I ordered jerk chicken.. The food was to spicy. I literally couldnt eat the food. I spent 15.00 and change a waste of money. I dont recommend this restaurant at all.
Best Jamaican food in town. Someone is always near the entrance, so you do not have to wait long to place your order.
Excellent place, excellent service, excellent food. I always enjoy when people are nice because it mean their food will be just as nice and this lived up to the expectations. Will be making them my favorite Jamaican spot, since i will be living here in Albany now

Roys have some great food! Seriously though. My favorite is beef stew. Yummy. The oxtails are excellent too. So soft and flavourful. Plus unlike all the other Caribbean restaurants in Albany, they are generous with the meat portions, making them top of the top. I wanted some oxtails today so I went. Unfortunately they didnt make them today which is Monday. Ill be back Friday though to get some. Love Roys.
Best Jamaican food Ive ever had. Jerk chicken is actually spicy, and Ive never liked cabbage before eating there cooked cabbage side. Also the meat/veggie pattys are made in-house and taste amazing.

Food is not worth the the price they sell for it’s not I only visit it once and will never again I vomited after I after Mac and cheese the beef patty was no good and I am scared to eat the oxtail and jerk wings I bought and most of all the don’t answer. I was visiting from out of town for work . So tired of being over charged for food. I searched google for jamaican food and found Roys. The price and quality of food almost made a 5star restaurant. The reason they lose a star is for the lack of respect, consideration of my Syrian friend that came with me. He was set to order after me. He was literally the next person in line . Because he asked to see the food, the women response was the kitchen is now close. In a rude way. I mean really was not trying to allow him to place an order. Despite the long line behind him. Which im sure some of their orders would have had to come from the kitchen as well. My friend practically begged her to take his order. Thats not right. Where we come from jamaican restaurants show the food youll be ordering. Bad customer service for real. *** dont order that dark salmon *** if its dark its because its old or overcooked.. i didnt really like the salmon. But i ate it 🤔😂😂..

My wife went into Roys to get some authentic Jamaican food and the young lady at the front was awesome. I went back last week myself and I couldnt be more pleased. I used to go to Kenneth but they take too long to give you your food. I waited almost an hour at Kenneths once to get food. We love Roys!!!
Very warm & friendly staff! The woman behind the counter greeted every person who enter, as she continued to serve amazing food. Ordered oxtail, plantains, rice & peas. So good... Will definitely return!
It is truly the taste of the Caribbean. In fact better than a lot of places Ive had. My sons comment after eating jerk chicken Im getting that Turks and Caicos vibe.
Gotta give this place a second chance. There full menu was ready by lunch time and theyre pretty quick with filling your order. Wide variety of food to choose from.

My favorite restaurant of any type in the capital district! I’ve been to their Henry Johnson Blvd location and their midday food truck at the Empire State Plaza. Jerk chicken and curry goat in particular are delicious! Generous portions, reasonable prices, and always friendly service! If you like your meat tender, your seasonings hot, and your plantains sweet, this is your place!
Had to pick up dinner that day, didnt feel like cooking
Ive been to Jamaica...and Roys jerk chicken -- I kid you not -- not only holds up, its as good as Ive ever had. Just hot enough, just tender enough. Unreal. The ox-tails? Worlds-class. The meat pies? Well, you get the point. Now add the service with a smile, and trust me. Get over there. Now.
Customer service was good, hence the 2 stars the food 🤦🏾♀️ My boyfriend drove me 1hour and 30mins to get me to this location. We both got the oxtails and we were super excited. After an hour and 30mins drive back home and tasting the food I was very disappointed. Food was not well seasoned just tasted like fatty grease even my gravy 😤. Not sure if I would return to this establishment but definitely don’t recommend them!!

Just once Id like to come to this establishment and receive even minimal customer service. I was charged for wings added to my order that I did not ask for. When I pointed out the error I was given an insane amount of attitude and she tried to convince me that I asked for them. Once I explained that I clearly didnt, I was then told that it is too difficult to get the refund processed. I then get in my vehicle and check the order to discover that the extra order of wings I was charged wasnt even added to my bag. Once again requiring me to go back in the store and deal with the same nasty attitude. Please do better.

