I have a saying, Always get the nachos. Let me tell you, today, that decision might have been the best Ive ever made. The nachos... Words are inadequate.Let us start this journey of culinary masterpieces with the chip. Like all good architecture, the most important component is the foundation. If I could eat no other chip for the rest of my life I would be happy to have this chip. Crisp. Fresh. Sturdy. Like an old friend you havent seen in years these chips were a breath of fresh air.Next the all important ratio. Nachos live or die on their chip to toppings ratio. Too much and you end up with a soggy mess that would send Paul Hollywood into retirement. Too little and, well, is that even nachos? Is that not just chips and dip? But Rosas Nachos? Da Vinci would have given his left arm for this ratio. Every chip carried the exact right amount. Like little boats of delicious ecstasy. But what about the cheese Adam? Poured fresh at the table. Like a king. What more needs to be said.Always get the nachos
Got seated quickly! Clean, the food is amazing, plenty of space outside, inside, or on the 2nd floor. Love this place and the starter red chile chicken nachos were absolutely delicious!!! I liked them better than the flautas. So much, I didnt even get to take a picture of the nachos because they were gone so quickly. Highly recommend 👌
Graduation dinner and we picked this for reputation, location and cuisine. We haven’t been here in 15-plus years. Were excited to return, especially after (most of) the pandemic. Huge win for a picky group of teenagers and foodies - loved the food and ambiance. Really happy we came. Of course, prices are in keeping with a fancy place. The menu, even the bill payment can be contactless.
Came here for Fathers day and usually come often. First time at the Lincoln center location but it did not disappoint.Food was just as good as the union Square location. Waiter was very attentive and even made sure to mention the current specials. Love when they make the guacamole in front of you! My family loved it!!It was the first time for some of my other family. Members and they had a great time!! One note, its not as a lovely as the union Square location but still enjoyed myself :)
I am not a Karen, and I have never gone out of my way to post a bad review for a restaurant but Jesus, this mexiwhite food would make my abuelita cry and shes very nice and sweet. Ive also come here several times as I enjoy going to the MET, and I have contained myself of saying something in the past despite the less than average experiences, but this time it ruined my evening with the lack of quality and poor service. Those 3 tacos had more tortilla than meat (please look at the picture below for reference). Before coming here I thought it was humanly impossible to ruin birria tacos, and for 18 dollars I was rubbing my little hands like a hungry raccoon in front of a garbage can, expecting some amazing stuff, I did get some garbabe though. The price tag was 18 dollars for 3 baby tacos with barely any meat(or flavor), no cheese, no onions and cilantro only on top of only one of them? I didnt even get the gentrified tacos stainless steel tray. Lastly to put the cherry on top, it took 1 hour to get them, imagine getting these after an hour wait, me and my girlfriend ended up at another restaurant since we didnt want to wait another hour for another plate.Do a favor to yourself, pick any random mexican foodtruck literally any, and youll have a better culinary experience and pay 1/4 of the price.Splenda packet for size comparison.
Dined here a couple days ago for a family dinner. Had made a reservation prior, for party of 7 people. We were a bit early they , but they had our table ready. Temperature of each individual was taken and noted. The hosts were really polite and professional. We were sat by this beeming blue light, that was the only part I wished was better. We started with Guacamole, one mild and one medium along with salsa. We were mostly there for the drinks. Drinks and Cocktails were really good. Our waiter (David ) was very helpful and welcoming. He suggested his favorites cocktails. We ordered bunch of entrees to share. Overall place was good and highly recommended.Ambiance- 10/10Service- 10/0WiFi- Not SureParking - Street
The drinks are delicious, but the food is okay. If you’re looking for a spot near the Met Opera this can be a good place to go, but the food wasn’t anything special and the flavors felt a little flat given the price. The one thing that was nice was that they were able to split the check according to what the 6 of us each ordered.
Went here on a recommendation of a friend, and it did not disappoint. Came on a busy Saturday night, and the service was terrific. Even offered to store my stroller downstairs while we ate upstairs. The food was incredible. The verse chicken enchiladas are going to be hard to beat. Even my son’s quesadilla was divine. And that’s saying something.
Great brunch spot, the corporate staff bungled a pre-paid post wedding brunch, which was terrible for the group and for the staff that were given no notice that 40 people were to show up. I am giving four stars because even though management really screwed up - they confirmed with us the day before via email, but didnt let the staff know. The staff worked triple time to set up our space, get us drinks and make us comfortable while we waited an hour past our reservation time to start. Once we were in the room, the food and service were amazing. So go there, eat and know the staff, food and service will be great. I would however NOT plan a large (expensive) prepaid event there. It wasnt just dropping the ball, it was incompetence and carelessness of the management and some of the guests actually missed out because they couldnt delay their post wedding travel plans by an hour and so couldnt join us, which was a bummer. That being said, the staff were terrific. Also the margaritas were amazing and there were plenty of vegetarian options.
Exceptional place. Really beautiful. Food plates look amazing, beautiful and tastes great. Restaurant itself is beautiful, waterfall inside, everything is clean. All staff is very polite and friendly and helpful. Guacamole is made right in front of you.Recomed it to everyone, family friendly restaurant.Street parking - need to look for it. Garage parking nearby.
