Ruchi in New York
Ruchi in other cities:
Our company ordered a big lunch to celebrate Diwali. I ordered almost $300 of various food items for everyone to try out and share. Everything was delicious, they even threw in a few complimentary desserts! Overall a delicious meal, I hope my boss lets us order from Ruchi again
That is the worst indian food I’ve ever had. The chicken is very dry, it was not cooked in the sauce. A person that made the cheese naan, probably has never seen a cheese naan before. Very bad experience, I spent $30 on a meal and I can’t eat it. I’m very disappointed.
Fantastic Indian food a stones throw from the 9/11 memorial and museum. Every curry has a distinct and authentic flavor (we had saag paneer, Chana masala, Kadhai chicken and paneer makhni) and the portions are generous. Service is fast and attentive- a great choice for a quick lunch. Try the bread basket for a nice assortment. We will be back!
Worst food ever! We ordered veg kabab, ghee masala dosa and veggie uttapam. Kabab was hell spicy and the binding was zero. Ghee masala dosa has such a weird taste, either it was stale or prepared with non-veg food. Dint eat more than a bite and left as it is! Same story with uttapam. Owner gave us 50% off on our entire bill (our total bill was ~$45). Still we ended up paying ~$23 for the food which we have not eaten even! Owner was not at all feeling apologetic for this and shamelessly charged half price!
The place is cramped old fashioned eating house and not so clean . While a couple of staff were courteous and receptive , the others werent . Food was okay but pricey and the bill had an uninformed gratuity amount of close to Five Dollars included for a 25 Dollar amount . This normally is done only when the number of persons is more than four .. definitely not the one to recommend
A poorly maintained place with tasteless food and implicit chargesVisited this place on March 2 - and the ambience is not at all Indian, it’s like a Moroccan theme with wannabe Indian backdropsThe food is stale and tasteless. We had ordered paneer pakora and surprisingly it was cooked within 2 mins - that is, it was stale and just re-fried and served; naturally the taste was out of this worldThen came paneer kadai - which did not defer from previous dish - tasteless, Indian dishes have good taste of different spices - and this kadai was very pale in that comparison. The chapatis we ordered with this were harder than stale tandoor rotis!Overall - a no-no to visit this one!
Decent food, helpful service, and timely delivery. I decided to order this for delivery to my hotel during my recent business trip. It was late night when I arrived and the food arrived within 30 minutes and was hot. The naan bread was also warm and made perfectly. The Chicken Tikka Masala was delicious and chicken breast chunks were grilled well. It also came with a side of rice which had saffron. Overall, I liked their quality of food and would order again for the convenience.
Beware, the low prices on the signs outside are only for takeout. Ask questions if youre unsure. Was first customer of the day in an empty store, and the staff was still puzzlingly rude. Took my order back to my hotel and of course it was 100% incorrect. The wrong food they did give me was admittedly edible (except the side salad-pictured), but not half as good as the multitude of food carts on the surrounding block.
Wish I could give this place ZERO stars!!!Worst restaurant, worst food quality and above all rude service & staff. We went to visit WTC sometime back with my family & parents (who were visiting us from India for the 1st time). After a while it was noon and we were all starving. My parents wanted to eat something Indian for lunch and thought we were lucky enough to find an Indian restaurant that was so close by WTC. Waited in a long queue for about half hour before getting in. No one was there to receive or to help find a seat for us. We thought it was ok since it was tiny & crowded. We ordered some food like veg biryani,Naan and some other side dishes. My father ordered poori and mom tried to order Idli which was on the menu card. The waiter said very rudely “we don’t have idli”. So she said OK I will order Dosa, the waiter again very rudely said NO WE DON’T HAVE ANY KIND OF DOSAS.Whatever mom asked for she said we don’t have this/we don’t have that. Finally mom gave up feeling humiliated(with tears in her eyes)and asked us to order something for her. We wanted to leave immediately but kids & my parents were so exhausted:( At last the menu arrived after 20mins & father got only plain poori for himself with no side dish or any kind of chutney. When asked about this she said IF YOU ORDER POORI YOU WILL GET ONLY POORI,YOU SHOULD HAVE ORDERED THE SIDE DISH SEPARATELY IF YOU WANTED ONE.I mean ARE YOU KIDDING?? WHICH restaurant on this planet gets only poori when you order one without any accompaniment.. DOESN’T THAT SOUND WEIRD????Also like other reviewer said THEY DISCRIMINATE/JUDGE YOU BY YOUR RACE.Their services definitely vary by color/race and we have clearly noticed this difference when they were handling other customers.SO PATHETIC & CHEAP,NEVER RETURNING/RECOMMENDING this place TO ANYONE..absolutely DISGUSTING. If you have self esteem,AVOID this place…they will make sure you feel like junk!
