I was new to the neighborhood and needed a home base coffee shop and stumbled upon Roasting Plant Coffee and I AM SO GLAD I DID. I love both their coffee and matcha (I actually think its the best coffee I had, Cha Cha Matcha who? haha). But seriously really love this place and especially the Baristas, coffee shops like Roasting Plant are corner stones to the community and are honestly underrated!also the guatemalan roast is amazing, it somehow has this chocolate flavor that makes me feel like im have a mocha latte but with no chocolate added!
Im a coffee nut for over 40 years. Absolutely love coffee, but it has to be good coffee. This is my favorite, so sad to see the other NYC location close, but this one is still open and I made a special trip just to enjoy another cup of great coffee. Also friendly staff.
Ive never experienced worse customer service in my life — the barista who worked on Tuesday morning (~10am EST) on Sept. 28th often works there during the weekday mornings and she is relentlessly rude to me and today was the tipping point (no pun intended). She has been rude to me numerous times when Ive been in the store, so this morning when I ordered my MEDIUM cold brew with almond milk, I didnt add a tip to the order. She said to me in an extremely rude tone Just to let you know the baristas dont get paid from the coffee itself, we rely on our tips! ... she said this loudly in front of others.Taken back, I said Okay Im sorry... then she proceeded to hand me a small cold brew with no almond milk. When I asked if it was a medium (which I knew it wasnt as I get a medium there several times a week), she said no its a small, you ordered a small when I then said no I didnt (ignoring the fact there was no almond milk either)...she yelled at me and said you ordered a SMALL! in front of the other customers in the store.I just handed her the cold brew and let the store keep the money for it. I will never be back. I walked over to Sunday to Sunday and their lovely baristas made me the drink I ordered, asked me how my day was going and received a nice tip.Oh and I just checked my credit card statement, she charged me for a medium!A note to the Roasting Planet barista — I gladly tip the nice baristas in the store, the ones who are kind and lovely — if you are consistently rude, texting, dont stand up from your chair and bark at customers, sorry you dont deserve a tip, a tip is earned not assumed. If you need to be paid a higher hourly wage, please speak to your management and dont take it out on the customers.
Every cup is prepared fresh and relatively inexpensive compared to other cups in the neighborhood. Enough variety that most coffee drinkers will be satisfied. The iced coffee deserves a special mention since they use a chiller to cool the coffee down, presumably to prevent dilution from using ice.
You’ll never see the owners, but the baristas are working day in and day out for ungrateful gentrifiers. If you wait a long time for a drink it’s because it’s short staffed, you guessed it to keep the owners pockets lined. If you notice the prices go up a third time during covid, don’t even bother. It’s a failing business model run by children, which is an insult to developing humans.
Wow. Im quite impressed by this coffee shop! The coffee beans go through these pipes and its made fresh. Its probably one of the best coffees Ive had, the only downside is the price, of course.Hazelnut with almond milk (~$6)- This was the smallest cup with an additional charge of $0.75 for almond milk substitute. It tasted perfect-creamy and not too strong with the perfect balance of hazelnut and coffee taste.
The coffee here is absolutely exceptional. If its not too hot I suggest getting one of their specialty coffees. Theyre 5 bucks, but dang tasty. They have cheaper, which is also good, but not on the same level. They also have a sweet chiller situation, so their iced coffee is strong and tasty.
Only bring close friends there and business acquaintances. Best coffee and best prices. I wish they were less pricey but! Not every wish is granted. Great place to bring your computer devices and work, even though its VERY LOUD. Every time they grind coffee is makes HUGE noise, so if you can concentrate, its best. Looks like not enough room, but you will be surprised.
Came to this one, as the other one was closed and so happy that I didn’t miss out. Small, but very pleasant place, I was able to sit for a little bit and charge my phone. The place next door allows their customers to use the restroom, which we had some of their burgers to go and that was fabulous as well. I had an iced Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee with some creamer and a bit of Splenda. It was absolutely delicious! Looking forward to visiting some of their other locations soon.
Wow. We werent sure what type of dark roast we wanted so the employee made us FOUR samples, which amounted to probably more than a whole cup of coffee. Incredible customer service and superb coffee. I went with the Brazil cappuccino; agreed with another reviewer that this may be the best coffee Ive ever had. Perfectly balanced, doesnt need anything added at all!
Its pretty cool to see the process where your beans get sucked up and dropped into the grinder to order, but it kind of looked better than it tasted. Had some of the Yirgachiffe today, and it came out with a crema-esque foam on top. I found the flavor kind of uneven as I drank my cup. At first, it was super subdued, and then as I hit the halfway mark on my cup, the red currant flavor exploded and stayed really prominent for the rest of the cup.Better than most, and with a pretty nifty brewing setup, its definitely worth checking out.
Cool that you get to choose your type of coffee bean. The beans sucked up via vacumm tubes and grinded in front of you.Place is small with only 2 or 3 tables to sit on the side. The condiment table is small and tucked in the front corner of the store, but they keep it clean. I dont spend too much time there, just dump some agave and milk and Im out.Not really a place to hangout, its more of a grab and go spot for some good quality coffee.
The Roasting Plant on Orchard Street is absolutely the best place in New York to get coffee. They are completely dedicated to providing their clientele with the finest quality of coffee beans sold by weight, as well as the beverages that are made to order. The staff is friendly, knowledgable and skilled at making each beverage on the menu perfect.
I had quit drinking coffee and then this place happened. I lived around the corner when they built it. I saw all these strange tubes going up and thought, what in the world is this? I hadnt had coffee in over a year and was content to be an herbal tea guy, but one day after it opened I figured Id indulge in a chocolate croissant and cup of joe. Damn you Roasting Plant! Ive since moved to Portland, Or. which is pretty serious about coffee (actually espresso, they dont know what coffee is) and still havent had anything that touches it.

2022-08-09Got the decaf whole beans last Thursday, and unfortunately it was terrible. We used it for a hot and iced shaken cappuccino, grounded it coarser for cold brew--nada. Nothing worked. Really disappointed.

2019-11-09Probably one of the best coffee places in NYC. We traveled all the way from UWS to get coffee here. We ordered an americano and a flat white. Both extremely good.

2019-05-10I had super delicious latte with almond milk, but expensive (almost $6 for a small one)Customer service on my visit was also quite poor, slow and indifferent.Wouldn’t consider as every-day-go-to-spot, but more like a treat.Place is very tiny, so it’s grub-n-go style.

2019-09-14This place is always good. They flash chill their iced coffee here through a still once you order it so it’s always fresh. They’re chocolate chip cookies are always good too. They have a cool roasting machine too (pictured).

2021-10-13Obsessed with this place. I love everyone who works here and the coffee is amazing. Really stellar service and friendly staff; I’m a regular and all I need to say is “hot” or “cold” and they know exactly how I like my coffee. Also yummy pastries!

2021-10-12Best coffee in the area hands down. Cozy little spot that adds to the great vibes of the block/neighborhood. Table outside, baristas are super cool and again - highest quality cup you get in the area!!

2018-12-28Great coffee, cool contraption where the coffee beans are sucked through a chute from the containers straight to the machine. We had the jamaican and Guatemalan beans and they were delicious. Just a small bench inside no tables.
