This place is delicious! The staff, bartender and food was above and beyond. Ramen Ofcourse is the best here. But do try out the savory cocktails which include truffle. They were amazing. There was a short wait on Friday night so we went next door for a drink while we wait. After 9pm seems less busy and tables are easily available.
I loved this everything about my experience at ROKC. Great service, kind waitstaff, lovely ambience and amazing amazing food! I devoured every last bite! I got the Karaage chicken, oysters, yuzu sancho cocktail, and the sopporo chicken ramen. The butter and corn perfectly complimented the creamy miso broth. I can’t wait to go back
The service was good but the ramen lacked depth of flavor. The sauce was buttery and light, it didnt pack a punch like ramen is supposed to. The noodles did have a nice bite and texture though. There was also one small piece of chicken in my Sapporo, definitely could have added at least one more. The drinks that we had were OK but looked better than they actually tasted. The place is also very small and doesnt allow for much physical distancing.
Great choices of cocktail cups! I really enjoyed drinking each and every one of them since they all came with an interesting cup🍶 great foods! Oysters weren’t tasting like a sea, ramen tasted well with cocktails, edamame were salty enough to be tasty! I would love to come back for more of their wonderful dishes with fun cocktails!🙋🏻♂️
Most people order oyster but we didnt. We only come for the ramen. The food menu is somewhat limited. The drink menu has much wider selection. The service is good. The restaurant is small and busy so it will be better if you can come early. The ramen tastes good, not the best I have tried, but its good especially the vegetarian one.
Came to ROKC (btw not pronounced Rocci like someone else mentioned - stands for Ramen, Oysters, Kitchen, Cocktail) for the first time after my partner raved about it for years as the best ramen in the city... well, he was NOT wrong. The ramen was very good, BUT everything else was just as delicious and made the whole experience perfect. We ordered yuzu edamame and those have to be the beet tasting edamame’s god has ever created. It was the perfect amount of salt and spice to start your night. If you liked shrimp, I HIGHLY suggest getting the spicy shrimp bun! Those fried shallots make the perfect crunch with every bite. I want to go back just to order 10 more of those. I ordered the Kyoto ramen and it was everything I needed on a cold winter night.Their drinks are out if this world. If you like mezcal, I suggest the Mexican Firing Squad. Mezcal and spicy tequila 👌🏽. The Oaxaca Old Fashioned is also a must on their menu. I’m a big mezcal/tequila kinda guy and I was not disappointed.I suggest either getting there at EXACTLY 5, or a bit before. We got lucky and sat down at 5:15 in an outside table. There was someone in front of us who was missing a party member and they were not seated until everyone arrived. We got lucky and sat down. There are 3 heated tables outside and one near the entrance (outdoors). The heaters were great, but we went in around 38 degree weather. They were perfect for our legs, but I might suggest being a blanket and bundling up until you get your warm ramen.Again, HIGHLY suggest and it’s worth the wait.
The food, the service and the cocktails. You dont expect to find this place in Harlem. A real modern japanese food. Never have I ever loved a noodle as much as their curry noodles with shrimps. OmG absolutely amazing pair it with their french sauvignon blanc its beyond perfect. Their appetizer chicken is just nothing like you tasted before. The service is more than remarquable. I maybe went there over 6 times in 2 months. Everything is beyond great. Vegan options. Vegetarian options. And meat lovers options. The food is simply incredibly tasty and good. Worth going there from anywhere in NYC. The place is beyond amazing. The real kind of spot that you need to discover. No words can describe how mucb the rokc is a place to try.Update: so disappointed the place didnt invest in outdoor heaters! Bummer.
ROKC is one of my favorite places in Harlem. The oysters especially during happy hour are really good value. The cocktails are all interesting, some are very out there. The showpiece cocktails are stunning and excellent Instagram fodder if thats what youre looking for.The buns and ramen are all amazing, you can pick a poor choice all are delicious. The place is small but they turn tables quickly, definitely worth popping your head in and trying to grab a table if you can.