So so happy we found this place on our first trip here to NYC (back in November) The food is insanely good! We are back in town and had to make sure to come back. Not only was the food amazing (again) but when I was explaining to the waitress that my son is moving here to start school she made a point to let him know that if he ever needed anything to just go there and she would look after him. We bonded over having kids in college and she was just so lovely to go out of her way to make sure my son knew he has a friend close by. ( She actually said she remembered him from our previous visit). With all this said, don’t let this story over shadow the fact that the food here in truly amazing!
I dont understand the negative reviews here. Im from Tampa area and found the food and service to be very good. Just be aware its a little spicy if your not used to it so you may want to ask your server to make it mild. The portions were fair size given its bit pricier than usual. We found one curry can easily be shareable by two but would recommend going for two if your appetite allows! I would definitely come here again!
Trust me.... if you are craving good Indian food... try elsewhere. Ordered chicken tikki masala and goat briyani. Chicken tikki masala has too much tomato sauce taste; contained 7 pieces of chicken and a lot of very watery sauce. None of the orders come with salad as I am accustomed to whenever ordering this dish. They also only gave us one plate and one set of utensils when there are clearly two meals being ordered. The goat briyani also didn’t have that licorice/herbs taste. It just felt... cheap.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND this little restaurant! They sit on the corner of Cedar + Greenwich with the towering WORLD TRADE CENTER at the front. The vibe is a very close-knit family feel. The food is DELICIOUS! We ordered pick-up tonight and they made everything perfect! From the super spicy curry chicken ( I asked for the mostest spiceeee), crispy garlic naan, buttery rice, to their flaky samosas - DELISH!Not to mention the portions are great! (I even added some notes in my order for some extra fresh cilantro and got it!)Give this place a try. And in these times of the Big Bad C.... lets support our neighborhood restaurants.Cheers! :)
From my experience while dining in this place, I rate it of 3/5 stars. The main aspect Ive experienced was the unwelcoming behavior of the waiter that was in charge of my persona. Once I entered the restaurant, a comfortable setting with quiet calm music instantly created a feeling of home - like comfort. The interior is unique, with a lot of soft spectrum lights and designs focus on the theme, which is indian kitchen. As a fan of warm drinks, my first question was do they serve tea, and waitress responded with another question if I only planned to order a tea, which creates a little impression of tension. When I confirmed that I would like tea only, waitress told me that tea is only for takeout which confirmed me being in a unwelcoming and uncomfortable situation, leading me to order something to actually be able to stay in restaurant. I ordered lam cubes and it was pretty delicious, price was satisfying. Other waiters were kind and smiles were fixing the fist mood Ive faced. I was served with a usual tea (tea bag) and to be honest, expected more from their tea menu then Lipton tea bag with hot water.Even tho it was cold outside, the inside temperature was nice and that was pretty nice comparing to other cafes around that area. So overall I rate this place as 3/5.I recommend visiting it if you would like to try Indian dish in a comfortable setting. Enjoy.
Outside we have seen eye catcher with a titel „50% of lunch“. We ordered some food, which wasn’t really the best. Didn’t taste at all. At the end the surprise the check had the full prices without discount. After we have asked to correct it, the waiter has told us that we had to order special dishes where we would pay like 40/50$ to receive the discount on the main dishes. Absolutely SCAM!!! Take care guys.
Nice restaurant with a good taste of Indian food. A little costly on the purse ; portions quite small too.The couple sitting at our neighboring table had few pieces of glasses in their Biryani!! Scary ... It was handled well with a sincere apology and they not having to pay for the meal ! There are glasses hanging around for decorative purposes. One certainly doesnt expect few pieces of those in your food.
This place is fantastic. Food was delicious, price was good, and service was very fast. The atmosphere and decor is nice as well. My husband wants to come back for round 2 before we leave the city!We ordered the veggie samosas and chicken tikka masala, both of which were fantastic!