Came on a Wednesday evening for a dinner before a show at Lincoln Center. I got a seat on the second floor. Some of the seats for four people were by the windows. We started off with some chips and salsa. Then I ordered the frozen pomegranate margarita , shrimp ceviche and tacos with octopus l.The frozen margarita was super thick and came in a generous size. I had to request a straw to make sure the drink didnt plop in a pile on my face while sipping. The shrimp ceviche definitely tasted less acidic than some other ceviches Ive had before. The avocado was very fresh and the shrimp wasnt over cooked. The octopus tacos came with bits of pork belly which added depth to every bite. The octopus pieces were generous and very tender.Would recommend coming to try the tacos and frozen margarita but the shrimp ceviche could be a hit or miss depending on how you like your ceviche sauced.
Used to be great. The service and quality have gone downhill significantly during and after the height of the pandemic. They continue to be busy, and tourists don’t really know the difference, so no one cares. But with so many excellent options near Lincoln Center, I’m afraid real New Yorkers will stop frequenting this establishment if they haven’t already. Very sad.
This location is especially good. Recently went on an evening when the restaurant was having trouble with the frozen margarita machine was on the fritz, among other things. Couldnt speak more highly of the management and our waitress, joyanaul?, who all chipped in doing more than their station to ensure everyone had an excellent experience.
Have always enjoyed this restaurant. Very good food and a very high price. That is a decision that can be worth it or not. Last visit I was rushed by the server, lights were flashed on and off obnoxiously even with a number of tables eating. I was set down facing a wall with a piece of plaster missing as well as the picture torn down. I dont appreciate paying top dollar for an experience I could have had in a hole in the wall. I must say the food all around was still very good. The refried beans were not the usual unless they changed their recipe. They were very green with cilantro which I never had so much of in beans. Just disappointed in the treatment and physical look.
Ugh! Dreadful experience here this weekend. Hostile hostess and manager determined to bully you to eat inside. Made a reservation a week in advance, Open Table indicated outdoor tables are first come first serve. Empty patio on arrival but they would not seat us saying all of the tables were reserved. When they eventually did seat us, the manager Liliana sat a baby carriage right beside us despite all tables open.No Covid protocols or distancing at check in. Outdoors is noisy and dirty. Lifes too short!
This place is pretty bougie but its worth it. They make guac by hand in a bowl with a pestle. Frozen margaritas are delicious and there is free salsa with different spice levels. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. You get what you pay for so dont expect to eat for less than $20/ person at a minimum, and more if you drink alcohol.
Growing up in NY, I’ve been wanting to go here since I was in high school. Were the food quality not as good this review would unfortunately be 1 star.Upon first approaching the host table we were ignored and then brushed off, before being offered a table that we’d have had to leave within a certain amount of time. We took one that didn’t come with any pretense, in a different section. Our food:Guacamole/chips, Carnitas, Cheeseburger, Mango Margarita, Blood Orange Margarita, Cucumber Margarita, Pomegranate Margarita.I wouldn’t complain about portions, except that my partner and I saw other two-tops receive twice the amount of guacamole as we did. My Carnitas was tasty, but a little bland and the tortillas seemed microwaved. They asked my partner her preference for the cook time of her burger and she requested well. They brought a rare burger. Say what you want about well-done beef, but to be asked and receive the opposite is ridiculous. Thankfully, after sending it back we received the proper order. The drinks were mostly fine, except for being too expensive for what you get; however, the “Blood Orange” Margarita was clearly processed orange juice; it might as well have been Minute Maid, with a splash of tequila.I’d like to return someday, to hopefully have a better experience, but for now I prefer a taco truck and a case of Modello.
I ordered huevos rancheros for brunch with juice. The waiter came by twice to tell me they were out of mango and theyd use passion fruit (no problem). The eggs arrived and were barely warm, the potatoes were cold. I was willing to eat warm eggs as I was hungry so we agree that hed bring hot potatoes. They finally came (they were hot) but I had finished eating the eggs, it took too long. I was not willing to pay for them so he sent the manager over. Shes was not friendly and we insisted on removing the eggs from the bill. No apology but she agreed. It could have been a learning moment to improve the quality of food and service but it wasnt.
Rosa Mexicano has consistently near-flawless food. The atmosphere is classy and modern. Their drinks are pretty decent and a few at their bottomless brunch may even have you sufficiently tipsy. That being said, they often cut corners on service. For example, we recently had a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The chips that were offered with the guac was stale, but we started on them anyway. When we later pointed this out to our wait staff, he was apologetic and promptly removed the container with the chips. A few minutes later he replaced it with what was obviously recently refried chips - oilier, darker, and extra warm. Needles to say this was frustrating and disappointing. The Rosa Mexicano brand, and the Lincoln Square location specifically, has boundless potential if only they werent so keen on cutting corners in delivering service to their most valuable asset, their customers.
The food, two orders of tacos, one shrimp and one carnitas, was decent if overpriced. We had a reservation for 6:30 on a weekday and were seated on time. However, we were able to take our first bite at 7:20! The outfit appeared to be quite understaffed. Hopefully, this is a temporary, soon-to-be-fixed, situation.
This used to be my favorite restaurant. Met up for lunch today after working remotely for the past year, so needless to say that I was very excited. Decided to sit at the bar instead of waiting for a table. Ordered the guac and it took close to 45 minutes to come out. They bought out the chips with salsa first and by the time guac arrived we had no chips left, because that is how long it took! So guacamole arrived and it is awful… it was like the seasonings all agreed to go on a union strike. Totally bland and tasteless. The bartender was kind enough to remove it from my check. We ordered the salmon and it was bland and tasteless as well. Not sure what is going on with the new menu, but the chef has some explaining to do. They need to revisit their choices because they have made some bad ones. I honestly don’t think I will ever return!