Chicken soup is seasoned well and very flavorful. The oxtails are juicy and fall off the bone tender. The cabbage is full of flavor and still has crunch, not wilted lol... and oh my , the rice and peas are again tender and delicious.

Mean Jamaican (Black) lady with SHORT BLONDE hair who likes to cop an attitude when you ask for extra oxtail gravy on your rice. I’ve been to Roy’s about 5 times. And don’t think I’ll be returning, because every time I go I’m dealing with someone who has an attitude or someone who is being condescending. And it’s NEVER the males, always the woman unfortunately. They also don’t like to burn the hair and feathers off of their jerk wings. That is gross and you can get sick from that.
Long wait line, not enough fried plantains
I ordered the large oxtail dinner this morning, the plate had two big oxtails and two small oxtail the big oxtails the meat is stuck on the bone. I called to discuss my options, the woman on the phone was very rude stated I could bring the food back and they can fix it. I informed her i dont get off till 6:30 and I already bought food somewhere else. She said oh well and hung up. I will never order from there again.
Not happy with the beef stew. Was sick the next day after eating it. This l know because👎 the soup was the only meal l had during that day.
I’ve been to this establishment about three times. And each time I’m given a hard time. One woman with a light voice messed up my order and gave me cabbage that I didn’t request, so I told her about it, she then decided to remake my plate. When she remade it and handed it over, I looked at it to see if it was what I asked for this time around. I asked if that was the meat I requested because it looked different, she responded with a nasty attitude and said “obviously”. She messed up my first order so clearly I was just asking to make sure everything was there that I asked for. The second time I came in, I was greeted by this other Jamaican Black lady with fuzzy blonde hair, almost cut into a taper style with dark brown skin. I ordered rice and peas with jerk wings and I requested extra gravy on my rice. She responded back in a nasty tone “I don’t have extra gravy, I have gravy!”, ok fine. Then I went to pay and gave her cash. I decided to use a card instead. I told her I needed the cash back, because I have to go get change from a corner store and use it for something else. She proceeds to tell me I can use my card to get money out of their ATM! Another CUSTOMER tried to intervene and explain to her what the issue was, and she still wanted to give me a HARD TIME! A man came from out of the kitchen which I think may have been Roy. I explained to him what the issue was, he then tried to explain to her. Her response to him was “I know, I’m not stupid!”. If that is her husband, I can only imagine what he deals with at home from her. She’s very nasty!
Meanwhile in Albany for conference, I came looking to support my fellow Jamaicans. I was very happy with the well seasoned food and service. The cashier/server was pleasant and represented the establishment well. Ill be back for the jerk chicken the next time Im in Albany.Tons of parking beside the building.
Ordered Stew Chicken was dry and did not taste fresh. Placed my order at 12p also rice was mushy/overcooked. Was just disappointed Im from the area and havent had Roys in awhile. Will never order again will stick to Hot Spot Jamaican restaurant.
Enjoyed the mobile eatery located near the empire state plaza, weekly.. if you enjoy traditional Caribbean food! Eat at Roys!! Their homemade lemonade is perfect alongside their sweet jerk chicken with brown rice, cabbage and planting all under $20!!! Loved it!!!
Great food but I gave them 4 stars because I bought a pack of cocoa bread it comes with 4 in the pack nd I was charged for 5 they couldve got what I asked for first and charged me accordingly but she said she thinks it comes 5 in a pack charged me first and then went to the back to get it
Listen I love this place my wife turned me on to this place the food is spectacular and its quite cozy inside if u wanted to eat in small but cozy theres only one problem Everytime Ive been here its real busy and Ive only seen one girl that takes the orders and cash people out specially around lunch but even later on during the day you never know it could be booming at anytime long story short get help possibly to make line move faster other then that help situation great place great food

