I loved the ambiance of the Rooftop. It’s 2 things I would want for Rooftop Red. I couldn’t find the space because the signs were not noticeable maybe decorating or placing a decorative sign so people know where it is. I was nervous walking and it seemed like I was the only one walking in the area. 2nd is the food choice and price range. We can’t bring our own food but the only choice is bites or pizza from outside. Maybe some sandwiches choices. Other than that. ❤️❤️
Just make sure you follow the instructions in the booking confirmation email on how to get there (or the advice in previous reviews here). Dont do what we did and spend thirty minutes figuring out how to get inside an industrial complex.. Once youre in, its a pretty magical spot by New York standards. It was empty when we went (we probably got lucky), and the skyscraper vista that is contrasted with the vines in the foreground is pretty unique. The wine isnt too badly priced by NY standards (around $9 for the cheapest glass), and it is excellent. Wonderful date night place; it still felt undiscovered, though that could be because we went on a rainy evening. No walk-ins, make sure you book.
We didn’t really know what to expect and that was probably for the best. We went around noon on a Sunday and it wasn’t crowded until about 2 hours later. If you’re looking to beat crowds, that’s the time to go. The indoor stairwell is hidden and I’m not sure they have an elevator, so prepare to walk.We didn’t try the food, but the wine and drink list was great. Tried about 6 wines and none disappointed. It’s a great place to go during an afternoon when you don’t know what else to do. Awesome place to hang out with a group of friends since there’s seating areas and corn hole.I would eat before or after, the menu was lacking.
The place is in the middle of nowhere in the navy yard. There is parking inside the complex. If you have a car please bring it inside otherwise you would have to walk all the way in. The building doesn’t have a elevator so you have to take the stairs. Coming to the views. The views are good towards Brooklyn side but the Manhattan side is obscured by the tall chimneys of the factory there. The wines that they have are nice and their own. There is no food menu I believe and we had to order our own. It’s worth the visit, but don’t make it a go to place every time, especially due to the location. Nearest subway is an avg 15 min walk maybe even more. Make sure to come here with a large group so that you can either do a car pool or a cab.
Rooftop Reds hosted our pre wedding drinks. The team completely exceeded our expectations - an amazing area reserved, great wine (obviously!) and pizza, plus super easy to deal with and reserve (we had a space for 60 people). Yes the place is tricky to find. But as soon as you arrive at the roof, grab a glass of rosé, its one of the best places in the City.
We met Devon and Chris on the way out on Sunday, which was overcast, windy, and a little chilly. Devon seemed pretty chill and laid back while I had a small moment with Chris over garbage plates. All in all, its a fun spot with a good number of picnic type tables, outdoor couches, and hammocks. The wines and beer seem like a good selection, so its a great Friday night spot to wind up the weekend or a Sunday spot to wind down the weekend. The staff is very approachable, so dont be shy!
Amazing urban space that will only grow in popularity. Another year or so until their own grapes are harvested. The view is spectacular. An industrial entrance within the Brooklyn Navy Yards. Game and movie nights throughout the week. Winter they will close and check their hours prior to visiting.
Cool location for social hang out within the Brooklyn Navy Yard campus. Rooftop location offers views Downtown Brooklyn to the southwest and parts of the Navy Yard in the opposite direction. The space itself is decked out with hammocks, bean bag toss, and other games, along with plenty of table and seating arrangements.
Four of us really enjoyed the experience. Its not that difficult to find when following the instructions that come with he tickets.Service is good and staff are friendly. Wine is nice, pizzas are very good. The setting is lovely with great views of Brooklyn and Manhattan.Only negative are the prices, be prepared to dig deep into your wallet. Oh and its a little strange to be given chilli flavour chips on arrival, not the best palate cleanser before a wine tasting. But as a one off experience or occasional treat, its definitely worth a trip to Rooftop Reds.
Step 1: RSVP to an event here - to enter the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the security booth will double check your name is listedStep 2: Walk past the stop sign, steer slightly right to the brick building at the end of the road. Go in the unmarked doors and walk up 4 flights of stairs.Step 3: Go out the door at the top of the 4th flight of stairs and walk on the outdoor staircase. Dont wear heels and dont look down if youre scared of heights! The metal staircase is slatted and you can see right through to the ground.Step 4: Order a drink, swing on the bench swings, play a game of corn hole and take a wine induced nap on the hammocks.Would love to come back once the vines are in bloom - the roof looks a bit drab for the time being as theyre just opening up for the season, but can see this place shaping up in the upcoming months.
Rooftop Reds is quite the find in Brooklyn right now. Amazing views of Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn with a very relaxed atmosphere. They have fun movie nights in the summer and the staff is always pleasant. If you want to go, find their website and make a reservation - its never booked, you just need a ticket to get in the gate at the Navy Yard. Not to mention the wine selection pleases everyone.
