Im sure the venue is great but the person they have promoting it, Sharon Coyle Farley is giving a bad first impression on how everything is run there. Shes trying to boost sales for halloween weedings for $2.5k and some of us in that specific paranormal group online were having a jest of it because thats a LOT of money for little reward- just a ceremony and a t-shirt basically. But we razz like pals do with each other because its overpriced and we all investigate for free as we are blah blah so Sharon goes OFF on people calling them names, saying shes not wasting her time on everyone (sure? Then dont respond?) I called it a tourist trap to charge that much that only tourists would think is worth it so she STALKED THREE YEARS into my facebook profile and dug up a blog post from 2019 about my time at Eloise to try to throw it in my face? So Sharon- yeah- you got me. Ive done investigations before. Thats how I know youre a ripoff at 2.5k for an hour ceremony and a tshirt and a photo. You want good business? Fire Sharon. Shes disrespectful and stalks and harasses people. Not a good look. Even if I were foolish enough to want to pay $2500 to have a wedding ceremony there and nothing more- Id still not go there. Not liking a comment is one thing, Sharon, but to DIG 3YEARS into someones facebook page because they called out a cash grab is narcissistic and unprofessional.
Building is so big and fun to explore in the dark. Came on New Years Eve and during a big fantastic wind storm, really added to the visit. There was only 10 of us in the 60,000 space so we rarely bumped into each other and was able to really settle in and enjoy the space. Hand warmers that were provided by our host really came in handy, it was quite chilly. Alot of care has been put into these rooms and the information plaques and trying to fight off the elements in such an old piece of history. A strange thing happened just before we left, after 5 hours of wandering. We went back up to the top floor for one last peek at Nurse Emmas rooms.... my camera completely fogged up and was unusable....... Time to go!
First and foremost the owner Sharon is so nice ! I have seen so many bad reviews about her and not one of them compares to her ! If you read the rules follow them and are polite and respectful to her and of her property you will have NO problem ! I enjoyed my experience so much and will be going back for sure ! Super cute little store inside as well so make sure you have extra cash on hand as she has many things from clothing , communication equipment and even snacks and beverages! Lots of cool things to choose from and so many rooms and floors to explore! So much activity here so many different vibes with in each room . Even if your a non believer this place will have you turned around and well by very slim chance your still not convinced the building has so much history and pieces of furniture that will take you back decades , please do not let negative reviews on Sharon turn you away from here , she is awesome ! Go capture some beautiful pictures and evps and have fun you little ghost hunters ❤
The tour was great because it was short and to the point, which allowed us more time to do some actual hunting ourselves. The building itself was really cool, I love the older wing with all of the blistering paint. It has so much character!Smaller groups are a must here if you are truly looking to get evps though because voices echo really really well. We didnt experience anything truly strange until we were the only ones left, and we were unaware that was actually the case!So next time we go, private tour it is. Awesome place regardless!
I went 2xs in week and definitely would go again. I have captured some amazing photos and voices on spirit box. I definitely recommend this place to visit. The owner was amazing and very respectful. If you go in and be respectful of the rules and the place you will have no issues. She explained everything and answered all my questions.
I had a blast here! I was apart of a group of 9 for a 8p-2a ghost tour. I had an amazing time. I feel like there are a ton of bad reviews on the owner, Sharon. I am honestly shocked by them because Sharon was one of the reasons my experience was so great. Sharon is very passionate about rolling hills asylum and the spirits that haunt it. She is very knowledgeable. She has a great sense of humor. Her and her staff were amazing and answered all questions needed. I would highly recommend doing a tour at Rolling Hills. Tons of paranormal activity. Such a great time & great staff! Couldn’t have asked for a better experience!
This place is so amazing! I went on the 3 hour ghost hunt. They didnt give a tour or anything. Your pretty much given a speech of where not go and the history of the place and then free to explore. They do some actual tours i believe but Im not sure. I had a experience while in a hall on 2nd floor. It felt like someone was trying to pull my phone out of my hands. It felt like electricity though... an odd feeling. I would recommend you go and check it out.
Had this place on my list for a while and finally did the over night till 4 am lock in last night and was already planning my trip back on the way home. Had an amazing time from start to finish. Sharon is an awesome person, super easy to talk to, very knowledgeable, and doesn’t try and sell you on anything. Also helped some unexplainable things happened but I will definitely be back here. Be sure to bring cash for the snack bar and stuff and also don’t forget your cameras!!
Absolutely love this place! Andrew was amazing to us in showing us the building and telling us how to respect the spirits! Want to thank Sharron for being so good to me despite me being a little confused with the paperwork, she was great! Definitely want to make plans to visit again!
The owner was a complete b****, we accidentally bought tickets for the wrong day, our fault and we understood that, a older couple did the same thing. Sharon is a complete Karen, the embodiment. She kept yelling at us and making us feel like we were complete idiots. I have never been so disrespected in my life and neither has my friend. We should’ve cussed her out. Yes, we messed up. But she didn’t have to be so rude about it. She was literally yelling at us about it, basically throwing it in our face that we couldn’t go in. And if we wanted to we would have to pay $80 each. Honestly never go here, this is an absolute scam and this lady should not be allowed to own this building. The date we were supposed to go was the 16th 1-4am and we accidentally came the 17th at midnight (Sunday), again our mistake. Simple thing is, she shouldn’t of treated us like that. Nor the other couple that did the same thing.
Great historical building with a haunted atmosphere to explore with my family celebrating the Halloween season. Buying tickets was kind of “sketchy”. Redundantly putting in your information over and over with the constant threats and reminders that if you don’t do everything correctly, you’ll be turned away without a refund. Once tickets were purchased I got an email stating that if I don’t go back into the website by 3:30pm to fill out a completely separate registration page, I could be turned away with no refund. Once on sight, the owner came out of the entrance of the building and started calling people up by group sizes using a bull horn. As our party of 4 stepped up to produce tickets, she proceeded to ask what was in our pockets. My wife (50yrs old) had to stand there while she was made to empty her pockets to show her flashlight and explain why she had a crystal in her pocket ? She was tapping my wife’s pocket saying that she knew there was more in there, show needed to see it all. We were also warned that the place was full of cameras and if she even sees a face mask come off anyone’s nose, they would be escorted out with no refund. I don’t know her past experiences with letting people on the property but she could have read her audience a little better, been a little friendlier and more hospitable. Once inside, we had to fill out yet another form. The mini tour consisted of a lecture and a brief video. It was mentioned that “she needed the money to buy tar for the roof”. There was no leaving in or out without an escort. Once we were left to explore the building, it was fun and really interesting. Lots of places labeling and explaining the different rooms. Various floors and wings, lots of rooms staged with seats and items from previous occupants. For the serious ghost hunter you might look into a private session. People attending were young and old, some serious, some just having fun. 40 people walking around with flashlights, exploring and talking. It would of been difficult to conduct anything too serious. We felt like the mood and fun of the experience was kinda stolen before it even started but In the end, we got what we paid for. We explored a creepy asylum in the night.
We came from Niagara Falls after getting food, after following Google maps, we parked behind because directions lead us there, those orange spray painted post is apparently a no trespassing sign but it doesnt say that, anyway we were told to move, so we did. We walk up the ramp and were just on time, she said and I quote I shouldnt even take you, you disrespected my business already. After some talking to Sharon she calmed down, and let us in. Whatever, couple hours go by and we saw the medium (hey for $15 what the hell, ill take it) she was mostly right about a few things. My friend gets one and she tells her to hurry up, we dont have all night. I gave 2 stars because the owner needs to work on her people skills and learn how to run a business. History behind the building was cool, but she offput my groups night. I low-key think Sharon is possessed.
I booked this last week, and read all the reviews afterwards. I started to panic a little seeing all these rotten, awful comments about Sharon being a horrible person, etc. Well I went last night, and had a fabulous time. Sharon wasnt mean to anyone, and there were about 50 people there. She wasnt rude, and joked with people. Seems like there are a lot of people that were just mad about the explicit rules, which are there for solid reasons. We were lucky enough to experience some minimal action while there, nothing major. Would go again, for sure.