Delicious drinks and food, plus great service! I’ve been meaning to stop by this place for awhile since I always pass it but because it’s smaller, they are always busy. Now that they have a nice outdoor set up we were easily able to get a table for dinner and drinks! Overall only had to wait about 15 minutes but they allowed us to order drinks during our wait. I had the pork rice bowl which was delicious and two drinks both of which were well made and strong. Definitely a good spot to check out if you’re in the area!
Hands down best ramen in town!!!Amazing drinks and very cool ambiance. The place is tiny, theres usually a wait and they dont take reservations but its well worth it! Been here twice now and absolutely loved it. The flavors are unlike anything else Ive had before. Most delicious broth!Tip: try going on a Wednesday night if possible, less likely to wait than if going Thur, Fri or Sat
This ramen is very, very special. I have no clue what’s in it, but I can tell you it’s not typical. It has a very robust, not smoky but almost smoky undertones to it. The egg was okay but I’m not mad at it; the bowl had enough flavor to go around. My fav part was the brussel sprouts 😋
Its a very cozy place to have dinner and I quite enjoy the ambiance. Happy hour for oysters is 1.5 each oyster so its not a bad price. My main issue is that majority of the oysters I got was very tasteless and watery but thats hard to control for, I hope next time the posters actually have flavor. The ramen is good and I like the rich broth, the noodles are nice and chewy with a good texture. I would definitely come back for the ramen.
Went for the ramen, waited 45 minutes for a table, left completely disappointed. Dont be fooled into thinking you can have ramen here if your gluten free! I dont know why you would advertise offering GF noodles if the broth isnt also gluten free or can be made gluten free. Makes no sense.
Great cocktails and noodles. Need to know the location to be able to find it, which seems to be the trend in NYC nowadays. Like most places expensive for drinks, reasonable for food, is the experience that counts I guess. Friendly personnel. Could have more menu options but otherwise very tasty selection.
Went for the Happy hour around 6.20 and the place is already packed and we have to put our name on wait list which you can order drink while you wait. The cocktail is great with consistency on presentation no matter how busy they are.The ramen is considered small but reasonable for its price.Definitely be back :)
This ramen shop is very good, the pork bun anf the shrimp buns are very delicious. The ramen noodles had the consistency I enjoy, chewy. The little bit of yuzu zest added so much flavor to the ramen, I was amazed at the flavor. The two drinks I had was very well made, the homemade ginger drink and the apple warm. The aesthetic is very beautiful, hints of traditional with a mix of the modern and a hint of steam punk.
Excellent cocktail service, with a nice variety including variations on the standards (Boulevardiers) plus some novel drinks (the Matcha cocktail was excellent). Selection of fresh oysters and clams was very welcome, along with the Momofuku-grade steamed buns. The Hakata ramen was also quite tasty.
As a Harlem resident, I am so happy that ROKC exists within walking distance of my home. Finding myself here 3 times a week, easily, I bring visiting family, friends, and loved ones here constantly. As a self-proclaimed Ramen aficionado, this place checks out all the way! (PS. I apologise for the poor quality of images...ROKC has low but beautiful lighting).First, the interior. When you first stroll up to ROKC, the unassuming grey exterior is minimal. In fact, you would miss the sign altogether, it is tiny and out of view, adding to the feeling that you have discovered a real gem. You walk down a small flight of stairs into a small waiting patio. Dont be dismayed at the long wait...1. It is worth it. 2. You can order drinks out there! The interior is beautiful. Nude walls with a slight texture, bottles, and shelves adorning the back wall, beautiful low-lit pendants, all add to an excellent New York feel to the space. But the food! I am not typically hyperbolic, but you could eat the food off the floor it is so good. Having eaten there more times than I would care to admit (about 20 times thus far), I tried everything on the menu. You cant go wrong here!Their drink menu is comprehensive and wildly imaginative. I shouldnt expect anything less from the creators of Angels Share, one of my all-time favourite bars in NYC. Japanese Old Fashioned is as smooth and silky as they are elegant and robust. The truffle arrives on a slate with parmesan cheese drizzled with honey. When you smell the drink it is definitely laced with truffle, often scaring timid orderers. However, when you drink it, you are surprised at its almost fruity and juicy like sweetness. The Thai tea is laced with warm spices and a milky sweetness, adorned by a star anise and