I had their casserole with latte. Food are nice, waiter is friendly. They have more seats downsdownstrs. The canele has a hard cover and very moisture texture inside. Its $3 for each. Plain croissants are crispy. The wheat bread also has a hard skin. Overall Ill say their bread are more baked but I like it.
Finally made it to R & S for diner. I’ve known about their magnificent bread, Buckwheat & traditional Baguettes in my trip advisor Review (Best Baguette in NYC). But here I came on a Saturday night to discover the food served. Lots of choices but what caught my eye was the Homemade pasta selection. So we went with the Panzella Salad & Eggplant Crostini to start. Crostini has roasted Almonds & a light cumin taste. Both were excellent, especially the Crostini. Superb. Then as a Main course we opted for the Braided Ricotta Ravioli & Squid Ink Bucatini. Both dishes were delicious This sweet tomato sauce complements the ricotta rich ravioli. The Squid Ink dish was as a good with the seafood and its sauce not overwhelming the pasta. Cant wait to go back. If youre a Bread fanatic like myself, mornings seems to be the time to go and try their specialty breads... Highly recommended. Mes félicitations a Chris Pizzulli Exec. Chef & Peter Endriss Baker in Charge.
Ive wanted to come here for a long time, based on the good reviews. Went there for brunch and Ive been extremely disappointed unfortunately. Coffee and orange juice were, but the Fritata and the side of house-made bacon were really meh - sizes are small, taste ok but overall feel like they didnt put a lot of research into it. I should try the dinner and lunch menus to give a full appreciation but I would recommend not going there for brunch.
Complementary breakfast that came with our hotel room , we stayed at the Union Hotel and they gave us tickets to redeem at the place. Service was good , orange juice and tea was perfect, the pastries (croissants) were not that fresh and fluffy, other than that was ok.
As a French person, a good baguette is life... And this place is helping me to live far away from home. Baguette, croissant, pain au chocolat... Everything is there and taste amazing! And... Full bar... What else do we need? Yes... Maybe be able to speak French but still... So glad I have this place next to my apartment!
By far the best takeout Ive had. Was going here frequently pre-COVID for the amazing dinners and ambiance, and for their world-class chocolate almond croissants, but this was wonderful. Not only are the people fantastic, but they did an amazing job packaging the food, and the flavors were amazing. Generous portions as well. Thanks, Runner and Stone!! Well be back.
This place is nice to step in and explore the pastry selections. The place reminds me of a intimate cozy nook. While the atmosphere is nice I feel the quality of the food as gone down. I ordered the french toast and the flavor profiles, that I remember from my last trip here, were gone. The french toast was mushy. The walnuts added were too soft so didnt add a nice texture to the toast. The apple marmalade was really good but added to the feeling of eating something mushy. Maybe it was an off day and I will definitely visit again since the staff is nice.
Everything they make is total perfection. 👌Recently I’ve been trying a lot of their sandwiches. The duck reuben is one of the best sandwiches ever and I’m not even a duck person. (Tip - get the fries - they come with homemade ketchup!) Also, the vegan tempeh BLT and mortadella are total winners! (Though you can’t go wrong with anything.) Oh, and the veggie quinoa burger 👍Then there’s the breads and pastries .... ahhh.....they deserve a whole other post :)
Ive been here for brunch a couple times and each time the service has been very Friendly. They have great looking pastries and baguettes. There are a steady stream of regulars getting pastries to go. This time I got the apple french toast with tosted wall nuts. The warm apple topping was delicious. Try some of the house made jam too on some toast.
I celebrated my PhD today in this great restaurant. Well we passed a magnificent evening and the venue was clearly the reason for the happy event. The team contributed in a sweet way, the meals were yummy and my friends were so delighted. We shall no dout visit again for more events. thanks very much.
Love this place. The best bread and pastries (esp almond chocolate croissant) and awesome dinner (esp mon/tues for half off any bottle of wine deal). Only thing that is not totally perfect is I’ve found the breakfast and lunch portions a bit small for the price, so if this bothers you stick to the amazing breads, pastries, and dinner like I do. Also has a very nice vibe.