Went this past weekend with my friends for a private winter ghost hunt. I read a lot of reviews online and was nervous about the owner, but she was so sweet. She educated us with the history and took us around and showed us the hot spots and how to handle paranormal activity properly so we could have a good experience. If you go their with respect and good intensions I think everyone will have an amazing time like my friends and I did. We experienced so much and plan on going back when we can!
Very interesting place, the entire area including the building gives me the creeps. My heart broke as I imagined the life of those who inhabited and probably died there with very few visits from their families. It was not only the indigent but special needs individuals orphans or just people unwanted by their families. The place is now considered to be haunted, there is a paranormal tour available to the public. The sign reads ,Poor house....
What a fabulous adventure! This was my first time at an establishment like this and I would highly recommend it! I acquired a lot of activity on my spirit box, and being a new to this, Sharon was very helpful! Of course, there are rules to follow...but they are for a very good reason. One can tell this is part of her home! I will definitely go back again and am already sharing my experience with my friends! Thank you, Sharon!
The owner is Very abrasive and overall unpleasant as a neutral state, but the property itself was cool to wander around in. Its pretty big and theres a few hidden gags around (like a fake dead body) to keep you entertained. The food and drink rule is transparently money-grubbing when one has already spent so much, and it was irritating that you couldnt even bring in bottled water for a four hour tour in the summer. Im glad I did it, but they need to either lower their prices or work on their customer service skills. 😬
Like many, it wasnt the building itself that was the problem, it was the owner, Sharon. When we first arrived, our bags were checked and she noticed that there was an unopened apple juice in my bag that I was carrying for my diabetic friend. After telling me No outside food or beverages in here, I explained to her that it was for my friend who is a diabetic. She then raised her voice at our group in front of everyone stating I have stuff she can buy in there but you cant bring it in, if I do it for her, I have to do it for everyone. We soon figured out that her lack of accommodation for someone with a disability violated federal law. She had also taken away our friends flashlight halfway through our tour because it could be used as a weapon. She was incredibly ignorant and felt like she was rude just to be rude.
The owner Sharon was just awful!! Shes rude. Before even entering the building she was obviously embarrassing a group that was just waiting for the rest of their party. Putting them on the spot and just plain rude. She got after me for just asking a question about a picture of a young man on the wall. She said I dont really want to discuss it. Well then why do you have the picture up in the main hallway? If its private and you dont want to discuss it then put it in your office. She just wants your money folks!!
THIS IS A SCAM! DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS PLACE! The owner Sharon decided to take our money and denied us entry before even arriving there. Clearly she is running a scam out of her building. Be sure to read all the reviews before even considering this place. She doesnt know how to conduct herself appropriately. She yells and screams ar you making assumptions about us that are completely irrelevant and make no sense. Good luck.
My boyfriend and two friends went the night of 10/29. we had a great time. it was so cool going through the building and experiencing the paranormal. we thought we weren’t going to see or have anything happen, but we were proven wrong. my boyfriend was sitting in the barber chair and roleplayed with the barber saying he needs his hair cut and he had somebody lift his hair up. while one of us were on the morgue table, our emf started going NUTS when we were acting like we were dying and the suit kept spinning towards the person on the morgue table and then going back to the position we found it in when we entered the room (towards the door). we have seen some odd things in our pictures and we all have yet to review our evp sessions due to commitments from halloween and our personal lives. we are already talking about coming there again. we loved it!!! thank you sharon coyle, the rolling hills staff and the spirits who inhabit the building for having us. we will be back soon!!!
Omg super cool! Went August 27 2021 & this was my first time to ever do something like this. The gentlemen working was so helpful & very nice! He had a lot of information that helped through out the night. I highly recommend! I will for sure be going back (when I’m not such a scardy cat)
The place was interesting. Something different to do. I did not see any ghosts, but it was still cool to walk around the old buildings. I recommend bringing a weak flashlight or none at all. It is much better in the dark. The checkin process was rather annoying. Sharon who runs the place was ordering people around in the parking lot with a megaphone. Seemed unnecessary since there were only about 15 people. Then we stood in line for about 10 minutes in order to be walked in one by one to a room where we sat at tables for almost 20 minutes and had to fill out more paperworkand then bring the paperwork up one at a time. I get the social distancing but this was just flat inefficient using social distancing as an excuse. Why did we fill out a huge annoying form on the internet, just to do it again when we got there? The place just did not seem friendly and that was the first impression. Once you are on your own, it is a cool thing to do, but be prepared for a less than fun start to the evening.
Was a cool experience. Took a family member with me who loves ghost tours and visiting historic buildings. We caught some orbs on camera and heard a man voice whispering from the closet in Georges room. Giving it 3 stars because the amount of ppl that were on the tour with us during COVID was still insane. People were loud and non respectful of others on the tour; a couple tried scaring us and doing fake ghost sounds. Nobody was really enforcing the rules the owner put out. Was definitely spooky and unique experience.
We had a Great experience - unfortunately we couldnt stay quiet in one place for too long before another group caught up but we enjoyed the whole grounds in the time allotted.Generally I dont post reviews but I have seen so many 1 star reviews because of rules excluding people or whole groups. In fairness ALL rules are signed for when buying a ticket. Drinking is strictly prohibited - complaining about just drinking one outside before your tour because you think its ok? You signed that you understood it wasnt. The woman that owns the place has a business to run. Is she friendly and understanding to rules you break? No. Just follow the rules ans youll have a great experience. She has a business to run and codes she has to follow.
Wow! Horrible experience! We were just screamed at by the owner in front of the whole group!! Going was a surprise to my husband for his birthday. She saw that he had a beer in his hand on the outside grounds. No one was drunk and no one had any intention of his taking a beer in with him. We were waiting for the place to open and I was filling him on on what we were doing. Not only did they throw out our whole group ( and we had spent $260 on tix) when no one but my husband had a beer or had been drinking. She also threw out another couple that met us there and they had their own separate reservation! She was rude, unprofessional and unbelievably unfair. We won’t be back. Beware of this place because of her!!
Went there last year. Me and my boyfriend had a great time. The volunteers were wonderful. The owner was great. There knoledge was wonderful. The building was just eerie on its own. Didnt really see anything buT, it is definitely worth going to on a ghost tour. Would love to go back again for the 8 hour tour since we didnt last the 8 hours the first time. I would definitely recommend going to Rolling hills worth the drive and the money for the tour.
So Just so were clear, you are not to message the host with any legitimate questions about the tour, because she will not only find you suspicious, but will actually ban you from coming? If Im going to pay $80 for something that was completely free when I was kid, I think I have every right to know if there are areas in the building where Im not allowed to go. Id recommend a friendlier business when choosing your ghost tours this year. She only bought the place to capitalize off these spirits anyway.
Like many others, I would not even give Rolling Hills 1 star. The owner, Sharon (now synonymous with Karen) was beyond rude and obnoxious. We arrived in a group of six. This was supposed to be a birthday surprise for one of our friends. He did not know that there was no drinking on the premises. The rest of us didnt pay attention to the fact that he brought beer with him. We knew he had a very small cooler, but he also drinks soft drinks and water and we all spent the day together and he was not drinking. While in the parking lot of Rolling Hills he grabbed a beer and proceeded to drink it. He was not going to take it into the building. The rest of us didnt even notice. The owner, Sharon, came out and started to address the crowd when she noticed our friend had a beer in his hand. Our bad for not explaining it to Joe. What followed was nothing short of a Karen Meltdown Experience. She proceeded to yell and actually scream at us in front of a crowd of people. She kicked us out and flaunted the fact we would not be receiving a refund. She accused all of us disrespecting her, her property , and her business. My wife and our friends wife tried to apologize but the owner continued screaming at us and never let them speak. We were packing up to leave and were not arguing with her at that point. She stormed away while yelling at us, went inside the building for about two seconds and came back out with a clip board and continued to yell at us. At this point I asked why she was yelling at us because we were not giving her a hard time and that we were leaving. She stated that due to our actions she was made to look like the bad guy in front of everyone else. I assured her that was not our intent but she continued to yell and tell to leave and reminded us again that we would not be receiving a refund as if to add insult to injury. As we tried to leave she stopped us and told us that she needed our names so she could cross us off the guest list. While attempting to give her our names she continued to yell at us some more instead of crossing our names off the list. At this point I had enough and started yelling back at her and told her to figure it out. She proceeded to tell a large group of people how disrespectful we were and that we were drinking on her property when it clearly states that we cant. Yes, our buddy did have a beer. We arent denying that. But this was surprise to him on his birthday. We didnt mean to disrespect anyone. The reason she looks bad had nothing to do with the fact that our friend had a beer. It has everything to do with the way she treated us. We are all in our middle ages (mid- forties to mid- fifties). We dont go out looking for trouble or give anyone a hard time. My suggestion is dont waste your money here. We dont know if youll have any encounters with spirits from the past, but you are guaranteed to meet a real witch.