accompanied by a portion of leftover drink in a broken eggshell in a nest. Needless to say, ROKC has an incredible flair for presentation. Other drinks include domes of smoke, flambés, and Mexican sugar skulls. Bring friends if you want them to feel impressed.THE FOOD!!! Oh God, the food. Restores my hope in humanity. The Uni Tofu (not pictured here) is so decadent and silken that you feel it should be forbidden. Uni tops a small dish of ridiculously smooth tofu, with a dousing of an earthy umami bombed sauce. Like being kissed by a lusty mermaid. Chase that with their Melty Pork Buns. Everything a bun should be. The bread is light and smooth, filled with pillowy air. The pork belly falls apart when you just look at it. And the addition of a sweet Japanese mayo sauce basically made my tongue slap my brain out.As far as Ramen, I would always get Tsukemen. However, I was really sad to see that it wasnt currently on the menu. But the Sapporo Ramen is thick creamy heaven. It is sweet from the corn, yet a slight warm kick from the obvious presence of black pepper in the best of ways. The meat cut is tender fall apart juicy. A small dash of butter on top basically makes me want to quit my job and work there. (Really, ROKC, let me know if you need a waiter...for real). The Kyoto is also no joke. You can honestly go with any ramen here and you will be in love. The noodles themselves, often the last ingredient paid attention to, have the perfect alkalinity and bite. Really just great all around. As for the staff, the bartenders are knowledgeable and kind. They pay attention to you and I think they strive to build relationships with local customers (getting there guys). Sometimes, when busy, you can have a little wait, but that is to be expected of busy NYC eateries like this one.All in all, I cannot recommend enough. I bring people here constantly. Make sure to get a few drinks, a few apps, and a bowl of ramen. It is worth every cent!
After seeing all the glowing reviews and mouth watering photos on Google and IG, I was excited to visit ROKC for a bowl of their Sapporo miso ramen. Unfortunately between rude service and ramen that was completely lacking in depth, I will not be coming back. The broth lacked miso taste - the main flavors were butter and cream, and combined with the corn, this made for a flavor profile more similar to corn consomme than ramen (miso ramen is my go-to, but Ive never had one that tasted like corn consomme before!). Scallions piled on top lacked the crispiness you would expect from fresh stock. The noodle texture was good (al dente) but did not appear to be homemade, which you can actually find in this price range across the city.
Great hidden gem. They have an awesome happy hour for oysters everyday and it was excellent. We also had the baos which were perfect. I have two cocktails the first was the Hijiki and the smoke. Both were well crafted and smooth. Great intimate place but I highly suggest you get there early or expect to wait. Cant wait to return for some ramen again!
Coziest noodle spot I have been to and I cannot wait to come back. My partner and I were looking for a noodle shop and the fresh oysters were a bonus. That, and the bartenders masterpiece cocktails.CocktailsEach looked like a piece of art and made us excited to come back and try them all.(Pro tip: get a seat at the bar so you can watch them come to life. Impressive is an understatement.)NoodlesI had the Okinawa chicken ramen. Broths are either chicken, fish or a combination of both. For ramen purists, not having pork broth might be a turnoff but I think theyd be hard pressed to find fault with these noodles. Combined with their house blend of spices and its perfect.
Excellent cocktails served in all sorts of cool vessels like an egg shell, flask, light bulb, etc. Sit at the bar if you want to watch the creation of these amazing cocktails. Nice, not too loud atmosphere with cozy decor. Very good food, though the ramen serving seemed a little light.
The Truffle cocktail was THE BOMB - savory parmigiano reggiano (hard cheese) on the side with the slightly sweet yet beautifully pungent drink. The ambience was also pretty cool. But the thai tea cocktail and ramen were a little disappointing - the egg white in thai tea was slimy and not creamy, the kyoto ramen broth was overly fishy and the sapporo ramen only had 1 slice of chicken chashu??ROKC is probably a cool place to bring for a date but Ill think twice before coming back again for the price/quality. (And there was one waitstaff who was just not friendly too)
Gold standard of Cocktail / Ramen bars. Once again, I feel the need to reduce a significant amount of my previous 5 star ratings. Because they do not come close to the quality, tastes and service of this place.. BEST cocktails Ive had in a long time. Great food... BEST Oysters! - The place is hard to find, hidden among apartment buildings, and I am completely jealous of the people living on this street. I know I would go broke living near ROKC!
