Good gym! I go in morning. The equipment is well maintained. The staff is very pleasant. And in morning when i can go its not too crowded. And price is very reasonable compared to other gyms
Retro Fitness Oceanside is a spacious, clean, well run gym. Ive been a member since the day it opened and have always been happy with what it offers.The people are all great, from staff to fellow clients to trainers. The atmosphere is friendly and open. I highly recommend this gym.
It’s an alright gym I switched cause of the price but there’s barely any equipment everything’s so close to each other it’s a good price but they need more equipment
I really enjoy attending the Retro Fitness Center in Oceanside because its a very clean gym with a comfortable atmosphere. The staff, trainers, and gym attendants are friendly. The gym is never overcrowded and no immature people to disrupt your workout flow. I highly recommend this location to anyone living in the same or neighboring towns. Keep up the good work!
Super friendly staff from the moment you enter. From the front desk to the trainers, even the janitor is cool! Met a lot of kind people who even take their time out to offer advice on my form or just to offer kind words of motivation. Modern equipment and premises are clean. In my 7 months at this gym I have yet to encounter anything that is worth complaining about. I recommend this gym to anyone who is considering signing up.

Clean for the most part. Friendly staff. Equipment in good condition. Doesnt offer classes but thats fine with me. If you are looking for classes youll have to look at other location. All in all 4.5 stars
As the previous owner of multiple gyms (Golds) I can honestly say that my experience/workout in Retro, Oceanside this morning was great! The facility is well equipped, impeccably maintained, organized, extremely clean, and the staff was professional and friendly. I met the owner and he too was very friendly and personable.Keeping a facility like this the way he has should be commended. It is impossible to please everyone, but that said, his gym looks like he tries. I say if youre looking for a good place to get a great workout hit Retro, you wont be disappointed.
I recently joined and I cant say enough how happy I am that I did. Julie at the front desk is the perfect person to represent your gym. Very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I think the gym is fantastic with different machines and free weights. I want to start my new journey of not only rehabbing a back problem but moving forward to start a new regiment of working all body parts. Its clean compared to some other gyms and I recommend anyone looking for a gym.
Retro Fitness Oceanside is a beautiful gym. Great equipment. Very clean and well managed gym. Equipment kept orderly and in good repair. The turf area is awesome. Great atmosphere that motivates me to work out. The Owner takes pride in the gym and it shows.
Julie at the front desk is the best!!! I love this gym and the atmosphere. They have tons of machines and equipment, and they keep it all very clean. Best gym I’ve been a part of!
Excellent service, clean and well maintained facility. The staff consistently go above and beyond, and the child care employees are amazing! An owner that truly cares about the club and the members. This is one of the best gyms Ive joined. Do yourself a favor and disregard any, and all negative reviews, or you will miss out on a great thing!!
Great gym however they unfroze my account during the Covid shutdown and never told me, when I asked them to refreeze the account they refused and threatened to put me in collections for $90 so I paid them and cancelled my account. Their billing and customer service is horrendous. They just lost a loyal customer over $90 avoid them!!!
I have been going to this gym for 3 years. Staff is polite and helpful. Facility is clean and exercise equipment always maintained. This gym is COVID safe , all precautions in place.
Very good gym. Staff is friendly. This gym has all the latest equipment for a good work out. I do like the fact that they dont allow gym bags, jackets, etc. on the floor because people tend to get carried away. Parking is the biggest issue here since they have limited spaces. When I signed up , before the gym opened for business I was told that there will be parking in the rear of the building as well. Not the case.
I have been going to gyms for a very long time and never felt so unappreciated and disrespected from the owner of this gym. Very rude to people and a bully. I have literally watched him yell at people in the parking lot and speak to members with a condescending tone. I prefer to go to a gym where I can actually speak freely with staff and feel like an important guest. Rather here at this Retro Fitness you are only spoken to nicely until there is an issue or problem. I left this gym and happy at my new gym. Unfortunately the owners attitude will not change and he will never apologize for how he behaves.