We frequent this place for brunch and we really love everything about it. Great vibes, excellent service, and delicious food. The bar whips up a pretty great Bloody Mary and the fresh baked goods are very very good. I always grab a chocolate croissant after the meal.Eat: Fried Chicken and Biscuits and AranciniDrink: Bloody Mary
Unreal. Came here for dinner twice over the past few months and was never disappointed. Everyone who works here is an absolute gem and I’d want to have a glass of wine with. But the FOOD. Ricotta and tomato jam ricotta ravioli was to die for. Best tomato sauce honestly, ever. The NY strip steak and beet salad were the perfect lead up and kept asking for more break. Best meal I’ve had in a long time. Ambiance was perfect never rushed. Can’t wait to try for brunch.
They open for pick up. I ordered a double American and a monkey bread but actually, they accept walk-in customers so you do not need to place an order online beforehand. They use my favorite milk from Battenkill for a coffee which made me feel secured, and the monkey bread croissant is so delicious. They made a coffee when I arrived.
I had the privilege to be the locksmith who installed the locks for them when they were construction it. The food is excellent and service is great. The staff is friendly. Im delighted to come here. Whenever they need my service, Im always offered a free cup of coffee or pastry. Awesome!
Brilliant from the cocktails to dessert. A pleasant spot when it is not too crowded. Nicely detailed space that feels as if somebody cared when designing it. Both cocktails I had were delicious, a nice modest selection of good beer too. Food was outstanding. Every dish was a full mouth immersion experience, starting with the bread basket. This might be the best bread and butter in all of NYC. Baked right there in their own bakery it had this way of making me weak in the knees. Crispy crusts and soft centers spread with this carnal house butter (ask for multiple pallets, you will want one for each piece). I had the beet salad, glazed carrots and chicken and dumplings, with the cheese cake for desert. The carrots stole the show, which is an accomplishment because everything was excellent. The chicken and dumplings was rich without being heavy, served in a delectable mushroom broth. The carrots though is what left me starstruck, almost meaty, ginger glazed with a hint of butter. One of the best single dishes I have had in months, maybe years. The desserts were also well crafted. I had the cheesecake and my tablemate had the brownie, neither was too sweet and the cheesecake was so fluffy that you felt lighter after eating it. All around a superb experience and is worth a trip out of you way.
Excellent food and service!! The fried chicken made us sing (as predicted by our awesome server) the passion fruit sorbet transports you straight to the islands...Our server was the highlight of this visit, helpful, knowledgeable and extremely personable....We have been here for breakfast , lunch and early dinner, this was our third time here and each visit is better than the last. The total package...highly recommended! I forgot to mention the many varieties of bread and pasteries baked on premises are worth the trip to the neighborhood.
This bakery offers the single most compelling reason to move to Brooklyn from Manhattan, the peerless orange flower water brioche (a steal at around $5!), easily the best brioche I have ever tasted ... Every baked good is delicious, in particular the aforementioned brioche and buckwheat baguette ... The bakery also operates a stall in Manhattan at the Union Square Greenmarket on Wednesday but runs out pretty quickly
Ive enjoyed the baked good from Runner & Stone for years. The brioche, multigrain rye, baguette, and semolina are my faves but just about everything has been wonderful. Last night I had dinner and it was amazing. Duck pastrami is just as good as it sounds, the tomato jam served with the braided ravioli is transcendant (not to mention the ricotta ravioli itself), my steak was melt in your mouth perfection. The chefs here clearly know what theyre doing and I will absolutely return.
Wow. That almond croissant is really *on point*. Believe the hype!I also had a delicious mackerel sandwich on baguette. But the people who work here are even better than the food, if that were possible. One of my new favorite places. Im definitely coming back for more.
Best bread around, however my biggest take away is that this place doesnt really know what it is. Is it a cocktail bar, coffee shop, cafe, restaurant? The space is also kind of weird. I didnt eat here but the food looked good, though maybe a bit pricey. Staff were very nice and the service was great. For me, its just not the most comfortable place to hang out. Ill for sure be back for the bread, but probably wouldnt eat a meal here.
A friend and I recently kept going to eat at Frankies for every and no occasional. Recently, though, I suggested we get out of our rut and go to Runner & Stone and my friend agreed. We sat at the bar, like I always do there, and ordered mostly vegetarian plates to split. My friend also ordered chicken liver pate. After every bite of every item, we kept making moaning noises, because everything was so good. The space is clean, beautiful and modern. They make baked good on-premises and supply many restaurants with bread. And if you wanted you could do what I did once and run in, and order a housemade takeout pretzel.Runner and Stone is currently my favorite restaurant in the area, but Frankies will always have my heart.
