Rhino in other cities:
Lauren with Rhino Support took her time to help me troubleshoot--and course correct--a major challenge I was facing with filing a time-sensitive claim. By digging deep, Lauren identified the problem and took steps to resolve it ASAP since time is/was of the essence. I truly appreciate Lauren going the extra mile to help resolve my challenge!
Big fat scam. I was told by my landlord that this was a great alternative and that I shouldn’t have to pay anything other than what I would pay them monthly. I had some normal damages in my apartment and at the end, I’m somehow paying them 1000 bucks???? What was the point of me paying rhino monthly? They talk about helping because they understand the how much security deposits cost, yet bill me at the end that’s 4x what my security deposit would of been. Don’t waste your time or money.
If I could give 0 stars I would. This organization is a complete scam. I never even used the service but signed up when looking for apartments in the city during the pandemic and applied to a few different apartments. After finding an apartment without Rhino, it took me practically a year to cancel the account because Rhino changes their policy every 30 days to cancel your account. Ive been connected with 5 different people who constantly tell me there is a new policy, all without cancelling my account and just giving me the run around. This organization refuses to refund you, or cancel your account so that youre locked into a subscription. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE
I worked with Rhino for two years, 2017-2019, and then suddenly they just disappeared. I needed to renew my policy because I changed apartments and nobody would answer the phone and reply to my emails (and I have multiple Rhino emails on file).I only heard from them when they suddenly decided that I owed them $280 on a policy. They emailed me constantly. Called me constantly. I paid it and then they disappeared again and wouldnt contact me about renewing. Its now 2021 -- and I just heard from them again in the form of a letter from a debt collection agency saying I owe them $20.This place is a scam. How it is this many stars in Google is beyond me. Stay far, far away.
Im starting to wonder if this place is legit. I called to put an end date to my policy and they told me that legally they cannot put an end date until that date is already passed. Thats just not true because Ive already put an end date to other utilities and renters policies and legally everything was fine. The website is clunky and customer service doesnt know what theyre talking about. Will not be using Rhino again.
After paying my scheduled rate monthly and having a damage at the end of my lease. Rhino does not help in anyway to cover the cost of your damages. They don’t even cover the amount you already paid! So in an event there are damages at the end of your lease you still have to pay to cover the damages and don’t receive any assistance in doing so. Disappointed with this being offered in my lease as i was made aware this would help cover costs in the event of any issues upon leaving my apartment. My damages included a small portion of the floor in one room, my apartment complex redid the entire flooring of the apartment and now i am supposed to cover the entire cost ? Extremely unfair. Would never recommend. Not only am i paying more than i should for the flooring I’m also losing the money i had already paid Rhino.
DO NOT USE- Thought I would give it a shot because of the supposed discount, but experienced numerous issues. Should have read the other reviews smh.First, they never got me what I needed to sign my lease. So canceled my policy on the site, and followed up with building management, who also confirmed that they had reached out to Rhino to confirm the policy was no longer needed. Never heard back from Rhino so assumed problem was resolved.Fast forward two months. Never got refund AND was still getting charged. SMH. They finally got back to me saying they needed management confirmation I no longer needed the policy. Lol what?! Where was this two months ago? Turns out they closed my initial request without follow-up, and kept charging me anyways. Not sure whether it’s incompetency and an intentional effort to defraud their customers but either way, STAY AWAY!
Such a great company. They offer a great service and the customer service response in every method was incredibly fast. I have never experienced such efficiency in a company when dealing with business on email, I was very impressed. I purchased a policy and had to cancel after not taking an apartment and I was shocked the cancelation was so easy, clearly a very honest company. If I end up needing this service in the future I would definitely go to them.
When moving back to the NY Metro area we used Rhino when renting an apartment, it was a great service to help reduce the initial costs of moving. They worked with the building we chose and everything went smoothly. I noticed some negative reviews about non-responsive support and billing issues. We did in fact have a billing issue recently (after 2 years of service with no issues at all). I sent a request via the support link on the website, heard back from an agent (Edwin) the next day who said it could take a few days to sort things out, but they actually took care of everything in just a few hours. Id use them again should I need to rent another apartment.
Update: I had an issue with this business. They responded immediately to my review and fully addressed my issue. Rhino fully reimbursed me for the payments in issue. More than that, however, Rhino explained what went wrong and what they have done to fix those things. I believe that the company genuinely wants to provide a great service and works diligently to learn form issues that come up and to improve their systems. I would use this service again (the business has a great concept) and recommend Rhino to anyone renting an apartment who would rather not post a large amount of money for an extended period of time with a property owner. This is a great business.