I love this location, there’s a closer retro Fitness to my house but I decide to drive 10 minutes more because of the service, clean equipment and the overall vibe. The staff are always friendly. One time I forgot my membership card the girl in the front recognized me by name and last name. Amazing gym.
Love the fact that I can take my daughter and I know that she will play and have fun for the hour or so that I am using the gym. The staff plays with her and she never wants to leave! I feel comfortable using any equipment, someone is always there to help if I need it. The staff is friendly, and the gym/ locker area is clean. Wish they had More variety with their classes (I love Zumba), but other than that I have no complaints!
ZEROO STARS. Making ppl use a mask is that is not mandatory in long island is not right. Just canceled my membership. My girlfriend also canceled hers.
The gym is very clean and well maintained. The front desk staff are polite and courteous to all members. Bruce, the owner, makes it a point to greet people at the front desk or while he is walking around the gym.
Went to retro yesterday to check out the gym as I am looking to join up and they are part of my jobs corporate discount program. Only to be given a nickel tour.. I was told they do not participate in my jobs discount plan.. was not offered a free workout even though there were only 3 people in the gym.. I will be taking my business elsewhere
I have been to many Gym’s and Retro Fit in Oceanside has all the equipment and an awesome movie room that I use before my workout. This Gym is Very clean with great energy. Staff is very helpful and they even have baby sitting for my 4 year old. He liked it so much that he didn’t want to leave. I recommend this facility over many others! Try it out, you won’t be dissapointed!
Really enjoy working out here. I’m surprised by some of the negative reviews cause for me it’s the exact opposite. Gym is always clean and pristine. Weights are always racked. The shakes a great after a good workout. Bruce runs a tight ship and he always says hello with a smile. I always find parking right in front maybe I just get lucky every time. Definitely one of my top favorites and I belong to quite a few gyms. I’ve also worked out at other 4 other retros and in my opinion the Oceanside branch is my favorite thus far.
I REALLY enjoy the gym facilities! Gym is always clean if a machine has an issue and it is fixed IMMEDIATELY.The staff is ALWAYS nice and VERY helpful.However, the PARKING IS HORRENDOUS! With such limited parking perhaps staff can park across the street so members dont have to waste time searching for parking.Also, as a safety issue, is it possible to put ENTER ONLY and EXIT ONLY in the parking lot as well?
I started going when the gym opened, at first everything was well. These last few months, I have noticed first that they never clean, the studio which classes are held has not been cleaned since I have been there. Bruce the owner is dismissive with his client, he will walk away as a client is trying to discuss the awful class schedule they have. The only reason, I was going for the trainer Sam, which Bruce fired for no reason. They need to start listening to their clients or they will be losing a lot business. No one likes a rotating door with the trainers.
This gym is absolutely run by horrible individuals. My family has been members from the very beginning and love coming here, but unfortunately it is run by terrible individuals with no sense of community. DO NOT JOIN, WASTE OF MONEY and ZERO RESPECT FOR PEOPLE. The manger here has not idea how to run a business, look at their terrible yelp reviews. I have put in a request to speak to corporate because they are a terrible and inconsiderate representation of the retro fitness name.
Wanted to do something nice for my office staff. They have been talking about joining the gym for sometime. When I got the email BOGO (buy one get one) I sent them to the Lawson blvd location with my corporate card. They refused to honor the deal sent to me even after they were showed the email. This is not a legit place. I let corporate know but they did not even care. People spend your money elsewhere. I was embarrassed having sent them there then I thought to myself that it is management at the gym that should be embarrassed. GO TO NY SPORTS INSTEAD
The whole entire staff in the a.m. is great excellent experience Ive been to a lot of gyms for the past 4 years and this is one of the best gyms to go to, the staff really makes u feel at home, Julie , Brittne, Evan, Bruce, Mike and of course the trainers Hubie and Dom excellent service 5 stars in my book. I would definitely recommend it to all new comers as well, peace love and happiness to all.
