Great food and good portion size makes Mi Isla the best Puerto Rican food Ive had so far in Buffalo. I had the Carne Frita (fried pork chunks) [$12] which came with Mofongo, beans, and a little salad. The meat was tender and flavorful and the mofongo, while filling was some of the best I’ve ever had! They offered a variety of different traditional beverages which I sampled and really enjoyed too!Definitely recommend checking this place.
Im sorry this is the third try and last. How hard it is to fry an extra thing pork chop??? It was not cook to its entirely, ugh 😩. Rice and beans were good. I asked for ketchup on my three plantains I got with my platter 3, the lady went by 3 or 4 times and never got my ketchup. My platter had hair and that was it, between the hair and the raw meat my appetite was gone and left with nauseas. Place was clean, my waitress was nice and took my platter off the bill but the overall service is poor. We were not ask if I wanted more juice etc. Unfortunately customer service still at 0 to me.
I cant share about my experience with the food because I havent even got a chance to order while I was in line I was literally standing there for 10 min. Waiting for the worker to finish talking to the customer in front of me about sports and about whats going on in Puerto Rico so I just left and from the look of the food that I seen on the trays it looked pretty stale I dont think I wouldve liked it anyways
Went with my mom just on a whim and we havent regretted it. The food was delicous, freshly made and beautifully presented and served. The kids had milkshakes which again were presented like a dream. But lets talk about the service! When we walked in we were welcomed with a welcoming hello, got seated pretty fast. Our waiter was so enthusiatic and checked on us frequently. Honestly the best service in buffalo.
A bit disappointed. Been trying to bring my husband to a PuertoRican appt that is worth it.. and this wasn’t all it.. came in 45 min before the kitchen closed, they had me waiting to see if they could give us service.. they weren’t even polite.. it was more as if they were bothered when customers came in. After they sat us, we ordered, and our food was served on a to go box COMPLETELY COLD. Rice was cold, beans…. we had to wait for because they forgot and when when we got”em THEY WERE COLD. The churrasco was the only decent part of this meal… to add they told us they had no mofongo, but plates that came after ours were mofongo plates... I’m a little sad, I bet this place is rocking when the staff and cooks are on their A game, but unfortunately it seems they pay more attention to their noon/lunch customers than their diner customers.. espero que esta experiencia no dañe a mi esposo las expectativas de una buena comida puertorriqueña.. but as we continue to discuss we wouldn’t even try n come back here to try the mofongo.. the only reason I’m giving this 2 stars, it’s because at the end, they gave us service..
Second time here sign says please wait to be seated Ive been standing here for about 10 minutes nobody said s*** to me I guess if you not Spanish speaking or Puerto Rican get no service. Crazy part is I like their food, this place has potential. Hope they learn how to run a restaurant
Pro: Restaurant is set up nicely inside. The girl behind the counter was nice. Had a good variety of food. Food had good flavor.Cons: wait time for food was over 45 minutes. The food was served lukewarm almost cold. Dishes were not served together salad was served after we finished eating.
Man you better get here early. YUKAAH!!!! OMG!!! 💓💓💓💓 RICE AND BEANS, RIBS, CHICKEN!!!! I was completely blown away by the flavors. Each thing had its own taste and combined it made the dish so much more powerful. Im from the East Side but guess what??? I will jump on 3 BUSES To get this authentic Island Food OOOH AND THE PINA COLADAS ARE FABULOUS!!!!!
I visited this establishment a few days ago.The woman behind the counter was very sweet and kind.Looking at the menu though, I was in trouble. I dont know enough Spanish to save my life, and the menu is entirely in Spanish.I managed to order a couple different pastelitos (chicken, and shrimp), a chicken dish with yellow rice, yuca, and a coconut milk desert called tembleque. The pastelitos I wasnt impressed at all. Quiet bland. The chicken and rice was cubes of deep fried chicken and yellow rice with pigeon peas. Good, but nothing spectacular. The yuca was DELICIOUS! creamy chunks of yuca with an oily tad of vinegar sauce with green olives. OMG! Ill definitely return for this. The tembleque is just as good. Thick, creamy, silky and not too sweet with a dash of cinnamon. A must try if you like coconut.I plan to return with a fluently Spanish speaking friend. Hopefully Ill be able to try a lot more of their food.
Excellent ... good flavor well seasoned. it was what the taste of real PR was needed in Buffalo. I would only add cakes to the menu and they break with to Good service good food 100% recommendedExcellent ... good taste good seasoning. it was what was needed in Buffalo. He would only add cakes to the menu and they are very successful. Good service good food 100% recommended
We were visiting the area and went to Mi Isla. Excellent service and attention. The food was tasty, fresh and just made!! Frances was our waitress and the treatment was exceptional, like family. We feel in Puerto Rico!!We were visiting at Niagara Falls and we stopped by this restaurant. The service was excellent and very friendly. The food was delicious, fresh and full of flavours. Frances was our server and she treated us like family. We felt like being in Puerto Rico.
You will be the exception and of another strain! A good Puerto Rican is characterized by being:--hospitable, (makes the visitor feel at home or better)--humble (accept your mistakes...and correct them and carry out an action plan to improve!!!!)--helpful (ALWAYS goes the extra mile)--professional ...wow...forgive me rightly the employees are as they are...the OWNER is worse!!! Go and take a course on running a business with the proper protocols and administrative, assertive and pertinent strategies to run a business as it should be)--a Puerto Rican...is educated - that is not learned in any university, it is not a matter of nationality, being educated... it is a matter of training... moral, respect (in expression and proper treatment) to the client IN ALL FORMS DlbShow quoted text
I went on Saturday and when we got there at 7 the kitchen was closed. That is not the problem, but if at least in the schedule they add that detail, I dont waste my time getting to the place at all. Or at least have it announced outside and so I dont arrive and I sit down waiting for them to attend to me so that they will tell me that the kitchen is closed.
They have good service, I cannot say slow because I know that Puerto Rican food requires time to prepare, so I have seen that I have visited several times and sometimes the food feels different in terms of flavor or that it takes time and feels strange when chewing it.
All very clean, very helpful and friendly. The delicious food, on time and with good presentation. Perfect to go with family. First time I visited the restaurant and the reality that was an enriching and well Puerto Rican experience. I have been in the area for three years and I can say that it is the first time I feel at home (on the island).
It is the first time I visited it and I loved it there is a lot of food that remind me The Island I really liked the very attentive girls they very friendly the attention very good and the food was very rich I stayed with the desire but I already have a place Where to return when I feel like eating my island style on my next visit I will put photos