Fun place to visit and a nice history lesson. You can touch and interact with most of the stuff. Im not the type of person who is going to see ghost but the owner, who was our tour guide, was an amazing story teller! It was really easy to enjoy the tour, the stories, and the exploring. I highly recommend going.
I took the 2 hour tour of Rolling Hills Asylum and heres my honest feedback. First, I found the tour interesting with Sharon telling the stories of the building. Shes clearly very passionate about Rolling Hills Asylum and she paced the tour very well. Some of the more interesting rooms had little plaques with some photos and information which was a really nice touch. What wasnt great was that no video recording was allowed on the tour for some reason. I dont think this was written anywhere when I signed up for the tour. You are allowed to take photos though. Another strange thing was that no LED flashlights were allowed for some reason. Make sure you bring the old MAG non-LED flashlights instead. During the tour, nothing paranormal really happened to me, but prior to the tour, I heard a man faintly groaning while I was parked outside the car waiting. Im pretty sure it was from inside the building where I was directly parked in front of. While in the waiting room, I saw a dark shadow pass between two windows. Rolling Hills Asylum is definitely worth visiting if youre interested in ghosts. If you expect to have an paranormal experience, you might be disappointed as those are going to be rare. Its still a fascinating place to visit.
This was one of the worse experiences my husband and I have had. The owner of this place acted just short of being psychotic. We observed her screaming at her guests and literally getting in their faces. It was one of the most embarrassing displays of unprofessional behavior I have seen. I certainly will not be back and in good conscience cannot recommend this place to anyone else.
My friends and I went last night and we have been looking forward to this for about a month. While we were there the owner yelled at us and threaten to kick us out for “screaming”( we were not the ones screaming.).. we explained to her that it was not us. After that it ruined the experience for us, as we were even afraid to speak louder than a whisper due to the fact we didn’t want to be blamed again. I think the owner should have apologized or even made sure it was us before she just made a scene and told her “she is serious and will kick us out” while we were literally sitting in the room waiting for any “spirits”We read the reviews before and didn’t want to believe in them, but now I understand why she has such a bad rap.
Loved it! Sharon was great. She gave us a short tour of the building with its history and a few of the ghosts. Then she turned us loose. We could explore and ghost hunter anywhere inside the building as long as the door wasnt locked. Had some great experiences. Voices, lights, etc. Cant wait to go back.
I don’t understand all the harsh and rude comments about Sharon, she was very polite and is very dedicated to her job. She treats the place like home and it shows. The only reason I gave 4 stars was because there is no indoor bathroom (only a porta potty) and I didn’t experience anything paranormal. I love paranormal stuff and was super excited to interact with the spirits there but nothing happened. It also could have been because it was a school trip so it was during the day. Although I didn’t experience any activity, learning about the building’s history was VERY interesting. The asylum has a very spooky atmosphere to it so I would suggest doing a night tour. Sharon and the other lady who was working there (I cant remember her name) made the tour very enjoyable.
The place is cool and Im sure people have had experiences but overall theres too many people being loud and obnoxious to really investigate. Even during their limited ticket sales due to Covid. Id hate to see how packed it is when theyre not limited because of the virus. They also screwed us out of and hours worth of time due to daylight savings. When I asked about it I was told you payed for 3 hours and got 3 hours. We didnt, we only got 2 hours. Apparently simple math is not their strong suit unless it has to deal with their gift shop. Overall unimpressed and highly disappointed.
Went here the other night with my boyfriend for our anniversary. The tour was very informative and we got an idea of what to expect out of our evening. This was our first time in a haunted place and we can say for sure this place is haunted! We purchased equipment for the second half of our hunt and the staff were very helpful in showing us the proper way to use the new equipment. We had an amazing experience and got some great evidence. This is an anniversary we will never forget and we cant wait to come back!
Absolutely wonderful experience. The owner is extremely passionate about the place and is very upfront about what she has done to each space to foster the spirits there. The history behind the building is worth the tour alone, time to explore and experience the place on your own just made it over the top incredible. I will definitely going back, and bringing more people.
Absolutely a fantastic place. Idk what these bad reviews are about her kicking people out and stuff. She was very welcoming and was only loud cuz of her megaphone haha. We got some really good things like a little girl saying hello from behind us and the morgue was pretty active. We left a little early to beat the rush and Sharon the owner walked us out but not before sharing some additional photos from her phone that she had snapped earlier in the week. Fantastic service. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try. You WILL get activity! Thanks!
My boyfriend and I went on a paranormal investigation over Memorial Day weekend with Ghostly Excursions and had the best time. We even had some experiences! Sharon and her staff were very very friendly and professional. I have no idea why there are negative reviews on here. We had such a great time with great people in an amazing place!!! We will most definetly be back. Kudos to Sharon and her staff for keeping Rolling Hills alive!!! Keep up the great work!
I had a great time with my wife here. I heard on the radio they were doing a Valentines day dinner event that included a tour and I thought how perfect for my wife and I! I enjoyed dinner. It wasnt like gourmet or anything but the lasagna was good. We got to meet the owner, who comes off very passionate about preserving the building and the history. The tour guides were great and very knowledgeable. We learned about the history, ghost hunting groups that have visited and guides are straight shooters. They talk about what different ghost hunting groups altered for their show and what experiences the guides had themselves. We even were cut loose so we can explore on our own. It was eerie in most of the rooms and I honestly cant say I had a paranormal experience but I really enjoyed my time.
The owner Sharon is literally awful. Her and the staff are so extremely rude. Not sure why this place is open because it’s evident they have no desire in you being there. There’s no activity nothing spooky about it. The medium is a fraud do not waste your money on that. My cousin is autistic & barley speaks yet was yelled at for “disrupting” by the owners. Horrible experience
The building itself is great, lots of history and paranormal activity. However, management is poor. I paid for a 5 hour ghost experience, however there was no guided portion, due to restrictions (but we still were all squeezed into a room to fill out liability forms). We were then all just set lose to roam on our own. At least give us a printed map of the hot spots in the building? There was also supposed to be free coffee and tea, which was non existant. Im all for adapting to the new normal, but then dont charge me for services youre no longer offering. Owner was also hard to find and came off as rude and un-interested.
Awesome place to visit. Its worth every penny. If youre looking for a serious paranormal adventure, I recommend going as a 10 person group. Lots of spiritual activity this way. The owner, Sharon, is a cool lady with lots of information, insight, and knowledge. Im sure Ill be returning next year.
My friends and I had a fun night exploring this overly staged but really cool old creepy building. There was a very large group on our session which were so obnoxious and kind of ruined it a bit. The staff was nice, they sat and did a reading with us at the end. Definitely a creepy place ! The rooms with nothing in them except peeling paint were the most unsettling, I would almost want to go back during the day to see more of the architecture.
The building is not haunted. We spent 8 hours there and had no experiences. The owner tried to hype things up on the tour acting like she saw stuff. In reality, she came from the entertainment business and knows how to stage areas. Strategically placed items in the hallways in the dark. Go for the history and you wont be disappointed. Go for the ghost appeal and youll leave empty.
Love Rolling Hills Asylum! Sharon (the owner) is very personable and knowledgable. Her love of the asylum is very evident and contagious! Sharon works very hard at ensuring that the CDC guidelines for COVID are enforced. Limited amount of people allowed in, Social distancing, masks worn at all times and hand sanitizing stations placed throughout the building. Thank you for such a fun and SAFE night, Sharon! We will be back!
On September 22, 2017, My daughter and I went on the 4 hour Detained tour. We loved the building and the professionalism of the staff. The owner Sharon, is absolutely wonderful. So knowledgeable and very willing to answer questions. Thank you for such a great time, we plan on coming back soon!