One of the worst experiences with a restaurant... ordered almost $40 worth of food here through grub hub. When went to get my order ( i already paid for it) this restaurant is FILTHY!!!! The floors in the customer area didnt look like they had been mopped or swept in days.. the food warmer right on the counter had dried old food on it.. the glass was NASTY.. but the real part.. a DEAD FLY in the case.. its still winter!!!! The bathroom was out of order .. and the kitchen!! WOW.. food on the floor.. trash sitting right next to a food prep area!! Then the customer service.. or should i say LACK OF!! I stood at the counter for almost 20 minutes while 3 yes 3 employees behind proceeded to bag my READY order in between customers!!! Then on top of it all those wonderful patties and coco bread they sell... out of a package!!! For real???? Save your self the $2 plus tax they charge you and run to the supermarket in the frozen food section and buy a box of 2 for the same price.. the brand is carribean food delights!! The state needs to shut down this rat hole!!!!!

Worst food ever she rushed you to order the patties are nasty everyone of them hard and just nasty. The food is barely enough for a growing child. be careful theres a STANDARD AMOUNT PER THE OWNER THEY GIVE YOU A CUP OF RIC6A SOOPFUL AND A HALF IF CABBAGE AND EXACTLY 4 OXTAILS.. Honestly food was ok but the owners werent even on time to their own restaurant and they had no plantains! People want plaintains at a Jamaican restaurant! They need to plan ahead or come in earlier! People were waiting outside the door for the owners to open up! That is not cool!

The young female is very nice, but the older lady is rude as hell, its like you did something to her soon you walk in.The food is worth the price even though they prices is $2 more than all the rest of the jamican spot, and I dont like for the fact that their oxtail always have too much oil in the bottom of the rice.
The jerk chicken is out of this world, even the cabbage and rice/beans is great. You will be clearing your plate if you like good carribean/Spanish food. Dont be put off by the location this is a must try.

Depends who is cooking. On a Friday, went and got some chicken soup which was amazing. Went back on Sunday, it was awful and full of vinegar. Depends on who is cooking. Overall, the customer service is outstanding!

I wish I could give 0 starts,the customer service was HORRIBLE!the girl had a nasty attitude!we walked in & no hello how are you NOTHING!the serving size was entirely too small I paid 17 dollars and change for a small plate of oxtails and a “side of plantains”no kidding,it was only about 5 pieces!i will NEVER eat here again!customer service is KEY!and theirs is non existent!i asked if it was possible for me to get a large instead because like I said,the serving size was too small,but instead of being a bi**h about it I politely asked her to get a bigger size AND to pay the difference,her response was “well,I don’t know how to do refunds so I wouldn’t be able to do that.”ok?you can’t do the math & tell me the difference in price?what a joke!never again,I’ll stick to DIAMONDS FOOD HOUSE in Schenectady,customer service is ALWAYS amazing & serving size is NEVER an issue,I’m sorry,I refuse to pay for attitude & poor measurement🤗

On a Friday the Schenectady Roys closed at 10pm . went to Albany roys they it was 10:49 they said there closed very disrespectfully . i explained to them what there website times where and they need to follow or changed them. I have never eaten any food prepared by RCR. That is not a biggie or excitement. It was mostly, by not being aware of there quality of food. Although, I have eaten Caribbean food before and found it quite tastyI attended the 2014 African American Day celebration. I ventured out of my safety. I step forward. I tried the Macaroni and cheese prepared by Roys Caribbean Restaurant (RCR). It was the NASTIEST food I ever ate. AND it certainly did not taste like MACARONI and CHEESE. It was a yellow macaroni and some yellow stringy substance that did not look or taste like cheese There was no taste, no flavor and no passion. It tasted like something made on the spare of the moment, to SALE to people to take their MONEY.Curry/saffron is a yellow coloring used in many Caribbean foods. It turns white or yellow macaroni yellower. It has no taste. It is not even a seasoning.Having grown up on Macaroni and Cheese, I know what real Macaroni and cheese taste and look like.This is a delicious African American dish. I am sorry RCR is serving and sailing an impostor food. Roy has truly miss the boat on what Macaroni and cheese taste, look, and has the flavor of.I cant speak for the other foods listed on their menu but I will speak for this one. Buyer beware.