Professional staff, polite and kind people. Always attentive, such a bright vibe of energy. The chefs take their time with the dishes so prepare to wait however very worth it. Highly recommend to people who are looking for an authentic indian restaurant in the WTC area (which is difficult to rival)
Decent Indian food, but the quantity is a compromise. Also, servers arent great with recommending vegetarian options, so pick what you like. Paneer entrees are good and so are the appetizers. Overall, the food was definitely better than expected. The ambience isnt great, furniture is old, tables were wobbling when I visited the place last week. Location is great, especially if you are looking for Indian food near World trade Centre :)
The prices are on point for the area. Its a small restaurant but Indian food tends to maintain a small dedicated crowd. The food was absolutely terrific. The people are delightfully polite. My overall experience was very positive and I would be sure to go back . FYI the vindaloo is SPICY. They gave fair warning about it but it was so worth it!
I wanted to try some Indian Cuisine in NY city and i went to this place. I am very disappointed with the quality of the food . I have ordered a veg curry and it turns out to be that the chef is not interested in cutting the vegetables also properly, I wonder if the owner of Ruchi has ever eaten in his restaurant. I highly recommend everyone reading this post to not go there even if they offer a 95% discount as there is no point in eating tasteless , not worth your time spending in such places. I wanted to make sure i write this review as i dont want anyone else to feel the same way. DONT GO OR RECOMMEND ANYONE, YOU CAN GO BUT THE NEXT PATHETIC REVIEW WOULD BE YOURS ABOUT THIS PLACE.
One of the best places to have Indian food in downtown Manhattan. They offer really good service and the food is awesome. The place is suitable for both office workers and tourists and offers great ambience and food and drink options.Being in downtown Manhattan, the place is a little cramped up which maybe the only downside for claustrophobic people.
Great mid-priced lunch option for the area (and there are not a lot). Consistently good Indian food with different curries selection. Have yet to try one that wasnt tasty. Attentive staff. My only complaint is that the place will get very busy by 12:15, so try to get there a bit earlier.
The two stars are mainly because staff was nice, even though it seemed a bit pretentious. We were asked as soon as we sat down if we knew what we wanted because there supposedly two minutes left on the happy hour half off time. Nonetheless, the food definitely sucked.! The containers were held with a hand above the food to be served, there was a hair on my plate, there was lint rolling going on by the cashier which is basically the dining area. They had a grade pending. The mango beverage was basically yoghurt, could not finish it just as I couldnt finish my food. Even the naan wasnt that good, heavy hands with the garlic. Had this not been a half off meal, it would have been one star. Decor is cultural which was nice.
Great Indian food in FiDi, arguably the best in FiDi, but my knowledge of Indian food spots in the area is pretty limited. There is always a decent lunch crowd, but you can usually get a table within ten minutes or less. The lunch specials are very nicely valued. Whether you’re getting chicken tiki masala or crab soup, you can expect to be pretty full by the end of your meal. Don’t forget to get some naan and rice, most of the lunch specials don’t come with these items. They also serve some imported Indian beers which is nice.I’ve been here several times now and I have never been disappointed. One thing to note: the restaurant itself is pretty small, so it can feel little crowded at times, also, try to avoid sitting by the door in the colder seasons.
Restaurant is small and occupies maximum 30 people. Staff was not friendly and Customer service was not good at all. Dishes were tasty and quantity was just OK. I felt prices are little high, might be because of location. Plenty of vegetarian options available. If you are with kids then avoid visiting the restaurant because after serving food they want you to finish it as soon as possible, which is really tough if you are with kids :( (we spent around 25-30 minutes in restaurant).
Went to Ruchi at lunch time and the little place was filled up and noisy. Although we got on a short line we were seating very quicklyStar 1. Great service and we never felt rushed. We had a lovely waitress whose name I forget but she was attentive and friendly and helpful with the menu, to these first time visitors. Was windy and cold so I started with an order of Chai tea. Star2 It was perfect. Just the right heat just the right sweet just so yummy myCompanion tasted it and ordered it too. Star 3. is devoted to our food. We started with a veggie Bhajia, chickpea batter fried veggies which I enjoyed very much with the2 sauces one spicy one Sweet. For my lunch entre I had the coconut shrimp curry. Sauce was a little boring but shrimp were fresh andPlump. In the end I mopped my plate clean with the garlic Nan. 😊 My companion had the chicken makhani which had a wonderfully robust and flavorful red sauce. We did get someSaffron Rice which added to our delight and Left us both quite Full. Star 4, The Price was quite reasonable for New York City as they offer a 50% off weekday lunch menu. The missing star has little to do with food service or price for the restaurant or anything that anyone can control but for the readers it is loud and one must pay close attention to your companion to engage in a conversation when this little decorative place is full.