Neat location. I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. You’re given water and chips when you sit down, they do collaborations with restaurants so the food menu is constantly changing, and the wines were all very nice.Beyond just the quality of the food/drinks, the place has a nice ambience. It’s more than a little impressive that the owner has managed to grow grape vines on a roof in NYC. You get to sit in a vineyard in the concrete jungle.Finding the location is a little tough. It’s in the back of the Navy Yard with effectively no signage to tell you where to go. You go up four flight of stairs and you’re there. If you want to visit a vineyard without the drive upstate, you can’t go wrong with Rooftop Reds. Highly recommend.
A group of friends and I went on a Friday night. As soon as we walked in we noticed that they were hosting a movie night. We paid a cover charge in advance to reserve a table. We were given chips and boxed water. The wine was great! It has beautiful views and even games like corn hole. I would definitely be back!
Such a brilliant idea and experience. Went on a cloudy Sunday evening and suddenly felt like I was in heaven. Laid on a hammock among the vines, drinking NY rosé just felt so special. Delicious selection and great little areas to spend time with your friends. Cant wait to try their own yield when it comes. Ill be back.
Could be easier to find and access. U receive a code that has to be scanned at the guard house. Then u have to find the building, and walk up 5 flights of stairs. You kn not to take the elevator bc, youve read the threatening message included with the ticket that states you will be kicked out w/o refund if u do attempt to use the elevator (in case u forget, theres a sign on the elevator to remind u). Once u actually make it up to the roof top, its quite a nice, welcoming atmosphere. We were greeted and promptly seated. They did their best to keep guests in shaded areas, however it can become very hot up there. Wines were delicious, as was the pizza. Well worth the $$$ once u get past all of the minor inconveniences. $15 admission gets u a box of water and a bag of chips. Wines can be purchased from $10 - $22 dollars per glass if I remember correctly.
First time at a rooftop winery and it was a very good time. The only vineyards Ive been to were out in the west coast but this idea is very innovative and fun. The only difficult thing is that the building isnt very easy to find. But once you do find it, tlhe views are spectacular. To one side, you can see the Brooklyn skyline and on the opposite side, you can see Manhattan. The wines that they make is really good. I tried their rosé and their chilled Red blend. Delicious on both ends. You can order draft wine, bottled wine, or wine flights if youre a little indecisive. The staff is so friendly and down to eatch. the person that took care of us was Derek and he knew so much about wine. When a person is as passionate as Derek is about their product, it enhances the experience that much more. Would love to visit again for the views, the wine, and the staff.
Yes, the wines here are a little pricey. Yes, you may not be getting as much wine as other wineries. I will say however, that the wine here was phenomenal. Everyone in my group was impressed. My bf who normally doesnt care for gewurztraminer loved it so much that he bought a bottle. My friend was obsessed with the rose. Another friend loved the riesling. Great views too, and really cool staff.
It was a little hard to find down in the area so definitely ask the gate guard or someone walking around if you’re unsure of where to go. Once we found it and got up to the roof I was taken back by the scenery and atmosphere. Nice spot to hold a conversation and just chill out and hang with a small group of friends or even a date night. They don’t have a huge selection of wine and beer to choose from but that’s ok. If you’re looking for hard liquor unfortunately this won’t be the place for you. But, we did however have a bottle of the sparkling Rosè which was pretty tasty. The Zapps Voodoo chips and boxed water were a great icing on the top. My wife and I will definitely be back when we’re in BK again.
A little hard to find, you are supposed to make reservations in order to get through the gate of the navy yard. You must climb a few flights of stairs since there was no available elevator that I was aware of. The staff were very nice, they had hammocks and bean bag toss. A great place to hang for a while among the potted grape vines.
Unfortunately have had a really bad experience trying to obtain a refund for 2 tickets I purchased a few weeks ago. I bought 2 tickets for the 6-9 pm session and wanted to switch it to the 2-5 pm session. I spoke with Devon and he assured me if I bought a ticket for the 2-5 session he would refund me for the 6-9 ones. I have sent countless texts, emails, and calls and have never received a response. It has been 3 weeks. I don’t mind waiting for a refund but a response or acknowledgement would have been nice. I wouldn’t have purchased more tickets if I knew I wouldn’t be refunded. I feel scammed.
We went for their July 4th event. Space is fine. Pretty relaxing. One group even brought a kiddie pool. They ran out of all the catered food by 7 P.M. They advertised as having views of the fireworks. I dont consider a partially obstructed view between two buildings of one of the four barges to count as having views of the fireworks.
My Daughter surprised me for my bday..Who knew, A vineyard in Brooklyn !Personable staff.. ample seating throughout the rooftop.. All sorts of wine.. Prices comparable .There are sandwiches, cheese and crackers, Pizza, movie night as wellwe had a Yoga class ,wine, and gorgeous sunset!.