Overall, I was very happy with Rhino! Honestly, I was a bit skeptical about using them because I have always paid an upfront security deposit whenever I rent (Ive rented in NYC for 12 years). However, I understand the value they offer in allowing me to have more cash in hand. I was willing to try Rhino out and I was very satisfied with the price/value, as well as their customer service. They were very responsive when I reached out due to a billing question. I believe they offer customers like myself a ton of value if you have more needs for cash rather than having your cash sit in your landlords hands for a long period of time!
It’s a scam your not covered. If your a landlord it’s fine but if your a tenant your not covered they told me I’m covered for 2500 and I paid them in full moved out the place all of a sudden I owe them 2500 it’s a scam stay far away it’s build to scam us if I could give Negative stars I would
Do not use this service. It seemed like a convenient low cost option at the time, however they advertise that you renew your policy if you renew lease, when in reality they continue to charge you without authorization or renewal, even if you provide proof you moved out. Very unprofessional and had to report as unauthorized to my bank and threaten legal action to get them to cancel my policy.
Customer service was completely non-existent. I tried to cancel my policy when my lease expired, but customer service did not respond to any messages - whether on their website, email, or phone calls. They have continued to charge me, 3 months after the lease expired, and I no longer live in the apartment. They did not even respond when my landlord told them that I had already vacated the apartment. After 4 months of trying to cancel, I am still somehow being charged.I am not sure if this is a scam or if they are completely incompetent, but it is definitely one of them. Stay away. I have had GEICO and Lemonade in the past, and both were seamless experiences.
Rhino calls itself renters insurance but in fact they guarantee rent beyond the security deposit is paid to the landlord, and that you must pay them back the rent immediately or be threatened with eviction. This company works as a bypass to allow your landlord to get around the rent moratorium by transferring the outstanding debt to Rhino thereby, not being a rent obligation but a private debt which can be collected by Rhino. You are better off paying the deposit and avoiding this service that serves the landlords interest.
While this service does mitigate the need to have cash upfront for a security deposit, its more expensive in the long run. My husband and I paid 25$ a month for our year-long lease. At the end of that time our landlord submitted a claim to cover some repairs - although it was explained to us by the salesman that Rhino is like insurance and that it gives peace of mind to millennial renters - that turned out to be a lie. What we would have seen, if wed read the contract more closely, is that not only do you pay a premium every month - BUT, that only gives you coverage for costs that are above your coverage level (for us that was 2x our monthly rent - and way more than the minor repair costs claimed by our landlord). I dont want to make a baseless accusation, but based on our actual experience, this company seems like a scam.Another fun piece of information in all of this - we moved out of our apartment after 1 year, and therefore did not plan to renew our policy with Rhino. However, we received an email from them thanking us for renewing our policy and sent over a document containing an electronic signature from my husband. Turns out, he didnt renew our policy and they fraudulently applied his signature to the document. They were nearly impossible to get hold of until he threatened to report them to the Better Business Bureau, at which point they cancelled the fraudulently renewed contract.TL;DR - Rhino seems like a bit of a scam, is definitely a waste of money, and generally has shady business practices.
Moving back home to TN was exciting but i needed to have a place asap and with my credit score being so low and me in the process of cleaning things off, it was extremely difficult. But after praying about it then came Rhino. It was so fast and quick that before I knew it the apartments called me the same day i applied and said Congrats on the approval for your new home, and the deposit is being handle for you by Rhino. Overall i am so grateful of ths company and how amazing this process has moved so quickly and fast for me.
Ive been working with Rhino for years on the Management side and all of our renters we work with are having terrible experiences with Rhino. They used to have great service; however, since they expanded, their customer service has become atrocious. In the beginning, you used to have a dedicated Account Manager who would be available to address any real issues. Now, they have stripped away contact with any real support, and they only offer a help desk of totally incompetent and unresponsive people. They will not respond to e-mails in a timely manner, their responses usually do not address your questions, and they now refuse to pick up the phone and call you to fix a problem. Ive had outstanding issues (which were created by them) for months and they have still not resolved anything, even after e-mailing them on a daily basis for an update. The renters cannot get answers either. I used to tell everyone Rhino was great - it is now awful! This is the first public review I have ever written - I am that aggravated by their terrible service.
Jaz was very helpful and called me personally to walk me through how Rhino worked, which is not easy to understand on the surface. But she answered all my questions patiently and in her follow ups was very responsive with my needs. I feel much better about using the service now.