When I visited this location with my fiance, the associate who assisted us was very pleasant and helpful. We decided to talk it over in the parking lot in the car when the owner of this location approached the passenger side of our car in a rage. He asked me what were we doing in his lot. We were completely caught off guard and stated that we were talking and what was his issue. He then rudely said, Dont be just hanging out in my lot....keep it moving! We immediately followed him into the gym to address him for his inexcusable behavior. I asked him what was his problem, as we were just here visiting his gym and was considering becoming members. He started throwing the F bomb and threatening to call the police if we didnt leave.I have to say this definitely felt like a racist act on his part. We were minding our business in our car and was harrassed by this man.I would never even consider joining this gym. The owner is a racist and a very nasty individual. I plan to put in a complaint with the franchise and comment under the reviews.There were other people in the parking lot in their cars as well, so to approach us because we were black is ludicrous. Shame on this owner for poor behavior and being a racist!!!!My 1 star review is for the poor associate who helped us during our walk through. Otherwise, this location gets 0 stars.
I love this gym and location. I switched from the Hewlett branch because Oceanside has the cardio movie theater. The staff is great! They are so friendly and helpful. The manager Leigh (sp?) is SO nice and accomodating. He greets you every time you walk in with a smile and if you have an issue, he helps you out until it is resolved. The personal trainer manager Dom is also awesome and knowledgeable. He answers every question I throw at him (which is a lot). The equipment is always clean and organized. Overall, great experience every time. My only complaint is the parking situation, but hey what are you gonna do!
Ive been to almost every retro fitness on Long Island, Oceanside is by far the Worst retro fitness on Long Island, The owner runs this place like a crazed dictator. Only retro that you cant check yourself in, theres always new employees because once they find out how he is and how the place is run they leave. Completely overboard with all the dumb rules. The water fountains barely trickle out, you literally have to stick your mouth on the spout to get any water, and its been like that for over a year. Only one big main mirror , Im sure he doesnt want to install anymore because hedoesnt want to spend any money. Ohh and did I talk about the parking its terrible! You can almost never get a spot to park,I if youre lucky to find the spot its on the other side of Lawson boulevard and you have to risk your life running across the street when cars a flying down going 60 miles an hour, There are many better retro fitness on the Island, dont go to this one!
Never thought Id be making this post but here we are.If you ever debated becoming a member here or just going in for the day I RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT!! The staff is great but unfortunately the management is absolutely terrible!I gave over 2 years of loyal work to Bruce Dansky ( owner and manager ). I did nothing but go out of my way to be the best employee I could possibly be and developed great friendships with many of the customers. Even tho I got a new job I left on great terms and offered to still come in and help them if anyone needed to take off.Yesterday out of absolutely nowhere I received a hand full of absurd messages from Mr. Dansky himself telling me I am banned from coming into the gym for no reason whatsoever! I am a yearly paying customer of Retro which means I have access to ALL locations, he simply doesnt want me there now that I no longer help him make money.Bruce is a truly a disgusting and disturbed person who lies and has no loyalty and no morals. The way he would constantly talk about the customers that are literally supporting him always made me sick as if they were termites. He just does not care about anything or anyone.STAY AWAY IF YOURE SMART!RESPONSE TO MANAGEMENT COMMENT:Unfortunately this is an honest CUSTOMER REVIEW! I have been a paying retro customer since 2014 and have never had any issues.I left Retro Oceanside on good terms and went back there to workout several times after leaving with no issues of any kind.It was after 3 weeks of me no longer being part of staff that I a paying CUSTOMER received a slew of text messages directly from Mr. Dansky telling me I’m not longer welcome in his gym.This is a Problem and Corporate should look into his behavior towards all customers.
Credit card stolen and got charged a bunch of fees from the retro fitness financial center. When I ask about having them discharged the owner came around from the back and in a very rude and disrespectful way started to name people who have tried to call me and emails sent to me. When I stated I did not receive any he stated rules are rules and dismissed me and walk away. I have been a gym member from opening to be treated like this was unreal. I called ABC finicial and stated what happened they reversed the fees in a minute. New phones read ABC finicial number as a scam # and ABC emails go to spam. I tolerated a horrible parking situation and witnessed owner outburst over minor weight clanking and still remained at the gym. Enough was enough I am taking my business elsewhere. Avoid.P.S. Front staff very nice.
