My daughter who is 5 started taking lessons at Riverside Music Studios almost one year ago. She has learned so much and continues to expand her musical talents and skills thanks to her instructor, Geraldine. Geraldine is very engaging, lively, and patient. My daughter is generally shy, but Geraldine has brought out her inner confidence through playing the piano. I have sit through all of her lessons and Geraldine is consistently positive and encouraging. She always gives clear instructions that a child can easily understand and not feel frustrated. Geraldine has also invited our family to a musical she performed for and even showed my daughter the back stage! Dimitry is also very good when it comes to scheduling/rescheduling lessons. Hes very responsive and accommodating to our needs. We are very pleased and happy with our experience at Riverside. Highly recommend this place!
My daughter has been having flute lessons from Mr. Yevgeny Faniuk of Riverside Music Studio for 3 years since she was 11 years old. I and my wife always try to be present at the lessons to observe how he teaches my daughter. He is such an excellent teacher. His words are almost always on point regarding my daughters weak aspects, and he demonstrates how to improve through his own playing. He is an excellent concert flutist as well. We were once invited to one of his performances to witness his high skills and musical quality. He is patient towards my daughter in lessons and never forgets to encourage her in what she does well.
I am an adult student who began piano studies with Sergei at Riverside Music Studios in late November 2011 after being away from teh instrument for awhile and have been with him to the present. My playing has improved A LOT under his guidance. I have also on occasion had makeup lessons with Dmitry and can attest to the knowledge and professionalism of the teachers at Riverside. The twice yearly recitals are also a great way for fellow students to share their progress! Whether you are an adult or young person, experienced or just starting out, I would highly recommend Riverside!!

My son Jackson is nine years old and he has been having a GREAT time and learning so much. He has already performed in a concert and Riverside Music Studios will hold another one in June. I started to take lessons as an adult beginner at RMS a year ago. After a first summer of lessons with Dmitry who helped me started and shared with me his passion and knowledge about piano during this introductory period, I moved to a regular weekly lesson with Gautier thanks to the recommendation of Dmitry. Gautier is an amazing teacher who helps me make huge progress but also explains music subtleties along with solfege basics and classical music knowledge as he will take the time to gives clear information if you are also looking to develop music theory skills. Gautier is extremely supportive and provides continous guidelines and advice to make progress. He will define objectives and repertoire with the student and has definitly the experience to adapt the lesson to the student - even beginner - to unlock any technical challenge.The RMS Team is very professional, responsive and flexible regarding schedule. You will feel 100% in the right misic school at RMS. The atmosphere they have built is perfect to start such a motivating challenge.
As an adult beginner new to music and the piano, I started taking lessons with Florian about a year ago with the goal of learning blues/jazz piano. Florian has been awesome to work with and is helping me get that cool blues/jazz sound. He is extremely patient and has designed my lessons to build off of each other each week. I think Florians ability and method of teaching improvising definitely set him apart from other teachers and piano schools. Ive also learned a foundation about music theory and just started working on some transcribing, which has made learning new pieces a lot easier. Go with Riverside and Florian!
When I started violin lessons with Deborah, I wasnt sure if it was still possible to learn to play beautiful music from scratch as an adult with a demanding full time job. I only knew I love violin music and that it was unacceptable to not try to get to know the instrument better. I started my first lesson as any child would, with Deborah explaining the four different strings on a violin to me. It wasnt easy to start learning like a child again after being in the adult world, but Deborah always makes me feel like it is the most natural thing in the world. I enjoy my lessons a lot and have committed myself to spending every weekend and many vacation days on practicing. In 15 months I went from zero violin skill to be able to play Dvoraks Humoresque. Knowing how to play violin has enriched my life enormously and I was lucky to be able to find such a good teacher to get me on the right track.
My daughter is 15 years old. Shes been taking piano lessons at Riverside Music Studios with Dmitry. When she started her lessons, she had been teaching herself how to play the piano using Youtube lessons. After less than a year of lessons with Dmitry, she was able to audition for placement in a high school for music, and she got in. She has learned to read music and develop technique. She has also received additional support in her academic requirements as a pianist by bringing compositions to her private lessons with Dmitry and working on them. Dmitrys patience, skill, and dedication to his students are evident in his students progress. He creates a healthy environment for learning, one that privileges the students needs and individual learning styles, while making sure best performance, technique, and music theory goals are met. Furthermore, Riverside Music Studios recitals provide students with a wonderful showcase of their talent that is shared with friends and family, celebrating the accomplishments of all ages and skill levels in a beautiful setting. I highly recommend Riverside Music Studios to anyone enthusiastic about developing as a musician.
I have been so impressed with our teacher, Chris, from Riverside Music. He is compassionate, professional, and always keeps me in the loop about how my son is doing. Im also impressed with the organization of the school, something that we had found lacking at some of the larger non-profit orgs. I know that when I need to communicate that I will get an intelligent, prompt response. The recital opportunities are wonderful - its so amazing to see my son get up in front of everyone and play in a real concert hall on a grand piano. He always comes away with new found confidence. I highly recommend RMS to all families as well as adults.
I hadnt played the piano for 30 years when I decided to pick it up again.. I found Riverside and they have been wonderful at getting me back on track quickly. Their teachers are professional and extremely talented... I never thought I would be back at the level I am now in just a few short months. This is a great studio and I would recommend to anyone!
I began studying piano at RMS in May 2018 after a hiatus of many decades. I cant believe how quickly Ive re-learned how to read music and play with feeling. Ive had the privilege of working with several pianists at the school and theyre all superb. Excellent musicians themselves, patient teachers, kind and warm people.
Absolutely love my ongoing experience at RMS. The teachers are very well-versed musicians and the staff are amazingly cordial! It has been pleasing to attend classes in person since I started, given their midtown Manhattan location and in this moment in time, RMS has made such flexible arrangements with virtual lessons for us to continue our musical pursuits.
Our very precocious daughter asked to learn violin, so for her 5th birthday this summer, we purchased the instrument. I turned to the internet for the next step, and found the website of Riverside Music Studios. Dmitry recommended Nazig, and I am so pleased that he did. We found her to be incredibly understanding, obviously knowledgeable, and overall just lovely to be around. Harper loves her sessions and she practices in anticipation of Nazigs hearing her progress. I highly recommend her and RMS.
I started learning to play piano when I was five. At that time Dmitry was still a graduate student teaching piano at a music academy in Queens. Now I’m seveteen and Dmitry is a Ph.D. and has multiple studios in Manhattan. Every week I’m more than eager to commute from Queens to Manhattan just for this wonderful learning opportunity. I have found a very good piano teacher. When I first began, I couldn’t sit still for very long, and I probably had the shortest attention span any child could have. Luckily, Dmitry is a fantastic pianist and also a wonderful teacher. He found so many ways to gradually build my musical interest. He patiently led me through every song and before I knew it, I have developed a passion for music. I highly recommend Dmitry for piano lessons, especially for children. Piano lessons are fun, creative and entertaining. He’s able to eliminate frustration and is extremely encouraging. He gives 110% at every lesson. Dmitry works really well with kids and you won’t be disappointed. :)
My son has been taking private piano lessons for the past year and we could not be happier with RMS. Great teachers (always on time and with a smile), affordable prices, convenient location and flexibility with times and rescheduling lessons to mention some of the pros.
My son has just started piano lessons with Yumi Hashimoto. He is having a wonderful experience. Yumis lessons are well-paced, she assigns a reasonable amount of music to practice; and her assignments are absolutely clear to me. Most importantly, my son is motivated to practice and learn more and is excited to work with Yumi each week. Im very pleased and highly recommend both Yumi and Riverside.
Riverside Music Studios is an extremely professional school. The teachers are fantastic, and the School is very responsive to needs. Also, Mia is a gem of a teacher. She is patient and relates extremely well to children.