I would seriously NOT recommend this service to you. You always need to check your CC statement... They’ll take out more than what’s due, double charge you AND auto-renew your policy (even if you contact them letting them know you aren’t going to live at the residence anymore and respond letting you know it won’t renew). If you contact customer service - good luck hearing back from them. And definitely don’t email any contacts you may have or they’ll rudely tell you to contact customer service (to which I’ve already received an “your request expired” email from). Oh, and they’ve blamed it all on the system. If you can’t create a system that works, then don’t bother opening a business!
I moved out 12 June - early lease termination due to covid-19. These people have not responded to literally any message, telephonically or electronically, from Landlord or me to cancel the policy in nearly a month. They keep fraudulently charging me, which I’ve had to dispute with my credit card company. They close the tickets online without actually doing any customer service to address any issue raised. (Previously I was unable to get into my account online and it took 3 weeks for them to finally address that even.) They literally have the *worst* “customer service” on the planet. Do NOT use them. Ever. You will regret it.
Ive used Rhino for the past two years and it was a lifesaver for me! I plan to use them at my next apartment as well. They are a great company that made it possible for a college grad in NYC to start professional life with a semblance of savings! Caroline Jackson in claims was helpful with any claims related questions that came up and the rest of the team is just as good!
Ive been working with Rhino for the past year and truly cant say enough great things about their team. Their website is thorough, yet easy to understand and navigate. Theyre always prompt in responding, detailed in their explanations and genuinely a pleasure to deal with, even given the most complicated of situations. Michael LaSala, specifically, is an asset to their team and consistently goes above and beyond every time Ive worked with him (which is a lot!)
I tried to call them more than almost 100 times. They never call me back. I left email, voice mail, and requests that everything I can do but they are not answering. This company is all scam. Do not use their service.I will not give up my refund right and fight for other customers. Today I sent a complaint to Federal Trade Commission protecting Americas consumers. You should at least respond consumers request. Im lawyer and I will fight against you until you solve and answer my request.
This process was painless. The response was prompt. It lifted so many burdens I cannot say I am grateful enough for this alternative.Thank you Rhino and to all Landlords who are willing to accept Rhino we as renters are grateful!!I have already recommended a few people I know who are in transition. Also I love the humor about Rhion’s a little trivia you all had on the site I chuckled!Thank you kindly Rhion!
Will take your money and keep taking it and there is nothing you can do about it. Would not recommend this company to anyone. No one to call or talk to to even discuss this with. My policy expired but yet I’m still being charged I have no other choice but to cancel my checking account so that I will noLonger be stole from from this company..
Jaz Charlez provided excellent customer service responding prompty to issues. Be careful with initiating a subsrciption to their policy though. Once you subscribe, it will take time before they will cancel. If you dont pay attention they may keep charging. Be sure to write an email to request cancellation so you can contest their charges.
Rhino has been an incredibly valuable asset to our management company. Instead of having to pay a large deposit, tenants instead pay Rhino a small monthly fee that allows them to insure their deposit requirements. Tenants save money on the front end and this program allows us to protect our home owners.
My new apartment management told me I had to pay $579.00 Deposit on a 1bdrm apartment in COlumbus, OH. Through RHINO, I only paid $63 bucks & Im writing this from my new apartment! BOOYAH! Im on SSDI / VA DISABILITY so my budget is super tight! My new apartment is $200 mo CHEAPER than where Ive been living the past 19 months! Now I can AFFORD the MANDATED Car Insurance! I got a 16 month lease & Novembers rent FREE! A1 bdrm apartment for $695 mo including Water & Trash! What a great deal, and its beautiful ( **INSIDE - wink! ) . In 16 months I hope to BUY a home through the VA Loan. This is all making that possible! Im gonna use the difference in my budget to work on improving my credit score! Thanks RHINO!
I have been trying for 2 weeks to change the apartment on the application but there’s no number to call. Also I’m convinced that the “broker “ who I believe name is Alba works for the company and pretended she would Broker this apartment if I signed up for rhino being that my credit was bad. I haven’t heard from her again . I never even seen the apartment yet my info is locked into their website and can’t be edited.
Ive tried numerous times to get a hold of a live representative to help me with an existing policy but it has been very difficult. Ive also sent request thru their websites and I still have not heard from anyone, I only get automated responses that give me no useful information.
WARNING DO NOT BUY INSURNACE FROM THEM. THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIVE AND 2 MONTHS AFTER MOVING OUT FROM APARTMENT THEY CONTINUE TO CHARGE ME AND ARE COMING WITH EXCUSES TO REFUND MY MONEY. THEY CLAIM THE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT HAS AN OUTSTANDING BALANCE HOWEVER THE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT HAS CONFIRMED TO THEM THAT THERE IS NO OUSTANDING BALANCE REMAINING. STAY AWAY
I have been calling and emailing about my account the website is horrible it seems like a scam and now you all the Emailed my apartment complex saying I owe all this money and I have yet to have one of you contact me I’ve been trying to contact you since the beginning of this year please contact me back your emails and support it’s not helping if you can email my complex you can easily email me