I was a memeber if Retro fitness about a year ago. One of the trainers by the name of Jon tried to bully me I assume because of his roid abuse.. I was not comfortable going their because of the animosity I felt when I would see him. I asked the owner Bruce to help me out. He promissed to get rid of Jon like every good boss should have in a situation like this. He decided to go back on his word.. I asked Bruce to please Cancel my memebership since I was not happy going their any longer.. Bruce refused to cancel my memebership after all.. Tried calling Retro corporate Jon Michaels - said since they don’t get paid by me I can only contact the club with my concerns. I was furious so I left a review on Oside Retro explaining all that happened so that other people don’t have to go through same struggle. Bruce the owner got super pissed and texted me telling me that I am not aloud to enter the gym any longer. Meanwhile he did not cancel my memebership. Then when I said I refuse to pay for a membership that I can’t even use. He filed for collections!!!! Chose a different gym! This is No Iron Island that the space used to be! Just a cheap yellow gym with a terrible owner who doesent take responsibility for his abusive employees. And then to make things worse bullies you and ruins your credit history. My rant is up! Hope this was informative...
I am 8 months pregnant and they towed my car. When I tried approaching them about what they did management was rude and bullying. I will never go to this gym again. Worst experience everI would like to add to the response from management. I have been trying to speak with them for three weeks and they will not contact me back other than their response on this public page. Corporate cannot get them to contact me either.
In all this craziness this year, I returned to Retro Fitness several weeks ago, I feel safe there, masks are enforced and machines wiped frequently! My wife misses the classes, but hopefully theyll be back in the future.
I was lost! I was out of shape! My belly was so big i once turned around and my belly pushed someone out i to traffic by mistake while we were waiting for green light! He didnt stand a chance! Everyone looking at me while im holding hot dog! It was a real bottom ill never forget! I joined retro and bye bye belly! I turn around now and everyone survives! Thanks retro!
Its an ok gym, but after 2 weeks of going here was told I cant come here anymore because they wouldnt say, so I find out a female assumed I took a picture of her when I was taking a picture of myself to show my results in my fb & gram account through the time I have been doing my workout and now I have to contact corporate to discuss this matter. So this is why I give it a 1 star, they assumed incimorrectly and never spoke to me about it I had to find out via my main gym and explain what happened and was told why didnt they advise you of the incident which they thought was explained to me, and was not, so thanks mgmt lee cox for withholding this info and not looking further into the situation before making a final decision. And thanks retro employee who assumed I took a picture of her which I did not, I remember the day cuz she walked past as I was taking the selfie, trust me it wasnt of your provocative outfit I was looking to snap, if your concern is of ppl taking pictures then you should look in the mirror and see how your dressed and notice your showing more than you should but none the less its wasnt a picture if you I have seen better I was posting pics of myself. So thanks retro for losing a member because of one of your employees inappropriate dress attire.
If I could give ZERO stars- I would!! First off- SCAM. My credit card numbers were in someone else’s account and after $336.89 in charges on someone’s else’s account, Retro fitness and their third party account memberships management, ABC Financial DECLINED to issue me a refund and fix this error. I know that it was an error with their membership account services / set up and they refuse to resolve this and basically told me to F*C* YOU, we are keeping your $336.89. If that’s not horrible customer service, what is?? The owners of Oceanside, NY location declined to resolve this. Now this inconvenience has lead me to have to take legal actions and has been nothing but a headache. This is the worst customer service I have ever seen and the worst financial scam that my attorney has seen. Beware.... they offer you a deal to sign up. Then over charge your card, their system may put your credit card info into someone else’s account and they won’t fix it. Hours of phone calls and headaches and they still refuse!!! Their offers are not worth this!!!! Nothing is!!! Go to blink fitness or ny sports club!!! They would never scam like retro fitness has!! They could have refunded me and I wouldn’t be so distraught, but they refuse to issue my money back and leave it on an account that’s not mine!!! But keep my account in past due status meanwhile my card was charged every month for 9 months!!!