Went to this place casually for dinner with my parents who were visiting me from India and had a horrible experience. My dad is 60 years old and a severe diabetic patient who has to take insulin injection on his belly right before every meal and he was discreetly doing it on his chair when the waiter came to me. Instead of speaking to my dad, he ignored him (as if he was an old, stupid man) and told me that this is not allowed in the restaurant and that he has to do it in the restroom. I have never faced any such thing in any restaurant across the world ever before, even not in the way better ones. On top of that, this restaurant (probably because they dont get enough tips because of their unfriendly behavior) automatically includes a $10.83 tip on the bill without informing you and before taking your permission. So, I basically ended up paying this amount as a tip even when I was not at all happy with their service. I spoke to a couple of NYPD officers across the street regarding this matter and they mentioned that this was my only recourse to share my experience on the review because this was a civil matter and a cheap move by the restaurant.Even the food of this restaurant was not that great. So I would recommend that you AVOID this place if you can!!!
I was at the restaurant with my family. This restaurant has an advertisement as 50% off. When I finished lunch, I got the bill without any discount. When asked, I was told that I should have ordered an entree per head to get the discount. Its not that I was looking for discount, but their attitude was pathetic. All the servers and manager him self had so rude behavior. It was so embarrassing situation. I am definitely going to advise all my known ones adversely about this restaurant. No respect for customer is last thing you can do as a business owner.
We had lunch today at Ruchi and it was probably the worst Indian meal we ever had in the city. To begin with, the plates that the server brought were dirty and broken, yes broken. I pointed that out and she got another plate and guess what, they were broken too.We tried to ignore hoping that the food would compensate for the crockeries but we were in for more disappointment as the food served was terrible. The veg bhajiya was coloured to boood red and they were super oily and seemed like they were cooked earlier and double fried upon order. Then came chicken tikka, believe me it was cold af, the onions that came with it were almost stale and the plate was dirty. Then came paneer Kadhai which was basically paneer floating in oil, the garlic nan were burnt. The entire experience was dreadful. The server didn’t bother coming in even once as she was busy checking in with their home customer or whatever. I’d not recommend the place as for that money, you can have amazing lunch at a much better place and ambience.
I went solo for dinner while in the area. I was happy with the food and service. They have an expansive menu, two regions of Indian food. I got the seven piece vegetarian dinner and it was great, I skipped the rice pudding. They should get rid of those tacky signs in front, They belie the good cooking.
I just discovered this awesome spot, their aloo chaat is honestly the best Ive had in a LONG time and definitely the best in this area. The pricing is great, the service is awesome and Im blown away by the tandoori mushrooms. Highly recommend this place for authentic Indian flavor!
Don’t ask me why but I’m obsessed with Indian food and my love extends to other cuisines that are related to or influenced by Indian food. Unfortunately there aren’t many options in the financial district so even I wouldn’t consider this restaurant top notch, I’m still grateful that it’s just walking distance from my office. Lunch special is a good deal.
First of all, the high rated reviews here are all fake and they are created by the restaurant itself to attract the crowd! This is the worst restaurant I have ever been to. Either they don’t know what is chapati or they are purposely making the worst food to torture the customers! I got stomach pain after eating that chapati. It was so thick like the pizza crust and was not baked properly. The cost is too high and they add 18% service charge without notifying us.The staff is very rude and unfriendly! They judge the customers and randomly add different service charges to different people. There’s a guy at the reception. I’m not sure if he’s the manager or the owner. He shows lotof attitude and disrespect to Indian customers. No greeting when we arrived, no response if we call him for some order and rude replies if we ask some information. His face looks like he is been constipated from long time! No point in going to this restaurant and making fool out of yourself. So please don’t go to this restaurant ever and beware of it!