While the food was delicious, we had hoped to enjoy a complete dining adventure. This restaurant chain is known for their tableside preparation of guacamole. For some reason, the wait staff placed our all ready prepared guacamole on our table and walked away. We only became aware of the differential treatment as guacamole was prepared (tableside) at every table around us. We asked the wait staff and a manager why we had been left out. No one offered any explanation. So disappointed...............
The receptionist was prejudiced and said that there were no spaces even though I was able to reserve space for two on the website and the business had many free tables. We were coming from Central Park and she didnt even offer to wait. How is it possible that a Mexican place in NY.USA can be prejudice against a Latino? I enjoyed the place before, now I only have dishonorable comments to name. Hopefully the problem just on this branch.
Dios mío, this place has fallen from what it was before. Not worth it coming over here anymore. Number one, don’t waste your time; second, don’t waste your money. Who can up with the terrible idea of changing the menu. The nachos here were phenomenal; now, they are a total zero. The food seems to be frozen and microwaved. The cutting corner is something noticeable. Get back to your roots, Rosa. You can do much better.
To start off, the food is great and amazing, however, the service is terrible. Waited 40mins for food and 30 after finishing our food to pay. We would be waiting longer if we didnt just walk to the front and ask to pay. The lady helping us was rude but we had plans and didnt expect to be there for 2 hours from beginning to end.If its not crowded when you go maybe its worth it because the food is great. But the scale tips over when you include service.Ps they really push for you to get their very expensive guac.
Ive been here a few times, and it was good, but the last time was rough. I ordered a mock tail that was served to me with vodka in it. Then after a 45 minute wait, our 3 appetizers and 2 entres were all brought out to our tiny table at the same time. I literally had to move plates to the window sill next to us. After this, the waiter didnt show up again until I had to chase him down for the check. He honestly seemed very inexperienced. The staff of the entire place seemed stressed out and unhappy. Lastly, my wife has a gluten allergy and they basically didnt even care or check things. We had to send her drink back too. I wont be back, sorry.
Food was really nice and service was good. We were happy until the Check.I was charged 3 times 140USD and my bank notified me that the transactions have been completed. Our waitress was unable to help us and requested the manager Jonathan to help. Jonathan was unpolite, hostile and raised hes voice blaiming me about their cash system not working correctly. He was unable to provide me printouts=receipts from the payments and acted negatively and really unpolite way towards me. I recommend restaurant owner to take action on this person.I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Spend the evening at Lincoln center and finished off our evening with dinner at Rosa 🌹 Mexicano. We were greated by a sweet server but you can immediately tell she had a lot of tables to service. She brought out water for the table and a complimentary service of chips and salsa. THE SALSA is bomb!!!! Very tasty. We odered to guacamole and had it topped off with a pineapple salsa. The guacamole was fresh and chucky with medium spiciness 😋. We ordered the Paradillas service for 4. This dish did not disappoint. Its a lot of food. It had grilled chicken, Strip steak, jumbo shrimp, sausages, whole grilled onion, cheese stuffed jalapeños. It was serviced with 2 orders of frijoles borracho and Mexican Rice to be shared. The tortillas were fresh and plentiful. They were kept warm in a covered serving dish thru the whole meal. We enjoyed every bite and still had so much food left over. My server was adorable and funny. But definitely you can tell they might not have the work distributed evenly.
Do not waste your money. Terrible food in a city awash with excellent food. The entire menu is missing acid. Everything desperately needed lemon, lime, vinegar. Generally poorly prepared, eg steak in the Tampiquena was extra-well done when asked for medium-rare.Guac was flavorless as was salsa that came with the gratis chips. We spent $175 for one of the worst meals in a couple of years.
Last time we dined here was 2 years ago and we liked it. This time it was a disappointment. The place is extremely noisy. The service is indifferent. Had to send back one of the dishes because it was so undercooked. I would only come back here for a drink, which was good.
If you are looking for a authentic Mexican restaurant this is NOT THE PLACE. Trust me this place is nothing Mexican. Let me start from the hostess in the front very busy talking to each other and not paying attention to who comes in or goes out very disrespectful. The food is nothing Mexican is way too American and trust me I know about Mexican food, and for the price they give you nothing. My mother order the chicken tacos with cold tortilla hard to eat. The birria tacos is the worst tacos ever. 3 small tacos nothing flavored and more cheese than meat. The guacamole is just lime in there. Not to mention we got to ge up and ask for our missing forks smh, If you want a real Mexican food look for other places because here is very pricey and food is not so good.
This restaurant was very slow. I went after the lunch rush and waited 15 minutes at the bar before the bartender even acknowledged I needed a menu. Waited another 10 minutes before he returned- with water. I ordered queso and chips, waited another 15 minutes, it was decent- but lacked any flavor. I also ordered chicken quesadillas which could not be consumed- they arrived cold and the cheese had already started to congeal… the chicken had no seasoning, and the entire plate was covered in grease. I had about 4 bites of 4 quesadilla triangles. Probably the worst Mexican food I have had in years.