Visited the location last night! It was my second time there! I got to see the real personality of Sharon the owner! We traveled from Syracuse to do the guided tour and on the way there, there was a detour that took us 10 minutes out of the way. Your supposed to arrive 15 minutes before the tour, but because of the detour we were there right on time for the tour to start! When I explained to Sharon about the detour and apologized for being late she laughed and conscendly stated that the detour only takes you 2 minutes out of the way! She was very rude! Paying customers Are paying your salary and you should learn how to treat people! Your a miserable person! Seek some professional help! I will never return and will inform others of your nasty attitude!
AWFUL!!!!! the owner was beyond RUDE! all she did was talk about herself and then would make smart remarks to me and my friends. We had to leave early and she proceeded to tell us that we should “come back for a private party” so we don’t “disrupt others” she also ran up to our window and started knocking on it when we got there saying “we are waiting on you guys, no beverages and food” she also checked my purse and it was a old purse so I had a old beer cap in it from probably a week ago and she then accused me of drinking! Horrible! We also had young kids behind us during the tour basically trying to act like security! I don’t recommend this place. Cheap cheap set up building. She ruined my WHOLE vibe! Sharon we probably paid for your divorce, sorry not SORRY!
Went here with a large group from work.First , its not a small tour there were at least 80 people in line waiting I could tell that they just cram as many people in to rake in the cash. Many of my co-workers were from out if state including Peurto Rico.Turned out, my friend had been drinking and wasnt allowed in. I calmly apologised and said I would immediately take him home as I was the organizer of this outing. The owner felt the need to belittle all of us in front of at least 80 people like we were school children even though the other 10 people in our group did nothing wrong. She did reluctantly let the rest of my group stay for the tour and escorted me to my truck to make sure I took my buddy away from HER property. I was aprehensive about going here because of all the bad reviews and it turned out that they were correct.Granted, my friend did break the rules but this could have been handled in a way more professional manner like the adult she is supposed to be.I really wouldnt waste your money here. The building is quite small pictures on the site make it look alot bigger. My friends that were still able to go said they were shoulder to shoulder with people in every room. When there are 170.reviews and over half the same terrible experience with this super rude and crass owner I should have taken the hint.
I have never dealt with such hateful people. My group went out for pizza before we went there and a few had A beer with dinner. When we got there, they said they smelled beer on us and when 1 person said that they did have a beer, they kicked us out. They were rude from the get go, but Brad screamed like psycho and when we tried to ask what was wrong he continued to scream instead of explain what was wrong. I called and spoke with Sharon who couldnt stay calm herself to talk to me. Brad got on the phone and multiple times I had to tell him not to speak to me so rudely. We already paid over $1000 for this venue and they wont give us any type of refund even though we were only on the property maybe 10 mins. Sharon called me back the next morning screaming that she was mad over the reviews my group gave them. She refused to calm down and speak to me like a human being so I had to hang up the phone. They are just gunning for $$ and dont want to deal with people so they find any reason to kick them off property immediately. Very very very disappointed and will continue to give them bad reviews. Hopefully other people will see these and not make the mistake that we did by ignoring the reviews.
It was fun..love the history on the place very interesting! Even capturee some interesting stuff on camera! Gave 4 stars only cuz I feel there was just too many ppl there. These 2 dudes took over the morgue the entire night! Hard to get alone time..constantly hearing the other ppl talking and laughing..so it was hard to keep my head in it..but overall it was fun..prob wont go back unless she drops the prices or does smaller groups tho
This was my first time there. It was the anniversary tour and even through the freezing cold, I had the most amazing time. There were a bunch of us that braved the 23 degree weather and we ALL came out satisfied. I had read all the reviews and Im sorry to the owner and her staff for the idiots that knocked your business because understandabley if there were people that showed up smelling of alcohol, with insurance and liability I would have thrown them out too. It clearly states in rules and regulations regarding you visiting that there are no refunds and certain things are prohibited. Sharon was wonderful and very friendly and so was security. I will definitely be visiting again.... An amazing experience on a landmark anniversary of the opening and the 1st group of 2016 to investigate!!!! Heather.
We just went this past weekend and it was an amazing experience! Paul did a spirit box session with us and the responses we got were incredible! My friend and I saw a woman in a white dress in shadow hallway. My only gripe is that people can be very inconsiderate and talk loudly or interrupt other peoples session. Definitely looking into a private for next time!
Do not waste your money going to this place. They tell you to show up 15 minutes before your tour to sign papers and that ended up going 20 minutes into the first hour. I drove 2 hours and paid for a 3 hour investigation and the owner talked about herself and the rules for 1:45 of the 3 hours. She barely talked about the history of the place. There were 50 people in this group so you were never alone in the dark. I didnt get any creepy vibes while i was there probably because of all the foot traffic. Very disappointed with the overall experience. Then at the end it was understood that you could leave at any time, but the owner decided to call me and yell at me for leaving without “signing out” and blamed me for “strangers” coming in. Im just wondering why people would be trying to sneak in at 4 am but oh well. I do not recommend going here until this owner steps down
Great adventures. I cant believe the few negative reviews. I visit often and have never walked away disappointed. I am going back in april again. This is not a Halloween type event. This is the real deal. The rules are posted for a reason people. I brought a party of 8 one evening and they loved it. Even the one skeptic 😊 Ignore the whiners and have a great time. I love shadow hallway.
Great place Great Staff went there for the Easter Egg Hunt and came out very disappointed with the egg hunt promotion itself. It was an adults only egg hunt and they had about 10 raffle prizes 4 or 5 of which were 3 dollar stuffed animals. The owner could have put more time and a bit more money into the hunt. The haunted building however is great but will never go back for the egg hunt it was a complete waste of money considering it was my parties main reason of going. You will here a sob story from the owner however she wasnt an awful person not the nicest but bearable.
The owner has serious issues. I will never come back. My friends and I decided to check it out because we were in the area and on Google Maps, it says it was open 24 hours. Based off all the information we got online, we assumed we could go check it out, like you would any other public place. Keep in mind it was only about 7 o’clock. We pull in the parking lot and got out of our cars. Other cars were around, so we assumed somebody was there. We walked up to the entrance door but saw it was locked. Then, the owner Sharon appeared, screaming, threatening to call the police. She claimed we ignored the trespassing sign, There wasn’t one, and then she proceeded to take pictures of our license plates and was beligirent. She said “you must not have graduated high school then” and my friend replied with “I actually just graduated early” to which Sharon replied “you must not have passed reading then.” We apologized numerous times and said that we would leave, but then she tried to block us in and was threatening to call the police. She told us we couldn’t leave and if we did the cops would be looking for us. All this could have been avoided. We weren’t trying to break into the building, we simply walked up to the entrance and that was it. The owner has many issues and I would never recommend that anyone go there unless you want to feel degraded and attacked for simply no reason.
Missing Black Camcorder with Videos of My Children:If any one finds the camcorder, I will send your CashApp account $50 dollars to mail it to me! I live nearly 2 hours away and I wouldnt be able to make it back anytime within the next few days. Please send me a picture of the camcorder before sending it.Again, this has videos of my children. If you need proof theyre my kids in the video, you only need to look at my FB photos. Im a proud dad that posts a lot of photos!Dan and I had a great time btw. Its definitely creepy and itd make a lot of sense that its haunted but we didnt see anything in the three hours we were there. But thats also like saying: this pond must not have any fish because I didnt catch one in three hours. Im sure the ghosts are there--Im just not patient enough to experience [email protected]
Wouldnt even give this place 1 star. My mom happened to pass away unexpectedly 2 days prior to this event and I called to cancel, left a voicemail, no callback. Yes, I know their policy states no refunds, no exceptions, but expected I should be allowed one out of good faith or at least reschedule for next year. Got an email response back from Sharon with a circle around the policy, no refunds, no exceptions. Not even a sorry for your loss or anything. Very ignorant. I even sent proof of her death certificate, that I wasnt someone making up a horrific lie to get out of paying for tickets, but no response. So, my advice to everyone is to buy your tickets on the spot if you can so in case something tragic does happen you dont get slapped in the face with their policy.