One of the best places in Manhattan. A superb and welcome addition to Hamilton Heights. Since its first opening when there was a limited experience (read: no cocktails or varied ramen offering), they have always delivered top notch, quality items and service. They have grown and now have a highly curated menu of ramen, oysters, kitchen, and cocktails, so hence its namesake. I love to come and have a cocktail with my wife on a Friday night. However, they have grown so much in popularity, there are times during the evening where the wait is sometimes upwards of two hours. Prepare to wait, yet you will receive the best experience and the most delicious food and drink. Lucky for me, I can put my name in and come back. Cheers!
This place gets 5 stare for the quality cocktails alone. Unlike a lot of places that do kitschy drinks ROKC makes delicious and not overly sweet cocktails. I love them. Most of food is good, not great but it doesnt matter - the cocktails carry it Definitely recommend the oyster happy hour, and the edamame side order. Unless you dont mind waiting, arrive early, the restaurant is quite small.
Had two awesome drinks, the pineapple and the flower. Not very much given, maybe 6 oz for 13$ but they tasted good and the presentation was cool. We also got a chicken ramen, I forget the name, but it was a good single serving portion for the price and was amazing. 10/10 would recommend!!
Food and cocktails was good. However, restaurant manager Mia, was somewhat rude and unprofessional. As we were done eating, she kept giving us the look to get out. And when we were in line for the booking, she handled in an unprofessional way. Bottom line, the service ruined our night. Not going back.
Excellent food and incredible staff. The dishes were a fair portion, and the drinks were very well crafted and also fairly priced for NYC. Vibes here are also incredibly on point. Our party of 6 came here the night when Hurricane Ida was hitting NYC. We wanted to sit outside and had a dry table that worked great. Towards the end of the evening there was a tornado warning and we sought shelter inside where we were invited to wait out the storm. The staff that night were welcoming, generous, kind, and were clearly super dedicated workers. I look forward to coming back.
Great dining experience with delicious oysters, fine ramen and original mixed drinks and wines. Service is friendly and attentive. Close to City College and the subway. Agree with friends who thought this is one of the top upper Manhattan restaurants, yet it feels welcoming and the tab is reasonable.
Man, we got seated immediately, and the staff was full of positivity from the get-go. The waitresses were so kind and attentive, the bartender had a gnarly haircut, and the drinks were awesome (we got the hikiji(seaweed) and pineapple-passion fruit cocktails.) We broke and ended up ordering 24 oysters. They were clean and very good quality, plus the sauces complimented them so well. I ordered the Sea Urchin+Salmon Caviar Ramen which was so amazing and my girlfriend ordered the Summer Cold Ramen. Mine was phenomenal and the Summer Cold was good but we’d probably order something else if we had to change anything about the experience. 10/10 is an awesome experience and would be here weekly if I wasn’t visiting from California.
Your best bet for ramen & Japanese food in this part of town. The cocktails are splended (try Truffle and Flower!), appetizers are delish (recommend the Melty Pork Buns), and ramen is savory. The only improvement they couldve made was that the food, ramen especially, took a while to come out, much long after we had finished the appetizers. You know its good when the place was packed at 10pm on a Friday, so come at a wise time!
ROKC was a very pleasant surprise. Just visiting my brother in Harlem and thought it was time to try “that busy spot” across the street.ROKC is a small place and we waited a long time for a table but it was well worth it. Cocktails are unique and very cool and the pork buns were unreal. Menu is small so makes things easy. For good ramen, this is a place I would go out of my way to dine at. We will be back, arigato!