WORST GYM EXPERIENCE EVER!! I dont ever write reviews, but i believe in saving people from a horrible experience if i can. Ive been to many gyms for years never had a problem until i met BRUCE frome oceanside. First off BRUCE walked up to me while i was bench pressing with machine and told me to stop slamming waits when i clearly wasnt. 10 minutes later i was running on treadmill and BRUCE walks right up to me, makes me stop mid-run, and says in a demeaning manner, is there a reason you didnt put your weights back? When in fact i used the same weights that were already on the machine and i even put some of them back to be nice. I figured he was having a bad day so i just left and started going to the other locations. I came back a few months later due to its convienent location. I got a new visa card which i wanted to use for my retro acount for auto payment, so i gave it to BRUCE who put it in and said im good to go. A few weeks later i signed in to retro, the girl at the desk told me to enjoy my workout. I started running on treadmill and 5 minutes later same girl walks up to me and says theres a problem with my acount. I asked if i can fix it when finish running and she said thats fine. Ten minutes later BRUCE comes running in to the gym and straight up to me while im on a treadmill and tells me me to leave. I say excuse me as he doesnt explain himself and he yells at me to get the the hell out. I ask him why hes kicking me out and being so rude without even explaining himself and BRUCE tells me i didnt pay. Maybe BRUCE didnt set my card up for auto pay LIKE I ASKED BRUCE TO, but i most definitly had money in my bank (i even checked my retro acount later and they didnt even try to charge my card).if BRUCE had asked me like a person with normal social skills to bring my acount up to date, i would happily have walked right up to counter and paid, but i was unaware of the situation until 10 minutes ago. As i was going to get my jacket from bathroom, BRUCE followed me around towering over me in a threatening manner. I told him theres no need for that and no need to treat clients this way. BRUCE continued to enjoy his power trip by threatening to call the cops for no reason as i was leaving. As i walked out and he followed right behind me with his minions, BRUCE tried to scare me by knocking the signs over and almost hitting me on the way out. I would like to see BRUCE deny it as everything was on camera. The next day i look at my acount and someone signed in to my acount at about 6 am, who was not me, and my membership was canceled. Next week my acount was charged. Called corporate left message and no one got back to me so i left this review here.
Great gym with new equipment. Has exactly what I need for a thorough workout. Unlike many others, this gym is always clean and well maintained.
Nice gym but not happy with the free personal training session that turns into a monthly package that is negotiable and overpriced in my opinion.
Today I parked in the Retro Fitness parking lot to attend a kids party at BounceU. The spot I parked in was NOT reserved for Retro. I left my car with two children and began to walk to BounceU. Out of Retro came a large, thick, and threatening man. He warned me that if I park here he will tow my car. I calmly explained that the BounceU lot was full and crossing the highway with two small children was very dangerous. He didn’t care. He yelled at me and my children. I drove away and eventually found a spot at BounceU.I understand and fully respect how protective this man is over the parking lot. He has paying customers.I bet if you asked every human inside Retro if they would be kind enough to allow me to park to drop my children off, they would kindly do so.Read the reviews — he towed the car of a woman 8 months pregnant. He follows people around the gym and threatens them.I will not tell you where to work out, but I can tell you the owner/manager is a scary violent man. He has no decency and respect for children. He stood outside Retro to stare down me and my family as we drove away.If you must go here please be aware of this man. He doesn’t belong in our society.
They changed my Bar code number, which is completely NOT NORMAL. I usually visit the gym in the mornings and this morning it took me an extra 25 minutes just to sign in at my home gym in Deer Park, to get my new barcode from Oceanside. Their phone line, is shaky and only went through on the second dial. I missed my workout for the day because of this. I am very upset about this!
Regular Gym - But since it opened late 2015 everything is brand new so it makes it very nice. Fitness Classes are not their strong suit. Parking is not the best.
