They are consistent in food quality, fresh and hot and its a very ElPaso-esque vibe which I love. Even the music was cool, Alt Americana. We order the Carnita Plate that looked as good as it tasted, but first we had their homemade tortilla chip that are light and crispy along with their two types of homemade salsa. We washed it all down with the Mexican Coke-a-Cola, sugar, no high fructose corn syrup. 5 stars all say long. Ive been going there for about 20 years and highly recommend you go too!
We really love the food here. Its flavorful and distinct. The salsa (they have a salsa bar if you eat in, red hot and green mild) is amazing. They have vegetarian options that wont disappoint. Only problem is consistency. It always tastes great but if might feel like youre getting a different plate. They also seem confused about what comes with the to go plates. If you want cheese on your taco you have to ask for it. But its really great food and the prices are excellent.
Its kind of like stepping into a food joint in a Texas border town. The place doesnt look like anything special and tends to not look like its clean (although it actually is kept up nicely) and some may be put off by ordering at the counter and then sitting. The food is great authentic Tex-Mex, though. Everything is delicious, and the owner tends to make excellent specials throughout the week. The freshly made chips and salsas are to die for. Bring your appetite.
The food here is amazing. I love this place to go and unwind for lunch. Great atmosphere to get away for an hour from work! Rhe food is amazing and they offer endless chips and salsa... the prices are reasonable and it is also a place I would bring my wife and kids for dinner!
The food itself was good but the staff on the floor leaves a lot to be desired. I approached this young lady with several concerns that she did not seem interested in addressing. The first was that there were no paper towels in the mens bathroom which she acknowledged but did nothing about as I went back in there before leaving and found the same issue. Second was my fajitas did not arrive with tortillas so I asked her if they should have and she said yes. Five or more minutes later I had to ask her to get them for me a second time. Overall the restaurant appears dilapidated and not clean. I will not be returning. And for those stating they have great margaritas, not today they didnt because the frozen machine is broken. ugh.
We hadnt been to the Rio Grande Tex Mex Grill in quite a while. Nothing much had changed (mostly, in a good way.) The menu has lots of choices (but, even the woman at the counter joked...its basically the same fundamental items...arranged in different orders.) :D The food is all cooked to order...and is served hot, fresh and delicious! You get your own tortilla chips, at a side-bar...that also has sauces and jalapenos. My wife and I had the Enchilada Platters and a couple of ice cold beers. The refried beans and rice were OK. The enchiladas were great! But, the star of the show is their homemade Guacamole. I could eat that all day! Creamy, fresh and so tasty. The only downside to the things havent changed, is that the decor has been the same since theyve opened. Things are a bit dingy and dated. But, it definitely gives you the feel of being in a small roadside taqueria in Mexico.
Looking at the reviews I decided to give them a try since I was craving mexican food. I had gotten take out instead of dining in. The food portions is what confuses me, I felt that they are over charging with their prices, not only that but my guacamole was an unpleasant color and over salted. Decent food but I don’t think I’ll ever eat from them again.
This was a surprise to me. If someone asked me out of the blue if I wanted to go to Mexican for dinner I would have shot it down right away. One look at the menu and I knew this was going to be a winner. Pulled pork is one of my favorite meats and this place had it in numerous forms. Ive tried the pulled pork tacos, pulled pork quesadilla and recently we had a family style type dish where you make your own tacos and I was always happy with the result!
The guy who took our order was a total sweetheart, and the salsa, chips and guac were very good, but the chicken chimichanga was only average after eating the one at Pedros Kitchen just a couple days before. It was just a bit bland in comparison. They also dont come to your table and take your order, you have to order at the window and get your chips and salsa at the chips & salsa bar, which isnt a huge deal, but if you want to be waited on then this isnt the place to go. Also, the place could use a good cleaning. There was a huge spider in a web right above my head.
Best authentic tex mex food. Period. A family owned and run gem tucked into a neat little cafe restaurant. Nothing fancy, come as you are. You will not leave unsatisfied! The freshly made salsas and chips are a reason alone to visit every few weeks! The family and the rest of the staff are delightful and attentive to your every need. You cant go wrong!
I heard there was a Tex Mex Restaurant in the area so I had to try it. My boss said it was dingy but I guess hes not used to authentic Tex Mex and Mexican places because theyre all like that. I decided to head over to Rio Grande Tex Mex Grill. Sure enough, they didnt disappoint. Theres no real wait staff. You simply order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. Theres a nacho bin with choices of salsas, an open soda fountain and iced tea dispenser and utensils - all self-service. I had the Enchilada combo served New Mexican style. Thats one beef, one chicken and one carnitas enchilada topped with 2 fried eggs and served with rice and refried beans. Add an order of iced tea with that plus 18% gratuity and it was a full meal under $20. Those of you who know me well know I can eat. This was the few times I left just the last few bites on the plate. Im so stuffed! With an authentic ambiance (and I like the altar or mini shrine in the entry) and very good food, I highly recommend this place.
Me my boyfriend and two friends went and got food and we ordered around the same time, and they got their food about fifteen minutes after ordering my boyfriend and I waited 45 minutes just to be told to wait ten more minutes and waited an extra 20 minutes. And on top of that Im Muslim and order beef enchiladas and they gave me pork enchiladas. Which I hadnt realized until after I already consumed it and looked at it a little closer.
Everything is great - Ive had the guac, Fajita tacos, fish tacos, carne, rice and beans, all the standards and they are done right! its common to see people (including me!) lined up at times to just get the salsa to go, it IS that good and you should do it too. If youve spent much time in South TX, this little spot takes you right back.
Well this trip was upsetting due to the fact the prices were out of this world and we only had tacos, plain jane tacos mind you. Also they were minimally filled and not hot. Almost $40 bucks for tacos, rice and 2 drinks is a little much. Nostalgia is over and food was not that great.
Took 40 minutes for our food. And we ordered take out. This place was horrible. They were pushing out orders and our friends got their food 20 minutes before us. Then the casher and or cook didnt give us a coupon or discount for the horrible service. Never eating here again.
The only reason I am giving this place 2 starts is because the food was good at first. We had 8 people in our party, and 4 of us had shredded chicken in our food. The 4 of us that had the chicken are now EXTREMELY sick. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants, and it will be a VERY long time, if ever, before we return to this restaurant.

