AS A DJ FOR OVER 30 YEARS THERE IS NOTHING LIKE BEING AT A GREAT PARTY WITH GREAT MUSIC AND GROWN PEOPLE JUST PARTYING TO OLD SCHOOL REAL MUSIC I ALREADY MADE RESERVATIONS TO GO BACK AGAIN IN TWO WEEKS AND ME AND MY CREW WILL BE IN OUR 70S OUTFITS AGAIN JEFF YOU ARE AWESOME LETS KEEP THIS PARTY GOING FOREVER!!!!!!
It was my first time there and its a new location for them as well.I had phenomenal time!!!!The bartender Matt is pure gold !!!Great crowd, awesome DJ and just an overall welcoming, party vibe.Matt the bartender is a cut above the rest!! The club shares the space with Hurleys and one can dine will listening to the music with a great view of the dance floor. The dance floor is a decent size, relative to space. It stayed crowded the whole time I was there, filled with happy dancing people!!!!All the staff I encountered were personable, professional and polite.Im going back very soon and Ill be adding pics. Check this place out and dont forget to check in with Matt the bartender.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I went to RetroclubNYC last Saturday ( July31st) and I had a blast!!!! It is a small place, but it is perfect!.. great location, safe, and the music is outstanding!!. The Dj is great !. The atmosphere is so full of good vibes!!..if you like 70s 80s and 90s dance and Pop music and want to feel like you are in Studio54, this is the place to have a great time!!. People from all ages just having fun in the best place of Manhattan..
I chose the place because of the music but it did kind of disappoint me. The new location is very small so its very crowded, barely any space to move and people squeeze through you all the time. The entrance fee is 10 bucks which is great and drinks around the same price, but will choose a different place next time. I gave 3 stars because I love 80s but many songs were just boring and not danceable so people would leave the stage. I wish I could give them my banger oldies playlist that we Europeans go crazy for. Some songs even if theyre good, they have to be danceable and catchy. But its just me being picky about the music lol
As long as you keep playing THE QUEEN OF DISCO, Ill keep coming!!!! Wish there was a club dedicated just to the Queen of all Queens! Before there was a Mariah or a Whitney or a Beyoncé there was DONNA!!! All hail to the Queen! Keep on playing!! Your music brings us back to simpler times where you just want Ted to dance the night away. Thank you!!!!
First time visiting Retroclub after the unfortunate closing of The Pyramid club. I had an overall great time however with a few cons. Small space for dancing and although the music was great it is my opinion that they hire a new dj maybe even the one that The Pyramid had. He was definitely way more personable and kept a notebook were guest could write down their song requests and not be dismissed. Additionally, all be it I am not a dj, the in house dj needs to learn how to mix. I will visit Retroclub again however hoping that either the dj is replaced or betters his skills and personality. Gave it another try and yup....definitely NOT going ever again..
Spend The 2020 New Year’s Eve party at RetroClub with 10 friends. My era Disco/Hustle & Free Style Music. Had the greatest time that I haven’t had for a long time. Jeff the DJ knows his music and from the time we arrived till ending everyone was on that dance floor. The music moved us all & we never left the dance floor. Jeff plays the best. Manager & staff - great hospitality. “We shall be back”. Recommend this place to all. Thank you guys for giving us the greatest best time. “ love you”. Tina, Tiffany n friends.
Hung out at Retroclubnyc for NYE with friends and had a blast. DJ played all and didnt even need to make a request - all songs from all eras were there. We danced like we never danced before. We didnt want to leave and had such an amazing time. WOW DJ Jeff you really know how to spin it! Id like to commerate you for the great music experience. Bartenders were excellent. Management came around to make sure everyone was having a great time. What a nice touch. I cannot wait to return.
Great venue! Downstairs and upstairs DJ spaces. Great decor and environment. There were a lot of places to hang around the venue. A bunch of bars to buy booze. Theres usually a line if you get there too early, so if youre debating your arrival time, chill at home for a bit. Do NOT buy tickets at the door! Buy them online as they are way cheaper. The place is usually packed with people and full of fun! Highly recommend for a club and especially to see a DJ you really want to see.
We came for a birthday party and left all smiles! Music is great - mix of disco, 80s, to current. We danced all night! It wasnt super packed when we arrived (early, around 10:30), but for us, that made it even better! More room to dance! When we left, around 1am, it was getting pretty crowded. Servers are very nice and accommodating. Crowd is a mixed-bag, but that just adds to the appeal!
Oh. I enjoy it. Its a great place to hear songs from the different eras. It takes you back. I try to go when I can and its a LOT OF FUN! People are great for connecting with. I enjoy the disco sets. Awesome place! Price is right too. The DJ is plays a nice variety from the different eras.