Usually my goto spot for Jamaican Cuisine in the Albany area being that everyone else usually are disappointing but pricey...but tonights experience changes that...went there to get my usual, oxtails with rice and peas but 1 hour and 40 minutes before they close, they apparently ran out rice and peas but then charge you the same price for the oxtails with WHITE RICE...so all they had was white rice...just be prepared for disappointment anytime you walk into most of these so called Jamaican restaurants...No one beats NYC...

Roys used to be amazing. Its defintiely not bad, but its not up to par with how it used to be. If youve never had their old stuff, youll love it now.

2022-04-12First of all this place is super expensive and the food isn’t that great. I ordered fish and got the wrong order so I went back. The little girl that works the front with the braids was very rude! Like if I’m patronizing you’re establishment you should be all smiles. This is why I don’t support black owned businesses. The service SUCKS! she was obviously bothered when I made a complaint about receiving the wrong order. She threw by food at me and I still said thank you. When she turned her back and didn’t respond I said thank you again and she goes “ yup” . NEVER AGAIN. I’d rather support non black businesses where I’m respected . With the bathroom that’s been out of order for 50 years oh and the food is HORRIBLE . Worst customer service ever!!!!

2022-03-31Very good oxtail spot. However I came here twice so far and meat texture was different, it was tougher to chew than the first time. I personally prefer it when its soft and tinder. But other wise this is a good spot for real homemade carribean food.

2022-06-16Never go here on your lunch break. You’ll never get food. Their so slow and their prices went up. They don’t accept orders over the phone for pick up. Just terrible

2022-03-22Rudest staff in America don’t know how they got 4 stars . I can’t explain how rude they are consistently. The food is good but who cares when you are this unprofessional. I recommend you go anywhere but there. A lot of the locals know this and stay far away. Rude Boys foreal!!!

2022-01-29On 1/27/22 I came to this restaurant to purchase food. If I can give them ZERO stars I most definitely would. First of all the food is way to EXPENSIVE! I spent almost $100 for oxtails, Rasta pasta with shrimp, and a few other things. The oxtails are $25! (They only offer 1 size). This was my first time here and I will NEVER be going back! The food was HORRIBLE and uneatable. The oxtails were HARD HARD HARD! The Rasta pasta which had shrimp in it Was VERY BLAND. It tasted it like it was RUSHED! NO seasoning at all .. then to top it all off they forgot my plantains so I had to wind up going back to the store. Then I get back home and realized they forgot a order of macaroni and cheese that I ordered. At this point I wasnt going back ! I came to Albany from out of town to visit and this restaurant was a HORRIBLE experience to say the least. Theres a old Jamaican lady that works there thats VERY RUDE AND NASTY AND DISRESPECTFUL. HORRIBLE ATTITUDE. this worker was arguing with a lady which was a customer like myself while I was waiting for my food. The FOOD IS NASTY! PRICES ARE HIGH AND AGAIN THE FOOD IS NASTY! AND THE WORKER WAS ABSOLUTELY UNPROFESSIONAL. When a person comes in to your establishment to spend $$ with you, being HUMBLE is key ! I CANT SUPPORT A BUSINESS LIKE THIS EVER!! THE WORKERS NEED CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING AND FIRE YOUR COOK 😒

2022-03-02I absolutely love this restaurant. Whenever Im in Albany working, this is my go to spot for lunch and dinner. Very friendly atmosphere, and mouth watering ox tail dinners.

2022-03-23The staff is slow and not friendly at all with the exception of one young lady I had the pleasure of speaking to. I ordered 2 fish fries to go. When I got home I unwrapped them to discover they were overcooked.

2022-04-10You cant call for orders. Food isnt always available, and the prices are steep, but if you get past this....the food is tasty.