Do NOT go to this restaurant.!! They will judge you by your Race!!The servers and management are pathetic. As we sat on the table, before even taking the order, the waiter said that they have 18% mandatory gratuity and later took the order. As we were eating our food, 2 other groups came in to dine and they didn’t do the same with them and happily started serving them without notifying them of gratuity.I knew on the spot why they did such thing and straight away went and questioned the manager and he realized what he did and he had no answers. It’s an Indian restaurant but they don’t respect Indian customers.SHAME!
We went to this place last week and ordered tandoori mushrooms, kebabs and 2 plates of vegetables biriyani. The kebabs tasted good but the tandoori mushrooms and biriyani were bland and oily and also the veggies in the biriyani were half boiled, we had placed our order by saying that it should be less oily, but that never happened. Upon saying the same thing to the restaurant authorities they took off one of the biriyani plates from our table without even replacing the food and by justifying themselves saying that the veggies they used were frozen .bad experience, bad management. Really disappointed!!!
Not a great restaurant. South Indians pls stay away. Food is not good. Also even we did reserve the table, we were given table after 20-25 minutes. Like others said, they should improve on service guys. They just have 2 to 3 service people for the whole restaurant. Also those service guys were keen arranging their racks with plates/spoons/glasses instead of serving the customers. They should also improve their seat/table management.
Looks like there is always waiting. I ordered vegetable Biryani. It is good. Quantity is less for the price. Owner might say its NY😁.For those who are first time can walk towards Broadway street, just 200 ft from this place you will find great Indian and Pakistani street food for less price. Exactly opp one liberty plaza.
Ive eaten here 3 times and have enjoyed my meal each time. Its small and dimly lit, but the food is very tasty. Ive enjoyed the Vindaloo and Fish Curry. They dont have a liquor license, so if you want a drink you can take a bottle of wine.Service was a little slow even though at dinner there were hardly any customers at tables.
I really wanted to like it, but I just couldnt. The chicken tikka masala didnt taste like what I was expecting at all; I think the chicken might have also been a bit chewy. Naan is very thick and bready. I ended up throwing away the majority of my rather expensive dinner (I did takeout) because it was just not pleasant to eat.
Great location and such a cozy place! It is a small place but the interior is very cozy and warm. The food was also great. We ordered paneer kadhai, Malai kofta, vegetable biryani and naan. And all of it was great! Though the quantity of food might not be the most generous, the quality was great. The location is close to the world trade center and you can see the one world center through the window while dining, which is great. The staff was nice as well.
Can I give a negative rating? Gratuity tip was added by default in the bill. I dont think any customer will walk out without the tip. This was a serious insult on us. The food was below average and tastes like made out of instant mix. If otherwise I would be happy to have a kitchen visit. The place is too cramped and the waitress got no clue about how to seat the guests !
False advertisement. Lunch special says 50% off the menu. Turns out they have a different lunch menu thats identical to the dinner menu but way more expensive. What kind of place has lunch prices 40% higher than dinner prices for the SAME items!!! So the 50% percent off lunch special is just a scam.Food tastes okay. Not authentic but decent. Managing staff is very rude. Tip added to bill even for a party of two.
Worst experience ever - avoid this place. My seamless order was OLD food - all of it. Felt sick almost as soon as i ate one spoon. Called the restaurant - spoke to the manager who said “ Food’s never fresh in nyc, it comes from the fridge, we serve the same in the restaurant !” He refused to say sorry or offer something else in return. What’s shocking is that they are serving old food in the restaurant. Too bad as at one time they had decent food. Maybe the management has changed or the ownership. But avoid this place, we have plenty of choices .
I really enjoyed the dosa. It had potatoes and spicy peppers in it. I couldnt eat it all. The wait staff was very helpful. They have a restroom for customer use. This is a small place, seating about 25. They have naan, paneer and tandoori, as well there. The staff were accommodating to my wifes special requests, which I appreciated. The food did not take long to arrive, but it was not particularly quick. Just to note if you are in a big hurry. The dinning area has many beautiful glass lamps that hang from the ceiling. They make this place special.
Not satisfied with food taste. Surprisingly they have concept of count of items to be ordered based on the no of people on table.. we were 4 with 1 kid of it still it is required that you order minimum 2 sabjis. Also only 2 of us were hungry of remaining 3. So i feel it very surprising. Also the way the service guys were responding was not satisfactory
Spoilt food, had some smell, got throat infection to all my 3 friends who ate here as well....Guess shouldve avoided it. Not a good taste either, plain food, neither tasty nor a great presentation. My South Indian Bros will be hugely disappointed as its zero spicy as well.... Please avoid this place.
