Great Jamaican food, though a little spare on atmosphere. The restaurant is essentially a large sports bar, where you order at the front counter, but the staff are friendly and attentive, and the food is great. I recommend the curried goat, with rice and peas, and fried plantains and the oxtail is also excellent. Dinner for two runs about $50, with a cocktail before dinner, and is well worth it. The last time I was there I watched a cricket match between Barbados and Guyana, and it gave the place the genuine feel of the Caribbean.
Literally EVERY SINGLE TIME I come here (which I no longer will ) the employees are beyond unprofessional!!!! They close early everyday and never answer the phone and the food isn’t consistently good. I understand if business is slow you have to close but if someone is calling the store wouldn’t you say we closed early instead of having that person drive over to closed doors? They never answer even if they have made to order food items on the menu so if u want shrimp u can’t call you have to just go there and wait 20 minutes! Terrible terrible service!!!! I hope someone in management doe something about this because I was a very loyal customer when I was able to get shrimp the past 4/5 visits I’m not even able to get shrimp and it’s 2 hours before closing it ridiculous especially since that’s an expensive meal !
Hey Roy’s I thought Jamaican jerk chicken it’s supposed to be grilled? food is OK but really disappointed in the jerk chicken
The food is awsome. I had the oxtails with rice and peas. The rice was cooked very well and the oxtails were a little tough but they were full of flavor. I give them 4 stars because the service was very fast and the food was awsome. I take one star away because of menu choices. A lot of items were sold out by dinner time, and they do not serve Roti.
The Jerk Chicken is really good; although it baked and not grilled. The Plantains are amazing even though they are soft and not crispy. The Mac&Cheese is just that ( Macaroni and cheese); no seasoning nor is it baked. The Mac is more for children it kind of resembles the boxed product with baked cheese on top(I don’t recommend ordering it). The Curry Goat is great.
Nice staff here. I am a Grubhub driver and I see them every so often, today I got to try some of the food due to a mixup with my customer. Hed ordered oxtail with plantains and rice. It was so delicious, I see why it is so popular with our customers.
Chicken soup has chicken in it unless you order it from here. Wheres my chicken? Smh. The food here is not Jamaica it taste like Indian food. Please get a Jamaica cook. This place is tarnishing Roys legecy. The food at the Albany location is still great. We love the Albany location they still have real Jamaica food.

Ordered for group of 6 from grubhub. they cheaped out on the plantains---forgot some plantains on some and the portion is so small for the price. Better jamacian places elsewhere. Do not recommend for union college staff and students
This was the 1st time going into Roys that we left our food orders were not correct and then got home and our side of mac n cheese we had paid for was missing. Never ever had this problem before at Roys. Hope it was just this once
I’ve only ever tried the jerk chicken from Roy’s but I will admit out of all the restaurants I’ve been to for jerk chicken, Roy’s jerk chicken is the best thus far. I would also like to say that this place does take a long time for you to get your order but as long as the jerk chicken is this good, to me it’s worth the wait!
I didnt like most of the Food I ate being Authentic Jamaican food I would think it has allot of Taste but very Tasteless the Akee & Salfish was Extremely Oily you need better Cooks!
I REMEMBER THE DAY ROY OPENED IN ALBANY BACK IN THE EARLY 80S.Ive purchased the stew chicken from Roys in the past year. I dont know whos cooking it now, but they need get out of the kitchen🤮... IJS

Food is good on certain visits. Not to good the last few times. Oxtails overcooked, and to much rice and to little oxtails and sometimes a plate of bones.

Hair in my soup. Guy spitting in garbage can next to food prepwhile getting food ready. Very slow called ordered food waited 20 minutes still took 15 more minutes after I got there.

Good food but jerk chicken way too hot, how you expect other nationality to eat it besides individuals from the Caribbean. You guys need to make a regular jerk chicken/mild.

They never serve you what you order. You order Oxtail with Rice and Peas. They serve you Chicken Currie with Rice and zpeas
By far the worst oxtails Ive ever had I ordered a large plate of oxtails paid close to $15 for the order was given three small oxtails a whole bunch of rice and raw cabbage save your money and go somewhere else I truly think they take advantage of the fact that theres not a lot of West Indian and Caribbean restaurants in the area
They are very rude and claim they never have any orders I ask for, needs better customer service or needs to be shut down !

2019-04-14Ive never had issues with Roys until now. The food I ordered was a little dry but still good. Now the mac & cheese, was absolutely disgusting. As soon as I looked at it, I thought it had to be boxed mac & cheese. It had no flavor, tasted spoiled & tasted like vomit. This should never leave a JAMAICAN restaurant. Unacceptable, & I feel disrespected. Never again!!

2021-03-23Cabbage good but macaroni and cheese pretty bad . then I dont eat meat and the young lady had meat on top of lid of cabbage. But the nice girl (Guyanese) went and got me cabbage from back . the other girl really sweet too just have to be careful some people that dont eat meat keep meat away from meatless items but good place

2020-06-02The establishment is clean plenty of space if you want to bring a group the food is well seasoned & good but, the wait is much too long even before Covid-19 pandemic. There should be a person who is strictly responsible for taking orders & payments. Then they should have at least 2 people to bag the orders & bring them to the front. I have seen many people leave because the wait is too long. If they bring in a couple of people, the service will be quicker. The 2 stars is for the service!