This is the best kept secret in Brooklyn right now!! Youll feel like youre absolutely not going the right way as you walk through the Navy Yard, but keep going and youll eventually find yourself on one of the coolest rooftops with wine, corn hole, hammocks, and even outdoor movies some times. Best part is that its never crowded, and it offers a unique view of the Brooklyn skyline. You wont find a cooler place to chill this summer.
Had booked for a taco and wine night here which was cancelled at last minute due to the venue being closed due to building works. We hadnt seen the email which was sent only a few hours before it started. No sign on the door so having got to the rooftop were told by a guy working there it was cancelled as works had overrun (clearly this would have been obvious the day before based on the state of the area). He was very helpful and directed us to somewhere good over in Dumbo.Mega disappointed as wed booked a slot weeks ago and were leaving town the next day.Three stars as the view was good for the moments we were on the rood and the guy there was helpful.
Go with low expectations and you’ll be ok.Think airplane food. And if you don’t like Brie you’re out of luck.Maybe it’s better if you go to an actual event, but my experience was that it was not worth the long deserted walk from the subway, the encounter with the nasty guard at the gate who refused to tell me where the actual entrance was, the signage-free directions, ending up in an abandoned building, finally finding (and never really knowing if I was in the right place) the entrance, ending up on an outdoor terrifying stairwell (don’t look down)....There is an option of an indoor stairwell but there’s no way of knowing this....The wine is nice and decently priced.
Total waste of hard-earned money. Will not support this business or recommend anyone I know to go here. A family crisis prevented us from attending an event and host did not honor request for refund when it clearly states on ticket that refunds are available. There are may other rooftop venues in the 5 boroughs, this place is permanently removed from my list.Cheers...
If you love quality wine and a city, Rooftop Reds is for you! DC native, Devin, started Rooftop Reds after learning the art of wine in upstate New York and started the worlds first ever urban, rooftop winery. Amazing!Rooftop Reds is located in a historic brick building in the Brooklyn Navy Yards and has every charm a Brooklyn rooftop has to offer from amazing views of the city to Instagram worthy rooftop picnic tables. The rooftop actually has vines growing as you sit at one of the picnic tables or one of the four large hammocks. Enjoy a tasting or stop by the rooftop bar for other options. My friends and I did the tasting of their original wines and all were quality. Most were on the slightly sweeter side, but not in a way that non-sweet loving winos wouldnt love it.Definitely make this a must do in Brooklyn!
Beautiful rooftop, hidden in the middle of the navy yard in brooklyn. great for a warm day -- downside: way overpriced in my opinion ($100 for one carafe of wine, cheese and crackers)EDIT: ugh i hate to have to respond to this, but since the owner responded to my review I feel I should clarify certain things.- my bill was $83.83, if you add tip, it amounts to $100. so, yes, it was $100 indeed.- the brie cheese plate was a pre-pacagked brie cheese on a paper plate with a tiny serving of crackers.as i mentioned, though, the rooftop is beautiful, especially for on a nice day. but expen$$$ive
1. $15/person cover.2. Very slow service.3. A majority of the tables were in the sun.4. So hard to find. There is no signage outside to indicate where to walk.…Considering how difficult it was to access I don’t understand why there is a cover charge. The view isn’t special either.
It was really difficult to find the bldg but once we did, how cozy cute and enjoyable.you are given complimentary chips and box water for each guest. They have a variety of wines to choose from and we ordered the best Pizza 🍕 great backdrop of NYC for photos 🌉 📸🤳 great for dates, girls outting, fellas outing or solo.
Great vineyardYou have to reserve online in advance, so that you can drink really good wine (have drunk the Gewürztraminer and it was really good) and eat pizza upstairs. For each reservation you get a 0.5l pack of Tetrapack water and chips. The pizza then has to be ordered from a pizzeria and is then brought to the respective table by a pizza delivery boy. The atmosphere is really super pleasant and you also have some opportunities to socialize with others. The view of the Manhattan skyline is another reason to go there. All in all its a really good but also unusual vineyard, definitely worth a visit but a bit pricey. Remember that the wine bar is outdoors and dress accordingly as it can be quite chilly.
Getting there is very difficult, if you find it you have to climb 4 flights of stairs. The view is not good and if there is an event the corners are closed to the general public. The price IS quite high, considering that you also pay the entrance. The cheese board comes from Whole Foods to the table, original packaging and all. There are no glasses, only glasses and to go to the bathroom you have to go down one floor. THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CASH.
We were very enthusiastic but since the place was difficult to find, you have to go up 5 floors by stairs, the wine is expensive and comes in glasses, we ordered a plate of cheeses that they went to buy at the supermarket and we had to cut ourselves, there was an event that did not allow to enjoy the entire terrace and the views and above all they did not accept cash.