Worst food I ever had in USA, not sure if that was because we were the last customers but except one chicken dish nothing was that good. Soup was worst. It felt me like vomiting after having it. Customer service is very bad, they dont care at all. They made us to wait more than 45 minutes to serve us. Within that period they didnt even came to tell us if we need something. All customers left and we were thinking whether they will serve us or will say sorry. Then I went and asked about why its getting delayed, then she said it should have already served .she went to check inside and went back to her counter without telling us anything. Not sure if there was some confusion or not.
Worst food ever had in my life so far. complete wastage of money. I ordered daal, and it had no taste. Moreover it was cold. the paneer tikka was only covered with and food color and was very less in quantity. totally disappointed. would never recommend anyone to come here..
I believe greatly in Indian hospitality and ruchis service staff is really helpful and humble. But I believe more in the power of great food that can change the perspective towards restaurants. And ruchis chef is pure evil and needs to check his attitude along with his cooking skills. I found the food stale and reported it back to the kitchen. With a very disrespectful unacceptable response from the chef. We refused to eat the food and ordered for our check and paid not a small amount of 23$ as the staff wasnt shamefully enough to not charge us for not eating stale food. Well ordinaryly this can be ignored but I rather ask people to keep this restaurant at bay to avoid stomach bugs. This act of unkindness at an Indian restaurant is extremely bothersome as Indian food is all about love and sharing it. Perhaps the chef will change his attitude towards customer service after this.

Staff is so rude, despite of worst service, unsatisfied food quality, they dont hesitate to demand full tip, and argue with you... lol... not only experienced by me, but by 2 more desappointed families. dont try at all... very small space, rude staff, not at all cooperative. chapati means a very thick not properly roasted roti... same curry paste is used across all subzis. one should not try, who really want to try authentic indian food.
Food is excellent, owner was very accommodating at first when we were trying to get seats but as soon as lunch hour started, they kept mentioning that our table was reserved and was trying to hurry us to finish eating. Really loved the food but maybe they should get a bigger space so they don’t have to shoo away their eating and seated customers.
Great food at this tiny spot. However, prices are a little high for portion size (50% off at lunch, though) and the staff and confused during our visit, mixing up checks and food orders between tables. That said, they were bored number 1 on grub hub for their Tikka Masala, and it is well deserved. I would go here again.
Very expensive food. For a part of 3, Ruchi added a gratuity/tip in the bill itself. The quantity wasnt great. Also, when asked my warm water instead of cold one, the waiter was rude and argued. On insisting, the server obliged to provide lukewarm water.Dont go there unless you are really really hungry.
NEGATIVE ZERO rating for the place! Emma was RUDE and ridiculous in serving us. We ordered 3 teas and 3 parathas and we were told we couldnt be seated because that order wasnt enough to be seated. Secondly, we were given tea without sugar, when asked for sugar we were told they only have sugar substitutes like Splenda available and no sugar period! I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone. So rude and definitely not worth the money.
I used to eat here a lot. The food is pretty tasty, plenty of spices and reasonable serving portions. there arent that many Indian places in lower Manhattan so this is probably a decent enough choice. My main reason not to go any more is the C food hygiene rating that they earned themselves.
I tried this place because of a deal and LOVED it. It was decently priced and authentic. I got the chicken tickki marsala and was very happy with it. I also liked that their staff was polite and attentive - even after finding out I had a coupon lol. My only complaint is their metal chalices they use to serve water in. Some of them were rusty and made the water taste like metal. Bottom-line I am definitely coming back here again!