We saw orbs and the apps we downloaded were fun. We were disappointed that the staff and owner debunked many things we said we experienced. At the beginning of the tour, we were told there is a man named pooh guy and we may smell him. We experienced this foul smell a couple of times, but at the end she told us there is a farm down the street and it was probably that. She also said that our apps werent legitimate. Basically they thought everything we experienced was nothing. Im not sure why they do this to their guests because you leave deflated after a fun evening. They are very strict, with good reason. The rules about size of flashlight are not clear and need to be updated in the rules section on the webpage. You are only allowed small flashlights. There is a blurb on the page about this but its under things to bring as opposed to rules or things not to bring. I would have enjoyed my tour more if my flashlight wasnt in the car. They do sell them in their gift shop but I wasnt allowed to purchase one before the tour began so it was pointless. They would have made more $$ had I been allowed to do so. We also wish we had had a floor map with information printed on it. The tour they give is very informative but the place is so big its hard to remember all of the information given verbally. At the end of the night we werent sure if we had covered everything or not. Its very cold inside and the only place to pee is a porta potty outside as there is no indoor plumbing. Go prepared. I recommend fingerless gloves so you can utilize your phone. We had a lot of fun together but I dont think I will be returning.
We had drove last night from Canada. It was a 2 hour drive and we were all hyped to do some ghost hunting. When we were finally welcomed by owner Sharon Coyle let me tell you it was not a warm welcome at all. To run an establishment like the Rolling Hills Asylum you should have a little more respect and courtesy for us paying patrons. We have been to many ghost hunt facilities and we have never experienced such abrupt rudeness and disrespect like we had last night. Our tour guide Tina was wonderful when we asked questions or when she shared her experiences with us. The owner on the other hand should take some people manner courses on how to speak and respect those who come to visit her facility. I will never go back for that reason. She is not a very nice person who should be running a business like this.
*ZERO STARS* PRO TIP: READ THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS BEFORE PURCHASING TICKETS FOR THIS SCAM! The owner, Sharon Coyle, refused myself and the 5 other members of our party entrance to The Rolling Hills Asylum Detained 4 Hour Ghost Tour/Hunt because she claimed to have smelled alcohol from a member of our party. She refused to identify who smelled of alcohol and chose to refuse service to all 6 members of our party. She was rude, aggressive and confrontational and provided us with no other justification for her actions besides informing us that she provided, NO REFUNDS! Within 10 minutes of her leaving, as we were still in the Asylum parking lot trying to determine what we were going to do next for the evening since our plans were drastically changed and we werent familiar with the area, a local sheriff and state trooper pull into the parking lot to question us. They requested our IDs with which we politely complied and when we asked them if they have had similar calls of this nature to this establishment, they rolled their eyes and gave us the impression that this is a common occurrence with the owner. They returned our IDs, informed us that they didnt smell any alcohol from anyone in our party nor did anyone appear intoxicated and told us we were free to go, while also recommending a few places in the area to get good food and craft beers! We were staying at a campground about 30 minutes away from the asylum for a Bachelor Party camping weekend and this Asylum Ghost Hunt was the one event we had planned for the weekend. My girlfriend, the grooms best friend and therefore Best Man was in tears due to losing the $40/person ticket price ($240+) and being denied entrance to the asylum when she was extremely excited to attend this event. We feel that the owner, Sharon Dawn Coyle, singled our group out for some reason whether it was our appearance or whatever she didnt agree with and figured we were easy money due to her no refunds policy which should be illegal! We will be disputing her charges through PayPal, reporting her and her business to the Better Business Bureau, leaving her bad reviews on every site we can find on the internet as well as reporting her business to every local/county/state agency for deceptive business practices! BUYER BEWARE!!!
Was pretty disappointed with this experience. The website said only mag flashlights (NOT LED) no bigger then one inch...These are close to impossible to find. Things were very disorganized. By the time we got done with check in and the tour we only has 2 hrs to hunt ourselves. For someone who has never been there getting lost was inevitable since there was no map. The place was extremely crowed as well and being interrupted happened a lot. The tour itself though was pretty cool though as we had a great tour guide. Some of the staff was extremly rude and unprofessional which also made the experience not enjoyable.
I highly do not reccomend, the owner Sharon was VERY rude to EVERYONE especially my group. One singular friend in our group did not buy a ticket prior but we brought him along to see if he could buy a ticket at the door. The group ahead mentioned how they had bought an extra ticket so he pitched in and politely asked if he could buy that ticket off them, and Sharon screamed at him for interrupting her. After she had taken in that we are younger and punk or goth looking, she had pointed fingers saying the friend without a ticket was drunk. She said we could drop him off and come back. After calmly trying to explain he did not drink she told us we should all leave because it is guilty by association. Me and one of the 3 other people in the group patiently waited for her to finish talking to everyone in line to have a calm conversation with her and apologize. while waiting I watched her scream at every other customer in line. Once she had finished and came up to us she started screaming immediately. We asked if we could drop the friend who was drunk and had no ticket off and still go in because one of our friends with us spent $750 to fly from NC to NY to come here on his birthday and enjoy the asylum with us and it would be a waste of his money and time to not do it at all. She continued to fight us and said if we dont leave she will call the cops for trespassing. We said she could breathalize all of us if she did call the cops. Nope. We asked if we could at least have HALF of what we paid back so we could still go out and enjoy our friend from out of states birthday and she said she didnt care. We ended up listening and left because we didnt want any problems, we just wanted to have a good night for our friends birthday. I know this is ridiculously long but, moral of the story, she will steal your money and use ridiculous excuses to want to call the cops on you. ESPECIALLY dont go if you look anything out of the ordinary. She picked us because we look different. There is no doubt in my mind that it was discrimination. And seeing how there are many other negative reviews from punk or goth looking people with the same exact experience, I say it is genuine discrimination.
My wife, 2 of our family members and myself have been there several times. We have made this 7 hour trip part of our yearly vacation. Each of us have had experiences. I have found the owner, and her staff to be very accommodating and friendly. We cant wait for the next trip!
At first was very hesitant to go because of the reviews I read; reading some of the reviews about people saying they were mad for being kicked out for not having tickets; well that is trespassing so you are at fault. There are signs all over the place; they have had so many people trying to break in, cause damage and steal things that they are very protective of their property. I am sure you wouldnt like strangers all on your homes property, taking pictures or trying to go into your home. Be respectful.I went with one other person, there was a large group for people doing a 4 hour ghost hunt and then a smaller group for an 8 hour ghost hunt. The owner Sharon and another helper took us all in to register and couldnt have been more generous and kind to all of us. After doing a brief history of the property, our tour guide took us on a 1/2 hour tour of the hot spots and then afterwards we were free to go and investigate on our own.I went in not really expecting much but I was amazed by the amount of activity we experienced. The ghosts responded to our flashlights almost instantly; we saw a green mist in the shadow hall and what almost looked like an arm forming from the mist and then slowly disappear. In that same hallway just as I was leaving I saw someone in the hallway and then go into a room quickly. I followed into the room only to realize no one was in there and that I was alone on that floor. Very neat experience to witness the shadow people.Disappointed because I wanted to hear the infamous screaming patient on the 3rd floor; hoping to go back soon to maybe spend more time up there to have that experience. Spent 45 minutes in the morgue and had the most activity there, the suit in the morgue that moves on its own really made me uncomfortable while we were in there. No other place in the Asylum made me feel uncomfortable; just the morgue. It is hard to do EVP sessions because you do have other groups walking around. It was worth every penny for myself and my cousin who came with me. Also for any American Horror Story fans we found out that in the kitchen they turned one of the back coolers or storage areas into a padded room to film scenes for the Asylum season. We cant wait to go back, thanks Sharon for keeping this place going!
Please dont come here. If you do, I wouldnt recommend wasting your money on a tour, just go around the building and take pictures instead. The lady who runs this place Im guessing (apparently her name is Sharon from all the reviews I seen), was so rude and disrespectful. As soon as she saw me and the people I was with, she started screaming at us that we couldnt be here unless we had a ticket and we cant go on her property. I swear youd think shed be the one in an asylum with all her obvious issues.