My favorite new neighborhood place! I had only been here in the morning, to get a pastry (the best almond croissant Ive ever had), and a coffee to go, but had yet to try dinner. So glad I did! The sea bass appetizer with ciabatta was awesome, and the lobster with corn dish was perfectly cooked-not rubbery like lobster sometimes is. My boyfriend loved the lamb sausage dish, which I tried and agreed it was definitely yummy. The cherry trifle with sour cream ice cream was heavenly! I will definitely be making this a regular dinner spot now as well.
The food is good when its made properly, but they have issues with consistency and its overpriced. For example, they have a delicious fried chicken sandwich, but when I ordered it for lunch the other day, the brioche bun was burnt to a crisp. Youd think when the bun is left on the grill until it looks like half is made of charcoal, they would grab a new bun and toast it properly. For $13 its the least they could do.
I LOVED IT HERE.Super chill vibe that was filled with kindness.Loved the decor.Came around 11am on a Sunday. Plenty of seats available. Our server/host was perfection. She was so calm and smooth. It just made you feel good and that you were in the right place. (Hey. I know. It was Brunch. Like relax, Molly. It isnt that serious. But man, I realllllly liked the vibe.)I will be back to experience the dinner menu.Oh, I must also mention the selection of treats from the the bakery displayed in the front. We grabbed a few before we left. The guy managing that section was super kind and funny. The treats were out of this world. Cheers to this team!
We talking about one of New Yorks finest chefs and bakers who have been flying under the radar.I cant go without ordering the chicken and buckwheat dumplings in an etherial mushroom broth. Whatever the fish of the evening, I expect its always delicious., has been every time Ive tasted. Nothing disappoints, the wines are interesting and fairly priced, as are the cocktails...and the bar stocks Widow Jane Bourbon and Rye, one or the other I always enjoy with bread slathered in butter mixed with caraway seeds. Ask and ye shall receive.I recommend with great confidence in that the many friends and family Ive sent have praised and thanked. Then theres the breads and pastries. I think I just described tonights dinner. Checking with my wife. Enjoy.
Get the brioche. It might just bring you to tears.Just went back to Runner & Stone again. The food was again delicious -- I had the Eggs Benedict again -- so good. The baguette is AMAZING! However the service is still not good. Such a shame because the food is so good. Also I love the design. I want to go back for dinner, but the service makes me hesitant.MY OLD REVIEW (I forgot to post)We had brunch the other day. My dish, a fish cake wrapped in bacon (genius) with a beautifully made hollandaise, poached eggs and their incredible baguette was wonderful. The lobster omelette was good, but I thought small. They have incredible looking pastries and I took home an almond croissant for my mom which she described as perfection! The service was lacking! If youre not going to put salt and pepper on the table (and I seriously hate this concept because it makes the guest and the waiter work harder) at brunch, at least ask me if I need it.The waitress was pleasant enough, but not on the ball. I hated working brunch when I waited tables so I can sympathize, but it was not easy to get her attention and it was not busy.I will be back! Duck pastrami hash is calling my name!
Super fresh French baguettes and various breads/pastries made on the premises daily! There is a unique buckwheat baguette and a great Almond croissant. Staff are friendly and theres ample seating to enjoy your coffee indoors; wooden tables and bar stools, tables in the back and a marble bar with a few stools. The breakfast sandwiches are pricey and hit or miss. The best bet is the egg muffin sandwich.
Beautiful setting, really liked the glass/concrete contrast, which felt like a real oasis from 3rd Avenues generally dingy feel. Had the chefs omelet ($17) for lunch, which had corn, lobster and scallions -- a good idea, but it didnt really come together for me. Bloody Mary was sufficiently spicy and coffee was good. Id try it again, but maybe not for brunch (which, admittedly isnt my favorite meal).
