right up my alley so if youre a foodie and wine lover, the bar and restaurant wont let you down! The front desk clerks are very friendly and helpful and make the first impression of your stay, very pleasing.I actually live in the area so being able to stay here is like a mini getaway for me and I look forward to coming back!
Besides this hotel being absolutely beautiful the staff is always very welcoming! Thomas, Debra, and Ray are an asset to this hotel. The food is amazing. The rooms and accommodations are top notch! Will be back! And hopefully be able to visit any of their other locations!
We chose this hotel because it was in walking distance to the New York State Museum, and it made our family trip to Albany memorable and special. The in-service dining was quite good, as was the decor and comfort of our room. The bathroom was clean and well lit, spacious, with plenty of amenities.
This property on its face looks attractive but in reality fails to deliver basic customer service the rooms are the best in Albany. But when it comes to staff they fail to understand that customer service matters. Since there is no better hotel in the area this is why people choose this property. The best in the city but be prepared to be disappointed w customer appreciation. They know they are the “best game in town” and don’t have any competition.
The hotel is very contemporary with a unique homage to its past splendor. It boasts well designed guest rooms , super comfortable beds , and modern up to date bathrooms . The staff is very cordial and the restaurant and bar offers some of the best hotel fare and drinks in the US.
I went there for a work holiday party. Parked in the adjacent parking garage, which was very convenient but also quite expensive. There were a few events in downtown Albany at the time, so it may have been an event rate. The inside of the hotel had a very clean and modern look. The buffet food, including carving stations, was very good. Beer selection was poor at the portable bar for our party, but theyll mix most any drink you want.
Went for Mothers Day brunch at the Wellington. Excellent food, with some great variations on the classics. The staff are super accomodating and friendly. The restaurant decor is great, and the high quality can be noticed in everything from the quality of fruit in a fruit bowl, to silverware, to single serving Dickinsons jams on the table. We didnt stay at the hotel but it does look very nice. The only critique is theres very modern looking decor in a more classic looking building that seems a little jarring in contrast. Not a real complaint, just seemed strange.
We were impressed with the big, clean and bright room. There were many windows with good views and lots of space. If you are attending a show at the Egg, from out of town, this is the place to stay. Not only is it a very short walk to the venue, its a very pretty one; we took our time on the walk back to the hotel across Empire Plaza at night, enjoying the lights, architecture, art, and the reflecting pools.
Beautiful hotel with friendly staff. Very upscale and elegant. The beds are comfortable and the decor is amazing. Only negative thing is that the bed sits in a box. You would think that the box would be padded. You hit you extremities on the box when trying to exit the bed and that thing hurts.
This newly renovated hotel is perfectly placed in downtown Albany close all the major attractions. I have never been so taken back by a group of staff that stopped their day to assure our every need and expectation was met. This hotel is not just a place for rest, its a building with a fabulous decor, a great lounge, and people that will ensure your stay is amazing! Great energy, can not wait to return!
After an issue occurred related to room cleaning and follow-up services, the assistant manager told me that I had obviously requested that our room not be cleaned. After explaining that I think I would remember making such a request, he again insisted it was my fault. He offered 500 bonus points as compensation, saying multiple times he felt that was fair. It was not. The rooms were nice, but hope you dont have a problem because they will blame it on you.
The hotel was quite good. The check-in was fast and efficient, the fitness center was more than adequate, and the room was nicely appointed.I had breakfast at the restaurant and the service was HORRIBLE. It took forever to get coffee and I had to chase down the server to get a refill. The food also took a very long time to come and much of it was cold by the time I received it. I planned on a 20 minute quick in, quick out and it took almost an hour.
Rooms are fine. Restaurant service is poor at best. I hope you dont like refills on coffee in the morning. The last three times I have been here the wait service has been very stingy with the coffee even after discussing it with management. Only come for location to days meetings. Might be time to try the Hilton.
It felt like a really expensive hotel with a first class staff and nestled within other historic buildings. Resonably priced with a restaurant worth eating at, we enjoyed our brunch. The gym was enjoyable. We loved the Mexican restaurant that was walking distance away. My girlfriend and I would return again!
I didn’t have many expectations for the Renaissance in Albany. Having worked in the area for years, I was used to decent and below average hotels across the board. I was surprised by how modern, elegant, and comfortable the Renaissance is; and along with a great bar and restaurant, with wonderful locally sourced food, is the total package of what one should expect from a hotel. I wish all of my stays were as delightful as this one. Thank you for the wonderful hospitality.

2022-06-23This is a great hotel. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. However, on our second day the cleaning staff did not clean our room, so we had to ask for clean towels and more toilet paper, which was kind of a let down for a hotel with such a reputation. Moreover, one towel which was provided to us (although clean) was torn. Not a huge deal but for $630 for two nights you would expect better.

2022-06-19I normally avoid staying downtown but that may change now that I have found this place!Beautiful and historic lobby with modern, crisp guest rooms. Super comfortable bed. Zero noise from neighbors/hallway. Great water pressure and temp. Staff were pleasant and welcoming.I would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a hotel in the area!

2022-02-06The Renaissance Hotel is great! Awesome staff and very modern, super spacious and very clean rooms! The woman that checked me in was great, and Andrew makes some awesome drinks at their bar! Also. I dropped my work cell phone in their parking garage, and one of their employees found it. Ive been working with Brian at their hotel, and hes been phenomenal!! Hes gone the extra mile to ensure I get my cell phone back. The Renaissance Hotel is the only hotel I would stay at in Albany going forward!