At age 50, I decided to ignore conventional wisdom and snide remarksfrom friends and pursue a lifelong ambition to play the piano. Today, I am able to play songs written by popular composers the likes of Lennon & McCartney, Burt Bachrach, Stevie Wonder, and Antonio Carlos Jobim. I typed piano lessons nyc into Google and hitpaydirt on my first click with Dmitry Alexeev. Only in New York can abeginner get someone like Dmitry to teach him piano at reasonablerates. While he has a ph.d and is an incredibly gifted musician in hisown right, Dmitry is equally gifted as a teacher. I had absolutely noexperience playing keyboard, yet Dmitry slowly and patiently nurturedwhat little native talent I had and got me actually playing the piano.It is the best money I have ever spent. If you love music, playing is more satisfying than listening, even if your just playing for the cats. Dmitry is a congenial andpatient individual who gives the student what he wants. Since last year, I have been using their home tutoring services for my two kid (8 and 10 years old).In 1 year I changed 2 teachers (just because apparently the first one moved to another city) and I have to say that the School makes a good selection of teachers, at least according to this experience.They are professional and precise and they organize some nice moments twice a year where kids play all together during a show.
My daughter really wanted to learn the violin and fortunately we found Nazig to teach her! Nazig is an excellent teacher - she makes the lessons fun and my daughter has learnt so much in the past year. I am very impressed with Nazig and her ability to inspire the love of playing music - my daughter looks forward to her class every week.
I frequently recommend Riverside Music Studios. Sergei is an enthusiastic, accomplished and insightful teacher. I have had the opportunity to study with a few other teachers there, as subs, who were also wonderful.
Mr. Alexeev is patient, kind, funny, and understanding, all the things you want in a piano teacher. Had an absolutely fantastic experience learning from him.