Too bad customer service and i dont think if this is gonna continue the shop will hv to shut down shortly. I would rate a zero or may be negative star if it was an option.Day 1.I ordered for chappati and chilli chicken. They played their marketing tactics and told me that wont be enough for the chappatis i ordered. Fine, so i ordered for daal in extra. They are supposed to provide free delivery, but the lady told they cant. Ok fine again.i thought i will go get it as my lil boy was very hungry and is bit uncomfortable in dim lighted restaurants esp if its crowded. Then they ask for my name, and my phone number. I dont have a US number, being a tourist and my personal number is on roaming and so i dont want to get charged. So i gave my name and the address of the hotel i stay in and room number. She was not convinced and disconnected the call.I called again and a guy too this time. He was ok with my address and took my order. What a relief!! And that happened instead of chappatis they gave roti. Unfortunately i checked it only after i reached home.I called in if they could correct the order and being their mistake too could they deliver at my room. They declined. I hv good patience so i went back.Believe me, its not of any revenge or anything, their chappatis were very bland, no salt, quite thick and most of them undercooked. And just 1 curry was quite enough for my first order. So we couldnt finish it off and had to throw the rest away. (I dont like wasting food or money, so was quite disappointed altogether).Day 2.I dont know y i tried to order again. May be i was craving for dosa. Couldnt help calling em. This time the same thing repeats. The lady was so stubborn that she want me to give a phone number, when i hesitated, she asked me for my credit card number. What!!!That was it i cancelled my order and am never going to order there again. Never ever!!!I would rather discourage my friends and families from eating here.
Restaurant is all good in terms of food and taste but they play horrible SAD music, as in, entire restaurant staff is going through some broken heart pain.I requested them to change the music, as an option one of their young staff asked me are you preferring to listen SAD music... Common guys... who the hell would come to NYC to listen SAD songs and that too when you are having your food!!!
Very good food, reasonably priced especially for the area. Service is good, never pushy or rushing you out the door. The space is tight though and probably not good for more than 4 people. The place is busy at lunch time so there could be a wait. Not much room to wait inside so you will likely have to wait outsise.
Cons- Lying advertisement - said 50% off, but items were not covered under it- Average to below average food. Lacks taste. Very excessive use of artificial color- Cramped- Definitely expensive for the quality of food- Gratuity is automatically included in bill. Given the service I got, I wouldnt have given a penny of tip!Pros- Friendly staff
Unfortunately google reviews has no option to give no stars! I suggest that edit to Google! We went there today for lunch, in this restaurant located a couple of feet’s distance from 9/11 memorial. Indian restaurant In such a prime location! We ordered Sweet Corn chicken soup and Kadai Paneer and Garlic naan. The only item edible was a glass of water! If you compete for sourness between a rotten lemon and the sweet corn soup, the soup wins hands down! The kadai paneer should be Renamed to Tangy Tomato paneer!!I wish to see this place on Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares!!
Waited 30 mins for the food to arrive, the naan served was burnt. The portions are very small and the prices are very high. We decided not to give tip due to bad experience but the server already added it to the bill saying it is mandatory. The ambience also was not good.
Food was great. Ambience wasnt that good, there were few people there who were talking on the phone, speaking loud and their speaker phone was on. Who wants to listen to their conversation when you are out there for dinner with family! Oh, pay attention to the service charge they include in the bill for you.
Arrogance , made us to move out telling that its a so called crowded restaurant when there were hardly anyone sitting even though we had old age parents with us. Why dont you put up a board outside that you need to have a minimum order for whatever amount to have a seat inside ...plus your waiter gives a smile while cancelling the order .only visit if you want to get fooled
Excellent indian food in a city which claims to have a lot of good indian restaurants but doesnt really. Try the tandoori prawns and mutton kali mirchi - both are excellent. Also they have a beer - Old Monk- which is a rum brand in India, but the beer was pretty good.
Dont expect service in this hole in the wall place! We got seated by the window, sun beating down on our backs when we asked for blinds to be lowered or curtain pulled (both available), we were told to deal with the heat! After arguing for a while, I did get a table change. Food is expensive and not that great. They CHEAT you with the 50% off, it only applies if every single person in your party gets one entree. Gratuity is already billed, no choice! Perhaps they know no one will pay for the pathetic service, so they direct bill it.
For me its okay place but compare to other Indian places they servs Good amount of quantity for each plate, people who like nice spicies this place has in thier food, no volunteer tip they just take out what it seems appropriate, (we were 7) good service, good old decors
2 adults and a 3 year old during lunch. Only gave us 2 cups of water. Asked for another.. never got it. Gave our order including a soup. Soup never came.. because order was not written down. Had to ask for another utensil set because we only had two on the table. Were they assuming the 3 yr old is not eating? Also asked if anything we had has nuts in it they say no.. but then my kid broke out in a rash the way he does with nuts.. so their utensils or cooking apparatus must be contaminated with nuts. Not blaming the restaurant for the last complaint. I shouldnt have brought my nut sensitive kid to eat Indian food... though hes had Indian food before and he was fine.