2022-02-26First, the positives: hotel is beautiful, with elegant wood paneling, and detailed murals decorating the ceiling and upper walls of the lobby. The large room with two queen beds we stayed in was spacious, modern, and clean. The onsite Wellingtons restaurant was the highlight of the hotel for us, serving up deliciously prepared dinner entrees. Shout out to our dinner waiter, Brett, who went out of his way to provide outstanding service. Breakfast was a little more disappointing. Normally, it turns out, in-dining breakfast isnt even offered at the restaurant. Only room service breakfast is available. We happened to be staying during a few days the hotel was fully booked with law students taking their bar exam next door at the Albany Capital Center. So, buffet breakfast was offered. But, coffee was not particularly good, and pancakes we had were extremely dry. They tacked on an 18% mandatory service charge without even giving notice about it for ordering extra items not available at the buffet. Hostesses were chatty and not particularly polite, and we were seated multiple times without even so much as being given place settings. The aspect the hotel fell short on, in my opinion, was the hospitality element. In the hospitality business, especially at premium room prices, you expect the staff to be forthcoming, helpful, and hospitable. Instead, we were presented with a barrage of excuses as to why the hotel wasnt functioning as normally expected. We exited our rooms at 9:30am, taking down our do not disturb signs, and saw cleaning staff on the floor. But, for some reason, our room wasnt cleaned upon return. The excuse from the front desk? Unexpectedly short-staffed, due to the influx of law students at the hotel. This wasnt told to us upon checking in.Another disappointing aspect of our stay was how the cleaning staff let the hall vacuums rip prior to 9:30am, in front of rooms like ours where we had requested a late check out the night before for a little more rest, and our do not disturb sign was still up. This happened multiple mornings in a row, actually. When confronting the manager regarding this issue, he was rather complacent and essentially shrugged his shoulders, not even offering so much as an apology. So, overall this hotel did have a lot of excellent potential. But, unfortunately, due to improper planning/arrangements to have adequate staff on duty, and what appeared to be somewhat dysfunctional management, in addition to a surprising lack of accountability for the shortcomings of our stay, we most likely will not be considering this hotel again in the near future for our visits to Albany.

2022-01-16LOVE the property! I’m a “Marriott gal” - Titanium Elite with 100+ Marriott nights a year - even during pandemic. This just became one of my favorites. The renovation done in 2015 is the perfect mix of modern, funky vibe meeting historical charm and architectural wonder. The deluxe suites are spacious and comfortable. Ask for a Capitol Building view - stunning. They have an excellent restaurant on ground floor - Wellingtons’s - with a very talented chef and great service. Celebrated my husbands birthday and made an extra effort for it to be special. My only disappointment was service at front desk. They gave me very little direction or information at checkin and barely greeted me. Each time I went to front desk to ask a question, staff was just chatting with each other. Didn’t feel like they cared. It’s a shame but I know it’s hard to get good help now. Loved the room and views and food so much - can’t wait to come back! (Glad I had an opportunity to add that the day front desk staff was much better - very friendly. They noticed me taking pics of the murals in the lobby and offered a pamphlet that shares information on the murals and artist and offered lots of info on the hotel! Departing on a very high note!)

2022-06-21Stayed during a weeknight, no issues; excellent service! As expected for this level of hotel. Room was #604, spacious and updated. Im really glad they had light-blocking blinds as well. So many hotels dont, and for those early summer sunrises, well, they are early.PS: Thank you for the F or C settings on the climate control panel!Cheers

2022-05-14I would give it 4.5 if I could. The hotel is a great old building with cool architectural features, and my room was very spacious.Cons were definitely small but noticeable things... No water bottles put in room. No coffee in the morning when the restaurant is room service only...(and when I tried to use the in room coffee maker which I hate, the water tank was rusted). Housekeeping never came after my first of 4 nights...one person alone shouldnt need to call for towels. There was no plastic laundry bag in the room for me to repurpose for packing dirty socks. A few other minor complaints along the same lines.

2022-06-20I was visiting Albany, NY and stayed at Renaissance Hotel in downtown! Everything about this hotel was amazing!! It’s in middle of all the historic places! Entrance and lobby area was beautifully decorated, there is scramble board game and also connect 4, to play or simple to take pictures off! Staff was very friendly, they helped me with the self tour of the city! Gave me walking tour booklets, and helped me with which places I should visit! Rooms were amazing as well, I had beautiful views of the capital building and the church! I was in 8th floor and corner room, it was very spacious and comfortable! One of the hotels I will definitely visit again!!! Loved every second of it, while I was there!!!

2022-01-25Nice hotel, conveniently located. Rooms were nice enough. Lobby was nice, and restaurant/bar was good. Staff was very courteous and room service was fast. Parking was $17, and is self park, and you dont have to walk outside from the garage, which is nice in the winter.

2021-11-29I honestly have no complaints. The staff was very accommodating and professional. We stayed over Thanksgiving and the staff were working their holiday and they were all gracious. . The rooms were clean. We had one small issue where the TV was not functioning correctly (we honestly thought it was we didn’t know how to work it correctly) and within twenty minutes of calling, maintenance came, looked at it, established it was broken and moved us into a different room.My only caveat, and it’s not a real caveat, just a matter of personal taste. The design choices were interesting. They looked like they asked someone in 1968 what they think a hotel room in 2021 would look like. Like the entrance had this weird purple light when room service came and I went to sign the bill, I flipped the switch to see and I swear the purple light made the words on the receipt disappear….But the bed was soft and comfy and we slept well. And the bar downstairs offered a relaxing brief respite after a day spent with extended family on Thanksgiving.