2022-04-17We really enjoyed our time here, and we stayed for almost 4 hours! The rooftop was well decorated and has amazing views if the weather is nice. Our only wishes were that it was easier to locate and a little cheaper. We tried a few wine flights (which were all fun), but think that ordering bottles would have been slightly more economical.

2022-07-10Pros: beautiful view and a cool atmosphereCons: 1- IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND. We walked around for 30 mins + and called twice for directions. Even then we definitely didn’t enter through the proper entrance. We used Google maps, Apple Maps, person to person directions from the security guard and were absolutely lost.2- the service is SLOW. We waited for our FIRST drink order for 15+ minutes… for three drinks. We then waited 35+ minutes for our second round. Again, three drinks straight off the menu. It really wasn’t busy, maybe half the tables had people and they mostly just serve drinks so I don’t know what the issue was.3- the cost isn’t worth what you get. $18 just to get a reservation, then the bill on top of it. The glasses were small servings in cheap glassware for $11-13 with $50-70 for a bottle (generally). A tasting was $20, again small servings and not worth it.Overall, glad we came once just for the view but other than the view it wasn’t great. I don’t plan on returning, nor does anyone in my group.

2022-01-06BOOK YOUR TICKETS NOW! Rooftop Reds is a vineyard in Brooklyn Navy Yard that sells wines by the glass, bottles & FLIGHTS! I found this after looking for a fun activity on eventbrite & purchased tickets with two of my close girlfriends. No outside food or drinks are allowed BUT you are given a bottle of water & bags of chips with your ticket. You can also order pizza from a partner restaurant that is delivered right to your table. We had an amazing view of Fort Greene & enjoyed watching the sunset. Would highly recommend for a mid sized group or fun date activity! Don’t think twice, BOOK NOW!

2022-07-04I really wanted to love this place, but it was underwhelming. It was cumbersome trying to locate the spot. Be prepared to climb 4 flights of stairs to get to the roof (and again no signage on the steps). It was a hot NYC day, and it would have been great to have some fans. No music. Our waitress was knowledgeable so thats a plus. Overall, it didnt feel like a wine tasting experience. I more than likely wouldnt visit again. Youre better off going to a winery in the Hudson Valley region where its less expensive and more of a wine tasting experience. The Jamaican food catering was honestly the best part.

2021-06-06Had a fun time in the sun, drinking wine with friends! It was definitely not a cheap outing (admissions fee + not cheap wine), but was a good time. All the staff was super friendly and helpful. We ordered pizza from Il Porto and snacked on our complimentary chips and boxed water. Would go back if I were planning another special activity with friends.

2022-03-18The atmosphere was awesome. We went around sunset, which Id strongly recommend in the summertime. The wine was decent. We waited a while for our pizza, but I know that it wasnt provided/made by the company. In the meantime, they did give us some really awesome chips, which was nice!

2021-08-31One of the first urban wineries on a rooftop on a vibrant neighborhood is a must. Is inspiring to see the vines on a roof, came with a couple of friends and had a great time on a weekend a couple of years ago then I came back for a private wine event and had a great time watching the sunset and sipping wine.

2021-08-16Great night out! It was so hot that we were given a popsicle 😂 It gets pretty busy so service can be a bit slow, but the entire staff were incredibly friendly. Really enjoyed the Alsatian flight. My only complain was that its tricky to find even with the directions on the website. There should me more signs leading to it.

2022-07-03Well…. Very nice spot but very poor service and food. We were served cheese and others not even unwrapped . Everything in plastic containers, directly from the supermarket. Really… 15 $ cover charge per guests. But yeah! They give you a pack of chips and half a litre of water, with no glass. Been there, will not go back