Visited with my girlfriend nearly 2 weeks ago for dinner on a weeknight looking to try a new spot in our neighborhood. The atmosphere and service was stellar and attentive without pestering—could not be more pleased with how we were treated, and this was the only saving grace that keeps me from giving this restaurant 1 star. The food, however, was extremely over-salted and disappointing. We started with the Duck Pastrami which was easily the best part of the meal. If you do attend Runner & Stone, do not miss out on this dish. Wonderfully cooked and paired. We also ordered the Baby Iceberg Salad, which was covered in a dressing that tasted as if a salt shakers lid fell off into the dish. So much so that we mentioned it to our waiter (we dont normally do this) and had the dish returned. We ordered the Squid Ink Paccheri and Fried Chicken as our entrees. The Squid Ink Paccheris heat was just right, however it could not make up for a once again overly salted sauce. The Fried Chicken had heavily salted breading—breading that, at the very least, was nicely fried with a light crunch. Thankfully the salad itself was refreshing and used to extinguish our taste buds.Looking for redemption and a contrast to the salt, we finished with a couple of espressos and the Rye Brownie Sundae only to once again be disappointed with a dry and chalk-like brownie that appeared to have been baked and left to dry the day before. The cold and hard brownie (shouldnt a brownie sundae have a warm brownie?) was then topped with an extremely tasty spoon of rye whiskey ice cream which unfortunately only froze and hardened the brownie even more so. We did not finish this either.Runner & Stone felt like a restaurant that was having an off night, however at a higher price point (our check, with two cocktails apiece was near $150) I can easily say I wont be returning or recommending this to friends until I hear otherwise.
We stumbled upon this great place by coincidence. We enhoyed everything from the interior, the ambience, the music, the home baked bread and of course the food which. A special delight was rhe ease at which our vegan teenagers could be served great food without having to choose a vegan only restaurant.
When we got here we were told it would be a 5-10 minute wait which turned into a 20 minute wait. Then we said we were in a little bit of a rush and we’d like to order. The busser told us our server would be right over. 5 minutes later no server. So now we’ve been waiting 25 minutes and nothing. We ended up grabbing pastries and leaving because we couldn’t wait more than an hour for food. Don’t come to brunch. Pastries were good so I’d come for pick up if you want to take out something sweet.
The baguette here is the best i have tasted in NYC. Their swabian pretzel is really good as well; with a fat and fluffy top and a crispy bottom. They also have a buckwheat cannele which i love.Dinner menu is good. The house cured duck pastrami might be a bit on the smaller size, but very tasty. And their house made pastas are a must try if you are visiting here!
Let me start off by saying, I think the food here is good, even really good. But a bit over priced perhaps. This place suffers a bit of an identity crisis. I made reservations here on Saturday, February 13. Valentines weekend. For 6:45.The place wasnt crowded at all when we came in. What raised my eyebrows immediately is when we were greeted, it appeared as if they had no plan where to sit us even though there were lots of tables open. They decided to sit us in front of the bar and entrance door. I was two feet away from the bar, and it was a bar table, so the seats were high and so was the table. Not very romantic. My first thoughts were, its going to be cold whenever someone opens the door; and when the place starts getting a bit more crowded Im not going to like the idea that Im right in front of the bar area where people normally wait for tables and getting drinks, and like I said they sat us down at a bar table, it was very high and very small. This wasnt going to be the romantic setting for Valentines I imagined.Luckily we asked to be moved to a slightly better spot, in the front corner of the restaurant, where the seats were lowered but we were still very close to the bar, but at least it seemed secluded away from it.Originally I chose this place because of the regular full menu, but being that it was Valentine they had a special menu, which bummed me iout a little bit because I was looking forward to some things on their full menu. I asked our server if the full menu was possible, she gave an abrupt no that kind of put me off a little bit. Not a sorry, no but an abrupt no.On to the food, I had the duck pastrami as an appetizer, on the regular menu, this would have been bigger and an entree. As an appetizer it was 3 slices of duck, 3 slices of pickle, garnish and mustard. I thought it was tasty but for the price I was paying for it, I felt a little gypped. I cant imagine if I had paid like $10 more on a regular day how many slices of duck pastrami I would have gotten, 6?For the entree I got the pork chop on bone. It was nice and juicy. But it lacked a little seasoning that would make it stand out from other places, for $32, I couldnt help but think it was a little plain, although cooked well. Now I say this place suffers an identity crisis, cause I cant tell if its supposed to be a place that is supposed to be just a little bit more upscale and trendy, you know based on the prices and ability to do reservations. But I didnt feel it was an upscale atmosphere, I didnt feel the food and atmosphere warranted the pricing. It got really loud and crowded at my time there. It just didnt seem like the romantic and intimate place I wanted to take a date. Now its fine if they arent going for an upscale type place, but the pricing in the food should reflect that.If they are trying to be more upscale, perhaps seat your customers that have early reservations away from the bar, in a nicer spot when its empty.Again honestly I thought the food was good. But it wasnt fantastic. This place loses points to me because of pricing, portions, and atmosphere. If I had paid a little cheaper or gotten a bit more or the food was seasoned a bit more and differently, and if I wasnt seated so close to the bar, this place could have easily gotten a 5 rating from me. Im not saying it needed to do all those things, but one or two of those things could have gotten this place a much more positive review.I just didnt feel like this was worth the $200 I spent for Valentines.