Terrible service, marginal food, inside very loud, outside meh... outside tables too smallInside very loud music, everyone needs to raise their voices to be heard over the music so total chaos.Outside, table for 2 barely large enough to fit drinks, let alone a full meal.Went inside to see if they had any hand cleanser - nope. No apology, just nope sorry.20 minutes between time seated and server first arrives. Pours water and then dissapears for another 20 minutes.Orders are taken and food is delivered ALL AT ONCE - appetizers and main course - minus the guacamole which never did arrive. Table is crammed and plates hanging off the edge.Flavors we bland - minimal seasoning. Green beans absolutely no seasoning - not even a smidge. After we finished we waited another 15 minutes or so and didnt see the server. Finally had to walk inside and ask them to prepare our bill. $150+ for two people - never again.
Food is great and well served, not totally authentic but yummy. If you like spicy you should ask for a table side of salsa (made from scratch) its perfect!!.Todays experience at brunch time was great but not the best, I was getting cold on an outside table and ask if we could seat inside, my petition was rejected but I wonder why cuz there where nobody in the first floor and only 2 tables occupied in the second floor (at that point we hadnt received any food, so I thought it couldnt be a problem) but meh!! I just decided to be a little be standing inside to get a little warm until received the food.I asked for sopes Benedict, and my companions tortas, margaritas and shrimp tacos (brunch apply for a yummy corn pie, recommended with coffee 👌).
Rosas Mexicano is a great spot for Mexican food, located right near Columbus Circle. The agave margaritas are delicious (I recommend the Spicy Cucumber), and their appetizers are excellent (definitely try the tableside guacamole, queso, and the black bean + cheese empanadas). I would definitely return here to try some of their mains (we largely stuck to appetizers during our visit). Another bonus: Lincoln Center is just a short walk away from this location!
Great place to meet or have a business lunch. Good deals for lunch. Nice ambience. Staff and waiters are friendly. I highly recommend the guacamole they make right in front of you. You can customize the spice level. It’s across the street from Lincoln center and around the corner from the Time Warner center.
The receptionist was prejudiced just because this time we didn’t went in business attire! She said that there were no spaces even though I was able to reserve space for two on the website and the business had many free tables. We were coming from Central Park and she didnt even offer to wait. The manager justified it as a ‘wrong selection of words’ from the receptionist instead of a lack in service attention or an apology. How is it possible that a Mexican place in NY.USA can be prejudice against a Latino? I enjoyed the place before, now I only have dishonorable comments to name. Hopefully the problem just on this branch.
One of the best guacamole I have ever tried, made freshly at your table. This is a classic Mexican restaurant, a big place with lots of character and history. Great margaritas with a variety that would satisfy anyone. The quality of the food is very good and the flavors are authentic. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. A great place to go after attending the opera, it is open until 11 pm. A very good experience overall.
I was there Friday night on a first date we sat down stairs the girls at reception did not seem to friendly as we asked if we could have another table since sitting in the middle did not make sense and the waiter kept insisting we order the guacamole we told him no 3 times, he was not very attentive I did not have a good experience I was there a year ago and it was amazing but again different staff and this time I sat upstairs
Update: despite a public response here -- obviously for the OPTICS of customer service -- no email back one week later.Yikes. Sat 15 mins before greeted. Out of certain flavors of margarita. One persons drink order in party never arrived. Guac came out immediately before entrées. 2nd round of drinks wrong too (with rims / prefences). Always sad to see when a mainstay gets lazy and complacent and assumes the customers will keep coming back.
Food was amazing!! Service outstanding Hands down. The inside will definitely give you a wow moment. The reason why Im rating it 4 star. It that our table was located in the perfect corner overlooking the city. But we couldnt see out of the balcony windows because on of the side was broken(blinds) it was completely down. For any upclass restaurant unacceptable.
We placed an order to go at the bar a piece of salmon a cheeseburger and chips and guacamole, $82. We got home and there were no chips and guacamole we walked back to get our chips and guac and when we got home our food was cold. The restaurant did nothing to rectify this.
Gucamole is ok, nothing spectacular like others have stated. Los tacos is way better for way less. Ordered the chicken nachos which was nice and tasty. It does not come in the traditional sense of tortilla chips, rather its layered on top of whole fried tortillas and then the server quarters it at the table. The quesdilla from the childrens menu is terrible tasting. My daughter just ate the cheese. She did love the berry mix that you can get with it as well. Overall it was a good experience but overpriced. Next time I will go with the brunch special for the unlimited drinks for 90mins.
Great restaurant. Always love Rosa Mexicano. Great flavors and different than normal run of the meal Mexican restaurants. Give it a try. You’ll like it. Love this location, close to Central Park, within walking distance of Times Square if you want a nice city walk and across the street from the Manhattan LDS Temple and Lincoln Center. Also around the corner from Trump Tower.
Went for brunch with a party of 4 at 1pm, restaurant was busy but quickly seated us. We made reservations but was likely not necessary. Brunch menu was excellent, with decent prices. The huevos Josefina and the churros french toast were unbelievably good. Bottomless drinks for $20 were also great, and youre allowed to try different ones. Will likely come back.
Cool atmosphere, really good food, nice servers. I had a frozen pomegranate margarita (good, not my favorite ever), and my wife had a mojito, which she liked very much. We started with the skillet queso, which is EXTREMELY dense and rich. It comes with some fresh corn tortillas. Wed probably do the table-side guacamole next time instead. My daughter had cheese quesadillas and wife had chicken quesadillas. Very large portions. I had the chicken enchiladas with mole sauce, and it was amazing. First time having mole sauce on anything, and they set the bar very high. Would definitely recommend that. Overall very happy!