2022-01-26My landlord decided to file a claim for missing our last month of rent instead of contacting us and asking us to pay (as we would have done as we didnt pay because of a miscommunication and a clerical error on the landlords end).I tried emailing this company multiple times regarding the claim stating the facts that my landlord didnt even try to contact me, my landlord wouldnt let me pay the full balance in person (they wanted rhino to pay out $500 which I would have to reimburse) and I expressed concerns that this would affect my credit even though I did nothing wrong and I have tried every way to resolve the issue.Every time I emailed I get the most basic and shallow response. No empathy whatsoever, no attempt to sympathize with my situatution. Simply the claim goes through and you reimburse us $500. Fine whatever. I ask how to pay and get no response.I am DISGUSTED at how this claim has been handled. I mentioned how unsatisfied in my last email to them 2 days ago and they have not responded since. So sick and tired of the amazing amount of extra stress this company and my landlord have caused me. I just want to pay my claim and move on with my life.BEWARE!

2022-03-17A scam, I wish 0 stars were an option. This service is very misleading. If your landlord files a claim and rhino decides to pay it (which it seems like they do regardless), you will have to pay rhino back for the total amount. This was not emphasized when I signed up for the policy and I would have opted not to use this service had I been made aware. The policy only protects the landlord and allows landlords to take advantage of tenants. My landlord accused me of “damage” to my unit and filed a claim with rhino. The “damage” was actually there when I moved in but because I didn’t have photos/proof the claim was approved. I did appeal it and provided rhino with documentation showing communication with my landlord where they had initially allowed me to make the repairs myself with my own contractor but they ended up going back on their word and hired a contractor to do the repairs. The bill for the repairs was extremely inflated compared to what was claimed to be “damaged” and I do believe they had this contractor fix other things that were not “damaged” and billed me for it. I also provided Rhino with a quote from a licensed contractor for the repairs that was a fraction of what the contractor my landlord hired charged. Rhino did not try to investigate the matter at all, it was a waste of time trying to appeal the case. If you are considering using this service I recommend just giving your landlord a security deposit because if they file a claim for the amount of one month’s rent, rhino will pay them and you will have to pay rhino back plus the premium you would have paid rhino for the policy. A waste of time and money. Please read the other reviews and you will find many of us have been scammed by Rhino and our landlords in a similar way.