I wish there is a minus star as this food was absolutely atrocious, idk how people have found this place nice but it was a HUGEEE disappointment. The taste was less than mediocre, hygiene didn’t exist (the water had dirt in it) and the food was most definitely over priced. The customer service isn’t any better too. Would NEVER recommend this to someone who has an actual idea about what good food tastes like, cause this aint it! 😑
It was raining heavily and I was really hungry craving for some north Indian food and Ruchi was just a block away from the Charging Bull! I had jeera rice and dal makkani and some papad(didnt order any subzi as I went to eat there alone. The dal quantity was more than enough lol). Although its a bit expensive, it totally worth it!
Decent lunch spot near Ground Zero. DIne-in lunch is always 50% off, but you still have to order rice/naan separately. I got the lamb Pasada, which was flavorful; the only thing to complain about is the portion size. Menu prices for the entrees average $14-16 before discount. Not a bad choice if youre doing touristy stuff in the area and want a place to catch your breath and rest before the next stop.
Very tasty, my first foray into Indian food and it was a great success, the seating is tight which is the only reason I dropped a star, its a small place, but the wait is well worth it for the quality of food, the curry chicken is incredible and the mint sauce is a must have on the side if you like a little spice.
This is by far the best Indian food available in the Financial District. I eat lunch here at least once a week. During lunch everything on the menus half price so you can get one dish, rice and a naan for less than $12. Its also a real restaurant with silverware and glasses rather than the usual canteen style places that just slop the food on to styrofoam plates. Saag paneer, malai kofta and the chicken vindaloo are all really good.
One of the best places in Downtown NYC to have North Indian food. I love their paneer bhurji, malai kofta, etc... this is more suited for american taste buds though... my American friends like this place more than I do. Its a decent place to have lunch. After 12:30 pm the place tends to be crowded and getting a table becomes difficult... so we always plan to be there by 12:10 pm sorts for lunch...
Wish I could give less than a star.. first we get in all hungry and whatever we order they say its not available.. we finally finalize on something thats available which happens to be in the appetizers list and they say if its just appetizers they are not going to serve us in the restaurant.. like seriously?? How did they even decide that we are not going to order a main course.. rudeness at its heights..!!
Bad tasting food.... highly pricy .... avoid at any cost... ordered paneer karahi tasted like paneer in onion tomato paste no flavor ... baingan bartha was missing flavor of baingan .... No complimentry rice with entree .... this place used to be my fav in 2010 and 2011 but this place has lost the taste ....

2021-05-11TL;DR: GROSS!! There was hair in the food. Less than one star.Full story: me and my wife went to the restaurant on the weekend. We ordered the Thali for 2. I see that there was hair in the curry half way through the dish. The stuff was like let me replace it. My wife picks up the spoon that was served in the plate the meal came with. There was another hair in her plate too. The staff was like oh let me see and she took the spoon. After her review she says it’s not hair just some strand from clothing. We ordered the check and wanted to get out as soon as possible. She gave us 15% off of the total amount. As we are leaving she asks if we want to take anything. I said no. She should have been able to read the room that we weren’t comfortable with the unclean food they served to us. We just wanted to pay and get out. The worst part is the reaction like nothing happened. I don’t know how they stay open like this.Word to the owner: just clean your dishes. Make your staff wear head gear like hair nets. Just improve the general code for cleanliness it is good for both you and the customers.

2017-12-13This is a marvelous find downtown. The lunch special pricing of 50% off of the main rices cant be beat. The food is authentic and taste great. The restaurant is a bit cramped during peak hours which makes it easy to trip over other diners. Worth a visit for good Indian food at lunch.

2018-03-08The place is very small but okay! Always busy and serve fast. Employees are nice and smart. It’s a great place for the location , we went their to have some desi foods. We ordered biriyani , price is kinda high , but the amount is very less, and the bottom of the biriyani was burned . And they put too much Masala in it , didn’t have the flavor of Biriyani.Wasn’t pleased with the food , otherwise it’s a great place for the location.

2020-01-01Some great Indian food right near Wall Street, super yummy and filling we had to take some home! Best butter chicken I’ve had in a long time, and the entrees had some bite to them! Will definitely be back on my next trip to NYC.

2022-01-23What a great find! A small restaurant that is huge on flavor and prices are very reasonable. They have a liquor license with a decent selection of moderately priced wines.