The food looks incredible, but boring taste is only made worse by the service. To start, one should not have to beg your attention... to say the kids food was adequate is a stretch... the food lacks any true flavor except when it burns your mouth... now I have to say this is first time I left no tip... why? Nothing we asked for ever really came, drinks, sourcream.... except the bus of the table... I was actually shocked someone remember the bill... sorry I hate bad reviews but STAY CLEAR!
I came here on Valentines Day and the service was great. The second time I visited, which was a Sunday, the service was a little subpar, however the food was just as great. Its a little more expensive than moderate, but I believe the quality of the flavors makes up for it.
Unfortunately I cant rate them lower than one star. My wife and I went to see a show at Lincoln Center that ended at 3:15pm so I made reservation for 3:45pm at the Rosa Mexicano location across the street from Lincoln Center. When the show ended, many people walked into the restaurant due to its location. I was told to get on the line even though I told them that I have reservation. People were seated before us that did not have a reservation. we were seated by 3:50pm and was told we cant order from the lunch menu. Our waitress came once to check on us then she just disappeared. I had to asked another waiter to bring my check. The chicken flauta was under cooked, the steak Quesada tasted gamey, maybe it wasnt beef or maybe it was spoiled meat. We didnt order any main course since the appetizers were not cooked. The Churros was undercooked as well. They only served Coke products and water so we didnt have much of a choice on beverages since we dont drink alcohol. I will never recommend or visit this place again. Very disappointed at all level.
I ordered a skirt steak well done, the first cut everything seemed fine, but after O proceeded to cut the steak was not well done as I had asked. I told our waiter and the waiter said to the manager what happened and the only solution the manager offered was to send it back and have it cooked more. Could you imagine having them send back a plate that has already been touched by a customer back into the kitchen?! The service was DISAPPOINTING!! Next time I will just stick to Gallaghers and Peter Luger.
We entered the restaurant at 12:20 with a reservation at 12:45. Your table will be ready in a few minutes, says one of the staff. 35 minutes later: We are getting your table ready. We waited for so long. The guacamole was delicious, a bit spicy, but still good. Soup was a disaster. If they had added 2 times less salt, the soup would be good. It was just gross, and the mouthful salty water just...arrggh. The beef was yum, the shrimp was very very yum. Unlimited refills of coke? Awesome. Food was overall good, but service couldve been much better.
Chicken mole was a large portion ($23), cocktails and mocktails are nice. Conveniently located within a block of Lincoln Center, and attracts a trendy, but still nice and / or family dining crowd. During Happy Hour, rambunctious young professionals. $$ - $$$ expensive.
We’ve been enjoying the delicious dishes at Rosa Mexicano since 1985, on our trips to New York. First, we dined in the low-ceiling Rosa Mexican on First Avenue, then moved on to the beautiful Lincoln Center location. We’ve enjoyed the tasty table-side chunky guacamole, the savory main dishes and the desserts, though some of the desserts that we enjoyed from earlier days have been dropped. We’ve also enjoyed the restaurant’s signature frozen pomegranate margaritas and its selection of cold Mexican beers. Over the years, we’ve brought dozens of family and friends here, even convincing some skeptics that they’d love the guacamole. Some of us even try to follow the guacamole recipe back home. The last relative we brought, a few weeks before the pandemic, said he was glad to have been finally initiated into the Rosa Mexicano Club. We’re glad that founder Josefina Howard’s legacy is still honored.
Been coming here for years! Good spot for special occasions (its wicked expensive for day2day) The decor is great and the drinks are plentiful. The food is pretty stellar too. Word of advice, you really should make a reservation because this joint is packed and will turn you away or put you in the street shed. Two words: Pomegranate Margarita.
They didnt have too many options. We ordered chicken street tacos and the skirt steak. They should have advised us that the tacos were going to be MINI tacos. They were tiny! They didnt come with sour cream or tomatoes or anything else that is usually on tacos. The steak was chewy. Then we ordered dessert and the flan was DISGUSTING. I never ever return food. But the flan had a chemical flavor. The service was exceptional, I have nothing bad to say about the waiters, its not their fault. I also dont like the fact that the kitchen upstairs is right next to the restrooms. I went upstairs to use the bathroom and had to pass the kitchen and there was an awful smell, I thought it was the food, but it was that someone vomited in the bathroom sink and left it there. That smell was in the air of the kitchen!
I ordered the spicy cucumber cocktail which was quite delicious and refreshing. I actually only meant to order one but ended up getting a second one because it was so good. While I really enjoyed the cocktail the food on the other hand left a lot to be desired. The octopus street tacos needed more sauce and flavor. The Chamorro (braised pork flank) was delicious but it was way too dry and over cooked in some parts. I would want to give this place another shot but honestly I’ve had better Mexican food from a food truck. I would return for the cocktails though.
Neat two story restaurant with a cool waterfall. We were seated right away and our waiter was great. Fish tacos were really good and the table side made guac was delicious. Had their house pomegranate margaritas which were the bomb! The salsa was surprisingly good too. Our friends had carnitas and they got a huge chunk of pork on the bone to put on their tortillas, it was so big they gave the rest to me. So good!