2022-04-17This place was horrible I did NOT have a good experience. The waiter was kind of rude and they didnt have enough food to serve us. Our family came to this restaurant expecting a nice family meal based on other reviews. We were 13 people and they only had enough beans for 2 of us. And it was VERY expensive. Just for the drinks it cost 35 dollars. We ordered a strawberry smoothie for my cousin and the waitress simply just said maybe. They didnt have enough food for all of us. They didnt even have a kids menu and when my younger cousin wanted French fries they didnt have any. The waiter also rolled her eyes at us as we were leaving.

2022-04-17When I came to this restaurant I thought it looked nice based on the photo images on the website. But I’m sad to say it was not how I imagined. When I walked in to eat the lady didn’t greet she simply just asked how many will he eating. First it was drinks when we went to get drinks I asked for strawberry smoothies (she also told everyone what they didn’t have today.) she didn’t mention strawberry smoothies in her list. So I asked for the strawberry smoothie, she said “maybe” when she came back she said that she didn’t have the smoothie. Then we ordered our food. Then the children asked for food. They asked for roasted chicken breast and white rice and plantains. 3 people asked for this and the other asked for something similar. Then she came back and said that there was only enough beans for only 2 of us. This was enough, we kindly asked and said put the drinks on the bill and that we will be leaving. She didn’t say anything not a goodbye or anything just simply walked away. When she came to hand the bill I think she rolled her eyes. This was not restaurant behavior. I don’t think this should be tolerated.

2021-06-26I was looking forward to eating in this establishment specially based on the reviews, however here is my experience. It started when we enter the restaurant. The lady who intercepted us didn’t even greet us but instead wave with her finger to follow her grabbed two menus and asked a waiter where to sit us. Still not having said anything to us. We ordered the “bolitas de queso” cheese balls. 15 to 20 minutes later when they arrived they were cold and we didn’t even get napkins nor utensils when I finally got the attention of a server to ask for napkins. The soda was hot and not enough ice was provided. We decided in ordering “La chuleta kan kan” not available, rice was not available. So we then ordered the “carne frita y mofongo y caldo de pollo” firstly the broth was cold, although the mofongo was flavorful it lacked chicharrones. The Carme frita was over fried and dried they didn’t even offer us any salad dressing for the salad. The music was way too load which made nearly impossible to hold a conversation. And the cost of the food in relation to the quality of the food it is too expensive. Hope they this constructive critican and improve their practice because we need Puerto Rican restaurants in this area. La casa de los sabores have much better value and selection than Mi Isla.

2021-02-14Excellent Hispanic restaurant. Food was totally awesome and all freshly made. My husband and I had the Beef turnovers (empanadas). I had the Churrasco and Shrimp Mofongo and my husband the Seafood Mofongo. Very flavorful food. They also make party trays with assorted finger foods like the Empanadas, Sorullitos ( fried corn rolls) and alcapurias( fried green plantain turnovers with ground beef). Very impressed. If you like this type of food go for it. The Coconut mojito was amazing. Other mojito flavors, Pineapple, Passionfruit., etc.

2022-05-13Ive only visited the restaurant a few times and only had Carne frita con tostones and/or rice. The pricing is very expensive and doesnt match the menu. If they can be more consistent with the prices and offer a better variety/combination of platters, I think they can have a nice restaurant. Theres not much competition out there. Y POR FAVOR NO MAS ENSALADA
