I love this little theatre. They usually play smaller, independent or foreign films that are sometimes hard to find at your bigger name cinemas. There’s only 1 theatre and it’s not very big, but it adds to the charm of the space. There’s a cute concession stand right outside the theatre that sells candy and drinks from the bar. (The theatre is towards the back of the hotel through the lobby, downstairs)
I got to say: this theater is cool, its old school, its really not that expensive and it has a great selection of movies throughout the week from newer releases to hits from past decades. However, every.... single.... time I go to this theater the absolute WORST audience is there. People using their phones, talking throughout the movie, a ridiculous amount of getting up and coming back in with no consideration of standing in front of the projection or anything. I have been to this theater at least 6 times and every single time all the above is happening. I dont know if its tourists on vacation since its a hotel, or the typical inconsiderate retiree baby boomer locals who reflect what Im saying above, but just the level of inconsideration is incredible. Ill still come to this theater because they have a great selection and its so old school but oh my god is it a chore to watch anything here with such a lack of etiquette. Madonn!
I went to this cinema to see a movie that was posted online. When we got there they informed us the movie was cancelled because they didnt own the license to show the movie. I was a bit disappointed but the most annoying part was the attitude of the girl who works there. Minimal to no eye contact, very aggressive and angry. She was looking away while she talked to us and treated us like we are to blame for something. Not sure whats going on?! The place is very cute but with people like that working there not sure if I want to go there again.
I come here for the popcorn and stay for the shaved ice downstairs. This is the only movie theater where i get popcorn. Im one who gets nauseas at the smell of movie theater popcorn (doesnt it smell like feet?) but this place has caramel corn which smells like heaven. That alone makes it worth it to come to this theater.
Truly one of the worst projections I’ve ever seen. It was 35mm and virtually every reel change was botched somehow. Horrible sight lines, too - I sat behind people with big hair and strained to see the screen for much of the movie. Won’t come back here unless I can’t see a movie anywhere else.
I went to see Hocus Pocus in theaters and they didn’t check the dvd! They were too cheap to afford a digital copy of the movie and ended up showing some bootleg skeleton movie. The disc was scratched! Only good thing about this experience is the person at the counter gave people refunds, free popcorn, and he gave someone 20 dollars for no reason.
THE ROXY CINEMA IS THE PEAK OF PERFECTION.COURTEOUS HELPFUL STAFF.BEAUTIFUL,CLEAN ENVIRONMENT.THE TICKETS ARE THE LEAST EXPENSIVE I KNOW IN MANHATTAN AT $12THEY ACCEPT MOVIEPASS WITH PLEASURE.THE THEATER IS FREE FOR ALL GUESTS OF THE HOTEL LOCATED UPSTAIRS.YOU CAN EVEN GET A PASS WITH POPCORN INCLUDED FOR ONLY $125HIGH CLASS FOR SURE.OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.THEY HAVE A CERTAIN FLAIR.LOUNGE AREA IS RELAXING AND THEY EVEN HAVE A SORT OF GAME SPACE IN THE LOBBY AND NEAR THE MAIN FLOOR BAR.THERE IS A PHOTO BOOTH,CHESS TABLE AND A POOL TABLE.VERY NEAR TO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SO ITS VERY CONVENIENT TO GET TO.M55 BUS ON 6TH AVE OR 1 TRAIN AT FRANKLIN STREET
Prices are very expensive and the sound is extremely loud. Also basically all movies are dubbed. However the facilities are very good and it is an important contribution to leisure and culture for Itauna, very well located on the main avenue, Av. Jove Soares and always has good options for childrens movies. For adults, its a good suggestion to go to the movies and then go out to eat or drink at the nearby bars and restaurants.

2022-06-03Awesome little cinema inside the Roxy Hotel! I’ve stayed at the Roxy and been to their late night bar quite a few times, and the cinema within the building is a nice touch. The single screen auditorium is solidly underground, and adds to the ambiance created by the small audience size and deep red walls. 10/10 would recommend seeing anything that peaks your interest for the experience alone. Concessions stand is also available with a decently priced candy wine and drinks selection.

2022-02-14I dont even know why I used to go farther and never went to this cinema to watch movies. Well sometimes we make bad decisions. LolOne thing I love about this theatre is its huge and beautiful inside. The parking space is good. The actual cinema is nice. The seats are better compared to most if the movie houses I have been to and the restrooms are so clean. No gross seats and empty toilet paper dispensers. Employees are nice.

2022-04-09A single screen theater adorned with velvet curtains and dripping with beautiful atmosphere, this is the ideal cinema. Nestled under the historic Roxy Hotel its hard to not fall under the spell of cinema once you step foot within. They show movies the way theyre meant to be seen: in stunning, whirring 35mm celluloid. They offer a 230/ year unlimited pass that after just one visit, Im heavily considering. Theaters like the Alamo and metrograph get all the attention as landmark theaters but if you want to get a drink and feel wrapped up in a blanket of cinema, come to the Roxy.

2022-06-19I can’t say enough about this place. The concession and check in staff are dressed to the 9s, the theater itself is beautiful and the presentation of a 35mm classic was impeccable. We came all the way from Texas for this and it didn’t disappoint for a moment. My hat is off to the staff from beginning to end. A must for any cinephile.

2021-12-01A bit pricey, not everything on the concession menu was available, and there was no butter for the popcorn. However, it is a real cool spot that creates an intimate cinema setting. Great selection of films to see. I would highly recommend this place, just make sure to fill up on food before you get there.

2021-08-31Excellent movie house here in our area! I proved it when I went to your movie house just a week ago. It has a good place to watch a movie, very refreshing, the seats were very comfortable. Their staff was also very professional and friendly. Very strongly recommended to everyone! I must surely introduce you to everyone!

2021-12-10Located way downtown. Be at the front of the E train if traveling from uptown. Hotel stuffed with billionaires so dress up or get dirty looks from snobs. Popcorn ok... They need pies desserts ...sandwiches?

2018-05-12Cool little theater that I imagine doesn’t make money, or at least not much, but it’s a nice perk of being a hotel guest. They show small-release movies, sometimes ones that aren’t showing anywhere else in New York. They’re one of a few theaters that do e-ticketing with MoviePass, which is nice, although they don’t do assigned seating. The seats are the red plush variety, and low, but the springs were still working and there was actually a lot of leg room. The fabric is a little scratchy. I thought he sound was a bit loud, could have been the movie. The picture quality is fine, no complaints. The front row is several years back from the screen, which isn’t huge, so no one will be too close, but the back rows are pretty far back. Still, no one will strain their neck looking up. They sell typical movie snacks and popcorn, although I’m not sure how fresh it is. There’s also a great coffee place in the hotel lobby and one can obviously bring a coffee into the theater. If they are showing something I want to see, I wouldn’t hesitate to come back.