The food itself was pretty good. I had some enchiladas which I enjoyed 2 out of the 3 of them. No complaints there.Unfortunately I went against my better judgment and got a desert recommended by the waiter who only really stopped to deliver the food and charge us.That was a huge mistake since their Concha tasted like a piece of bread that was taken out of a refrigerator.I honestly had higher expectations because I knew the price Id be paying for things but I honestly wish I had gone to a local Mexican spot, it seems they still do it best.
If I could give half a star, I would. I have gone to Rosa mexicana at it’s various locations for some 30 years. It was always delicious and the service attentive.Having moved out of NYC some time ago, I hadn’t been in several years. After a performance we went to the one on Columbus Ave. It was shockingly bad. The famous margaritas seemed to have very little alcohol, if any. The food, which arrived after more than an hour, was COLD, presumably because the waiter had failed to pick it up in a timely fashion. We had to send the food back to be warmed. When it was finally warm enough to eat, it was bland and the rice undercooked. Wine had to be sent back twice for being corked. And the service was a nightmare. Everyone we spoke to around us was having the same experience. Sadly, we won’t be back.
Being from Texas, I have different expectations of Mexican food than some. I enjoy more classics than reinventing something as simple as nachos with a fancy plated concoction that doesnt resemble nachos at all. We were seated quickly at lunch time and the views and decor of the restaurant are beautiful. Margarita was strong and tasty. The queso was delicious but very different than what I was expecting. Our waiter took our order but I guess failed to take into consideration our special requests, because the food arrived not as ordered and he quickly became impossible to find. It was a disappointment that set us back almost $70 for a lunch that was honestly the least appetizing meal I had during my entire NYC vacation. Perhaps this would be a good fit for those with fancier palates than mine and my companion, but still definitely not worth the price paid for what you get.
5 Stars, no doubt about it!Josefina’s authentic recipes and techniques are still used by Rosa Mexicano chefs today. Rosa Mexicano founder, Josefina Howard, may have been born in Cuba, but it was the people, culture, cuisine and spirit of Mexico that lead her to call it “home.” Sharing the cuisine became Josefinas mission; and she made her mark as the first chef to introduce authentic, fine-dining Mexican fare to the New York restaurant scene with Rosa Mexicano in 1984.
While the food was good, the host that greeted us had a snitty attitude and didnt want to seat us at an outdoor booth that was available. He said it was for larger parties only (we were a party of 2), even though there was other booths in which only two people clearly were seated. Service was extremely slow and outdoor seating has no heat lamps. This made for a freezing cold meal. Meanwhile, the booths in question sat vacant throughout the entire duration of our meal. Was it worth returning here? Definitely not, especially considering the wide variety of other options in the immediate vicinity. Rosa Mexicano has some serious work to do in terms of service and professionalism.
Its a large restaurant on two levels and the food is good. The decor is nice. I particularly liked the guacamole. My salmon salad entree was perfectly fine. The menu was very meat heavy with few vegetarian options, which I found disappointing. The thing I liked least was how noisy it was there. They might have earned a fourth star if not for the unpleasantly loud environment. Due to the lack of noneat options and the noise level, I wont be returning to Rosa Mexicano.
Food is good not excellent. You get a taste of Mexican street food for sure. Ambiance is very relaxed and quiet... which is a plus in NYC..you can actually had have a conversation.. cocktails were rated low among my group of friends.. sorry! $120 for 3 people, brunch special .
Great food, beautiful setting! Classy decor, attentive staff, killer margueritas. We had dinner before a show across the street at Lincoln Center, based on a recommendation by a friend. So right! An upscale experience without busting the bank. Sit on the second floor, above the noise, with a view of the street and the shimmering water wall, complete with hundreds of mini cliff divers We had the fantastic margueritas, an app (queso fundido, which was delicious), entrees (steak and enchiladas - terrific), split a chocolate cake (amazing), and coffee . Their salsa, delivered promptly to the table, along with fresh chips, is some of the best salsa Ive ever had. The bill with tip was less than $150, which considering the delicious food and glittering atmosphere, was affordable for NYC. Absolutely would do it again.
I came to Rosa Mexicano last evening for a different kind of Thanksgiving experience. Our reservation was made for 6:00 pm and when we arrived were told by the young lady at the front desk and later the server that they were closing at 7:00 pm. One lady said to me that I shouldnt worry and had enough time to finish dinner. That was after I had said that I wished I had known the early closing time. Needless to say we rushed through dinner while watching customers being seated close to the so-called 7:00 pm closing time. So, of course, upon leaving I inquired again, wondering why all these people were being seated. Now the answer was that they were not closing at 7:00 pm but that was the last seating time. Why we were told otherwise by the other hostess and one server absolutely that 7:00 pm was the time the restaurant was closing will forever be a mystery. We made the best of it, having the shortest Thanksgiving dinner known to man, but staff does need to learn how to listen and communicate better to customers.
High End Chain Restaurant. Kind of a scene actually. I dont understand why in NY the flour Tortilla are so doughy and bland. They just dont compare to Southern California. The restaurant has an interesting decor and can accommodate many large parties. Many large parties wore the pink Sombrero for the birthday girl. :)
The place makes killer food here, but, they are incapable of delivering an order with the correct amount of chips. 5/6 of the last orders, they have given us either one bag less than we ordered, or this time, we ordered three total, and received one. Seems small, but why order Mexican if your can ge chips!? It causes quite an ordeal with the family sharing one small bag of chips. Really feels like an easy fix, just count the bags before the order leaves?