TOTAL SCAMMERS. Please do not join membership at this place - they will charge you more when you cancel the membership with extra 2 months fees. Total Scammers - Please do yourself some favor and stay away from Retro Fitness

This place is very impressive.. Not what i expected at all.. Really modern and state of the art. I was helped by a gentlemen Jeff Mero, he was super help. Described the memebership process very well without the added pressure. They also have a smoothie station.. this place is awesome👍👍

2022-01-05Joined this gym when it first opened, took some time away and went back. The gym is close to home so it works well when pressed for time but for serious lifters it has plenty of faults. Water fountains barely drip out and the water is warm so don’t count on refilling your water (which I have put on multiple reviews sent from retro and brought up to staff since they opened). There is only one actual squat rack so prepare to wait on leg day unless you use a smith machine which there are multiple of. I have yet to deadlift there since my return but if it’s anything like when it first opened I should bring a pillow because any clanking what so ever is apparently the end of the world. The hours are the worst out of any gym I have ever gone to. I will say that the front staff has always been nice and the gym is clean. This gym has so much potential but I feel like there is a huge management issue holding it back. The owner needs to step back and listen to his employees. I have never had a bad experience with front desk staff but the owner is a whole different story. I try to avoid times he is most likely to be there. Luckily I have never had any major issues with the man but I have seen him get rather disrespectful and have had him be disrespectful to friends over small things. I wouldn’t say avoid this gym at all cost but if you are serious about working out and want a place where you can do your planned workout without violating a rule or having to wait on certain limited equipment I’d strongly consider looking elsewhere.

2022-01-19Terrible management. This must be an independently owned franchise cause they give me a hard time everytime I try to go there. I have been to 8 different retro fitnesses no problem. This place I have to fill out a long waiver and contract everytime I go in there. The parking lot is terribly small. The only one that asks to see my vaccine status so annoying because this place is the most filthy out of all the gyms Ive been to. Nobody wipes down the equipment after there done. U can feel other peoples sweat on your hands when u use anything. The front desk people are not friendly at all. And my friend never leaves his house for anything work shopping all from home. Only place hes been to for over a month was this gym and he is absolutely certified he caught covid from this petri dish establishment

Has to be medical , or because you moved in order for you to cancel membership , you also have to write a letter !! BEWARE before you sign up for this gym avoid the headache! 2022-01-19TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS I FOUND SYRINGES IN THE BATHROOM. Disgusting sanitary conditions . I understand maybe once its possible because the nature of gyms. But the second time is just Disgusting. Check behind the toliets when you clean the bathroom. If u even clean the bathroom. Also the parking is a nightmare. The spots are crammed together and the spots are always taken. Ive gotten so many scratches on my car from that place. Go somewhere else to work out trust me

2021-11-02Tiny gym in the middle of nowhere, only 3 benches, feels like everyones on top of you thats how small the place is. The staff is unprofessional and too busy socializing/phone instead of being courteous and providing good service, most seem like justextended family members instead of actual qualified workers. Im stuck going here for now due to it being close to my work but will be looking for other options soon.

2021-07-05Love working out here with my boyfriend every morning. The gym is immaculate and if something doesnt work it gets fixed immediately. I hate to be THAT person but shouldnt you have at the front desk someone who is in good or even decent shape. Just saying.

2021-07-24Retro fit is a very clean gym especially in these times of COVID-19. As soon as you enter the gym they take your temperature, have you sign a waiver about COVID-19 as well This gym is taken every per caution to make sure all members are safe and can get an excellent work out like they have in the past. The staff is really on there game with cleanliness. There are staff workers constantly cleaning all machines and free weights as well. I might add there are also members cleaning machines and weights after themselves like myself. Bruce who owns the franchise I go to on Oceanside Long Island New York is like a hawk as far as keeping his retro fit gym in tip top form. He always is making sure his gym is clean and all the weight training machines work safely and properly. He has been like this way before Covid-19 as far as cleanliness is concerned. Bruce and staff are doing a fantastic job and should be the model of how to run a clean and safe gym. So glad you guys are open once agsin👍🏻💪🏻