I would give 0 stars if I could. I witnessed this crazy old coot by the name of Sharon screaming at the top of her lungs to this group of people to get out because she assumed they were intoxicated. It was very clear she only made this ridiculous scene in front of multiple of her paying customers due to the fact that she was discriminating these people. This woman is the textbook definition of condisending. She threatened to call the police on the group and didnt even give them a refund. After witnessing this monsterous woman degrade those inocent people, the experience began. It wasnt anything special, no experiences of paranormal phenomenon happened. It was a complete waste of money. Sharon only spoke of stories that were relevant to her own life, and barely spoke about the history of this building. I would highly recommend to never go there.
Waste of time and money. The building itself is cool and I do believe its likely haunted, but the tour we went on was bogus. The guide never stopped talking or hurrying us along long enough to actually see anything, or to allow us to take a minute to appreciate anything. We were treated like children, and herded like cattle! Really disappointing .
Was not worth your money or time. The owner is extremely disrespectful snotty and bossy. Anything they described when we first got there wasnt even correct. They gave the layout and it was completely wrong even the signs that gave the description of thw rooms were wrong wint go again
Great experience, witnessed the suit move many times and flash light turn on and off amoung other things. The owner is great she has put her heart and soul into this place. The spirits are responsive to this and react more with her present in the room. She is someone who truely cares about the facility as well as the spirts who reside there. Well worth the money. Look forward to returning.
Id give it 0 stars honestly. I dont become angry at people easily, I dont hate a lot of people. But the woman living in the house behind this asylum is beyond crazy. At 7:30, my friends and I were looking for something interesting to do and decided to look at google maps. My boyfriend found a place nearby, an asylum my parents have gone to before. It said it was open 24 hours, so we drove out to visit and we thought maybe we could just look around for a bit or get a tour. We parked in the parking lot behind the asylum. After exiting the car we walked up to the building to see if the entrance was open, all of the lights were on in the asylum. Upon finding it locked we just turned to walk back to our cars. There were three cars in the parking lot and we had assumed it was open but, oh well. Suddenly a dog began barking from the little white house behind the asylum. There stood Sharon, beckoning a finger at us and hollering: What are you doing here? Who are you? We all tried to explain that we had saw that it was open 24 hours but, she cut us off squawking DIDNT YOU SEE THE NO TRESSPASSING SIGNS? Shocked, we all kept trying to get in the car, apologizing and saying that we were leaving. Meanwhile, this insane woman took pictures of our license plates, squatting behind our cars. Next, she had the audacity to call out, You kids obviously need to go back to school. Ive just published a book on mental illness and graduated early at 17, my friends are graduating as well with amazing grades. Were young adults with jobs and careers lined up. When I said in disgust of her blunt ignorance, I just graduated ahead of my class. Biting my tongue and trying not to cuss at her disrespectful, rude attitude. She then snarkily remarked: Well, you obviously didnt pass reading. Im sorry, what? Why dont I send you a copy of my book, it might help you understand socialization a bit more. Sharon obviously should not be owning that building. I have never felt more belittled and degraded in my entire life. Dont visit this place, you might be at risk of your own personal safety. Im staying far far away from that place, forever.
I went to Rolling Hills Asylum about a month ago. I have been debating on whether or not to share my experience or to let it go; I have decided that it would be an injustice to history to remain silent about such a sensitive topic. Rolling Hills Asylums history is not unique, nor is it exceptionally remarkable. While the owner paints with large, imaginative strokes, she has little credence to nineteenth-century American history, nor does she have background in asylum or institutional history. Perhaps this was my mistake in going, thinking that the owner would care enough to provide facts instead of fictitious details about residents that are deceased--and may or may not have existed. For instance, she provides a very detailed history of a man named Roy that supposedly had gigantism. I can confirm that Roy did not have gigantism, nor did he come from a wealthy family--if he had--would they really have sent him to a poor farm when their family could provide private institutional care? His brother was also a resident of the poor house--and I found their father at a local boarding house after the death of their mother (I found this information at the county archives and using ancestry census materials). Nevertheless, the site has profound potential to actually teach visitors about the true experience of the poorhouse/infirmary/asylum. Alas, it sits and is displayed as a seasonal haunted house. The jacket in the morgue has a weight in the coat pocket for those willing and daring enough to feel around as the ghostly suit twirls with the slightest disruption in the atmosphere. Meanwhile, the factual history of such a superb learning tool/prop is misused--painted as a dark place--filled with death, ghost stories, fear, ill-intent, etc. In actuality, poorhouses were often second chances--or asylums, meaning safe places for those with no one else: helpless, infirm, affected by economic or social oppression, etc. I am frustrated and disappointed that we do not care enough about the real history of this place and others like it to have the decency to tell the true story, because in truth, the real story of society and those marginalized in the nineteenth century is horrifying enough without the ghosts. There are no ghosts here. I walked around for four hours in the dark, brooding about the tour and facts or stories I received. Do better; be honest, and may I make one suggestion? Contact a historian, or do the research. This aside, the owner was rude from the beginning. She checks bags--great! All fine and dandy--sunshine in the neighborhood--except she got mad at me about MINTS. Yes, mints. wouldnt let me go back to my car to leave them because I was okay with parting--but sent my friend to put my mints in MY car? Logic? None present at this moment. I was baffled. I stood there waiting next to this woman like a small child, or a dog with its tail between its legs by the way she scolded me. Customer service was apparently not a merit in her value system. She barked demands and orders from her paying guests for the entire tour/hunt. So, for forty-five dollars I was lied to--very blatantly I might add if you read my above section--and I was degraded verbally. I see that my rating mirrors others who have also gone--so I see I wasnt given special treatment. Will I return? Absolutely not. Would I recommend? No, I think you could get more from such an experience reading a David Rothman or Michael Katz book, especially if you are going for history. As far as the ghosts, watch a horror flick. Combined with the poor historical representation and negligible customer service, I would say this is a money scam. There is little care in customer service and honesty--what else could that mean when combined? I am sad for those who actually lived or passed through the county poorhouse--such an injustice.
We stopped by the place just to check out the place and the area. We wanted to take a night tour but wanted to see the area during the day. After getting screamed at by the owner, telling us its private property and we cant be there unless we take a 40 dollar tour, I can tell you the scariest thing on this property is the owner ! Dont waste your money !
I visited today with my fiancé in hopes of a historical tour of what ending up being a theatrical leisurely stroll through a delapitated horror house of random garage sale garbage. As many of the other 1 star reviews said, the “owner” Sharon was anything but pleasent. She was rude, disrespectful, ignorant and a downright nasty woman. We wanted to ask a single question before the tour and she refused to answer that. She instead responded with a rude, belligerent remark that pushed me not only want a refund, but also send the town code inspector a little heads up about the death trap she’s running. Perhaps a letter to the better business bureau about the side show wanna-be Casper the friendly ghost sharade. Anywho, the staff (besides her) were welcoming and nice. But the tour solely concentrated on the “paranormal” aspect of it, with little to no, and possibly not even true intel on the history. The over-hyped tour and cheesy staged rooms ruined our experience and left us disappointed. We don’t plan on returning, not that it matters. The roof is going to cave in soon enough. Sharon belongs there, because she’s “crazy” to think I’ll be back.
I have obviously heard of the place before since I do watch Ghost Adventures and things like that so when my dad said that he wanted to go here for our annual Halloween thing with his side of the family I was really excited. I did have a lot of fun and it was different and exciting and we did experience a few different things happen while we were there. Got plenty of pictures and videos and everything it was a lot of fun too be apart of what goes on there and it was exciting to essentially Coke ghost hunting on my own. Even the History part was very interesting and I love to learn about the people that were there and all of that. My only reasoning to giving 4 stars instead of 5 stars is only because there was, I feel there was too many people there at once. It was my large group and then like three or four other random peoples groups so it was majorly crowded in there so all of my EVPs were being compromised because everyone else was talking to. I feel like I could have gotten a lot better stuff if there was a lot less people in the Asylum when I did it so I definitely want to do this again but I think I might go out extra cash to have it be more private so that way I could get better pictures and EVPs.