Very good ramen and oyster bar! Oysters were delicious, and ramen is as well. Cocktails are also pretty phenomenal honestly, and very specially made. Definitely one of those places where you hear the “oo’s and ah’s” as people get their cocktails, which are sometimes on fire or have an incense burning in the ice.Only two downsides, which for me, are somewhat big players and definitely make you have to consider when you come here. This place is small and it seems to always be PACKED. The first night we tried to get in here, we waited an hour and a half and ended up leaving because it was likely we would’ve waited another hour with how many were in front of us.Other thing that bothers me the most is service is pretty poor here in my opinion. The server seemed like he could care less for us to have a good experience, and we had to try to grab whoever we could to put in another drink order and get water refills. Maybe it’s the level of chaos in here due to how busy they are, but definitely a major downside to the good food and cocktail you receive.Other notes: price point is on the higher side, but for the most part, what I expect in NYC.#rokc #ramen #oysters #cocktails #newyork #ny #nyc
The restaurant itself has a really nice atmosphere - the way it’s decorated seemed very considerate. The service was fast and friendly. My friends ramen with meat was very tasteful but as a vegetarian my options were very limited and the ramen, which seemed a lot like fusion to me with Brussels sprouts and corn inside, was pretty tasteless. Wouldn’t eat it again. We didn’t try the cocktails but they looked very nice.If you go here order the edamame they were seasoned nicely
If you’re hunting for a date spot, THIS IS IT. First of all, the cocktails are fabulous. I started out with the cumin-yogurt (starring mezcal) and moved on to a truffle-honey drink. Both were heavenly (but, fair warning, strong). While it would be worth it to come here for the drinks, alone, don’t sleep on the food. The pork dishes (bun and Tokyo ramen) were mouthwatering. And while my boyfriend isn’t an oyster person, those looked amazing, too. It was a bit of a wait on a Friday night, but you can order those fantastic drinks while you wait. I cannot wait until I try this again!
A small but high quality menu. Im not sure if its possible to make a bad choice here. If I had any complaint, it would be that my ramen came with only one slice of char-siu, but that hardly diminishes the quality of my experience because the broth was just so so good.
The happyhour oysters are a must. Cant go wrong with fresh and amazing oysters for $1.50. the smoky last word is a hit and cant forget the melon and sage coctail ! .. the Sapporo ramen with extra noodles and pork belly is a must as well. All in all an amazing experience with great food and cocktails.
This is really a cocktail bar that also has some Ramen. There is an extremely limited selection of food. If you are a vegetarian (as I am) there is one ramen (better than none!) and edamame. But hey, thats something at least!Youre really going for the cocktails. We moved to the neighborhood a few years ago and this has been a favorite. The cocktails are awesome, and the menu changes here and there, but consistently VERY good. And the one time I ate the veggie ramen, it was fantastic.
The ramen is subpar, it seems fancy but its actually not---seriously overpriced.I guess people are charmed by the cocktails they have: a special drink called The Noe (No-é) its named after a former bartender ask the Japanese owners about its super strong and off the menu!
My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this place back in June on accident and we fell in love with it. We have been probably 8 times ever since. Their ramen is definitely the best I’ve ever had and I cannot get enough. The prices are so good for the city as well. As far as the service goes, the waitresses are the sweetest and always so friendly and upbeat. We LOVE it here!
Love this place. Food is excellent, drinks are creative. It’s small business at its finest. It is physically very small and in the lower level. , You’ll probably walk by it the first time you try to find it. It regularly has a wait...so buy a Bloody Mary served in a conch shell and relax. Not for big groups.
It is only the oysters for the happy hour menu. i got two rounds and they were pretty good. the mexican firing squad was flavorful but not worth $15. japanese manhattan was a pass. karaage chicken was perfectly fried, matcha salt was a beautiful touch and the service was decent. i will return when they add cocktails back to their HH menu. otherwise, everything is way overpriced for the area.
Excellent craft cocktails and a range of fantastic ramen to choose from. I used to go a couple times a month when I lived nearby, but will still go out of my way to pop in. There is often a wait, but totally worth it. Oh - and the pork belly on bao buns melt in your mouth.
Freaking amazing cocktails and buns. Wow both were so good. They have this cool drink they set on fire too. I think theyre known for ramen too and it looked really good but I didnt have it. Pretty small place so there may be a wait if its a busy time. Worth it though!
Great ramen. The drinks are unique and definitely worth the price. I came in on a week day for happy hour. The space is not wheel chair accessible due to the space. The staff are super attentive and the food is unique and fresh. Not a good place for a large group but it is intimate so if youre looking to impress a date its great.