Previously, a big fan of this Rosa Mexicano. However, this time was a real letdown. The menu has changed for the worse, the food quality is worse, and the service was poor. Most problematic of all, they were unable to accommodate my food allergies. Multiple times, I was served dishes with food Im allergic to right there on the plate, despite me clearly communicating my needs.
Terrible service, rude staff. Youre better off dining at PJ Clarkes when visiting Lincoln Center. Will not return...We had dinner and drinks before seeing the Met Opera last Friday. Just before asking for the check, my girlfriend asked for another drink, as I was still sipping mine. The check and the drink came at the same time. We paid the bill, but sent the drink back because it wasnt what we thought we ordered. The manager was very attentive at first, insisting that they would be happy to make us a new one. After 30 minutes, the drink never came. Since the opera was starting, we began to leave and asked for a refund on the drink. They refused, insisting that the drink had been served. This was very disappointing, as I had previously dined here on other occasions, and had enjoyed myself well. After much protesting on our part, both the manager and server insisted that we were simply misremembering and that we would not be refund for the drink. This made my girlfriend feel anxious and uncomfortable, as the clear implication was that we were somehow trying to cheat the restaurant. We opted to simply leave, and decided to not let this distasteful experience ruin our night. We heard Nessun Dorma for the first time, and ended up having a beautiful night at the Opera, no thanks to Rosa Mexicano.
Unfortunately, the quality of the food just continues to unimpress me. Great staff, but 3 out of the 5 dishes we ordered were very dry (they were the cod, salmon, pork tacos). The Bouidin and chamorro were tasty. For good Mexican food, there are many other places to try in the city.
Came here to have dinner for the first time on mothers day with my grandmother and mother! Absolutely amazing food and ambiance!! Extremely clean and well kept! Food came out hot and on good timing! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for some great food and and a great vibe! I should add i went to the one in Columbus circle! So please do not use this review for their other locations!
We decided to have a family night out and go to Rosa Mexicano. However, our food was very bland and we did not complain we did not feel the need to complain about this.We noticed one of our children wasnt touching their burger. When we broke the burger in half we seen it was still pure bright red and not well done. We couldnt believe this was the food that was served out for a child! Its a shame because we do live right in the area. As the night progressed our other child which ate all their food at the restaurant ended up vomiting all night due to food poisoning. We will never reccomend this restaurant or take family here again. We definitely regret coming here.
Made reservations for my family and I and were seated immediately. Food was mediocre (not awful but definitely not astonishing) I’ve had better enchiladas and carnitas at other Mexican restaurants. Margaritas were good. Nice interior of the restaurant. Restaurant is more casual than fancy. Good example of americanized Mexican food, MIGHT visit again.
Food and drinks are okay, but pricey for the pour. Nice people work here, but there was no diversity of staff in a city that has so many different people. Why are there only Latinos working here? I asked if there were any Black people there and the only one supposedly was a Black cook. I was so shocked I didn’t want to ask how many Asian or White people worked there, but I saw none. I thought this city was the melting pot of the world! Rosa Mexicano doesn’t show it.
First of all I wanted to say that the food was really good! Everything was freshly cooked and tasted delicious. Second of all the service could be better. Our waiter was nice but I think he had to do the whole floor by himself. He looked really tired and lost. Other than that we left with good vibes from this restaurant.
Hands down the worst service Ive ever received in NYC. I had to ask multiple staff members to take my order. Im not exaggerating - I asked six times. Then they finally took my order and forgot to put it in....twice! Got my food 1.25 hours after sitting down. Didnt even have time to eat more than one taco and order more than one drink before I had to leave. The staff seemed stretched and couldnt handle it. Water was not refilled the whole dinner. I will never go back to this resturant. Plenty of better options near by.
My girlfriend and I were looking forward to trying Rosa after hearing wonderful things from our friends. We went on a Friday night with a reservation and ended up at a lousy cramped table by the loud kitchen. The host was very rude, didnt ask if we wanted paper menus and just left. 10 minutes after sitting, someone finally came to take our drink order. I couldnt tell you if it was our waiter or not because they never introduced themselves and were too busy to care.10 minutes after that, we finally got drinks and were able to place our order. Another 15 minutes passed and all of the tables around us (who arrived well after us) had drinks and food. The tables full of people who were well-dressed were waited on quite literally hand and foot. I guess we didnt look rich enough to be eating there. This seems to be a trend, as someone else recently wrote a review noticing the same thing happened to them. We kept looking around, trying to figure out where our appetizer went. Finally, someone came and quite literally slapped it on the table and ran away. Finally after almost 45 minutes, our meals arrived at lukewarm temperature. My girlfriends enchiladas were three tiny bites - tortilla, dry chicken, and a handful of tomatoes inside - covered in a sea of sauce (probably to make up for the laughable portions). There were no sides included, and the food didnt seem to match the menu description as the enchiladas didnt have cheese or any other toppings. She walked out of the restaurant still hungry. As Im writing this review, were eating dessert that we got elsewhere as we werent about to wait around for dessert after that horrible meal. We were willing to spend more money at Rosa, but we didnt look wealthy enough to the staff, so they didnt care about us. Unless you look rich and dress up to their standards, avoid this place. You wont be given fair service. There are much better neighborhood spots that dont discriminate.Needless to say, we will never return after this terrible experience and can not encourage you enough to find literally anywhere else to eat (I almost stopped for a dollar slice after).