If youre going for the ghost hunt experience it was great, lots of activity, and the building was amazing. We went for the Easter egg hunt and ghost hunt on the 31st. There was plenty of easter eggs to go around, we found a good amount. The grand prize for silver and gold eggs were definitely worth it. However there was a Chinese auction for the remaining prizes, and the prizes for an adult event were pretty lame. There were about 10-12 baskets, and 4 of them were stuffed animals, 3 others were cheap chocolate bunnies. The facebook page posted there was $600 worth of prizes and all the basket prizes were valued between $20 and $60... but she left the price tag on our chocolate bunny we won and it was only $10. The prizes looked like items from a garage sale or discount bin at K-mart. Also you had to pay for all your refreshments except for coffee. They seriously couldnt be bothered to put out a tray of cookies or some water? I felt there could have been more effort in the whole thing. Did not seem worth the $50 per person it cost. Total waste of money!!! It was way to crowded for the actual ghost hunt (45 people attended) and there was only one Port-a-Poty outside. I dont want to bash the whole experience because we did get some cool pictures and videos of some paranormal experiences. Giving one star because how disappointed we were for the easter egg hunt and the prizes; it was the main reason we went.
As you know that this place was earlier an orphanage and one of the main boy soul is by many people and the name of that boy was Roy and he was interested in reading books and listening classical music and there was also a nurse who was having dangerous and haunted room too. Many people say that when they are in this building at night time they have seen many childrens soul or heard spooky sounds and feel that someone has touched him
Went there last night on a 3 hour tour, had a great time, alot of weird things happened all night long. The only reason Im not giving 5 stars is because there was sooooooo many people in the group, made it impossible to really catch any evps, and really couldnt sit in one place for an extended period of time because people were all over the place. The staff was wonderful, Paul made the whole experience amazing. Aside from the amount of pepole there deffinatly were a couple of really drunk people there that were very obnoxious. (They should have been asked to leave) aside from that it was a great time.
I must say I was very hesitant on visiting after reading the reviews but decided to go anyway. Well Im happy to say I wasnt disappointed. There is definitely a presence here and I found Sharon and her staff to be delightful. I will be returning to investigate some more.
Stopped there Sunday 8/20/2017 & was going to take the tour with a total of 5 people at $20 a person & the woman in charge started screaming to get in line & register...we continue to walk out front & was returning to our cars to leave & was rudely spoken to about how we had disrupted her family & dogs..not once did we hear a dog bark or see anyone that was disrupted by us walking around taking pictures. She screamed & screamed about us trespassing and to get off her property cuz we didnt register (pay her the 100 bucks) NEVER WILL GO BACK..HUGE SCAM
Went out to Mount Morris with some friends and we decided to take a detour out to Rolling Hills Asylum which is adverised as being open 24/7. When we arrived we were greeted by Sharon as trespassers despite the absence of a No trespassing sign. She was rude and insulted all of the members of our group, took pictures of our license plates and theatened to call the police. We apologised for trespassing and said wed leave. Upon attempting to leave the property Sharon blocked my buddies car so he couldnt do so. This facility is owned by a lunatic who should be in a mental institution. If you were thinking of going here, DONT!!! It is a waste of your time and you are better off taking your money else where.
I dont hate the actual experience, but i hate the insensitivity of the owner. the refund policy is nill. i know the it says it plain and simple, but each circumstance is different. i purchased two tickets ans a week and a half prior to the date, my father suffered a heart attack and had to have triple bypass. sharon refused to refund or even comp the tickets for another time. we all know she could have rebooked somebody else and had no loss, but she probably rebooked somebody else and made an additional 80 bucks. i will never return and will make it a mission to spread her inconsiderate, insensitive personality, along with unscrupulous business tactics.
It was Definitly. Very cool. We were given a 30 minuite history of the building and property. And sent off to do our thing Definitly listen to the staff. They know what they are talking about. Next time Im dressing a bit warmer. Cant wait to go again. We did see some shadow people. And evp on the voice recorder.
One of the worst experience of my life. This place is legit a scam. Dont try and go under the influence of anything. They will tell and send you away. The group in front of us was very nice. They had kids and were just a group of adults trying to get out of the city for a night with their friends. One person out if 8 of them was under the influence of alcohol and they all got send away. We then were talking with them inside and making friends until we were asked to leave. The people behind us were also asked to leave after all of us. A total of 12 people were asked to leave in less then 15 min if being inside. The police were called-but we were instructed to leave before getting involved... They scamed about $372 out of all of us.. We traveled from Rochester, as I attend Nazareth College. One of the worst trips of my life...
Got a video of over 10 ORBs floating over me.. Voices..Whispers.. And audio. First time skeptical and anxious. Its drawing me back, couldnt stop thinking about it..i have to go back!! place is the real deal!!! Anyone has anything bad to say about the owner, well there just dbags, she was genuine and honest from the start, no attitude detected. Wish I had the money for a smaller private tour. Only negative is noise contamination in large groups of 50 like I was in.
They wouldnt let me OR my party in because they thought I was drunk. First of all, I dont drink. I also do not partake in any drugs or smoke anything. I am straight edge. So they called the cops on me as I left saying I was driving drunk. They also wouldnt let me bring a water bottle in. They cops never came but later I was talking to a police in Batavia for a problem at my apartment building and he said the owners are constantly calling them for the same thing. So much that they stopped responding. Waste of A LOT of money. Dont bother going here.
I have been reading reviews from people that are very fustarated with their experience at RHA. A LOT people were saying how rude and disrespectful the owner was. IF YOU WANT YOUR VOICE HEARD, PLEASE GO TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU ( BBB) AND LEAVE A CUSTOMER REVIEW. the owner is very quick to respond to reviews on this website. NO ONE DESERVES TO BE TREATED LIKE THAT!!!!!
This place is super lame. Not haunted and certainly not scary. The scariest part of this place is paying 45$ to walk around a place that should be condemned. Peeling lead paint, asbestos, no heat, no plumbing. Someone needs to call DOH and have this place shut down. Don’t waste your money.
Do NOT waste your money unless you like to be belittled and talked down to by the owner and staff. I have never seen a woman so bitter and miserable in life that she has to take it out on the people who pay her bills. The other bad reviews are spot on! Why even be in business if you hate life and people?
Asylum should NEVER be turned into a tourist attractions. Its extremely disrespectful to what these people have gone through and makes a joke out of mental hospitals. Treatment back then was terrible and still isnt great and we need to learn from that not find entertainment in it by making a mockery of these places.