2022-02-21Food came out fast and the meat was kinda dry leading me to believe it was microwaved. The price and Quantity was rather surprising and enough to have us return for another meal. The flavors were there, but the execution could use work. Definitely worth the quick meal if fast food isnt your cup of tea for the day. Staff was very nice as well, this always goes a long way for me.

2022-04-23It was a truly rotten experience. We ordered strawberry margaritas the slush tasted like stale refrigerator with strawberry syrup. The serve yourself chips and salsa was interesting untill you try to eat them they were stale also salsa was nasty . Then the deluxe beef nachos where a handful of chips with some ground beef and cheese thrown on top but it was the only thing that came warm. Our room temp enchilada plates were 3 cigar sized wraps with ground beef and then rice and beans on the side everything lacked seasoning except salt that was very present . So we left over $70 wiser never to return and pass on the experience we usually give second chances but this one just seems hopeless

2022-05-10Food is great! However the front staff lady with a septum piercing obviously didn’t care about her job nor her attitude. Was extremely sarcastic with me when I couldn’t hear her question, probably won’t go back because of this lol

2021-12-02The best chili con carne I have ever had. I love the idea of letting the customer add the beans and cheese and all the other items to their chili. The tacos were so fresh and everything was hot when I picked it up. Best tasting salsa and chips Ive had. And they offer two different kinds of mild and a hot.

2021-12-13Whether you get a cheese quesadilla or a combo plate with several items, Rio Grande is always excellent. The homemade chips and salsa are also fantastic. Food is made quickly, yet consistently, for eat in or take out. I dont normally have a margarita, but I see crowds of people lining up to order them usually.