You never know when your last dance at the club will be!! If you had this thought throw it out, the crowd was 21-55 years old. The music was legit 70s through 90s with a good variety of all three decades. We got there at midnight having walked from our hotel 3 blocks away. The liquor prices can cause sticker shock however, it seems consistent with the area. Yes , it is up a flight of stairs but it is only tough to navigate up and down with a 5 inch heel. This is a low key club, dress up or down, we dressed up and had a blast!
Love this place!! Great music and atmosphere. Have been coming to Retro since it opened its doors at its previous location and never lets me down. If your looking for a great spot to listen to the best music from back in the days and dance the night away with a great crowd then this is the spot for you. Special Thanks to DJ Jeff you never let me down always playing the best tunes from back in the days.
So I came here with my dad because he loves disco music and loves to hustle. The entry fee was 10$ which was pretty cheap for the area that we were in. The music was awesome great DJ and he took requests. It was a great crowd and nice vibe it was the right amount of packed. The only reason that I do not give this place 5 stars is because the bartenders sucked so bad, they were so rude for no apparent reason. I asked for a water with lemon and she took 10 minutes to give it to me then rolled her eyes when i asked her to put ice. They had that same attitude with everyone. Once they get new bartenders this place will be the full package.
This is not a club. Its a small ratty dancefloor upstairs from a deli type restaurant. They have the nerve to charge a $10 cover fee. They should pay people to go. Mixed drinks are overpriced at over $15 each and the DJ needs his title revoked because there was no smooth transition between songs. Youll be better off dancing with your friends at home.
Such a great vibe, its really class place, and judging by the crowds the 3 time I went, its a melting pot that everyone likes. Good music brings people together, and good drink dont hurt the cause! Door guy was cool, bartenders were solid, but the music 80s music it was makes everyone feel good.
This place is fantastic! I went last saturday for my birthday with a whole group of friends and have been twice before to their new spot. I love 70s and 80s and they played lots of it. danced all night with my friends and they mixed in some house 90s and current too! dj even took one of my requests lol. everyone was so friendly and the staff was nice. my new favorite spot for dancing in nyc! and yea... i love disco too and they are the only place that plays it!
The DJ told me specifically that he didn’t take any requests for New Year’s Eve tonight. Two groups of younger white ladies came up to him and he happily said he would play their songs. He even did a shout out to the girl from Miami (played Shania Twain_not dance music!). He did finally play our request 2 1/2 hours later. The floor does need repairs and the bar added the tip to our tab. I have to admit the music was fun but the transitions were not smooth. This is a revised version. When I first posted, we were still in the club.
Had a freakin blast at RetroClub last weekend! Celebrated my 26th birthday with a disco theme and this place was perfect! The dance floor had lights and disco balls and DJ Jeff played all the best dance music we literally closed the place because we didnt want to stop dancing! Highly recommend!! Thanks so much!!
Edited review after owner/manager made me aware of my mistaken notion that the club had 3 floors/ bars/dance floors. I was under the impression that that was the floorplan but I was wrong. Rest of review is an exact representation of our experience.Again...maybe this was an off night. I am not a hater, and do not always hate as manager stated in reply to this initial review (and to every other bad review). I can only attest to our experience which is in contrast to some and in concert with other reviews here. After searching for the entrance for 5 minutes, we saw a white paper sign with the directions to the side diner entrance scrawled on it in sharpie. We entered into the diner downstairs, paid our cover charge (really?) and walked upstairs. To say that this place was empty at 12 on a Friday night is an understatement. There were, maybe 25 people. And to be bluntly honest, we almost walked right back down to demand our money back and look for something else. But we didnt. We decided to give it a try. After paying $52 dollars for 4 drinks in small plastic cups (and one was a club soda!) some of us danced. The night was not getting better. The music was not good. We heard Donna Summer 4 times, Madonna 3 times and when we tried to ask for New Order, it took forever to come on. We enjoyed that song but when the DJ played Kenny Logins...we knew it was definitely time to go. We needed time to find a new place to save our night, albeit $100 poorer and with one less hour to enjoy our night with.Others may have had great times here so I guess its hit or miss. Its NYC...that happens. Id try again based on other reviews if it werent for the cover and obscenely expensive drinks. I get it. Its Times Square (my first mistake in choosing a place to dance in NYC) but for that price you would atleast expect an actual glass for your drink and something bigger than a juice glass. With such small plastic cups, they could also lighten up on the ice.The smell of tuna fish and coffee wafting up from the diner below didnt help the vibe either.Edited: This next part was added after the manager replied to my review so defensively. Now Im not ever planning to try it again.Every bad review is replied to in the same defensive manner (and all with the same complaints) instead of respectful deference to our experiences. I manage multiple business SM accounts for our multiple businesses and Id never reply to a negative review in this way. There is a way to plead your case in response to bad reviews and this is not the way to do it.