Ty for all the truthful reviews I was going to go there in August with 20 friends and because of all the research we have done we will not ever go there. We have read lots of reviews and 6 out of 10 are bad and they all seam to have same problem. Owner is said to be rude and if her husband or boyfriend ever yelled at us that wouldnt be tolerated so in conclusion there are a lot of places we can go and we r now looking at other venues for mid August
4.5 is what Id like to rate rolling hills asylum but google wont let me.We went on our annual columbus day weekend haunted trip to Rolling Hills Asylum this year.On our four hour journey to RHA, i was pulled over for going 83 in a rental that had and the officer was so nice and let me go....i wasnt used to the car yet as the speedometer was in a weird location ...and then we stopped briefly at Split Rock Quarrys rock crusher... apparently the grounds are said to be haunted due to a TNT explosion which killed at least 50 people in the early 1900s. (no results of supernatural activity.)We continued on for the rest of the trip to RHA. Upon arrival the building looked very small compared to several locations i have been to. But i was not disappointed at all. After parking we all walked up to the ramp where everyone is supposed to meet..after a few minutes Sharon came out and asked us to all go to our cars as there was a smell of smoke in the building and the fire company had to come and check it out before we could enter the facility. It was around 6:30 when we entered the building now this is why i could not give it a solid 5, it was a bit chaotic in the beginning getting in and completing forms and after a brief speech from Sharon involving the history of the facility we were off in two separate groups touring some of the rooms in the building. However i did not like how we all had to gather with a large group in some very small rooms..the other aspects which gave this a 4.5...going back to the chaos part..it had continued throughout the guided tour..groups were in rooms that i guess we were supposed to stop at...which caused confusion along the tour i still chalk these things up to the smoke issue...as having a delayed start of the tour to begin with throws everything off. I also felt like the tour was a bit long especially for a three hour long ghost hunt....short and brief is probably the best way to go with a ghost hunt tour. Our tour guides were great...even the staff in the green room and throughout the halls and rooms were great! ( i was nervous after reading some negative reviews)Now as i have my own equipment that i like to use...i will admit that i never received any validated responses from EMF any timei had used it. We had wandered the halls and various rooms for a bit...used my IR camcorder along with my digital camera, cell phone camera, and digital camcorder and did not catch any visible evidence.FYI i am a skeptic, but would like to have proof to verify belief. If a door creaked or a window slammed id say it was a draft..if my personal items were misplaced id figue that i did it without realizing it. If a glass flew across the room..i cant say that i could explain that. Now back to the asylum. We had decided to go to Georges room. I certainly was not expecting for my EMF reader to peak like crazy. When we walked in it was almost instantly that we decided to set up our gear and see what happens. RHA encourages you to sit on his bed as George does not like that. After scanning the room for activity and finding nothing i set the EMF reader on the bed and sat next to it. We set the IR camera up to watch the EMF spikes...then we set the EVP reader to record. Suddenly a spike and then another and then it went crazy. We were communicating with George! I had asked if he was happy..the beeps on the EMF respoded like a knock (the one that sounds like knock-knock-knocknockknock-knock-knock) it was so awesome. Now i didnt check under the bed to see if there was any instruments that could cause my EMF reader to respond like that but it like to assume there wasnt. also note that the EMF reader was responding to my questions for a little over three minutes and briefly after. Remember im a skeptic...but i didnt feel scared or at peace or anything. ..i guess i was neutral the whole time i was there. But if this was indeed real...i have the recording and witnesses to prove it.On the way home we hit up 13 curves on Cedarvale road in Syracuse. (Negative activity)
And that place was okay it had a tour that was $10 if you took the tour you got in for free no charge for parking the tour was short and definitely not worth the money that I paid for it was very disappointed no Spirits no ghost no anything worthwhile when I go again no. I just went to Rolling Hills Asylum page on GoogleHave students in it no fake IDs and they do indicate that you can come in with a proper school IDand that is a school that is still open and teaching students I hope this answers your question enjoy
The worst thing that Ive ever experienced. Me and my elderly grandmother went there one day to take pictures around the building, and whilst taking front pictures, brad, the co-owner came out and immidiately started swearing and yelling, telling us that we were trespassing, even though we werent on their property. So he proceeded to show us around the building and all of the no trespassing signs while saying disgusting and deriving comments to my grandmother. Once we got to the front, he tried to grab me and told me to come with him and I refused, and he charged at me, swearing. The other owner was pushing around my grandmother and screaming at her. Once we got in the car to leave, brad opened the car door and tried to pull my ELDERLY GRANDMOTHER out of her car, and we started driving away, he held onto the car and had his hands on her, trying to get her out. When the police later came to our house, even the police said that this happens all the time and that those people are crazy, and theyve been in lots of trouble before and have been charged for assault of customers. PLEASE whatever you do. PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE.

2022-05-03Absolutely amazing!!! Strongly recommend it! I did a mid week quarantine visit and it was brilliant! Tons to see! The owner was amazing, she provided great information. She did have rules, but so does all business. Just respect her property and her.

2021-12-06It was a fun experience, and we definitely had experiences and saw others have them too! The spirits there are friendly, I only felt uncomfortable in the head masters old room AKA the organ room. Nurse Emma was very sweet and I think her bad reputation is ridiculous, if you’re polite she will be too!As far as “investigating” it’s impossible to do with a billion people walking around, you can’t tell what’s a natural or supernatural sound. The guides told us not to shine our flashlights in others’ faces, but of course no one was there to monitor that so people were just shining lights everywhere….so it would be nearly impossible to keep your eyes adjusted to the dark.Lastly, the women running the the tours are quite rude. I did not like their energy, and I also heard one of them lie to the other about US. They were talking about US in front of US speaking about us like we were idiots…. My husband and I were sitting in the hallway waiting for shadow people in the notorious shadow hallway, the guide came by and scoffed at us because we left the door open and said “he won’t show himself if the door is open.” So she closed it. We still didn’t see anything, which is fine- but when she spoke to the other woman about us she said “yeah I closed the door and I looked down the hallway and saw him, like you’re welcome people..” LOL why would you make up something like that? And maybe don’t talk about your customers like they’re idiots, especially in front of them??? Also, a girl in the group got scared when she was touched and screamed, the lady working there ran down stairs and was yelling at her about it…like it’s not something she can control? She got scared? Another girl in the group said the lady took away her flashlight and shined it in her eyes trying to make the point that it wasn’t acceptable…wtf??Regardless of the the staff, I had a great time. Wish I could have stayed longer! They definitely did a good job of revamping the space and making it safe to walk around… I also appreciate that they tell the real story of the spirits, instead of selling lies about evil witchcraft etc. to make things sound more interesting or scary. I would recommend a visit to anyone! And make sure you’re polite and respectful the ghosts will show themselves!ALSO: you will use about 45 minutes of your 4 hours filling out paperwork And watching a video…please ladies, send this video via email prior to arrival and if you don’t watch it you can’t come in or something. I felt like a large part of my time was wasted watching a video…

2022-03-12Incredibly fun to visit. Even in the winter time with no heat. Place never disappoints with paranormal activity.

2022-06-20Amazing place to ghost hunt! Had a few experiences and got a few evps!I feel like the negative reviews probably came from people who didn’t read the policies clearly. The owner Sharon genuinely cares about the place and peoples safety. Not to mention people probably trespassing all the time. I guess some people just can’t handle a woman being “too straight forward”.Just follow the rules and your good. Will be back for sure :)Thanks for the experience.

2021-08-09I simply can not express how awesome this night was! From beginning to end! Upon arrival, we all waited near the entrance. We were greeted by the sound of Good evening everyone, welcome and thank you for coming... over a megaphone, by a voice that seemed just as excited as we were! The voice was from Sharon, the owner. Now I had read A LOT of bad reviews pertaining specifically to her but I never let the words of others say my decision and Im so very glad I dont! She was the perfect host! From her first greeting with us, to our final goodbyes she was polite, extremely knowledgeable, interactive, smiling, appreciative, and just an all around perfect host. I thank you Sharon for allowing us the amazing experience we gained! Thank you for your knowledge of rolling hills. Thank you for sharing the history with us and allowing us to explore ourselves! I can imagine it takes a lot to keep a massive place like that open and functional and my family and I are more than glad that you maintain it for all of us to experience! Seems to me if you follow the rules, which are clear online, on paperwork, and stated upon arrival then you will have no bad experiences! I cant remember the couples name that was working alongside Sharon 8/7-8/8 but you are both appreciated as well! Very kind and willing to help! Thank you all RHA staff and Owner. We will definitely be back!

2021-11-28We had an awesome visit yesterday. I read the negative reviews, but we had nothing short of a pleasant experience. Sharon was fantastic. She greeted us, told us a lot about the place and was knowledgable and passionate about the history and the paranormal. If you read the rules, come prepared and are respectful of the owner and the property you will have no issues. I’m guessing many of the negative reviewers didn’t follow the rules, came with an attitude, got removed from the property or scolded by the owner for their behavior. Bottom line is be a good guest! We interacted with multiple spirits and will definitely be back in the spring with more equipment!

2022-06-05Wow. I quite seriously wanted to experience this place, but with all the negative reviews on just the owner, and the fact that so many people gave a thumbs up to agree with them, I believe I will save my money. The fact that you dont know which side of the owner will be there that day I dont want to take the gamble. I cant believe she can deny you a refund for a service you did not receive is highly suspicious. To those of you who have been denied you can go to your credit card company and put in a dispute. My own bank (m&t) has always been wonderful and incredibly helpful. Hth

2022-06-26Pretty disappointing that the rules are SO strict. Learned that a parent needs to be with kids ages (14-17)… I’m almost 30 and wanted to bring my 17 year old siblings here. But learned that’s not allowed. NO adults OR guardians. PARENTS ONLY. This was really a turn off to me, especially since our parents are deceased. This is the only haunted place I’ve ever seen with such a rule. I wasn’t sure if I was correct while reading on the website so I decided to call Rolling Hills to ask before purchasing tickets. The woman I spoke to was BEYOND RUDE to me from the moment I started talking. She would not even let me speak, or ask a question. Constantly cutting me off every time I got a word out. To the point I had to hang up. It’s very unfortunate as we would of loved to have visited. But because of the strict rules apparently it’s not allowed. With the way I was treated over the phone, I am happy to take my business elsewhere anyways.