2022-04-13Alberto has been such a great help! I was having a lot of trouble with my Rhino account permissions and invites, and I had previously reached out for help and it had not been resolved. I was dreading reaching out to them again, as it had previously been very time consuming with no solutions. This time, Alberto got everything addressed and taken care of, in a short period of time. He was able to communicate to me everything he was doing, as he did it, and get my account back in working order, and get all of my problems completely resolved. I am so grateful for his help!

2022-04-20This company are thieves! I authorized one transaction for my sister because she did not have a debit card at the moment. My sister was next to me as I allowed her to share my debit card info with the customer service representative on the phone with her. My sister clearly said: this is a one time transaction and I do not authorize you to save this cards info in my file...well!!! They did! The have been charging my card ever since. My sister called to ask them to refund my card for the 2 transactions they processed of $103.64 and to please take my card info off her file and... yall...they had someone to speak to my sister in clear and sound Spanish when she call the 1st time to sign up for their services but now, no one speaks Spanish and no one is able to take care of her calls neither they allow me to talk on her behalf. I called them and provided them with the accounts info, they located my sisters account and I proceeded to talk about the situation and the lady on the phone had the nerve to tell me I cannot make any changes to your sisters account, she has to call herself Maam, my sister has tried numerous times and yall NEVER have Spanish speaking agents...aaaanyways...I finally decided to call my bank and place a change back and have my money refunded to my account, my bank even sent me a new card so they wouldnt have a way to charge me again and guess what...they charged me again!!! Thieves!!!!!!! Yall fraudulently charging peoples cards without their permission. I will seek for legal advice and I will do anything in my power to have this people giving me my money back and dont charge me EVER AGAIN!!! HORRIBLE COMPANY

2022-07-22Possibly the worst company to exist. Rhino goes under the false pretense of replacing upfront security deposits. Our former apt complex forced us into a rhino policy upon lease renewal even though we had paid cash deposit upon first moving in. Our policy was $300 and meant to cover $1800, however after moving out we received a finalized bill for $875 for cleaning, one coat of paint, patching small holes and pest control. Rhino absolutely does not use your payments toward any claims so you’re paying monthly for a service that doesn’t exist. If you read the fine print and actual description of Rhino, you will find that they are meant to protect the property owners, not the renters. They call themselves security deposit insurance so really you are not paying into a security deposit at all. So not only did we pay $300 for nothing but they also approve ridiculous claims made by the landlords. We haven’t even received an email to dispute these claims either as is stated in their frequently asked questions section. If you are given an option between cash deposit and rhino, please don’t fall for Rhino because your money will be non refundable whether you leave the place clean or not. You will lose your money and still be expected to reimburse them for the claims they pay out to the property owners.

2022-02-09Absolute trash. My property, where I’ve lived for 5 years, got bought out & are forcing us to use this service…even though I already had a deposit with them, and an immaculate payment history. $75 a month!!!! Rhino contacted me directly about a prior review I had left elsewhere. Were all “let’s get the information, so we can try and help”….dead silence for two months. And the whole “get your deposit back”… yeah, that’s bogus too.

2022-02-11Quick response time by rep, Guillermo Paredes. I would have liked more detailed contract info on the website outlining what was actually involved with this particular payment contract and the apartment unit involved in this process. That is a website issue, it seems. Property leasing consultant really gave zero details about what Rhino was, just said “…go online and pay your deposit with Rhino.” Kinda strange process, but in the end, I paid considerably less and used the money for other important expenses. I appreciate this service and think it’s a good idea! For what Mr. Paredes handled within his scope of duty, he did it well. Quick response time, courtesy and communicative.

2022-05-12This is a scam!!!!!! I looked up the License numbers posted on their website, copy and pasted here: OhioLicense # 1233284, 1234299, 1234127, 1250533,If you go and look for the Business Licenses associated with the numbers nothing comes up as Markle group (websites stated underwriter) or Rhino! Along with that they will take forever to cancel your deposit insurance. Secondly since they are Broker Dealers for Insurance products they are also clearly not registered with FINRA or any other regulatory agency. This is straight calling them out. If you (Rhino) have an actual claim to do business then I gladly ask that you reply with your Principals Regulatory License #, probably wont but it would be nice to see what they come up with.

2022-07-15Just had a simple issue and needed a confirmation email sent to my account. I spoke to a rude agent by the name of Caitlyn who barely listened to my problem, offered alternate help that didn’t solve my issue, all before hanging up on me when I asked her to stay on the phone while I try it her way.