FYI: the club now has a $10 per person cover charge after 9pm. A cover charge. For a dance bar. On 23rd street. We reluctantly paid and went in, its not as busy as it used to be. A beer and a non-called cranberry-vodka was $22 before tip. If anyone needs a lesson on how to ruin what used to be a good club, follow this example. Music was great but now the place is ridiculously over priced. Lets see if it exists in a year...bets, anyone? What a buzz kill.
I came for a birthday party thinking this was the old retro disco. Well was a disappointment it has been. People walked out of the place since the music is horrible. The DJ is stuck with Saturday night fever and only same disco songs are played. I have heard Saturday night just about 3 times. This should be called disco re-run. There is no retro music in this place it really sucked. Which nightclub has an empty dance floor at 1am?
Went here with a friend late (1.15 a.m.) tonight (Sat.). They close at 3 p.m. The lady at the front door was snotty when my friend went to give her a credit card to pay for the cover. Granted, most places don’t take cards for cover, but her attitude wasn’t necessary.Anyway, ultimately, she said $10 cash each and put her nose back in her phone. I leaned forward and asked since they close in less than two hours would she accept $18 as that’s all the cash we had on us. She ignored me completely so I asked again, and she looked up and said no and put her nose back in her phone.I’d be surprised if a manager would have missed out on two people coming in for a couple drinks over being $2 short but, because she was so rude, I didn’t feel like dealing with it or trying to give them our business. If she’s any indication to their customer service, we pass!
I m really confused how did this place get 4 stars just left it . It is above a deli lucky if there was 20 people here pics on web site could not have been taken here.music really bad 70 80.90 to choose from we were there 1hr heard same song twice .only one toilet ?? wont be back night ruinedwe where here 11.30 till 01.00 the place was empty only one level was directed to 1 toilet down stairs in the deli your doing great PR job but this is not a good club
FUN. Retroclubnyc had an AMAZING DJ who effortlessly mixed old singalongs with today’s hits. The disco balls, lights and dance floor were perfect, and the bar was close enough to dart back onto the dance floor when Bruno Mars came on. The crowd was a bit older, but my party (~25 24 year olds) blended in.
Great place!! I had fun like I havent have for so long time! Music drives you trough time in a very nice way!! You can dance and drink all night long and will still be wanting more! Its really a place for fun with friends, without worring about no onelse!! I just recomend to add the dancing flor like the iconic Odissey 2001! Jeff, please add this dancing flor. I will be back from Brazil to dance again in your discotheque!!
Stopped by last Saturday night. We were really looking forward to this club, but one step in the door and I felt like I had stepped into a sonic blast and had gone deaf in an instant. Same with my friend. It was so loud we literally could not take 2 steps in. We we so disappointed. Does everyone have hearing problems? Is that why the music is so loud? Were we just super sensitive? Dont know, but Ill try again, next time with my titanium earplugs!
Went here for a work party and really had a nice time. Drinks are good, especially with the two-for-one special. BEWARE: Only thing i have a problem with is that they charged me a 20% service fee for party of one person, i would not have tipped on top of that if i had already known.
This is a scam. They make you believe reservations are needed to get in. We got there at 10pm after making reservations with “Jeff”. Reservations were confirmed by an email from the so called “Jeff”. The place was empty. It’s an old dusty place , old furniture and very poor layout . They charge you $10 to get in before you can walk up the stairs and actually see the place . We left right away as did another couple, both $20 poorer. Avoid this place at all times. Scam!
Visited the RetroClubNYC to meet sis-in-law and friends. My sis-in-law has been bragging about how great of a DJ Jeff is to The Bring Me Back Classic Music of the 70s, 80s, & 90s. Guess what she wasnt lying. Its so amazing to go back in time to the best music ever. The best of this DJ unlike other DJs - he played the songs from start to finish not cutting the music in half like other DJs do. The DJ glued us to the dance floor with the best non-stop music. Our thanks goes out to DJ Jeff. Jeff keep up the good work - no competition out thereYou are the best!
Don’t care what ppl has to say about this place! Too small not a big deal blah blah. You go for the music and the vibe. Had a blast in the fall and I’m going again this summer! About time there’s a RETRO place to enjoy the blast! Thank you who ever came up with this place. Love it!