Honestly I was extremely underwhelmed. I’ve been here twice before and had a pretty decent experience both times but after this week I don’t know if I’ll ever go again. We had two waitresses and they were both extremely rude. The first waitress told us she preferred we don’t sit since we wanted to sit inside we told her we wanted to order a drink while we wait and she huffed and said alright whatever fine . After when coming to take our order she was extremely aggressive . Finally when we got seated inside we got another waitress who got extremely annoyed that we asked for hot sauce and slammed it on the table. Over the ramen was good but based on the awful service I’d rather commute further to have an experience that will allow me to actually enjoy my food.
The service was impolite and disrespectful. The restaurant is not family friendly. The server said that the customers were complaining because the kids were chuckling. After 2 hours at the restaurant, they notified us of the 90 minutes rule and asked us to leave the restaurant. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to other parents or people looking to have a good time.
I love this place - the ramen is great, theyve got some solid oysters, but the real draw are the cocktails. Their entire cocktail menu is innovative, creatively presented, and incredibly tasty. The lines can get a touch long, and theres almost always a wait, so come prepared, but know that the wait will be well worth it.
Cute bar and ramen with happy hour oyster special. The place is small and fills up as soon as it opens so plan accordingly and arrive before it opens to secure a seat or plan to wait. The drinks are innovative and strong served in creative glasses/cups. I have tried almost all and each is different. The ramen is good, just not great. I would not come just for that. Service is pleasant and quick, without pushing you out the door.
Excellent ramen and the ambiance is equally impressive. A great date option. Due to the small dining space be prepared to wait as seating fills up quickly. That being said, the dining space does not feel cramped. Cocktails are very well done and the staff is very nice.

2022-02-24Great ambiance and friendly staff. The drinks are amazing. The pork buns were tasty, but the fried chicken buns won our hearts. My husband really enjoyed the Kyoto ramen.

2022-04-22This cozy and limited menu establishment hits your ramen craven just at the tip. Their pork servings on incredibly tiny and not fulfilling. The ramen base is flavorful and tasty. Satisfying all those taste buds.Their liquor options is also limited to a defined list however, the selection I made was rather good and mouth inspiring. If you’re hungry for ramen this is not the establishment. I recommend visiting if you have a small appetite.Decor is bland but does give New York City speakeasy vibes.

2022-06-04100% recommend. Came here with my partner to have dinner on a weekend night. Food was exceptional and drinks were refreshing and tasty. We ordered two ramen and a pork bun. Others have said it and I repeat: the pork buns are sooooo great. The ramen was delicious as well, albeit a little small on the portions for the protein. We also ordered some mezcalita-like drinks that were very good. Definitely will return!

2021-12-04This place is such a magical hidden gem! Best seats are at the bar where you can watch the bartender make artfully crafted masterpieces. The ramen is super fresh and delicious, especially with pork belly. They have other food like deviled eggs, oysters, buns, and edamame as well.

2021-09-07A friend of mine recommended this place to me for years. I finally took the chance and was pleasantly surprised. It is a small and cute restaurant with a cool vibe. The staff are friendly and the food was good. The drinks are the star of the show, really. I definitely cant wait to come back.

2022-02-21It is with a heavy heart I write this review. I fell in love with ROKC just after it reopened post pandemic shutdown. my bf introduced me. Id never had ramen or karaage before. their kyoto made my palette soar and the karaage was sooo yummy. but as of late the recipe has been inconsistent, sometimes the kyoto is very spicy then others not so much. they,ve reduced the number of braised pork in the ramen, down by one and sometimes the fat is poorly trimmed and I get a piece thats mostly fat. the karaage has also changed and not for the better. it used to be juicy and flavorful, now its over cooked and just a more salty profile. there are not many good ramen spots in nyc, let alone in northern manhattan. I really wish with all my heart they would get back to the way they used to be.

2021-09-30Oyster bar! One oyster was not fresh, but the server brought fresh new oyster right away. Impressed! Food was generally good but the small restaurant was not clean. Especially restroom…

2022-05-18Such a unique gem. The cocktails are truly a performance with ingredients like moss, stones and smoke. The ramen always makes the trip worthwhile. And then theres oysters! I try to go early since the small, but comfortable, space fills up quick. Sit at the bar to watch the cocktails being crafted.
