This is a local art association, which supports community efforts to enhance cultural development on the island. They collaborate with schools for educational events and promote public involvement through the arts.Musical performances, theatre, dance, book signings and poetry readings by talented professionals and various community gatherings are hosted on a continual basis by Gallery RIVAA.They also install exhibitions in the historic Octagon lobby.

I visited during the 2018 Cherry Blossom event on Roosevelt Island. During this, they had a few mini exhibits, from fishing for cranes, painting for children and the most popular one - the Yukata try on! You could try on beautiful Yukatas and take pictures wearing them!If youre wondering about the difference been kimonos and Yukatas, Yukatas are made of cotton, thinner and either worn during summer or in bath houses. Kimonos are usually silk (but can be other materials) and look fancy. The obi (sash) that ties them is also different. Yukatas have a simple obi.

Nice local gallery with independent shows. Docent/manager was informative and friendly. Feels less corporate than most galleries. Certainly visit if you happen to be on the smaller island.