The staff here was nice and the inside was beautiful. Unfortunately the brunch dish did not come with the side it said it did, and only after we left did we realize we got screwed out of some of our food. We also got the churro french toast and it was just bad. Really bad. A big bummer. The cocktails were strong though, and the brunch deal is good.
I have been going to Rosa Mexicano for many decades. The food was always delicious and the service warm and welcoming. The service when I joined dear friends there last night to finally share a post-shut down indoor dining experience was abysmal! I will not itemize all of the things that I and my guests both noticed and commented upon while dining, for example, your normally fantastic guacamole was not made at the table and tasted like it had been batch- rather than freshly- made allowing for the taste and desired spiciness to be adjusted at our table. The chicken quesadilla was dried out and tasteless with little or no filling to compensate. I could go on about the food but especially want to mention a few things about the service which all members of my party were spared but observed in the manner that some other patrons were treated: so unwelcoming and offensive that you should address it immediately:The two women employees who Im sure were hired to welcome patrons to the restaurant and assign them to seats were repeatedly dishonest about the availability of seating with various arriving patrons who had apparently requested upstairs dining in their reservations. My party heard them brusquely tell at least three parties that the upstairs dining room was full and no tables would be available for at least forty-five more minutes when it was virtually empty when my party was at the same time seated upstairs. The upstairs dining space remained only half filled during the whole time we were at the restaurant. These same hostesses (with a clock and visible clip-boarded patrons list) were also parading in a menacing manner among the diners - while the waiters every few minutes repeatedly asked still dining customers if they could remove half finished dishes from the tables when there were plenty of free tables available and no waiting patrons were being inconvenienced.I hope this was a one time occurrence as I would be very sad to have one of my few regular restaurants that is currently up and running in the city now deliver seemingly pre-prepared dishes and be inconsiderate and rude to its patrons.
Went for brunch on a Sunday. They were very busy and we sat outside. The food and frozen margaritas were fantastic! The reason for not giving 5 stars is because I paid for the bottomless margaritas and it was an hour between the first and second one. I dont hold it against the server because they were busy but when he dropped off the second one he said it was last call for bottomless. Seemed a little unfair since we waited so long for the second round.

2022-06-26Pleasant and reliable stop for elevated Mexican cuisine across from Lincoln Center. They do make a nice guacamole at Table side, the margaritas are good and the prices are not insane for a decent Mexican meal. The day we went was hot and humid and we were all quite surprised to find that we had to request air conditioning on the upper level. The gentleman, presumably a manager, that I asked for additional air conditioning seemed confused by my request and I don’t think that much was done about this issue.

2022-04-10Delicious Spicy Cucumber Margaritas. The only place in the city with a good enchilada! We searched everywhere. Bartender Cindy was FANTASTIC. She remembered our order by heart, gave helpful food tips. Most remarkable, she navigated an old woman letting her dog jump on people with style and grace.

2022-06-19As a Texan, I hate to admit this….. but Rosa Mexicano has some of the best Mexican food I’ve eaten! The Mexican fried rice is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten, and the duck carnitas enchiladas were amazing as well. Great location. Great atmosphere. Great experience all around!

2022-08-04The waiter and servers were superb but management was unprofessional. The manager of the establishment charged myself and my family members full price for our meals that we complained about. Our food was cold, wrong order as well as flies on our food. The manager stated he made modifications to the tab but we were still charged for our meals that insects destroyed. Our appetites were ruined due to these circumstances. This was our first time dining at this establishment. The family was celebrating my daughters 30th birthday celebration.

2022-07-01Rosa has been on my bucket list for some time now and I was pleasantly surprised at the wonderful food and attentive service. Beautifully decorated place, lovely drinks, but I think the real star of my experience was the mexican rice (I added steak). Cant wait to return!

2022-03-04Average cuisine. We found the guacamole to be missing some flavors. We had to constantly add lime and chilli to enjoy it. Chicken taco was good.

2022-01-12Best nachos Ive ever had ! Great portions, specially for the happy hour plates. My only issue was the chicken tortilla soup; it was not soup as much as extremely thick, reduced stock. Not bad but NOT soup. Excellent service.

2022-07-31PS: after my prior review of a bad experience last month, we visited again today with 3 dogs. We were seated at a booth by a wonderful hostess who was friendly to the dogs and very quickly sat us down. Our waiter was thoughtful and brought dogs individual plastic water bowls. He was very knowledgeable about the drinks and the food & attentive. Food & drinks were delicious as always! I’m, therefore, changing my rating! It was a perfect brunch for us all!Absolutely delicious food & cocktails. Wonderful & smart waiter. However…. We were just there around 12:45pm to 2:15pm today (Saturday June 18 2022) we felt the need to point out1) hostess lectured us about the table we chose. I simply complied & she was ok at the end2) the gentleman who brought us the guacamole: he literally HISSED at one of my dogs. My dog did not touch him. She was standing there being her friendly and obedient self. She was saddened and kept to herself since then. This was uncalled for. We sat outside and kept dogs short leashed and quiet. Plus there were other dogs too!Otherwise- it was a lovely meal and I’d have given five stars if the above didn’t sadly ruin our weekend meal