Runner & Stone is a place to visit if you’re into baked good (especially the breads). My go to spot for miche & seeded semolina bread. The coffee is decent. The service has always been welcoming. If you’re walking around Gowanus , Park Slope or by Whole Foods worth a visit.
From the outside looking in, Runner & Stone looks like a bakery but get a little bit closer and youll see that its much more than a little bake shop. During a recent walk through the neighborhood, a friend and I popped in for a cocktail. I decided to be brave and try The South Brooklyn, an orangey-cocktail made with gin and rye. I usually shy away from rye cocktails, but this was delicious and perfect for sipping (hey, it was pretty strong!).Oh and those baked goodies? A-MAZING! I was eyeing the lemon poppy seed bread throughout my visit and got to take home a slice along with some other pastries. The cheese danishes rock, as do the chocolate croissants. Im actually pretty sure everything here is simply delicious.Overall, Runner & Stone is beautifully designed, very clean, service is friendly and while I didnt eat anything and just eyed the peoples plates next to us, I KNOW their brunch is amazing. So Ill be returning ASAP! :)
I dont understand why this place got so many stars but our experience was awful. The worst are the heavily overpriced tiny portions of food. We had to wait for our food for ages and then our eggs were even cold. There is no coffee refill and the waitress did not ask us about how we liked the place and also forgot some of our orders. It was our first and last time we visited the place.
A real neighbourhood gem. This place serves so many purposes, as a great cafe for a relaxing breakfast (the kind where you spread out your New York Times and drink your coffee for an hour), an actually good bakery adjacent to the Park Slope which is full of mediocre baked goods, a bar to sip a good whisky without the trendy, overpriced hoopla, and a restaurant that warms you with comforting foods.

2022-04-17We came at 8am, when they were just taking the pastries out of the oven. We had a chocolate croissant, and a regular croissant. Both had the perfect texture (despite being a bit cold), with all the layers detaching easily, as it should be. Taste and depth of flavor could go from good to excellent if they used French butter, which I’m 80% sure is the main improvement point.Cappuccino was excellent 👌

2022-05-05I absolutely love runner and stone. All their baked goods are delicious (recommend the baguettes, brioche, and chocolate croissants). Also have great sandwich options for lunch (recommend the mozzarella and the lentil quinoa burger).

2022-02-15Excellent almond croissant. Everything looked delicious. When I’m back in the area, I’ll definitely stop again.

2022-06-21I love their baguettes and pastries! I tried the seasonal danish and it was so flakey and delicious. Good bread places are hard to find. Their coffee is pretty good too.I got there too early for the lunch menu, but will definitely be back to try them next time.

2022-05-03The sandwiches here are insanely good. Best tuna melt I have had in my life. I dont know how much business they get in their location but it is not enough for the quality of the food.

2022-03-29Great food. Pleasant service. Vegan and vegetarian options. Homemade breads. I had a burger after I ran the NYC Half. Both the race and the burger were wonderful.

2022-04-15We love Runner & Stone. Their Chocolate Almond Croissant is hands down, without question the undisputed and best Chocolate Almond Croissant I have ever had and is my go-to weekend must-have indulgence. Its hard to put into words just how lush this is but the team have combined the best of a timeless Pain au chocolat, mixed it with an Almond Croissant classic and created one of the most iconic pieces of baked goods in Brooklyn history. Only a handful are made each day so go early to avoid disappointment (but not too early that I miss out on mine!). This is one pastry you have to try. 🍫🌰🥐

2019-11-18Came here for breakfast, service was great and quick. Pastries were delicious. Croissant was light, airy, fluffy and buttery. The chocolate croissant had the same texture but with a nice dark contrast of the chocolate inside without being too sweet. The apple turnover was delicious!!! The filling wasnt overly sweet and nice bold flavour of apple and cinnamon. And the monkey bread was also nice with a hint of cinnamon