2021-06-04My experience going to Riverside Music Studios has been amazing! I started going last October 2020 and they were very accommodative and helpful during the pandemic. Dmitry is a top tier teacher, goes very deep into the concepts and techniques, is always encouraging and presents challenging material. I recommend Riverside Music Studios to anyone who wants to learn or get better at piano!

2019-09-22We have been taking piano lessons at Riverside Music Studios for almost one year now, both child and adult classes. They have the best teachers and staff, and we feel so grateful about finding this gem!Our teacher is Emma Stephenson - she is by far above and beyond the way we could define “amazing”. I have been taking class with her as an adult, and so has my 4 years old boy. She accommodates to different audience so well, and we both always learn so much in a very efficient and effective way. What impressed me the most, is that for the past couple of months I was too busy with work, I gave my class time to my son, so he has been taking the full 1 hour. Emma did a wonderful job keeping the 4-year-old fully engaged and focused for the whole hour, with so many fun and creative methods, such as playing games, using colors, having mini competition, and writing their own songs, which all were exactly what would work the best for this age. My boy always looks forward to coming to the piano class. He also had a blast at his very first recital at the end of the semester, playing on a grand Steinway & Sons as a young beginner, and proudly earned a trophy for his hard work and achievement, while having so much fun with the other students as passionate about the performance!Besides Emma, everyone at the studio is very friendly and helpful. Melissa, the manager of the studio, is always extremely communicative and accommodating, which made us feel very supported and taken care of. The new studio is also beyond fabulous - very spacious and modern to accommodate a growing body of students. Thank you so much Emma and Riverside Music Studio for the great experience - we look forward for continuing our music journey for the many more years to come!

2021-05-05LOVE LOVE LOVE Riverside Music Studios!!! Theyve made my dreams of playing the violin come true! The facilities are comfortable and organized and spacious. They take great care to maintain a sanitized environment with wipes, hand sanitizer and extra masks readily available.Communication and scheduling with the staff have been very easy. But most of all, I love my teacher and feel like Ive learned so much in such a short amount of time.

2016-02-09Ive been taking piano lessons at Riverside for almost 5 years now! I cant say enough about this music studio. Ive worked with several different teachers during my time there and have been overly impressed with all of them. Although my main focus is piano I expressed my interest in violin and Riverside was able to place me with one of their fantastic violin teachers as well. Whatever your interest is in music Riverside will be able to accommodate! By far one of the best studios in NYC!!!

2018-03-12My son has been taking piano lessons at Riverside studio for about 6 months now. He started at 4, which is pretty young, and I wasnt sure if we could stick to it.His teacher is Mr. Paul Shinn, who is truly wonderful! He is so talented, patient and kind, and my son started to enjoy the lessons right away, so we decided to keep at it. Even though I didnt really expect too much at this age, there is definitely progress, hes learning how to appreciate music, getting confident at playing simple pieces and - very importantly- is having fun!A couple of our grandparents met Mr. Paul Shinn, and really liked him and commented on how patient and great with kids he is. He offers different activities to keep my son engaged, encourages initiative like singing, coloring the notes or trying out something new, and is really warm and kind. We love Mr Paul and highly recommend him and Riverside studios!

2012-09-12This is a wonderful place! Our 6 year old has been taking lessons from Mr Sergei for over a year and we couldnt be happier to see her learn and enjoy piano. Sergei is very talented, patient and so great with kids in his teaching methods. Our daughter looks forward to go to the piano class every week. Dmitry and Sergei both have been very quick to answer any questions, emails and accommodate our schedule. Riverside Piano is a very professional school run by really talented people. 2012-11-28I am an adult student and took lessons as a child. I have had very little time over the past 40 years to play the piano and was ready to begin again. It was not easy finding the right teacher and environment, but I finally did!I have been taking lesson with Sergei for several months now. I have learned so much and am enjoying every minute. Sergei is very talented and very patient. He pays great attention to detail and explains every nuance clearly. The school is very professional and organized. The piano studio is conveniently located and very pleasant. I highly recommend Riverside Music Studios.

2017-03-17Our daughter is 4 - she started the piano games classes when she was 3 and absolutely loves it! I cant believe how much she has learned in only a few months. She is now playing really cute songs with both hands, and enjoys practicing her scales all the way up the keyboard. She even learned how to play happy birthday for her brother when he turned one ;) The teacher is always happy, energetic and excited to teach our little one a new challenge for the week. I like the way she keeps the classes really fun and helps me learn ways to make practicing at home fun too. I wanted our daughter to love playing the piano, if she was going to continue lessons, and she does! She is encouraged by the quick progress she makes each week and it is really wonderful to see. I cant ask for any more and would highly recommend Riverside Music Studios. Thank you!

2017-08-24Deborah is an excellent violin teacher. My 7 year old daughter started with her about 18 months ago and has made great progress! Violin is hard in particular as none of us at home know how to play and can help, and Deborah has a lot of patience and finds ways to make it fun and keep it interesting! We are super happy to have found Deborah at Riverside Music Studios!
