I called Royal Chimney for my wood stove chimney to be cleaned out before we start using it this winter. John was able to come the next day. He checked out the outside chimney and inside pipe and determined that we didnt need the cleaning, and didnt charge me anything for coming out. He was knowledgable and professional, so if we end up having any issues with the stove, well definitely call Royal again.
We had three chimney professionals assess our chimney. Two found that we needed services they could provide for four figure numbers. John at Royal determined that we needed far less than the other two had stated so at a potential fee-cost to himself, he recommended that the only work that needed to be done was in the very low three figures area. We chose his refreshingly honest approach to business and were very happy with the quality job he did for us.We usually don’t write reviews about anything but this guy’s worth it. (Wishing he did other kinds of home improvement stuff.)
John is one-of-a-kind. We hadnt used our fireplace in years and recently decided to make greater use of it. John came by, examined the chimney, and told us no cleaning was necessary. I then mentioned that we had an issue with the heating system vent. He took a look, went up on the roof, and told us there was no cap on it. John ordered the cap, returned within 36 hours, installed it, and after reconnecting a gutter (gratis), went on his way. His fee was very low. John is a master of his trade and a man of his word.
We moved into a new home in late July and needed the chimney cleaned before my family arrived for Thanksgiving. I did a Google search for chimney cleaners and Royal Chimney came up.I contacted John and he came that night and did a great job. The old owner had not cleaned the chimney in a long time and John took care of everything.Coming from the city we were not familiar with how to use a fireplace but he explained everything to us. I highly recommend Royal Chimney & Gutter Services.
John came over the same day I called him during a time when everyone is booking 8 weeks out. He was in my area so he came over. He gave me an honest assessment of my chimney (which was that we were not In need of a cleaning and I was on my way. His rates are reasonably priced and I will absolutely be calling him again in the future.
Working with John was great. We found a leak due to a gutter issue on a floor upstairs. We contacted him that day and he was out to inspect it that evening. Three days later, after a few ordered parts arrived, he fixed that, capped our chimney, unclogged a gutter, and knocked out a roof issue I would have missed completely. To top it off he removed an old satellite dish for free. Great guy, honest pricing, excellent service, and especially important for a leaky roof, quick to respond.
John definitely tells it like it is. He came shortly after another chimney person came to inspect my fireplace and furnace chimneys, and to my surprise I realized the other chimney company person was trying to rip me off by suggesting a flue liner for my furnace chimney, saying I needed one because the original had deteriorated -- John showed me specifically what I was looking at inside the furnace chimney, and I couldnt believe my eyes (or that the prior guy lied like that). Needless to say, John also provided a reasonable price for repair of the exterior chimney, and he recommended an easy fix that I could do myself inside my fireplace - - wish there were more contractors with his honesty and work ethics.
John came and inspected each of our fireplaces and told us that only one needed cleaning. He did a great job and is very honest. I will definitely be using his services in the future.

I called Royal after learning my prior company in CT was not licensed to work in NYS. I decided to google to see who was licensed in my area and Royal came up and they had the most and the best reviews. I called and John answered immediately and said he would be to me within the hour. I couldn’t ask for better service than that! After moving into my home, I wanted my 3 chimneys to be looked at prior to using my fireplaces for the season. He checked all of them out and said they were all good. He charged me $50 for a service call which was discussed prior to him arriving. His prices are fair, he is honest and he is extremely punctual. He texted me to let me know when he was on his way. I will definitely use Royal again. Royal is my go to chimney cleaner!

Excellent service from a true professional! Called for a quote in the morning to have the damper in my chimney replaced and John was able to work us in that day. He Was able to quickly repair it and saved us $$$ by not having to get a brand new one that another quote said we needed. Happy to say I have found my chimney guy!!!
Great, fast, and efficient service! John responded to my message about a chimney sweep and inspection right away and was very flexible in scheduling. Very knowledgeable and quick to diagnose issues. Ordered the part that we needed quickly and installed as soon as it came in.
John came and inspected our chiminey of our newly purchased home. He said it didn’t need a cleaning even though he could have and I wouldn’t have known the difference. He installed a chininey cap for us and then, get this, started out first fire in our home. Great guy, great service!
John came over the same day, was very honest about what I did not need. I had him over for a second opinion, he saved me thousands. Hes been in business for 30 years and wont sell you what you dont need.

I called John on Memorial Day and I had doubt that anyone would be able to come by my house on a holiday. He answered immediately and made it over to my house in about an hour. He is very responsive and works efficiently. I highly recommend calling him for any and all concerns.

Service was well done. Scheduling a good time was a bit challenging. Would have liked more floor protection during the chimney sweep, but overall a good experience. $120 for the chimney sweep was very fair.

Called about a missing brick on my chimney. Called in the morning. He showed up at noon, took a look, then came back about 2 hours later and did the work that day. Replaced brick and fixed up some cracks.

2021-11-28I’m not kidding when I say, we dedicated our night to John! We’ve been waiting months for a chimney inspection & clean and John was able to squeeze us in last minute. It’s cold and our old home could use some insulation updates. In the meantime John’s inspection got our fireplace up & running! We are warm and toasty and didn’t have to wait months or spend 10x as much. Honest, knowledgeable, good guy! 10 outta 10!

2022-08-29What can I say, the man is a delight! We are first time homeowners and John was great about educating us on our fireplace. He was honest about what we needed, and more importantly didn’t need. He tried to save us money at every turn, and did a great job on the repairs. He was pleasant to have around the house, and even got us up on the roof to check out the work when it was done. Had a great experience and am looking forward to working with him again.

2021-10-21Called John at Royal and am very glad I did. Got here fast, took at look at my concerns/issues, and was up working on them in minutes. He was back the next day to finish the install work with the part needed and now were good to go, ready for the season.Hes knowledgeable, responsive and cares about his work and his customers. 2022-04-26Shocking this business has so many positive reviews. Impossible to get a response. Tried on two separate occasions (early season and late season) and had to follow up numerous times to ask when John could come by and never got straight answers. Never showed up after weeks of trying. Go elsewhere

2020-12-03John is the best chimney guy around. Honest dude, hes the first chimney guy who ever came and inspected my chimney and said it did not need a cleaning. He will not charge you for a service you dont need. He also fixed a complicated issue I had with my damper. Highly recommended!

2020-11-10Excellent service! I called asking for a chimney cleaning. John managed to squeeze me in on the same day. When John arrived and looked at my chimney, he very honestly told me I did not need a chimney cleaning and instead gave me detailed instructions on how to light fires and maintain the fireplace to avoid smokiness. John was great!

2019-10-10John is great! He was able to fit us in the day I called. He was able to tell us all about our chimney - ours was designed with a distributor to push heat into the home. He looked it over and because it was in pretty good shape he didn’t even charge full price for the cleaning. No upselling at all. And he was very clean. Not a smudge was left. I will definitely use him again.