2022-03-20Probably the best retro club in NYC. Nicest manager-DJ, Jeff. Crowd actually dances the entire time and dances well. Michael Jackson impersonator sometimes. Broad range of music and DISCO.

2022-05-08I would have given this club a one star but gave them two stars because the music was okay. Came here to hang out for my birthday because they said they play old school music. The young lady at the front entrance was not pleasant and then when we got to the bar I was undecided about what to order. Im used to bartenders being friendly, happy about serving customersand sometimes helpful, but this guy was extremely unpleasant and boarder line disrespectful. I had one drink and it was time to go.

2022-03-20Thanks to DJ Jeff spinning 70s80s90s classic hits my crew of 10 all had a great time on the dance floor. Great atmosphere for a small night club with a big bar in midtown Manhattan. Looking forward to going back!

2022-06-13Retro club rocks! Every time I go, each experience tops the last. Jeff Wittels, The best DJ in Manhattan is there and he is the ONLY DJ that will play hits from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and now in the best way possible. Throws backs on throwbacks! If you want a cool vintage night you GOTTA go to retro!

2022-06-12Do not support this establishment. My friends and I were harassed and verbally attacked by a man who tried to hit on us. We asked him to please leave us alone and he started yelling at us and calling us nasty, misogynistic names. We asked the staff to please remove him from the bar. They said he was just drunk and to let them know if he bothered us again. We insisted that he be removed or that we would be leaving, as we felt scared and violated. The manager then told me he would get him out. Two security officers came over and we explained the situation. I heard the man tell one of the security guards that I was a “b****”. Then the manager came over again and said the man was “a regular” and suggested we move away from him. Again, I refused and asked if we could just get our money back for the cover charge, as we had just entered the bar shortly before the incident occurred. He directed us to a woman working at the front with a cash box. She said that because we had stayed longer than 10 minutes she couldn’t give us back our money. I explained the situation to her, and told her that the manager had assured me early on that he would get rid of him. I asked him directly to back me up on this and he admitted that he had said that. However, the two of them continued to refuse to reimburse us. The woman was very hostile about it and wouldn’t give us any contact information for her supervisor or someone else we could speak to about it. It wasn’t until I finally told them that if they refused to either remove him or give us our money back, I would have no other choice than to call the police in order to file a report. I informed them that what that man had done was a crime, and that it was unbelievable that they didn’t make their customers’ safety a priority. At this, they finally gave us our money back and we left. It was a terrible situation that was handled inappropriately by all involved. I would not suggest coming to this bar, especially if you are a woman, because they will prioritize abusive men over you and your safety.

2022-08-14DJ tonight wouldnt play Michael Jackson blame it on the bougie after agreeing to... ? Just say no if you wont play a song... dont get my hopes up of at least one good song. Bad DJ by my experience... bad song list, not all retro as advertised, and apparently lies about requests... Dont waste your time and money. The drinks have no menu despite the site saying there is a menu... The marguerita taste gross and was $16. Most drinks were $16. The tequila shot was $10. Dont waste your money on the drinks here. Cover charge is $10.

2022-05-155/14/22 Disco night. Completely hammered bartender that I had to tell my drink order 3 times over a 15 minute period. I was about to make the drinks myself at that point. He kept taking shots with friends instead of actually serving. I hope the guy gets some help, and also never serves again. Wowzers

2022-08-09Music was great! Great vibes! Great atmosphere. DJ Jeff was phenomenal & played all requested songs. Will definitely go again
